I was looking at Galatians. It's Galatians chapter 1, and in Galatians 1, verse 6, it says, I marvel that you are turning away so soon from him who called you in the grace of Christ to a different gospel, which is not another, but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel to you, then what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you, then what you have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men or God, or do I now seek to please men?
For if I am still pleased men, I would not be a bond servant of Christ. But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man, for I neither received it from man nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ. And so when I look at that passage or when I look at those verses, one of the things that I think about is that we, I know if you're listening to the radio station, and many of you love Jesus, we all, you know, we love Christ, we want to follow the Lord this or that, but I also want to give you a word of caution that there are many, many different gospels out there. That they're really not gospels at all, but that they claim to be the gospel, or they claim to love Jesus, or they claim to have the good news.
And so a couple of things that you need to look out for is, number one, if they're adding anything to the Bible, as we just read, and if you look at the end of Revelation 22, I believe it may be in verse 18, it says that if anyone adds anything to this Bible, that the plagues that are in this Bible are going to be added to that person's life. And it says if anything, anybody takes away anything out of this Bible, or anything out of this book, that their names will be taken out of the book of life. And so, you know, I don't like to argue doctrine with people or anything like that, but I do want you to be aware of that verse, and I do want you to be firm in what we believe, in that we can't change the Bible.
I saw a t-shirt one time and it said that we don't change God's word, but God's word changes us. And so, you know, I'll give you an example with the Jehovah's Witnesses. What they say is they say that there's no such thing as hell. You just burn up and that's the end of it, so you're not suffering in eternal punishment. Well, it's very clear when Jesus was talking about a man, there was a man named Lazarus, and there was a rich man, and Lazarus used to eat the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table, and that, I think the animals used to lick Lazarus's sores, so they both died.
The Lazarus went up to heaven where he was comforted by Abraham, and the rich man actually went down to hell where he was in torment. In other words, he didn't just burn up, that wasn't the end of it, he was in torment. And as far as we can tell from scripture, he's going to be there forever and ever. It talks about, in scripture, about eternal punishment. You know, people always like to talk about John chapter 3 verse 16, and we know that verse very well, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. And we love that verse, but there's another verse in that chapter as well. And the second verse in that chapter, it's John 3, John 3, John 3, 36, where it says, whoever believes in the son has life, but whoever rejects the son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on that person. And so, we don't want to reject the son, we don't want to reject the son of God, Jesus Christ, but we also don't want to reject a lot of the things that are in the Bible, and one of those things is hell. We know that there is an eternal heaven for the believers, for those who believe and repent and turn away from their sins, but there also is a hell.
And like we just read in the book of Revelation, for the wicked, the evildoers, for those who reject Christ. And so we know that's all a part of it, and so we can't just say, hey, we're going to believe part of the Bible and reject parts of it. You know, another thing that we know, and this is what the Jehovah's Witnesses as well, is that Jesus Christ is the son of God, and he's also divine. It says clearly in Scripture, where Jesus said, I and the Father are one. In another part where the Jews were about to stone him, he said, not only God, I the Father are one, but he says, if you have seen the Father, you've seen me. And so, you know, you know, it's a very controversial gospel.
A lot of people aren't going to like it. That's why we've received persecution for the last 2,000 years. You know, I heard a fact recently where that over the course of the last 2,000 years, 70 million Christians have actually been killed or martyred for the faith. But in the 1900s, 45 million Christians have been killed.
And while you say, yeah, there's been an explosion or a population growth and stuff like that, yeah, but not that much. And so what I've also seen is that out of those 45 million Christians who were killed, a good portion of them were killed by atheists or agnostics, and the next largest portion of them were killed by Muslims. And we know that Muslims right now are coming to Christ. But I've also seen some churches recently where they say that Muslims believe in Jesus, and that's okay, and they're part of the faith and stuff like that. Well, they believe in a different Jesus. They do not believe that Jesus was the Son of God. They probably wouldn't argue with you about the virgin birth, but they do not believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
They say that God has no sons. As a matter of fact, when many of the fanatical Muslims will martyr Christians, one of the things that they'll do is they'll give them an opportunity to deny the faith or turn from the faith, and you would repeat their creed saying that there is no God but Allah. And when you do that, you're denying the faith. And so some Christians stand firm, and some Christians end up turning to Islam. So that's that. The other thing when I think about Galatians chapter 1 is, you know, like with the Mormons, or they call themselves the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that what they believe is that, yeah, there's the Bible, we don't reject that, but there's this other book called the Book of Mormon, and that's God's new revelation.
And so we have to be very careful. In addition to that, there are, like I've said before, there are churches who are saying there's parts of the Bible that they don't believe. And really, nothing has changed. I like what Dr. Michael Brown said, nothing has changed in the last 50 years in the Bible.
But now, since the culture, it's becoming popular to say, hey, love is love, and it doesn't matter who you love, or, you know, as long as you're happy, and as long as you're sincere. But the Bible is very clear in Romans chapter 1. In the book of Leviticus, I believe it's 1822 as well, so that we have to stand firm for these things. And some, like I said before, some churches just aren't saying anything about it. And when they're not saying anything about it, I believe that they need to start speaking up on these vital and important issues. And so what some of them will say is, they'll say, well, we're not saying anything about these other issues because the most important thing is salvation. And I would say I agree with that, the most important thing is salvation. But I saw something back in 2015, this is not recent, where it said that 50 million babies had been aborted since Roe versus Wade in 1973. And, you know, we talk about, you know, people being murdered, somebody was murdered over in Durham, or somebody was murdered in Raleigh or Winston-Salem or whatever it was. But every day there are many, many, many children across the country and really across the world who are being killed and never given the chance to life.
And so I do believe that we need to speak out against that, love life. Another one of the things that I was thinking about is that there are many, many churches or many, many people who are Christians who say that, well, there's this replacement theology. Whereas that, in the whole Old Testament, and in the New Testament as well, by the way, so Ezekiel 34 through 36, it talks about that Israel is the chosen land, and it talks about the Jews, that they're God's chosen people.
And yes, I know that many of them do not believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and you must believe that Jesus is the Son of God, but that doesn't mean that God has just gotten done away with all of his promises, especially when you look in Romans chapter 9 through 11 in the New Testament. So we do support Israel. We do believe that the Jewish people are God's people, and that we do, I do 100% stand up for Israel. There was actually a book that my friend Sharon had given me, and it showed that every time the United States actually went against Israel or tried to divide up the land, that a natural disaster, a big one, would happen in the United States. And that's been done by Republican and Democratic presidents, and so we do need to stand firm for Israel. We do need to pray for Israel.
Sharon is part of something called Aliyah, A-L-I-Y-A-H, so you might want to check that out, but that's important. So I did want to mention that before I got into the podcast, but I also, you know, kind of piggybacking on what we were talking about before, that we know we're, you know, Christians are going through tough times right now, and it's going to get worse. I know I've heard many people say, well, things are going to get better, and things are going to turn around, and I'm like, if they do, great!
And, you know, if they do, great! But some of those same people said that Trump was going to stay in office the next four years, and, well, it's been, it's coming up on August now, and he's not there. But I did want to let you know that, but from what I see, I believe that we are living in the last days. If you read the book of Daniel, if you read the book of Revelation, so many things that you see in those books and so many prophecies have already been fulfilled, that I do believe that we are living in the last days, and we do need to prepare. We need to prepare our minds, our hearts, we need to pray. We see, you know, right now that there's a lot of places across the world where they're just, you know, like South Africa, they're running out of food, and so if the Lord tells you to prepare, you know, to save non-perishable foods, do that. If He tells you to save, you know, water, do that.
If He tells you to, you know, get into a good network with your friends, do that. But I really believe that right now we're going to have to have the power of the Holy Spirit. We're going to have to be filled with the Spirit. And so, you know, I notice sometimes in my prayer time, I'll be speaking in tongues, and that really helps me. It talks about that in Scripture.
You know, it talks about prophecy in 1 Corinthians chapter 14, and it does talk about tongues and about how, you know, when you're in a service, there's an interpretation, but I do believe there's also a personal prayer language. But, anyways, that's as far as that goes. But, you know, I was actually looking at something. It was a guy named John Patton, and John Patton was a famous missionary in the 1800s who went to the New Hebrides Islands, and he was living in Scotland. And at the time, his friends told him, they said, John, they said, you know, if you go to the New Hebrides Islands, that if you go there, that there's cannibals there, and they could eat you, and you could die. And I like what John Patton said back to him. He said, if I stay here, if I stay here in Scotland, I'll die. I'll get old, and I'll be eaten by worms. If I go to Scotland, if I go to the New Hebrides Islands, if I go to Hebrides Islands, I could be eaten by cannibals. He says, either way I'm going to die and get eaten. He said, I might as well go and share the good news of Jesus Christ.
And so I love that boldness right there. But, you know, it's interesting when I look at the life of John Patton, that John Patton grew up. And when he grew up, his father was a devout Christian, and he would watch how devout his father was. And he saw how important his prayer life was to his father. And because, it was said, because of his father, and because of how much, how devout his father was to the Lord Jesus Christ, John Patton decided that he wanted to give his life to Christ.
And that, really to go over, and now he's one of the most famous missionaries out there. You know, it's interesting, you know, I talk to a lot of people who are parents, and they may stay at home. And, you know, my own wife stays at home. And sometimes you may feel like, well, I'm really not doing a lot of good for the gospel. But you're raising our future generation. You're having more impact on these kids at a young age, and really throughout their first, you know, their first 18 years and the rest of their life, than really anybody else could.
And who knows, there's somebody out there. Maybe you're a mother who stays at home, or maybe you're a father who comes home and prays with the kids. And you may not feel like you're doing a big thing, but, you know, I'm sure Billy Graham's parents didn't feel that way, you know. And then, you know, they prayed with him. I'm sure that, you know, John Patton's father, and he probably didn't know exactly what was going to happen, and that John Patton was going to be a famous missionary. That he was going to go share the good news. Conversely, on the other side, we can also dissuade our kids from choosing the gospel.
I actually read about Clint Eastwood. He grew up in a Protestant church out in California, and when he grew up, he would always go to church with his family. He would go with his mother every Sunday, and they would go to church. And one Sunday after church, he went to his father, and he asked his father, he said, hey dad, I'm just curious. Why do you not come to church with us?
And his dad replied, because this is my only day off. So after that, Clint Eastwood decided he wasn't going to go to church anymore, and now, you know, despite all the success that he's had, he's not a follower of Christ. He's gotten into something else, whether it's Buddhism or whatever it is. And so, I want to encourage some of you today who may not think like you may not feel like you're doing a lot for the Lord, but what you're doing for the Lord is important. And what you're doing for the Lord is vital. And that God sees what you're doing, and He's going to raise up a future generation, you know, unless He comes back before then, and He could come back at any time. But if, you know, even if He comes back, you're doing your part.
So I do want to encourage you about that. Another thing that I heard about John Patton, the famous missionary, is that when he was in these other countries, or in the New Hebrides Islands, that he was actually around cannibals. And one day, there was a local guy from a local tribe who came to him, and he said, John, I just wanted to give you fair warning that there is going to be a group of cannibals who is going to come to your house, they're going to burn your house down, and they're going to find you, and they're going to kill you. And John Patton says, really?
They're going to come to my house and burn the house down and kill me? He says, now when are they going to do that? He said, they're going to do that tonight. John Patton, he said, okay. He ended up climbing up into a chestnut tree. And when he climbed up into the chestnut tree, he heard the muskets. He heard the loud sounds of the savages. He heard them yelling and screaming and coming. It almost sounded demonic. And he said, he saw them burn his house down. His wife had just died from a fever.
His son, Peter, had just died as well. And now he was up in this chestnut tree, and he said, during the hours that I was in that chestnut tree, he said, never in my life have I felt closer to Jesus than I felt in the hours that I was in that chestnut tree. He said, what I wouldn't give to be back in that chestnut tree in those hours and feeling the closeness that I felt to Jesus. And so I guess I want to encourage some of you that maybe you're out there, maybe you're getting some flack or keep this in the back of your mind for when persecution comes and when it gets really bad, that it is tough. Yes, you may go through a tough time, but in those times when you're going through a tough time, that Jesus is with you, and He will be closer to you than ever.
We have our friend Todd Nettleton, who's with the Voice of the Martyrs. And one of the things that he said when he, there was a guy who actually wrote a book, and this guy was from a country in Europe, it may have been right around the Czech Republic or something like that, but he did a mission trip, and I believe it was in Sudan, it was somewhere in Africa, and he said that when he went to the Sudan, and he said he was in the prison, they found out that he was Christian, and he was proselytizing, and they actually took him at the airport and they threw him in prison. And he said that when he was in prison, he said at those times when he was being beaten, and at the times when he was being persecuted in the prison, made fun of, put down, all of that stuff, he said at those times he felt so close to Jesus. And he says at the end of it, when he was finished with that persecution, he was able to share the gospel with many of the other prisoners who were in prison and they came to faith.
And so it's just interesting how sometimes things can be so difficult, or we think that we're going through a tough time and it can be tough, but in those times of our persecution, or in those times of our sufferings, many of those times Jesus will feel closer to Jesus than we have felt at any other time. You've probably heard of the missionary William Carey. He was a famous missionary back in the 17 and 1800s, and it's interesting. We talk about him today and you say, man, I want to be like William Carey. I know that he was a famous missionary and people are talking about him today, and man, that would be awesome. I'd love to be like him and I'd love to kind of go through what he went through. Well, I don't know if you know this, but his first wife died, his children died when he was there for, I believe, for the first seven years. He didn't have a single convert before eventually he did, and he was actually thrown into a prison.
And when he was thrown in prison, he said that he would, they would hold his feet up, and that when they would hold his feet up, that he would just, his neck, barely his neck and the top of his back would be on the floor, and that's how he would sleep. And it's so many times that when we are able to endure through those times, that on the other side of that tough time, that God is going to give us a blessing. And I believe that if you're listening here today and you're going through a tough time and you're standing firm for the Lord, don't quit. Don't quit. As a matter of fact, there was a, there was something that we used to listen to when I was actually selling books door-to-door, and it was, the name of it was Don't Quit.
And see if I can find it. It says, when things go wrong, as they sometimes will, and the road you're trudging seems all uphill, when the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile, but you have to sigh. When care is pressing you down a bit, rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns. As every one of us sometimes learns, and many a failure turns about when he might have won had he stuck it out, don't give up though the pace seems slow. You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than it seems to, it seems to a faint and faltering man. Often the struggler has given up when he might have, when he might have captured the victor's cup. And he learned too late, when the night slipped down, how close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out, the silver tint of the clouds of doubt. And you never can tell how close you are, it may be near when it seems afar. So stick to the fight when your hardest hit.
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit. When I hear that poem, and I'm reminded of the Christians who are in China, reminded of the Christians who are in Iran, reminded of now even the Christians who are in Canada, and some of us to a lesser of extent in America who are dealing with persecution or whatever it may be, or just even if it's just that people are putting us down and they don't like us or whatever it is, that I want to encourage you. And I want to pray for the Christians right now overseas who are being persecuted, Lord. I just want to pray that in Jesus name that you give them the courage to stand firm. Because we know that when they stand firm, on the other side is the victor's crown. We may have to die for the Lord, and if we do that would be wonderful. We would be martyrs and we would be entered into heaven and Jesus would welcome us with open arms. But yes, we can have some tough times in life, but Jesus loves us.
He says he will never leave us nor forsake us. I'm reminded of a recent story. I was driving with a young man and I was going and selling insurance one day and there were two roads that I was on. And the first road I went there one day and I saw a guy and I talked to him. And the second day I went to a road and it was the same road near a cemetery and I saw the lady who was there. And after I saw the lady who was there the second day, she got a policy, I went back and I said, okay, maybe I'll go see this other guy. And I just had this feeling that I shouldn't go back there.
And it's funny when I went back there, the road was no longer there. And so God is still working miracles. We're praying for revival nowadays. We're praying that the Lord is going to use people, not only in the pulpits, but people who are just everyday people. And he's going to use us to share the good news of Jesus Christ, the knowledge that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, loves us. And if you've never given your life today to Jesus Christ, it says in John 3, 16, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
It says in John 3, 36 that whoever rejects the son does not have life, but the wrath of God abides on him. So if you've never given your life to Christ, I want you to pray with me right now and I want you to give your life to Christ right now. Say, dear Lord, I know I'm a sinner.
I know I've turned away from you. I know I haven't followed you, Lord, and I choose to follow you all the days of my life. I repent for my sins. Thank you, Jesus, for giving me this salvation.
