... Vision of the Son of Man And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying to me, Do not be afraid.
I am the first and the last. Revelation chapter 1, verse 17. I often wonder what it will be like when I see Jesus face to face for the first time. It is a moment that I eagerly anticipate.
I imagine what he will look like, what I will say to him, and what he will say to me. I think today's verse leaves no guessing as to what our initial reaction will be. Seeing Christ in his glory, John collapsed in awe.
I think it is safe to say that all of us will do the same. Remember, this is the same John who laid his head on the chest of Jesus in the upper room. John chapter 13, verse 23. Here John is seen bowing and giving reverence to Jesus for the supreme God that he is. Upon falling at the feet of Jesus, our Lord places his right hand on John. During his earthly ministry, Jesus would often say, Do not be afraid. Peace be with you.
Do not let your heart be troubled. We find him comforting John in the same way here. Jesus declares that he is the first and the last, a reference to the eternal state of Christ, past and future. Jesus, as a person of the triune God, has always existed and always will exist. What a mighty God our Lord is. The question that I want you to ask yourself is, am I ready to see Jesus? Some believers look forward to it while others are apprehensive. Make sure today that secret sin is not causing you to lose your desire to meet Jesus face to face. If there is something in your lifestyle, meaning habitual sin, that is not of God, repent today as we will all stand before him in the near future.
