The Lord views David to point out what was wrong with Saul.

Saul decided because of that he was going, humanity deal with the Aussies family but in the start about eight he was mandated what David was the instrument of God's conviction talkative either receive that conviction.

Or he could be mad at Dave.

Welcome to cross the bridge with David McGee, the senior pastor of Bridge in Kernersville, North Carolina yesterday to continue teaching through first Samuel chapter 20 today we have these assistant pastors in the studio with us, you, Bob, it's that time of blessing for us as we close out another chapter verse by verse.

The first Samuel we then in chapter 20 and today is one of those last teachings and pastor David talking about not getting mad at the messenger but getting the message do you catch my drift. Thereby, the Lord speaking to us about things we don't want to hear it so easy just take it out of the person that tells us is that I just really see network as the beauty of the body of Christ that there's times where I'm to be shared hard you and there's times where you're gonna be sharing a hard truth with me to get the message not be mad at the messenger problem hasn't in his David McGee teaching the Bible for single verse one then David fled from. They often rely when said to Jonathan what about done.

What is my iniquity. What is my sin before your father. 36. My wife, so Jonathan said to him by no means you shall not indeed my father will do nothing either great or small, without first telling me and watching my father how this thing from me. It is not so well. Jonathan has appointed his father's not an end up doing anything to David but it's kind of sad to see that Jonathan has this trust in his father of it before the chapters overage can be shattered.

Then David took a nose again and said your father certainly knows it found favor in your and he has said do not let Jonathan know this list to be grieved, but truly, as the Lord lives in as your soul lives.

There is but a step between me and death for so Jonathan said to David, whatever you yourself desire. I will do it for you and Davidson Johnson.

Indeed, tomorrow is the new moon and I shall not fail to sit with the king. The let me go that I may hide in the field until the third day, and even if your father misses me at all and say David earnestly asked permission of me that he might run over the Bethlehem city for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family if he says it is well your server will be safe.

But if he is very angry.

Be sure that evil is determined by him therefore you shall deal kindly with your servant for you brought your servant into a covenant of the Lord with you. Nevertheless, if there is iniquity in me, kill me yourself. For why should you bring me to your father verse not Jonathan said, far be it from you provide is certainly that evil was determined by my father to come upon you then would I not tell you. Then David said to Jonathan, who will tell me what is your father answered you roughly Jonathan said the David, let us go out to the field so both of them went out to the field. Jonathan said the David, the Lord God of Israel is witness when I have sounded out my father sometime tomorrow or the third day in indeed there is good towards David, and I do not send to you and tell you. May the Lord do so, and much more to John, but if it pleases my father to do evil, then I will report it to you and send you a way that you may go in safety and the Lord be with you as he is been with my father and you shall not only show me the kindness of the Lord. While I still live that I may not die but you shall not cut off your kindness for my house forever know not when the Lord is cut off every one of the enemies of David from the face of the earth, so Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David saying let Lord required at the hand of David and David's enemies Jonathan again calls David to Val because he loved for a London as he loved his own soul.

Jonathan said to David, tomorrow is the new moon and you will be missed because your seat will be empty. So in this gathering. David had a reserve seat when you stayed three days go down quickly come to the place where you hid on the day of the deed and remain the stone as then I will shoot three arrows to the side as though I shot at a target and there I will send Lansing go find the arrows if I expressly say to the lab look the arrows on this side of you get them and come then as the Lord lives, there's safety for you and no harm but I say this to the young man looked arrows are beyond you go your way for the Lord has set you away and as for the matter what you and I spoke, not indeed the Lord be between you and me forever. So they come up with this plan and this was it was it was necessary because Jonathan and David knew that they really couldn't trust anybody else, and saw service. The risk and that's reality in life.

There's people that you can trust and are simply people that you should not trust the Bible says we should be wise as serpents and harmless as so they come up with this plan and and basically same David listen to what I say about say this thing you're fine everything school if I say this one thing, then you know what you need to leave.

You need to leave because your life is in danger and there is certain wisdom and then Matthew 1016 is where that verses is, behold, I send you out a sheet in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as the new living translation says almost think this is what I'm sending you out as sheep among wolves be as wary as snakes and harmless as dogs never really thought about that verse that first part. I'm sending you out as sheep among wolves. Many people here seem Bugs Bunny cartoons.

I have a habit of spiritualizing the weirdest things understand the member. The one you know were that the wolf is trying to eat the sheep and he dresses up as she can watch it. No one can sheep against a wolf. I just hardly makes sense doesn't mean and let less.

You got this not only maybe got a big box sheep Lambeau, you know that's going to go take the wolf out, but it's a little scary when you stop and consider were being sent out and she among wolves.

We know what we can trust their shepherd. We can trust their shepherd and it says be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves doesn't say be as wise as doves and harmless as serpents there's wisdom in this and here's the thing, and certainly if you've been being understand you tend towards fear and relationship.

If you've been lied to. Enough times you are afraid of developing friendship God can heal you and you can find your security in the Lord.

But here's a life lesson here. You must use caution and wisdom in dealing with people you must use caution and wisdom in dealing with people. Verse 24 then David had in the field and when the new moon income. The king sent now need to face the king sat on a seat and as at other times on a seat by the wall. Jonathan arose and Abner set us all cyber David place was empty. Nevertheless all did not say anything that day, for he thought something has happened to him. He is unclean surely is unclean and it was supposed to be a really good time of fellowship, eating and sharing a meal. Now he says he is unclean surely is unclean. Let me remind you the new moon start the month is a cease and if you'd done something you were unclean and you can take part of that feast and so in a David man killed the Philistine and had to take a day watch close ceremonial cleanse himself before he could attend the feast so you know that first day softball maybes he's cleansing himself. He ceremonially unfit for this verse 27 and it happened next day the second day of the month to Dave's place was empty sausage. Jonathan his son. Why has the son of Jesse not come to either yesterday or today.

So Jonathan answered Saul. David earnestly asked permission of me to go to Bethlehem and he said please let me go for family has a sacrifice in the city and my brothers commanded me to be there and now I found favor in your eyes. Please let me get away and see my brothers therefore is not come to the king's table Jonathan's line to his father again let me remind you that Saul is desiring to kill David so before you know any youth in here go will you. I can see a letter back that God led me to lie to you and that not acceptable unless you that's going to get an event so call the church will help. Jonathan is looking out for Sprint and is in a very very tough place you God has placed him in a tough place.

So what happens verse 30 themselves. Anger was aroused against Johnson.

He said to you son of a perverse rebellious woman do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame into the shame of your mother's neck goodness no. The Jewish phrase really doesn't translate well here. The connotation here is that your your mother is a shame that you were ever born and there's also kind of a question whether you're really her sign in and maybe she was a loose woman or prostitute. I mean it's it's it's very strong. He slammed them hard.

This is his son and father to be very careful what you say to your get God has given you a shower with your words over your children. You be careful what you say.

If you've ever said that your child was worthless or you regret that they were born, or that they were an accident or anything like that need to go back and repent need to tell them that you're sorry. Need to apologize to God as well because God is the one that placed you in the role as a father.

Your words have a special power and the power of those words is to encourage your children in the Lord for the appropriate reason.

Obviously, Saul's money is for the appropriate reason. Thank you for listening to David McGee with cross the bridge ministries. David's heart is to help you beyond our radio program.

Now back to David McGee, verse 31 as long as a son of Jesse lives on earth. You shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Now therefore send and bring them to me for he shall surely die.

Saul Lehman, David the Jonathan might not be king was a David's fall. No, not at all. It was softball, versatile quit for Sandra 1314 says this is the same as speaking to Saul now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for himself a man after his own heart. The Lord has commanded him to be commander of his people because you've not The Lord commanded you that the first thing that happened with Saul that first incident, God spoke the same things that you know what your kingship will not continue, it will not be passed on to your sons because of what Saul did the second time is much stronger for Sam. 1523 again the words of Samuel, which Saul continues not to heed for rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, stubbornness, as iniquity and idolatry. Because you rejected the word of the Lord has also rejected you from being king that point Saul himself lost kingship had nothing to do with David had nothing to do with John the Lord use David to point out what was wrong with Saul. Saul decided because of that he was going to mandate. He always PLCs Sam but in this talk about the it was mandated while David was the instrument of God's conviction Saul could either receive that conviction. Or he could be mad at night dinners and how often put in this position where I have to say something and I know it's going to be convicted, but I have to say it anyway. Sometimes somebody is willing to blow a gasket over and also in the really matter because I said this thing speak out anger you will hear me yell or pointing people or anything like that from this platform. There's a reason for I don't want to misrepresent God. And if I represent to you that God is angry at you and yelling and pointing his finger misrepresent God. I don't do say these things in anger same in love and I love enough to say things I love enough when I had a difficult patch is a one in this passage is what God will speak to Mrs. on the same and you have a choice and you know at some point friend. Let me assure you at some point you will sit service in here and you will be convicted and you will have the opportunity to be mad at me.

I can't believe, sir, I can't really talk about it. I can't leave… Getting sick. I can't believe it.

And you that is your decision. You have free will. You can be mad at me and miss an opportunity to grow in the Lord and come back to that same lesson six months six years.

Six years later you can say you know I got speak goddess, but I don't like what I'm hearing you know what, this is a problem in my life and I need to address it. Life lesson. Do not get mad at the messenger get the message. Do not get mad at the messenger get the message. Verse 32 and Jonathan answered Saul his father and send them why should he be killed and one is done since THE spirit in the killing by which Jonathan knew it was determined by his father to kill David see this is what happens. Saul had learned from Spears once you learn to throw spears that will be your response that will be every time you get angry every time you get hurt. Your first response will be thrown spears at some and you'll start out throwing spears at people that you perceive to be your enemy and you end up throwing everything ago. I don't their spirit. We talked about the tongue done done more damage over years in any spirit has ever and if you resort back to malicious talk that's throwing spears you quit doing you resort back to gossip that's throwing spears and he quit doing and God will bring that light God will bring you into a situation where you're looking ago yeah I did that I need to repent a need to learn from the situation so that you quit throwing spears and and you know what is written is something in you somebody that was a friend of Saul really said really should. It said so we sit down to dinner. Can we move your spear and we put it somewhere else. You have this really bad habit of picking that thing up and and chunking it people and and that's really not really not some legend of ministering to.

This is a temptation for us all pickup spears and the Roman people know what is. I look at the life of people would throw spears will be like. I do not want to be like so I have to make a conscious effort when I'm angry when I'm hurt that I don't throw spears people is difficult sometimes, but that's a decision that we need to make. We need to make and you know so should ask himself why you want to throw the spear when when you're tempted to throw spears might ask yourself why you feel like that. Ask yourself what's going on in my life that I want to do this quite frequently or something going on you not fellowship with the Lord. Something else is gotten angrier having in worshiping God. He had been digging in God's word. Ask yourself one verse 35 and so was in the morning.

The Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David and the little lad was with many symptoms, lad, no errors, which I shoot as lad ran. He shot an arrow beyond when the latter come to the place where there will was which Jonathan shot Jonathan cried out after the Lancet is not the arrow beyond you.

Jonathan cried out after the lad make haste. Hurry, do not delay Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows and came back to his master plan did not know anything.

Only Jonathan and David knew of this new of the matter said there was this kind of clue that Jonathan was in the David and Solomon. Then Jonathan gave his weapons to his lad and said to him, go, carry them to the city. He tempted the three passive Spartan women. David is a threat to Jonathan's crown, but Jonathan sends his weapons is that anyone why is that because he had a friendship and relationship with David and knew he didn't mean he knew he didn't need need to manipulate David. He knew he didn't need any weapons in his relationship with David and he was okay with his friend. Life lesson their friends that don't require weapons have friends that don't require weapons. You know if you're sitting there and you're trying to figure out how to say say something to somebody. It may be that the relationship is not a real close, because you can say just about anything to a real friend and they'll understand.

But if you are you having to do this and have the do that. Having the hide behind this and that and the other you know if you have to put up your guard every time you talk to this person probably not a close friend now caveat the exception is if you've been really wound in relationships you may have a true friend and you're tempted to put up the guard when you don't need God Estonian times a put down that she'll put down that guard as you develop this relationship. Verse 41 as soon as the ladder gone. David arose from a place toward yourself fell on his face to the ground and bow down three to and they kiss one another and they went together with David Morrison. Then Jonathan said to David, go in peace.

Since we both sworn in the name of the Lord's, and may the Lord be between you and me in between your descendents in my descendents forever so he arose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city from this time on David will be an outcast to the cortisol in the this is where Dave God will take a man like David who was already a natural born gifted leader and help turn them into one of the greatest leaders this earth is ever enough to take a man who was a good songwriter and is going to turn them into the greatest songwriter the world probably is a not only that, but in this lineage of David will come to be King David and his offspring will be the King of King Jesus himself, but David has a lot to go through. There's about 10 years is a good estimation before he becomes King. 10 years of running hot of having people trying to kill, but David trust the Lord.

The whole time he trust the Lord so much that when Saul is right there and he could take him out. He does it because he says I will raise my hand against the Lord's anointed boy we could get that then they have this beautiful farewell wheel. I wish we had beautiful farewell.

Still, we know we don't we say goodbye a lot even that the origin of goodbyes. God be with you. Whatever time is been shortened to goodbye Kelly. God be with you better or shalom, peace be unto you, good day when I don't like. Take care yourself that's weird is you want to say and Gonzaga look after you better take care yourself. I said that before, but I don't see but here's the thing David David trust in God with his life. What is he knew God's will seen everything is in fact the things that were coming were common beings filtered through the hands of the understand everything in your life right now is being filtered through the hands of God. If you got horrible boss think I knows the God know that before he gave you that John absolutely silly place you in a position really hard job at work.

God put you in that position so that he might be glorified and that you might be refined. God sees it all understand that many people in here including myself have known very painful experiences.

God allowed in my case I can look back on my life and see some really horrible things that happen in the God was in control and through these things, God was draw me close to himself. When I finally got this revolutionized my life was talking to brother and and I was was just weepy for a few days and I went up to and he said Jenner Sam why the Lord allowed the guy gave me verse Genesis chapter 50 verse when Joseph was doing with this Rosie said you thought evil against me, but God in it for good to bring in the past to save many people do understand and he said the near tears are going to turn the diamonds and is now stored. I know some of you, you've cried a lot of tears been hurt. God was there somebody that God why did you abandon me at that moment God didn't abandon you. I was walking through those things with extending his hand towards you sell enough letters are often the very things it used to drive us to the Lord how you treat these things in your life. If you're not going to one of those moments right now you know what maybe one around the corner. How will you deal with those things will you trust that God is in charge and knows what is known or you only trust the Lord. When you understand what the test is to be trusting when you don't. And even when you disagree with what he still do that. Trust. Trust friend. You know for sure that your sins have been forgiven. You can know right now only Legion a short simple prayer simply telling God you're sorry and asking him to help you to live for him. God want you to pray this prayer so much that he died to give you the opportunity and the ability to ask him to forgive you. Please pray this prayer with me out loud right now. Dear Jesus, I believe you died for me that I could be forgiven and I believe you were raised from the dead that I could have a new life not done wrong things I have sent and I'm sorry. Please forgive me of all those things. Please give me the power to live for you. All of my days in Jesus name, amen it friend of you prayed that prayer according to the Bible you've been forgiven you've been born again.

Jesus said he would not turn anybody away who comes to him and he came for those people who knew they needed forgiveness. Those who were sick, not the righteous.
