You and David think about what we don't have to guess everyone the references Psalm 56 verse 10 through 12 in God. I will praise his word and the Lord I will praise his word and God have put my trust, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me.
Valves made to you are binding upon the old God I will render praises to you, David is being hunted by Saul who was his friend and his king is, I believe the go to the enemy's camp is in there is acting crazy. And yet, in his mind he's praising the Lord welcome to cross the bridge with David McGee Senior Pastor of the bridge in Kernersville, North Carolina today were blessed to have Mrs. a special guest in studio Pastor Neal is one of David Mickey's assisting pastors. Help us out with the program break to be joining with you today.
Bob is worthy to be listening to Pastor David talking about putting trust in the Lord instead of ourselves.
Before I came to know Jesus. My trust with me myself and I go forward but didn't do well.
It brought me to a place where now I'm trusting him and learning to trust him more. My everyday life and passionate about listlessness to continue teaching first Samuel chapter 21st Samuel chapter 21 what's happening. This is David has been anointed king, but is not been placed into the position of being king and Saul started getting really paranoid and freaked out is now in a want to kill David even though David is his best leader and God is given the victory after victory through David and now David is going to be kind of on the run for next probably for 5 to 10 years something like that name is going to be on the run to see the night and some interesting things really come out through him being on the run.
So first Samuel chapter 21 verse one that David came to knob to help him elect the priests and Amalek was afraid when he met David and said to him, why are you alone and no one is with you. So David said to him, elect the priest.
The king is ordering me on some businesses said to me, do not let anyone know anything about the business in which I send you what I have commanded you. And I have directed my young men do such and such a place. Now, therefore, what have you on hand give me five loaves of bread in my hand or whatever can be found in the priest answered Dave and said there is no common bread on hand.
But there is holy bread is the young men have at least kept themselves from women not only explain what's going on here on the Shabbat they would replace the show bread the bread literally in Hebrew, the bread of faces the bread went before the face of God that would replace the 12 loaves after seven days, and then the priests were entitled to eat those 12 loaves now the priestess and while we don't have any regular bread, but we have the show bread and if your men have kept themselves pure than they can have that now understand when you were out doing military things. There was a a ritual purity that you were supposed to engage in other word soldiers that were out were not supposed to have sexual relations out will see later on in the life of David comes into contact with this man named Uriah and Uriah. Even though he's off the field of battle and actually with his wife still decides he's not can have relations with her because of this military ritual purity.
Verse five then David answered the priest and said to him, truly women have been kept from us about three days since I came out in the vessels of the young men are holy, and the brand is in effect common, even though it was consecrated in the vessel this day. So the priest gave them holy bread, for there was no bread there, but the show bread which had been taken from before the Lord in order to put hot bread in its place on the day when it was taken away again. It's the legal bread they take the bread out new bread in the priest, which was the the bread but again this is a is this interesting passage.
It is so interesting that Jesus added commentary to it that some of you may be familiar with.
So do me a favor keep your finger right there. First Samuel 21 in turn with me over to Matthew chapter 12, which is in the New Testament is the first book of the New Testament to see what was going on when Jesus referred to this because this this is going to help shed some light on what's going on in this chapter, I love the saying the best commentary on the Bible is about as you look at cross-references it will reveal other thing about other things about the Scriptures that you're looking so in Matthew chapter 12 and will read one through 14. At that time Jesus went to the grain fields on the Sabbath and his disciples were hungry and begin the plot cans of grain and to eat. When the Pharisees thought they said they look your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath, but he said to them, have you not read what David did when he was hungry. He and those who were with how he entered the house of God and make to show bread which was, not lawful for him. The nor for those who were with them, but only for the priest have you not read in the wall than on the Sabbath the priest in the temple profane the Sabbath. The blameless say to you that in this place. There is one greater than the temple, but if you would know what this means, I desire mercy and not sacrifice you would not of condemned the guiltless for the Lord. For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath now was continual because it is like in further verse nine when he departed from there he went into their synagogue, and behold, it was a man who had a withered hand and asking since is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath that they might accuse. Then he said to them what man is there among you who has one.
She and if it falls into the pit on the Sabbath will not lay hold of it lifted out how much more value then as a man than a sheet. Therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath when he said, stretch out your hand and he stretched it out and is restored as whole as the other, then the Pharisees went out and plotted against them how they might destroy Jesus in this passage is really saying to the Pharisees eat. You guys are getting you guys are getting, you know, the letter of the law, but you don't know the spirit of the law because they look to these disciples that were hungry and instead of saying a note will be discussed Williams on the they looked at him and said you know what they really shouldn't be collecting food on the Sabbath.
Now go back to first Samuel 21. That's the same thing that this priest in first Samuel 21 understood there was a hungry man man standing in front of this bread, the law suggested that he needed to only only the priest could eat this bread was the concept here that love is over, the law love is over the long meal and some reckless way that so many people these days hold to ritual and don't love other people. I don't think that impresses God because if you remember a lot of a lot of us may think that this is an New Testament concept what Jesus said back in Leviticus 1918 resist. You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord that is back in Leviticus now Jesus spoke about this in Matthew 2237 Jesus said to him in the guess is he a what's the greatest thing in all. Jesus said that you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind. This is the Shema that here is in labor, verse 38 this is the first and great commandment in the second is like it you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Those two things, and yet we have severely overcomplicated everything over seven now certain men of the servants of Saul was there that they detained before the Lord and his name was the Lagunita Mike, the chief of the herdsmen who belong to Saul Edomites go back to Esau all sorts of problem because of Esau still in the world today and the lag is going to be a big big problem and now this is interesting to see next it in the next chapter will see that know it really wasn't a man of God really wasn't following the Lord, but is in the house Lord will lead times are the solar Judas in the house. Lord and David said Ahimelech is not your own hemisphere or sword fry brought me there. My sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste. So the priest said the sort of glass.
The Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of the law, there is wrapped in a cloth behind the five if you will take that take for there's no one that no other except that when here and David said there is none like it, give it to me this is awesome because I think and I rent innocently counters… Not good is getting the last sword and I can see part of that but I like the fact that the sort often represents the word of God and what David says there is none like it, give it to you understand him much.
We need this book in our lives. Yes average American has none of these is now many Bibles of that average Third World pastor has in his zero.
We have not any terms of the problem. There's think about what what did the sword of Goliath mean the David in the midst of this running sauce chasing Saul China killing and he sees us sword of Goliath, and I think he remembered elected that sword went yeah you know what guys will see me through. He remembered his former victors to understand how important you understand whenever you share your testimony and what God has brought you out of that you remember how much you've been changed already and and what happens through this former victories. Not only are you filled with plays with the person you're talking about twice good to talk about live in the past but remember those victories because God is continuing to change and can be more battles to be more victories we need understand verse 10.
Then David arose and fled that day from before Saul went anxious.
The king of gas and certain sebaceous of them is they were the king of the land, the denouncing of him to one another and dances saying Saul Salinas thousands, and David is 10,000 verse 12, not David took these words to heart was very much afraid of gracious the king of David is he's he's worried he's concerned he's afraid and what is he do he goes to get the runs right in the danger I can tell you the number of times this is happened in this fellowship. Somebody gets upset at something. I say they get upset that they're confronted in something that they're doing wrong and rather than deal with it and work through it. They bail they run and think a lot of times that's what happens with church compensate. They go to one church until they get confronted in their sin and then instead of dealing with it. They go to another are legitimate reasons for leaving the church. The word of God is not being taught are heresies being taught but but being confronted with their sin is not a good reason to leverage what happens is people do this and it stunts their spiritual growth and often what happens is it running the danger is left the fellowship for the wrong reasons. Six months later a year later, their life's a mess and I can honestly say the pastor Shepherd. I never take joy never go will go with the desert.
We visit all the boys I met one of Palmer life lesson. Do not run in the danger do not run into danger. See what once you begin to learn that behavior running when you face opposition, or when you're confronted with something you're doing wrong and you bail, you blast you take off. That's a learned behavior happen next time you're confronted next time some items this is a you know what this will probably need to address it. Your first tendency get out of there. You want to happen. Often time you running right into a gas right into a horrible situation.
Think about David's walking into gas Goliath was from gap is walking into gas with the sort of one of its most famous citizens and I guarantee you there were some people there that I was enough sword for he placed himself in danger, you realize we do that we do if my daughter was asleep out on the concrete on the street because it was feeling good is warm himself in the sun. I believe in their spot yesterday because I loving as believers we have to do that sometimes in an and when that happens to you notice it when I say if it will happen to you sooner or later is going happen everybody in this room and you have to make decision at that brilliantly make decisions now.
What we do not we say will literally tell me right, but he spoke harshly or related deliver Reuter and the receiver or even use it bumps or what you climb on were meant to be really David is a tight spot.

During these difficult times. Now back to David McGee verse 13 so we change this behavior before then pretended madness in there and scratch the doors of the gate lettuce saliva fall down on his beer. So there is act like it's great you know why because he can't he can't really be a party gap anymore. If you're here. You've asked Jesus to forgive you of your sense in your account flirting with the world and you're sitting on the fence you know what you find for the world anymore. The stuff they used to do that.
Maybe you had a blast doing it was a lot of fun and it is not that funny. You know why you don't fit anymore even change and you can't run from God because he's living on the inside of no matter where you go, no matter where you run no matter where you hot me when you and if you try to run me miserable and he's gonna be right there with David didn't fit in with word sojourners and pilgrims were different. That's just the reality were following Jesus. Jesus was marching to a different drummer man that you gotta see that we no longer fit in. That's just reality that don't try to fit in Jesus we will try to fit in and wait.
We get angry while drug are like those like thereby maybe the looks at me and then working even if it did work, you are very satisfied with our Jesus compliance is not forget about fitness and stamina stand out being different look different talk different wall different because that's what the world needs today was acting crazy Matthew question, what would you thought of you saw David at this point here is acting crazy, scratching on the doors, slobber slowing down his beer is hanging out gas with the enemy. David's hanging out with enemies got got truly and things to look at was got finished, absolutely no you know what there's people here tonight maybe running from God baby been trying to fit into the world and maybe you have little crazy because I finish with my factors people here who have loved ones who have relatives there in the enemy camp.
They looking like the crazy guys I finish with God is not finished with God is not finished. Don't you give up on you. Keep praying for you.
Keep interceding on their behalf because you know what I see miracles we can wake up. Don't you dare give up on somebody that God himself is not given up. Remember that verse 14 finish is said to his servants look you see the man is insane while he brought them to me there's an interesting thing in the email and just if you're taking this job to stem to refer to a couple these passages before close. Psalm 56 and Psalm 34 David wrote those songs during this time and that's why there's a little subtitle under the Psalm 56 that says this is what was going on talks about because in this moment, you and David think about what we don't have to guess we can know what they would think I give you on the references Psalm 56 verse tenant 12. This is what David's thinking in this book in God.
Our praises were in the Lord our praises were in God. I have put my trust, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me. Vowels made to you are binding upon me old God I will render praises to you and David is being hunted by Saul was his friend and his king is had to leave to go to the enemy's camp is in there is acting crazy. And yet, in his mind he's praising the Lord in spite of all these things I think a lot of times we think we can pray the Lord when we feel like understand you're going to feel like praising the Lord sometimes and sometimes you're not also.
I praise or maybe even more I thought about being transparently be transparent to understand that sometimes when we worship the likely worship. If you been everywhere long, you know that I've never come out here and sit, because I just don't feel likely worship just got that saying by yourself. Why is it doesn't matter what I feel like God is always worthy to be praised and it's called a sacrifice of praise, meaning sometimes you just you got to do it even though you don't feel like you gotta praise God.
What is is worthy to be praised and if you just praising during the good times what is everybody does anybody would do but that hast is when you praising when you don't understand is when you serve when you're confused by the stuff is going on around like David did the king continues verse 15's not going be the closing verse really stop here but there's other verses on refer to verse 15 how I need a madman that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence, shall this fella coming to my house. Psalm 30 forces.
This Psalm of David when he pretended madness before Abimelech drove them away and he departed and this is what he sent. I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Verse four I sought the Lord and he heard me and delivered me from all my fears verse eight through 10. Taste and see that the Lord is good and blessed is the man who trust in him all fear the Lord, you his saints. There's no want to those who fear him, the young lion's lack, and suffer hunger, but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing. If you have read the Psalms before you probably thought David wrote them in the middle of a worship service. Or maybe he was over the hills looking over Jerusalem or maybe praying with friend that was a priest or something in rabbinical. He's praising God. When people think in these crazy he's got drool running down his beard. He's on the run is no longer really looked at as a national hero but a traitor and sauce trying to kill, he makes the decision in that to praise God and love what was your reason for not praising God or serving God know this is convicted in trials should be able to praise God it if you can only praise God when things are going great. You know what it's a week and unproven faith and at some point there is a test or trial coming to your faith that will strengthen your faith as you make the decision to that trial to praise God. Don't say this lightly been through some of those and you know I don't want to go back to that place, but I know that in some time. At some point my life will be another desert will be another huge trial will be another big tribulation and I decide before now. Before that happens. Praise God in and I think that we should decide that individually tonight know some of you are going through trials and you're not sure what to do during this trial. One thing I can assure you that you need to do during the strong praise God praise God. Also like praising God and ask if he felt like praising God.
Is he worthy even when you don't feel like praising absolutely seat you can always find something that's wrong in your life that's just that's life with. This is not there's always something wrong is always good to be somebody that you have a fractured relationship with other selves going on and you can focus on that site. I can't praise God because so-and-so doesn't like me or so-and-so said this or I heard this and so I can't really or you can make a decision that you praise God enemy assure you when people see things in going on in your life that are trials and tribulations when they see praising God anyway. That brings so much glory to the king this people go you know I write in the missile trawler praising God that has to be a decision and friend here in the Melva trial and tribulation make that decision. The nine if you're not in the middle of something like that make it tonight because then when you hit it you can say no.
I've got this commitment to praise God no matter what friend do you know for sure that your sins have been forgiven. You can know right now only Legion a short simple prayer simply telling God you're sorry and asking him to help you to live for him. God wants you to pray this prayer so much that he died to give you the opportunity and the ability to ask him to forgive you. Please pray this prayer with me out loud right now. Dear Jesus, I believe you died for me that I could be forgiven and I believe you were raised from the dead that I could have a new life not done wrong things I have sent and I'm sorry. Please forgive me of all those things. Please give me the power to live for you. All of my days in Jesus name, amen it friend of you prayed that prayer according to the Bible you've been forgiven you've been born again.
Jesus said he would not turn anybody away who comes to him and he came for those people who knew they needed forgiveness. Those who were sick, not the righteous. So congratulations for you just made the greatest decision that you will ever make. God bless you, if you prayed that prayer with David for the first time we'd love to hear from you.
