Gotta give you wisdom beyond what you're able beyond what you know beyond your gotta give you wisdom.
Bible says if you lack wisdom, passport, gotta give it another another source of wisdom as you read the Bible as you study the Bible do not understand you will be empowered with was to simply walk according to the Bible teach according to the Bible taught the people according about. You will be using one life lesson. Pray for God to give you the strength and wisdom to face the difficult decisions of life.
Welcome to cross the bridge with David McGee Senior Pastor of the bridge in Kernersville, North Carolina today.
He is teaching through second Samuel chapter 3 and here the studio have one of the biggies assisting pastors meal to share with us great to be here with you Bob, great to be here with the listeners today and Pastor Davis can be share with us when things that difficult moment we needs strength and wisdom. What we do will meal we can look in the Bible, talk to friends. What else can we do we pray we pray we pray we ask God for that strength and wisdom. Really, that's an important thing for us to be doing and Pastor Dave so let's listen as David McGee shares verse by verse continues teaching through second Samuel chapter 3. Turn with me to second Samuel chapter 3 for those who haven't been with us and set up the chapter what's going on. Also, just a refresher for us who have been here second Samuel is a continuation of first Samuel we believe the part of these books which were originally one book in the Hebrew Bible part of war written by Samuel and we believe second Samuel was written primarily by Nathan and Gad. Perhaps what were not positive and now were into the story of David first Samuel dealt with Samuel and then Saul and David comes on the scene in first Samuel and now David is, of main players you will central focus of the book and what's going on now is there's a Civil War between David and the remaining son of Saul is what's going on and and there's contentious listeners battles and there's fighting in their Civil War in the nation of Israel people getting hurt. So that's kind of the set up chapter 3, verse one, second Samuel is now there was a long war between the house of Saul, the house of David, but David grew stronger and stronger in the house. Saul grew weaker and weaker. So when the civil the house of David was winning. We talked about last week helped the men that were with David were very experienced in finding and in battles where the people that were left remaining with Saul were those people who didn't engage in the last battle that's always been where he was killed and also three of his four sons verse two sons were born to David and have brought his firstborn was Amnon by and I am the judge.
Lightest his second Chilean by Abigail, the widow of Ney Ball. The Carmelite, the third Absalom, the Son of Man, the daughter of Tom my king of gesture. The fourth, I do not judge the son of the fifth shut Messiah of the son of a tall in the 63 by David's wife Axel.
Now these were born to David in had run when you are watching your king do this thing do this, Mary 61 and you are familiar with Deuteronomy 17 would you begin to protest go online. Maybe start a blog about how evil the king is, it's interesting in New Testament. Paul talks about submitting to authority about the time Paul was writing that Gina is the leader of the government that was over Israel at that time. Probably Nero there have been few men in the history of humanity that have been so twisted and perverted and and hurtful is near time pulses submit to the authorities. It's amazing thing to stop and consider six. Now it was so while there was war between the house and saw the house of David that Abner was strengthening his whole on the house of Saul, that there was a military leader under Saul and he's the guy they kind of got a shipment should to step forward to be a king. A shipment shaft was the fourth son of Saul, he was a weak man. He was a weak leader saw him and invite him to that final battle in verse seven and Saul had a concubine whose name was Chris, the daughter of a so is should Michelle said Abner why you going in the my father's concubine.
We need to understand how serious this is. Later on in second Samuel during the rebellion of Absalom felt interesting character, give him later but he gives Absalom some interesting counsel second Samuel chapter 1621 cases and the bill said Absalom go into your father's concubine is left to keep the house and all Israel will hear that you are reported by your father in the hands of all who are with you will be strong. I was the ultimate act of rebellion laying with the king's concubines was like taking his crown and wearing it on your head and concubines were part of the royal family.
There was actually a ceremony where they were placed into the royal family again. Doesn't mean the Bible says it's a good thing is I'm using the same that that's what reporting the facts just for the royal family household. It was treason to label the Kings document and here we begin to see there's real intent in promoting should Michelle to be king.
It wasn't out of loyalty to Saul and there was a power broker and he knew that if he moved this week man into place that he felt like he would be able to control his and and suddenly the man gets a little bit of a spine in verse seven as is widely known in the my father's document now. It's interesting because up until this point you can think what this noble God.
He's really want to continue the legacy of Saul and loyalty to Saul in the sort of thing that's not it were Henry to see his true motives can take some time sometimes to see somebody's motives. Sometimes money can be doing the right thing for the wrong reason and it takes time to see the motive for saying the right things for the wrong reason or saying something that sounds good but is really wrong.
That's why I've always been very slow in putting people in positions of authority in this church. Sometimes I've looked at a man and thought and think as a good leader and many of these Capt. or not.
I want to make him a leader nor do not just get a visual check. Okay, while only time after time, God is been right in leading me to wait wait very long mean I'll never forget this. I got interesting guy got what I think is the best job and were leaving college job just can't interesting member once in a nice, worn-out, tired, and this couple, they they took him inside. They said you know I will pray for you okay I said no, we will pray for you right now. Can you come over and sit with his gay that you think you're being paranoid. Pastor David know I sat down with them and they said we want to pray for Jessica Sinnott. We need to know how to pray as well. Pray for wisdom and discernment. We we want to know what's really going on what we want to know your struggles. Pray for wisdom in certain what we just we know you're struggling. We know you're going through some things you can just hear that this pray for wisdom and you can tell they were frustrated. They were flustered and they prayed for me. Two weeks later, the routing saying all kinds of stuff. What if I had shared that light stuff that was really going on revealed my heart is yours. Wisdom is not everybody and I don't mean to make you paranoid but not everybody that comes to you saying the right thing is really a godly person.
You have to use discernment as they can say what sounds like the right thing, but they're doing it for the wrong motives, so be careful and over time you can begin to trust people and over time I begin to trust men and there's there's there's men inherent in this church that I just I trust him with my life. Abner's motivations are coming to the surface. Verse eight.
Then Abner became very angry at the words of this bitter shift and sit at my dog's head that belongs to Judah today. I should loyalty to the house and saw your father to his brothers into his friends knew and have not delivered you and David and you charge me today with a fall concerning this woman. May God do so to Abner Moore. Also, I do not do for David as the Lord is sworn to him to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and set up the throne of David over Israel never Judah from Dan to receive while looking Abner's reaction is to call me and accountability of this woman I'm out here and try to get everybody else to follow David have a saying in ministry when a response is out of proportion to the stimulus. There's another stimulus because sometimes you can just say little things in my house and it blows up. There's more going on and then you sit back and prayerfully consider what was up with that response and under noticed this when Abner never really answered why he did something with that woman.
You notice he blows up, but he never answers a question you know that's just something we always got guaranty. Everybody in this room is used to once Evernote somebody ask you something, will you, but you never answer the question. So be careful when somebody asked you to respond about an issue respond to the issue because really what happened to resorts to hear. It was beyond its emotional manipulation. He gets upset.
This is what I'm to get everybody to follow. David open that he's going on holiday you know what I will make you King or something like that, but he didn't. Verse 11 we see again the weakness of Saul son and he could not answer Abner another word because he feared the marks of the king finding marks of a leader should taken this man a task, but he did see this patient is so hard to say this is was a week man. A week later in a week soldier. That's the reality. And when Abner didn't get his way with him a deserted verse 12 and Abner sent messengers on his behalf. Davidson loses the Lansing also make your covenant with me in the deed my hand shall be with you to bring all Israel to so there. Abner didn't get his way. So Abner goes over to David.
It's interesting to watch sometimes what happens when when you have a disagreement with somebody tells you a lot about the relationship when when your agreement with stuff is very rosy everything, but when you have disagreements is when you really learn about the relationship your first disagreement with a friend, your first disagreement in a marriage your first disagreement at work tells you a lot how you handle that disagreement and a lot of times what we do is we avoid disagreements at all costs. We have a disagreement we don't talk to him anymore. We avoid them in the hallway with voting at the store.
What had disagreement instead of working for the disagreement which strengthens us strengthens them strengthens the relationship people choose churches as long as they don't have a disagreement there fun for the moment disagreement happens from there out of and they miss an opportunity for them to grow for the church to grow and the person at the disagreement the growth as you have disagreements. If you never have disagreements with somebody with another person. What he was lying.
I mean**the reality and so you work these disagreement but Abner, he's not willing to do that is been interesting and once I have a disagreement. Once I have it, let me tell you this, I will appoint or anoint a man as an elder to. I've had a disagreement with kisses. Then I get to see as far these men come immediately. I really agree with what you're doing here but you got anointed. Years later, I'm with you never hear anything else about it in another hearts with friends when somebody comes to you about a disagreement there, stepping out into a very uncomfortable place because they value your friendship.

Now here's Pastor David as he continues showing verse by verse verse 13 and David said good I will make a covenant with you, but one thing I require of you shall not see my face, unless you first bring that call Saul's daughter when you come to see my face so David sent messengers to issue vicious chef Saul son said, give me my wife McCall who chose to myself for 100 foreskins of the Philistines in this vicious chef issue. This shift OSHA's bistro associate together – OSHA said and took her from her husband from patio, the son of Leah that her husband went along with her to bring weeping behind her.
So Abner said them go return and a return and Abner communicated with the elders of Israel same time past you were seeking for David to be king over you now then do it for the Lord is spoken of David St. by the hand of my servant David, I will save my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines in the hand of all their enemies, but it sounds good and there's like yes, God's anointed David Kerry money is been fighting against David for about seven years, but all of a sudden he's come to this realization that David is anointed to be king over his there's a smart guy there losing Abner will suffice for the winning side. He leaves the losing side. Elson comes this revelation, questionable David. David is a skylight of wisdom as you look at his interactions and leadership with the people he asked for McCall to come to him to be his wife get the call Saul's daughter who Saul gave to David, but then when David fell out of favor was also given to another man, David Asper back again while I think it was to build a bridge to those who were following Saul.
I think the well is a lot going on will talk about that. No time to David McCall with I think David and his wisdom God-given wisdom is making this call, Gotto give you wisdom beyond what you're able beyond what you know beyond your God give you wisdom says if you lack wisdom, passport, Gotto give it to another source of wisdom as you read the Bible as you study the Bible do understand you will be empowered with asset. Sometimes people ask me stuff and it just amazes me. People would ask me anything but think they asked me something and I tell him how Gunkel never heard that before the big guy and what I'm doing is speaking out of the wisdom that this book in God's place in my view, to simply walk according to the Bible teach according to the Bible, talk to people according about.
You will be using 11 is because this book is filled with wisdom like lesson pray for God to give you the strength and wisdom to face the difficult decisions of life. Pray for God to give it strength and wisdom to face the difficult decisions of life here. David's in a very difficult place.
He makes a great position to send you know I'm the keep fighting Abner I will and by war. Somebody does makes a very good decision because he's asking continuously for wisdom and Abner's decided to let David be as King.
It would seem wondering how many people here tonight that Jesus is really your king. Maybe your Savior. For a lot of it but is he really your king understand the nature of the king. The king can say I need you to go do this and you don't look at the came to Wyoming to use cocaine king looking good, but how many of us have less of. He's not really our king.
He can tell us what to do and will set will debate will set more arguments that will reason with the friend he's not your king.
Like the saying he's either Lord of all, is not Lord at all. Verse 19 and Abner also spoke in the hearing of Benjamin and Abner also want to speak in the hearing of David and have brought all the same. Good Israel. The house of Benjamin so Abner and 20 men with them came the David had run and David made a feast for Abner and the men who were willing. Then Abner said the David.
I will arise and go and gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you and that you may reign over all, that your heart desires.
So Davidson Abner away anyone face who is really delivering Israel to David that not really just a person stand in front of David. God is the one delivering Israel today. Remember that. Remember that next time. Perhaps if you get a raise at work, but the man standing.
A woman standing in front of you is not your source is not the source of your blessing is not the source of your needs getting me your sources.
God and that person that sits in front of you is is the vehicle that God is using verse 22.
At that moment the servants of David and Joab came from a rain brought much more with them.
Abner was not with David and had run for he had sent them away in a God of peace when Joab and all the troops over with them and come they told Joab seen Abner, the son of there came the king hastening the way and he is gone and peace now. Last chapter Abner held Joab's brother in about Abner actually warns the brothers should quit following me if you quit if you keep following me will have it out, you will lose and that's what happened. Verse 24 then Joab came to the king is and what he done like came to you that you sent him away in his Oregon verse 25 surely realizing Abner Sumner came to deceive you to know you're going out your coming in in the know all that you are doing the wisdom not to listen, discuss counsel, as this is bad counsel. This guy was saying you know what just come España. Let's continue on with the war. David has the wisdom and the perception the sea. The war is just killing a lot of people and it's a time for peace. Be careful is whenever there's a time to make a peaceful somebody there will come somebody that stirs up that thing you want peace in a relationship and you're about phone calls and email somebody will come and go. I can't believe you're not going email them or mindedness after letting you.
You just don't forget all careful Joab would have done well follows king and even though he disagreed with them should follow David's leadership, but he does and he ends up suffering and a lot of people end up suffering only when I get Joab is David's nephew.
So some family stuff going on probably as well. Verse 26 and when Joab gone from David's presence.
He sent messengers after Abner brought him back from the well of Sarawak, but David did not know that when Abner had returned to have brought Joe and took him aside and the gate to speak with them privately and there stabbed him in the stomach so that he died for the blood vessel held his brother Joab wanted revenge.
But you know what this is it really revenge because I had been killed in a battle actually been warned by Abner himself. Joab committed murder.
They were about any took advantage of the fact that there were some peace talks going is interesting. It's in have grown notice he took them to the gate some interesting stuff had brought was what was called a city of refuge, meaning that if you would messed up even to the point of killing somebody you could go to the city of refuge and they would determine whether you were at fault where you could not, whether you were not at fault and it was a place of protection you could not be messed with.
But notice what caused them to the city gate. Where's not under the protection anymore understand there's a protection over the body of Christ when you're plugged into a body interactive part of that fellowship is just a protection that goes with that year here in a body or hearing the word of God you got relationships or some other goalie should do that are really should be thinking that way and once you move out of that body never goes as well. I've heard so many stories after stores now and I know you sit here tonight and you get all I don't have to be in a church to worship God and follow God without going to church at the theoretically yeah maybe you know what I want it in every conversation I ever had was made that statement. You know what I'm going to. The point is that oh you can't get housing on was going real well right we need one another, God made it that way. One of us is like a big toe and others of the II guess on the mouth. You know in somebody else's and we all work together as the body. Pricing will need one. This is a refuge.
That's why the whole you know the whole thing about would come into the city of refuge was figure out what's wrong with you thing doesn't work. This is a city of refuge. This is a place is a safe place where you can say no I messed up. I'm really struggling.
We will beat you up beat you down.
You share your struggles to mainly beat you up or down. I want to hear about is I don't have a complex.
