Absolutely nothing less than five stars. Great, great show to you guys today. We're the pirates who don't do anything. Have you ever heard of that? We just stay at home and lie around. We stay at home, we lie around. And if you ask us to do anything, we'll just tell you. I didn't watch a video. That's the only part I know.
We don't do anything. One of the bad things about becoming a Christian at 15 is I had already missed all the good Christian programming. I started working here, and everybody knew VeggieTales, and I didn't. I was like, yeah, yeah. I had to learn the songs. You've got to watch classic VeggieTales, though. The newer stuff is out there, but the classic VeggieTales, pirates who don't do anything? Oh, man.
Never been to Boston in the fall. Dr. Shah, welcome to the ship where, fortunately, we do stuff. Yes, constantly. Let's just say these are some of the hardest working people you'll ever meet. I mean, they're constantly doing things, whether it's to help the church family, to do their various ministries, wear so many hats, but also pray.com.
Yes, pray.com. All that they're doing, this is their hard work. Not just these two guys, John Ryan, but also the guys behind the screens. They're constantly going, and I'm so grateful to them because God has put us together to bring you some good stuff. Amen. I hate to always just racket it right back, but I will say it's really easy to work hard when you work for someone who works hard.
Thank you. You never want the boss who sits behind the desk and tells you what to do. You want the leader, the general, who's in there in the trenches with you. I can say here at Clearview, we've got that. When the vision is laid out in front of you, we're going to impact the world.
There's a global impact. Absolutely, I'm going to work hard. I'm going to work myself here, there, everywhere to make sure that vision comes to fruition. What a vision worth striving for.
Hope Sunday happens. I know, right? That's kind of what we're talking about today. This may be a topic for another show, but there are definitely lunchtime conversations.
Dr. Shell will say this, and I'm not exaggerating. He'll say, I believe this church is going to change the world. If we do this right and if we do this prayerfully and if God is truly with us, the entire world is going to hear about what God is doing through this little church in North Carolina. I get up from those meetings and I truly believe it. We can change the world with God's grace and with God's help.
We can really do it, and I defy anybody out there to show me a church who has that same drive. I'm sure they're out there. All I know is I ain't seen it. I ain't seen it.
There are. Let me say a word about vision because right now what's happening in our world, and it has been for, I would say, hundreds of years, is people have a vision and then they set out to prove that vision. I mean, think about Hitler. He had a vision. That's true. That's true. Not a good one, but he had one.
I wish he didn't have it, but he had it. People like that, they had a vision. They had a vision and then they stepped out.
Marxism is a vision of what the world should look like or what the world should be like. And so they have a vision and then they go out with all the passion and zeal and resources to prove that vision, and that vision doesn't work out. It's actually destructive. It's horrible.
It does the very opposite of what they claim it does. Right, right. Our vision is not our vision. Our vision is really the Great Commission.
That's true. What Jesus said, go into all the world, make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, and lo, I'm with you, right? And teaching them to observe all things, all that. So that is the vision that Jesus gave us. So it's not a vision that we have crafted.
It's a vision that He gave us, and we're simply going out there and implementing His vision. That's right. And it has been proven to work through the history of Christianity and even earlier, right? I mean, God's people were always missionary people, and it's definitely working with our church right now.
That's right. We're going to dive into that on the show today because I think we've got a great, great topic about how to implement that vision and how to not miss out on what God has for you. But before we do anything else, thank you, gentlemen, know what it's time for. People have been asking about it. We had D.W. from our church. I don't know if she wants me to say her name on air, but D.W. from our church is saying, you know, you haven't played the Bible Guess It game in a while.
That's true. Well, guess what, listeners? Here it is right here. It's time to play a game. This is scary.
This is scary. This is a great game. So now Dr. Shaw and Ryan are going to be answering some questions.
This is a great game. They basically have 15 guesses to guess what this Bible thing, person, place is. Since Dr. Shaw is literally a Bible scholar, they typically get it in one or two.
This is the game that proves I don't know as much as I think I do. I don't think you're put on the spot and like, oh, I'm racking my brain. And then you say the answer. I'm like, oh, yeah, of course. I would say I'm not saying that to be funny. Like typically they get it in one or two.
Maybe sometimes we get down to three or four. But like by the 15th guess, you really, if you don't know what it is, then you've probably got to read the Bible. Okay. This is a thing. Really, I'm going to say it's a place. I don't want to say it's a thing because thing is like an object. This is like a place. Uh, I was on Mount Moriah.
Oh, like light. I mean like 10 commandments. No, no, no, no, no. It's not the 10 commandments.
I was on Mount Moriah. See, this is how it happens. This is the ram. It's not the ram. It's the bush.
It's not the bush. Huram furnished me. Huram?
Or Huram. God is not contained here. The tabernacle? I don't know if, I don't know if engineers are supposed to be. Yeah. It's Solomon's temple. I don't know if the engineers.
It was built on the Moriah. That's what I'm saying. You got it in three guesses out of 15. Yeah.
Okay. This one's a person. I went to Sinai first.
Then I came to Mount Moriah. This was the person. I'm from the tribe of Dan. I mean, uh, Samson. It's Samson.
Yes. You know why the engineer is talking? I'm about to lose my cool because he's off my, he's just giving people the answers.
He's like, hey everybody, I'm smart. I don't think there's many other Danites that we actually know about the Bible. No, it was Samson. One, one guess. Uh, this is going to be a place. Okay.
A desert road leads to me. Hmm. That's like a country song. Like a mess. Not a mess. I mean, um.
Yeah. I receded at daybreak. Receded at daybreak.
I receded at daybreak. Um, the Red Sea. It's the Red Sea.
It's the Red Sea. All right. Two more.
There's a road like Egypt coming out. Yeah. Two more. Okay.
Okay. I lived 110 years. This is a person. I lived 110 years. Hmm. I had two sons. Is it Isaac? It's not Isaac. Close.
I became very important in another country. Abraham? Joseph. Joseph. Hmm. Yep. It's Joseph. All right.
Last one. This is a person. People argued with me. I mean, Jesus? It could be. It could be anybody. Jesus? It's not Jesus.
I was full of the Holy Spirit. Uh, this is Stephen. It was Stephen.
Very nice. I love, I love that David is saying answers confidently off mic and they're wrong. I love that.
I love that. Yeah, it was Stephen. We didn't give him permission to speak. I rebuked him a bunch of times for speaking, but he was like, I'm over here. He can't reach me.
Permission denied now and forevermore. Yeah. It's like, it's like, Hey, I've kind of rebuked this guy on mic for like shouting answers now.
And he's like, but I'm over here though. So what can you do? Funny. Funny. Love that game. Thank you. It is. Thank you to our church family for providing this game with us.
Especially DW. Appreciate you. Bible Guess The Game by The Action Bible. So fun.

That's right, Dr. Shah. The first verse of the day is coming to us from the book of Lamentations, a book that people forget is even there. Yeah, it's a sad book. It's not a sad book. It's a great book, by the way.
But the people in it are kind of sad. Lamentations 3, 25, it says, The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. And to wait on the Lord means we just kind of sit around like the pirates who don't do anything. We just wait, and God will just magically solve our problems for us, right?
Just sit quietly and God will just pick you up by the scruff and just drop you right in the face. Waiting is most of Christian life. You know, we also talked about, you know, coming back to God is a lot of Christian life.
Waiting is a lot to do, has to do with the Christian life, because God wants us to grow, to mature, to be ready for the things he has for us to do. And we want to have those things now. We read a story or we see someone speaking or we, you know, know a public figure and we're like, I want that now. They must have gotten that from here to here, then, right then. And that's not true.
That's right. Because when you go behind the scene, you see them struggling. You see them, you know, facing hardships.
You see them dealing with people in their lives or, you know, people who turn against all these kind of things. So it's not just immediate. It's a long wait. But in the waiting period, God is preparing them and shaping them and smoothing away those rough edges. And the most important thing that God does in those waiting periods is teaching us to depend upon him. That's right. That's right.
That is the most important purpose of waiting. I mean, look in the Bible. There are people like Moses who had to wait 40 years in the backside of the desert. Not because he was not educated. He was. Not because he didn't know God.
He did. But that waiting period helped him understand that now God is going to do some powerful miracles through me. I need to obey him. I need to trust his plan.
And I need to be fearless. Right. One of the things I think I've learned from watching you, Dr. Shah, is that when I think when we think about waiting on God, people really do think that that it's I'm not going to do anything. I'm going to wait for God to do something. And really, what I've seen from you and I think what I've seen here at Clearview Church is we in the waiting, we're not like waiting passively.
We are working. We're constantly pushing forward, chasing God's vision, and we're waiting on him to bless it. We're waiting on him to reward it or even to elevate us to that next level. But it's not like we're sitting around waiting and saying, all right, God, what are you about to do?
Until you do, I'm just going to wait here. Right. That's not until he does be faithful. That's right.
That's not just like, you know, clock in, clock out. Be faithful means just like the parable. Be faithful in little things. If God has given you five talents, multiply them. If he gives you 10, multiply them.
If he gives you 50, multiply them. That's what we're doing here. We're multiplying them.
It's very simple. If you look at what we're doing here, it is all for the glory of God. It's all for the gospel of Jesus Christ. But we are through the gifts and the talents and the resources and the support he has given us. We are multiplying what he gives us.
And so he gives us more. It's very simple. People ask me, you know, what is the secret of what you're doing?
Or how did this happen? And we even have somebody ask. And so it's very simple. Read the Bible. See how Jesus talked about those three servants. Of course, it's in a spiritual context, but I think it also has application for the Christian life and ministry. That's right.
That's right. Multiply what he's given to you. And it's not just like throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. You approach everything prayerfully. Even with this Clearview Today show, it's been going on for two years. But here this entire week, we've been sitting down and talking and saying, now that we're on Pray, what does the show look like? What needs to change? Who are we talking to? What is the vibe?
What is the atmosphere? What is the mission and the goal? Does it need to shift a little bit? We know what the core identity is, but all these things change. And so it's not—what I guess the point I'm making is, it's not just saying, you just gotta press record.
You just gotta start talking and see what God's gonna do. Well, and it's not a set it and forget it type thing either. It's not just like, hey, this worked here. Hands off. This is rolling.
Keep the plate spinning in the air. It's God blessing that planning and that prep. And even, like you said, Dr. Tri, even in the waiting, God is still active and God is still working.
And I love that there's no moment of the Christian life, whether it's waiting, whether it's suffering through difficulty, whether it's rejoicing on the mountaintop, every moment is us learning more about who God is and who we are in Him. And I think today's check-in goes along very, very well with this. This is coming from Mark E. Mark has written into the show before, but he says, hey, guys, hope you are all doing well down there. I think he's from up north. I think he's from like Virginia.
He didn't put his state. I always appreciate your show and I hold you guys in such high regard that I ask for a small favor. I'm actually a writer and I've just written an online piece called Doubt and Missing Out and it's available on Substack.
Could you guys just take a quick minute and go to, and he gives his website, I'm gonna link that in the description, and tell me what you think. You don't need to say anything on the air or anything like that. Well, too late for that. Here we are. Here we are.
We're going to shout you out. I've done so well with what we wanted to talk about today. I'm just wanting to get the opinion of like-minded Christian individuals. Thank you and God bless, Mark E. So we're not going to read it on the air, but we will leave a link to this article that Mark has written. And it's basically about kind of what we're talking about. He says, you know, given the choice between doing something and doing nothing, I'm almost always going to choose doing nothing. And I remember a time in my life when I was like that, and I don't know if it was like a fear of messing something up or just actual just general laziness, but it was like, I'm just going to keep to myself, I want to keep to my own devices, make sure that everything is safe, secure, peaceful, quiet, and let the world changing happen for the people who actually want to do it. And this radical transformation that God has brought about in my life from listening to you, Dr. Shah, working under you, being here, hearing the preaching, I almost feel the opposite now.
When I'm just sitting still when I'm doing nothing, I feel anxious. I feel like there's some ground that can be gained. There's something that can be going on. And I like what he says here is that in this article, he's struggling with this because it's like, I know that I'm missing out on something that God has for me. And so I think there's this internal struggle, and Dr. Shah, I don't know if you ever struggled with that or if you've counseled people who did, but I don't know that it's laziness. I think it's more fear.
I think it's more anxiety, but you end up missing out on the blessings of the Christian life. Well, sometimes I think it is the wrong messages that people who are successful will often relate or give or write about or speak about to other people. How did you get to do what you're doing today? I've asked people that question back when I first started out.
So how did you do this? And I don't know what their motive was, but they didn't want to tell me. Yeah, many of them were like, well, you know, just preach the word, man, just get into that book and preach the word. Like, okay, I am doing that.
I have a question here on how do you organize this? Look, you know, God is not interested in your organization. He's interested in your faithfulness. Everyone seems to fall into a field of dreams explanation. Like if you build it, they will come.
I'm interested in the word. That's what I'm asking you. I mean, and I get it because it was like, okay, I do understand that. And then some would even get preachier than that and they will try to tell you about your motives are wrong or you're trying to, you know, bring this business mindset into ministry and those are two different things. And I was like, okay, whatever. And then you have famous pastors, you know, theologians who will put out a book out there telling us.
Or an online course. Yeah. And I'm like, how you should not try to be, you know, a professional in your ministry or whatever.
And I get what they're saying, but I'm like, you're doing that. Yes. Yes. You organize.
Yes. And you have a strategy and you have this vision casting and, you know, strategy building and how you're going to reach from this place to this place so you can achieve your vision. You do all that and you do it prayerfully. I'm not even saying that you're just a secular minded person.
You're doing it with prayer and in the right heart. You just don't want anybody else to find that out. I have. Yeah.
You're a hundred percent right. Just buy my book and my program. I have one. Come to my conference. Yes.
Hell guarded secret. I have 100 percent paid money for online courses on how to get better at like our craft, whether it's like mixing for worship or writing or whatever. I've paid money for how to get better. And so many times, a lot of the lessons here is, hey guys, the gear doesn't matter. But I'm like, you have a ton of great gear. That's one of the most expensive lights I've ever seen. You've got one of the most expensive guitars on the market.
Those pedal boards are at least $5,000. But I paid money to hear you tell me that the stuff, the gear doesn't matter. I was like, I want my money back.
Yeah. And people do that, man, because I think there's a, I don't know if it's a jealousy or what. Here's why they can't give you the money back because they're paying off all that gear. It's like, it almost feels like they don't want you to know. It's not even the secrets of success. It's like they don't want you to be part of the game. Right. And they don't want you to say that it's just a strategy that is working. And I understand that.
We know that it's more than a strategy. You may have God's blessing upon your ministry and your life. So there's nothing wrong with saying, okay, God's blessing is because we are, we're preaching the truth of the word of God.
We are, you know, raising up Jesus Christ as the only way, truth and life that we are truly helping people follow God with their heart, soul, mind, and strength that we're teaching them what it means to live a life that is totally submitted to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. So you're doing those things right. And that's great. And we want to do the same thing as well. But then you also have your plan. You have learned creativity and you've learned organization, you learn leadership skills.
What's wrong with sharing that with us? That's right. That's right.
And so I believe in the waiting period, God teaches us these things and he helps us to learn them, apply them, but then also pass them on. Yeah. That's one reason for the show. Yes.
100%. And I think he also brings the right people into our life. Like when we were in Texas, we were able to visit, we were able to visit a very, very prominent church that I know you've been following for a number of years, and it was almost the exact opposite. We went and... Is it okay to say the name of the church?
Yeah. It's Fellowship Church, Grapevine, Texas. This is Ed Young Jr.'s ministry. He's been there since 1990. So that makes it, what, about 35 years and done a phenomenal job. Oh, yes. Great job.
Great job. We were at the convention center and we were like, well, the church is only like two minutes away. It's literally right around the corner. And it was literally like, let's just ride by and take some pictures. Let's take a picture. Yeah, just see.
We'll just look at it. And one of their security officers came to the door and was like, hey, is everything okay? And we're like, hey, we're just taking pictures. And they were like, okay, no problem.
People do that all the time. And I remember the conversation got up and Dr. Shaw said, well, do you do tours or anything? And they were like, yeah, we give you a tour, come back in the morning. And we came back in the morning and they took us through the entire facility and they showed us around.
But you're exactly right. There were things where we asked them, we're like, how do you do this? How do you organize this? And they were like, yeah, here's exactly how we do it. And it was really interesting because it wasn't like we suddenly got new insights we never thought of. A lot of the things that they said in principle, we were already doing them.
And rather than be like, well, what a waste of a day, we're already doing all this stuff. It was like, this is an assurance that God has us on the right track. That's right. Absolutely. And I think that experience was really, really helpful for me.
And it also reinforced to us that when we learn these things, and one day there's a day coming and it's not that far away, when we will hopefully do conferences here or books or materials that you can get from us for a fee. Of course. Of course. So you can support this ministry. Anyways. That's right.
Nominal fee. I'm just joking. But hopefully to pass on those secrets to you that you can use. And they're not secrets.
I mean, everybody's doing them who are successful. And hopefully you'll also maintain integrity of scripture, the gospel, the truth, morality, all those things. And then use this to increase your platform and your impact and all that.
So we want to help people. Maybe you can speak on why they feel like secrets, because I think I know, and maybe you can kind of breathe some life into this. A lot of times in the Bible, this is something that you told me the other day, a lot of times in the Bible, people will pass over foundational aspects of doctrine and scripture because they think that it's either negligible or it's just a matter of opinion, but really what they're passing over is gold. It's foundational truths.
So maybe also in production or in ministry or leadership or whatever it is, they feel like secrets because you've always passed over them. But really they're just foundational truths that no one has the... No one has the... Copyright on them. Copyright on them or even the wherewithal to start looking for them. Yeah, they were there. You just didn't realize to look for them. It's the same thing with the Bible.
There are things in there that I never knew were important until we start digging. I mean, think about, talking about people using these skills, Charles Spurgeon, I mean, you would say, man, what a phenomenal preacher, you know, amazing, amazing man of God. But did you know that he used some of these visionary principles and strategies? When you read his biography or you read some of his letters and books, you realize, like, wow, this man was not just like great preacher and please come hear me. There are other things he was doing and they were very impactful and man, I mean, the people were lined up outside the Metropolitan Tabernacle waiting to get in and every Sunday morning at least a couple of thousand were turned away. Wow. Imagine that.
This is 1870s. A couple of thousand people have to now go across the Thames and go home. Or try again next Sunday. Yeah, try again next Sunday.
Just get there earlier. You know, I think about like people, I think about this idea that we're attacking our craft with wisdom and I think about how many churches there are in America, especially in the South where it's like, I'm just going to be a good old country boy who gets up and preaches the word and God will give me the success that I crave, the success that I'm too ashamed to admit that I crave. You know what I mean? Yeah. And I think about like how people even talk about Bible care, like Peter or John where they're like, these people, they were just ignorant old country boys.
They were fishermen. Little boys like us. But they don't realize like how much thought and yeah, exactly. They don't realize how much thought and effort they put into even those letters.
You know what I mean? Absolutely. How wise those men were, how educated those men were. Peter was not just an ignorant fisherman.
He could read and write. Have you thought about that? Yeah. True. And have you ever read Peter's letters for a second?
I mean, take some time to read it. Yeah. He was not just an ignorant fisherman. Of course, his Greek is simpler than Paul's Greek, but by no means, this is like an illiterate man just trying to pin something. Right.
I think we put that caricature on him because we don't want to go deep. Yeah. Right.
We want to be the loud mouth country preacher that everybody just seems to love. Yeah. And I mean, it takes you to a certain extent, but at the end of the day, really, and this is a way that you have helped me, Dr. Shrav, you really want to make an impact. You can't just work harder. You have to become deeper. Right.
Yes. And this strategy, vision casting, garnering support and gathering support from people and enlarging your platform so you can touch more people. All that is wonderful. But if you don't have the gospel, if you're not standing on the inerrant, infallible, inspired, authoritative, sufficient, necessary, clear word of God, then yeah, you can have a big platform and you can have a really amazing multimedia ministry and you're really good at marketing, but what is the result? What if you got someone like our friend, Mark, who's like, I want that.
I want that. It just, I'm so introverted and it doesn't come naturally and I want to be what you're saying. You know, what advice or encouragement do you have?
For one, I would say definitely don't abandon preaching the word, standing on the truth of God's word, sharing the gospel. Start in that context. Start looking around to see, you know, is this a place that you can see yourself spending the rest of your life? Okay.
Look around to see the context. If it's like only 20 people in that community and the next community is like two hours away. Yeah.
Of course. Maybe if you already are like at 10 and there's another church down the street that has the other 10 kind of tapped out at that point. I think you tapped out, you know, maybe do something else. Maybe if God's called you to stay and minister to those 10 and then build a multi, like a platform like we have done here with a podcast and radio shows and pray.com and video cast, then maybe stay there with those 10 people and from there touch the world.
That's right. Maybe that. Yeah, I think this is as, as much as it's going to get here. Maybe I need to move and find another context then, then of course prayerfully, prayerfully do that. And once you do any realize, okay, this is a place where I can see myself for the rest of my life. Then start, don't, don't wait for a, for some greener grass. Don't wait for something better out there that, you know, if I do this here, then somebody's going to hear about it and come take me to there, to something, do bigger.
No, no, no. Just make up your mind if this is the place that God has called you to be, then burn all those ships and then start building your life here. We did that. We did that back in, I came here to this church in 1998 as a youth pastor and then 1999 as the pastor of this church. And then it was not immediate.
It was probably a year or two into being here with a lot of discouragements and disillusionment. And then my dad spoke to me and he said, you know, cause I was complaining to him. I was telling him, you know, we're going to, we're going to leave this church. We're going to go somewhere better. And then he told me, he said, don't leave, don't quit.
He said, dad, but you don't understand. There's hardly anybody here as there's known. And he said, well, um, you do have some people there. You do have a community there.
And I said, yeah, there is. But in church Sunday morning, it's like 20 people. And um, you know, half of them cannot hear as well because being up in age and also not just being up in age, but this is a massive auditorium that can seat 500 and it's not very well, uh, you know, acoustically treated. So they cannot hardly hear me and then half of them cannot understand me. My accent at the time was not as, oh, I thought you meant like, like you were too deep. No, no.
Yes, I was that too. But they cannot understand me. They cannot hear me. What is the use? And he's like, you get up there and you preach like you have 5,000 people listening to you while watching you. I was like, oh, okay. Okay. Now this, imagine internet has just come, but we are not, uh, you know, like internet based people yet. This is the year is 2000.
That's hard. Yeah. I mean, there's no live streaming happening, you know, of course the internet is there, but it's not like what it is today. All the big impact is like happening on TV, I guess. Right.
But, but I began and look what God has done today and maybe we can continue this conversation later on. Absolutely. Absolutely. I'd love that.
