We may serve and honor the church may move forward in the Western prospered in these challenging times, heroes for Jesus sake, we pray.

Be of good courage. The text is Joshua chapter 1 verses 5 to 7. The Lord says I will be with the will not fail Leno for sake, they being strong and of a good courage circuit where living in a day when we need to be encouraged in the Lord. Considering all of the circumstances that surround us. The difficulties that we are encountering last time we talked about facing discouragement. The many things that do discourage us, we come today speak of finding encouragement. But then let's talk about finding encouragement and encouragement but going to the word of God. Joshua chapter 1 verse eight the book of the law shall not depart out of my mouth but sent meditate therein day and night, that thou may us observe to do according to all that is written there in then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and Bassett have good success on this is WordPress. Given the Joshua now Moses will no longer be the leader. He's let them fall to the wilderness journey and this is a new day time and Joshua becomes the leader and God is giving him instruction telling him that he must be courageous because his trust is going to be in God. So what's he telling us here, the book of the law shall not be part out of thy mouth for the three things in this passage that we need with respect to our involvement with the word of God were to talk about it were to meditate on it day and night and were to obey it. Not turning either to the right hand or to the left. Let's think about when you are facing discouragement do you allow Satan just to drag you down so that you think about the problem you think about everything that's wrong you think about even some of exaggeration that has been made in your own mind what somebody else said to you to bring about this discouragement, or you go to the word of God talk about.
You may have.
Talk to yourself him after reading Justin say I need what's there and I want to talk about it to others to meditate on it day and night sometime wake up in the middle of the night, and immediately what comes your mind thinks it discourage think about your problems, says, think on it day and night. It is to be an integral part of our daily life. How many times do you have to the Scriptures that you have been able to quote you memorized and so you're facing discouragement to quickly go to some that you recalled in the mix up the ticket time and time again that there still good there still God's word and you can count on. So to deal with discouragement. We desperately need the work of God, not just a week to talk about it. Just meditate on it but don't do what it saddens not turn to the right hand or to the left step out of place. Follow the narrow path of divine truth is laid down in his word and in close conjunction with that, not only by going to the word but not rely on the promises of God. Verse nine of Joshua chapter 1 have not I commanded the be strong and of a good courage, be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed for the Lord thy God is with the weather soever that was what a promise. Joshua might've had some apprehension or concern down the thinking Moses was such an outstanding leader. Now I've got to fill his shoes have followed, but the Lord says the strong courage being on a Friday. Don't be dismayed, not just to say all that might not have much impact, but the Lord adds to that by God is with the whithersoever thou ago was it makes all the difference in the world if you don't have to travel alone going to have to face difficulties if you are going to have to go through various challenges that come your way in life and you got a live in your own strength and depend on your own wisdom sure you feel like giving up, but when the Lord said, I will be with you changes the picture and he says that so often, the passage in Isaiah chapter 35 verse three says, strengthening me the weak hands and confirmed the feeble knee fun with weak hands. I don't think I can hold on much longer layers to difficult feeble knees feel like I'm going down for the count. I can't continue to travel saying to them that are of a fearful heartbeat strong fear not. Again, if that's all there was. In this passage. It's a bit much for me says that these were of a fearful heart fear, not fear. I will be fearful, but I cannot deal with here comes the rest of the hold your God will come with vengeance. Even God with the recompense. He will come and save you so afraid. Help is on the way the Lord says I will come and rescue and so there's no need to fear in our human nature to fear says I'm going to come and rescue and then chapter 41 of Isaiah's three passages in close proximity, beginning with verse 10 fear thou not that indeed is recognizing Scripture to give into fear is the tendency of human nature because there's repeated words, calling us not to fear. Fear thou not and quickly he says, for I am with the be not dismayed, for I am thy God will strengthen the AI will uphold me with the right hand of my righteousness and go down to verse 13 for the Lord thy God will hold my right hand, saying under the fear not, I will help the question, do you believe the promise of God is and will I want to leave but right now I don't see any change in my circumstances don't see a clear path about how everything worked out in the satisfactory way. I just I just came here, but here's the promise.
God says I will be and then verse 14.
Fear not thou worm Jacob and the men of Israel.
I will help the same as the Lord thy Redeemer, the holy one of that's the promise of God do you believe plate as we note is crucial in this Christian walk to get the benefit of these wonderful promises and then wonderful in the midst of trials, heartaches, disappointments, difficulties to remember suffering is temporary. Second Corinthians chapter 4 verse 17 for our light affliction, which is but for a moment working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory forced upon somebody reject Texas as well. My affliction is not light but it's light in comparison next point of the text. It's comparing the present situation what is coming.
So it's light compared to the glory that's going to come afterward and it is not for a moment. Some single audit all along on but it is temporary.
It is going to come to an end. I think about years ago visiting Elder ED Bryant when he was in the hospital and I knew that he had serious illness that he might not survive and he was so cheerful. He said right now. I'm glad to see you is that I'm rejoicing in the Lord because I know that the Lord is either going to heal me now or in the resurrection. One of the Solheim in his hands and when we come to recognize that whatever the sufferings are here last forever. And in suffering. Then to recall his mighty works.
Psalm 105 verse five says remember his marvelous works that he had done his wonders and the judgments of his mouth. Remember what God is what God is done for you. You can recall abundant mercies in your life sometimes gets in such a negative frame of mind and so full of doubt, fear and apprehension that they can't even recall past mercies, it might be good if you struggle with exit Panama get the right amount of your some people who write it out as you go along. Go back and look at your Darien and recall something God is done for me in the past. It was a dark day in God but with the doctors. It was a deep valley.
I know how to get Philip at the logbook with Philip you recall his marvelous works that he had done. Joshua had many of the wonders of God's work and call it witness.
He saw the 10 plagues that came upon the Egyptians, something he just read about or heard about.
He saw he was there he witnessed the death of the firstborn. The 10th plague that came upon the Egyptians. He was present and sell the Red Sea can't imagine what sterling's high-tech plots that hears this army of people that need to cross these Israelites and enslavers and now God is bringing them out. The Red Sea is in the rooms. The waters can they come across safely and then Pharaoh's Army in hot pursuit was drowned in the depths of the people sang the horse and its rider thrown into the city to see Shirley could say I could never God can do all things and then after they were starting on their journey they were in the wilderness, they were attacked by the Amalekites.
But two months into their wilderness journey there just was the general that led them to victory of good things to recall and so is God is telling him, be not afraid, be of good courage, be strong. He had every reason to do any fish I will not list is not for a long think a lot of outstanding deliverances that go back to the book itself. These things written before time for learning and conditioning you read about these things. Joshua saw you read about some of the miracles that were performed. About some of the great deliverances of the three Hebrew children for Daniel and the dinner blinds for Peter when he was imprisoned and all goes all right. If God has done all of these great things he can give me the help that I so desperately need. And then I would say the and encourage her, so I just don't know where obsidian I don't know what my place is in the church. I don't know what what I'm supposed to do what I'm going to give everybody here today. A biblical assignment.
You can't say you don't have a job. Your job is to be and encourage that the first thing you gotta do is encourage yourself. That's what you got to start you can't but encourage anybody else. If you're not encourage refinement in the book 1st Samuel chapter 30 the description of that devastating event when David had gone leading his men after the enemy and when I came back sick blank had been burned to the ground and their wives. The wives of these soldiers and their children and their families had she been there all I didn't know what happened soon. Perhaps that all been killed, so this was indeed a devastating experience in first Samuel 30 verse six and David was greatly distressed for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul all the people was grieved every man for his sons and his daughters got David you misjudge this thing. It's your fault his own land or thinking about stoning get rid of them had to be heartbreaking for Dave but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God, that I couldn't give us the details. That was exactly what he did not encourage himself in the Lord his God. He's facing potential dance is facing severe criticism. He's facing a loss of respect by those that he is glad but encouraged himself in the Lord his God. You read the Psalms of David and you can imagine what he might've said on this because you know how he thought it repeatedly came to the Lord in humility acknowledging is sin praying for grace to overcome. Praying for wisdom and strength to go forward and serve God in an acceptable way so you encourage yourself. Secondly, as a part of that encouragement not only to do just ejected what David did here, encouraging himself in the Lord, but it may be necessary to forget something's think we need to remember the things we need to learn from our trials and affliction, so that we don't have to go through the same thing again. We want to be sensitive and learn whatever God is teaching us in all of our troubles, but sometimes people get focused on past events, even sins that they confessed, but somehow do not feel forgiven. So Paul says in Philippians chapter 3 verse 13, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before I press toward the mark for the poor. The prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus, forgetting those things.
Overwhelmed with thinking of past disappointments, past experiences, past sins, whatever they are, then not only was that time disrupted, but the present is being disrupted by what happened in the past, forgetting those things that are behind and accepting things which you cannot change the person just gets all stirred up about some situation that they wish had not happened this way or wish I had done differently or whatever it is and you cannot change it after learn how to move forward. Nevertheless, what Joshua was experiencing. He was one of the spies along with Caleb, who would set it to Barney.
Let's go up at once. Let's believe God puts possess our position is going to the land, but because the people listen to the majority.
They wandered in the wilderness for 40 years for 40 years. Joshua was a part of that company or may have been times that he thought if we had just gone in when we had that opportunity.
We wouldn't had all of this difficulty on our wilderness drinks but say that was an event in the past it could not be changed, but it's evident that Joshua was not consumed by he continued to be a noble leader and led victory even when the enemy came upon them in the wilderness and so you first encourage yourself and then you encourage others by speaking of the goodness of the Lord. Psalm 145 verse eight, the Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger, and of great mercy of the Lord is good all in his tender mercies are over all his work's speak of the goodness of the Lord you believe the Lord is good about his goodness express to others how thoughtful you are for the goodness is been demonstrated to you in your own life you speak to others.
Words of encouragement like this. Psalm 102. Verse 17 says he will regard the prayer of the destitute and not despise their prayer reminded of Hebrews chapter 13 verse five. I will never leave leave nor forsake me. It's admitted that there times, God's children may feel forsake the psalmists referred to those dark days repeatedly but the promise still stands. The God of heaven, the creator of heaven and earth, the one who rules upon the throne working his way of accomplishing his purposes said I will never leave leave nor forsake me that when you're trying to encourage somebody to help somebody doing use the words meaningless phrases that people sometimes bring up etc. time of difficulty with cheer up things will be better. Well first of all you don't know that they're going to be better. They may get worse. So unless you're a prophet in the Lord is enabled you to see into the future you got no business saying that goes your talent so and particularly if a person is weighed down in the Molly Grubbs and eucalyptus a chair cheer cheer the person down. I gotta have something more substantial than that to Lee's well-worn trite phrases are not what can be used. But the promise of Almighty God. I will never leave the door for sanctity focus on being an encourager Barnabas we read about the book of acts actually was named Joseph, but the apostles gave him the name Barnabas, which means son of encouragement you read about him over and over again as one who was encouraging other people how would you identify yourself.
Are you one who was sometimes guilty of sharing your discouragement to the point that you discourage other people or are you an encourager Ephesians 429 says let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the year the words that you speak with a buildup of the inner fiber. They encourage the minister grace to the hearers.
Be strong and of good courage, we can be strong because our strength comes from the Lord. Isaiah chapter 40 verse 29 says he give us power to the faint and the Lamb that have no might he increases strength. We can be of good courage because we know that God is on the throne raining according to his pleasure accomplishing that which is to the glory of his name and the good of his people.
We can be of good courage, because God is the God of all grace. Salvation is by grace aren't you glad that that's true, it was left up to you, you would recognize I would be eternally lost and ruined, but knowing it's by grace. According the purpose of God who sent his son came into the world to lay down his life and redeem the people all those that were given him by the father he secured them so we have good news. The good news of the gospel. If you have faith in Jesus Christ.
You have his promise that you have eternal life to be of good courage, because he has promised to keep those who are his own.
There secured the father's hand and no man can put them out. We could be of good courage, because not only will he keep us and preserve us here, but someday he'll take us all to live with forever be of good coverage will be will will be how good to know that in the most difficult of time in the darkest of days. We can be of courage because the promise of the Lord, where he says I will not fail the nor forsake thee therefore, be strong and of a good courage.
