Happy almost Friday to you or if you're already awake on your Friday morning ouch but yay it's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. You can find me on Twix at ALaw Radio. I could use a Twix especially after a training run on Thursday afternoon. I usually don't do training runs during the week or if I do they're they're shorter but it was such a beautiful evening in my neighborhood. I hope it was in yours as well. Such a beautiful evening that I couldn't waste it. There was no humidity. The temps were in the upper 70s by the time it went out running.
Bob went out on his bike and so I decided all right before we have dinner before we watch the debate we will we'll go ahead and do some exercise and it was great. It was beautiful outside but now I wanted Twix. I feel like I earned a Twix. We have them in their vending machines here. Right except that I tried to get a drink out of the vending machines going back say four nights ago and all it did was eat my one quarter and spit out all the nickels. Yeah they tend to do that.
They do. It's rude. Also you're gonna laugh. I forgot to tell you this and so I feel like this is a good time to to tell you. I could have brought you the leftovers I suppose. On Thursday morning I made my weekly stop at the grocery store because it's easier for me to go on the way home. Just suck it up. I'm tired whatevs. Just go get the groceries done then we don't have to do it on the weekend when the stores tend to be a little more crowded.
Okay a lot more crowded. So I'm picking out our fresh vegetables and replenishing our spinach and salad stock and guess what I see? Fresh hand-tossed pizzas just waiting to go into the oven and there's an extra large supreme pizza just waiting for me to pick it out and take it home. They know you were stopping by. I think that they had me pegged.
An inside tip. They know Thursday mornings is my time to go to the grocery store and so I texted the the uh bubs the hubs the bubs. I texted the bubs and I said what if we have a fresh hand-tossed pizza for dinner after we exercise? He said supreme was his favorite too. Well I mean it's a match made in heaven. We've never talked about this before. That's wild. Yes we have had pizza before but I don't think we talked about supreme as an option.
So yes we now know we are meant to be together. It was destiny because supreme is our favorite so I took a pizza home. When he got done biking he put it in the oven and it was amazing. So I guess I don't really need a Twix because I already had pizza but I'm craving Twix. I mean the Twix will like fill in the cracks nicely as they say. Right.
What's the point of running though if you're going to eat pizza and a Twix? Well you don't worry about that later. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. Good to connect with you all on both Twix and Facebook. It's my own fault for calling it that. It's a night when I'm really happy I work in sports instead of news where I got my start.
Yeah I put that on Twitter and some of your comments and response are amusing. 8-5-5-2-1-2-4-2-2-7. That's 8-5-5-2-1-2-4-2-2-7. The Philadelphia Phillies have been one of the best if not the best team in Major League Baseball for most of this first half. We're not quite at the midway point but we're getting there. That is exactly what the Phillies fan base wants because they got close a couple years ago, got to the World Series, last year didn't make it back and they felt like they're right in their window, don't want to waste any opportunities. So as you can imagine, when your star player, one of your star players, leaves a game, especially the end of a game, a very end of a game with injury, there's a collective there's a collective anxiety right now in Philadelphia just because of his history. Harper was kind of pulling up to maybe try to avoid a collision of some kind. I have to review the call on the field to confirm the runner is out.
Now the ball game over and the Marlins take the opening game of this four game set and it might be incredibly costly for the Phillies, way more so than one ball game. I felt my lower hammy just a little bit so we're gonna get an image tomorrow just to see what that looks like, see how I you know kind of feel tomorrow and go from there. He just felt his hamstring grab going down the line, don't know anything more than that. We'll just have to wait till tomorrow and check him out. So forget the fact that he's out as you hear there on Phillies radio, good for the Marlins getting uh that win and good for Bryce Harper earlier in the day elected to his eighth All-Star game, which is impressive.
They had a long way to go on that contract though but eight is nice, eight is enough. So Harper as he's running to first base on the final play of the game, he grabs the back of his leg, never a good sign. Not a contact injury, there was no collision at that point, we're just talking about a grab and he did fall to the ground which a lot of times can look even scarier. Once he got over first base he crumpled down.
The Phillies challenged the call as you hear but Harper didn't, he wasn't waiting around for the replay review. He ended up limping off and down the tunnel and yeah it's kind of scary when you hear what he has to say about how this was unique. I've never had really any soft tissue injury besides my elbow so I'm kind of see like I said what imaging looks like tomorrow and um you know go from there. He went on to say if I had something to go back on I would let you know but I've never felt anything like this before.
So they're asking him his concern level and his response is I have no idea, I've never felt anything like this before. So that's one piece for the Phillies but also Kyle Schwarber. Now his tightness was in a different part of his body but this is the one two point that Phillies fans do not want to hear about. On the play when Sosa made the error and he made that kind of off-balance throw to second base he felt his groin tighten up so I got him out immediately as soon as I knew about it.
There again I have no other news. And here's the thing both Harper and Schwarber have had really strong months of June. The Phillies have had a strong month of June powered by those two guys and so you've got both Harper and Schwarber who will go through imaging testing on Friday. Schwarber seems confident optimistic which is good but when you add this to the list of the Phillies injuries remember they're without Trey Turner so he's not out there or he sorry he wasn't out there for six weeks is what I meant to say. And they also have JT Realmuto he's on the injured list so they've had this high profile list of guys who are dealing with injuries. JT's was the torn ligament in his knee and so he's out for an extended period. You've got pitchers as well that are on the IL.
Yeah it's frustrating. Now the thing is it's middle of the season there's so much time left and that's why you don't want to gamble with injuries at all because you you'd rather have them miss an extra week now than miss a week in the playoffs or even worse come back before they're ready and then either retweet the same muscle or pull something else from compensation. So yeah I mean you're talking about an all-star list of guys who've who've had injuries and let's hope that Schwarber and Harper don't end up having to miss time at all.
It's after hours with Amy Lawrence. We've been talking about the Baltimore Orioles and how they're trying to reel in the New York Yankees atop the American League East. I remember the Orioles won the division last year had 102, 101, 102 wins and it was this resurgence season for them and Orioles fans so excited as they should be. A lot of you told me this is just the beginning for the Orioles and they've also dealt with some injuries but on the road in Arlington against the World Series champions on uh nope not Friday I so almost jumped again on Thursday night. Hurston rockets one straight away center field. Tavares got twisted around gets the wall he's looking up it's gone.
The first of the season for the Silent J straight away center field for Kurstad. One one from Gray. Mullins rockets another one out to deep right field.
Does this have enough? You better believe it it is gone. Over the flag court a two-run homer by Mullins. Rudgevin rides one out to deep right field. Garcia turns around and watches it go.
Welcome to the party. Adley Rudgevin number 15 on the season. Colton Kouser will take on the new pitcher it's the lefty Brock Burke first pitch swinging. Kouser lifts this one heading out towards the bullpen back at the wall and it's into the pin. Another home run for the Orioles. Their fourth their fourth of the evening and a double digit stomping of the Rangers 10-2. The Orioles coming off the victory over Cleveland on Wednesday night and then hammering the Rangers pitching to the tune of four home runs.
That wasn't it they ended up with 14 hits including the four homers and 11 runs crossing the plate. So yeah they were able to flex their muscles a little bit get their their bats well as they keep their bats hot because some of their injuries had to do with pitching too. But I like the fact that you've got them pushing the Yankees and that we're going to get potentially a second half of the summer in which these two teams could go back and forth atop the AL East at this current point. This is just now the Yankees have one more win but they have one more loss as well and looking at percentage points three one hundredths three one hundredths of a percentage separating the Orioles and the Yankees atop the AL East. Currently the Orioles have the edge by three one hundredths of a percentage that yeah that is where they are now it won't be where they are at the end of the season. But the Yankees they've lost four in a row the Jays had no troubles with them at all on Thursday night and I know that Aaron Boone he's playing it off like this is good for us it's just you got fans getting antsy. These are little things in the season that suck right now but that also make me feel continue to feel really good about this group and where we're going. You know we'll look back in this time and it'll be something that's that I know is going to be end up being good for us. Adversity never hurt anyone and no team starts out the year ready to win a championship. I do believe adversity is good for every team as they go through it just as a side note think about the Edmonton Oilers the fact that they started three nine and one it's crazy I remember that three nine and one they were ten points out of a playoff spot at Thanksgiving and they end up as the best team in the western conference or best team for the for them in terms of where they peaked and when they peaked it was exactly what they needed and I do believe the the adversity pushed them the adversity brought them together it can do that with human beings right when we're forced to to battle together and fight together it generally tends to increase the bond tighten the bond but also add to chemistry if you've got the right guys right in front of the right leadership in your locker room so yes this was a victory for the Blue Jays who are still below 500 and another loss for the Yankees and Aaron Boone is going to accept this as adversity I'm sure I mean I I just want to constantly remind people it's the end of June but it was the Yankees ninth loss in 11 games so they're going the wrong way you're going the wrong way tomorrow's must win stop it he did not say that it's June nothing is must win in June that's a negative Ghost Rider Jay Jay's cackling to himself behind the double-paying glass maybe not in this post game uh last night but he did say it once say it once yeah once once going back four or five years yeah it's a must win by the way Vladimir Guerrero maybe he's uh showing off maybe he's auditioning for a Yankees gig because he had a solo home run uh and recently said that okay it's a business so I maybe will reconsider my previous hard line stance that I would never play for the Yankees I had that audio but unfortunately he did the interview in Spanish so I mean we've got an entire audience that could understand exactly what Vlady is saying see a little bit of baseball into your life on this Thursday night as we head toward the weekend setting you up coming up though we did our would you call it a eulogy I guess we did our post season wrap-up of the Dallas Mavericks and we talked about them and their possibilities we heard from their general manager well the Celtics have been busy and so is their play-by-play announcer he's uh ready though he's ready to talk about duck boat parade about the Celtics dominance this year also he's got a new gig coming up too which I think is a fun change of pace so Sean Grandy a voice you know well that's next after investing billions to light up our network t-mobile is America's largest you are listening to the After Hours podcast Richards kick out for a Sam Houser 3 that rims out but it's no longer what could be or what might be now it just is the 2024 Boston Celtics are one of the greatest teams in NBA history they were told they had to win there's only one thing you can do when expectations are that high meet them and there's only one way to stop being haunted by the ghosts and the legends and the champions of Texas building join them together they have and together they stand alone on top of the mountain the Boston Celtics stand alone for all time it is banner 18 the mission demanded is mission accomplished this is After Hours with Amy Lawrence we still deal in audio around here the Infinity Sports Network and After Hours with Amy Lawrence and Sean Grandy along with Cedric Maxwell the long time radio play-by-play team of the Boston Celtics as he delivers the final call of their championship run however he's now a YouTube sensation there are videos of these final calls and this has become the thing where final calls are taped and thrown up as a video as well so you get to see body language and facial expressions and the people around them still though I'm going to introduce him as a radio guy as Sean Grandy joins us it's been about a week and a half since the Celtics wrapped up game five in the NBA finals against the Mavericks it's been just about a week since the ticker tape parade the duck boats just about a week since the ticker tape parade the duck boats I don't know whether or not they've cleaned up the confetti in Boston Sean but is it calm yet if by calm you mean hung over yeah uh I mean that's sort of the reason that's what happened in this town it was that you know that kind of celebration just an over-the-top thing as someone who went through it in 08 and did the duck boat thing on the exact same route it it was just bigger it's the indication of what league is the build up of all the years a new generation of fans all of it but it felt you know 08 felt like you were at the center of the universe when the Celtics won and this was just a much bigger thing the big difference of course is that you have your son jack with you now where you didn't in 08 what was it like to ride on a duck boat in a victory parade with jack that was the whole thing for me because I had done it I did it the first time you know I did it as a as a single guy 2008 you know in in my 30s and now you just live you live your whole life as a dad whether you're whether your son got drafted into the NBA today or your had your son a duck boat you're living for your son at this point and to know how rare this is in life and people joke one of the reasons people like Boston is because it had been five and a half full years since there had been a championship here and what we joked about was that you know there are kids here or 10 11 12 years old that don't even know what it's like right to win a championship because it had been five and a half years but you know jack got to go to game five and he was there with my wife Dana and a lot of people saw the pictures they went they went viral them sort of celebrating when they finally won but if you think about the little tiny arc for kids that age where this team has been close right year after year and when you're 12 as my son is that's like your whole life your whole life is the Celtics getting close and not winning that's all you can remember but it was amazing obviously to experience it through him as you know now a lot of the stuff Max and I do Cedric Maxwell is on video but if you watch the call of the end of the game you'll see me at some point I'm just looking to I'm looking away from the court and off camera to my left because I want to make eye contact with my son who's sitting you know 20 25 30 feet away in the stands of that moment when you know your kid experiences his first championship so there was a thing I said it was about kids how the kids sell the kids of the 50s get one more and sell the kids of the 80s who watch max and and the big three they have one for their kids kids of 08 now have one as adults and the kids of 2024 finally have their own and that was I did that for my son uh because it makes you realize when you're in a job like mine I was talking to Susan Wallman about this exact thing about when you're the voice of the team for a long period of time you're constantly refreshing you have the memories but everybody's perspective is different because everybody's entry point is different and so you've got to celebrate the championships in real time this yeah it's 18 but for a lot of Celtic fans that was number one so I saw this study from Sirius XM media it indicated that nearly one in four sports fans have cried over the outcome of a game or event they've watched not one they've played in but one they've watched and 68 percent of sports fans in our country they believe sports bring their families closer together and every time there's a championship whether it's the Celtics whether it's the Florida Panthers who never won one and the stories that come out of it it always feels like that's underscored we have so much emotion over it but yes fans and families come together in a different way over championships it's crazy it's how small a world it is when I was at Boston University as an undergrad broadcasting games on student radio Keith Kachuk was on the BU team and a week after watching the Celtics win I'm watching him celebrate with his son winning a Stanley Cup his son who in ninth grade was a classmate of Jason Tatum in St. Louis again it's sort of the the beauty of all the bad things about being old like your knee everything hurts and your knees hurt and you're all the bad stuff that comes with getting old having the perspective of having been through all this and understanding how rare it is that these moments happen for a Florida Panthers or for you know uh Kachuk and Jason Tatum and for a new generation of Celtics that was the beauty of it is that I remember talking to David Aldridge before the game about the pressure you are inherently under as a Celtic when you walk into that building as a Celtic you're playing under the 17 banners you're playing under all the retired numbers and what I think I said at the end was something along the lines of the only way to exercise the ghosts of the champions and the legends and the names and the numbers and the banners above you is to join them it's the only way you can do it and that's what that's what this team did and that's the remarkable thing is that Celtics teams won before but there had never it's rare any team in any sport has had the kind of pressure that basically from opening night it was you know you have to get to the finals or you have to win the championship but this thing is an epic failure and to do it under those circumstances and to do it as dominant as they did it it's a pretty amazing thing Sean Grandy that voice play-by-play of the Boston Celtics all the way through their game five against the Mavericks that celebration inside the garden and the 18th banner that will be raised at some point before next season it's after hours with Amy Lawrence okay this is a question because you've got both perspectives Brad Stevens better coach better architect amazing that we've had this discussion right yes it really Brad Stevens for perspective three years ago this isn't 12 years ago three years ago Brad Stevens coached the game in the playoffs people will remember it because it's one of the few games that the Nets had Kyrie Durant and Harden played together one of the eight right they had those three guys Brad Stevens coached a team in a playoff game that had Evan Fournier Romeo Lankford and Tristan Thompson in the starting lineup on the other side of that Nets team and the next day that's the team he took over the next day and literally three years later they win the championship walking backwards after going to the finals the first year and maybe Jason Tatum turned ankle away from going to the finals last year so has anyone had a better three years I think Brad Stevens legacy as a coach is actually getting hurt by how absurd these first three years have been and for a guy that preaches just hit singles just hit singles he just drives him into the gap every time starting with you know trading Kemba Walker for Al Horford and virtually every single thing he has done has been hit after hit after hit and look at what he did in three years with salary restrictions with all the above and the bottom line is he just won a championship and basically his first run here as a general manager he won a championship so by that measure uh people are going to be saying it's like right it's like when Adam Silver in his first year takes over for the legendary David Stern and in the first year he's got Donald Sterling stuff and whatever and pretty soon it's going to be like he who's that guy that came before Adam Silver he's almost like wait wait Brad Stevens is I mean they're going to be little kids going wait Brad Stevens was a coach I mean this is the this is the way of it I I hope this is going to be a crazy statement I hope one day he coaches again because I do too he still has he still has unfinished business in my view as a coach and none of these jobs are seemingly long term like he was an NBA coach for eight years that's a long time when I sat down with Imea Doka opening night in New York in the fall of 2022 and we started our show I started it by talking about April of 2004 17 and a half years earlier because that was the last time somebody other than Brad Stevens or Doc Rivers was on the other end of the headset with me that's how in in a world in which coach coaches change about every two two and a half years in the NBA particularly if it's Monty Williams then you're gonna you don't have these long it was an absurd you had nine years of Doc Rivers and eight years of Brad Stevens that doesn't happen until a young enough guy to write his own ticket but obviously there's some business I you know I think everyone around here really feels that the Celtics have an opportunity to be around it the next couple years obviously they're going to start next year without Porzingis and pretty soon you're going to be dealing with the second apron and all the things that come with winning and the quick turnaround and guys playing in the Olympics in the short preseason and going to Dubai so are the Celtics going to win 64 games with uh the fifth best scoring differential in NBA history next year probably not but again now just like Denver they're the they've got the title belt till someone can take it. You mentioned KP so probably going to miss the start of the season but what other pieces could change on this roster for next year? I don't think a lot I think the year after is where you're going to could start to see some changes I think you're going to have to lean more on younger players who've come into the organization last couple years I'm thinking presumably of Jordan Walsh who had a really good year at Maine. It's a tough spot Celtics drafted everyone seems to feel the Celtics drafted particularly well particularly taking the kids from Creighton in the first round Shireman but it's a tough spot because the Celtics are in a position where you do you want to use a first round salary slot on a guy who's not going to play that's the tough side right about winning and having all your guys coming back uh you know we don't know what's going to happen with O'Shea Bressett yet because he's going to opt out of his deal are the Celtics going to be a little bit vulnerable any changes they make you have to think about up front because you're going to start the year without Porzingis and we can keep pretending that you know Al Horford is turning into Tom Brady right like how many more years is he still going to be Al Horford he's going to he's 38 years old at the start of the season and presumably right now you're looking at Al Horford is starting opening night like how many minutes is you're going to want him to play early in the year if you're not going to have Porzingis till December so there's always work to do in the short term but I think this core group you certainly expect to be together you're hoping the best health wise for Porzingis that this isn't become if this was the 86 Celtics you don't want Porzingis to become Bill Walton where you got everything you could get in 86 and then that was basically going to be it but presumably he comes back and gives you 50 games next year and is healthy in the playoffs you're certainly looking at this three-year window before you'd have to make any dramatic changes Sean Grady's with us tying a bow on the Celtics championship run and it was just announced that you'll be part of NBC's Olympics coverage what's that mean to you if you grew up watching the Olympics I was probably raised by NBC Sports in so many ways so to get a chance to do national work for NBC Sports so really just to say that I got to do an Olympics like I grew up watching Howard Cosell do Olympic boxing and so now to to get to do it even the way things are going to be done in 2024 it's it's pretty awesome I gotta say they always there's a joke I got a text from my buddy Kenny Albert the other day like oh I'll see you in Stanford he's doing the water polo and I'm doing boxing and the joke was always like if you had if there were ever two guys they could cover an entire Olympics like we'd be the two right like okay you do the equestrian and you do the ballroom dancing I'll do the boxing whatever that because that's you know we had this crazy life but luckily there's going to be like 150 of us this whole team of broadcasters and analysts whatever going after all these sports so I know it isn't the same covering the Olympics isn't the same nothing is the same as it ever was you gotta you know we all we all have to move on like there's going to be nfl games on peacock and there's going to be major fights on Netflix and there's going to be major fights on Netflix and al michaels on AI as long as you're not AI Sean Grandy hey yeah that's that's the only my job is safe for now so they can figure out how to get AI to call play by play in real time then we're all done uh-huh for the moment like cross our fingers that they haven't figured that out I was a little worried because there's thousands of hours of of my shows out there on digital now and yeah there's probably a chance that an AI computer or program could put together an entire show of after hours without Amy Lawrence scary it's coming I mean hopefully we've got enough we're far enough into our careers and can get enough money in the bank that by the time the machines are truly ready to take over we can we can just sit back and retire look back on the members remember those times we actually did the shows ourselves all right we actually traveled to the games you're part of the old school you can find Sean on twitter at Sean Grandy PBP now there are videos out there so he's not just a radio sensation anymore long time voice of the boston celtics the photos though from the duck boat with his son are priceless so make sure you check those out and congratulations to you another season in the books you're getting to be old my friend but I hope you enjoy your off season I'm sorry and I couldn't speak into my good ear I can't in my don't feed the monster that was the beauty of I'm so sorry to see Mike Gorman the legend leave because for years that was the beauty of it I was always around Mike Gorman Tommy Heinsohn and Cedric Maxwell so I could always I had this illusion that I was the young guy because I was always the kid right in that group so you have no real sense of your actual actual age just surround yourself with all these older people but yeah reality sets in every morning when my knees hurt oh thank you Sean you got it he's a goof uh but he's terrific at what he does and as he regurgitates names and numbers and stats and he does this on his broadcast too I'm always so in awe of him so pretty exciting he gets to check a bucket list item off his uh off his list of of being able to what would you say bucket list item off his list that sounds weird he he'll be checking a item off item off his list bucket list yes uh and then uh calling the Olympics except I wish that he could be in Paris but yeah this is what I was saying is there's the vast majority of broadcasters for the Olympics who are actually going to be in Connecticut instead and so on piggybacking on to that because we've been talking about AI and I just kind of drop it in the end there with Sean uh Marco's here in studio and I had to read you this response to you know I had to read you this response I had to read you this response to my post yesterday about Al Michaels and the AI generated Olympic recaps a guy writes back it's so sad to learn that Al Michaels has passed away I must have missed the news back when he died we don't want no two-pack holograms or Al Michaels AI voiceovers I mean his reaction is not wrong it's look it's wrong because Al Michaels is alive he's 79 he's still with us luckily however if you're using AI if you're using AI it automatically makes you think well the guy can't do it he could just voice these himself seven million of them they how many seven million combinations yeah they're saying they have seven million different combinations and ways of this could go but he doesn't need to do seven million recaps they can't be that many events it's not possible now you get combinations of all the different they're tailored to each fan based on what you search for and what you like it's all algorithm based it's tailored to your phone and your search history which is scary enough how difficult is like a 15-second recap that they write the script for him and they send it to him he could bang this out in 20 minutes there's not seven million recaps are you kidding every single night to tailor the recaps to the people who are asking let's just say there's a hundred thousand people who want to recap no no no so you don't have to do that you don't have to do it for every person that asks you just have to do a recap but the point is you do every event name well sherry well jason thanks for asking marla we need that hello hello amelia that's where we are in life because you got to hear your name from al michaels that's why we need ai isn't that what the purpose is so popular hi kelly hi kelly this is what we need now this is the hello donald so it's not so so let's so let's be fair so it's not the recap you want you just want al michaels to say your name congratulations personal that way it's not it's not even him it's not personal it's about as far from personal as you could get it's a computer-generated voiceover stop except i'm just saying except this is they're they're expecting that there will be seven million different downloads that ai will generate for each person individually that's a lot of work al can't do that no but see that's work that doesn't need to be done oh you so that's your point really is you don't think it needs to be personalized if that's the reason why we're doing ai so that people can download it because that's what we want we want to download and the only reason you're downloading it is this here an ai version of al michael say your first name ty kelly that's what we're here for since you're a swimming fan what are we doing marco since you're a swimming fan honestly and i say this to everybody that's about to download this hello tim get a life you're a boxing fan stop it hello julie since you really enjoy the swimming get a life hello marco since you are a huge fan of basketball i mean what what what the hell are we doing we don't need the recap to begin with but that's the equestrian highlights but that's the draw in that's the draw in i gotta hear a computer version of al michael say my first name this is where i am in life yes this is where we are this is this is it oh give me a break why they're paying him extra come on all right come marco's fired up we're gonna give him a fire i'm depressed that's the three seconds to breathe breathe meanwhile there's a dude out there who thinks al michaels has passed away because he's being ai recreated on twix a law radio speaking of guests and sean just rocked it of course but uh i love your reaction to our conversation with bill lindsey and guess what there's there's still hockey they had their nhl awards on thursday night do you think anybody watched them i feel like the nba got smart and moved the second round of the draft earlier in the day how many people do you think actually watch the nhl awards uh the problem is is do the nhl even realize that's the worst part that's true often we go up against things i didn't know that anybody watched anything other than hockey they host events at the worst possible times it's it's pretty fun hockey and baseball it's almost like you don't want people to watch what you do they don't read the room very well maybe they're the they're the ones downloading so they can hear somebody say hi rob great thanks hi gary tremendous appreciate it hello jonathan daily olympic recap i heard that you're a big fan of speed walking this is where we are it's after hours with amy lawrence you are listening to the after hours podcast 20 seconds to go in the season game seven stanley cup final the owners come up ice one last chance boost start up the right-hand side through dry settle panthers will try to pin it in the corner ten seconds to go seven seconds florida two and it's in one oilers pulling two seconds one second the season is over the florida panthers have won the stanley cup two one in gate seven this is after hours with amy lawrence the more i listen to that jack michaels call for oilers radio the more i believe that if you're not informed you flip on the radio and you don't realize you're listening to oilers instead of panthers you might actually think that's the final call for the panthers and i know that because jack is my friend and and because i'm familiar with his broadcast style he brings that same energy and that same professionalism that same excitement regardless of what's happening on the ice he wasn't going to sell it short and make it sound like he just lost his best friend when he's doing the final call of game seven of the stanley cup final especially not when he spent so much time talking about how it was the biggest game in nhl history and if not the biggest at least one of the biggest but you might not know if you don't recognize his voice or you don't know that you're listening to at oilers radio you might think that's the panthers call because of all the energy and the excitement that he puts into it it's after hours with amy lawrence on cbs sports radio this headline caught my eye the general manager of the oilers is out he and the team even after a run to the stanley cup final for the first time in forever he and the team have agreed to part ways uh they're they're not reviewing the contract of ken holland he's a hall of famer but he was in the final month of his deal they didn't have a new agreement and after five seasons he's out which i think is sus based on the fact that they've got two of the best players in the nhl and they did finally get to a stanley cup final and i think capitalizing on their window and then forcing a game seven that's yeah that's a big deal now he was with the red wings for years which is why a lot of you in detroit know who he is they were that close to winning their first stanley cup since 1990. a couple of the awards that were handed out on thursday evening if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it does it actually make a sound well yes yes it does nathan mckinnon the great center for the colorado avalanche is a first-time winner of both the heart trophy and the lindsey award now this is the media award and then the award from the nhl players association for what is the the most valuable player in essence congrats to kuch and connor uh could easily be any of you guys i think everyone knows it was such a toss-up this year so um i'd like to thank the writers uh truly honored some of the my favorite players ever have won this trophy so uh super happy excited uh to share with my teammates obviously team award uh goes without saying like quinn said you need great players around you uh once again the cronkeys uh joe cmac bedzy all the coaches my family uh charlotte appreciate it everything so he beat out nakuta kucharov nikita kucharov and connor mcdaven so you hear him mention kuch and connor uh for the heart but he also be austin mathews for the lindsey award yeah so it's one coming from the media one coming from his peers and he had a career high 140 points this season also had a record to start the season of what was it like 35 games in which he had a point uh which is yeah wayne gretzky territory that we're talking about quinn let's see quinn hughs wins the norris trophy is the top defenseman and connor bardard former number one
