Oh, yeah, you haven't lived until you've seen pot bellied pigs race around a track. And also just a suggestion. You know how sometimes the power of suggestion can be it can be.
Just a word that you hear that you see that you even think about or that someone else sends you in a text and all of a sudden, whoa, brain starts working. Great idea. So pig races. The video is up now. Producer Jay managed to put it on our Facebook page after hours with Amy Lawrence.
It's already up on Twix at a law radio. I'm telling you, your Monday is made when you watch this pig race and please watch to the end. You may think you've seen the whole thing.
Wait for the ending. Also, pardon my laughter. I was laughing because it was so terrific.
People are cheering. I'm hoping there is no betting on the pig races at the New Jersey State Fair at the Meadowlands. Anyway, there's pictures up of just the gorgeous sky. There was a sunset.
I was up on top of a Ferris wheel when I was taking photos. So that was kind of neat. And then the pig races will make you smile, even if it's the first thing you look at on your phone this morning. Glad to have you with us. Thanks so much for hanging out with us. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence again on Twix at a law radio and then our Facebook page to our phone numbers 8 5 5 2 1 2 4 2 2 7.
The power of suggestion, though, is all I'm going to say. Fried Twinkie on a stick. I love fair food. One time every 10 years, maybe, have I been to one? Actually, I've been to one probably since 2011 or 2012.
It's the first time going to a state fair in a really long time. And there are, I don't know how many booths, dozens of them offering all manner of fried things. One of the booths even said all the fried things.
That was the title of the booth. You could pick from fried pecan pie, fried Snickers, fried Oreos, fried, shoot, fried dough, of course. Oh, fried Reese's peanut butter cups.
Just amazing. I had a fried Twinkie because it reminded me of when I was a kid. That used to be my favorite snack when my mom would let me have it. And then also, my husband had a fried piece of pecan pie with ice cream and whipped cream. So even if the pie was terrible, it was still fried with ice cream and whipped cream. We worked out on Saturday in 96% humidity and 90 degree temps so that we could eat the fair food. And it was worth it. But not better than the pot-bellied pig race.
I use that term loosely. It's after hours on a Monday here on the Infinity Sports Network. And we're working our way through some of the biggest stories in sports, of course.
I kind of feel like it was the perfect formula, as in the perfect formula for this WNBA phenomenon that is Kaitlyn Clark. And for a brand new viewership record. What do you want to bet? I would bet you a pig, but I don't actually own any.
I am willing to bet there'll be another record of some sort set once the viewership numbers come out for Sunday's game in Chicago. Because here's the deal. Really no other games. You had the golf tournament going on.
Scottie Scheffler, the protesters, we'll get to that. He wins in the first playoff hole. That was done before the game was over. You had the College World Series.
They were kind of going simultaneously. So we, in our house, were going back and forth between hoops and game two of the College World Series. Tennessee forced a game three.
But for the WNBA, really this was the perfect Sunday showcase. There's a sold-out crowd in Chicago, not the United Center. They kept it at a smaller venue. It was louder.
Also allowed them to charge, listen to this, an average ticket price. $358. Now I've seen some other reports of $351 regardless. It was over $350. That's the point.
$350. Would you rather take your daughter to see Kaitlyn Clark and Angel Reese play or take her to a Taylor Swift concert? Because right now the tickets are about the same. That's crazy. I hope your daughter isn't a Swiftie and a Kaitlyn Clark fan. One day she wears her Taylor Swift gear and the next day she wears a Kaitlyn Clark jersey like Adam Levine who apparently did a show. Where was he, Jay, doing the show?
Oh, that I'm not sure. It was Saturday night he was doing a show. He was doing a show on Saturday night wearing his Kaitlyn Clark jersey and told the audience these were extremely hard to find. It took him forever to get his hands on one.
My family knows because my mom's husband had to wait weeks to get her one. She wears it for every game, including Sunday. So a sold out crowd, a national TV audience, a tight finish, a back and forth affair. It's a wild swings where the Fever had the 15 point lead in the third quarter only to see Angel Reese dominate the fourth in front of the Chi-Town fans. Record performances by both those dynamic rookies and you've got the third chapter in their pro rivalry.
But remember they've got two very high profile games from college. So now we've seen five games where Angel Reese and Kaitlyn Clark are playing at their best on the same court and it's terrific. It's a terrific combo. We had an opportunity to catch up with one of the beat reporters who was there in Chicago and he joined us to talk about the atmosphere. It was great.
So I hope that you'll check out that conversation on our podcast once we're done here on Monday morning. But yes, once Angel Reese started dominating in the fourth quarter, there was really no answer for her, certainly not Nalissa Smith, who had made the gesture about how she was too small earlier in the game. May have been a bit of motivation for the former LSU star, but a career high 25 points, 16 rebounds in her 36 minutes of play. And yeah, none of the Fever had any answers about how to contain her when their lead was slipping away. I thought she ran really well in transition.
I think she got a couple and ones in transition. Obviously, she played a really great game. I think they definitely knew to be physical with us. I think they probably watched the dream film and saw that we fouled them nonstop. And in Atlanta, we were able to get away with that. And obviously tonight, putting them at the foul line 32 times, we put Atlanta at the foul line 35 times. Like teams like this, you're not going to get away with that.
It's not going to work usually like that. It was impressive that we went to Atlanta with how much we fouled. And all the times giving up and ones, like Angel had quite a few and ones there in the fourth. But I thought she played a really great game. Of course, it's good for the game, good for women's basketball, but also good for women's sports. You see NBA players, rappers, legends that played in the league for a great long time come out and show support. So, you know, everybody's watching right now.
I think this is one of the most important times right now. We just continue to keep putting on. I think both teams tonight did an amazing job putting on a show. And it was fun. I had a great time. I'm sure the other team had a great time.
So I'm just happy we won tonight. As for Kaitlyn, she dazzled more with the passing. I mean, she had a couple of deep threes, including one that would have been a logo three had there been a logo there. The other thing notable about Kaitlyn is that she played all 40 minutes.
She did not take a break. She was the only one for either team who played all 40 minutes, though Reese did play 36. But, yeah, she had five threes.
So she was five of nine from beyond the arc. She had 13 assists, which is not just a career high for her, but a franchise record for the Indiana Fever, as well as six rebounds. But they did struggle down the stretch. And they had that 15 point lead, but they blew it. And Angel Reese, this guy ended up stealing this one by a single point. Just seemed like the ball got really stuck.
I don't know. We didn't move it side to side like we had for three quarters, which were we were really good. Yeah, I mean, I just felt like we didn't execute. It just felt like we kind of let them take them when they went on a little run. We could never find a way to respond. And, you know, that's what happens in basketball runs.
So you got to find a way to always respond. And I don't think we executed any sort of set. Chicago turned up the heat on us.
Give them credit. They did a great job of getting really physical with us. And we just didn't match that. And we let their physicality just kind of disrupt us. That's on me.
I've got to have us better prepared for that. Christy Sides had quite a different volume to her voice early in the game when she was mic'd up and was doing the interview on ESPN. I thought, wow, there's her voice. And then by the end of the game, it was going again. So, yeah, up 15 late in the third quarter and they ended up scoring only 15 points in the fourth quarter. So you hear Kaitlyn Clark talk about how the ball got stagnant and, yeah, a lot of free throws for the Chicago Sky, but mostly a lot of angel reasons.
She had one message to her team. I think sometimes we get comfortable. A lot of times we get comfortable. We had a good lead for a little minute and then we got comfortable and just I felt like we didn't have that much energy. So just staying poised, not letting ourselves get down. I think I did a great job being able to bring energy if it was defensively or offensively rebounding steals, doing whatever to be vocal and help the team. I think my teammates really rely on my energy and being able to be super positive for them. So I just try to always give that every night.
That they do. And she's talking on the court. She's talking when she's on the bench. She's big into the talking and it's part of the game for, gosh, Draymond Green.
Think of some others. Larry Bird was a nonstop trash talker. Kobe Bryant, he was chattering the whole game whenever he played. So a lot of the best at their sport not only are trying to beat you with their physical skills, their talents and abilities, but it's also a mind game. How often do we see athletes try to get under the skin?
Gosh, I could name a bunch of cornerbacks that would try to do the same thing. They're trying to get under your skin with the chatter. And sometimes it boils over and it becomes trash talk that can lead to extracurricular activity.
But in this case, I like the fact that it was spicy, it was intense, there was a sense of urgency. You got really the perfect formula for the WNBA to be showcased on Sunday, not to mention the two rookies. And right now you've got these two among the top vote getters for WNBA All-Star game, which is still ahead. It is sort of ironic that the All-Stars will be facing the Olympic team. So you know, the team that Kaitlyn didn't make, Angel Reese didn't make, they will be facing that team at the All-Star weekend more than likely, if they end up starters specifically. And I'm still getting reaction to my conversation with Jennifer Rizzotti, who is the USA selection committee chair.
If you missed it, I shared it again on Sunday on both Twix and Facebook. And we'll answer some of your questions. For instance, Producer J, I shared the interview and saw a comment that went along these lines. Why didn't they select Kaitlyn for the 3x3 team when Cameron Brink got injured?
Seems like she would be the perfect fit. Well, you know what? That's a great question. One that Jennifer Rizzotti answered.
So had you listened to the interview, you would know the answer to that question. My mom actually listened to it and she said to me, wow, I didn't realize 3x3 was so complicated and had so many layers to it. Yeah, it's not what you think.
It's not just go out there and play 3 on 3. There are some very specific rules and reasons why neither Angel Reese nor Kaitlyn Clark can be on the 3x3 team. The answers are all in there. They're all in there. Jennifer was really candid with the answer. So if you're still interested, it's up on both of our social media sites.
Our phone number 855-212-4227. Mike is in South Carolina. Mike, what do you think? Hey, Amy, how you doing?
I'm good. Glad you had a good time in New Hampshire. No, I wasn't in New Hampshire.
Oh, my bad. I grew up in New Hampshire. Okay, I got nephews up there. I'm driving back in about a week. I'll go back to the old hood, Long Island.
And, you know, I get a kick out of... I can't watch the NBA anymore. I'm not interested in the draft. And J.J. Riddick is going to coach the Lakers. And LeBron James, thanks for no thanks.
The words that came out of his mouth the last couple of years. Now, now, you know, Kaitlyn Clark, you know, you played basketball. You played at a high level. Not that high. Okay, okay.
And I even said last week, my son, I'm going to visit him, he's 29. He went to SUNY, Cortland, wide receiver, okay? Now, here's the deal. I call it thuggery on the hardwood. There's got to be fines imposed. There is no thuggery.
What are you talking about? There was thuggery against Kaitlyn? No, there's no thuggery. Well, that's my expression. That's my expression, you know? So, yeah. So, anyway, my Mets got the mojo, and I don't know, Amy, you know, when Willie Mays passed away, after the 1973 Night Game World Series, I walked through the player's parking lot.
I see a pink Cadillac, black rag top, California plate, say hey. I shook Willie's hand. Wait, hold on. I feel like you told us this story, didn't you? I wasn't sure if you knew about this story. I'm sorry.
Yes, no, I'm pretty sure last week you told us the story. Okay, okay, listen. Listen, you have a good day. Okay, you have a good day.
All right. He started into that story, and Jane and I looked at each other. Wait a minute, we know the ending to this story. I think I've heard this. It was a good story the first time. I have no idea whether or not our friend Mike, our frequent flyer Mike, is older, but sometimes my Grammy Helen, she would tell the same story multiple times in a day because she'd forgotten that she'd told it.
Do you think that was the case? I don't know. We had like a weekend in there, so it's been a minute.
He's driving. He thinks I went to New Hampshire this weekend. All right.
I mean, my general rule of thumb is if you would like to call up and embarrass yourself on national radio, well, that's okay. No, we're just teasing. But yes, we'd already heard that story, and I have no idea how we got from Kaitlyn Clark to the Mets, but somehow. Yeah, somehow. If you have not seen the pig races, I'm telling you they're better than anything I have to say. All right. That means now you're going to go check it out, right, instead of listening to me.
Maybe you can't while you're driving. Just make sure that whenever you have an opportunity, you find us on Twix at ALaw Radio or Facebook page because the pot-bellied pigs will make your day. I find that people enjoy the show. I'm glad we like to entertain you as best we can. No, nothing is as entertaining as pot-bellied pigs racing.
I've determined I might need to retire and get some pot-bellied pigs and take them to state fairs. Little kids and adults alike were jumping up and down. All right. That ruined it. That's what sound they made. Well, not while they're racing, quote, unquote, racing. Well, if they're really getting into it, then they're going to make the noises. Hey, you watched the pot-bellied pigs. You don't think they were really into it? They were a little into it.
It was so great. They went to the trees at the end. She kept building it up.
The woman who owned the pigs in the exhibit kept building it up. Oh, wait. Is this all leading us to the heavies? The heavies. The heavies, they call them? And one of them was named Tyrone the Heavy. That makes it a lot better. Yeah, so terrific. They all had names.
They all had a rooting section. And you will see at one point in the video, the guy who's, you know, there's a cliffhanger ending. Oh, it's a photo finish, if you will. It's a photo finish with the pot-bellied pigs. And so with the photo finish and the outcome hanging in the balance, he's standing up in front of me, cheering, rooting on his pig. Do people follow this tour? No, she just picked people out of the crowd and said, okay, you're responsible for pig number five.
You're responsible for... It was amazing. And most of them were kids, but there were some adults who were determined.
I would have hoped I got chosen, to be honest. It was amazing. So check it out. It's literally one of the funniest animal videos I've ever seen.
And generally, I'm the one laughing at everyone else's funny animal videos. You just have to wait for the ending of the pot-bellied pigs. That's online. In the meantime, I have a really cool story to share with you. If you didn't see the ending to the Women's PGA Championship on Sunday, and also the ending to the 72nd hole before they went to the playoff, well, Scottie Scheffler up close and personal with law enforcement again. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. You are listening to the After Hours Podcast. Scottie Scheffler comes out of the chaos in Connecticut with another tournament title.
This is After Hours with Amy Lawrence. Our friend Jim Nantz on CBS, goodness, there's so much that he doesn't say in that very short clip, but golf play-by-play on TV is not one of those that translates well to radio. So Jim Nantz at the helm also had to navigate a protest on the 72nd hole, so 18th green, as Scottie Scheffler is lining up a putt on what would be his final hole, there's a bunch of guys, I think a half dozen, six different protesters who come out and lay down after running around. They're setting off that, is it gas? Is it a fog? I have no, is it powder?
It's all this colored powder or a fog. We've seen it before at other sporting events. It's happened all over the world and multiple times here in the United States. It does not matter what they're protesting. I wouldn't give it publicity anyway, but do you know what else? I am confident that the majority of these protests, all they are is a blip on the radar.
They don't actually do anything. Do you think there are, I don't know, a hundred thousand Americans who are waking up on this Monday morning thinking, you know what? After those protesters ran onto the 18th green in Cromwell, Connecticut at the Travelers, maybe, just maybe, I'll care more about their cause.
No, you should see some of the videos and hear some of the videos. Now this is in New England accent, which is tremendous because the tournament is taking place in New England and what you're getting, the words that we can't use are bleeped out. What you're getting are people ticked off.
These protesters are using the golf tournament and the golfers as a way to try to interrupt and get their message across. Selling a little or a lot. Shopify helps you do your thing, however you cha-ching. Shopify is the global commerce platform that helps you sell at every stage of your business.

Was it worth it to run out there, get your two seconds, not get showed on TV other than your crazy colored fog, and then you get tackled and thrown into handcuffs and hauled off to jail. Now that video is mild compared to some of them. Oh my goodness. If you search protest travelers, 72nd hole, whatever, you'll see some other videos that are unedited and in all of their glory feature, some choice words that we don't use on family programs.
It's after hours with Amy Lord. So yeah, Scotty Scheffler had to wait along with his playing partner as they were hauling off these protesters. And once again, he's surrounded by police. It was definitely a bit weird. You know, I saw one person out of the corner of my eye and then I saw about five police officers sprinting around and from my point of view, they got it taken care of pretty dang fast.
And so we were very grateful for that. It seemed to go by really quickly to us, but when something like that happens, you don't really know what's happening. So it can kind of rattle you a little bit just because there's people running around the green and there's police officers running around the green and you don't know if they're peaceful. You don't know what they're doing.
You have no idea what's going on. And so it can be a bit stressful, but fortunately I was out there and you could kind of see me and Akshay talking to each other for a minute, me and Tom talking to each other for a minute, just basically trying to calm down. You know, that can be a stressful situation and you would hate for the tournament to end on something weird happening because of a situation like that. And so I felt like Tom and I both tried to calm each other down so we could give it our best shot there on 18. So he's talking about his playing partner there, not the Tom who ended up birdying his 18th hole and forcing a playoff with Scheffler one on the first hole. But yeah, a situation where you just got to wait and wait till they get under control. But I can imagine, I've seen the video, it really does turn into mass chaos.
You have no idea what's going on. We didn't play this part of his response, but in talking about the protests and the law enforcement and what was happening on the 18th green, he did throw some shade at the Louisville detective who arrested him. If you remember, his name was Detective Gillis. And I know all of the charges have been dropped, but Gillis is the one who said he got dragged by Scheffler in the car and had to go to the hospital and his clothes were damaged beyond repair. So at some point when Scottie was answering questions on Sunday, he said, maybe Detective Gillis can take notes. I feel like that's the most trash talk you'll get from Scottie Scheffler. By the way, kind of a neat twist or I guess a connection.
The one who finished second in the playoff, his name was Tom Kim. He and Scottie share a birthday, so they're friends. They also share a birthday and get this, it was just Friday. So they celebrate their birthdays at the Travelers Championship. They end up together in a playoff on Sunday, which is kind of neat. So sixth victory of the year for Scheffler and that's the most in a season before July.
Okay, think about it. First of all, he's 28 years old, just turned 28. Second of all, he's not even halfway through the season. First time that we've seen anyone win six times before July since Arnold Palmer, going back to 1962, my grandmother's favorite golfer. So yeah, this is kind of a big deal to be able to come off of what was a disappointing U.S. Open and get right back to winning.
It's pretty special. You know, it's been a great season, you know, I've been fortunate to come away with some wins and it's been a lot of fun. You know, Tom played his heart out today, you know, he's a great player, great champion. It was fun battling with him today. He had his little baby son with him, six weeks old and he was there and it was kind of neat to see him cradling his baby and answer questions about it, got choked up when he was talking about what it means to be a dad now and continue with the PTA tour. So neat for Scotty, what a season, a season for the ages and we still have a long way to go. He's the guy to beat right now. If you're thinking about the old question of Tiger versus the field, that might not be a bad bet when it comes to Scotty Scheffler and that methodical way that he goes about breaking down a golf course.
It's after hours with Amy Lawrence. It's expected these days that Scotty Scheffler would win. That doesn't necessarily surprise anyone.
It's not one of those stories. I don't want to say it doesn't make you feel good because of course it does, but every now and then we get these incredible feel good stories in sports that I just love to share and they remind me so much that regardless of what stats or formulas or analytics you might have, there's no way you can ever perfectly either predict or capture the heart of a human. You have no idea when professional athletes are going to come away with the performance of a lifetime and in many cases it's so unexpected that it provides just a perfect story. One of those stories took place over the past few days, a lot more attention on Scotty Scheffler and the Traveler's Championship, but at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. So it is a major, it's the women's PGA essentially. A woman named Amy Yang captured her first ever major at the age of 34 years old. She's the oldest major winner on the LPGA Tour since Angela Stanford back in 2018 and that was a 40 year old, so pretty incredible.
But think about what Amy Yang has been through. I'm going to give you some of her near misses. It was her 75th major, right, so she has tried a lot and failed and in addition to that she has come up short, so close, nine times.
Yang has finished second, third or fourth in a major, nine times, but had never captured the title until now. She was so far ahead of the field, in fact the golf channel is on in my studio and as she's going through her final round, she's got a five stroke lead, five plus in some cases, but as she's getting closer to winning her final major and here's where the human element comes in, she makes five bogeys over her first 69 holes, but then three putts on the 16th. She's getting so close, right, she's near perfect over her first three days, three and a half days on the golf course. She builds this big lead and then as often happens, you start to think about it, you start to get nervous, right, the anxiety kicks in a little bit, so as she gets to the final few holes, she three putts her 16th, then her drive on the 17th goes well right, bounces into a lake, she gets a double bogey on the 17th, thankfully on the 18th she's able to kind of get her emotions back in check and it's a par and she gets to celebrate with the champagne and the jump into the lake and all that jazz, but yeah, she had built herself such a cushion that she didn't have to worry about it, but no doubt at 34 years old, how many times she had tried and come up short and of course had to wonder what this would feel like if the day would ever come.
All the hard work we, our team did together and I'm so grateful for that and I, you know, all four rounds, it wasn't tough out there, but I just trusted how I, what I prepared and just, I did my best all week. I always wanted to win a major and I came close, you know, several times and I started doubting myself if I ever gonna win a major before I retire because I've been on tour quite a while and you know, I am so grateful and very, very like happy to win a major. Congratulations to 34 year old Amy Yang, she's from South Korea by the way, you of course will remember Rory's just meltdown, not that a lot of other golfers wouldn't have lipped out two putts in the final, three holes, those were really difficult putts, we heard other golfers talking about how difficult those two putts that Rory missed and yet nothing is gonna make him feel better until he wins another major, right, until he gets another shot at it.
I mean, he was broken hearted. Well Amy Yang, twice in her career has had the 54 hole lead at a major only to fall short and she's had some, you know, some of those kind of epic blow up rounds, she, and I don't remember this but I do remember US, the US Open where Michelle Wee won, this is going back a decade now, well she ended up beating Amy Yang because Amy had a blow up final round and lost as Michelle Wee went on and such a big deal was made of her. A year later she also had a three stroke lead at a major and wasn't able to close it out, so imagine those failures and how painful and even when you are the most mentally tough and even when you are at peace with yourself, to come that close to your dream and not realize it, but all that hard work and you can hear the emotion in her voice on NBC Sports so I love this story, I love this story. 34 years old, a first time major winner in her 75th start, she finally is able to come through and if you haven't seen the celebration, it's pretty sweet, I mean the emotion, I've talked about it many times before on the show, like Alex Ovechkin, all the relief and the release when he finally won the Stanley Cup, right, Al Horford at 38 years old just became an NBA champion for the first time, these are the stories that I love about sports, yeah, championships and champions come and go but the ones that require suffering and sacrifice and the stories that give us this sweet redemption, that's what I live for, I love those and here we are, speaking of that, on the cusp of another championship story, will it be the Florida Panthers who are hosting game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday, after building a 3-0 lead, remember they lost last year to the Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final, they had a 3-0 lead, three chances they've squandered to close out the Edmonton Oilers or will it be the Oilers who haven't won a cup since 90, right, was it 90, but the nation of Canada with its hopes riding on this game 7 and the Oilers are locked in right now, they are playing the brand of hockey that took them from worst, as in worst in the entire NHL, to now one win away from a Stanley Cup Final and of course they'd be making history, so we'll get a bit of a preview of that game 7 plus you've got another championship on the line Monday, it's after hours with Amy Lawrence, pig races, actually just one race, you only need one race, it's the pot-bellied pigs that will entertain you for hours, on my account, on Twix, at ALawRadio or on our Facebook page, I do love that already a bunch of you are sending me your crying so hard, your laughing emojis, yes, that's what I'm saying, if your day sounds like, we need the report ASAP, you deserve Madella, if you've persevered through, you deserve this rich golden lager with a crisp and refreshing taste, or if you overcame, you deserve this ice cold reward, Madella, the mark of the fight, drink responsibly, you're imported by Crime and Port Chicago, imagine the softest sheets you've ever felt, now imagine them getting even softer over time, that's what you'll feel with Bullenbranches best selling signature sheets in 100% organic cotton, in a recent customer survey, 96% replied that Bullenbranches sheets get softer with every wash, start getting your best night's sleep in sheets that get softer and softer for years to come, try their sheets with 30 night guarantee plus get 15% off your first order at Bullenbranch.com code Odyssey, exclusions apply, see site for details.

This is After Hours with Amy Lawrence. Our friend Jack Michaels who will be there in sunrise Florida as the play-by-play voice of the Edmonton Oilers attempting to do the impossible, the unthinkable, not that it's never been done before but it is extremely rare and hockey is the only sport where we've seen a team rally from an 0-3 deficit in a championship round to come back and earn the trophy but here are the Oilers on the cusp and honestly the way they've played the last few games, this is the best that you've seen them, I mean this is what the Oilers are capable of, they're going great gangbusters now, we've seen that power play click in, the Panthers, they've got an identity, they've got a formula but the Oilers have used, it's almost like AI, not but the idea of AI is that it learns, it grows, it adjusts, it changes, it gathers information and it processes it and it spits out something even better and as I was thinking about the Oilers and how they've adjusted and how they have found their stride in this series, a lot of it has to do with Conor McDavid and breaking through, a lot of it has to do with the power play but yeah you've got an incredible game seven set up, the Panthers and the Oilers for all of Lord Stanley's Cup and then some and this is what I saw from Jack on Twix eight hours ago or so, this is phenomenal when you consider the big picture for the Oilers, exactly nine months after their preseason opener and seven months after waking up on Thanksgiving, 10 points out of a playoff spot, the Oilers are headed to a game seven, the road team has won the last three game sevens in the Stanley Cup final. I remember very distinctly and clearly St. Louis Blues over the Boston Bruins, what was that three years ago, two years ago?
Also another team that was in I think last place in January. Yeah, they went from worst to first, absolutely worst of the Stanley Cup final and that's the same thing that happened with the Edmonton Oilers, they were the worst record in the NHL going back to the fall, amazing right? And now if you think about what they've done just in the last three games alone to erase the 03 deficit, they've scored 18 goals, 18 goals and even though now Jay and I might disagree on this a little bit, I think he feels more strongly about Stuart Skinner but I think there are people out there that would call him the weak link on the Oilers when you consider the rest of the team right? Not Sergei Bobrovsky who let's be fair was 0-8 in Stanley Cup final games coming into this series but then had the shutout in the opener and had played extremely well. You've heard some of the guys talk about probably that this is not on Bob, it's really about the defense in front of them, it's about some of the giveaways, it's about the penalty kill, it's a lot of different things.
I don't know, to me it feels like all the pressure has shifted. Now granted winner take all, they're even-steven in terms of the standings but think about what the Oilers have done so I kind of feel like the Oilers have the mental edge but according to Paul Maurice, yeah those last three games, their eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, they're gone. I'm not concerned about the past at all, George, our plan is set, started last night after the game, met this morning, did video, do the same tomorrow, get ready to play. I know it's 3-3 so the concern of the previous three games certainly didn't affect Edmonton and it won't affect us.
I think the talks with Leeds in series, whether it's 3-0, 3-1, 3-2, whatever it is, it's a lot of noise coming from everybody but us. It doesn't matter if we're up 1-0 in the series, if it was even before game one, we're going in there with the same mindset. So that's Matthew Kuchuk who obviously sets the tone for his Panthers as well and Paul Maurice before that and I get it, that's the truth. Those three games don't carry over, it's not like they've got goals that they can use in game number seven, no, it's just the mental part of this has got to be jarring. You had the 3-0 lead, you haven't been able to crack this nut now for the last three games even though you're even, yes, that's true and it doesn't matter if you end up winning in game seven but oh my gosh, that's the thing, wow, is this potentially about to happen.
As for Connor McDavid, he's on fire lately and game seven for the Edmonton Oilers, the greatest player on the planet, I don't know what else you could ask for for your Monday night. I think we've worked hard to put ourselves in this position and it's a great opportunity for our group and we're looking forward to it. I think players have had their backs up against the wall since November, it's a couple of playoff series and definitely the last three or four games here but our goal is here to win our last game of the season. That to me gives the Oilers an edge, first of all, they weren't even supposed to be here. Not that that changes, I mean you are here and you're feeling that pressure but they're so comfortable in this space because they were dead last, they were ten points out of a playoff spot and they were playing with house money once they got into the playoffs. Now, they are the hope of Canada, which means a lot, I mean that's the part that will get me tense, I'll be feeling it from both sides. First for the Panthers because this would be an epic collapse. I mean two years in a row but in this particular season you had everything going for you and you squandered it. We never have this chance again so that's one thing but also just Canadians and this is their sport, they like to claim it and Lord Stanley's Cup, he resides in Toronto and all those things. So yeah, there's going to be a lot of pressure, game 7, same time that we will have a third and deciding game in the College World Series finals.
So Tennessee rallied past Texas A&M yesterday afternoon, Tennessee trying to become the first number one seed, number one national seed to win the championship going back to 1999, Texas A&M has never won a College Baseball World Series. So looking forward to two champions that we will have crowned tonight on a Monday but mostly pig races at ALaw Radio and on our Facebook page, enjoy, it's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. Boom!
