Kaitlyn Clark's WNBA career is gaining momentum, while Dan Hurley decides to stay at UConn after considering the Lakers' offer. Meanwhile, Trevor Lawrence signs a massive contract extension with the Jaguars, making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. Coming up this weekend, you've got what could be the clinching games in both hoops and hockey. Not if the Mavericks or the Oilers have anything to say about it. But we could end up with sweeps.

Neither of these series could have to travel twice. These teams are up 3-0. And basketball returns on Friday night. We won't even be here.

It's kind of funny, actually. Sean Grandy, who's the play-by-play voice of the Celtics Radio Network, reached out to me and said, hey, I can't promise I'll be available on Friday. If you want me on the show, you know, tonight would be good.

Now, we were already talking to Chuck Cooperstein last night because we weren't sure how many more nights we'd have Dallas around. And so he said, hey, I'll be I could or I'm not sure what I'm doing Friday. I'm not even here Friday. So if the Celtics close out the series on Friday, well, we're going to miss it.

Oops. And then same thing on Saturday. If the Stanley Cup final wraps up in Edmonton on Saturday night, guess who won't be here to talk about it?

This would be the first time, the first time in my 12 years of covering Stanley Cup final and NBA finals that I've ever seen. I've missed both of them on a weekend, not because I'm taking time off, but because it's a weekend. And game five of the NBA finals, just so you know, would be Monday. It's not Sunday. It's actually Monday. So it's not Father's Day.

It's on Monday, which is a holiday. And so we would be back on Monday night. But if they wrap up in a sweep, maybe I'll post a clover on Twitter.

Of course, with Amy Lawrence, yes, we talked a little bit of the Stanley Cup final. This Panthers team, you can know what they plan to do. You can know their M.O.

and their identity. That's one thing. You can even figure it out to the point where you generate more shots like they did in game, I guess it was game one where they had a bunch of extra shots. And then in game four, too, they were able to generate shots. Just that's when Sergei Barofsky has been brilliant.

He's a brilliant Bob in most of the games. As for the Celtics and Mavericks, we'll give you a bit of a preview and let you know what they're saying heading into game number four in Dallas. But yeah, how would you feel if both of these series end up in sweeps? Jay, I feel so badly. I sort of had to deliver some harsh reality to a listener who responded on Twix.

Mike responded to our question. How would you feel if both these series end up in sweeps? Good. Then it's just baseball. Oh, well, even if we take tennis and golf and WNBA out of the equation, we'll just assume that he doesn't care about those things. Have you heard of football?

It never goes away. We don't always agree. So I responded, nah, there's always football.

Training camps are just five weeks out. Arguably, football takes the center stage. Arguably. I was being nice.

He was being generous. I'm a baseball fan, so I love baseball, but I can't argue it. Right, there's really no debate. Football takes the cake, and we're going to get to some football here coming up.

Joseph says he hates it. Hates the idea that we could have both of these series, the ultimate championship series, last of hoops in hockey until October. We could have both of them end up in sweeps, and then we'll check out your post on Facebook after hours with Amy Lawrence. We will have Kaitlyn Clark and the Indiana Fever in their quest for a fourth win on, is it fourth or fifth? See, fourth. Yes, fourth win. Always go with your first answer.

Always go with your gut when you're taking SATs or ACTs. Pursuing their fourth win on Thursday evening, my mom's husband, Jay, this is so funny, Mike bought mom a Kaitlyn Clark Indiana Fever jersey. And the idea is, now mom's retired, and even though it's summertime and she wouldn't be teaching now anyway, she's still feeling a little uncertain. This is new territory for her. I know your mom's been in the same boat where she retired and then she decided that wasn't for her.

Yeah, so my mom taught for 42 years, and if you didn't read my latest blog post, she's now retired from teaching officially and isn't quite sure what's next. Well, thank goodness for the Indiana Fever, and thank the Lord for Kaitlyn Clark because that is my mom's new passion right now. She does not miss one minute, she hasn't missed any of Kaitlyn Clark's games going back to probably middle of the Iowa season, but she now watches every, she knows the Fever schedule when I don't. She's got Fever Fever. She's got Fever Fever. And she's got a Fever Fever jersey with the number 2, 2, 2, Kaitlyn Clark on it.

So, about an hour and a half after the game is over, and it kind of went down to the wire, Fever ended up with a 10-2 run to pull away at the last, well, last couple of minutes. From the dream, the Atlanta dream, mom's still wearing the jersey, so she's standing in the kitchen and Mike sends me a picture. The number of pictures I have on my phone that Mike has sent me of mom wearing her jersey, he's so proud. First of all, he's so proud that he surprised her with it. Second of all, he's so proud that she's wearing it. And my mom's so proud to sport it while she's watching games.

My mom has become a total Fever Fever shill. She wears her jersey. She's got her Fever game ritual now. She does. She puts on her jersey for every game. Jersey on at the same exact time.

Dinner at the exact time on game night. I love it. I am so glad that my mom is so into it. Because she, to be perfectly honest, she barely knows what I do for a living. No, that's not true. But she barely knows what I talk about.

I've used this before as a gauge. If my mom knows about something that's happening in sports, that means it's transcended the sports world and it's mainstream. If mom knows, same thing with your mom, if mom knows, well then it's big. Not only does mom know, she doesn't miss a game and she wears her jersey. How cute is my mom? She's locked in. And I am confident she's not the only one.

That's the part that's so amazing. Now, Kaitlyn is still figuring it out. What did the Olympic Committee Chair Jen Rizzotti say? Didn't have enough experience.

That's kind of the idea. We were looking for people in Paris on the women's team that have more experience. She is considered to be a first alternate. So this was the first game for Kaitlyn Clark since after the selection committee, brouhaha. I don't think that's affecting her.

She has continually asked about what people are saying and how it affects her and just kind of this firestorm where everything that happens around her, to her, near her, turns into a big story. It's not something I can control, so I don't put too much thought and time into thinking about things like that. To be honest, I don't see a lot of it. Like I've said, basketball is my job.

Everything on the outside, I can't control that, so I'm not going to spend time thinking about that. People can talk about what they want to talk about, create conversations about whatever it is, but I think for myself, I'm just here to play basketball. I'm here to have fun. I'm trying to help our team win.

My focus is on helping us do that, but I don't pay much mind to all of that, to be honest. I can imagine it gets tiresome, if not flat out weary, the fact that she's constantly answering questions. Maybe it dies down a little bit.

I don't think this season, especially because she has scuffled, she's had some pretty rough shooting nights, not something that we are used to seeing with Kaitlyn the last couple years at Iowa. But keeping in mind, everything around her has changed. Uh oh, I have to sneeze. Well, it's because we did yard work today, and so toward the end of the couple hours of being outside, even though I took some Claritin, I was sneezing away.

Seezing away out there with my broom and my lawnmower. Anyway, she's working with new teammates. In fact, a lot of them are working with new people. And so there's that that's completely new to her. It's a new system. It's a new coach. It's a new coaching staff. It's a new schedule.

And she mentions basketball is her job. And then I'm sure I'm not the only one who notices. Every single time you open up, say, a new web browser, if you're one of those people that has stories that pop up on your web browser, whether it's your phone, I happen to use Google Chrome most of the time, which is weird because then what I look for here on the work laptop shows up on my phone. How does it know it's me?

That's what I want to know. How does the computer here at work know it's me? Do you log in like with no mail or anything? I log into Twix and Facebook. Do you think it's that? That would be that would be cross contamination, right?

Yeah, exactly the way I would have said it. So I don't log. I'm not logged into email on this computer, but I am logged into the two social media.

And yet somehow what I search for here on Google, if I open up a Google Chrome window and I search, it appears on my phone when I get home. That is weird. Yeah, that shouldn't translate through the social media apps. They're not related. Oh, no, I think I'm telling you they're sharing. We know Facebook is selling our information to the Chinese. So anyway, I digress. That's not really the point.

The point is I open up a window, a browser window, and this is actually Microsoft Edge as well as Google. Based on your algorithm of what you read, they send you more stories that they think you'll be interested in. Now, a lot of it's trash. It's such clickbait these days, but I'm not kidding. Every third story or every third photo is Kaitlyn Clark. Granted, I read a lot about her and the WNBA and obviously going back to the Iowa days, I was reading the stories. And so that's what I'm getting. But there are a plethora of stories out there.

It's nonstop. So I'm glad that she's somewhat isolated in her WNBA bubble and doesn't read it. She's got enough on her plate. And as much as I think it would be terrific to see her at the Olympics, what an experience, even if she's an alternate and for the most part she's watching, I think she would get a lot out of it at 22 years old. Not to mention she said it's a dream.

They woke a monster by leaving her off the team. I honestly think those three weeks of being able to work on her own game and sleep, for heaven's sakes, sleep and visit her family. Have you guys ever been in a situation where you're either burnt out or you're burning a candle at both ends and just getting away from work, just being able to see family and friends and kind of let your guard down and exhale? That can be so healing and it can be so much of what you need.

It can be such a boost for your mental and your physical health just to get away from the work. And so she'll have three weeks when if she doesn't go to Paris and she's not practicing with the team, when she'll have maybe a few practices with the fever, but I don't think so. I think the WNBA completely shuts down for those three weeks.

And she said she looks forward to spending some time with family and friends and just getting away from it for a little bit. And it really has been nonstop since, gosh, the beginning of her college basketball season and the attention around her has only grown. So I'm thrilled for her that she's able to focus on hoops, but I can imagine as they take that break next month, it's going to do wonders for her. She's getting a ton of attention, obviously getting guarded by the best players on the other teams, still turning the ball over too much, but her team won.

After a slow start to the second half, they were able to finish strong. Aliyah Boston matches her career high with 27 points. Remember, she's a second year player.

She's the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, also at 13 rebounds. And she'd also scuffled a bit to start the season. I feel like I was very dominant that first half and the third quarter, not so much. And so the fourth quarter, I just tried to make it just put emphasis on it to just be dominant. That was great for us. We just said it that this was a great team win for us. We made adjustments at the end, Ryan just started knocking down threes.

And so we had to adjust and we were able to get some stops when it was really crucial for us. She was undeniable tonight. She I watched her warm up back in the back. I can watch them warm up and her warm up was different. She was more physical. I couldn't be more proud of her. I thought she played extremely well, really physical, didn't back down and finished great, great shots at the rim tonight. So good for Aliyah Boston.

That's awesome. Some of the assists between, well, from Kaitlyn Clark to Aliyah, some of the passes. It's been amazing to watch those two develop as teammates. They're only a month and a half into their careers together.

I hope that we get to see them continue to play together just because it's it's really neat to watch that chemistry build. So good for them. Getting another win. Some of the pressure off Christy Sides, the fans. I was actually listening to the game on radio because I did not have it on TV. So I was listening to it on Sirius XM and the fan electricity and excitement inside the fieldhouse was tremendous.

Sixteen thousand strong. And yes, Kaitlyn still figuring it out. But what we're finding now, this only applies to fever games.

If you haven't seen the numbers, would you believe my husband actually started this conversation with me on Thursday? He was saying that he saw this chart attendance at games that Kaitlyn Clark plays in versus attendance at other games. And yes, attendance is up across the board on average.

But the games in which the fever play, there is a major spike in attendance as well as TV viewership. And so she's growing and learning and getting used to new teammates. And she's going to have to obviously get stronger. I'm sure she's going to beef up a little bit. She's relatively slight. All of this is going to make her a better player.

Similar and I know I've used this comparison before. You guys remember when Steph Curry got into the league? He was tiny and he was getting roughed up. He was getting battered. He was getting bodied and bruised by bigger defenders. Sure, he had handles.

Yes, he could shoot. But the first couple of years of his NBA career, they were tough. He was injured a bunch. But once he figured it out, the speed, the strength, he got smarter, the savvy.

He and his teammates got used to each other and he bulked up. Yeah, he's been terrific, obviously. One of the best players we've ever seen. That's going to happen to Kaitlyn.

I am not in any way believing that she won't be a star at this next level. How many interceptions does Peyton Manning have his first year in the NFL? He owns the rookie record for interceptions.

Let me guess. I'm going to go with 24. 27. 24. 28. Oh, I was so close.

28! And to be honest, Kaitlyn Clark might finish her rookie year with more turnovers than any other player in the league. She's going to figure it out. She's too smart. She's too committed not to.

I know my moms wither all the way through. Let's talk to James, who's in Oregon. James, welcome to After Hours. Hey, thanks for taking my call, Amy. A longtime listener called you a while back, but I love your show on a quick break at work.

Awesome. What I'm calling about is everybody's talking about her not being on Kaitlyn Clark, not being on the Olympic team and all that type of stuff. People forget that when they made the dream team, they left out the most dominant center, Shaquille O'Neal, and took Christian Laitner. He came back with a vengeance.

And who had a better career? So people need to just jump off that. She's a brawler. She's an athlete. She's going to be fired up. So when they do put her on the squad, she'll do what she needs to do and she'll be her squad.

Or she'll be a part of the next squad. But people need to remember that not everybody, because you feel they should know, is going. Shaq should have went. But they took Christian Laitner. That's a good point.

I mean, he was absolutely motivated by that. She will be, too. She's already said that. And she's too good of a player and she's too smart of a player to not get better.

Right? I mean, she went from being an incredible shooter to leading the NCAA in assists her senior year, her last year at school. I mean, this is a player that we've seen develop over the course of time. And it's the same thing.

It's an adjustment. She's getting a lot of attention at the WNBA level. And as you point out, I mean, she got left off.

It was close. I understand the experience thing. There isn't a player under 26 on this team. They have such a deep pool to choose from. And I think they, because of who's making the selections, they went with more experienced players. They want to make sure they can extend their gold medal streak.

But yeah, she's going to have a long run on Team USA. I believe that to be true. But yeah, when people keep making these comparisons and are whining about this and that, talk to Shaq.

He'll tell you. I like it. He should have been that man, but he was not. And then they took Christian Laitner.

No politics, whatever. Back then it might have been a little bit of politics, but it was just you went with what you thought would work to help the team. And then you had Elijah won and you had Ewing.

So Shaq didn't fit in at that time. But when he came through, he dominated. So, yes, I appreciate you guys taking my call and love your show. Thank you for keeping me up at night and you be Morgan. All right. Good to talk to you, James. Thanks so much for the phone call.

Have a great weekend. Yeah, it's a good point. I like the positive and the forward look projecting out. Kaitlyn's already said they woke a monster. Kaitlyn's already indicated that this is going to be a motivation for her. You're not paying attention if you think she's just a shooter. She's no more just a shooter than Steph Curry was. But I'm telling you, these two, their career arcs are so similar and I like it. I can't wait to see how Kaitlyn ends up to on Twix at Amy after hours. How would you feel if both the hoops and the hockey finals ended in sweeps? I didn't see that coming. I wouldn't see that coming. And also on our Facebook page, our phone number 855-212-4227. Coming up, Dan Hurley tells you why he decided to go back to Yukon.

It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. Smart businesses are graduating to NetSuite by Oracle. AutoTrader. I happened to be at a thing with him. I just leaned over and I said, hey, I think you can win a lot of championships with the Lakers, more so than a guy who's never coached. And he just looked at me and nodded and we had a good laugh. And then this morning I wake up and voila.

So I don't know what's going on. And it'd be a bad day for UConn for sure if this happens. This is After Hours with Amy Lawrence. One of the funnier wrinkles to come out of the Lakers pursuit of UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley. We heard from Gino Auriemma, who himself just got a contract extension by the school. He was on with Dan Patrick and he was talking about a dinner that he and Hurley had sat together the night before. And how he joked that in the Lakers' search for a coach, hey, they should be looking at you. Wouldn't that be funny? And Hurley kind of laughs, knowing all along that that's exactly what was happening.

It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. We now know that Hurley decided to stay at UConn. He made that decision on Monday. The news broke on Monday after he met with the Lakers on Friday, flew to Southern California. And had what he said was a compelling vision and compelling plan presented to him by the Lakers for how they would integrate him and the future together. So that means the end of LeBron's career, wanting Anthony Davis to be part of it moving forward. There's been a lot of speculation about LeBron and his role in this. I even saw some reports about how it was text messages with LeBron James that convinced Dan Hurley to go back to UConn. I would say be kind of careful about what you believe.

There's all kinds of crazy stuff out there. But LeBron himself had indicated that this wasn't about him and shouldn't be about him. Again, you can choose to believe it if you want. But he had said, you know, my career is coming to an end pretty quickly. We know that he's considering maybe one more year, depending upon what happens with his son. He's about to hit free agency, though the Lakers really want to keep him. There's got to be a conversation there. So you would expect that Dan Hurley's contract would have kept him with L.A. longer than LeBron would have continued to play.

So there's that wrinkle as well. Ultimately, though, it sounds like it actually wasn't anything to do with the Lakers. It was more about UConn. And that's why he went back.

Again, this wasn't about L.A. as enticing as the offer. This was because of what Dan loves about Stores Connecticut, about the Huskies, about the program that they've built. And he also wants you to know the whole idea that he was doing this just to get leverage with UConn.

That's ridiculous. One of the worst takes I've ever heard is like this was a leverage play by me to improve my situation at UConn. Like I don't need leverage here.

We've won back to back national championships, you know, at this place. And like I'm not this was never a leverage situation for me. I've got a contract in place here, you know, for for a couple of weeks. And the financial part in terms of salary has been done for a while. There's some other parts like NIL and staff salaries and some different things that that I needed that I want adjusted that I'm not comfortable with. But the sense or the idea that this was some conspiracy to get me a sweeter deal at UConn is just it's lazy.

Marco Bolletti is here in studio. Would you care to respond? I am supposed to believe everything Dan Hurley says.

I don't know if I buy any of that. The whole thing just didn't make a lot of sense to me. And I do feel like it might have been Hurley trying to see if the Lakers would be a good spot for him to go to the NBA because I think he wants to do that eventually. And he realized it didn't work for him.

And that's fine. That's not necessarily leverage against UConn. That part of it I could see. But I just I'm confused as to why he wanted everyone to know about it and where it kind of came out of left field. Maybe he did it. Maybe it got leaked by someone else. Yeah. See, I struggle with that.

It got leaked before he even got on the plane. Oh, come on. That happens all the time. Yeah.

It happens all the time in our world. And he seemed pretty happy to talk about it the whole way through, including I'll make a decision soon. Don't worry.

It's weird. He didn't talk till after he was back from the interview. Either way, if you don't believe Hurley, I guess you're not going to believe anyone. But he did say this was truly a tough decision for him. It was truly like a gut wrenching decision for me because I was really Sunday night going into Monday where I had a kind of a deadline in my mind. I was like torn and I didn't know really what I was going to do until I went to bed. And I do appreciate that he stuck to what he told Adrian Wojnarowski on Sunday night. And we were talking about it when we were on the air that he was torn. He didn't know what he was going to do when he went to bed, but he decided that he would announce it on Monday and that he wouldn't require either side to wait any longer. And he even before explaining why, he decided to return to Yukon. And he's doing this, by the way, on the Dan Leboutard show.

I should make sure that I give credit there. Dan Leboutard's show initially was him about the leverage thing, that that was not the reason why he took this interview. But later in some of his other interviews and his comments to the press, he made it very clear that because it's the Lakers, because it's the NBA, because he comes from a coaching family, all these things, this was not easy.

The Lakers presented a package that was definitely enticing. You turn down the opportunity to lead one of the biggest sports franchises in the world. I think that, you know, that tells the story of what you think about where you are and what it means to you and your heart. I don't think there's many coaches that have ever been faced with coaching in two just iconic places and to have to make a decision between the two. Although it was an excruciating process because of the incredible opportunities, in the end, you know where your heart is. So there's one indication of why Yukon was able to keep Dan Hurley because he says you know where your heart is.

Well, ultimately, I thought his answer, this next cut is the one that, to me, told more of the story and explained more of his mindset than any other about why he chose to remain in stores. I didn't like the looks when I talked to them on Thursday to tell them I was going to consider it and go out there and take on the process. I didn't love the faces that looked at me.

There's images of things that will always be embedded in your mind than just sharing that initial news. You know, like, I didn't like the way they looked at me when I told them I was going to consider it and I've enjoyed their faces since Monday better. Dan Hurley saying, hey, this is not about leverage. I just won back-to-back national championships. I've already got a contract in place.

The financial piece is done. I would say very few coaches out there would have rebuffed the Lakers if they asked for an interview. I kind of feel like even if you aren't sure that's what you want to do, it's the Lakers, for heaven's sake.

So how do you turn that down? But either way, how much of a heart do you believe that Dan Hurley has after hearing that? That it was so hard to tell his staff and his players the faces that they, well, the facial expressions that they had when he told them he was interviewing and also appreciate that he was up front with them. How often do we hear a college coach commits to a team and then abruptly decides to leave and go somewhere else and his kids are blindsided? I've covered multiple situations like that in my career and so he was the one that told his players and his staff that he was considering this job and then he was honest with them.

I am going to do the interview. That's probably how it leaked to me. He wasn't keeping it under wraps. And maybe that's why, Marco, maybe he didn't want his players and staff to find out from somebody else. He wanted them to find out from him. It's kind of like Nick Saban, right?

He kept his retirement under wraps so tightly because he did not want his locker room to find out from anybody else. Look, all that might be fair and that all may be true. Like I said, the biggest thing for me was not the fact that they were flirting and talking. And it was the idea that when this first report came out, if the Lakers were targeting Dan Hurley and it was like, oh, wow, this is where they want to go. And then they offer him less money than Monty Williams makes.

It doesn't scream to me, we're dying to get Dan Hurley. How did you think he was going to take that offer? You didn't blow him away to try to get him out of Utah. So your issue was with the Lakers?

My issue was with both sides. Was it Hurley went to the Lakers and the Lakers were kind of lukewarm and then they were like, wow, you know what? He is a good coach.

Maybe this would work. No way. Something didn't smell right. The whole thing, like when this whole thing came out, it seemed like it would be a foregone conclusion or the Lakers were going to offer him this monster deal. And he's like, you know what? My heart brings me back to UConn after you offered me $110 million, which is what it sounds like the first report, we said more than $100 million. That I would understand.

The offer wasn't great and he went back. It was just weird. The whole thing is just weird to me.

I'm just taking it at face value. I mean, Dan Hurley is one of the hottest coaches in the country. The Lakers are looking for something different. They're obviously in kind of this weird stage where they're going to have to rebuild a little bit, depending on what happens with LeBron and they might end up, I mean, their offense has been, has been stagnant.

They're looking for something different. He's a great offensive mind and they brought him in and maybe, just maybe the Lakers didn't think they would have to offer him nearly as much because he's a brand new guy. He's not in the NBA.

I see that part I struggle with. I mean, if you're trying to get a two-time defending national champion and you're trying to lure him away from college, you would offer him a really good deal. Now, I'm not saying this is garbage money. It's not by any stretch, but you're talking about, what was it, sixth, seventh highest paid coach in the NBA?

That's weird to me. But you have no experience. I mean, I do. I mean, you're a head coach. I mean, I mean, their, their fallback is now going to probably be JJ Redick.

So like I struggle with the no experience part. And then again, Monty Williams makes more money than this. Monty Williams is 1-1. So to me, if you want to bring the guy there, you could have offered him a monster deal and they did. Now, I don't know why. Maybe they didn't like the interview. Maybe they didn't think they needed the money.

I don't know. But it just, it's, it's odd. The whole thing is odd to me. All right, Marco, and I do not see eye to eye on this.

I just kind of think it's Dan Hurley super hot. The Lakers don't know what they're doing. So this was an opportunity to feel it out and see if they could go that direction. The coming up, we're going to change the football. The Chiefs get, oh my goodness, glorious rings. So Patrick Mahomes go from, goes from courtside in Dallas for Game 3 of the NBA Finals to the ring ceremony in Kansas City on Thursday. And then Trevor Lawrence gets paid.

I think most of the mandatory OTAs are either done or will be done by tomorrow. So they're going to take off, of course, for Father's Day weekend. So one of the perks of there not being any football games right now is that these guys should have a Father's Day weekend. And it's a holiday weekend as well. Juneteenth observed on Monday. And so a lot of people are already hitting the roads. I'm sure I'm not the only one who hit nutty traffic on my way into the office tonight.

So we're glad to keep you company. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence, Jaguar's radio network. And Trevor Lawrence is making headlines on Thursday because he becomes the next man up in the NFL, if you will.

It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. Yeah, according to multiple sources out there, the Jags and Trevor have agreed to a brand new contract extension. Five years, two hundred seventy five million dollars. But if you unpack it a little bit of that two seventy five, two hundred million is guaranteed, fully guaranteed, which is cool. And just for signing. I wonder if he got to do it in person or if it was electronically. Do you know how annoying that is when you have to try to sign on a screen?

It's awful. The number of times that I erase and start over again or I clear it and start over again because it doesn't look anything like my signature, which I'm kind of proud of. A lot of people can't even sign cursive these days. I'm more of just a scribbler. Are you a scribble?

So you don't care. I have like my big J and then like a couple of scribbles and like a big B and then like a couple of scribbles. So the J and the B are consistent, but in between.

It's hard to do, though, with your finger or even a stylus on a computer screen. So I wonder if they allow him to sign on purpose or in person. Excuse me. But regardless, as soon as he's done, the same purpose is accomplished because one hundred and forty two million dollars fully guaranteed just for signing on the dotted line, which means no matter what happens from here on out, if he doesn't play another game for the for the Jaguars once this extension kicks in. So it doesn't start until twenty twenty six.

Right. So he signs and he gets the money, but it doesn't start until twenty twenty six. He gets one hundred and forty two million dollars. And there's a signing bonus that's built into it. Now he's under contract with the Jags until twenty thirty. Because he was still in his rookie deal. Remember, he was the number one overall pick, which means the Jaguars have the option of adding a fifth year. Of course, they're going to do that because it's cheaper to do that for a starting quarterback. But he is handsomely rewarded for the fact that the first five years of his career, he's relatively cheap.

Fifty five million dollars average annual value. What does that mean? Oh, it means so much. And as I say, next man up, I hope Jaguars fans do all are excited for Trevor Lawrence. I love his attitude. I love his leadership.

I love his character. I think he fits really well there. Obviously, what he did in college is so far back in the review mirror.

It's more about what he can do with the NFL level. And they did not finish well last season. Some of you told me that you think Doug Peterson is a coach who's on the hot seat in Jacksonville, which is kind of interesting, right? His first season, Urban Meyer. Unmitigated disaster.

For a million reasons. But the exact opposite of what Trevor Lawrence and the Jags needed. Doug Peterson comes in. What was he, a couple of years removed? Three years removed from the Super Bowl win with the Eagles. And right away, he speaks the same language. There's a new energy.

There's a new cooperation and collaboration between he and Trevor Lawrence. And they win the AFC South in his second year. And they also go to the playoffs and have the crazy comeback against the Chargers.

Truth be told, Jay and I stopped watching that game. We were watching the game and then at halftime they were trailing by 24, I think. Yeah, so initially they were trailing by 27. He threw three interceptions in the first half. And then they come back and they win in a stunning rally against the Chargers.

Last year though, they fall off a cliff and it's the Houston Texans who take over as the AFC South champions. They started 8-3. Then he had a concussion. There were other injuries.

And he really scuffled. They were 1-5 down the stretch and completely missed the playoffs. Ian Rappaport with some of the details of this new Trevor Lawrence extension. The new highest paid quarterback in the NFL alongside Joe Burrow.

Five years. $275 million. That is the deal that the Jaguars and their former No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence agreed to. $55 million per year. $200 million guaranteed. $142 million fully this deal done by agent Jay Corey of MGC Sports. It's $37.5 million just to sign his name. And look, Trevor Lawrence has done everything he can to prove himself.

Not only being worth the No. 1 overall selection, but being the franchise quarterback for the Jaguars. His payday was coming. The Jags just decided proactively, you know what? Let's just do this now.

Let's just do this now! Exclamation point. Thank you, Ian Rappaport.

I know we had to cut you off a bit because we're heading up toward the top of the hour. But yeah, if you're looking at highest paid quarterbacks when it comes to yearly or average annual value, it's called AAV. He and Joe Burrow are now at $55 million per. Jared Goff is sitting in third place at $53 million per year. Justin Herbert, his deal came last year.

Gosh, I felt like it was closer to training camp. But his deal came last year at $52.5 million. Lamar Jackson, the reigning NFL MVP, is now in fifth place at $52 million. But this guaranteed money, it's getting to be more and more of the full contract. The percentage of guaranteed money is becoming larger when you think about the contracts.
