I think actually meeting someone who was not vaccinated and now has a lifelong struggle with a childhood disease really cemented for me that it's super important that we as parents continue to vaccinate our children.

Download the app or visit Carvana.com today. Try not to be jealous of my amazing life. No hoops or hockey the last two nights and so it's a different type of prep right because we're not beholding to the tv as much having to soak in every icing call, every foul, every junk or alley oop, every trip up and down the court, every run, every fast break, every goal.
It's different when you don't have playoffs and yet it's still playoff season. So I decided I would take advantage of my couple nights where I didn't have to be didn't have to be stuck to the tv and I decided this this is funny but also really pathetic. When my mom told me a long time ago that I should give presents to other people that I want myself or that I want myself that stuck with me and so after a month in which the husband and I have been traveling a ton and have been way out of our regular routines and honestly our routines are not regular but with all of the coming and going and Hawaii and Texas and everything else playoffs of course the house has not had a good cleaning from top to bottom. Now my husband is still a guy so I wouldn't say that he has been as obsessed with getting it clean as I have but I decided with these few nights and no postseason action what better way to be a sweet wife before his birthday than to tell him hey I'm cleaning the house for your birthday it's just one of your gifts don't worry it's not your only gift but could you imagine those of you who are out there and you're you're women and you're listening and you know how hard it is to keep up with a clean house man I thought it was hard to keep up with a house when it was just me and a couple pets goodness it's a lot harder to keep up with the house and the dishes when it's two people and two pets and for a while it was two people and three pets so a clean house seems like an amazing gift that's what I decided to give him gift number one I got a whole slew of gifts but gift number one not gift gift number one a clean house and so I've been furiously cleaning floors and bathrooms also doing yard work because we had a few hours of yard work to do just to make sure that's nice and he doesn't have to think about yard work on his birthday but then as I'm swiffering the kitchen floor an hour before it's time to come to work and the rest of the house is quiet or the cat was watching me swiffer the floor she's very helpful I'm moving chairs around as quietly as I can because everyone else is sleeping I'm thinking what am I doing but as I remember that this is a birthday gift and I don't want him to do it so that's the deal if I don't do it I believe he would probably step in and do some and I don't want him to clean so that's how I'm spending my nights without playoff action try not to be jealous I smell like cleaning supplies I'm mopping floors I'm vacuuming and I'm cleaning bathrooms yay oh laundry too super fun Jay I hope that you've had more fun and have had a better respite and time away from playoffs than I have had um less cleaning definitely than that but more fun I don't know hasn't really been that like fun I wouldn't say no no kind of kind of boring it's kind of on the couch oh what's on well at any point if you want to inject some labor into your boring I highly suggest cleaning floors maybe super fun my bathroom probably could use a scrub scrub actually I was cleaning the floors in the bathrooms before I was cleaning the floor in the kitchen whatever it's done now and I seriously wanted it done before we got to Wednesday evening so I'm off tomorrow night can't take off Thursday night which is his birthday because it's game one of the NBA finals I know it's pathetic but it's just how it goes and he tells me I knew what I was signing up for doesn't make it sound all that great does it anyway I knew what I was in for and I didn't want to be cleaning into our night off together and so instead I've been furiously cleaning to try to get everything done so that when I wake up on Wednesday afternoon there's just a few things left to do before I can make his coconut cream pie now see that's when the real fun begins that's the festivities Bob may or may not notice the fact that the house is clean but he will definitely notice that there is a coconut cream pie in the fridge now I've told him no pie until your actual birthday he has said that he doesn't think that that should be a hard and fast rule should there be pre-birthday pie hmm would you want your fam to give you pre-birthday dessert that's a tough call I think that's your call because like is it it's my gift is it better if like like birthday cake like you're not gonna have birthday cake on your pre-natal day right you're gonna have you're gonna wait until your what'd you call it your pre-natal day pre-natal I've never heard that before your pre-natal day that is not birthday cake then it's just cake right good point good point so it's not birthday pie if it's pre-natal pie that actually does not sound appetizing oh lordy all right I'm with you I'm with you so then I'm going to tell Bob that you're the one who said no pie before his birthday I don't want that on my on my shoulders but no I mean you could have like dessert on the day before but if it's that special birthday pie it's well considering that we're racing to lose 10 pounds the first person to lose 10 pounds I highly doubt that he will I might try hey why don't you have some dessert pre-birthday dessert right but I don't know that he will take the bait there but he's definitely going to have his favorite coconut cream pie and my favorite actually on his birthday so yeah the cleaning should be done because apparently I'm a glutton for punishment but the pie will have to wait until Wednesday evening and it can chill overnight in the fridge and then on Thursday he gets his favorite meal the meal he asked for as well as a couple of other little surprises so I don't know maybe my first birthday my husband's first birthday as a wife is going to be an epic failure I don't know maybe it's not good enough but it's going well so far you think so yeah cleaning it's just that I would love it if all of a sudden I woke up and the house was completely cleaned or if it was completely clean and I didn't have to lift a finger yeah I'd be over the moon that's a good guess say no more I don't need prenatal pie I just need a clean house oh it's after hours with Amy Lawrence good morning to you babe I know he's gonna be listening in the morning so I just have to say hi and happy almost birthday it's our hump show and for those of you who know those two words you're familiar with them you set your clock by them you also know it means you can ask Amy anything so as we say sayonara to a Tuesday night and we head into a Wednesday morning all across the spectrum you have the chance to submit your questions for ask Amy anything on our show Twitter or Twix as I've been calling it but Jay doesn't love that he's I'm still trying to sell him on it at Amy after hours and then on our Facebook page named after the show easy peasy our phone number eight five five two one two four two two seven sure if you call Jay and submit your questions over the phone I feel like you might have a better chance at getting them asked on the show what do you think no uh it's like it's a good chance either way I think but that's I mean if you directly guess maybe you can like kind of charm me Jay likes snacks and soda is all I'm going to say I have to stop drinking any kind of soda though Jay just as a side note because have you seen how expensive it is it's getting up there I went on let's see over memorial day weekend or before memorial day weekend to my local grocery store because very often before holidays especially the summer holidays they will have a big sale on soda cases and they'll say buy three get two free which I'm good with and then I have enough soda to get me through the rest of 2024 I do this once a year I don't drink it all that often couple times a week maybe that's probably even more than and than what is accurate but I do love to have a Dr Pepper Zero or a Coke Zero in the house just in case it's a hot day and and I need a refresher anyway I went to the grocery store and on sale on sale thirteen dollars and fifty cents for a 12-pack wow that was on sale the actual price of it was well over 15 bucks and somehow that was a sale that's insanity right we can get cans of soda in our vending machine for a buck right and that's even overcharging a soda should be more than a dollar no like when you're buying in a bolt like that especially yeah so they that's what they consider a sale so it's definitely gone up and and right now I'm weaning myself off of it wow well I have a new soda hack if you're interested you make your own that would be very cool but fountain soda I do love fountain soda it's actually better that way I have like a 7-eleven or a wah-wah or anything by you just go in there and get a big huge fountain soda they charge like two dollars and you could last it for like multiple days really is that what you do you just put it in the fridge I don't want to give all my secrets but you put it in the fridge or you just leave it next to your bed you put in the fridge next to the bed wherever it says how old are you you are not a teenager you know I like soda I do I do actually just went ahead and bought a two liter to kind of go through the next couple weeks that's the idea yeah so maybe that's where we're in in lockstep or in sync but I'm kind of bummed because I do just really enjoy having a cold can of soda available when I get done with yard work or cleaning the floor at 11 pm eastern time nice cold soda yeah beat it there wasn't any but the floor is clean so there's that that's good yes our hump show not only includes ask amy anything we're going to talk about the team with the best record in the american league it's also tied for the best record in baseball how did that happen well a scorching month of may that's how it happened for the new york yankees who now have the same record as the philadelphia phillies we talked about them actually the last two nights but had our friend john concade on the show monday morning with us so we feel like it's only fair to then focus a little bit on the yankees and thinking back to spring training people were nervous fired up already grousing about injuries to erin judge and garrett cole so i wonder if their 43 and 19 record is a bit of a surprise to some people and whether or not brian cashman has once again earned another year at the job people are ready people are ready to fire brian cashman every other week when the lineup's not working that's it he needs to lose his job he didn't put the right roster together well i think for now no one's getting fired with the yankees neither erin boone nor brian cashman instead you've got a lot of fans who think this could be the year they end their world series drought we're in it to win it i don't want to remind people it's early june it's not necessarily to freak out not necessarily the way it's going to go the rest of the season however the fact that our headquarters are located in manhattan means we get a healthy dose of yankees pretty much every single day chase shaking his head healthy is the mets could do the same exact thing they just refuse to they try they refuse to they don't want to in any way threaten the grit that the yankees have on the city of new york at this point like they're to talk about the meds is just comedy so it's almost like like a relief it's a waste of our time it's not something the rest of the nation wants to hear but there are yankees fans scattered all over the country we know that wherever i travel i run into yankees fans and so it's a good time to check in on erin judge and juan soto and also their ace their reigning psi young award-winning ace who has not pitched yet this season could be returning to the rotation before long so we'll talk about the yankees following their sixth straight win also in major league baseball an announcement from the dodgers did you see it it's funny because i didn't even have to start perusing the headlines myself before i woke up i had people sending me a screenshot of the dodgers announcement which in essence expressed their pleasure that the ipay mitsuhara case is closed the dodgers are moving forward with shohei otani they're thrilled to know that it's in the rearview mirror and here's why the developments on tuesday ipay mitsuhara former friend and interpreter for shohei otani has pleaded guilty to both bank and tax fraud charges and now will await sentencing which comes in october huh interesting how sentencing for some people comes within weeks and sentencing for other takes months and months and months i need to know who gonna be the fall guy jay don't act like that is a show-wide opinion jay is still not sure that this is on the up and up not sure that's all not sure we we feel like there's plenty of room for reasonable doubt about whether or not this was solely ipay mitsuhara solely ipay mitsuhara but still get you a fall guy oh no jay you're gonna get me in trouble ipay sentencing is set for october 25th and there is talk that his prison sentence could be decades any chance you want to just for fun when you have a chance grab that chunk of the michael duarte interview which we talked about this last night because what we heard from michael is that there's a very real possibility that jail time is not part of the equation or that it's minimal time behind bars honestly it blew me away to the point where i had to clarify make sure i wasn't hearing something wrong from michael duarte so the dodgers put out a statement we're pleased that show hey and the team can put this entire matter behind them and move forward in pursuit of a world series title otani himself released a statement now that the investigation has been completed this full admission of guilt has brought important closure to me and my family i want to sincerely thank the authorities for finishing their thorough and effective investigations so quickly and in covering all of the evidence this has been a uniquely challenging time for me so i'm especially grateful for my support team my family agent agency lawyers and advisors along with the entire dodgers organization who showed endless support throughout this process otani statement finishes with it's time to close this chapter move on and continue to focus on playing and winning ball games so mitsuhara didn't say much in court he had a tuesday morning hearing just yes sir and no sir when the judge asked him about the plea agreement if he understood it and the rights he was giving up by admitting his guilt it was a hearing that took under an hour but this is interesting i think you might appreciate this part near the end of this hearing the attorney for the prosecution right so the attorney that's essentially bringing the charges he asked ipay mitsuhara to describe what he did we don't have a recording of this but this was mitsuhara's response i worked for victim a and i had access to his bank account and i had fallen into major gambling debt and the only way that i could think of was to use his money i had access to bank a so i went ahead and wired money from my gambling debt with his bank account that was his response about what he did in addition to a lengthy prison sentence how about this mitsuhara this mitsuhara faces a maximum fine of a million and a quarter dollars wait i should say a million and a quarter dollars it still sounds awkward a million and a quarter a million and a quarter 1.25 million dollars and also he has to pay all the money back there's no way he's ever going to be able to pay all the money back unless he starts gambling and hits it big which i would not recommend jay yeah 17 million dollars there's no way that he could pay this back because ipay mitsuhara is not a u.s citizen and he faces significant immigration consequences and a risk of deportation those are both quotes from the hearing but get this he would have to serve his jail time first before he gets deported now that's where our conversation with michael duarte comes in because i was stunned to hear him say some of what he's hearing as chatter in la has to do with mitsuhara avoiding time behind bars so you'll hear that coming up plus one pirate's rookie not paul skeans a different pirate's rookie got the best of shohei otani in their first match up oh and right on the heels of us talking about the chicago sky you hearing the comments of angel reese and kennedy carter after the extracurricular activity with kaitlyn clark and the fever on saturday reese gets teed up and ejected from the sky's latest game man it's non-stop for the wnba i feel like you've all been missing out for years it's like a reality show all right on twix at a law radio but if you fidelity brokerage services llc member nyse sipc listen as selenia tells us why she chose to vaccinate her daughter i definitely felt like the pros far outweighed the cons the diseases that i am protecting my child against they're still here and at the end of the day it's my job as a mother to keep my child safe talk to your child's doctor and learn more at why vaccines.com brought to you by merc with amy lawrence you are listening to the after hours podcast shohay was very honest in his take of kind of what happened and so i know that for me the organization we support them i'm looking forward to kind of just moving forward and obviously you know letting the uh the authorities take care of it and just uh you know focus on baseball this is after hours with amy lawrence back to late march for dave roberts when shohay otani finally made his public comments after the allegations against mitsuhara he indicated he was blindsided he had no idea that the money was being siphoned and bilked and stolen from his accounts and now here we are just a few months later and the investigation has wrapped up and not only is otani free to go on about his baseball but he can heal now and honestly let's take it for face value for a second believing that otani had nothing to do with this there's no smoking gun there's no way to connect him even if you believe that he was party to the gambling and that the debts are partly his there's no way at this point all opportunities to connect him to the gambling they've been squashed there would have to be some new evidence something different and there's just not at this point ipay mitsuhara has pled guilty the dodgers are putting it in the rearview mirror it happened quickly maybe ipay believed that he was sunk anyway or maybe this plea agreement actually will give him the opportunity to avoid the worst of the penalties it's after hours with amy lawrence again he pled guilty on tuesday morning in la and will wait now for his sentencing which doesn't happen till nearly halloween interesting our friend michael duarte of nbc la has been covering this story closely we've had him on the show multiple times to talk about some of the ripple effects well i was kind of stunned that he indicated there there's some chatter that mitsuhara may avoid jail time altogether i was flabbergasted and i wanted him to clarify that he could steal all that money from a colleague and somehow still avoid time behind bars well he still could serve some jail time we'll see what it says but as part of what i'm hearing from part of the plea deal that he said is that he's going to implicate some higher-ups in this maybe some other people obviously help out with the investigation into matthew boyton himself which started all this and like i said in these cases the big thing here is the the the gambling ring dealing yeah well yes but the stealing of the 17 million from otani is what could put him in jail but placing the bets illegally most of the time it's not the the clients that place the bets it's the bookies and the people that are laundering the money that take the falls for these things oh i'm sorry did he say take the fall huh right so he wasn't referring to ebay there jay so don't get super excited about it but still get you a fall guy this is how it's gonna go and if he serves no jail time duarte went on to talk about how potentially this could lead to deportment then once he's given up all the info that he has and he's shared every bit of intel he's got from his time as a degenerate and a thief then he's back to japan and can live out the rest of his life with his family and not in jail which blows me away i don't know if that means he is going to have to set up some type of payment plan for restitution for the rest of his life no idea but i think if you got to japan the u.s authorities lose all control over anything how can you force a guy who's in japan to pay money that's owed the united states so who knows how this works out we'll have to wait until nearly halloween crazy to get the sentencing but as for the dodgers it's full speed ahead and shohay otani had his hands full actually with pirates rookie jared jones on tuesday it never eclipsed 101 and did so twice in that at bat now ahead one and two on otani and a swing and a miss struck him out 101 jared jones strikes out shohay otani let him have it with that heat on pirates radio yeah the rookie jared jones goes six shutout innings in a one nothing win over the dodgers part of the reason why that dodgers lineup was stymied he only allowed three hits and struck out six and struck out six and routinely hit triple digits on the gun and here's kind of a neat twist the dodgers were his favorite team when he was growing up nerves can get to me pretty easily um but uh just settling back and you know i got i got a little wild a little bit but uh just keeping the nerves down uh just going out there and competing he's got to be fired up i mean he grew up you know a dodger fan and that's no easy lineup to go through and that's an understatement statement and to go through it the way he did and continue to execute pitches he's 22 years old now but jared talked about how his summers when he was growing up were about trips to dodger stadium and so you can imagine what a thrill it is for him to face these dodgers and yeah some of the best hitters in the game certainly the highest paid a reigning almvp and to throw up six zeros now when he made his debut or no not his debut in his last start excuse me he really struggled against the tiger so this was obviously a much better answer and it's pretty cool even though the pirates are below 500 it's pretty cool to see both jones and paul skeans pitching in this rotation a lot of excitement there you can imagine that people are showing up to the ballpark to watch these two guys pitch the issue of course is and i would think for pirates fans they worry about this how long are they here how long are they here at some point we're going to trade them we're not going to pay them so they're going to be out of here anyway i don't want to get attached it's like knowing there's an expiration date why bother getting attached but that that hurts and livy done did you hear that last week marco which part this was a young baseball fan who went to a pirate's game and was talking about how paul skeans is his favorite pitcher and he was interviewed on the broadcast about why and what he likes about paul his mustache and livy done yeah he's 11 years old he's 11 and in fifth grade that's the age i teach on sundays at my church fourth and fifth graders i can't imagine now i i don't want to be naive they obviously watch tv a couple of them are huge star wars fans so faces light up whenever i talk about star wars so probably they've seen princess leia in her golden bikini costume in java the hud's palace so yeah i don't want to pretend or act like i you know i think these kids are completely naive but fifth grader gets interviewed on tv and that's what he comes up with his mustache and livy done yep and livy done and yells it he's so proud a menace oh no doubt no he was i wonder if his parents are proud of the fact that he knows or believes that paul skean's significant other is attractive maybe there's a dad out there who's proud about that at 11 would you be proud you have a son who's 10 right okay well he'll be he'll be 10 about a week right that's what i thought all the kiddos having their birthdays uh and what are you doing for them what's the class party this is the cool this makes marco a really cool dad this is it uh for the soon to be 10 year old we're having the game truck the game truck it's like a video game truck i want a video game truck that is cool uh it's going to basically the parking lot of a pizzeria because i don't have a yard that i could put this thing in uh and we have to be able to feed the kids afterwards so you get like two hours to play on the on the truck you get all the games and then pizza and cake and all that for my 33rd seriously i'd like to have that for my next birthday doesn't that make marco and his wife the coolest parents on the block uh let's put it this way it's her because she just she found that my son knew about it so he asked she found it and did all the research i'm just along for the ride okay so then back to your son who is soon to be 10 if he got interviewed on tv at say a yankees game on the yes network and they were facing the pirates and he was all excited about paul's mustache and his girlfriend livy dunn and livy dunn would you be proud uh would i be proud proud probably probably you guys should see marco's face right now giant smile a poop-eating grin on marco's face probably i won't deny probably that's hysterical all right that was my question for marco you can send your questions for me ask amy anything a couple hours from now so you've got time on of it but yes i probably would be yes these are the questions acquiring minds want to know you are listening to the after hours podcast people are pulling up to games we got celebrities coming to games sold out arenas like just because of one single game and just looking at that like i'll take that role i'll take the bad guy role and i'll continue to take that on and be that for my teammates and if i want to be that and i know i'll go down in history i'll look back in 20 years and be like yeah the reason why we watch women's basketball is not just because of one person it's because of me too and i want y'all to realize that this is after hours with amy lawrence angel reese rookie for the chicago sky whose college career is inevitably intertwined with caitlin clark and now they are making their debut in the wnba at the same time and those were her comments on monday really the spark for a conversation that i really enjoyed on our last show what sport event or league have you ever really gotten into and started to watch because of one player and we got bombarded by your answers it's terrific thank you so much for engaging with us i don't agree with angel i think that the numbers and the trends bear out that this is mostly about caitlin clark it's kind of interesting now i started to hear some talk show hosts who were skeptical at the beginning about clark's staying power and her ability to take fans with her to the wnba there's one host in particular which there's no need to call him out he was wrong he's admitted he's wrong and that's he's wrong and that's the part that i think is fascinating not generally a host that admits he's wrong but he was scoffing about the idea that anyone would watch the wnba simply for this one player who came out of iowa right and now he's admitting he was dead wrong because the entire world is talking about the wnba news and sports and the vast majority of the conversation is sparked by caitlin clark and that's okay we used a bunch of different examples of athletes in the past who have drawn new eyeballs new money new investment to their sport and have left the sport better off good for caitlin she's the chosen one for the wnba now i know there are a lot of different debates about the rest of the league and and who cares about the rest of the league and the other rookies and angel believes that there are many players worth watching in the league i agree with that too but right now the vast majority of the new interest is because of caitlin although if angel keeps getting tossed out of games then maybe there'll be more headlines about her too yeah i'm being snarky i actually don't think she deserved to get tossed in the fourth quarter of the sky game on tuesday evening of course i couldn't hear what she said but i said this before about gosh i i can't remember somebody who got teed up not that long ago and it seemed fairly mild sometimes officials get a little bit sensitive now it is well within their rights you're probably better off not showing up an official in any sport whether it's baseball whether it's basketball whether it's hockey you don't want to bank on the fact that the official is okay with you airing your grievances and using choice words and then either waving him off or dismissing him or using a hand gesture yeah it's it's better to not bother because officials do have the right to tee you up if they feel like you are either being combative or you've not heeded a warning or you're showing them up you're embarrassing them some officials take that more personally than others but they are within their rights i felt like it was a kind of a soft ejection but that's what happened for angel reese there was a foul she didn't agree with it a little bit of chirping with the referee and then kind of a wave of the hand and it seemed like that was the point at which the official decided well you know what you can hit the showers early there were two and a half minutes to go in the fourth quarter of the sky game against the liberty now angel reese did not talk after the game but we did hear from one of her teammates marina mabry on what she saw and she was standing right there when reese got the double technical she got two tags she told said something to the ref and so um whatever he felt like was the correct call is what he made it's more about composure for us um in our young years in the wnba so you know you get to know refs and how they respond to things very professional and mature answer by marina yeah that's the deal when you're young you don't get nearly as much leeway with the officials and i don't think you should i honestly i feel this way about rookies in the nba as well stop yapping at the referees you just got here they've been here for years in many cases and i don't necessarily think you need to earn your stripes or pay your dues or any of those cliches that you could use but i do think that it's important to build a relationship with a referee first to have that referee know you and know how you play and also you adjust to the official because ultimately the official is the final word so i think when it comes to young players who are just getting their feet wet yeah keep your mouth shut don't be talking to a veteran official that only gets you into more hot water and then you know what it does it establishes a precedent that you're likely to be someone who complains about calls it's just not worth it the whatever satisfaction you get by losing your composure as as mabry points out or chirping at a ref or getting the last word or waving your hand whatever satisfaction you feel like you earn by doing that all it does is establish a precedent with this official and now you're already in a situation where that's your first impression so i i think yeah for young players it's better off to just do your work shut up what have we what do we hear from luca recently he was wasting so much energy now he's not a rookie but wasting so much energy complaining about calls and getting upset about calls he just wanted to go back to the joy of playing basketball again i felt like it was kind of soft but at the same time when you're a rookie there is something to be said about catching the lay of the land and establishing a little bit of a rapport with an official before you speak your mind don't even say it man it's different when it's brianne stewart who talks to an official and she's an mvp multiple times and she's also a champion same thing with say a patrick mahomes speaking to an official in the nfl versus caleb williams complaining about something although quarterbacks we know they're protected although quarterbacks we know they're protected by bubble wrap proverbial bubble wrap all right look when you a little bit later on it's interesting to hear the reigning wnba mvp talk about the physical nature of the league and what it's like to adjust because that's been a major question is kaitlyn clark getting more attention is she getting fouled harder is she not getting the same protection that other players are getting from the officials see these are all questions that are being asked is she being targeted that's another one but we're gonna pivot to baseball and the yankees coming up next it's after hours with amy lawrence this episode is brought to you by progressive insurance whether
