Fall is just around the corner and home is the center of it all. At Ashley, seasonal decorating's a breeze with their range of designs and materials. Snuggle up on a family-friendly sectional or an ultra-modern sofa. Or gather outside and enjoy the crisp, cool air with a new fire pit or conversation set. From minor refreshes to total overhauls, Ashley has the essentials to make your home fall functional and fabulous.

Shop in store or visit Ashley.com today. We made it to the home show! This was a doozy, right? Getting adjusted to the start of the NFL schedule. And now here we are, just over, well just under a couple days from the start of week two in the NFL. So in 48 hours we'll already be into the first game from the second week.

And in case you're wondering, yes, it is in fact on Amazon Prime coming up this Thursday. I'm pretty sure producer Jay just booed behind the double pane glass. Was that a cheer or a boo? No, that was a boo.

It was a boo. Yeah, I actually, and many of you may have had to figure it out as well, I actually started watching, probably about week four or so, started watching Amazon Prime football on my laptop. Because on the TV it's, even though my laptop is smaller, on the TV it's annoying to be honest because you have to be in the app and then you can't back out and watch anything else easily. And even if you're on a smart TV and you're not worried about your actual cable, so for me I have, still have cable in addition to having a couple of the different services like Amazon Prime.

But then if you're trying to watch even another app, you still have to hit back, back, back, back, back and then get out of Amazon Prime, go into another service, find something else that you might be watching. And especially during the baseball playoffs, it is impossible to do that and not miss a whole bunch of stuff. And so I found it's much easier to watch on my laptop and we'll get a battle between two NFC teams that are supposed to be contenders once we get to the late stages of the season and into the playoffs. The Vikings, though they did not look that way with a bunch of turnovers and miscues against the Buccaneers, and now they're on the road at Philadelphia so the Eagles have a chance to move to 2-0 and maybe put the Vikings in an 0-2 hole. Remember when the Vikings ran away with the NFC North last season and then of course got bounced in the playoffs, but this was supposed to be an opportunity for them to kind of exert their dominance, maybe to get two division titles in a row. Yes, the Lions are an up-and-coming team with the hype train in 2023. I don't know that the expectations are very high for Green Bay and certainly it feels like the Bears are still a work in progress, to say the least. But after what I saw from Green Bay this past weekend, I actually think that they are still full of veterans, still full of guys who know what it means to be professional football players. They're not working it out.

And while Jordan Love may be a question mark to a lot of people on the outside, it doesn't appear as though the Packers themselves have many question marks about him. By the way, Green Bay will be on the road at Atlanta in week two, so a pair of teams that got a win in their openers. Oh, so many intriguing storylines this early in the season. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio. It's our hump show, middle show of the work week, definitely a respite.

Oh, it's like taking a brief island vacation and that reminds me, put it down on your to-do list, maybe put it in your phone. Don't forget to make your picks for week two so that you can survive Survivor Island. There's three of them. Jay, any idea how many peeps were eliminated from Survivor Island in week number one?

I don't have the exact number at the moment, but I can get it. Hmm. I bet I could get it too, actually. But I will leave that up to you. And as for you all, because it's the hump show, you get the chance to ask Amy anything. Why don't you ask me what came in the mail this week? Well, OK, I'll wait until you ask. It's that old game of, well, how do I know you care if you don't ask? Well, how would I even know what to ask? But I don't know you care if you don't ask. So, you know, I'll wait for you to ask and then I'll tell you. Producer Jay and I recognize that we are closing in on mid-September and I've promised you, we've promised you a wedding version.

It's been a long time since I've mentioned that here on the radio. A wedding version of Ask Amy Anything that will be exclusive to our YouTube channel. So it's a video version only on YouTube.

That way we can send you there. When you continue to ask us the FAQs about Amy's wedding, we can send you there and you can just watch the video. Speaking of videos, guess what, Producer Jay?

What's that? Even though I wasn't real cognizant of it as we were recording our latest YouTube video, which was about the teams, the new teams that will make the NFL playoffs after this season. So we did our own welcome back football video.

Lots of traffic to it already. One woman posted on the link on our Facebook page, hey, I can kind of see your ring in the video. Now, again, I wasn't real cognizant of it, but I do remember a couple of times when we were recording that video, I thought, oh, gosh, I wonder if anybody's going to pause it and freeze frame it to try to get a shot of the ring, which I don't care. I mean, it's not as though I'm hiding the ring. I'm just not going to post a photo of the ring because that feels very pretentious to me.

I wouldn't be doing that. I haven't done it on my own Facebook page. I wouldn't do it on social media. I have shared it with other people, of course, but not on social. However, if you're ingenious or you have some ingenuity and you would like to check it out, according to Luna, you can almost see the ring on social media. I'm sorry, not on social on our YouTube channel with our latest YouTube video. So I will leave that up to you. There is proof, though, that's proof that there is an actual ring.

So you got to find the right still frame moment, pause it. Do you think people are that maniacal about it? Oh, I think it's going to I think we're going to see an increase in views in the next few minutes. We also have a woman named Stephanie who every single week as part of the hump show, which means you can ask Amy anything every single week. She sends me her latest pitch to be one of my bridesmaids.

I saw that actually. Today, she listed an entire. It's really a monologue, but more more like a soliloquy coming from from Greek literature and a Greek tragedy where she tells me all the reasons why she can be my something borrowed, something new, something weight, something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. And she gives me all of the reasons why she can fit the bill for that. I don't think that's the idea, though. I don't think it's supposed to be a bridesmaid who fits all of those qualifications.

I think it's supposed to be different elements that the bride has on her person for the wedding. Yeah, I think you're more accurate with that one. But I saw her I saw that post. She was waiting all day to post. Oh, yes.

Some people do really look forward to ask Amy anything. But again, the wedding version will be exclusive to our YouTube channel. We're working on that for next week. So this time next week, you finally have some of your burning wedding questions answered. But even if that was supposed to be this week, Aaron Rodgers derailed everything, everything. He just turned the NFL upside down, flipped it on its head.

We did get confirmation. Oh, gosh, about 11 hours ago, because as I was waking up, Robert Sala was just doing his press conference in the mid-afternoon East Coast. It was just before lunch on or just after lunch.

Excuse me, I guess, depending on when you eat on the West Coast. And Aaron Rodgers is a West Coast kid, but had chosen to bring his talents to the New York City area. And it lasted four snaps and four minutes. And I still feel terribly for him.

I really do. You don't have to like Aaron Rodgers or even know him as a person to feel terrible for a guy who at 39 years old was so excited for something new and a fresh start. Haven't we all been in that situation before? And now in an utterly cruel twist, he is out for a year and we don't know if he will return. We don't know whether or not we'll ever see Aaron Rodgers on the football field again.

That actually sucks. The fact that this could be the end, and maybe it's not, it's all speculation, we've not heard from Aaron. I know that Robert Sala talked about Aaron, not just the injury, but also talked about him and his spirits. So we'll hear from Robert Sala coming up a little bit later on, but even more so to dive into the Jets prospects for 23 and what they do with the quarterback position. We will talk to Antoine Staley at the top of the hour. Judging by his Twitter, he has had quite a day. You can imagine all the Jets writers and broadcasters have been inundated with requests. Once the dust settled and we knew for sure that Aaron was out for the season, they got bombarded.

And Robert Sala, that's why he did a press conference because he was also going to get bombarded with questions, you might as well go ahead and rip off the Band-Aid. Gosh, everything that they put into this for the last six months and now it's a pivot, a hard pivot. Or as I said on last night's show, a switchback. You're going one direction and all of a sudden you come around a really sharp turn where if you're going too fast, you'll fly off the side of a cliff.

And now you're going back the other direction. The AFC is tough, it's really tough. And while I still think the Jets have some very talented players, I still think the Jets could be a tough out.

The problem is they play in a very challenging division and in addition to that, the AFC is by far the more competitive conference with more teams that will push you to the limit. And then we've talked about this in the past, the Jets schedule over the first month is rough. There were people speculating about whether or not the Jets could even get through this month with a winning record with Aaron Rodgers as their QB. But now think about the prospects without him.

And again, Robert Sala addresses those prospects and we'll hear from him this hour. They started out with the Bills, they go on the road at the Cowboys, that's week number two. Then home to the Patriots, who to be fair, even if they aren't a great team, always know how to pick the Jets apart for some reason. It's a Bill Belichick thing, I'm pretty sure.

He may not be, in your opinion, a Hall of Fame coach anymore, which makes me laugh. Many people don't think he can coach anymore, he's nothing without Tom Brady, but I tell you what, he's still got plenty of juice for the Jets. Then they have the Chiefs at home, followed by a trip to Denver. Broncos are not as scary as they used to be, but it's still a game in Denver. And then they finish that these first six weeks against the Eagles. Oh, and then against the Giants, so it's a tough gauntlet. They've got to run the gauntlet in these first six weeks. That's what the AFC is all about. That's what the AFC East is all about.

So regardless of how good the rest of the team might be, the challenge is if you don't have a special quarterback, you could get left behind. So on Twitter, ALawRadio, we got the Bills perspective from Sal Capaccio on our last show, and we'll get the perspective from the Jets in 45 minutes. In the meantime, of course you're checking out our YouTube channel now, please subscribe to it because it makes Producer J super happy. And it's the Hump Show, which means you get to ask Amy anything. Send your questions to our show Twitter after our CBS, look for the bright orange box. Lots of questions already coming in. And then our Facebook page too.

If you too would like to be a bridesmaid, I suppose that's the place to make your pitch. We're going to work in a little bit of baseball in this edition of the show, and we're finally going to get back to some college football. I did enjoy the Texas Alabama game on Saturday night.

And I don't know, this is my question to you. I hear about blended sports families all the time. My fiancé, Bob, as you know him, he is a huge Longhorns fan. Most of his family is, though there are a couple who went to Texas A&M, so they're Aggies fans. But am I now expected to be a Longhorns fan? Or if I'm not expected to be, but I decide that I'll root for them to keep the family peace?

And I really don't. I went to Syracuse, so I follow Syracuse, but it's been a long time since I was really rooting, rooting for the orange. Gosh, they've gone through so many iterations of that team. Anyway, if I decide to root for the Longhorns to keep the peace, oh goodness, all my Oklahoma friends are going to be so mad having spent four years in Oklahoma.

Even though Texas is, well in Oklahoma, departing for the SEC soon. Is that bandwagon jumping? I'm kind of morally opposed to bandwagon jumping. No, that's not bandwagon jumping.

It's not. It's in order to have cohesion and just a nice Saturday without yelling, well he may be yelling, without consternation, without conflict. Right, it's for the greater good. The greater good of my marriage?

You're not joining the Texas fanhood because they're a powerhouse and they're so good and you just want to be a part of that success. No, you just want something to do together on Saturdays and you have a little rooting interest, that's fine. Alright, okay. Maybe I'll make the food for Saturdays. That's nice. I'm sure he'll like that.

That'll be a way to keep the peace as well. Although I think he's figured out that the key to my heart is definitely what you feed me. And I think for him, food is not quite as important. Maybe it's Longhorns football.

He's a big hunter too. You know what's really funny, Producer J? I've made the joke that this is how much he knows I love him. That I've agreed to get married on an NFL Sunday. It fit our schedules.

It's something I never thought I would do. In fact, when I first got in this business, I would make jokes about people who got married during football season, forget on an NFL Sunday. Now of course, it's not even a sacrifice.

It's just the right day. I couldn't care less if I'm missing one NFL Sunday. It's not going to kill me. Football will be there when I get back. I won't even think about it. Maybe I'll think about it once, but you'll keep me posted. No, I'm not going to check the scores while I'm in my wedding dress at the back of the chapel checking the scores. No, I'm not going to be doing that. But it is weird.

It's a total shift. Well, he tells me that an indication of how much he loves me is that he will be in New Jersey for his next visit on the first day of Texas hunting season. So I suppose we're both making sacrifices.

I'd say. I try not to use that word because I don't want him to think that it's a sacrifice to get married on an NFL Sunday. I want you to know it was my idea. This date was originally my idea. We were talking about the weekend before Christmas and thought we could do the Saturday, but in case you didn't know, it's really expensive to get married on a Saturday. And it's actually cheaper to do it on a Sunday.

So, yeah. So the college football on a Saturday didn't bother him? I think college football is done by then. Yeah, there might be some bowl games. I don't even know if there's bowl games that early. Who watches bowl games in mid-December? No one. Anyway, there are many sacrifices to be made.

That's what I'm learning. Compromise to keep the peace. Root for the Longhorns to make sure we have common ground and we have calm. Well, he won't be calm, but we don't have any conflict over college football.

I can do this. I feel like people keep telling me how hard marriage is. What I'm going to do is just root for your partner's team. What's the big deal? All you got to do is get married on an NFL Sunday. What's the big deal?

All right. Coming up, we'll hear from Robert Sala and what else? Oh, have you noticed that the Texas Rangers, not the Longhorns, the Rangers are surging again after what was a major swoon? And I got to tell you, it's the Cardinals. It feels like deja vu. It's not Albert Pujols chasing 700, but oh, it's close. It's close. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio.

The Miami Dolphins. 148 left to play. The Dolphins trail the charges 34 to 30 and the third and goal at the five yard line.

Going in. Throws it to the corner and it's caught. Tyreek Hill touchdown.

Who else can you beat in a game? My gosh. Tyreek Hill again. What a throw. What a throw by Tua.

Just just frozen for just a second. You can't throw the ball any better than that. Right over the shoulder of Davis. Right into the arms of Tyreek.

Unbelievable. The San Francisco 49ers. Stretch run coming left to McCaffrey. Stays play side. Breaks a tackle. 45. Blocked from Ayuk down the sideline. 30. Cuts back inside.

20. Still in bounds down the sideline. Diving for the end zone. Touchdown.

CMC. The Atlanta Falcons. Ritter goes to the gun with Tyler Algier. Two receivers here to the near side. In motion goes Robinson. Both on the field at the same time. They're going to throw it to Bijan. Out in space and he made the first guy miss. He'll get to the five and score. Holy smokes.

My heavens. Frankie Louvou is on the poster for Bijan Robinson's first touchdown. The New York Jets. And getting away a line drive kick is Sam Martin. Gibson runs under it at the jet 35. Starts to his left. Gets to the 40.

Turns the corner. At the 45. Blockers in front. At the 40. At the bills 30. Inside the 20.

Stutter steps to the 10. To the five. Touchdown. Touchdown. This game is over. What a way to end Monday Night Football. Gibson's going to take this one back. 63 yards for the touchdown. The undrafted rookie who was the star of Hard Knocks. Turns out to offer the exclamation point on Monday Night Football. But the emotional roller coaster did not end there.

We'll talk about that fallout coming up. But it is the candidate for TD of the week with Bob Wachusen and the Jets Radio Network. Or you can go Falcons Radio and Bijan Robinson another rookie. Scoring his first touchdown with a juke that left the defender speechless.

Christian McCaffrey he's no rookie. He's still just as good as the first year we got him in the league. 65 yard touchdown. He's banging through a bunch of defenders. And for the Niners, well he's the highest paid running back in the NFL. And they believe he's worth every cent. On Niners Radio before that Tyreek Hill who was your choice for a Monday MVP. With his 215 yards of receiving.

And then the connection with Tua that's so dynamic. Welcome back to those are your candidates for TD of the week. You can find the poll. It is up on our show Twitter. Pinned at the top of our show Twitter.

After hours CBS or I just retweeted ALaw Radio. And on our Facebook page you're blowing up this post. Many of you were doing write in candidates as well. But a lot of you choosing to participate in our polls because you're psyched about football as well.

Jay was just saying to me how much more traffic we've had on social media in the last few days. And yeah that is the power of football to be sure. And for Jets fans, for football fans actually it doesn't need to be just Jets fans. It was a shocker to see Aaron Rodgers helped off the field. Four minutes and four snaps into his first game at MetLife Stadium. And we were waiting for the confirmation.

Got it from Robert Sala. It is a torn Achilles, a ruptured Achilles for Aaron. And man this changes everything. He's invested so much into this organization. So much into this journey that he's embarked on and wanting to be a part of what we've got going here. And how much he's invested in not only this organization but his teammates, himself, this fan base, this city. You know so I have a lot of emotions for him. As for us, it's really all about him.

It is. I don't look at it like woe is me here for the organization. I think guys are excited about being able to step up and continue the things that we've been building. But a lot of hurt for Aaron.

Yeah of course. And to this point, the only thing we really know about Aaron's reaction is that he's down. We haven't heard from him. And I'm sure some of his friends who are on the team, Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb he's been friends with forever.

These are a few guys that he's played with before. I'm sure they have either reached out to him or spent time with him. But at this point we haven't heard anything from Aaron himself. I have no idea because we're not going to be using his conversations for the Pat McAfee show anymore. But I don't know if he's scheduled to appear or is it Tuesdays again?

Anybody have any idea? Yeah it was definitely Tuesdays but I don't know. With the injury I can't imagine he would appear this week. I'm sure he did.

I didn't see any headlines so I don't think he did this week. I would assume that they would either push it back or just skip the week. But I would think he would probably keep whatever the appointment whatever you want to call it and just talk all year long as long as McAfee wants him. Which I would imagine he does. It's just going to be awkward as hell because he's going to ask about the Jets and Zach Wilson and whatever quarterback they wind up bringing in.

And depending on how the Jets play it's going to be weird. But looking at it from Aaron's perspective I don't even think I'd want to. I just I can't imagine that I would have the heart for it. This is maybe my emotions would die down but right now football would be the last thing that I'd be wanting to talk about. It's hard to say I mean again and that's his buddy and he's already committed to it. As long as McAfee would want him I could see Rodgers still fulfilling his obligation in that regard. We'll find out real soon. This week I would think no simply because I mean the guy gets hurt on Monday night he's not going to be on any show on Tuesday.

That's just not going to happen. So I'm sure you give it like at least a week and then who knows when the surgery is. So you know what I mean. So I would think it takes a little bit but at some point we're probably going to see him with McAfee I would imagine. So Zach Wilson is getting that vote of confidence. Let's see whether or not it's a dreaded vote of confidence. But it's a vote of confidence from Robert Sala and the Jets organization. We are going to look through some things but I do want to make it very clear Zach's our quarterback. We've got a lot of faith in Zach. We're really excited about his opportunity. But we're rolling with Zach and excited for him and like I said this opportunity that he's going to get. So Zach Wilson or bust that's the idea. Though Robert indicates they will attempt to turn over some rocks if you will at the quarterback position.

But why? Why are they sure that Zach Wilson can't handle this where he's failed in the past? From a mental standpoint he's so much different than this time a year ago.

You know he's a great friend of mine. He's loving the game of football. He's loving the process that he's going through. He's got a lot of confidence. All the little things that we saw in college that he was struggling with a year ago are not the same struggles that he had. He's fixed a lot of things. So we're very excited about him. Obviously he will acknowledge he still has a lot of things to learn and grow and we're excited to be able to do that with him. I think he's been able to rebuild rapport with his teammates and just the overall just the way he's kind of handled himself has been fantastic. But everything about him is just so much different than a year ago. So we're like I said it's is it happening faster than I think anyone expected obviously under the circumstances.

But he's somebody that's made a drastic improvement from a year ago. Gosh everything that they put into this not just Aaron but the team franchise the fan base and they sold a ton of tickets. The NFL has them on national TV.

So national telecast I think it's 11 times 11 12 times. Although they may end up flexing some of those out depending upon how the season goes. But this is not what the Jets or the league had in mind. And mostly though I feel real crappy for Aaron because I'm sure it's it's devastating.

So here's the deal. We're going to get the latest from Antoine Staley who was there at Roberts press conference and of course was at the game Monday at MetLife. That's coming up top of the hour. And then in the meantime we're going to ask you first of all to vote for TD of the week which does feature the Jets walk off. That's on Twitter and Facebook.

You can also send your questions for Ask Amy anything. We've got history on the line in Major League Baseball. It's a little bit of deja vu too for the Cardinals organization and reaction throughout the night from the far corners of the NFL not just from New York.

It's a three run homer and he hit 699 and 700 at Dodger Stadium on September 23rd, 2022. I won't miss you guys for sure. So I guarantee 100% on that.

110% on that. But I think the memories being around my teammates, the fans, the spring training, the crack of the bat. Every day I think those are things that you miss.

Getting you to the good half of your week. It's the Hump Show on After Hours. Not quite a year ago.

September 23rd. It was a Friday night, wasn't it, Producer J? Because we were not working and I remember we were still paying attention. We were watching because all of Poo Holes at Bats as he got closer to 700 were featured on TV.

And a lot of different outlets you could watch on Twitter, of course, social media. It was so cool as he counted down or up to that magic number. The electricity around each of his at bats. The buzz around each of his at bats. But you may remember earlier in the season, he was nowhere near. He had a brutal first half of the season with the Cardinals last year. And didn't really catch fire until well after the All-Star break. But then had a dynamic month of August and into September. Not only was he hitting home runs, but he was one of their top RBI producers. And so it was an awesome way to cap the 22 season.

And you may remember, toot our own horn here, that I told you all in March. Actually, even going back to the end of the season before when he announced that he would play again and he would go back to St. Louis. I remember because remember he was with the Dodgers for what, like a couple months at the end of the 21 season. And then he decided he would go back to St. Louis for one more year. And he told you it would be one of the stories of the summer if he was in hot pursuit of 700. And now it's been just over a year. I miss him.

Hall of Famer, obviously. We'll see him again. We'll hear from him again. We'll have a few flashes of that megawatt smile.

But yeah, that was so much fun last year. Gosh, we're just 10 days shy of that anniversary. And now you've got another Cardinal. Future Hall of Famer. Maybe. Would you think he's a Hall of Famer?

Maybe. He'll at least be on the ballot. Who is in his final few days as a Major League Baseball player and he's also approaching some rarified territory.

It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio. It's been a rough season for him. But that number, that sweet number, 200, is still within his grasp. Frazier holding the bat right down on the knob, rocking it back and forth, the pitch to the left-handed batter, swung on and missed, he got him. Contreras dropped it, picked it up and tags Frazier out. Wainwright struck out two. Even though he gave up two runs, he kept the lead. We're going to the sixth in Baltimore, 3-2 Cardinals.

John Rooney on Cardinals Radio. And yes, this is a big deal for the Cardinals who have had a brutal season. 17 games below.500 to actually win in Baltimore against one of the top teams in Major League Baseball. And they were able to give Wainwright some run support early, scoring in three of the first four innings. And he did his job.

No, he didn't go deep. It's not the same pitcher he was 10 years ago. And this is just his fourth win of the year. Only his fourth. Can he get one more before the season is done? He allows two runs on seven hits, walks three, strikes out three. Actually, almost threw 100 pitches, but was done after the fifth.

Most importantly, though, picks up win number 199. Today was a big step, getting there. I have three starts left, so not much time. And I knew today would be a really important win for me, if I could get it.

Luckily, we did. Obviously, he hasn't been his best this year, but he's always given full effort out there and always prepared and always competitive. It's always tough at bat, and he did a great job tonight. Paul Goldschmidt, the first baseman, providing a home run in support.

I definitely want to see this for Adam Wainwright. He's one of the good guys. I've always been a fan of the way he carries himself professionally. I like following him on Twitter. He's a bright light. And he's got a huge smile and has played in some of the biggest games that you can imagine on the biggest stages. Now, 42 years old.

Just turned 42 about two weeks ago, so could he get number 200 at 42 years old? He made me cry when I was in middle school. That's pretty crazy to think about. Why?

What happened? He struck out Carlos Beltran on the curveball in 2006 against the Mets in the NLCS. And it was just the most wicked curveball I've still ever seen in my lifetime. I never gave him for that, but great pitcher. Adam Wainwright, one of the nemeses of producer Jay and his sports fandom as a kid.

It's after hours here on CBS Sports Radio. Of course, 300 is a number that's... I mean, that's a sure indicator that you're heading to the Hall of Fame, but there are very few pitchers. In today's realm, in today's baseball who could even get anywhere close to that. Clayton Kershaw right now is sitting on 209 wins. And Max Scherzer is sitting on 214, though I don't know if that includes tonight. So those two guys are both over 200. Zach Greinke is at 224. Justin Verlander is sitting at 255.

But Justin is also 40. There's no way he gets... Well, I shouldn't say that. It's unlikely that he gets to 300. So those are your active pitchers right now that are over 200.

Adam Wainwright can join an exclusive club. But yeah, fewer and fewer guys even get to 200 or sniff 200, much less get to 300. I don't know, Jay, is there a pitcher out there that you think could even spit on 300? 300 wins.

Oh my gosh, there's so many specialty pitchers these days. And with 100 pitches being the magic number where guys just don't go deep anymore. It's tough for guys to, I feel like, hit 200 innings now even in a season.

That used to be like a benchmark. So 300 wins is... I don't think we're really going to get close. Verlander, I don't think is going to do it.

He'll probably finish maybe around 270, 280-something. Even if Verlander chooses to pitch again, he's been really good in stretches. He actually pitched tonight, though, and gave up five runs on eight hits is what I remember. And Oakland beat the Astros in Houston. It's an opportunity for the Rangers to make up some ground, which we'll talk about a little bit later on.

That is still definitely a race. But yeah, Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, two of the active pitchers who were over 200 wins. They were both in action on Tuesday evening, and I really want this for Wainwright. I suspect that the Cardinals will do everything they can, the hitters, I mean, to give him the run support, to try to get him the win. That would be a huge deal.

But how neat is that? We know Yadi and Molina retired after last season, too. So this trio, it's been so critical to this, what, last 20 years of baseball for St. Louis, thinking about the World Series that they won. And so you've got Pujols and Yadi who go out last season, and now Wayno, who is about to retire this year. And I'm rooting for him to get that history.

That would be awesome. You know, I'm just looking at Roy Halliday's stats, who's a Hall of Famer. And he's got almost the same numbers as Wainwright. I mean, Halliday's only got 203 career wins, 2,117 strikeouts, and Wainwright's got 198 wins, 2,196 strikeouts. 199 wins.

199 wins today, excuse me. And then ERA, 354 for Wainwright, and Halliday is 338. So I mean, if Roy Halliday's a Hall of Famer, Wainwright's got numbers that are pretty similar. And Wainwright's got Super Bowl. Did I say Super Bowl before? Oh, sorry, World Series, the football on my brain, you know. All right, so we will continue to discuss that, but mostly let's pull for Wayno this last, what, bit of the stretch run, maybe three weeks to go in the regular season. Now, straightaway, we're just getting started with the NFL, and already the Jets have seen a major, major hit. We'll talk about it with Antoine Staley on CBS Sports Radio.
