That's betterhelp.com slash positive. There's so much happening in sports. It's a lot stuffed into my brain and it's not even officially NFL season yet. It is college football season though.

We had a couple of victories for high profile teams over the weekend like USC and then Notre Dame. Now I would have loved a victory by Navy but Notre Dame manhandled Navy and the Irish are now one of the top 15 teams in the country though of course it's early and these are preseason rankings and they mean a whole lot of nothing but yes college football is back and the NFL is sure to follow just days from now so that's why I'm taking off a long Labor Day weekend getting the heck out of dodge before the rest of America is on the move and then coming back after theoretically the rest of America or most of the rest of America has settled in. I had a chance to ask my fourth and fifth graders at church on Sunday when they're starting school and a bunch of them start Wednesday of this week. There was groaning there were all kinds of noises coming out of their mouths moaning just no grief and pain and sadness that their that their uh year is over but I did ask them it was kind of our fun break the ice question what do you love about the start of school? What's one thing that you love about going back to school? One little girl got super smart and said I love it when the day is over because then the school is done. Okay uh most of them the boys especially said recess and sports a couple little girls really excited about seeing their friends again that they haven't seen all summer and then we were talking to them about bullying what and I didn't ask them how many of you have been bullied specifically I said how many of you have ever witnessed bullying been bullied or said maybe you've been a bully yourself because you don't want to assume that none of them have ever been bullies themselves and so we were talking about what it means to love the people that are mean to you to not respond in kind when people are nasty to you but also how do you protect yourself how do you how do you be smart when it comes to that when it comes to school and a couple little kids opened up and shared their stories but yeah when I asked them about school oh no was the general consensus uh there were a bunch of them though that don't start until the Wednesday or the Thursday after labor day that's that's living the life I guess with your summer course in a lot of the northeast and parts of the country where they don't return to school until after labor day they have to go to school until the third week in June where by that time my mom has already been out of school she's in Texas teaching she's already been out of school for a month she gets out before memorial day weekend so yeah it's it's pick your poison I suppose it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS porch radio many of you are already back into your fall routines quote unquote you're already back into a routine that requires you to wake up early so we are glad to keep you company whatever your routine post some some summertime looks like I am still milking the last minutes of summer I'm still taking advantage of the last vestiges of the summer season it was an incredible weekend to be on the water I went kayaking with a friend on the Susquehanna River she actually has inflatable kayaks which I had not used before they were blown up and ready to go within 15 minutes both of them now these are kayaks that you don't take on open water at least that's the rule but the Susquehanna River is wide we were at lock 15 in case you're wondering there's a dam there and it was wide and has a really busy and active current not to mention there was wind out in the middle so we went diagonally across and down the river and it oh gosh it took almost an hour of steady paddling to get down and across the the base or not the base sorry the um the mouth of this river and it wasn't even really the trying to decide if it was the mouth I'm I don't even know what part we were at we were at lock 15 it wasn't the beginning or the end but what was really neat about the river is that there were parts where it was super wide that was the part that we were traversing and then there were parts where it was meandering and pretty shallow around these rock formations that were out in the middle of the river so that was awesome too the fact that we could kind of explore we didn't really know what was around the other bend so to speak and we had a good time doing that we stopped for lunch underneath the tree and I took a lot of pictures of clouds and and my friend Julie and we really enjoyed our time we were out there for probably four hours and I definitely was tired when we got back didn't really feel anything on Sunday though I slept like a log on Saturday night now do you have the arm muscles that are sore after all of the kayaking so maybe just maybe I'll share a couple more pictures but for now it was my ode to the end of summer still have well more some some summertime weather than I want when I get to Houston on Thursday but it is worth it many wedding things taking place in Houston this weekend lots of planning and Jay this might be my favorite part about the wedding planning taste testing we have we have two taste testing appointments set up so we can officially choose officially choose a caterer for the ceremony or for the reception excuse me and so we get to go and try four different meals from one caterer four different dishes from one caterer and multiple appetizers as well as three dishes from another caterer and apps my mom and her husband are coming too so there will be four of us to eat all that food and here's what's gonna happen I know this and I'm doing it anyway my mother is going to choose different dishes than Bob and I want and we're gonna end up having to well I'm gonna have to tell my mom remind my mom I love you dearly and I know that that your input is important but we're gonna have to compromise here because only one of us is getting married I don't suppose I should say it like that but I didn't pick the food at your wedding so there you go but of course mom is chipping in on the expenses so I have to be kind and gracious and how I say it well you gotta hear her input doesn't mean you necessarily have to well so right so that's the thing and I do appreciate and value her input but if it goes the way that the conversation did about the wedding dress well then we might be at odds because I remember when I asked her if she would go shopping for my dress with me which of course I did when I was in Houston we had fun I felt like a princess for the first time in my life it was pretty amazing anyway as I'm trying on dresses or as we're talking about dresses and we're talking about going for our appointment my I said to my mom can you just promise me to be tactful what do you mean I said mom you are extremely blunt and I appreciate that you don't beat around the bush you just say what you feel but for some reason the negative always comes out first it's always I don't like that or no not that or absolutely not something along those lines and I said could you potentially say something kind first well like what I don't know you like the dress you like the color I look pretty but maybe that's not the right style and she said well don't you want to know what I think yes mom yes I do and I said just for the sake of argument what happens if I like a dress that you don't like would you like to know my mother's response yeah oh that'll never happen never can't even imagine she says that won't happen I'm like oh my gosh my Italian mama true to form always got to give the input which you know what I combined honestly I'm relatively blunt myself I don't sugarcoat I try to speak the truth in love but you know what sometimes I'm sure I come across very abrasive but yes that was her response well what happens if I like a dress that you don't like oh that that won't happen as it turns out the dress that I got the dress that I settled on mom also really likes as well so I'm very happy with the dress mom's very happy with the dress but food is a different animal you know Italian families you're in an Italian family food is a big deal we don't mess around with the food and so here we are about to try all these meals and I just have this fear maybe irrational maybe not that she's gonna like one caterer we're gonna like a different caterer and then if we agree on the caterer then it's going to be oh well I like these meals it's gonna come down to the dish oh no it is or the appetizers it's gonna come down to the appetizers so the different caters that you're trying are they all like different you know um like foods are they are they the same like genre are they well most caterers will make whatever food you want now in Texas most caterers as we found out have the Texas style barbecue type of thing and even though we are doing our reception in a barn we there are no jeans or cowboy boots allowed like you do not get in the door if you're dressed down so I have well we he has a family member who is also getting married like early next year and their wedding the groom will be in jeans and wearing cowboy boots and right and people are going very casually there's Chick-fil-a at the wedding interesting that's not me that's not us that's not what we're doing this is going to be elegant it's going to be beautiful it is going to be fancy there will be no denim and there will be no boots okay I don't care if we are in a barn that's not what we're doing thank you so for that reason we are doing a buffet style dinner but we're doing stations where the servers right they're servers so people are not serving themselves but you can get more or less of a particular food and you go back for seconds if that's what you want as opposed to doing a sit down meal where a lot of times the food is cold the people don't necessarily get to pick what they want right so the way you're doing it yeah thank you and we have our the barn that we're getting that we're doing our reception at has an outdoor covered porch well that's two one covered porch that is the dance floor outdoor dance floor with the fireplace outdoor dance floor with a fireplace in case we need it in December and then the other porch on the side is essentially where the caterer is set up and so there's a big long concrete floor on the porch there and that's where the caterers will serve and so while most Texas caterers do have a barbecue option or a mex mex option we are not doing that we're not doing fajitas we're not doing brisket so a couple of the caterers have offered brisket because we want a carving station but prime rib or that might be a little of our budget but beef tenderloin something along those lines and the the one woman that I spoke to she said well I don't have this but you know what we could do brisket and I said okay I'm sorry this is just I want you to know we're doing fancy we're not doing barbecue so she said oh now that I understand what you're doing okay but yes it has been offered to us if we would like barbecue or if we would like tex mex no we're doing a couple of food options maybe a chicken pasta option and then we'll have a carving station with beef because it's texas so people need to have their beef that sounds perfect and then we're doing if we have if we have it my way which I don't know if we will or not we're doing some type of a loaded mashed potato or I love smashed potatoes where the skins are still on but like loaded up smashed potatoes and then asparagus or something along those lines I will have to wait at some other point and tell you about the desserts because that's my favorite part is that part of the tasting as well no that's something that we're doing as a unique way to involve the family and the friends who will be coming to the wedding actually so I'll say the dessert tale for another show I'm very curious another time maybe ask Amy anything wedding version sounds like an appropriate time would you like to know what Bob asked me on the phone Sunday when will you be doing the wedding edition of ask Amy anything does he want to watch does he want to watch it of course he knows the answers or most of the answers I hope so but he's probably hoping he'll get some info that he doesn't have no he's been very involved in everything except for the dress has not seen the dress will not see the dress his mom's seen the dress his dad's seen the dress pictures I mean he will be the only one of course who will not see the dress beforehand but that is a stipulation and he feels the same way so I don't know if you've been to a wedding or you've seen wedding photos where they do it's called a first look with the photographer before the ceremony now a lot of people do photos before the ceremony now and they don't care whether or not they see each other meaning bride and groom but in this way I'm very traditional I do not want him to see me until I'm walking down the aisle but the photographer will do what he calls a first look where we will stand on we'll stand on two sides of a building probably the barn where we're having the reception and we will not see each other so all approach from one side he'll approach from the other we will not go around the corner we'll not look around the corner instead you have the option of holding hands while you're standing there back to back essentially on either side of this corner and so he's promised now he doesn't he doesn't want to see me either before the wedding but he's promised that he will not look and that whenever I need to to get out of the car well I won't be wearing my dress in the car but whenever I need to get out of the car get dressed whatever it is I need to do he and his his boys will vacate the premises right so there'll be no one around but that photo I'm telling you I trust the photographer I don't know if I trust anybody else like one of us is going to have to already be in place before the other one comes up just because yeah what if there's an accident and somehow he sees me before I walk down the aisle that can't happen not gonna happen that can't happen not gonna happen okay thank you mom not gonna happen I appreciate I appreciate the confidence what am I saying to her hey mom what are the chances that I pick a caterer or some meals that you don't like oh I'm sure that's not gonna happen I like your confidence but you don't understand this is a well you do because you have an Italian mom this is food we don't mess around with food how did your parents do the catering for your sister's wedding the same way you're doing it there was stations so there was a carving station yeah I think there was we were in uh to their wedding was in Tucson Arizona they did have like a fajita ish station they had a carving station and um some something else pasta or something like that but yeah different stations gotcha and was your mom involved in the planning oh she ordained them she she she got married them yeah she um and she oh yeah she was all over it of course she was commandeering the process uh as much as she could just she was allowed I was gonna say because your sister was the oldest and so your sister I don't know if she's type a or not but I can imagine that being the oldest she had some ideas about what she wanted she knew exactly what she wanted okay all right so mom wasn't allowed to push her around no she gave her you know she was always in there like kind of like oh well look at this one yes this one like I got it mom oh but just look at it see exactly and then if I don't agree with my mom's choices there are sometimes these hurt feelings are fine so I have to be very careful about what I do but food is a big deal for Italians so oh man so anyway that's coming up this weekend loads of fun well they did say that the taste test for the food for the wedding was literally their favorite part of the entire wedding I can't wait was testing the food for the wedding so yes I'm not going to eat all day on Friday because yeah that's because we have the taste testing at 315 or something along those lines awesome all right I didn't even intend to go into wedding stuff the rest is going to be saved for a wedding edition of Ask Amy Anything which we will release exactly three months out yeah so coming up in September on the date in which we were three months out from the wedding we will drop that version of Ask Amy Anything on video on our YouTube channel between now and then we'll do a brand new stairway to seven episode in which we count down the seven teams that we think will make the playoffs this year in the NFL that did not make the playoffs last year because you remember roughly half the playoff bracket turns over every year roughly half the playoff bracket so that means seven teams out seven new teams in oh Jay are you ready for this one I am stairway to seven ep four five six no I don't think we're at six five I think we're at five yeah it's our project might be at six it's our favorite really our favorite project someone's gonna have to go to the YouTube channel and check it out after hours with Amy Lawrence all right coming up as I say he's one of the hottest athletes on the planet he's also extremely rich we will hear from Victor Hovland even as the Ryder Cup is the next big thing in golf we've got a little more baseball to mix in as well because it was a vintage moment a classic moment between two 40 year olds how often does that happen in major league baseball rarely not to mention these two have a history and we've got QB news still to come so we'll do that at the bottom of the hour Aaron Rodgers makes his preseason debut actually plays in the preseason for the first time in five years we've also got the anointing of CJ Stroud as the third rookie quarterback who will open up the season as a starter gosh we've got Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott talking about the Cowboys new edition you know we're obsessed with our quarterbacks but we're also days away from the NFL season it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio you are proven winners color choice shrubs are the landscaping plants that have been trialed and tested by expert horticulturists to ensure your success whether you're looking for the hottest hydrangea a reblooming rose or an elegant evergreen you can count on the shrubs in the white containers for easy care curb appeal for years to come there's still plenty of time to improve your landscape this season so head to your favorite local garden center and ask for proven winners color choice flowering shrubs this receiver trio is just is scary and it does start with scary terry himself there he's he's good man and and i i it's just can we get normal quarterback play for this guy right for once in his career because you're right i mean yeah no shade to od is fine to say or heinike but he was literally a backup quarterback in the xfl and he's probably the best player that washington has rolled out at quarterback in terry's you know career subscribe to reception perception available on the odyssey app or wherever you get your podcast listening to the after hours podcast he's the season-long victor just all the hard work that uh i've done and and um just the team that's helped me every single week and uh it's it's just pretty surreal to be standing here right now um you know played basically my best golf the last two weeks and uh couldn't have happened at a better moment this is after hours with amy lawrence the voice of one victor hovland following uh jim nance on cbs the tour championship east lake golf club in atlanta and victor hovland caps it off with the fedex playoff as well as a second consecutive win wowzers that doesn't happen very often on the pga tour especially not with the depth of the competition these are the golfers who survived every week during the playoffs more golfers are eliminated these are the best of the best do you know he beat rory mcelroy who i think finished in fourth place by something like 13 strokes it was crazy the the he won the tournament by five strokes overall though zander schauffele did give him a run for his money toward the end made it maybe a little uncomfortable but victor he was in charge and the last two weeks he's made himself a boatload of money at the tour championship alone 18 million in dollars wowzers it's after hours with amy lawrence on cbs sports radio so the story of victor hovland is pretty interesting he grew up in oslo norway golf is not a big pastime there it's not one of the top hobbies in the country it's more about skiing and ski jumping and hockey of course and so he he picked it up he had a hard time playing because it's not a year-round sport anybody who lives in the northeast or the upper midwest certainly understands that he went to oklahoma state for his college golf and his path being unconventional maybe it took him a little time to get comfortable on the pga tour he came up through what was the corn fairy tour at the time he's also won a bunch of times on the dp world tour the former european world tour european tour so yeah here he is with these two consecutive wins to wrap up the season and the 18 million dollars though he says it will not change his life it's a lot of cash you're playing for i mean it's in your back of the in the back of your mind but i live in stillwater oklahoma um money goes a long ways there it's not like i'm i'm spending money out the wazoo every week i uh i i don't need a lot to be happy i don't need a lot to live within my means um so obviously it's it's nice for you know for my family to have that protection and my you know eventual kids that i'll have in the future it's it's nice to have that but it's not it's not something that drives me it's not something that gives me you know meaning uh i find meaning in other places but obviously with how society works um money is something you need i suppose in varying degrees i'm not sure you need 18 million dollars but hey you have earned it remember last year when the whole live pga feud was at its height the pga tour and its partners determined that they would increase the purses for all of the major tournaments and in some cases that they would add money for some of the other golf tournaments that may be the highest profile or the best golfers in the world wouldn't bother going to because it wasn't quite worth it well now it's worth it and these purses are outrageous but if they've got sponsors and the pga has the funding but therein is the question right there are a lot of people who believe that the pga tour out promised or over promised i should say overextended itself and didn't actually have the money to be able to give these these fat purses to its winning golfers and to increase the purses overall for all the golfers who would play through the weekend at any given tournament that the pga tour promised something it could not deliver which is why it needed the money from the piff fund and the live backers so i i don't know if that's true or not we'll find out but if nothing else the infusion of cash definitely makes a difference for the pga it's after hours with amy lawrence on cbs sports radio so because of his unconventional path when did victor havlin know that he was actually destined to be a really damn good golfer i'm very hard on myself and i felt like even though i had the game to compete i never truly believed it um but after i had a couple of nice finishes in those professional events as an amateur i i started to believe a little bit more i came out on tour i i got my card right away um and kept on just putting up good finishes and that's when i kind of believed that man i i don't have to play my best game and still be up there and still be really competitive um but at the at the time i didn't have all the tools and ever since then i've just kind of improved all the time i've just gotten better and better every single year and uh with that comes to belief and i feel like the belief was the the last missing piece he actually practiced at an indoor golf facility and was only able to play outdoors in norway when there was no snow on the ground and in the winter months it's similar to say alaska where you only have six to eight hours to eight hours of daylight in the winter time that's tough so he would watch videos on guess where producer j youtube youtube he would watch instructional videos on youtube but then in the summertime of course he could play play play play play play play play because he would get 19 to 20 hours of daylight and as i say he competed at oklahoma state which is one of the best collegiate golf programs in the country and started to believe it as an amateur when he could keep up with the field but back-to-back wins in two of the most competitive events on the entire calendar and just as a side note in the last two weeks earned 21.6 million dollars in two weeks not a bad living if you can get it two weeks 21.6 million dollars and now here comes the choice rider cup okay so he's european even though he competed here in the united states this is actually his first win if i remember correctly his first win on us soil so most of his other victories had come elsewhere maybe this year his first wins on us soil right because the the fedex tour fedex playoffs were taking uh were taking place over the last couple weeks so first year in which he gained a us win but he is european which means he's eligible for the european rider cup team and rory mcelroy believes it's a no-brainer if someone came along someone came along to any of us on the team and said okay we're going to put you out with victor today i don't think anyone would say no just put it that way i think four balls foursomes uh you know and it's victor but it's also shay is caddy you know they're a great duo great to get along with you know you know i really enjoyed my my day with them on sunday last week when he when he shot shot the lights out so um yeah the other 11 guys on the european team i don't think would have an issue if they went out with victor he essentially skunked the field uh led the field in pretty much every category that you could the ones that combined to make strokes gain so off the tee on approach around the green and then what he really worked on the last couple years a short game the touch and the short game and the ability to craft shots uh to get up and down even if your tee shots or your approach shots were errant or not where they should be so yeah you can tell the work he's put in and now back-to-back wins on the pga tour which is extremely rare congratulations to victor hotlin and straight ahead aaron rogers plays for the first time in the pre-season in five years we've got a quarterback in texas officially we've also got one in tampa bay where baker mayfield is qb1 yet again and then dak Prescott talks about not just trey lance joining the cowboys quarterback room but also the fact that will greer is the expendable one after their final preseason game this is a lot to talk about coming up next hour we'll give you the update on the the miami dolphin who had to be carded off the field this weekend during preseason it resulted in a suspended preseason game or really they they canceled the rest it happened in the fourth quarter uh so we'll do that plus plus this incredible moment in which a pair of 40 year olds face each other in major league baseball it's after hours with amy lawrence you are listening to the after hours podcast hurry back to throw and it is is it lost oh my goodness the andre hopkins comments back from under center steps back throws the faith cooper touch down la burrow back to throw looking firing deep for chase in the end zone he's got it touch down joe burrow and the bangles lahomes fires for the end zone caught touchdown kansas city and off to echo again no herbert keeps it in so touchdown charges herbert with his second of the day here's the snap josh gonna keep it himself and run it again inside the five into the end zone touchdown buffalo josh yallen nine yard touchdown run the bills respond and then some it's time for qb news on after hours officially we now have three rookies who are starting at quarterback week number one barring any late changes or injuries thanks for joining us we have one one empty sunday still remaining one empty sunday before nfl sunday week one wowsers it's after hours with amy lawrence on cbs sports radio not a big secret but houston has a qb cj will be our week one starter in baltimore it's been over the course of the entire process of ota's training camp preseason games just seeing the complete product and knowing and cj's desire to continue to get better we know we're not where we need to be as a team overall we all have to continue to get better and it's just having the mindset to do that and cj just along with all our other guys know that we have to get better in that regard every day in practice i think i push myself to uh not just um kind of just get away with the easy things and try to push myself make the hard throws make the the hard protection calls or whatever um it's tough so practice is hard so when it comes to the game and it feels like the game and the game slows down for me so i think from ota's now like just everything is slowed down for my footwork has gotten better my uh my eyesight where i start my eyes or i finish my eyes well cj stroud out of ohio state the number two overall pick is the starting quarterback along with bryce young in carolina as well as anthony richardson in indianapolis it's going to be interesting to see which of those qbs separates himself though we know it's it's a wild ride as a rookie quarterback there's so much coming at you all the time so what does cj need to do to be successful at this level i think just being myself is all i need um i don't have to be anything or anybody else i could just be myself and um make make what we're doing comfortable with my shoes and comfortable my skin and um i think i've uh gotten okay with doing that um making the offense mind like how i think about plays and of course try to be on the same page with bobby um but i think uh that's something that i've uh kind of got more used to just being myself as i'm trying to do new things that i'm asked to do so um definitely just being myself bobby slowik is the texans offensive coordinator this season he was with the niners last year of course came over and of course came over with damico ryan's so congratulations to cj welcome to the nfl rookies staying in the afc south it wasn't that long ago that trevor lawrence was struggling through a brutal rookie season right now going into his third year as a pro qb his second with doug peterson oh gosh and his first with calvin ridley which will be a lot of fun but it's a different readiness coming out of the urban mayer year starting fresh with doug peterson that's where they were this time in 2022 but man it's full speed ahead now we've built a lot of chemistry even more in this training camp um you know obviously had a lot with the guys that were here last year and then think me and calvin are just clicking more and more every day so i think it's been really great we've gotten some great work in um i like the direction that we're heading just gotta keep getting better every day you know it's such a long season you just gotta get better every day every week it is a long season remember the jaguars started out pitifully it was rough and then they put together a surge over the second half of the year and actually ended up winning the afc south so they are a team to watch this year depending upon who you listen to but i think most analysts and insiders would tell you the jaguars are poised to keep that grip afc south now in the east it's wide open maybe one of the toughest divisions in football aaron rogers he's changing it up this year he's in new york he's wearing a different number he's also playing in the preseason and had a touchdown and the metlife crowd was raving there's always uh some butterflies when you step out there for the first time but uh i loosened up pretty good when i got the ovation when i took the field that was a special moment um just to you know have that kind of support taking the field for that tv time out that's pretty special it was jets and giants at metlife so the crowd was split but yeah pretty cool with all of the anticipation the energy i can't help but think about russell wilson with denver last year i'm not saying it's going to go the same way only that the feel around the broncos was the same they were so jazzed up to have what they considered to be one of the top quarterbacks in the nfl they gave him a fat contract before he ever played a snap that counted and we'll see if aaron rogers can actually lift the jets the way that he is expected as robert solid tells us he glows in the freaking dark all right you're gonna have to compete with josh allen and the buffalo bills because right now they are the defending champs and they are the big bads in the afc east and allen says the closer they get to actual kickoff the more he feels that intensity with the team as we ramp up going into the season um making sure that we're getting that feeling and understanding like on game day we gotta we gotta be ready to go and just you know we weren't really sure how long we were gonna play today um so we were expecting to play quite quite a bit and i think guys just having that mindset of like going out there like all right we're here let's get some work we will hear from the miami dolphins about daywood davis but that's coming up a little bit later on uh just because it was a scary moment for the dolphins and so that's their focus coming out of the final game of the preseason though the good news is he's out of the hospital he's in concussion protocol it's after hours with amy lawrence here on cbs sports radio shifting to cleveland the browns i actually saw a guy at church wearing a browns warm-up jersey yesterday he's gonna fight dashawn watson well it's his chance to start out again finally the start of a season as qb1 and to make the position his own and he feels like he's got a special skill set i play a little different style than most quarterbacks i think it's starting to you know come in the nfl you know you got mahomes and lamar and guys like that it can move outside the pocket too but you know when i get outside the pocket i'm not really looking to pretty much run you know i'm looking downfield so you know i think teams got to respect the the legs and once they step up you know the idea is to have somebody go deep and get a big play so whatever i can do to continue to stay in place and make it positive is good the guy who used to hold the job in cleveland is baker mayfield this is his third straight season in which he will start the opener for a different team so from cleveland to carolina last year to tampa this year but he believes the bucks offense has great potential i feel extremely comfortable where we're at offensively right now and i think i think you guys saw the kind of groove that dave got into play calling wise and not just dave but everybody understanding that the flow of our game what we're trying to get accomplished i think we could have run 20 play action keepers and but we wouldn't have gotten any run in the work game so um just we did everything all the little things right today uh and on that second drive especially so uh we just gotta capitalize later in the game on and finishing in the end zone instead of field goals and uh but yeah it was uh it was a good outing for us man their offense was so so awful at the beginning of last year and still i don't know what to expect with the buccaneers that was with tom brady i don't know what to expect but the o-line this season it was so bad last year boy all right nfc south wide open we talked about atlanta on our thursday night show into friday morning if you missed it it's on our podcast posted every weekday morning to both twitter and facebook let's talk about jordan love nfc north what is he still working on before the season kicks off consistency yeah i'm just being consistent you know for myself and his offense as a whole um you know we gotta when we get the opportunity to make big plays we gotta make them um and it just comes down to consistency every day practice it's going to translate to the games it's another intriguing question about not just the division as a whole the nfc north which is also wide open but jordan love can he follow in the footsteps after three years of training taking over for aaron rogers in the nfc east where there were three playoff teams last year we've got a new quarterback trey lance gets traded from the niners to the cowboys on friday it was that friday news dump but it meant that will greer the backup qb was expendable he went out there in the final preseason game and he crushed it but then got released mixed emotions um but um i thought it went well what was kind of your mindset coming into tonight knowing that it's it's kind of a show and tell game for you but also it's a bittersweet moment yeah bittersweet man i uh just close with a lot of these guys that's the that's the hardest part what have the last 36 hours been like for you uh it's been tough but i've been through tougher stuff um got a lot of respect for this organization and the jones family i understand that it's a business at the end of the day and i respect that and uh the hardest part on me is just um leaving this place to be honest just uh got really close with the team and um that's the toughest part about what we do that's who will is that's who will's been from the time that he's been here and um it was awesome that he got to go out there and put that performance on display and i hope the rest of the world the rest of the league saw that and took notice my mccarthy dag press got not consulted before this move by jerry jones to trade for tray lands a fourth round pick but here's coach mccarthy weighing in i just think like all these these decisions you know there's history um there's evaluation and there's value that you place on it and all the feedback was extremely positive so and and then also when you do get in these in these spots especially for a player as young as he is um i think it's important to trust your trust your grades you know trust trust your evaluation process coming up next hour we'll hear a little more from kyle shanahan and john lynch about this trade that essentially ended what was a really risky plan because tray lands didn't have a lot of time on the football field as a quarterback and yet they thought that it would work even as recently as a few weeks ago thought that tray lance would still be part of their qb room and then abruptly that changed sam darnold beat him out for number two and tray became a cowboy within a few days of that announcement so now tray is one of the backups to dak press got and rock purdy who we already knew was qb1 in san francisco he talks about what trade meant to him in their time together it's after hours with amy lawrence cbs sports radio the official winning time podcast from hbo is back i'm rodney
