Happy Monday here on After Hours | Mariners complete a sweep of the Astros | A scary moment on the football field in Patriots/Packers on Saturday.

It feels like it's been a while since we've gotten together like this, but actually my weekend away from radio was shorter than it typically is by a good 12 hours.

For those of you who missed me on Thursday night or Friday morning, I was hosting a different time slot, so filled in for Maggie and Perloff on what was Friday afternoon. And I was so like a fish out of water. I was flopping and flipping around. It was very uncomfortable, especially when they put the show on YouTube. Okay, it wasn't that uncomfortable. It's just radio. It's the same studio.

I've been doing shows out of this studio for the better part of 11 years now. So it wasn't that uncomfortable, but it is different when you are completely the opposite of your typical schedule. And this was 12 hours time difference from what I normally do. And so I missed you all on Thursday night, but did have a much briefer weekend. It was strange. Yeah, not getting home until 715 on Friday afternoon. I don't know how I feel about that.

For now, the answer is the same as it always is. No, I'm not changing time slots. I just filled in, just doing a favor to the manager who asked me to be here and to host the show because Maggie and Andrew were on vacation. So yeah, it was kind of funny to have not just my family and their family group chat as they're all listening to me in the afternoon, but my significant other. Oh, can I say it? My fiance. I don't get to say that very often. I'm still trying it on for size.

It feels strange coming out of my mouth. And then there are times when I go to talk about him and I get stuck among boyfriends, significant other, fiance, hubs to be. I'm not really sure what to call them these days.

So I call them all kinds of things. Anyway, I know that he thought it was hysterical to be able to watch and listen in the moment. Even to the point where, get this Jay, he was driving home from work watching on his phone. I'm like, babe, that is not safe at all.

We are still on the radio. Well, I needed to be able to see what was going on. No, you don't. You don't need to be able to see me while you're driving. So yes, breaking the law, breaking the law. I always, well, I guess, and stupidity, I always tease him because he's a rule follower, whereas I am typically a rule breaker more than I'm a rule follower.

And so I was giving him crap because he was breaking the rules. And what would you do if you get pulled over because you're, well, you're driving erratically, you're crossing the center line, or maybe somehow the police officer notices that you're watching a video on your phone, pulls you over, asks you what you're doing. Do you think he would have dropped, I'm trying to figure out if Bob is this kind, would he have dropped the, well, you know, I'm marrying a national radio host and this is her show. Look, that's what I would do in that situation.

I'd go with the pure Aussie card, say, Hey, I'm watching my, my fiance. Would you name drop? You would name drop? Yeah. Oh, Jay. Get you out of it. No, get you out of it.

I just lost all respect for you. No name dropping. Come on. You've got to be able to play that card.

You've got to be able to play that card. Funny stuff. Well, by now, you know, the cat is out of the bag and I did in fact share it with you on Thursday morning, Thursday morning. Yes, Thursday morning I got off the air and it was August 17th on Thursday, which was exactly four months until the day I have the honor of walking down the aisle to become a Mrs. I cannot wait. So thankful that I finally met the love of my life. It's it's been a long time. I've waited a long time.

And so I shared that news finally on the show, but it was quick here on Thursday morning and then also on social media. And I need to say thank you. I am so sorry that I cannot respond to the hundreds of messages I've gotten, but I am very grateful.

You all are very kind. I know I tell you that I read every tweet and every Facebook message. There may have been a few that slipped through the cracks because when I woke up on Thursday afternoon, my phone had it had turned into an alien. I couldn't even I couldn't even keep up with my personal texts and emails. And not to mention I had phone calls.

And so it was really difficult to also get through social media. But I do believe that I've read most of them overwhelmed by the fact that you're sharing my joy and excitement. Now, some of you have very strange wedding advice, very strange life advice. Who knew that Twitter was such a marriage expert? Who knew?

Twitter is an expert. Everything. Everything.

Oh, my goodness. All kinds of advice I'm getting already. I feel like you all are my grandparents, my old aunts and uncles. So lots of advice, but also many of you just sharing your congratulations and a little bit of your own story.

The number of people I've heard from who either have just gotten married or are about to get married themselves. Really cool. And then many questions. You all have so many questions, one of them being where are the photos?

Some dodos actually think that I'm making it up, that if there are no photos, it's just a sham. Isn't that crazy, Jay? Could you imagine? I mean, you know me.

We've been pretty tight now for a couple of years. I couldn't even pull it off if I tried, but also I would never, never make up something like that. If I was going to do it, I would have done it years ago. Oh, my gosh.

Why would I wait until now to do it? Come on here and talk about it. That would be quite the act to put on. Oh, my goodness. I couldn't fake this type of joy and anticipation if I tried. I even was thinking to myself after church on Sunday, goodness, maybe I should stop walking around showing people. Because people are coming up to me in my church and asking me, how are you? Congratulations.

And then I'll flash the very shiny ring that Bob did all by himself. And I think maybe that's a little bit obnoxious. I don't want to be so happy that I'm obnoxious. So I'm trying not to be obnoxious about it. You have time to be obnoxious. You got like a few months to kind of be obnoxious phase.

I think it's fair. OK, well, thank you. It'll wear off after maybe a week or two. But the ring was gone for two weeks because I had to get it sized. It was I was wearing it on my middle finger. It was way too big. And so I had to get it sized and took it to the jewelers and was very anxious to get it back. Really neat. I had no idea that this was how it's done these days, but it really meant a lot to me.

Apparently, so that. Diamond stores, jewelry stores, diamond outlets can. Assure you that it's your diamond, that it's certified, that they haven't replaced it or hasn't been replaced while it was out of your possession. There's actually a serial number on the diamond, but you cannot see it unless you're looking through a microscope. And so the man who took it from me two weeks ago to size it assured me because I asked, how will I know?

I said to him, I'm sorry, this is not a criticism of you or your store or your outlet. Of course, I want to believe that nothing will happen to it. But how do I know for sure that this is the same ring when I get it back and the same diamond, same stone? And so he actually said, you bring it when you come back to get it, we'll bring it out of the microscope and we will show you the serial number that matches a card that that Bob received when he purchased it.

It is pretty amazing. It's tiny. You would think a number you'd be able to see it, but it's so tiny.

It's imprinted on the stone in a way that you can only see it through a powerful microscope. Wow, that's pretty genius. Yeah, it was. And I appreciate the fact that they showed me. He asked me to come behind the counter and look through the microphone. Oh, ha ha. This is the microphone, the microscope.

So that was pretty cool as well. So, yes, you all are full of advice. You're full of anticipation. You're full of exuberance. The other questions I keep getting, which, you know, we have asked Amy anything that comes up in the middle of the week.

I'm not sure I should jump the gun here. The other questions we have have been receiving frequently. Will I be moving? And he lives in the Houston area.

Will my radio schedule be changing? And then also the other question that I get that's pretty of I think it's pretty funny is why are there any photos? OK, well, first of all, not everything needs to be on social media. Obviously, I waited until the opportune moment to share the news with you. It's not like I haven't known for a bit. And my family and friends needed to hear it from me, not over social media, which is why it took me several weeks, actually over a month, to be able to put the news out there on social or share it on my show, which was challenging for me because you all know that I have I have shared many of the significant moments in my life.

My Grammy and losing her being one that's more recent. But I share a lot of things with you. The craziness of moving during a pandemic. Oh, it's as much fun as it sounds. Buying my first house.

Stupid yard work. I mean, my family challenges the travels, all these things I share with you. I'm pretty open with you about, oh, how I nearly died at a Thanksgiving recently because I was choking on a shrimp.

That's nothing compared to what happened on Friday night, which I will I'll tell you about anyway. I'm pretty open. And so it was challenging for me to keep it to myself and not share it with you. But I needed to do that because my family and friends deserve direct contact. They deserve a phone call.

In many cases, I'd just been nonstop phone calls, text messages, emails. I needed to let some of my elderly family members know what elderly my family members who are seniors that don't do social media. I needed to make sure I connected with the people that will be at the wedding and the people that matter to me before I put it out there on social or on my radio show. So thank you for understanding that. I do appreciate your congratulations.

As for the photos, I haven't decided yet. I'm not putting a photo of my ring on social media. How pretentious is that?

I'm sorry. I know there are people out there who do it. But if you have 30 followers, it's different than when you have 50,000 plus. It feels, I don't know, it feels icky to me to put a piece of jewelry out there on social media. Like I'm flaunting it or something. I'm just not real comfortable with that. And so no, there's not going to be a picture of my ring on social media and not even on my personal Facebook page. And just so you know, I haven't put a photo of he and I together on my personal Facebook page either.

I'm just not to that point yet. Again, family and friends know I text them photos directly. But you all, if you listen to the show long enough, you understand how I feel about social media.

I despise it. And this is something so special and so personal to me that I don't know yet if I'm going to use any photos and put any photos out there. It's not that I don't want you to share in this experience. And I certainly will start to tell you some of the funnier stories around wedding planning. We're putting the wedding together relatively quickly.

I guess quickly compared to what most people do. Because I've got friends who plan weddings over a year out. In some cases, depending upon the age of the couple that's getting married, you're talking about 18 months to 24 months out in planning a wedding. That's too long to wait, in my opinion. But also, we're older and we don't have any desire to wait.

The wedding is one day and it's going to be a really sweet, intimate celebration with family and friends. But we don't want to wait. We care more about starting our life together than we do about the actual wedding day. And so for that reason, we're putting it together pretty quickly. But you know I'm organized like nobody's business.

I'm anal retentive when it comes to it. And so everything's falling into place. And yes, we are inside of four months. I am sure at some point, maybe after the wedding, which is right before Christmas, I will share a photo.

Maybe it's just me on wedding day. Maybe there's a really cool photo from our photographer that I would love to share with you. But you know that I don't share a whole lot of photos of my family. Every now and then, a pic with mom. I did share photos with my Grammy Helen, mostly because I felt like she was insulated, not on social media. So it really couldn't touch her. And because she was my superhero when I wanted to talk to you about her and the lessons that I learned from her.

And you all came to love her too. Penny, you get more pictures of my dog than you do of my family. So I don't know. I don't know if I'll ever get to the point where I'm ready to share photos. Maybe. Maybe at some point. But right now, it's precious to me and it's personal.

And I want to keep some parts of my life private. So I hope that you understand that. But thank you because you all are, yeah, you're so generous with your kindness and your happiness for me. And I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that I was completely blown away by the response. And that it's been sweet.

It's been really sweet to hear from people all over the country who care about me, not just as a radio host, but care about me as a person as well. And man, I have waited for a long time. So I plan to sing it from the rooftops. Though, obviously, we're going into football season. I keep trying to warn him, we are going into football season. So you best get everything out that you need to say to me right now. Because we're going to have limited time. You think I'm busy now. You think it's hard to do long distance now. Oi, long distance sucks.

You think it's hard and a challenge to keep up the relationship now and to make time. Just wait until football season starts. Get me some more shit. Oh no. So anyway, for those of you who watched on YouTube or listened on CBS Sports Radio, when I was hosting on Friday for Maggie and Perloff, thank you. I got many of your comments and also people who had not heard the show before. Oh, kind of funny, Producer J.

Listen to this. I think his name was Peter or Percy. It was a P name. Percy's a great dog name, I kind of think, if you have a male dog. Yeah, I like it. I like it. Percy Perry.

It's a little fufu, but it's very erudite. Maybe I'll name my next dog Percy. Nah, no I won't.

Ovi. Well, because I only like girl dogs. I only ever get girl dogs. The boys pee on too many things.

Why do they have to pee everywhere? Percy could be a girl maybe. It could be. I like Ovi though. I forgot about our chocolate lab named Ovi. I suppose I should ask Bob how he feels about another big dog. His dog is a little bitty. Well, she's a runt and she's a mini, so for that reason she turned out to be a lot smaller than she was supposed to be. A mini runt. Oh, she's a mini runt. Yes, and Daisy is crazy.

Crazy Daisy, seriously. I don't know how she and my cat are going to get along, because I'm pretty sure that Sugar is... Sugar and Daisy are sisters. They're sisters from another mother. They happen to be different animals, but they are exactly the same.

High strung, high maintenance, just crazy. How do you think they'll get along? How do you think they'll mesh?

I think they'll be jumping on a lot of furniture. Great. Fantastic. Yeah, there's a lot of adjustments about pets, because Bob allows Daisy all over the furniture. Yeah, there you go. In fact, Daisy sleeps in the bed with Bob. There you go.

Well, no. Sugar's going to want to be on the bed. Oh, so that's the deal. When we get married, we're going to have a pet-free bed, so I don't... Yeah, Sugar's going to have trouble, but so is Daisy. I mean, it's just a compromise we have to make. There's only so much room in this bed. Daisy's not going to like that.

No, neither is Sugar. It is one of the compromises that we made, one of the agreements we made pre-marriage. So yeah, there's lots of funny stuff to tell, and again, thank you. You all have largely been so supportive and so happy for me, which is adding to my joy. You can find me on Twitter, ALawRadio, on our Facebook page too.

It's always good to connect with you. Coming up, we had a scary moment for the New England Patriots and the Green Bay Packers, and you wonder how much the DeMar Hamlin situation affected ultimately what took place on the field. We've got a bunch, and I mean a bunch, of fallout from weekend number two in the preseason. Did you know that the Saints and Chargers played a game just a few hours ago at SoFi Stadium despite an oncoming tropical storm slash hurricane, despite potential flooding and lightning, and then an earthquake, just for fun, mixed in, an earthquake. So there's a lot happening. We're going to head to New Orleans coming up in, we'll call it 45 minutes, because our friend Ross Jackson has been covering the game late, and not only working on his podcast, but had a TV appearance. And then us, he will join us to talk about the Saints and this new look offensive system with Dennis Allen and Derek Carr. We've got a lot in Major League Baseball, a couple of milestones, but wah wah wah moments, a couple of American League contenders theoretically getting swept over the weekend, and did you all see what happened in Cincinnati this weekend? Good stuff, can't wait to dive into what we saw, what we heard, the last three nights that I was without your company and you were without mine, but all is right, we are back together on After Hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio.

You are listening to the After Hours Podcast. Here it comes. And that is ripped down a left field line hooking, will it stay fair?

Yes it will, into the corner. Altuve racing the second, the throw in by Marlowe, the slide, and Altuve is out. But it is hit number 2,000 for Jose Altuve in his big league career. Altuve gets the baseball from Eugenio Suarez, and maybe the only time you ever see a player get a standing ovation, getting thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double. Altuve tips his helmet to the crowd. Plenty of high fives as he gets to the dugout. 2,000 hits for Jose Altuve.

This is After Hours with Amy Lawrence. If that were the biggest story of the weekend for the Houston Astros, maybe there'd be a lot more reaction postgame on Saturday and Sunday. But congratulations to Jose Altuve, just the third in Astros franchise history, to reach 2,000 career hits.

That's the end of the show. You reach 2,000 career hits. That's Robert Ford on the Astros radio network. So you had a leadoff single in the fifth against the Mariners on Saturday, but then was thrown out trying to stretch that single into a double. The crowd was waiting full of anticipation, except the crowd in Houston got more than what it bargained for in this weekend series against the Mariners. Here's the pitch on the way. Swing and a high fly ball deep to left field.

This one is way out of here, and goodbye baseball. Up around the tracks up there and straightaway left field, Eugenio Suarez with his hands like a binocular is looking out of that direction. A two-run blast by Suarez, his 18th home run of the season. Brown set, his pitch. Swung and cracked on the third baseline.

It's past Bregman, and it's rolling to the corner. Scoring from third base is Canzon. Rojas right behind him.

He scores. O'Keefe into second base, a double down the line. The Mariners add two more. It is 6-0 Mariners.

Welcome back to the show, Brian O'Keefe. On Mariners radio, this is a tale of two teams going in opposite directions. So the Mariners rally. Well, they rally. They post a 6-0 lead.

They rally for that. And the Astros did manage to make this slightly uncomfortable. However, the Mariners hang on for a one-run win, and that's their sixth consecutive victory. They are 8-2 against the Astros this season, which is a big piece of why they pulled within just a half game of Houston in the American League West standings.

Now, they're both still looking up at the Texas Rangers. We'll get to them straightaway because they've dropped four consecutive games. But yeah, here are the Mariners.

They're hard charging. They've won six in a row, seven of their last ten. Meanwhile, the Astros have dropped three straight. The Rangers have dropped four in a row. So that division is now completely up for grabs.

It's after hours with Amy Lawrence here on CBS Forge Radio. We know about the Orioles and Rays fighting atop the east. The winner of that division will maybe, probably, have the top seed in the AL playoff bracket.

But the other team will end up being the number one wild card, barring some crazy developments over the final five weeks of the regular season. Right now, Astros and Mariners are the next two wild cards in the AL. The Blue Jays are in hot pursuit. They're just a half game out. And don't look now, but the Red Sox are making a charge too. There's a lot still that has to be decided in the American League. But what is different about this Astros team is that A, the Mariners have their number, and B, after getting swept, they had such a sense of urgency that they called a team meeting and did not want to speak to the media.

Instead, hashed it out behind closed doors. It doesn't feel good, but they were playing good ball, and they got everything that they needed the whole weekend. You know, homers, two out, hits.

We knew they were hot coming in here. We didn't play especially well. We played well enough, probably, to win the game today. The deficit was a little big, but we still had opportunities. Martine Maldonado, who's the veteran catcher and one of the guys who's been on this team the longest, said it's one of the most disappointing parts of the season.

He actually said this is a slap in the face and a wake-up call. So yeah, the Mariners pulled within a half game of the Astros in the AL West. Love what the Mariners are doing. I know they put themselves in quite the hole in the first half of the season, but they do have the experience of having the last two years. I know this past year was when they ended their playoff drought, which was the longest in the four major professional sports. So yeah, they had the benefit of making the postseason last year. But even the year before that, do you all remember? They came up short of the postseason by, and I don't remember exactly how much it was, a half game, a game, and it was a race all the way through the late stages of the 21 campaign. And they came up to short, but they still had the benefit of a playoff chase, of working to get into that stretch where they were feeling the sense of urgency and facing games that mattered on a day in and day out basis.

Yeah, we found the Martine Maldonado. He says they have to stop focusing on who's playing, who's in the other dugout, but fix their own issues. I think for our end, I think it should be slap in the face.

I would say wake up call. So I think we got to go out there and play better, better energy, and don't be satisfied because you're just playing the game. We got to go out there and win the game. If there's going to be a voice that they listen to in their clubhouse, it's going to be some of these guys who have been part of the World Series runs.

I know trash cans and all. But there are a couple of them here that have two rings now. And Maldonado is in a position where he's caught a couple of no hitters, right?

It's important that the leadership steps up. So this is when the Astros get squeezed, and this is how we find out what they are made of. Of course, in the American League, there is some misery to go around among contenders or teams that thought they were contenders.

I know the AL East is a beast, but the Yankees, they're a mess. Here is the 1-0 to Volpe as runners lead. Pitch is lined to right and deep, and that ball is gone. It's a three-run home run by Volpe. What a big hit for the Yankees.

The Fox sucks one to right, and the game is tied at five. Here's the pitch. Swing and a line drive down the right field line.

It's a fair ball hitting on the grass, rolling into the corner. Reyes has scored. Devers to third.

He's held there, and Turner has done it again with an RBI double in the Red Sox. Take a 6-5 lead. Now the 1-2. A fly ball to center.

Back goes Duval, and he makes the catch. Ball game over. Boston wins.

We're playing better right now, so we've just got to be ready for Houston. It's not about the Yankees. It's not about the Jays or the Rays. It's about whoever we have to play, we've got to keep playing good baseball. So the end result in this one is that the Red Sox sweep the Yankees. And New York falls further below.500, but first on Boston.

Winners of eight in their last 11. They get a run in the ninth inning. This is in the Bronx on Sunday on a Justin Turner RBI double, and he had one earlier in the game as well. So Turner, you want to talk about a guy who's been in these pressure cookers with World Series and playoff games on the line because of his experience with the Dodgers.

He's a valuable asset in that Red Sox lineup. And so they get that run. They go ahead. They win. They drop the Yankees now to an eight-game losing skin. In fact, since early June, the Yankees are 15 games below.500. And they can't seem to buy a win even when they feel like late.

So, for instance, Anthony Volpe has what is a home run in the seventh inning of this one. They feel like they're getting close. They can't hang on.

The past stretch has obviously been a blow for everything. So we showed value. We went down. We fought back. Had good A.B.

's all 27-ounce. I thought we played well. So we're just going to carry that after the off day in the next series. We got to be unbelievable the rest of the way. So it's not even about that. It's about coming to try and win a game Tuesday.

And then all of a sudden you start stacking and then an amazing thing happens. But we're so far removed from that right now. Good point. We got to get a win first.

Yeah, good point. We got to get a win first and then maybe we can talk. They are still within, what did you call it earlier on the phone, Jay? Spitting distance? Spitting distance.

They are within spitting. Who's spitting? Are you a camel? Is it a camel or a llama? Which one spit? Camel, I think. Camels definitely spit. We need to find some audio of a spitting camel. I could do that. How great would that be?

You just let me know when you find it there on the internets. So the Yankees are within spitting distance but really they're falling so far behind that it's not just about the fact that they're, I mean they are, I don't know, is spitting distance nine games out? They're within shouting distance. I wouldn't say they're within spitting distance anymore, Jay. Yeah, that's a little far.

Alright, so the Yankees are nine games out of that third wild card but the issue is that they have three other teams between them and what is now the Mariners in that third place spot. Do we find a spitting camel? I'm so ready. Stop it. Oh my gosh, it sounds like a gross man hocking a loogie. Oh no! Never use that again! That is awful! Oh that's so disgusting! Oh no, no!

You just ruined my whole night. That's just, that's so gross. It's bad enough when you hear someone go, I can't, I can't spit so I'm not a spit person.

I will cop to a farmer's blow every now and then when I'm running a half marathon and I don't have any choice but spitting is just, I mean even if you're a camel, can you not turn away? Oh no! That's so gross!

It sounds like he's throwing up. Speaking of that, wait until I tell you my story from Friday. I nearly died at Cheesecake Factory.

Okay, on that note, thank you for all of your tweets, A-Law Radio. Jay's incredulous, he can't believe I'm ending the segment right there. That segue from the camel sphincter, I almost died at the Cheesecake Factory. It does, it sounds like the poor camel is sick or something. Okay, stop it now, why did I ask you to do that?

Thank goodness the song is not I want a camel for Christmas. Oh my. And now I do.

No, no you don't, that's disgusting. They can't all sound like that. I mean.

I thought maybe it was like a. I can't confirm or deny that that's actually how it sounds. That's just YouTube camel spits sound effects. So, I mean I'll look at other ones here in the break. What are we doing with YouTube?

Really, what are we doing? It's only got 246 views. Oh my god, I think it's not really. Wait, can you actually see the camel or it's just the sound effect? No, it's just the sound effect. Okay, we need one where we can see the camel.

Alright. Otherwise that could just be some dude who's putting a video together and throwing up and says it's a spitting camel. That's what we need, we need the video or it didn't happen.

Okay, stop it, see it sounds like a human. It does. Somebody actually responded to me on social this weekend and said pecs or it didn't happen. That's what I'm saying. Like people are telling me I'm not actually engaged or getting married if there's no photos.

I feel like that's rather insulting. But, but in this case I need the camel to be verified. I need a verified camel if you will. Okay. I'm on it. You're on it?

Alright. Coming up top of the hour we'll talk about the New Orleans Saints second preseason game, but in LA with all kinds of weather challenges. And so we're glad to connect with you as we start another work week. Do you know this is the last full week, last full week until we have a holiday week, which is Labor Day, right? And then, because a lot of people take off early on Labor Day, they'll take off Thursday, they'll make it their last vestiges of summer. So our last full normal quote unquote, whatever that is a week of the summer before we get to Labor Day weekend. And then after that, whoa, football. The NFL season kicks off two weeks from Thursday.

Jay's about to spit like the camel. It's after hours, CBS Sports Radio. Hi, this is Shannon Storms-Bedor, Real Housewife of Orange County and entrepreneur. That's the updated information that we have. I appreciate the way the league handled it. I think that was the right thing to do. And, you know, also saying a prayer for some of our players with their close friends and relatives in Hawaii that are going through some stuff out there. So, you know, that's really the bigger picture of it here. You know, kind of regroup and talk about the game later, but that's kind of where things are for right now.

This is After Hours with Amy Lawrence. The statement from Bill Belichick immediately after the preseason game between the Patriots and the Packers, and it was canceled in the fourth quarter because of what was a helmet to helmet collision with Patriots rookie Isaiah Bolden and a fellow teammate. And it is scary as you watch the replay to see the collision. And it was incidental, of course. It was even from the side, which as he was kind of coming across from, I guess, the middle of the field, he collides with another teammate and drops immediately.

So, yeah, scary moment. Athletic trainers, medical staff, they rush to his aid as he's laying there prone on the field. And I think in light of what's happened in more recent months with DeMar Hamlin and seeing that video, but also recognizing how close he was, that this had nothing to do with DeMar Hamlin and his medical condition. Not the same thing, but just the the jarring nature of seeing a teammate lying down on the field dropping and not moving is scary. And we know that players will encounter this over the course of a season. We know that there will be moments where the game is stopped and even stretchers and ambulances brought out.

Medical personnel are attending to a teammate. Guys will get down on one knee. They'll rally. We'll even have opponents from the two respective teams together praying or kind of supporting, encouraging one another in is a moment.

What is the moment that could affect any one of them at any point? And so in this case, as the game is stopped, you could see both Bill Belichick and Matt LaFleur standing together and, of course, conferring with members of the NFL, NFL officials and deciding that ultimately the rest of the game should be called off. I really appreciate what Coach Belichick did tonight.

You know, he took the initiative on that. And this is not the AFC championship. We're not playing for records.

This is preseason game, too. And we have an injury like that, you know, it affects a lot of guys in a lot of different ways. And clearly our team was shaken by what happened. And I think Coach made the right decision. I think, you know, that was tremendous leadership by him. And I have to say, honestly, that was one of the proudest moments I've had as a guy who's played for him for now 16 years to see what he did. And there was no hesitation. And, you know, I appreciate Coach LaFleur as well for, you know, standing with him on that. I think everybody acted swiftly. And, you know, it was the right call in this situation. When we were both out there and, I mean, it was obviously anytime you see somebody getting carted off like that, it's a tough situation to witness. And you could see, you know, the care for that young man with his teammates and, you know, the coaches and just felt like that was the right thing to do. Matthew Slater, who's the longtime captain of the Patriot special teams, talking about not just his coach and how much he appreciates that Bill Belichick kept perspective in that moment and even says, hey, this is not the AFC championship game. It's a game that doesn't matter.

It's an exhibition. And in light of the impact, the emotional impact that a moment like that has on football players, again, even thinking back to Damar Hamlin, completely different thing. Damar had cardiac arrest and in this case it was an injury that was sustained in the course of a game where it happened to be a collision. But for a young cornerback, a rookie in Isaiah Bolden, to be immobilized so that he can get on a stretcher and they can cart him off the field, it's scary in and of itself regardless of how it happened. And Bolden did post on social media Sunday, thankfully.

He appreciates the prayers, more excited to be back with the guys. Here's the latest from Ian Rappaport on NFL Network. Certainly the situation has changed in the NFL. When you have situations like this, certainly scary, a lot of tense moments brought everyone back, of course, unfortunately, to the Damar Hamlin situation from last year.

And the fact that this game was called off where it was seems to be an indication of some progress. First, the good news on Isaiah Bolden, the seventh rounder from Jackson State. My understanding is he is back with the team, back at the team hotel, woke up with a headache today but is doing well in good spirits. Of course, everyone saw last night him colliding with teammate Calvin Munson attempting to tackle a Packers receiver very quickly, immobilized here on a stretcher, was taken to Aurora Bay Medical Center. At that point, when the gravity of the situation became clear, Belichick and Malefor called the game as it stood right there. Pretty quickly, the team announced he had feeling in all his extremities, very good sign, stayed the night at the hotel, was able to travel back with the team, also a good sign. However, based on essentially what the team was dealing with, the Patriots canceled the joint practices with the Titans. They'll work out before the preseason game. Ian Rappaport on NFL Network from a few hours ago Sunday afternoon, so that you had the latest.

He had all the feeling in his extremities. Isaiah Bolden himself took to social media. He traveled with the team, though the Patriots did call off their joint practices with the Titans, just out of precaution, I think still, to recognize what's more important here, to be mentally focused and locked in. If they're shaken, if they need a break, if they need to just kind of remember what's important and why they play the game, and also to be thankful for the leadership they have, that's significant. All right, we're gonna talk Saints and Chargers next after our CBS Sports Radio.
