Anchorman. For the last time, if you put it on the propter, Burgundy will read it. For the last time, anything you put on that propter, Burgundy will read. Just for clarification purposes, I do not have a teleprompter, but someone handed me this script and said you need to read this.
Well, I didn't reread it, and I didn't really know what I was reading, and so, you know, let's strike that from the record. Just call me. 60% of the time, it works every time. Well, that was some quality radio. Quality audio for your listening pleasure. Hello, Edwards. Ron, I've got to fire you. Well, I've got to fire you. Bing, bong, bong. You're fired, Ed.
This is After Hours with Amy Lawrence. It's Tuesday. I hope your Monday was smoother than my Monday. It was not a smooth Monday. I was limping through the Monday, but it's Tuesday now, and I feel as though Monday is firmly in the rearview mirror and can no longer touch me. Get thee behind me Monday. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio.
Again, good morning to you. Always a ton on our plates regardless of the month of the year, and I agree, and I've told you before that we spend a hell of a lot of time talking about the NFL, talking about football, and it really doesn't ever go away. I try to remind the NFL, we can't miss you if you never go away, and so here we are after a busy off season where there were headlines, if not every day, if not twice a day, at least multiple times per week, and because it's Tuesday, July 18th, the first of the rookies report to camp today.
That's it. The off season's over. Football is back. Now, does the NFL get to grab the entire spotlight? No, we won't let it. Hell no, you can't go.
We won't let you, NFL. I'm not ready to give up my summer yet, but the baseball boys of summer, they're gonna have to back up a little bit, and they're gonna have to share, gonna have to play nice, except if Shohei Ohtani continues to do what he's doing, he may actually outshine the NFL for a time or two all by his lonesome, especially with that bat flip. If you have not seen the Shohei Bat Chuck, it's more like a bat chuck than it was a flip.
There was a ton of emotion behind it. I mean, he doesn't just drop it and accidentally flips over it like a time or two does a 360. No, he chucks it up in the air with emphasis, with authority, and then in Anaheim gets a curtain call with a hat. You know the hat. It's the Shogun hat, the Shogun Viking hat is what I call it. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence.
You can find me on Twitter, A-LOL Radio, also on our Facebook page. It is a July day in which I'm hoping there's no smoke in my neighborhood, so that's the thing. I'm hoping that it's not a 105 degree heat index, but mostly I'm hoping that Shohei Ohtani stays with the Angels.
I don't know why I'm stuck on that. I really am. I think it's less and less likely. I really do want to see him stay in Anaheim with Mike Trott. I love that combination, but as we creep closer to the trade deadline, and yeah, that will start to pick up a lot of attention, even more coverage. You're going to hear the name Ohtani every other breath in sports radio and TV. I'm dreading it.
I'm dreading him getting traded. So badly want to see the Angels on the postseason stage again for the first time in what's almost a decade. I know Trout's injured, that's become more and more common, but gosh, to have the talent spread out a little bit, to have Ohtani make the Angels in the A.L.
West worth watching for fans who maybe don't have any rooting interest in that division. It's good for baseball to have Ohtani in a place that's not the Dodgers or wearing a uniform. I should say that's not the Dodgers or the Yankees or the Mets. The Cubs obviously spent a bunch of money for a while now trying to rebuild.
We've got places in every sport where there's a collection of talent. I like the teams that have done it from the ground up. I like the teams that have done it organically, but it's well within the rules to be able to pay through the nose for your free agents in Major League Baseball where there's no hard salary cap. Teams can spend as much as they want, even if they go over the luxury tax threshold, it just means more fees.
And so I guess I'm different bucking the trend. I don't want this to be a situation where Ohtani gets traded to a team that stockpiles talent because I like the fact that he makes the Angels must see TV, but it's a different team that we're talking that we're talking about. Except they've fallen off and with all the injuries, certainly the competition in their division, they below 500 now. So it's a bummer as we get closer to the trade deadline at the end of July. I'm dreading the news, breaking news that he'll end up traded somewhere else. Now I do understand why the Angels would do it, but I also understand why they wouldn't. It seems to be common, common knowledge, commonly accepted, commonly spewed that there's no way he stays in Anaheim after the season. But he did pick Anaheim initially and he wants to win.
So if those two things could ever go hand in hand, it just seems like they don't. This is pretty firmly the pattern that we've seen from the Angels the last few years. So we're going to get to some baseball coming up. I'm not sure what happened to Manny. I've lost my producer. What's going on, Manny? What are you doing?
Manny just left the control room and for a time there, left me on my lonesome. Are you back for good now? Are you going to take another sojourn? No.
A sabbatical from the studio? No, I'm back now. All right, sweet. What's up? What you need?
What do I need? Yeah, I'm here now, ready for work. Good to know. That's good to know. Before I get back to baseball, while Manny is doing whatever it is that he's doing in there, thank you for all of your fruit suggestions. That was really, speaking of organic, that was not something I planned or calculated. But I've decided that there's no better snack in the summertime than fresh cherries. They're delish.
I happen to have some with me tonight, so it's what I've been noshing on. But for those of you who have been on my social, I did deliver on my vow to post photos from the Statue of Liberty climb. The climb to the crown, we call it, or I call it.
The climb to the crown. I know I teased you on Facebook because I had shared the photos on Twitter and I was telling the story, but I hadn't yet put them up on Facebook. Without producer Jay, it's no easy feat because it's his Facebook account. But I did it. They're up. So make sure you check it out. And again, thanks for all of your your kind words, your fun responses. It's cool to share my adventures with you because you care and you get involved and then you share your adventures with me.
So that's awesome. Maybe a little more from SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey as we head through this hour. And yes, we will talk about the trio of running backs who did not sign long term deals before the deadline on Monday. What's the prospect?
What's the prognosis for Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, and Tony Pollard, who's supposed to be taking over as the number one running back in Dallas? It's after hours here on CBS Sports Radio. Now I know what Manny was doing. He just came in and hand delivered a note to me. It's good. Don't share it on the air. No, I'm just, I'm telling people that you're doing your job.
Manny's filling in for producer Jay who had a miserable travel day on Monday, but he did make it back home. No way. Yeah, see this is what's happening right now. I am really nervous about traveling. So let's see, a week from Thursday I will be on my way to Houston in July because it's, I mean, who doesn't want to go to Houston in July?
I heard it's beautiful at this time of year. I keep saying that in the hopes that it makes it true. Yeah, so I'm traveling in just over a week and I'm nervous because the number of friends and even family members who I've heard have had crazy travel issues, challenges, problems, snafus, oh in some cases getting completely and utterly stuck. Oh man, and I don't have, because I had a former American Airlines ticket that I didn't end up using, so I had a credit, I had to use it. I generally fly direct from Newark to Houston, but because I had to use up this credit or lose it, use it or lose it baby, I am flying American, which means I have to go through Dallas on my way to Houston.
It's kind of annoying, right? Because not only, and I'm not going to be checking a bag, so that's fine, but there's always more of a chance that something's going to go horribly wrong. Not only could you miss your connection in Dallas, but there's two different flights that could get delayed, not have the crew members, not be ready to go, keep you on the tarmac.
I'm already stressed out about it. The worst airline snafu that I had, I was going from Buffalo back here to LaGuardia. 45-minute flight, right? Except the night before my flight, lake effect storm because of course, because it's Buffalo, so I was, so Delta was nice enough to go ahead and reroute me. The following day at 6 a.m, I left Buffalo to go to Atlanta.
Oh no. To go to LaGuardia. Holy cow, LaGuardia of course being New York City when he says here, that's where we're located. So yes, I'm already nervous about it. I just want to get there, but I did lay down the groundwork with Bob and I said, if I get to Dallas and I miss my connection, you're coming to get me. Yeah, you're driving from Houston to Dallas to get me, and there was this pause on the phone and Bob said, absolutely. And so I'm sure he meant it.
Thank you, Bob. Yes, if I do get to Dallas and I'm about five hours from Houston, he's just going to have to hop in the car and come get me. Well, if I'm stuck there. I just looked it up.
It's actually a pretty hefty drive. I know, but he's done it before. You got a good guy in, Bob. I do have a good guy. I don't know if I would drive.
That's not even the number one reason why I have a good guy in, Bob. I don't know. If I drive 240 miles for Maddie.
That being his new live-in girlfriend. Are you kidding me? Don't say that on the air. She's not listening.
It doesn't matter. Pretend like you would, because even if you wouldn't, the opportunity may never arise. The problem may never be there, but just say that you would. I'll buy her an Amtrak ticket. Okay.
You have much to learn, producer Manny. Bob would absolutely come to get me because he would want to see me. Not so much that I need a ride. It's that he would be impatient to see me and would want to get his rear end to Dallas to pick me up. Especially if it meant I was delayed until the next day or something else that was awful. So don't send me your travel stories because I can't deal with them right now.
I'm already nervous as it is. I just need to get to Dallas. My return flight?
Eh, who cares? Well, no, I need to get home to Penny, of course, but going is far more stressful and far more stressful. And actually, my sister-in-law, my brother, they traveled not that long ago to Detroit. They said this is a flight from DC to Detroit.
Non-stop, relatively easy, couple hours tops. Apparently, because of the way travel is going right now, where so many flights are getting canceled, weather, fewer pilots, crew members that if they're on delays, they need their breaks, the crew members in the wrong places. It's just there's fewer flights all around. They were offering people $1,100 to take the next flight. Every person, not like a family unit, you get $1,100. No, every person who would go stand, not go stand by, but get rebooked on a different flight because it was overbooked, $1,100.
That's a lot to turn down. That could theoretically be three flights. $1,100. I don't think, even though they were going to a family reunion, there were four of them. Oh my gosh, they could have had nearly $5,000 in flight credits. Whoa, that would pay for a trip to Hawaii, no doubt. So I would consider it, unless Bob was going to drive from Houston to Dallas. Since he already committed, now I kind of have to take him up on the offer. All right, summer travel problems aside, it definitely can be a headache and I know lots of people, I'm sure you do as well, who are dealing with it right now. We'll get to what has been the headache for a lot of Major League Baseball this year and what is now a headache for Artie Moreno.
What to do about Shohei Ohtani? You can find me on Twitter, ALawRadio, Facebook too. Good morning. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence, CBS Sports Radio. If you, like me, find this world bewildering, but also sometimes enjoy being bewildered by it, check out the show.
On the Odyssey app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever else you listen. This is After Hours with Amy Lawrence. I started talking about the dead bird head again and I got all flustered. It's a true story if you missed it. I told it on the air last hour.
Yep, thank you. Thank you, bird of prey, for leaving the head of another bird in my driveway. That's what I get for thinking about it while I'm on the air. Anyway, back to Ohtani. He was flipping the Yankees the proverbial bird when he flipped his bat.
And if you don't know the context, I'm writing a CBS Sportsman in about it right this moment. The Yankees pitched around him in the fifth inning. So this game was still, I think it was still scoreless in the fifth inning. And the Yankees put him on base with an intentional walk and they load the bases in Anaheim. But it worked because the next batter lined out and the Yankees were able to escape the jam and the game remained scoreless. Not for long though, because in the top of the sixth, they were able to put a couple of runs on the board and the top of the seventh tack on another run. Okay, so bottom of the seventh, the Yankees are up 3-1 in Anaheim.
Now remember the A.L. East, toughest division in baseball, the Yankees are drifting to the bottom of this division because of what's happening with the Orioles, of course, the Toronto Blue Jays, the Rays still lead the division, even the Red Sox have had a few extra wins in them. And so the Yankees are desperate right now without Aaron Judge.
They have got to protect every lead that they can get. Top of the seventh, they're up 3-1. Shoei Ohtani comes to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with a runner on base and instead of pitching around him, they pitch to him. I'm going to need to hear it again with authority from one Shoei Ohtani leading the majors in dingers. Here's the pitch. He swings and drives the ball deep out into left center field.
It's out by the wall and that one is out of here. They pitch to Ohtani and he burns them. And tonight on this Monday night, it is showtime. If you have not seen the bat flip, you need to. In fact, I'm going to try to find just the gift of the bat flip. 35 home runs and that one happens to tie the game. Phil Nevin, he noticed a little extra something something with his superstar as he took off around the bases. The most emotion I've seen on the field from him.
Yeah, it was awesome. Just an incredible deal there and whenever you're superstars and we know what he is for us and really the whole league and all of baseball worldwide, when they step up in moments like that and have something like that happen, what it does for the whole place. But you guys have to understand what it does for our dugout too.
It's massive. Phil Nevin about Ohtani's home run and yeah it gave the Angels a new lease on life as well. Three games in a row with home runs for Ohtani and get this, this is your nerd alert. He's already over his home run total from last season. How much more should we see teams start to avoid him or pitch around him?
I mean they should be, right? He's deadly with that bat right now. 19 home runs in his last 31 games, three in a row.
He leads the majors with 35. Why the Yankees chose to pitch to him in the seventh is a mystery. But producer Manny, if you would like to, I don't know if it's in the folder from our New York affiliate, if you would like to check and see if there's any type of an explanation from one Yankees manager Aaron Boone about why they chose to pitch to him in the seventh, I would be all ears. Game still tied in the bottom of the 10th for the Yankees and the Angels. Stefanik three hits 10 times up with the Angels this year. Lines the ball into left field and this is going to win the ball game by the time Kiner Fulefa gets it. No chance for a throw to the plate and how about Michael Stefanik? That's the biggest hit in his major league career right there and the Angels walk it off against the Yankees tonight in the bottom of the 10th and win this ball game four to three.
You can put a halo over this one. Once again Terry Smith on Angels radio. Now in the grand scheme of things I don't know that it does much in terms of keeping Otani in Anaheim and I mean long term. I don't know whether or not the Angels will cave and trade him at the at the deadline. I do understand why they would like to keep him.
I do understand why it would be really painful to trade him now. He puts butts in the seats. He's worth the price of admission. He's must-see TV.
I could go cliche after cliche. He's a superstar and other than maybe Messi in Miami is there an athlete on the planet right now that people would rather see more than Shohei Otani? He's global. He's international.
Yeah go ahead find me on Twitter A Law Radio. What other athlete right now is a bigger draw than Shohei Otani around the globe? Isn't Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia or something? Okay so Ronaldo is a bigger draw in Saudi Arabia or something. Okay so Ronaldo maybe in Saudi Arabia.
There's no way that any of the golfers even if they are about to go into their open championship is a bigger draw right now. Messi. It's Messi and it's Otani. It's Messi Otani.
Otani is Messi. I don't know I honestly I'm racking my brain but I can't think of anyone who's a bigger draw around the world than Shohei Otani and the Angels have him so I can understand why it would be uber painful to trade him away. Maybe, maybe you hold out hope that he will re-sign if somehow you have a surge through the end of the regular season even if you don't make the playoffs.
If you give it the old college try maybe just maybe he re-signs. So if I'm Artie Moreno and and I'm telling the Angels front office what to do, I'm a romantic. I love to cling to shreds of hope. I still go back to the line from Pirates of the Caribbean.
I can't let it go. There is no cause that's lost if there is yet but one fool who will fight for it. In many, many, many opinions Otani sticking with the Angels is a lost cause but Artie Moreno is willing to fight for it. He might be that fool. I don't want to call Aaron Boone a fool. I don't like to call people names but, but why, segue, why exactly did you not walk Otani in the seventh?
No, no, no, no. Maybe if he had gotten to second base and fallen behind in the count or something but uh no not, not there. Huh, meaning the runner. I'm assuming he means the runner. Right. Got to second base not Otani. Right. All right so a little bit of context there. We mentioned there was a runner on base. He apparently didn't even consider it. Is that what we have in our next cut? Well that's what the um the first audio clip that I just played that's what the description says but I do have another clip that further explains the logic. Let's go Aaron Boone.
Let's go. The guy hitting behind him is hitting.332 so it's not like you know so I wasn't gonna you know put the put another runner out at second and the time run on and the go ahead or run it to play with a two-run lead there no so so no now had he gotten to second and we're behind the count or something different story but no not in that that one. So he's referring to Mickey Moniac who has been hitting well right so I understand what he's saying. And was the guy who lined out to right field. Yes exactly so Moniac is the one they got out in the fifth inning with the bases loaded after they delivered the intentional walk to Otani except I'm sorry I understand Otani's only hitting.306 but he is on a tear right now.
So his point was if the runner had advanced to second stealing wild pitch blah blah whatever error then maybe we put Otani on but he actually said they never considered it. Now in the ninth inning they struck him out and it was actually three really awkward swings from him looks like he tweaked his back I'm not speaking that I'm just saying it looked really awkward the swings. So they got him in the ninth but the Angels won in the 10th. Now for the Angels still a game below.500 they've drifted back to fourth place in the AL West. The Rangers they're on a tear again they've won four in a row including an extra inning victory over the Rays who are reeling. The Rays still have the game lead in the AL East because the Orioles gave up a late inning grand slam to Chris Taylor. The Dodgers and the Orioles win streak it's all very convoluted I know but follow me here the Rangers are playing well they've expanded that lead they've added to the lead atop the AL West so the Angels they got to get their rears in gear they got a couple weeks and there's no Mike Trout in sight not yet. But as for the Yankees this may have been an even more painful loss than the win was valuable for the Angels. The Yankees are now in last place in the AL East now they're above.500 they would be the leaders of the AL Central by a couple of games and they'd be what second place in a few other divisions but in the AL East you really can't go on a tear where you lose seven of ten. They're now nine back of the Rays Wowsers. It's one thing to say about the AL East the teams that come out of there will be battle tested. It's the AL beast. I used the NFC beast during the football season last year because it was so good well three of the four teams this is the AL beast yeah I don't like it as much we'll see what happens with Otani but man that bat flip spoke volumes can you read between the flips all right really quickly before we get to our update the defensive player of the week sponsored by the Navy Federal Credit Union who proudly serves the armed forces DoD veterans and their families their members are the mission learn more at navyfederal.org Nick Pavetta six innings of relief for the Red Sox last night striking out 13 A's I don't care don't tell me it's Oakland so it doesn't matter 13 strikeouts is 13 strikeouts so the Boston Red Sox shut out the A's they take care of business in the Coliseum and Nick Pavetta getting a bunch of attention for an extraordinary relief effort let's see straight ahead three running backs the only three franchise tagged players who did not get long-term deals what does it mean even as rookies report to training camps including the Giants in a bunch of different places around the NFL today now it is Drake who goes in motion here is Jacobs hole in the right side cut to the 10 five jackpot baby Vegas touchdown yeah Jones over center this time Rita in the right left slot goes in motion toss left to Barkley gets a block Barkley to the 25 Barkley to the left sideline to the 10 to the 5 touchdown Giants sake one Barkley on a 28 yard burst this is after hours with Amy Lawrence we got a little old school there with Brent Musburger on the Raiders radio network and then Bob Papa on Giants radio why why would you want to hear Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley touchdowns on this Tuesday morning maybe if you are Raiders or Giants fan it actually is salt in the wounds but I'm thinking these two running backs as much as they are frustrated and I would say it's pretty much position-wide right now in the NFL the frustration over the the lack of fat PHAT and FAT long-term deals for running backs the number of quality backs who do not have homes right now yeah there's a lot of frustration I'm not sure I've ever seen so many members of one position so many athletes who play one position come together I'm sure it wasn't choreographed but come together and speak out their frustration on a single day like what happened Monday we talked to our Raiders insider from Las Vegas earlier in the show and Hondo Carpenter said about Josh Jacobs the Raiders want him and Josh wants to be there and he will play even if it takes until week number one he will reunite with his teammates he's not planning on sitting out so if you miss that conversation make sure you grab it on our podcast there's also an update on Jimmy Garoppolo so check out the podcast wherever you get your podcasts but we prefer the Odyssey app or cbs4tradio.com we also post the link on our social media Saquon Barkley he's in the same boat hasn't yet signed that franchise tender in protest is likely to hold out though will not reportedly miss any playing time and so it's more about protest than it is about actually trying to force the hand of the Raiders and the Giants when it comes to Tony Pollard he's actually signed his franchise tender all three of these guys said to make ten point one million dollars this season is it the long-term deal with the guaranteed money no do you feel like do they feel like and do many running backs that around the league believe it's a sign of disrespect yes and maybe it is but this is the pattern in the league are there a few that have been paid absolutely Christian McCaffrey he's had a second free agent deal or a second long-term deal I should say making 16 million dollars this upcoming campaign Alvin Kamara Dalvin Cook who right now is available was set to make more than 12 and a half million which is what Derek Henry is making he's also had a second long-term deal in his career Nick Chubb is over 12 million now Joe Mixon just renegotiated so he could stay with the Bengals they made that happen but that's essentially the thought is hey we're at the most impactful significant position in the league you cannot win without a solid running back and that trend is certainly that trend is certainly played out last season but also there are two principles in football run the ball stop the run run the ball stop the run and yet right now in the eyes of these running backs once again their contributions are underappreciated and undervalued it's after hours on CBS Sports Radio this portion of the show brought to you by Wesley Financial are you stuck in a timeshare and want out contact Wesley Financial Group now get a free timeshare exit information kit at wesleyfinancial.com I kind of think back and he put himself in the spotlight again with with Snapchat but when you're leaving on Bell and you go on Snapchat even if you want the video to disappear it's not going to disappear it's going to be shared and service is a bit of a cautionary tale for running backs and and really most positions let's be honest the NFL and the the collective bargaining agreement as well as the NFL salary cap slash contract structure for most athletes is that it favors and gives leverage to the teams it gives leverage to the franchises there are very few guys who can hold out and beat the system and because the average NFL career doesn't even last four seasons you can understand why they wouldn't want to hold out but then you look at it through the microscope of the running back position and you understand why you understand why they want to get the extra money when they can get it get the guaranteed money when they can get it because by the time running backs or 27-28 teams are getting really leery about spending any kind of extra money on them and then you have the Le'Veon Bell cautionary tale so on Snapchat Monday he issues an apology of sorts for what happened in 2018 I never apologized to the fans for really sitting down or leaving the Steelers I never apologized so I'm going to say I apologize for leaving leaving the best damn fans there is in this damn world I shouldn't have left I apologize I should never have left I apologize that's my fault that's on me I should never have left with a nice nod to the Steelers fans but too little too late no remember he was the most used this is non-quarterback the most used player in the NFL that sounds so dirty he was the busiest player in the NFL outside of quarterbacks between the carries and the catches there wasn't a guy who was more valuable in terms of how much he impacted the game than Le'Veon Bell and he sat out remember he held out he was going to come back middle of the season then it was week eight nine ten and and finally he just skipped the entire campaign the Steelers were stunned and the next off season or the next year I guess when he got the deal with the Jets do you remember he felt like he had won I won I bet on myself I feel better than I have in forever and that stands to reason because he took a year off a year away from the pounding but he was never the same now they didn't use him the same but he was never the same once again playing right into this idea and what is a pattern and even the stats bear it out especially for running backs who've had injuries like Josh Jacobs now I know that Josh had a career year in 22 Saquon Barkley healthy resurgent powerful weapon for the I almost said the Jets for the Giants do you think not I could be wrong about this it's pure speculation of course but do you think that Daniel Jones would have the contract he has right now without Saquon Barkley his numbers wouldn't look as good his production wouldn't be as good the Giants likely don't win the games they do last year and make the playoffs as the third team out of the NFC East now again all of this is speculation but I'm saying it because I understand why running backs are ticked I get it except there are decades of stats that bear it out that you can generally find a running back at a bargain basement price whether it's one you draft whether it's an unsigned free agent whether it's a young man who goes undrafted but you can plug and play at that position depending on what you're looking for more than most other positions on the field but also over and over NFL teams up for fresh legs and for the energy of a young guy that they can pay less money to then they will opt for a guy who's shown the skill of the position not every time but a lot of times it's after hours here on CBS Sports Radio again social media flooded with the reaction from inside the NFL and then Austin Eckler who himself had received permission from the Chargers to go seek a trade partner didn't find one of course he was a guest on CBS Sports Radio is that Gelb airing his grievances from a player's aspect we have no control of that I have no control so really what who we want answers from is is the ownership like why are you doing this what's the reason like give us like you know you're interviewing them about it like how many owners have you talked to about this you know zero they ain't gonna say anything either because I for whatever reason right they got this thing going on where it's like a new trend um like oh I don't know how many owners have you talked to about this like oh let's not pay these guys I don't know maybe they're just testing us like hey let's see what happens um but you know you poke the bear you know and you know you're gonna make us have to do something it's not new that's the thing it's not a new trend so while I understand Austin Eckler and his frustration and I can identify with that because I get it if you can't run the ball generally you're not a Super Bowl contender we think about the team's lash well the Eagles are a great example the number of rushing touchdowns they had last year it was more than any other team in the playoffs before running back so critical to a team success and so I understand why Austin Eckler is ticked he called it trash on social media Jonathan Taylor who will be a free agent after the 23 season if you're good enough they'll find you if you work hard enough you'll succeed if you succeed you boost the organization and then it doesn't matter you're a running back Christian McCaffrey who does have a deal that pays him handsomely calls it criminal three of the best players in the entire league regardless of position Derek Henry just take the running back position out the game then Josh Jacobs one healthy season but I have every Raider record damn near Saquon Barkley it is what it is he's coming off a 1600 yard season I mean think about Dalvin Cook four consecutive years with 1100 yards at least I understand but NFL teams have got to find ways to scrimp and save in some cases to get under the salary cap and this is a position they routinely chosen to do it we'll talk more about it tonight for the hump show it's after hours with Amy Lawrence CBS Sports Radio. Boom!
