The gospel makes demands on us, requiring us to do things we wouldn't want to do, like giving generously and reaching out to people who are different. To truly understand and cherish the gift of grace, we must first grasp the problem of sin and our deadness in it. Paul's explanation in Ephesians 2 reveals that we are spiritually dead, followers of Satan, and children of wrath, but God's mercy and love offer salvation and hope.
