Frances Nash, a young nurse from Georgia, volunteered for service in the Philippines during World War II, where she and other nurses, known as the Angels of Bataan, provided care to wounded soldiers, including those from the enemy. In a separate story, Danielle Michaelson, a North Dakota native, started a small food business, Michelson Tiny Plants, after the passage of the Cottage Food Law, which allowed her to sell homemade food products from her home kitchen. However, the North Dakota Department of Health attempted to shut down her business, leading to a court battle over the rule of law. Meanwhile, in 1948, President Harry Truman visited a small town in Iowa, Dexter, as part of his presidential campaign, where he gave a speech and interacted with local farmers, helping to turn the tide of his election.
