The Bible teaches that God is the one and only self-existent, independent being in the universe, who has existence in and of himself. As followers of Christ, we must grasp our utter dependency on God for every moment of our existence and relate properly to the living God of the universe. The essence of sin is when any created being decides to take over and sit on the throne of their own life, rejecting God's preeminence over their life. The prophet Isaiah has a profound encounter with the transcendent God, experiencing awe, wonder, and worship. He sees the Lord sitting on a throne, surrounded by holy angels, and hears the seraphim crying out in holy worship. Isaiah feels the intensity of God's presence and is overcome with a sense of his own sinfulness and unworthiness.
