The office of deacon is a service role within the church, where men are called to serve others, and lead by example in service. Deacons must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, and not greedy for dishonest gain. They must also hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience, be tested, and serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. Deacons' wives are also called to certain qualifications, including being sober-minded and faithful in all things.
