That's 855-212-4227. Matt Moore is going to join us later in the show to talk about Russell Westbrook, soon to be a Denver Nugget. And then in 20 minutes from now, Jordan Dajani is going to come through and talk some NFL football with us.

Because this is this is like getting ready to open up all the presents. By the time we get to the end of next week. Every single NFL team will be in training camp. Every single NFL team will be in training camp. And as of right now, the first game, the first matchup that we have for training camp, or NFL game, I should say, will be the Hall of Fame game that will take place on August 1st.

I know August 1st will be here before you know it. We're going to have the Bears and we did a lot of talking last night about Caleb Williams. I gave you a top six list. I told you that Caleb Williams is the player that I want to see the rookie that I want to see play the most this upcoming season. You know who else showed up to camp today? The Texans, the Houston Texans showed up to camp and it's going to be Texans and it's going to be Bears during the Hall of Fame game.

Now I get it. It's a Hall of Fame game. First preseason game. This is why the Bears and the Texans have started camp a little earlier. We ain't going to see no shootout.

We may not see the stars. Caleb Williams might not even play, but it's something. It's NFL football. It's professional football. It's something that we haven't had since the Super Bowl in February when the Chiefs went out there and hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Something is better than nothing. I'll take it. And so naturally there's been a lot of attention paid to the Chicago Bears and Caleb Williams. The quarterback who paints his nails can put vulgar FU messages on them to the opposition. The man who will reject questions or not even answer them at the press conference that he loses. You know, the game lost. Now he doesn't want to talk at the press conference.

The guy who's crying on his mama's shoulder. There's a lot of reasons to pay attention to Caleb Williams and the Bears. They got a lot of talent.

They got a lot of weapons. Did you actually see what the Texans did last year? Have you seen how the Texans, despite the Dallas Cowboys, just 12 wins this year and 12 wins this year and 12 wins this year, the Dallas Cowboys always figure out a way to choke things away. The Houston Texans actually have expectations. This was a laughingstock of a franchise a few years ago.

Terrible. Bill O'Brien is just selling away, trading away the world, and look how fast they've been able to turn things around. Look at how much respect the Texans have in the NFL. And if you've paid attention to football over the last 20 years, look at what happens when you have a quarterback and you have a coach. I'm talking about D'Amico Ryans, who used to crack skulls for the Houston Texans, and CJ Stroud, the guy who was selected number two in last year's NFL draft behind Bryce Young. We've seen what a quarterback coach combination can do. They could potentially win championships. And am I going to expect CJ Stroud to continue on with the absolutely ridiculous touchdown to interception ratio?

No, no, I don't. Last year, this man probably and might have had one of the best rookie seasons that we have ever seen from a quarterback. 21 touchdowns to five interceptions. There are guys who are in the NFL for years at the quarterback position, who step out onto the field, and they cannot be as efficient as he was, all the way to the offensive rookie of the year.

There are some expectations here, and not just because he was offensive rookie of the year, because the Houston Texans actually went to the postseason last year. They went and they beat the Browns. They smashed them 45 to 14. Yeah, when they went up against the Ravens, they got punched in the mouth, 34 to 10. But they weren't even supposed to be there. Who the hell was looking at the Houston Texans and said that they were going to have a record of 10 and seven and that CJ Stroud was going to go for more than 4,000 yards passing? And I sure changed them.

23 touchdowns and five interceptions. Come on. Nobody. Now for this joke of an organization, I've had people calling me up for years about how they were done with the Texans, how they jettisoned all the talent, how the front office was a joke, how people were giving up their season tickets. They weren't spending. Oh, now they back, right? They back. They're back and they're spending that money.

And you would think after a 10 and seven season that they'd be content, but of course not. They want to go for the goal. They want the Vince Lombardi.

It's not gold, but it's silver. You know what the hell I mean? They traded for Stefan Diggs. Dalton Schultz. Nico Collins is back. Tank Dell was on his way.

This man broke his leg. He was on his way to like a thousand and ten season. Joe Mixon, Danielle Hunter. Nobody talks about the fact that the Texans also have the reigning defensive player of the year, at least on the rookie side. And Will Anderson, nobody talks about that. The Texans are stacked. There's no reason for them not to go back to the postseason. It'd be a disappointment if they did not. And they should. And CJ Stroud speaking to the media today, the very first day of camp, he says, you know what?

Yeah, we got playoff expectations, but I'm not worried about it at all. Just work. You know, that's all it's about is just working. And, you know, either you do it or you don't. You know, we're the ones on the field that got to go figure it out. And, you know, I think we'll do that.

We've been playing ball since we've been kids. And, you know, it's not going to be easy. It's going to be harder.

You know, we have a target on our back this year. And, you know, that's how you should want to, you know, and that's what I'm used to playing at Ohio State. And, you know, I'm just I'm really, you know, honored and blessed to have the teammates that I do to want that challenge and for guys that want to come and play here, because, you know, this is this section team isn't for everybody. It's hard here.

And, you know, we're blessed enough to play a game that we've been playing since we've been kids. So, you know, I definitely do think that all the expectations, we just work. I mean, everything will take care of itself. Yeah, just just do the work. Things typically will take care of themselves.

They can. You've got to be smart about the work that you do. But on the football field, if you work, everything will work out. Now, I told you, there are some things that are different, like the Houston Texans not resting on their laurels by bringing in Stephon Diggs. For all the talk in Buffalo last year, for all the talk in Buffalo over the past several years, Stephon Diggs hauled in 107 passes last year for almost 1200 yards and eight touchdowns. He is still one of the most productive wide outs in the entire league. And pairing him with guys like Nico Collins, Tank Dell and Dalton Schultz, this offense is ridiculous. C.J.

Stroud continued on and he said, you know what? Yeah, throw Joe Mixon in there. We got five beasts at the positions.

Go listen to this. Definitely somebody who definitely can't open up your playbook. But we have all of those guys around. He'll say that, too. You know, so it's it's it's a five headed monster, you know, so it's definitely a super dope to have, you know, just a bunch of options. Now, Hickey, I've heard of a three headed monster. That's the thing in Godzilla, right?

He got three heads, that dragon with the three heads. You've seen him before, right? Definitely. Yep. Have you ever seen a monster with five heads?

I have not. No, I hope not to have to be a plant. Right. Like a Venus. No, Venus.

Does a Venus fly trap? Is it one mouth or multiple? I think just one. Wow.

One mouth. Yeah, I'm pretty sure. You ever seen one of them things in person? I have not.

No books. I don't. Listen, I don't know where I was. Don't ask me. I've seen some I've seen that before.

I don't know if I was in an office or in somebody's house and I'm like, you really have this here. But did you see it in action? You know what? And this is you're not supposed to do these.

I didn't do it because I'm not messing with no Venus fly trap. If you you you get closer, you get closer, you get closer, you touch the mouth here, the mouth closes like it's not playing games. So if you're a bug and you decide to get close, you're cooked lunch and he just he closed his mouth. His mouth will be closed for the next. I don't know how long a week. He just he's just munching for a week, digesting, cooking them.

Pretty fast. A bug, a bug that just a plant that eats bugs. Yeah. What a car.

Carnivorous plant. What a world. Right.

And so it starts. You've seen Little Shop of Horrors. No, no, no, sir. Now that that was a that was a plant from outer space that ate humans. Don't like that idea.

Don't like that. It was a musical little. It was a great hickey is a great film is a musical. Little House of Horrors. I would sing the song for you, but nobody wants to hear me sing. That's a musical.

I don't know if I want to see. Well, I mean, they turned it into a movie or Rick Moranis and Steve Martin. And the plant came from outer space and the plant ate the plant. The plant said, feed me. The plant said, feed me. See more plant wanted food.

Humans. Who fed the plant? Well, he asked the owner to feed him and the owner is just like the plant was threatening the owner like, man, I need to eat. You need to go outside and get me some food.

Some purge stuff right there. And he wanted that. He's like, there's a big ass plant. He was no small plant.

He bought eight, nine, 10, 12. He's a big ass plant. He needed to eat humans. And so he was charging his owner with finding him food.

Humans. Could the plant move around? Was it mobile or is it like rooted in the ground? No, he was in a pot, a giant pot.

He could put his things down. What are things called? The plants have roots. He could move with his roots and his limbs, stems, stems.

I don't know. This does not sound realistic. Why don't you let the plant die? Don't feed the plant. No, that plant would have killed him and ate him. He can't move.

He's in the pot. Honestly, those movies like that bother the hell out of me. You know a movie I watched recently that I despise the ending of? Tin Cup. That's a golf movie, right?

Yes. They're giving him a standing ovation. The guy lost the open because he had like a 14 on the last hole and he's getting a standing ovation because after like the 10th shot, he finally gets it in. What kind of ending is that? I could never sit through that movie. I don't blame you.

That was a one and done for me. I'm going to send you the trailer. I'm going to find it. I'm going to send you the trailer, The Little Shop of Horrors. And then a great classic movie, man. Classic, classic, even Broadway classic film classic. Great, great film.

You'll love it. Trust me. Trust me, Hickey. Anyway, how did, well, I was like, how did we get here? Because CJ Stroud talked about his team and said that they were a five headed monster and five headed monster.

I've never seen in my life. CJ Stroud didn't stop there. This guy, he's one person. As far as I know, he bigged up Stefan Diggs, the other guy that everybody complained about up in Buffalo so far, so good with him.

Listen to this. Really just how hard he works, man. You know, he's, he's somebody who, uh, you know, loves the game and doesn't cheat it, you know, and that's why he's been successful. And, you know, I think he'll continue that success.

You know, I'm blessed enough to hopefully be a part of that. And, you know, uh, that's some things that just stick out for me, just how personable he is, how relatable he is. He's a really friendly and very vocal, so it's really nice to have him around.

He's friendly. Hickey, how long is that going to last? Week two, week three?

I'm glad you said earlier somewhere in September. That is, the front minister is going to go out the door if he's getting two targets in the first three games. You know what? At least CJ Stroud seems to have everything together. He seems like a guy who has it all together. And someone who's noticed, we've heard so much from CJ Stroud.

I told you, it takes a combination. It takes teamwork to make the dream work. He said, coach D'Amico Ryan's, he said, if this man right here, this guy is the future. And he already got control of the team.

He's talking about CJ Stroud. I think CJ has done a really good job this off season, um, as a leader when it comes to working with other guys, right? Knowing that he's not just working by himself, but finding the avenues to get a group together and work together. That's very important, especially when it comes to timing in the passing game for receivers and quarterbacks that have to be in sync. And it shows that they see how important that was because guys were working together this summer.

Teamwork makes the dream work. Now, when you think about the AFC South, it's a two team race at the top. It's Houston and Jacksonville, Jacksonville. They might've been in the same damn place.

If you know, Trevor Lawrence didn't get hurt two team race cults in Tennessee, they got to figure it out. I wouldn't be surprised if Jacksonville won. I wouldn't be surprised if Houston won to be honest. I think it's a coin flip.

If you really asked me who was going to win the division, I would say Houston, but I wouldn't be surprised if Jacksonville won it. You know what? We're going to take a break.

And when we come back on the other side of the break, no, let's have this conversation. Let's talk NFL training camp. Let's get into all of this with Jordan Dajani from CBS Sports. He covers all things NFL. I'm going to ask him about these Texans. I'm going to ask him about the Jags. I'm going to ask him about the Bears who've already opened up training camp. We have so much to get into Jordan Dajani's joining us to talk NFL from CBS Sports on the other side of the break. You'll be here for sure. It's the J.R. sport.

Right before we went to break we talked about the Houston Texans. They have opened up camp. Getting ready for the hall of fame game against the Chicago Bears on August 1st.

Yeah it's going to be here before you know it. To talk about training camp. What's upon us. What we can look forward to.

What we should look forward to come September. Joining us right now from CBS Sports covers all things NFL is Jordan Dejani. Jordan thank you for taking the time to join us.

JR my man what's going on? Thanks for having me on the show this evening. No problem.

Not a problem at all. Right before we went to break as I just discussed we got into the Houston Texans. Took a look at all the weapons that they have.

Everyone that they brought in. You now have someone like Stephon Diggs. What do you expect from them in year two? Is there going to be a little bit of a regression? Are they going to be battling it out with Jacksonville?

What say you? Yeah you know I think that the Houston Texans probably should be the favorites to win the AFC South and I don't know if I want to put them in that realm of being legitimate Super Bowl contenders. They're going to have to prove that to me but I would argue that they are one of the most improved teams this offseason. I mean this offseason the Texans became the first team in NFL history to add a player coming off a season with 100 receptions. A player coming off a thousand rushing yards and two players coming off of 10 plus sack seasons in the same offseason.

But it doesn't stop just there right? I mean I thought they added great depth pieces with the tackling monster linebacker Aziz Alshair. They got some more depth on the defensive line with Foley Fathikasi, Tim Settle. They re-signed the former first round pick of the Eagles Derek Barnett as well.

They're stacking talent. They got deeper this offseason and they got better in the secondary as well. So I think that the Texans have all they need now to repeat as AFC South champions. But let me tell you the AFC South to me is one of the most intriguing divisions. I think any of these four teams could end up winning it.

I think all of them got a fighter's chance at the top. But when you anytime you land that franchise quarterback with CJ Stroud that the Texans did that opens up your window for contending. So I'm excited to see what this young guy can do in year two.

Yeah Jordan Dajani is here with us from CBS Sports. You said you feel strongly about all four teams in the AFC South. When you see Will Levis what gets you going about him and what the Titans can do.

Yeah there's a couple different things. I mean first of all with the player itself you know what stood out to me the first time I saw him throw the football is his arm talent. I mean there's not a lot of people in the world that have the kind of zip that he does when he throws catch with his teammates before practice.

It's pretty wild to see. But on top of that I think this new regime really invested into Will Levis. They're putting pressure on him to prove this season his first full season as a starter in the NFL that he can be a franchise quarterback. Not only did they hire an offensive minded head coach who has worked with other quarterbacks during different stages of their careers whether that be Peyton Manning, Derek Carr, Joe Burrow, Matthew Stafford. But the the new general manager also invested in talent on the offensive line. They brought in Calvin Ridley. They brought in Tyler Boyd. They brought in Tony Pollard who's a pass catching weapon out of the backfield as well.

So all of a sudden Will Levis has a nice arsenal of weapons around him to prove that he's that guy. So he's going to have a legitimate chance to prove that he can be a franchise quarterback and again he really does have that leadership now in Tennessee. An offensive-minded head coach who knows how to develop these quarterbacks and looking at the kind of prospect he was coming out of Kentucky I do think he possesses some of the tools necessary to be that guy. So the Tennessee Titans really are an intriguing team to watch.

Jordan typically people think about a competitive a competitive division. They think about the AFC North all those teams up in the the mid-Atlantic and Pennsylvania beat the hell out of each other. Ohio you know what are your thoughts on on the Ravens still trying to get over the hump? People are bigging up Deshaun Watson. They haven't even gotten into camp. Pittsburgh has two quarterbacks now. Cincinnati hopefully has a healthy Burrow.

What do you think happens in the North? Well I'll tell you this I'm expecting much of the same. I'm sure all those AFC North teams are going to beat up each other every single year and that nothing's going to be different here in 2024. I mean with the Baltimore Ravens I think that they would probably be the preseason favorites.

You know Lamar Jackson really seemingly took a step forward in terms of his progression as a downfield passer in 2023 but now there's this narrative around Tim Kenney winning the playoffs and that's something he's going to have to try to defeat in the playoffs next year. The Cleveland Browns I mean this seems like they could be a legitimate Super Bowl roster if they get good or dare I say consistent play from the quarterback position. Deshaun Watson is going to be the headlines all through training camp to see if this guy can not only stay healthy but play good football because Joe Flacco was more of a formidable threat at the quarterback position last year for Cleveland. With the Cincinnati I mean Joe Burrow in my opinion is a top two quarterback in the NFL. If he remains healthy then Cincinnati of course is going to be a contender.

And then there's the Pittsburgh Steelers. I don't feel so strongly about them and I see I feel like they kind of created a bit of a quarterback controversy for themselves bringing in Russell Wilson who is coming off of his own Denver disaster. Is he someone who is still a legitimate starter in this league? That remains to be seen and now we have to deal with this athletic former first round pick behind him on the depth chart with Justin Fields. Is this a guy who is going to be hungry and make this a legitimate quarterback competition through training camp?

I think that's one of the more intriguing questions to look when we're talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jordan Dejani is joining us courtesy of CBS Sports covers all things NFL. How long and in what type of way are we going to see Justin Fields and gimmicks out there? Is that what we can look forward to?

The red zone and gimmicks? I think so. I think that's what Arthur Smith's going to do with him. He's going to get a couple snaps a game maybe as a decoy out wide maybe taking a couple of handoffs because we know how electric he is with the ball in his hands. One of the best running quarterbacks in the league in my opinion but you know in terms of him overtaking Russell Wilson I think one of the more interesting things to debate or try to figure out is is Russell Wilson going to be bad enough in this Pittsburgh scheme with Arthur Smith to warrant himself getting benched? I think it's very likely that he's not quote unquote good but is he going to be bad enough for Mike Tomlin to pull the trigger to go to Justin Fields?

So that's a different kind of question but yeah I would imagine that Justin Fields does get a couple of snaps just as a decoy trick play artist if you will that's what I imagine happening. Well Jordan we open up this conversation by talking about CJ Stroud and what he was able to do with the Texans. If you take a look at things on the the NFC side you don't got to go far to look at Jordan Love. I mean he's already looking at what his next contract is going to look like because he had to spend those those first years right behind Aaron Rodgers. What do you expect in the NFC North?

They should be competitive too. I guess maybe the worst team will be Minnesota? Yeah the NFC North is going to be fascinating to see what happens there. I mean it was really fun to see what Jordan Love did with the Green Bay Packers last year because you know there were peaks and valleys with their performances through the early portions of the regular season. People thought that Jordan Love really didn't have the makings of a franchise quarterback but then the second half of the season he really took off and what I really like about this Packers roster in general is not just the quarterback but they seemingly have young talent all around him. I mean we're talking about one of the youngest wide receiving corps in the National Football League. We're talking about a very young defense as well with a really intriguing line backing corps as well so they got a new defensive coordinator a new leader on that side of the ball. The Packers are certainly going to be an interesting team to watch but I don't want to sleep on the Minnesota Vikings either. I mean people want to talk about Caleb Williams you know landing in a really nice landing spot with Chicago but at the same time I'd like to be a quarterback playing under Kevin O'Connell throwing the football to Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and TJ Hockinson as well. So Brian Flores you know enters another year with this scheme.

I think he added some plan makers that might help what he wants to accomplish in terms of the arsenal of pass rushers he has at his disposal. So the NFC North is another really interesting division to watch this year. As we move closer to all of the teams showing up for training camp what are some other teams that you're paying close attention to?

What are some other big stories now that we're moving into camp time? Yeah I'm going to direct your attention quickly to the AFC East. You know we're talking about the Bills and Patriots wide receiver order right? I mean who is the new Stefan Diggs in Buffalo? Is Keon Coleman going to hit the ground running? Is he not going to live up to expectations early on?

If he doesn't who's the number one there? I mean they have a ton of new faces with Curtis Samuel. I think they got Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mack Hollins, Khalil Shakir is still there.

He was a pretty intriguing weapon as well. I'm really interested to see who is going to step up to be Josh Allen's best new friend out wide but for the Patriots I mean who in the world is going to be their leading pass catcher? I mean Kendrick Bourne is coming off a torn ACL. Jalen Polk and Javon Baker are intriguing rookies and then you of course are hosting a quarterback battle there as well with Drake May.

He's a top five pick so I imagine he's going to end up starting week one but he's going to have to prove it for sure. Yeah well you think about the Patriots I expect them to be in the toilet for quite some time. Sticking to the AFC East. The New York Jets are there. They got a 40 year old quarterback.

Everybody's ass is on the line if they don't work out this season. Jordan what do you think is the most likeliest of outcomes with the Jets? Yeah how about those New York Jets?

You know it doesn't seem like we're talking about them as much as we did last offseason right? Aaron Rodgers goes down with that torn Achilles and it seems like we haven't really talked about them a ton ever since then but yes Aaron Rodgers is definitely a bit older and he's going to be probably a little bit more limited with that injury he's coming off of but you know no matter how you feel about this guy one thing I've noticed over the past few years is that he possesses this superpower of rising up and just proving the doubters wrong. So if Aaron Rodgers can just provide consistent quarterback play for New York I expect that offense to be a lot better. I mean he's got plenty of playmakers to rely on with Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson. Don't forget that the front office also revamped the offensive line entirely to hopefully keep Aaron Rodgers upright but the secret ingredient for the Jets success other than Aaron Rodgers staying healthy is that top five defense they have on that other side of the ball.

I mean this unit is loaded with talent at all three levels. I think they truly do have the potential to serve as that backbone for what could be a contender. So I'm leaning towards the Jets making the playoffs as a wild card but again it all hinges on Aaron Rodgers staying healthy. Jordan Dejani is here with us from CBS Sports.

You know I want to give some hope to some of our listeners who's had to had to watch some bad football. Are we gonna see anything different from the Panthers? Is Bryce Young is this who he is?

They got him some help but is he gonna suffer again even under Canales? No no no I think it's crazy to be out on Bryce Young after just one year. I think it's it's impossible just to write him off as a bust and say he's not going to improve especially considering the quarterback or excuse me the head coach that Carolina hired with Dave Canales. I mean this guy's a legitimate quarterback whisperer dating back to his days with Seattle. After Russell Wilson left he turns Geno Smith into the comeback player of the year. He takes his services over to Tampa Bay and all of a sudden Baker Mayfield is a quarterback worth a multi-year lucrative extension. So there should be cautious optimism for what he can do with Bryce Young and I think Carolina's front office has been hard at work trying to add talent not only in the offensive line but defense wide receiving core as well. So I don't think the Carolina Panthers really could be a playoff team.

I'm not going to take it that far but if Bryce Young can step up, improve, have composure, go through his progression, make the throws he needs to make, show that true improvement that he's on track to show that he can be a franchise quarterback that would be a win in my book. Oh Jordan as as we wrap up this interview and as they get ready to start camp are there any players that you feel that we could see move? Is it a quarterback? Is it someone like Iyuk? I think he'll stay but is there any player that'll make a move between now and September?

You know it's a good question and there's no one that really jumps off the page to me. I mean Brandon Iyuk I'm sure has taken up the majority of headlines for for a couple weeks now but he's a guy I think that is probably going to have to play out that contract in San Francisco. I don't see him being moved but in terms of other players being traded I mean I look at Miles Sanders for Carolina. He's a running back on a contract that the the front office there probably regrets but at the same time is there going to be a team out there that would trade for his services?

My guess is no. So I'm kind of looking at some surprise cuts as well. I mean how about wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster? Is he someone who could be on the move? Titans wide receiver Tralen Burks has been in the headlines a lot as well.

All of a sudden that wide receiving court Nashville is pretty revamped. Is he going to be someone who could potentially be on the trade block? So you know it happens every single offseason. Players we don't expect to be moved are moved and that's just what goes into the thrill of training camp.

Last question for you. Two are getting a contract between now and the start of the season or is two are getting a contract at the end of the year? Man I got to tell you I think we knew that that next quarterback extension to come after the Jared Goff one was going to potentially be a massive deal right and I'm not talking about dollars and cents I'm talking about ramifications around the league.

So Trevor Lawrence was that guy to be honest with you I thought it was going to be to us. So Chris Breer is sitting there having conversations hey it's to a 50 million dollar player well they didn't get the job done and now they have to ask themselves it's to a 55 million dollar quarterback. So I really don't know I wish I had a better answer for you but this last extension with Trevor Lawrence really changed the landscape but hey if you're sold on to us then I would encourage that front office to absolutely get a deal done because we have no idea what this landscape is going to look like in a few months next year with the looming contracts for Jordan Love, Dak Prescott guys like that.

Yeah man they're going to pay to her they're going to have to pay them 60 next year I don't see that happen. Hey Jordan where can people follow you and all your work at CBS Sports? thank you so much to our guest in the last break uh jordan dijani joined us from cbs sports we talked all things nfl took a quick look on who and what we should pay attention to with training camp upon us he feels that even the Tennessee titans have a chance to win the afc south and i don't know about that one jordan i'll leave you on that i will see what we'll see what happens eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven that's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven we have matt moore who will come through and join us next hour from the action network as we need to take a deeper dive into what the hell is going on with the denver nuggets who are on the cusp as soon as russell westbrook is free from the utah jazz he's expected to be a member of the nuggets i can't wait to see how that works out no harm and no foul and i also told you before the break that there's a new name reportedly that's going to be on a new stadium we'll get to that in a bit hickey in in the break while marco was delivering the news i know we talked about brawny james if there was another nba summer league guy that's been criticized through his draft stock and what have you it'd have to be zack edie the other seven foot four nba prospect who is not named victor wendyama this man went to a national championship and lost and people for the past several seasons have wondered you know how would zack edie transition over from college where he is a seven foot four monster to being in a more free-flowing ridiculously athletic nba well zack edie played his first summer league game on july 8th the grizzlies won against utah it was 97 95 zack edie caught people's attention with a stat line 14 points 15 rebounds he had had four blocks he also had a buzzer beating tip to force overtime which they they won now since then zack edie has missed like the next five or six grizzlies games with a busted up angle hickey can you believe that about 15 20 minutes ago zack edie went to block a shot because he's seven foot four what else are you gonna do zack edie went up zack edie came down on his ankle zack edie is out for the game with ice on that ankle now look you can sprain an ankle anytime you can your basketball player you better learn what a sprained ankle is it's going to happen unless you're just a terrible player with no effort you gonna sprain your ankle but when you're seven foot four and you've been out a week two weeks with a busted up lingering ankle injury and then you sprain your ankle and you're seven foot four and people already have concerns about whether you could run move and jump hickey is zack edie gonna be good for the grizzlies this year or is he just gonna be the next giant big man that couldn't stay healthy i hope it's the former i'm not rooting against him is he let me ask you this is he the first player in summer league history to be injured and then not held out for the rest of summer league oh wow you got a good well i mean that's a good question i feel like anytime like these guys sneeze oh okay he's done all right you know call it a wraps put it in bubble wrap like i'm truly shocked that he's even back out there again tonight um just after injuring the ankle the first time like you just see so many guys just shut it down just because it's not at this stage of the year it's not worth it lingering ankle issue you gotta i didn't even think about that lingering ankle issue for a guy who is seven foot four and he hasn't played last time he played was july 8th today is july 18th they threw him out there and you know it's not it's an ankle injury it's not it's not like it's it's related he literally he would have sprained his ankle if he never had no ankle issues but you you bring up a very good point of why even run them i guess they feel it's that important for zach edie to get some burn here before they get to training camp it was a little bit of a shock uh when the memphis grizzlies decided to select them out of purdue with the ninth overall pick because let's let's be real and let's be honest okay if zach edie if he thought and he would know because he would hear from his agents and through the grapevine if if nba folks if nba teams if they thought that he was going to be so damn good he wouldn't have sat in college as long as he did he would have been in the nba last year but he needed to prove to everybody and i don't think he he made a jump by leaps and bounds he certainly went to a national championship that may have boosted his draft stock as well as his uh his wallet but does anybody really think anything different from zach edie and he actually went to a perfect situation with the memphis grizzlies you know steven adams has had his injuries and they done got him the hell up on out of there uh john marant has had more than injuries i don't know if his brain is also suffering from an injury with some of the decisions that he's made but the memphis grizzlies it seems like the past two years have just been lost and wasted due to injury and the stupidity of john marant and so when you think about having a jarren jackson a desmond bain mark as smart as there let's keep that in mind like what's the harm zach edie's job is really this damn easy lift your arms up bro that's it lift your arms up grab a rebound block a shot alter a shot knock down a shot if i give you the ball and pass the ball don't turn it over it's that simple it's not like zach edie got sent to some bum-ass team where he's supposed to be the centerpiece if zach edie does not work out for the grizzlies they gonna cut bait whenever they can who doesn't want a giant guy on the team just to lift his arms up it's not like they not like he's gonna he's gonna be kwame brown or something you know i just hope he can play hope he's not like greg oden that would be catastrophic good luck to zach good luck to all the rookies man brawny james having it rough until last night actually had a good game and zach edie zachary risache i don't i think yeah he's yeah he's been dropping like 15 points a game so he's good good for him congratulations all the young guys it's the jr sport re-show
