How about this? Dak Prescott explains his boot from last week. Why are you in a boot, Dak? Klay Thompson introduced as the newest member of the Dallas Mavericks. Chris Paul says, I'm going to San Antonio, not because I'm chasing a championship, but because I'm going to play.
McHale Bridges introduced to the New York Knicks. Brett Favre is trying to sue the living hell out of Shannon Sharpe again. I thought old retired dudes are supposed to get along.
I guess they can't. Elie De La Cruz is breaking records. You talk about New Blood and Major League Baseball. Elie De La Cruz is one of the most exciting guys here. Novak Djokovic is mad about, well, getting booed. He thinks he's mad about getting booed. Josh Allen has a new name.
No, not that Josh Allen, not the one in Buffalo, the one in Jacksonville who just got paid. And then we got a bunch of guests who are going to join us as well. Dieter Kurtenbach is going to join us from the Bay Area News Group. We'll talk about what happens with the Warriors now that Klay Thompson is gone. We'll get into this whole situation with Brandon Iyuk. And is he really leaving?
Is he going to force his way out? We got Kurt Heelan joining us from NBC Sports. He's out in Vegas. I want to know more about this Cooper Flagg guy. Been hearing about him for the better part of like two years now.
And then yesterday it was reported that he is out there devastating Team USA Legends. Like he's scoring on Drew Holliday and Anthony Davis. Okay. Is it only three buckets or is he impressive? There's a lot of players who find him impressive. The guy is, he didn't even make it into Duke yet.
Okay. We'll see him at Duke later on this year. John Makoto is going to join us from the Athletic to talk about the Cowboys and what's going on with Dak in this boot. And I guess this is just a busy day for Dallas.
As I told you, Klay Thompson was introduced. And so we'll talk about that to start things off before John joins us in about, I don't know, 15 or so minutes. If you want to holler at me here, you can do so as well. Phone line works. It's 855-212-4227.
That's 855-212-4227. You can find me online. I'm everywhere. I'm all over the internet. I am at JR Sportbrief.
Pretty easy guy to find. Ryan Hickey, how the hell you doing? You good? I am good today, JR. Staying out of trouble and having so far a good Tuesday.
Looking forward to what is a busy show when otherwise dead time. Oh my God. We got to talk about Mike Gundy as well. I heard he said something pretty stupid today about drinking and driving, right? That he did, yeah.
Mike Gundy, yeah, I guess you could say put his foot in his mouth for no reason trying to defend one of his players. We'll get into that later on in the show. What a crazy world.
I don't know, maybe there's something in the water. Lots of things going on. We'll get into him later on.
I'm probably going to have to read that guy, the riot act. And I guess better news, Dallas, at least in the earlier portion of the day, and I saw Vice President Kamala Harris visited Team USA basketball. We talked about the Major League Baseball All-Star game. I see Rafael Devers is already out.
So there's a lot going on today. Let's get Dallas out the way. As Dallas has been a big center, a piece of sports news today, first of all with the introduction, formerly, of Klay Thompson. Watching Klay Thompson stand on a stage holding up a blue and white jersey with the number 31 on the back is just odd as hell.
I had to think about it. I said, what number did he wear out in the Bay? I'm like, OK, Klay Thompson wore 11.
Now he's running around in the number 31. Remember, he signed a three-year, $50 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks. We heard from Steph Curry yesterday. Steph Curry is just like, whoa, I never thought that this would be something that would actually happen.
But it's a reality. And Klay Thompson was introduced, and he gave an explanation as to why he decided to leave the Warriors. A new change of scenery can do wonders, and I'm very grateful for my time at Golden State.
But I just felt like moving on could just re-energize me and do something special for the rest of my career. And Dallas was so attractive because of the young players they have, the style of play. When I was watching the playoffs and I'm watching the Mavs make a run for the championship, I just saw myself fitting in really well with this team and the personnel. And they look like they have fun playing with each other, and they play for each other, and that was very attractive for me. Yeah, he just wants the ball to get swung around his way so he can shoot threes. Oh, that's it?
That's really it? What's attractive? Well, what's attractive is he felt disrespected by the Warriors, but he wasn't going to say that. He wasn't going to sit around telling you that he was upset or a little jealous, a little envious, that Draymond Green got a contract. And Jordan Poole, before he was traded, got a contract. And Steph Curry, dammit, he might as well have a lifetime contract unless they decide to mutually part ways.
I don't see that, at least in this point in time. So Klay Thompson, he packed his bags and he went elsewhere. Have fun with Luka, have fun with Kyrie. If Kyrie stays healthy again, if Luka can just find you in the corner, you can be happy with that. This is the same Klay Thompson who blew out his knee, blew out his achilles, had 18 points a game last season, the lowest amount of points he's had since he's almost come into the league. And let's be real, unless you're LeBron James, and even he's not the case for him, he's 34 years old. I'm expecting Klay Thompson to get better. Defense is not going to be up to snuff for what it used to be. They're paying this man a knockdown threes. Oh yeah, and by the way, last year, maybe it's an aberration. He had the lowest shooting percentage from three in his career. Only 39%. I know, right? For somebody like typically him over 40, most guys would sign up for that. But we'll see how much Klay Thompson has left in the tank.
And he was asked about that as well. Hey Klay, you still going to put the ball in the basket? Still can't leave me open and I can guard and I'm just excited. I still think I can do what I've been able to do. And it's just about being in the best shape I can possibly be, but I know I can help this team, whether it's the knowledge I've gained or big scoring nights. I just still know I can be a very, very good player in this league. Okay. Very good.
That's good. You were a championship caliber player. You were a part of one of the best shooting back courts in NBA history. You got four championships. Damn it, you were upset when you were left off of the NBA's top 75 players list.
I was like, what? Klay, come on now. Come to reality. And it was very apparent last year, especially after being benched, that Klay Thompson had a little bit of an issue with his confidence.
I mean, he publicly talked about it. I wish Klay Thompson nothing but the best of luck in Dallas, but I got to tell you, am I confident that things are going to turn around? That he's going to find a resurgence? I expect the same numbers as last year. Maybe about 17 points, all on threes, and you just keep it moving. Klay Thompson, I wish you nothing but the best, but let's be real, the West is tough, man. It's stacked. I mean, do I think the Dallas Mavericks are just going to cakewalk back to the finals? I doubt it.
I really do. Good luck. It's odd seeing him with number 31 in Dallas, but sometimes a fresh start can help people, even if you're not getting older. Congratulations on the contract. And speaking of contracts, yeah, Klay Thompson, he might have got his deal. Three years, $50 million. There's another athlete who represents Dallas. He probably wants $50-plus million for one season.
Not too shabby, right? His name is Dak Prescott, and today Dak Prescott held a little bit of a press conference at his youth football camp. Now typically you would say, hey, I'm here to talk about the kids. Don't ask me about the contract. But Dak answered questions about his contract and his foot. Now I understand if you were busy over the holiday week last week and July 4th and all of this, there was a video, photos, of Dak Prescott walking around Cabo with his right foot in a walking boot. Now, if you remember, it was four years ago that Dak Prescott broke his foot, his ankle, on national television in gruesome fashion. You might remember when he returned the very next year, he naturally had to deal with some soreness in that ankle and that foot and that leg. And so fast forward here to the year 2024, when it's the offseason and you're just casually walking around with a boot on during vacation, people are trying to understand why. Especially for a dude who's entering into the final year of his contract, and Dak was asked about why he was wearing a boot on a dock in vacation, and this is what he said.
Yeah, I'm great. Honestly, I'm getting older. It's the same ankle that I snapped and had a nasty surgery on four years ago. So, yeah, a couple of hard days of training and you get a little sore and then you're going on a fishing trip and you want to protect it and make sure that things don't get worse. Literally, it's absolutely nothing. That's why people are reaching, trying to make things that they aren't. I'm getting older, have to take care of my body, have to be smart. And if I can take precautions and lessening something by putting on a boot, I'm going to do it.
And so sorry that it costs such a whirlwind. So you're just casually walking around with a boot to protect yourself? For a football player, I'm supposed to feel confident that you're going to withstand punishment and a beating in the regular season? You need a boot to walk down a dock and go fishing?
Come on, man. What are you going to do when some 330-pound dude is chasing you down and trying to squash you like a bug? This isn't some guy who just had surgery two weeks ago and is like, all right, I need to have my leg elevated, but I'm going to take my boot outside to go on vacation. This is a professional athlete. And yeah, you're going to have soreness and things are going to hurt. I'm sure that that ankle is going to bother him for the rest of his life to some degree.
But you need a walking boot? Man, if I'm the Dallas Cowboys, I'm bringing that up in negotiations. This is the last thing Dak Prescott wants to talk about.
But this really, this work, the workouts, these hard workouts must have really kicked his ass if he needs to wear a boot. And for a guy looking for a new deal? Trying to get paid 50-plus million dollars a season, whether it's from the Cowboys or somebody else? Hey, Dak, what the hell's been going on with your contract negotiations? Tell me. There's been conversations back and forth, but for the most part for me, as you all know, I'm going to let my agent do that, especially as we get right here into training camp. Day one of training camp, my mind flips to just obviously helping my team and just doing everything I can within the organization and on the football field to make sure that I'm my best and everyone around me is their best.
And the money and all that will take care of itself as it always has. Uh-huh. Wearing a boot on vacation doesn't help.
Hickey, you just came back from vacation. You weren't wearing no boot running around Italy, were you? No, sir. Sneakers, flip-flops only. No boot. No boot. This guy was wearing- he didn't think that that was going to be a cause for concern?
What the hell's going through his brain? I've never gotten deep-sea fishing. I don't know if you have, but I'm curious to know how a boot would prevent an injury when you're on a boat in the middle of the ocean.
I don't know. Maybe you plant the boot down and it helps, you know, grip if a fish- like, what are we doing? Like, what are we doing? That's how it hurts. If it's that damn- if it's that damn dangerous, then just don't go. Like, he opened himself up to criticism by saying, hey, I'm outside.
I'm in Cabo. There's no Cowboys fans. Nobody will recognize me. And we get an image of him in a boot. And is this much to do about nothing? It could be. But realistically, it's cause for concern. I mean, if this is the offseason, oh, you're just going through tough workouts now and you're just wearing a boot on vacation? Like, come on, man.
Precautionary reasons? Not for a guy looking for his next payday. Look, God bless Klay Thompson. Three years, $50 million. Dak Prescott is looking for his 50.
He wants 50 minimum a year, I'm sure. And he's running around in the summertime with a boot. Next time, Dak, if you want to be a little bit more interesting for us, just get pushed in a wheelchair. I found that to be more entertaining. Wear two boots. Walk around with crutches on vacation.
Let me know how that goes next time. It's the JR Sportbree Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to get into Brett Favre. Seems like he hates the guts of Shannon Sharpe. We're going to talk about Cooper Flagg and Eli De La Cruz. We're going to talk about Djokovic, Mike Gundy with some stupid comments on drunk driving. Yes, a college football coach had a dumb thing to say about drunk driving. What is he, the coach of Georgia?
I don't know. We got a lot to get into. But on the other side of the break, you know, let's put a bow on this conversation about Dak. What the hell is going on with his foot? What's going on with his contract? What's going on with the Dallas Cowboys? Joining us on the other side, John Makoto. Covers the Cowboys for the athletic. We'll have him on the other side. The JR Sport Brief Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. We had to do a lot of talking about Dallas to open up the show. Klay Thompson introduced today as the newest member of the Dallas Mavericks.
And of course, Dallas Cowboys gotta be in the mix. Dak Prescott holding his yearly camp in South Lake, Texas. And he's asked about a few things.
His contract extension, which is not done, may never come. And then also asked about this walking boot that he was in in Cabo over the holiday. And so Dak Prescott had a lot of questions to answer. Right now we have a lot of questions to John Machado, who's joining us from The Athletic, who covers the Dallas Cowboys. John, how are you, man? I'm doing well. Thanks for having me on.
And thank you for taking the time. I know you were at the camp earlier today. We saw the video of Dak walking around. Prior to you joining us, we heard what he had to say.
What are your thoughts on what you saw today and what he said? It's funny because this is the time of year when you cover a team. You're trying to get in your vacation time.
You don't take any vacation time during the season. And then the NFL is structured their off season where you really don't have a lot of time. So I'm technically on vacation right now, but if it's one of those things where it's like the contract, the picture that surfaced around the 4th of July of him in the boot, I'm just like, I have to go to this camp. This is part of the job.
You've just got to do it. I do think there was a lot made of it because, well, he's the quarterback of the Cowboys. He's going into a contract year. He's obviously one of the better players in the NFL. He finished second in the MVP voting last year. So he's one of the most popular people in the NFL.
He's one of the most popular people in sports. Because of that, I think it's one of those things where people are going to see him in a boot and they're going to be like, well, this isn't good right before the season is about to start. And it's the same ankle that he hurt in the 2020 season at season ending surgery. So I don't think it's anything that's going to keep him from doing everything that he's asked of him in training camp.
I don't think it's anything major to be concerned about. But I do also understand why things like this, especially with social media, they gain steam pretty quickly. John Machoda is joining us from the athletic. Having said that, this is a reminder that this man's ankle snapped in horrific fashion a few years ago. He had an issue with the leg the following year after that. And yeah, we're a few years removed. But is this not a reminder that this is probably going to be something that will linger, he'll be sore here and there, feel it every now and then throughout the rest of his career?
Yeah, there's no question about that. It's just one of those type injuries that when the bone breaks in that type of a way and there's a dislocation, the bone goes to the skin. I mean, yeah, medical technology is incredible and the fact that he's even able to get back out there the following season in play is amazing.
But with that being said, I mean, it's still the human body. So I would think that, yeah, there's probably going to be some residual effects probably for the rest of his life. When I first saw the walking boot, though, I would say the thing that I thought about was he's one of those guys that I'm sure a lot of your listeners and you have probably heard has a full football field in his backyard. It's like a 50-yard field and it's where a lot of the receivers, tight ends, running backs, they'll go work out with Jack in this time of year, in this offseason. So when I first saw the boot, the thing I thought of was like I wonder if he pushed it too hard because this is not a guy that, you know, there's players in all kinds of sports where you're like, you know, hey, what's the player going to look like when they come in, you know, from the offseason?
Like what kind of shape they're going to be in? You never worry about that with Dak Prescott. So I thought maybe he pushed a little too far, but he says that's not the case, that it was just a precautionary type thing and so I'll take him at his word.
Jon covers the Cowboys for the Athletic. Moving forward, what does this mean for his contract? Do you think we'll see a deal done between now and September? Are they going to wait this out until the end of the year?
What do you think is going on? Yes, I mean, to me it ultimately comes down to Jerry Jones from the Cowboys side. I mean, this isn't going to be something that gets done unless Jerry wants to do it. And so going off of how little they've done in the offseason and then just the fact that there's so many people on the team and then also on the coaching staff that are in the final year or in one-year deals, there's a part of me that thinks that they're going to let Dak play this out and reassess everything after the season's over to see if they can finally make a deep playoff run. I think it's a risky move, but it seems like that's what they're thinking because if they weren't, they would have gotten a contract extension done with him before free agency started. They would have given him the, whatever, $55 million, whatever would have been the resetting at that time. And they didn't.
And so to sit here today, it makes me think that they're going to let them play out this season. And that has, just to be clear, nothing to do with anything with his ankle or anything like that. I mean, you don't need any better example than that 20-20 ankle injury. He had that season-ender, signed that contract, the current one he's under, that offseason. I remember him going to the podium and talking about it, and you could still see that huge scar on his ankle. He still wasn't 100% yet, and he still got this massive deal and got everything you could want. The no trade clause, the no franchise tag clause.
So that ankle has nothing to do with it. I could see Jerry, and I say Jerry specifically because I could see others in the organization being like, let's just get this done. But I think Jerry wants him to play it out. Yeah, Jon Machoda is joining us from The Athletic. You talk about everybody kind of having a sweat out this year. It was reported months ago that even Mike McCarthy, who had this kind of twist and a win for a little while before he was officially brought back, that he's not happy with the situation. Who would be happy with the situation?
What is the plan? Is Jerry going to just let everybody sweat through this year and then maybe blow this up? He might be playing with fire, no?
Absolutely, but I do think that's what he's doing. The Cowboys have never, I shouldn't say never, but over the last decade plus, they haven't been a team that does very much in free agency and in terms of trades around that time of year when most teams are making at least minimal moves, the Cowboys usually don't do much. And they did even less. This is the least amount any team has done in the offseason by far to add to their roster. And so that to me was a clear sign that, oh, and then Jerry's saying over and over again, he's saying the all-in thing, and he's saying it like I have a different definition.
Well, he does. Most of us all-in means, oh, you're going to be really aggressive in the offseason and add pieces and fill holes. To Jerry, it's I'm all-in on this season, and that's what I think he means is that I'm going to have everybody that is under contract, they're going to kind of sweat this thing out because we're all-in on this season because it is going to be all-in because if this has the same ending that the last few have had, then we'll probably go in another direction. And so the key thing in all of this is that we're removed from January. Several months have gone by, but if you just factor in what the Dallas Cowboys did the last time as a football team, they were on the field, it's hard to sit there and say that Jerry's crazy for thinking that way because I'll make the argument that's the worst loss in Cowboys franchise history that they're coming off of.
I mean, when you factor in how talented that team was, relatively healthy at that time, getting lucky with getting the two-seed and getting home field advantage for a team that had been by far the NFL's best team at home for the last two years, and to lay the egg they did, down 32 midway through the fourth quarter, it's easy to blame Jerry for everything, and he deserves a lot of blame for 28 years out of the Super Bowl, but to just sit there and say he's crazy for wanting them to just play this out and possibly go in another direction, well, maybe you didn't watch that Green Bay wild card game. John Machoda joining us from the Athletic. When you think about, and not just Dak, Michael Parsons is looking for his money, it's C.D. Lamb is looking for his money, who's most likely to get their cash at some point? Is it Micah? He's probably the best choice to not go anywhere.
Is it C.D. Lamb or both of them and not the quarterback? I think right now, and it really has been all offseason, it remains it's C.D. Lamb because Dak will be at training camp, Micah will be at training camp, C.D. will not be at training camp without a new deal, and we just go back one year and Zach Martin went into training camp, he wasn't at the start of training camp because he wanted his deal readjusted and additional years added on, and so because of that, and to get a pay raise obviously, the Cowboys eventually gave him what he wanted, and so if you're C.D.
Lamb, why would you think any differently? He's so important to the team, much like Zach Martin is, he has done everything you could ask of him over the last four seasons, you only have to watch his games, just look at his stats, every single stat category just seems to improve every single year he's been a Cowboy, and so he won't be an Oxnard unless he has a new deal, and so because of that, he has the most leverage right now, and so because of that, that's usually what leads to deals, and I do think that either they'll get something done with C.D. right before training camp starts, or maybe a few weeks into training camp and he doesn't show up, but ultimately when it's said and done, I do think they get something done before the season starts, and I don't see C.D. Lamb missing regular season games.
Hey John, I assume that C.D. is looking at a deal in that 35 mill range, is he looking to jump ahead of Mr. Jefferson? That's a good question, he hasn't really wanted to talk about any of that, he has said to us how long, I would say it was probably the last month or so, maybe December or January was one of the last times that he really talked about this, and he did say that he doesn't absolutely need to be the highest paid, but he needs to be up there, and then he said something similar, it was after the season was over, so it was late January on Micah Parsons' podcast, where it was like, he doesn't have to be the highest paid, but he'd like to be one of, and I don't think that that's changed, and so I would say that Justin Jefferson deal, like you mentioned at 35, I think that's right around the ballpark, 33 to 35 is probably what he's looking for. John, last question for you, when you think about the quarterback of the team who might be entering into his last year, do you think it'll be his last year, or is this just a tough time to think about in the summer? That is a great question, because making it this far without him getting a contract extension pushes it closer to 50-50 than most people would think that it would ever get to, just because, forget the Cowboys or Dak, just to have a franchise quarterback who's one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the league generally at 30, 31 years old, those guys usually don't hit the free agent market, and so because of that, I ultimately think something gets done, I do think Dak will still be on the Cowboys well into the future, you factor in how good he's been for the organization, you factor in what the organization was like during those years between Troy Aikman and then finding Tony Romo, and then you factor in Jerry Jones' age, I just find it hard to believe that he's going to play hardball and be willing to go into next season with major question marks at the most important position, so it could get interesting, there could be some good drama, but I think ultimately it gets done. Okay, well I mean you talk about those in-between years, I heard that Vinny Testaverdi and Drew Bledsoe, I think their arms still work just a little bit, we can see what they're doing. They don't want to do that again.
I'm sure they don't. Hey John, thank you for the time, where can people follow you and your work? Yeah, definitely follow me on Twitter, it's at John Machota, so John with O-H-M-A-C-H-O-T-A, and then at The Athletic, if you're not subscribed to The Athletic, please do subscribe, not just for my work, but I have a lot of great colleagues there as well, so definitely subscribe if you're not. Hey, between now and training camp, I hope you get a little bit of downtown John, I hope, I hope. I appreciate that, I hope so too. Alright, thank you so much, that John Machota from The Athletic, who covers all things Dallas Cowboys, as it is in Dallas Cowboys land, Dak Prescott had to explain why his foot was in a boot, he had to give an update on his contract, and who knows what will happen between now and the end of the month, when the Dallas Cowboys head out to Oxnard for training camp. I'm sure we'll get a lot of the same questions rehashed.
It's the world that we live in. It's the J.R. Sportbreef Show here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Dak wasn't the only person to hold a press conference, so I just saw DeMar DeRozan had a press conference. Earlier today, the newest, or the latest New York Knicks was introduced to the media. It's difficult for me to even think that the Knicks had a press conference.
I thought they were afraid of those things. We're going to hear from Mikel Bridges on the other side. We've got a lot to get into. We're going to get back into some more NFL. Speaking of quarterbacks, Brett Favre seemingly hates Shannon Sharpe. I have to watch my words because Brett Favre, he might sue me, you never know.

Member NYSE SIPC. Here's why April chose to vaccinate her child. I think actually meeting someone who was not vaccinated and now has a lifelong struggle with a childhood disease really cemented for me that it's super important that we as parents continue to vaccinate our children.

That's 855-212-4227. Thank you to John Michauda for joining us in the last break to talk about, what else, the Dallas Cowboys. It wouldn't be a Cowboys offseason if there wasn't some drama. Mike McCarthy is sick of his working conditions. CeeDee Lamb wants a contract. Micah Parsons wants a contract. Dak Prescott walking around in a boot. Only like last week, okay, just last week, nothing to see, nothing to see here.
Dak Prescott also entering into a contract year after having what was his best season in the NFL. And Jerry Jones is just, I guess, sitting around in his lair twiddling his fingers, just waiting on everybody to jump, I guess. If I make everybody uncomfortable, then maybe things will happen. Good things will happen.
Otherwise, I blow it up. We'll see what happens in Dallas. I expect there to be more news between now and training camp.
Let's see. Anyway, Jerry Jones playing with fire. When we get to the top of the hour, I want to talk to you about a head coach in college football, Big 12 Media Day. Mike Gundy of Oklahoma State had some words about his star running back who was arrested on suspicion of DUI. And I got to tell you, this is one of the dumbest things I've heard. I guess you would expect the head coach to be intelligent. It's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard come out of a I guess an intelligent person's mouth.
We'll hear from Mike Gundy. Just some awful words. I'm going to say they're awful words at the top of the hour.
Just disgusting. You'll hear it at the top of the hour. Anyway, let's get to some happy news first. Maybe people in New York are happy.
Well, I know they're happy. Because New York Knicks fans, the ones that like basketball, not the people in Brooklyn. But New York Knicks fans, they're happy they have McHale Bridges. And somehow, someway, the New York Knicks who nobody would confuse with being a smartest organization when it comes to the media, you would think Mike Gundy went there to learn some things.
The New York Knicks introduced him to the public today. And McHale Bridges, who was traded in a six team trade and is now a member of the New York Knicks over from Brooklyn. I'm mixing up the trades. Hickey, that's the wrong trade, isn't it? Wrong trade.
Damn. That was DeRozan to... No, the six man one was Clay. DeRozan wasn't involved in that? I don't believe so.
I could be wrong. Harrison Barnes went to San Antonio. Right.
And then Clay went to Dallas. Right. The Sixers were involved with some money, I think. Oh my god. Sixteen. Warriors.
Oh my, what is this? The Hornets were involved. The Dallas Mavericks, Timberwolves, Warriors, Nuggets, the biggest trade in NBA history.
How about that? First ever six team trade. Anyway, good for McHale Bridges. He got the hell out of Brooklyn.
That's big enough as it is. And now he's teaming up with his old college buddies and Jalen Brunson and Dante DiVincenzo and Josh Hart. And now the New York Knicks are expected to do something nice, right? You got OGN and OBE there, big ol' wing. You got McHale Bridges, a versatile defending wing at six foot six. And McHale Bridges is with his friends. Imagine staring out the window, watching your friends play outside, and you're on punishment.
They are literally yards away from you, right outside the window. But you can't go outside. McHale Bridges has been on punishment with the Brooklyn Nets since he was moved over from Phoenix. And now he gets a chance to play in the Big Boy Arena. No disrespect to the Barclays Center.
But he gets an opportunity to play with his friends, his college buddies, his championships at Villanova and Madison Square Garden. And so today he was introduced as the newest member of the New York Knicks. And of course, naturally, he said, I'm excited. I'm fired up and ready to go. I'm excited to be here. Excited to be a Knick. You know, excited to play MSG. Excited to see my guy, Spike Corsot. I don't know, just great to be here.
You know, obviously, just the team we have and Tibbs and everybody. You know, I want to thank a lot of people. Thank Leon. Thank my agent, Sam and Jordan. You know, thanks to the Nets organization, everybody. You know, they've been great since I've been there.
So, you know, just really appreciative and, you know, excited to get to work. I hate that it's the summer because you got to wait, you know, a long time to play. But I'm really excited. How about that? There was a point in time where nobody was excited to be a New York Knick. There was a gap in time where nobody wanted to sign up for this, what used to be a mess. Now the Knicks are actually an attractive destination.
How about that? Even with head coach Tom Thibodeau leading the way. I mean, there was an informal players association survey. And the players said that Tom Thibodeau is the coach that they would most not want to play for.
Because he has a reputation of driving players into the ground. Guys like Lou Aldang. Man, maybe they even take a look at Derrick Rose and go, Tom Thibodeau did that. McHale Bridges, an iron man in the NBA, he basically plays every single game.
He says, man, I ain't got no time for that. I want to play basketball. I mean, it's great. I know Thibodeau is a great coach. I think, I mean, one thing, who doesn't want to play?
Who doesn't want to play all the time? And just who he is. Just how he embodies and how structured he is. That's where I came from.
That's high school, college. Coach Mani as well. Those guys, you know, I fit for that.
Yeah, I know everybody says all them jokes about Tibbs and stuff. I'm like, y'all must not have been watching me at Phoenix because Coach Mani will play me 48 minutes. The man played me 50-some minutes against Darren Fox in Sacramento. Y'all know how fast they play and I was sick. I was sick as a bat. Literally out there, couldn't breathe and I'm playing 50-some minutes. I was on the freaking chair after we won.
Laid out. Now I don't think Mani knew I was sick either, but he was just like, look at him, that's what we do. I'm like, let's just get on this damn plane, please. Yeah, it's always crazy. People make fun of Tom Thibodeau and he drives players into the ground. I say to myself, do you see all the guys who get hurt in the NBA now? Like, it's like everybody's hurt and nobody plays. But for whatever reason, I mean, we can hit the fast forward button 10 plus years from now. People are still blaming Coach Thibodeau for just guys not playing.
Like, what are we doing here? Who's getting hurt? Are we going to blame Mitchell Robinson for being just injured all the time? That's not Tip's fault. Sometimes people get a reputation and it never breaks.
Never does. He does get a chance to play with his old teammates. People that he won championships with at Villanova, he's a two-time champ.
He went to the finals with Phoenix, he has some experience. Mikel Bridges says, oh yeah, I fit in well with the whole roster. Looking at the team last year and stuff, I think I fit in really well. Obviously, you got two all-team guys with J.B. and Julius. How I play basketball is just a good brand of basketball.
I know how to make winning plays, play the right way. I think I fit in pretty well. I think he fits in pretty well, too. I think the New York Knicks just have to figure out what happens at the center position now that Isaiah Hartenstein is a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Hopefully they can get a center somewhere. Because banking on Mitchell Robinson to be healthy all season is an exercise in futility.
Man, if this dude plays more than 50, 60 games, I consider it to be a shot. It's kind of crazy how the New York Knicks have all this talent in now. People don't even talk about Julius Randle. And I hope by the time the basketball is actually played that between Brunson and Randle and all these other dudes, I hope they get along.
They will. But is Julius Randle going to get along with them? And then, what the hell is going on with Mitchell Robinson?
Because the New York Knicks, they need a center that's actually going to play basketball. And like I said, you cannot blame Coach Thibodeau for everything. Jalen Brunson is a Knick because of Thibodeau and his dad being on the staff.
I can go on down the list. Tom Thibodeau is a key reason why the New York Knicks have been able to have success. And I mean, has he driven anybody into the ground yet? I think in the case of Josh Hart in the playoffs last year, I think he kind of had no choice. And good luck to the New York Knicks. Congratulations to Mikel Bridges. I think when Jalen Brunson was introduced, I don't think there was a member of the media available. All is well in Knicks land, for now at least. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you on the Infinity Sports Network.
Man, we've already gone through a lot. We've talked about the introduction of Klay Thompson to the media in Dallas. We talked about Dak Prescott and why the hell he was wearing a boot over the holiday. We talked about his contract. We spoke to John Michauda from the Athletic who covers the Cowboys. And I just told you about Mikel Bridges who actually praised Tom Thibodeau.
Something that you won't see too often. We're going to take a break. When we come back on the other side, I have to tell you about a coach who I will not praise. His name is Mike Gundy. He's the head coach of Oklahoma State.
He said one of the dumbest things that I have really ever heard in my life from someone you would expect to be a responsible human being. I'll tell you what happened today. I'll fill you in on what the hell is going on with his running back Ollie Gorton and why Mike Gundy, I gotta tell you, this man's an idiot.
