Pastor Bryan Loritts, a father of three sons and author of the book, "The Dad Difference," talks with Dave and Ann Wilson about the difference between a headwind father and a tailwind father. Absent, abusive, or passive fathers are headwinds forcing their children to squander much of their adulthood undoing what their fathers did or did not do. Jeffrey Dean, author of the book, "Raising Successful Teens," knows that raising a successful teen is less about perfection and more about pursuit. Encouraging your kids to make good grades, get into a good college, and marry well is fine, but Dean says parents should have a bigger goal than that. Dean believes parents should be intentional about raising kids who love the Lord above all else. To see that happen, parents have to recalibrate their definition of success. Bob Lepine, with hosts Dave and Ann Wilson, sit down with Jennifer Greenberg, author of the book "Not Forsaken," as she tells her story of growing up with a father who was teaching Sunday School at church while at the same time being physically, sexually, and emotionally abusive at home. Jennifer would have nightmares about being raped, and expected to die before turning 21. Hear the chilling details of the moment her father actually confessed out loud, "You're gonna have to accept that I'm evil." But also find the hope Jennifer found in Genesis 50:20, "You meant evil against me; but God meant it for good." The only way to really love like you mean it is to show the attributes of love used by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 13. Hosts Dave and Ann Wilson sit down with Bob Lepine to discuss his new book on godly love, which is patient, kind, etc. Learn why niceness merely responds, but kindness initiates. A wife serving her husband in tangible ways in the home. A husband filling his wife's car with gas to relieve that worry. Both are acts of lovingkindness and a reflection of a God whose "lovingkindness is better than life." Dive deep into 1 Corinthians 13 as Bob Lepine, along with hosts Dave and Ann Wilson, discuss the counter-intuitive principles of love God has given for lifelong relationships. According to 1 Corinthians, the Christian's job description starts with long-suffering, rugged, durable patience, not adrenaline-rush feelings. Discover the two best words to describe "agape" love. Ponder how God demonstrated His love for us (Romans 5:8). Find hope for any spouse who feels alone in offering this 1 Corinthians 13 kind of love in their marriage, and how to continue to show compassion and grace while also remembering that patience does not mean enabling destructive behavior. FamilyLife Today hosts Dave and Ann Wilson interview Bob Lepine about his new book, "Love Like You Mean It," and the marriage-transforming truths found in 1 Corinthians 13. Unfortunately, many of us use the phrase "I love you" too casually. Our view of love is based more on how marriage makes us feel rather than how we make our spouse feel. But according to Jesus, the greatest experience of love, in marriage and in life, is found only by those who lay down their lives for the people around them. Learn one practical tip on how to know whether you are displaying biblical love. Blending a family isn't easy, but it's definitely worth it. Blended family expert Ron Deal reminds couples that their marriage must be a priority if the marriage is going to thrive. Each couple is called to leave and cleave, which means a couple must shift their allegiance from their children to each other. There will always be seasons when children's needs will have to come ahead of other things, but a husband and wife need to put each other first to maintain a healthy marriage. Will my kids abandon the faith? Authors Sean McDowell and J. Warner Wallace realize this is a question on the heart of parents. While some insist that teaching kids the truth will keep them tethered to their faith, others believe that relationships are the key. In reality, kids need both. Authors Elyse Fitzpatrick and Eric Schumacher talk about the role of women in the church. In years past, women were often frowned upon and thought less of than men. Women have made great strides through the years: socially, educationally, and economically. But are women considered equal once they step through the church doors? Best-selling author and church history professor Jerry Sittser gives us a peek into the lives and marriages of the early Christians who were an influence for good in the Roman culture. How did they do that? Early Christians valued marriage and children, unlike their Roman contemporaries who divorced at will and practiced abortion and infanticide. Early Christ followers also upheld their vows of faithfulness, and even took in abandoned babies left to die. Christians also had a strong sexual ethic, and valued the lives of all, including singles, widows, and orphans.
