Draft of Lamar Jackson trade destinations l Michael Forrest, FAU guard l Brian Gutekunst says Aaron Rodgers has ignored the Packers this offseason

Now we're number two of our radio program. That's right, it is the Zach Gelb show, Coast to Coast on CBS Sports Radio. The man that knocked down four crucial free throws for the Owls. So Florida Atlantic Michael Forrest is gonna stop by coming up 20 minutes from now. But first, the biggest news of the day, Lamar Jackson, we found out today in a series of tweets from the man himself while John Harbaugh was speaking to the media. Lamar Jackson goes, wait, is coach on the day?

So he is. All right, press send. Let's go. We got these saved up in the draft probably for three weeks. And he makes it clear that he requested a trade from the Ravens on March 2nd. So now, Hickey, we're gonna do a little draft. I don't know. Do you have NFL music just wondering?

Can you get me some NFL music queued up? Oh, look at that. He came prepared today. Thought he was a little sluggish off the weekend.

I thought he was a little banged up from the weekend that he had. I may sound bad or in some people's minds sound good, but my brain is always working 24-7. Well, actually, you talk about sounding good. There's also looking good and then looking not so good.

Now, I will say, compared to some of the slobs that work around here, you're kind of at the top of the food chain when it comes to people that actually care about the way that they look. But I saw a video over the weekend and I was actually very happy. It was only like three or four seconds long because I fear for everybody's life if we saw the entire thing. You're a big Macarena guy? Oh, yeah. Like the song itself. Yeah.

Oh, yeah. It's a great song. Because there's a very popular overnight radio show Friday into Saturday from 2 to 6 a.m. Eastern that is hosted by you. And I saw from Nick Theodora, who works here behind the scenes, that he got the tail end of you dancing Friday into Saturday. How did that come about? Well, I decided to take control of my own music because I did not like a lot of the music that people were playing.

So I made my own folder. Hold on, folks. That is Hickey throwing all the part-time producers right underneath the bus. It's more their taste. My taste is very different.

It's not appreciated by a lot of people. I'm fine with that. So I just figured, okay, I'm just going to want more of my music. And one of the songs that gets me in a good mood is the Macarena. It fires you up.

I think it puts a little extra pep in the step. So I put it in there. Nick played it. And so I started feeling myself.

It was like 3.30 in the morning, loopy as hell. And I don't say you can do the, you know, hear the music and not start doing the dance. So, you know, putting the arms out, crossing them over. Which makes for great radio. Let me tell you.

Well, that's why I do. No one I thought was going to sing. So sources did tell me, like what you just said as well, that you were annoyed that Nick put that video out there. I don't know about annoyed, but I just, I don't know. I didn't know he was taking the video. Heard you did a little yelling during the break.

No, there's no. I would not yell about that. It's what a few people reach out to me over the weekend. Oh yeah. I really dressed Nick, undressed him. Well, what's the saying?

Whatever it is. Well, you basically just threw every producer underneath the bus that's ever produced your show with their music takes. So it wouldn't be shocking if the big ego of hot take hickey went up to a producer during a break and told him to sit the bleep down and don't make that video public.

Now, if he was, you know, if he was messing up, not paying attention, different story, but take it a video. I don't really care. Okay.

I'm not ashamed. I'm waiting on the audio, but I heard some audio that when you found that he was recording, you were, you were very displeased with it. I would love to hear that audio cause it's news to me as well. So we'll listen to it and just hopefully he's edited.

I have no idea, but maybe we'll just listen to it raw and see where it goes. Jack start now. You think we're doctoring the audio? No, I'm not saying doctor at all. Okay. Again, I can't recall, you know, my memory unfortunately does not work that way. All right, Roger Clemens.

You misremembered. Hey, happy to the best of us. Let's get to this draft.

Five destinations for Lamar Jackson. I have a Euro in my, uh, in my wallet still for my trip to Barcelona. So the one will represent heads and the stars on the back represent tails. Oh, you have like a coin. Okay. So you're talking about like a dollar bills.

How do you flip that? Okay. So it's a one a Euro. It's a coin.

You ready? Tails stars. And it is the one.

So it is heads. How about that? I will start off. Now, do you want to let's do this the most likely, but the likeliest destinations remember picking, if he's traded the teams he's going to now, where we want him to go, where he'd be a good fit, where he actually will be traded to. Number one, the first pick in the Lamar Jackson draft, the Indianapolis Colts.

And here's why. First off, it would be a smart move. But secondly, I want to see how Hickey is going to handle this because he has made it clear. He does not want Lamar Jackson. And usually the way that this works with Hickey and the Colts, the players he wants, they don't get. And the guys that he does not prefer, they end up getting, I think this would be a smart move.

Hickey not liking it also makes me think that it would work out as well. And I believe that Indianapolis is desperate, very, very, very, very desperate for Lamar Jackson. Very, very, very desperate because remember that bozo of an owner that you have in Jim Ursae guaranteed two Lombardi trophies this decade. Don't hold your breath because if you're holding your breath waiting for that to happen, you will probably die because there's no shot that the Colts end up getting two Super Bowls in this decade, but they want to improve their chances. They'll go get Lamar Jackson. So I take Indianapolis. Okay, the Colts are off the board. My first pick will be the Atlanta Falcons. They need him.

He'd be a great fit. I don't care if they say they're not interested. Right. They're interested. They're playing coy.

I think that's the team most likely to get them. So that was going to be my second destination on my power board. So then I will go to who's going to be three. Where there's smoke, there's fire. And for whatever the reasons were today, Robert Kraft wanted everyone to know that Meek Mill told him, which is by the way, a very power move by, by Robert Kraft. Everyone knew about your relationship with Meek Mill, but Meek Mill informed him that Lamar wants to be a Patriot. There's a reason why Robert Kraft wanted to make that that information public tonight.

It could be just to sound cool, or it could be that he wants him and he'll give whatever it takes to go get him. But ultimately, as Robert Kraft said, it's up to Bill Belichick. I think where there's smoke, there's a fire. I'll put the Patriots as my second pick. All right, you go to AFC teams. I will then go to NFC teams.

Man, you're going to take one of my teams. I feel like here, the Washington commanders, Lamar Jackson does not have to leave the States. It would either be a great move for the brand new ownership or be a great departing gift from Dan Snyder to the fan base. It makes all the sense in the world. I don't care what they say about Sam Howell, just like the Falcons. I don't care.

They say about Dezen Ritter do it, make the move. That's what, how you're going to get your fans back into the stadium. So I did have them as my fourth team actually, but you know what? Even though I probably would have selected them, they were still available because it's good value. If I had a, if my third round pick, they were there, they're still available. For some reason, even though I think 100% they should pursue Lamar Jackson, I think this off season, they're actually not going to pursue him.

This is an organization and I know maybe new ownership could change that, but who knows when that process is going to get finalized, you see a different report every day. But this is a team with Ron Rivera, where when it comes to the quarterback, they just send weird messages the last three years. And for some reason, even though probably no one should believe that they're not going to pursue Lamar Jackson, I actually believe that they're telling the truth on that front, even though, let me be clear, I disagree with it. So my next pick now, this is where it gets a little bit tricky because Atlanta's off the board, the commanders off the board, the Colts are off the board and the Vikings. Oh wait, excuse me. The Pats are off the board.

Oh, it'll slip there. Well, I'll go Vikings then. Now the Ravens could get Kirk Cousins back in a deal. Maybe that this takes more than a year, then Kirk Cousins is off the, the, the, the payroll of the Minnesota Vikings. And then they could go get in the year after that, but I'll go Minnesota.

So my first three picks Colts, Pats, and Vikings, yours, the Falcons commanders and team number three is. My arch nemesis, the thorn in my side for years, a head coach. I would love to just get in an octagon with and fight, even though he would break me in half. Why don't you want to fight Mike Vrabel? He's a good dude. I just hate him.

Oh, why? Because your team sucks? Because yes, I keep losing to him. I just hate how he stands there all smug, standing with his arms crossing the sideline. I just, he has a punchable face in my opinion.

And again, I couldn't get close to him. He would murder me. So it's not a fight I'm willing to actually take.

What are you talking about? Him and Rod Brindimore actually the two coaches I would love to fight the most right now in sports. And they both would kill me.

Well, I'm just saying that's, I'm, I'm, I'm very cognizant of that, but those are just how my brain works. If I, if they could not punch back, those are the two coaches I'd pick right now. Honestly, even if they couldn't punch back, I still think they would beat you in a fight. I think you punching either of those two gentlemen, your hands would hurt. Well, they have strong jaws and they have very strong builds.

I'm not disagreeing with that. Although I could pack a punch, but anyway, yes, I will pick the Titans. They're not committal and Ryan Tannehill today, Mike Vrabel says he will not commit to anyone being on the roster in September right now in March. They have to do it.

I think there's a chance they will do it. You're like Nate and Ted Lasso. Even when you think you're a bad-ass, we all know you're not a bad-ass. I have only seen like three episodes, which who's Nate? He was the, the former manager that ends up becoming a coach for the, the rival team. Oh, okay. Okay.

But he's, he spits in a mirror and then he puts on this persona, like he's this big, tough guy. Hmm. Kind of like that. Yeah.

It's inspirational. Now start doing that. We're going to follow Hickey to the bathroom next time. Take the mirrors down around here. There'll be a lot of spit in the mirror. Geez Louise.

Oh, we've seen a lot of bathroom photos recently in this office. Do you see down the hall today? No.

Craig Cardin from the number one afternoon drive show in New York, Cardin Roberts. He posted a photo today of his pants on the ground while he was dropping or what I assuming was him dropping a number two. Yeah. He posted that himself?

Uh-huh. Is there a caption? Is there a caption? Uh, I don't have the photo in front of me. I'm pulling it up right now just to see what. Let's go to his Twitter page. You can't miss it.

Interesting. Just his pants. He also looks like brought a rug in there.

Barely made it to the bathroom. You're right. Now that, that doesn't look like our bathrooms, right? This is, I got to look at the tiles when I get back or at a break.

I don't know. I don't think that's in our bathroom. And also we, I know we don't have rugs in our bathroom.

They would never pay for those around here. And I don't think Craig has a portable rug with him. But you never know it, Craig. Interesting. All right. There you go. There's more information that may or may not be needed. So maybe I'll choose not to follow you to the bathroom today.

Cause you never know what happens in our bathrooms. All right. So you go Falcons, commanders and Tennessee. I take Indianapolis, new England and Minnesota. This is where it gets tricky. The three teams each the race to five.

This is where it gets fun. Four picks left total. So I'm going to operate this team as a team that won't do it this year, but then maybe next year. And that's going to be the Miami dolphins where I don't think they will make Lamar Jackson their quarterback this year.

They will stick with Tua, but I can't trust that Tua is going to get through an entire season healthy. And then after this year, they may look for a new team. So I will bank on the value and the long process here of maybe Lamar doesn't get dealt this year. You dipped into the NFC North with the Vikings. I will also dip into the NFC North.

I'm going to go the lions. Two first round picks. And by the way, at least I read the terms of a proposed offer sheet trade. It's one first round pick this year, one first round pick next year. And I believe it's the lesser of the two first round picks. So if you're the Lions, you could trade for Lamar Jackson and also keep the number six overall pick, which is massive for Detroit. I think the Lions are a player to watch out for.

So excuse me on this. When you said that you read a potential offer, is that just someone speculating? Like what happens if a team does have two first round picks? Well, they just get both from this year.

Is that? No, I believe how it works is which one in twenty twenty three and one in twenty twenty four. And that's negotiated that it's like cemented in. And so it's not just the Ravens can't say I want to first round picks six and eighteen this year. It's one in the first round this year, one in the first round next year. And this from one tweet I saw now, I did not fact check. So, yeah, I could be wrong, but at least this is from, I believe, a trusted source, or at least a verified account.

That's the lesser of the two first round picks in Detroit's case, which. Well, actually, what does a verified account mean anymore these days? Did you see every? Is that true that if you have a a original blue checkmark that you're losing it on April 1st? Did you see that news on Twitter? I did not, but I would not believe it is April 1st. April 1st is April Fool's Day. April Fool's Day.

And I don't I could easily see Elon Musk playing a joke on everybody or having people panic for whatever reason. Now, I don't like it. They want to take away my blue checkmark.

Go ahead. Take away my blue checkmark. But from the business model standpoint, if you are trying to get people to pay for the blue checkmark, you take away everyone that has their blue checkmark checkmark, you will have some losers in the media that will pay for that blue checkmark. I will not be one of them. If they want to take away my blue checkmark, take it away.

I am paying you whatever you want for the blue checkmark. Will not happen. Now, if the company, which they won't, if they want to pay for it, then that's one thing.

But I don't think the company is going to pay for that. That's just my guess. Last team for me.

This gets tricky. I will go. I don't love this team and I don't think they'll do it.

But there's definitely a need. Tampa. I'll go Tampa. So my five Colts, Pats, Vikings, Miami, and Tampa, your five Atlanta commanders, Tennessee, Detroit, and I'm going to go way out on a limb here. The Los Angeles Rams. I think something's brewing there.

They are talking about a tear down. I don't think Sean McVay's come back for a rebuild. I think they're trying to clear cap space for some reason. I will say it's to make a run at Lamar Jackson.

I'll go wild card off the cuff here. Rams is the fifth team. By the way, did you see the coaches picture today?

Yes. Did you see Sean McVay? Everyone was talking about Brian Debo looking cool. I think Sean McVay was the coolest. I think that Sean McVay looking like he really doesn't care. That's just me. I think McVay is half-assing this year.

That was my interpretation of it. All right, we'll take a break on the Zach Gelb show. FAU is off to the Final Four.

What a wonderful story and a man that hit four big free throws down the stretch up against Kansas State as Michael Forrest from the FAU Owls is kind enough to join us right now.

Michael Zach Gelb here in New York City. Appreciate the time and congratulations. Thank you. I'm glad to be here. So when you hear that your team, your school, FAU is going to the Final Four, just how do you process that?

Man I'm usually at a loss for words just because you dream of a game like this as a kid. So just for all this to be happening is amazing. When did it really sink in? Like in the moment was it holy crap we're going to the Final Four?

Did it take a little bit? Man as soon as soon as I heard that buzz inside that's the first thing I thought of when finally going to the Final Four. And it's unbelievable and late in the game up against Kansas State you go to the free throw line two different times. You're up by one. You hit both the free throws four total down the stretch.

You made it look easy. Were you nervous when you're at the line or did you know those shots were going in? I knew the shots were going in.

I practice free throws every day so I wasn't too worried about them. Why wasn't the moment throughout this entire tourney never too big for you guys because like no one expected you to do this but you guys in that locker room and it seems like you belong and the stage has never been too big for you guys? Just because we all know like we've all been in like positions where we have high stakes at hand so like we're just used to playing like this.

We work hard every day so we just trust the work that we put into the game. Now sometimes in this sport especially when you have a nine seed go to the Final Four people call it a Cinderella story. Just how do you respond to that when people call you guys a Cinderella team? We really don't feel like we're a Cinderella team. Just based off of all the accomplishments we've had this season we just don't feel like we are. So when the committee came out and they ranked you guys a nine seed in this tourney did you feel like that was disrespect to the FAU program?

Us as a team we definitely did feel a little disrespected but we used that as motivation to show the world that the ranking really doesn't matter. What do you think is going to be going through your head? You'll go out to Houston this week and then Saturday night you're going to lace it up you're going to play in the Final Four right before that ball is tipped on the biggest stage in college basketball.

What do you think is going to be going through your mind? Man just winning the game and moving on because our dreams are right in front of us. We're just two games away.

And it really did sink in for me. This was after you guys won the Sweet 16 game to go to the Elite Eight against Tennessee. Your coach Dusty May said three more wins. Now knowing there's only two more wins to a championship that's got to be a little bit surreal how close you guys are to that finish line.

Yeah it definitely is it's kind of uh it kind of equates to how like the shot clock going down five four three two one so it's a really good feeling to know that we're that close. Obviously it was a happy locker room after the game but take me inside that locker room once you guys walk off the court together after cutting down the nets at Madison Square Garden. What was that like getting back into the locker room and then eventually the plane ride home? Oh man it was just you could just feel the energy everyone was happy everyone was just excited just to know that we're we're going to the final four so um just a lot a lot of talking and it was a lot of uh interviews afterwards also but just a lot of excitement and celebration.

Michael Forrest here with us. I want to take you back to the Sweet 16 game. You really did ignite that that run and that comeback that you guys did go on you were down by four you hit those two big threes and then you get um a two point basket as well. I know this has been a different season for you coming off the bench just take me through what that moment was like when you went through that run of eight straight points for you uh in the Sweet 16. Uh that does that sequence was it was like a a real confidence booster for me just because like in the beginning of the tournament I was kind of struggling so um just for that that run to happen and just for me to be able to like be a key component in my team winning so it's amazing.

Michael Forrest here with us from the FAU Owls off to the final four as an INC they'll play San Diego State coming up on Saturday night in Houston. I know you're a Florida kid and Dusty May going to FAU kind of did convince you to go to FAU but take me through your decision-making process and why you elected to stay at home and go join FAU. Um I I chose to stay just because of um the culture that uh coach May was trying to build and the opportunity that he was uh giving to me and also just how um how coach May was always like upfront truthful about the um the good and the bad um with committing to the school so that's really what swayed me to come. This year when coach came to you and you've been with the team since 2018 and he said we're gonna have you come off the bench last year you had 34 starts um this year you only had one just kind of uh take me through why you kind of were receptive to that and not a lot of kids would be okay with coming off the bench but but you were different. Um just because I I knew like I knew this team was going to be special so if I had to just uh play my role and help other guys succeed then that's really what I was willing to do um and the results have been pretty great so I can't complain. You said you knew this team was going to be special what did you see out of this team before the season started? Um I could see um just the guys determination and their willingness to work hard um every single day day in and day out um the guys bring incredible focus during film um in the weight room and on the court so and they also put an extra time off the court as well so we have a great group of guys that always just we have a team full of gym rats that's what I can say. That's awesome well what were your goals heading into this season as a team what was the the goal of the FAU Owls? Um the goal was to just get one percent better every day and just max out our potential just because coach May saw like the potential in us and he was willing to work with us um any hour of the day so it was really just trying to get better to reach our ceiling. If I told you in the summer that you guys would be in the final four later on this year what would you have said to me?

Um I part of me would have thought you were crazy and part of me would have thought that uh it could happen so it's kind of like a double-sided coin. It's been an unbelievable story when you get into the preparation for San Diego State as you guys are 40 minutes away from playing in the championship game coming up on Monday just what stands out to you about the Aztecs at San Diego State? Um just their their physicality um they're a very physical team and they're uh well coached too so um within the next few days we're just going to prepare for them and um and um see what we can do. Last thing I'll ask you and this kind of annoys me because you guys have been such a fun story and it's been awesome and I think these last two weeks have been the most entertaining two weeks in NCAA tournament history you got some people saying oh San Diego State uh Florida Atlantic is there it's not good for college basketball it's it's not good for March Madness just what do you say to people that say that? Oh man uh this this is this team we've been proven proven the haters wrong all season so that there will just be another notch under our belt. Do you guys pay attention to what's being said about you because for me everyone should be throwing flowers your way but it does seem like some people are annoyed that you guys are in the final four. Yeah uh we we pay attention to it a little bit but we don't really get into that um if we're talking about it we just we use it as fuel to um. Well Michael it's been an incredible story we can't wait to see uh how this plays out this weekend really appreciate you doing this and thanks so much.

Well thank you. There's Michael Forrest from the FAU Owls just what a wonderful story they have been in the final four. Ack you're like a historian when it comes to sports and you have a crazy memory as well. These last two weeks and the first two weeks of the NCAA tournament I've never seen anything like this. Well I think it's been interesting and I thought this before the tournament because of the way things are now and you get a team like Florida Atlantic and I think this will be the norm and we saw it with with Fairleigh Dickinson too you have guys that are older that guys that weren't getting looks elsewhere that maybe were overlooked for whatever reason whether it's size whether it's it's speed whatever the case is they come together at these places and you look at them and you say they're really good. Um we were just talking in the newsroom a couple of moments ago and John Schweibacher who works at WFAN um who's under the company umbrella had mentioned three AAC schools still alive two in the NIT and of course Florida Atlantic so I I think it's been terrific from the standpoint of you know this year in college basketball I didn't think there was a big difference whether it was from Purdue to whoever you want to put in at number 68 which I guess would have been FDU uh considering they were in the first four there's just not a big drop off in talent. But you know what it was too like usually you go into the tourney and you have a good feeling about like five teams and hey a lot of times we end up being wrong because this tournament it does this like all the time where you feel really good about a team and then they go down but going into this year it was really about how I felt about the NFC in football where it was like you have the Eagles and the 49ers only like two teams you feel great about everyone else it's like okay I see that and that's what because like these one seats this year I wasn't blown away by Purdue no but I think this is also what makes the tournament great because we went into the tournament and you look at and I and I brought this up too off the air UConn I had liked UConn the last two years and UConn goes out in the first round and you say well maybe they were they were too tight you know where does it come from is that going to happen again every team has something where you look at them and you say well if this happens then they can get on a run I mean let's look at it too you know Memphis against FAU in that first game numbers loss yeah and and then the puzzle it's almost like you put together a jigsaw puzzle and you get the corner but the rest of the pieces change so now the whole the complexion of the puzzle is different it's it's all about matchups and and how they how they arrive at you it's almost like you know to your point you know when do you play a team during the season you know if you get them at the right time then you know you have you have a good shot and I and I think that that's what makes the tournament special is how is the team going to play under pressure and again go back to the FDU situation and Tobin Anderson saying I don't remember who which player it was but you know he grew up in Mount Vernon and for those around the country who don't know you know there are parts of Mount Vernon that are pretty pretty rough areas he's not going to be scared and you you see that come out in the tournament and you know just because you don't know these guys doesn't mean they don't exist and I know whoever won FDU's conference they weren't eligible to go to the NCAA tournament but I feel like for a lot of these schools that end up going on these Cinderella runs their postseason starts a lot earlier because they come from one big bid leagues for the last part yeah and I think that does play a role when you're in surviving advancement mode where yes you exhale like Princeton for example who they had a year lost because of COVID and the whole Ivy League was done then last year they they should have won their their conference tournament they lose to Yale and then it's like okay the next year after that you finally get over the hump and you beat Yale after a few weeks ago you blew like a 20 something point lead to them and you lose that game in overtime and it's like okay you get there if we just got through that after how tough it was no one's gonna pick us so you're kind of just not intimidated by the moment because sometimes you have house money there's no expectations really but I do think the one thing that does play into this is older players guys who have been around at their schools are you know hardened by again being overlooked you know the guys that some of the guys at FDU going with Tobin Anderson from division two you look at Marquis Noel you know he was a couple different stops you look at the guys although they didn't advance as far they did give UCLA a good run Northwestern, Bubui and Chase Audige had been there for quite a while so I think the age factor plays into it a little you sometimes get a team that's a little stronger physically because they're older and I think that really that really plays into it.

And even like a school like Furman who yeah the year before they just lose their conference tournament in the worst possible way that you could right at that buzzer so you look at it this year you have a 16 beta one a 15 for the third straight year beta two you had a 13 beta four and there's no number one seeds that was heading into the elite eight the first time ever no number one seeds clearly in the final four for the first time since 2011 and you don't even like it is a four two fives and a nine yeah that we all went into this tourney saying yeah this is an unpredictable one this one was really an unpredictable one. You also gotta love you have 73 year old Jim Laranaga you have who should be a Hall of Famer yes you you have 63 year old Brian Dutcher who was a long time assistant and Miami also lost it almost lost to Drake too in the first round oh absolutely and and then you have Dusty May who comes from you know the India and a background and a great great story and we'll see where his next stop is because he's he's destined for greatness you know and he and you have Dan Hurley the coaching pedigree from the Hurley family the legendary Hurley family so it's it's a it's a pretty pretty interesting mix yeah we got to get Hurley senior on this week Hickey oh I'm sure he's available yeah nice man too I have a number for him I interviewed him the day where it was announced that Saint Anthony's unfortunately were closing their doors and he he gave me like 20 minutes of his time and I was always appreciative of that I uh I actually once did a game back in 1992 uh the charm city classic in Baltimore it was Lake Clifton against Saint Anthony and so I called I don't know how I got his number but I got his number somehow 92 how the hell yeah the yellow pages it may have been I just knew where to call you know the probation officer so you know he's going to be at his desk and and he was as nice as can be we talked for a long time but I tell you what though it's kind of funny because of the you know who he was and and what he did for a living I was intimidated I really was but he was very nice and uh and very gracious and his sons I say this politely are maniacs yeah they're very high strung I will never forget I told this to Hickey last week I went to a Rhode Island temple game during winter break when I was in college and it's when Danny Hurley was coaching URI and Bobby was his assistant there was no students at the of course because they're all home on vacation and the yelling from those two guys at an empty gym I needed earplugs yeah they're pretty they're pretty intense and it's all game along they don't let up from opening tip on it's I don't know they have they have to have more energy than the players yeah and and it's weird because you hear Danny Hurley do interviews and he's kind of like calm in the interviews yeah it's it's game face that that's what happens I met him uh a little more than 10 years ago the New York City Catholic League Basketball Association had a dinner and both he and Bobby were there he had just taken over at Wagner and it's kind of funny I think back to that night and they were so self-deprecating I'm like thinking to myself come on Bobby Hurley look at you you're like a college basketball legend you know Danny you know you're you did well for yourself maybe not as well but still well you know and and they were like so self-deprecating and like real and then you look at them and then it's like Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde they're so intense you know here they are clowning around at this thing and then you know on the sideline forget it's a totally different story so you can think about the auto parts where your car care needs get guaranteed low price and excellent customer service from the professional parts listening to the Zach Gelb show Zach Gelb shows CBS Sports Radio so all the GMs and coaches and a lot of the owners are talking during these meetings and Brian Gudekunz did address reporters today let's hear Brian Gudekunz saying Aaron Rodgers ignored the Packers calls this off season you know as we got out of the off season thereafter the season and we had a good conversation um and then you know we're gonna have some follow-up conversations and our inability to reach him or for him to respond in any way I think at that point then we just kind of had to we had to I had to do my job and kind of reach out and understanding that a trade could be possible and see who was interested but that shopping was never really part of that how about that so Gudekunz making it clear well Rodgers pretty much on McAfee when he did that interview was that like two weeks ago right now I'm gonna say that was two weeks ago so Rodgers when he goes on McAfee says we had a good conversation at the end of the off season and then he came out of the darkness retreat and then he got a sense of something changed well dude you may had a good conversation you may have thought they were disingenuous anyway but if you're not picking up their phone calls and it's just extremely disrespectful not that Roger Rodgers gives a crap because he was done with the Packers organization I guarantee you even before it but you can't then really blame the Packers for then saying all right you're not going to communicate with us then we'll make our decision so this doesn't make Rodgers look good but I don't think Rodgers really cares because he never cares about the perception about him but more importantly Rodgers he knew when he was walking off that field and I know right I got it's not the the photo of him and Randall Cobb together shows it but he knew that that was it and he could sit there and and say however he wants about wanting to play for one team but he even said the McAfee interview even if they went to him and said we want you back he wasn't going back anyway so he was done probably earlier than that final game and he probably knew this for a while but it was clear hickey that he was done when this when the off season started because if he actually wanted to return to Green Bay I don't know maybe you pick up the phone from the phone call from Brian Goudekunz or return the phone call at least and the way he answered AJ Hawk's question of if the Packers wanted you back would you have gone the reason why he said no and in his explanation you could see right through it he knew the Packers didn't want him he got that sense for I mean he said almost half the year just how they were talking to him how they were treating him how they were viewing him so it wasn't like he was caught off you know blindsides or had no idea that wow the Packers really want him off of me I think it's part of reason why he didn't answer any calls because he knew those calls are basically hey you know moving on to Jordan Love we want to you know trade you and classic Aaron Rodgers wants to control the narrative and now it's I want out instead of you breaking up with me no no no no I'm breaking up with you and you can't break up with me just calling George Costanza if I don't answer the phone let me just ask you a serious question did the the Packers during the season really mistreat Aaron Rodgers no I don't know I mean we're not behind the scenes I don't think so okay but you said that that's why well you said you got the vibe from like you can mistreating and getting a vibe that okay maybe this has run its courses I would say two different things I don't think the Packers this year did anything wrong I don't I don't think they did anything wrong with their handling of Aaron Rodgers and Aaron Rodgers I think at some point this year said to himself I'm done I'm ready to move on and maybe part of this too hickey and this could just be a little speculation and it was Bart Winkler who when he joined us after the McAfee the interview that said it maybe Aaron Rodgers when he was hurt and his refusal to sit out part of me I don't think you sit out until you're eliminated but what Bart Winkler said is that he thinks that Aaron the one of the genuine things he said in the McAfee interview was he believes that Jordan Love's gonna be a really good quarterback and if they went to Jordan Love I think that would have damaged the ego potentially of Aaron Rodgers on the chance on the chance that Love would have played really well and maybe Rodgers I'm not saying he's intimidated by Jordan Love because that'd be crazy but maybe he got the sense wow Jordan Love has really grown up a lot in this last year and if they drafted him eventually they're going to replace me with them like he knew this day was coming he's talked about this ever since they drafted Jordan Love and maybe he saw the strides in Jordan Love and he kind of got the sense oh Jordan's ready to start therefore whether he felt like the Packers were giving the vibe or mistreating him or not Love was showing Rodgers enough in practice that gave Rodgers the sense okay it's just a matter of time now when I get moved on from this offseason. I think Bart is spot on a hundred percent because again we saw only a slight glimpse of right is a quarter right I believe of Jordan Love against the Eagles on that Sunday night game. Big play slight was ready to to bow down to Jordan Love. He was effusive in his place. 100% so the small sample size we got was positive not to mention again Aaron Rodgers does not it sounds like his fear is getting pushed out he wants to leave on his own terms not be told hey party's over buddy you got to go home and I think I would have like you said only expedited or would have grown the the fan demand for Jordan Love to play now Rodgers ago make it even louder and stronger if you saw a four-game sample size. I will guarantee you this whether it's before the trade or once the trade does happen there is going to be a bombshell article I don't know if it's from the athletic I don't know if it's from ESPN I don't know whatever local team that covers the Packers there will be a bombshell article because the moment he's officially look how much talking's going on right now when the trade isn't even agreed upon and I guarantee you there was a lot of ugliness behind the scenes this year because if Rodgers got that sense that things weren't going right I don't think Aaron probably handled things the right way and it would not surprise me if a lot of people from the Packers side start doing some talking maybe already now or once this trade does become official there's going to be some tell-all story that gets released I guarantee you about this Packers season whenever this trade goes down if not sooner that would be my sense on this entire thing because I I don't think this is a good divorce you know sometimes divorce is all right it was a great run it's time to move on the sparks just not there I think when this is official this is going to be a really ugly nasty divorce where people are going to want to as you say control the narrative on both sides once this all goes final one more Brian Gudekunz on when he first thought of trading Aaron Rodgers I think obviously it was a disappointing season right and you come out of the season you have a lot of conversations not only with Aaron but with the rest of the team coaches and everybody and as you go through that process you kind of get an idea of where you're going to move to you know as a team how you're going to go forward and I think I was really looking forward to the conversations with Aaron to see how he fit into that those never transpired so you know there came a time where we kind of had to we had to make some you know decisions so we went through his representatives to try to kind of talk to him where we were going with our team and at that point you know they informed us they would like to be traded to the jet now I don't necessarily believe everything Gudekunz just said there but I do think probably he went to rods in the year we have to have conversations and maybe he thought they ended in a good spot and then Rodgers never returned his phone call I was like okay then we're trading it whether he knew that or not before then that's a different conversation but maybe that's the way that I actually truthfully believe that he presented it to Aaron Rodgers but when the guy isn't calling you back and you just gave him an extension you could spin that into well he wasn't doing anything we were willing to keep him but he didn't want to be here so eventually we have to make a decision to not be held hostage Zach Kelp's show CBS Sports Radio news brief next Seth Greenberg still to come 25 minutes from now
