All right, away we go. Our number three of our radio program now joining us in studio in his weekly Wednesday spot.
You can listen to him hick at night, Sundays, 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Eastern Time of any of these same Infinity Sports Network affiliates, and you can also catch him throughout the week in certain spots right after us from 6 to 10 p.m. Eastern Time as the producer of the JR Sport Brief Extravaganza. Here he is, Ryan, hot take hickey. How you doing, Xter? Uh, good, good today. We're hanging in. How you doing? All right, so you got this, uh, you get the enhanced ID, you get the real ID.
Which one did you end up going for? Uh, I got the real ID. Oh, so you're not doing a lot of any international traveling?
Uh, not anytime soon. I have a passport, so. Yeah, that's true. So I just got the enhanced. They were like, oh, it's a little extra money, and I go, whatever. You know, eventually I'm sure they're gonna be like, oh, no, you don't need the real ID anymore.
Now you need the enhanced ID, and that's the way that they squeeze like 30, 30 extra dollars out of you. But you put out this photo of yourself, and I texted this to you while I was working out today, and I texted Stu as well, and I said, hickey, I hope you don't get mad at me, because it's never good when you say you look like a murderer. That's just not good.
Not good. Uh, but on the photo that you posted, because this is from your permit. My permit, uh, photo at 16. When you were 16.
16 years old. And now you are an old 30-year-old man. It's almost half my life ago, wow. Yeah, well, mine was the same way. I got a brand new picture, and my license photo was from when I was 16 as well.
And Ryan Hickey, when he's 16, you look, I want to say nothing like you do today, but this was definitely like your, your f-boy era, you know? You look like a douchey 16-year-old. Oh, I was gonna say I look pretty ugly. You look at that photo. You wonder why you got, I got no girls in high school. Bad buzz cut puka shells. Can I be honest?
Explains it all. Let me be honest, Stu? No beard.
I think if you showed girls 16-year-old Ryan Hickey compared to now Ryan Hickey, I think that this would attract more ladies, your 16-year-old photo, than the photo now. Especially Bonnie Blue, if she was in the studio. Wow. I don't know how many no's she's saying in general. That would be a laugh for everybody here. I don't think she knows how to, how to say.
I don't think she knows that word exists. Um, but yeah, I made a comparison though, when I was examining this photo, and the first person I thought of was Aaron Hernandez, because you have that like Aaron Hernandez haircut. You guys have a similar jaw line. The ears are the same and the nose is the same. I think you kind of look like Aaron Hernandez. I, I don't, I mean, don't shoot me. And that gives you some shriek.
I mean, we got, you know, well, if you want to be worried around me, I'll take it. But yeah, the bus cut definitely similar. The mine's more jagged than his, his at least not lined up. Yeah. Your hair is much better now.
That's the, the, the biggest difference that I've seen. You didn't care about your hair at all then. Well, it's just easy to do.
Just buzz it off. I didn't know I was capable of growing long hair and having it look better than the bus cut. Can I ask a question though?
Sure. Was there like a little hair issue there when you were 16? Hair issue, meaning it like.
I know my phone's a little dirty, but. Well, like, yeah, that's just a jagged, bald spot there. Jagged, buzz cut.
I mean, I didn't go exactly to the best barber. This kind of like. Yeah. They now have a scale by the way.
A scale. Yeah. And how they grade your hair each and every week in the YouTube chat.
When you join us. Oh, so, all right. Hickey looks like Aaron Hernandez when he was 16. Stu, I'm not crazy. You saw this as well. You're not just busting balls here.
I mean, I didn't see it before you said it, but once I saw that you said it, I was like, yeah, that, that makes sense to me. Yeah. So.
What do I do with that information now? Am I like a. Well, you don't look like a now. Am I? Okay. Thankfully. No one's walking up to you now and saying that you're an Aaron and does, but if you and Aaron and is with the same age. Well, I think we sort of are probably in the same range. If Aaron just did what he did when you were 16 and I put up your photo, I think some people would be like, okay, they could be relatives. Wow. They may have thrown that white shirt over you having you walk out of the house. It's a good thing.
I grew out a beard and grow my hair. So we don't have to worry about that. And can we also be real? Sure. I don't think you'd do well in prison. Yeah.
Yeah. I don't think it's a compliment to say you would do well in prison. I would not do well. I don't think you would do. I absolutely would not. And I hope to never, never face that one day. That's that's why I'm living by the rules. Is that your biggest fear going to prison? What's your biggest fear in life? Yeah, I guess probably.
I mean, outside of dying. Yeah, probably. I do. I like life. I don't want to go anywhere. Obviously.
I like life. I mean, yeah. I don't know what's on the other side. That's something you can't really control. Right. And then here's the hot take of the day when you're dead, you're dead. Right. But like, you don't know what happens when you die. I like to believe so. Yeah. I like to believe there's an afterlife, but like, we don't know for sure.
So like that could be it. I mean, and then you want to get really trippy. You ever, you actually ever think about how long forever is like, you really think about like how long forever is.
It's pretty crazy. Do you think we'll be friends in heaven one day? I hope so. Honestly, why not?
What are things going to change between now? I set the joke up there. You should have said, I hope to see it up there one day. There's a chance I maybe don't go up there. It's a possibility. It's going to be warmer. You're going, yeah, it could be a possibility. You got the short sleeve shirt on you dressing light already. Like you're preparing. Anyway, I wanted to just do something that was not Daniel Jones related for you.
Thank you. Because I wanted, even though I compared you to a murderer, I'll take that. I haven't talked about my future quarterback.
I want it because you walked in the studio. I got a lot of data Jones talking. You go, Oh, I forgot about that. So we got in a big fight when we worked together and you were praising Anthony Richardson, who I knew that you didn't like as a quarterback leading up to the draft.
Then you found out the culture probably going to get him. And you started talking yourself into Anthony Richardson and you said, Oh, just like you did with Trey Lance, he's got the highest ceiling and those words, highest ceiling just drive me crazy. When you haven't seen enough from a certain quarterback that could suggest they could reach that potential in them. So you're out on Anthony Richardson. And now since Daniel Jones is there from our little quick encounter yesterday, you think he's going to start at least 10 games this year. I'm not out on Richardson. I'm rooting for him to succeed. I, but right now the body of work he's displayed.
And the fact that the Colts feel like they need to bring in someone established to push him, everything right now says, this is not going to work out. I'm rooting for him. I want him to win the starting job. I think he will be the week one started on.
I hope that's the case. Every game he plays and got to root for him. His inconsistency, inability to stay healthy. I can't sit here.
I gotta be lying to you. If I said, Oh, I think he's going to win the job and play all 17 games and play ball. I just, I can't say that right now.
Do you hope it's the case? Do you think you can name every Colts starting quarterback since paid a Manning retired or since I, sorry, since Andrew luck left the organization. 2019 was your Kobe reset and there's, there's like one or two in there. My, my apologies, but I can at least name the starters. It was Jacoby reset, Phillip rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan. 20, 23 was Anthony Richardson. Matt Ryan. Yeah, he was there. But Matt Ryan also got benched. So you had Nick foals start a game. You had Sam Ellinger start a few games as well.
All right, ready? Hold on. So 2019, you said he started 16.
He started 15. Oh, Scott Tolzine. Nope. Scott Tolzine would have been the answer in 2017.
That's what it is. I don't know the other one then in 2019, a guy that used to play for my team, two guys that used to play for my team because you're Jacoby. Oh, Brian Hoyer.
Yeah, very good. No, not Kobe got hurt against the dolphins and they lost that game. So he started one game. That's 2020. You got the destroyer. You got Phillip rivers, Phillip rivers, 2021. You got Carson Wentz. Yes. You said for 2022, the three quarterbacks that you gave were Matt Ryan, Matt Ryan, Sam Ellinger, 2022. You already said his name, so I'll give it to you.
Nick foals. Okay. Right.
This is giants. 2022. Yes. Well, you said Nick foals, right?
No, I didn't. 2023 Gardner Minshew, Anthony Richardson. Good. And last year, Anthony Richardson. Oh, come on. Who they went to. Very good. A lot of quarterbacks.
A lot of people to name. We're starting to be like the Browns Jersey now. Yeah. Well, you had such a good run for a while because you had paid a Manning, even though we only won one Superbowl. You had Andrew Luck and it was unfortunate with injuries, but there was still a belief that he was a great quarterback. And then once luck said, yeah, I'm out of here. Boom 2019.
It's been just a rotating door. And I would say the best quarterback out of all those that were there. I have my answer.
What's yours though? Phil Burrus by far. Yeah. And that was the guy that I think you didn't want. I did not want him, but he was old, but he's washed up.
See what happens there. You don't want the guy. The guy ends up being good. If you want the guys that you want, like Carson Wentz ends up being that not good. Do you think you can name the quarterbacks after 2014 that started games for Andrew Luck before Andrew Luck returned in 2018 and started all 16 games?
Matt Hasselbeck. I know for sure is in there. Scott Tolzien is in there. Yeah.
And Andrew Luck did play seven games in 2015, 15 games in 2016. So you got Tolzien. Did Stephen Morris ever make a start? No.
He was a backup for a while from Miami, but I don't know if you ever got a start or not. And there's one carry over from the other list. To Kobe Bressett, right?
Yep. So Bressett and Tolzien you got and Hasselbeck you got. Oh, there's one more there because the others were Andrew Luck. Luck started seven games in 2015. He started 15 games in 2016 and none in 2017. He started one game in 2015.
Do you think you could get him for the Colts? What college did he go to? Would that give it away? 2015. This guy has, I don't, this guy has been out of college for a long time. So off the top of my head, I do not remember, but let me just look it up. This guy went to Kansas state. He's played for one, two, three, four, five. Oh, I thought he'd be on more teams than this. Yeah.
But just off a quick search. You're going to say, I'm actually going to, because I feel like I kind of know it. I can picture, but I can't think of the first round pick Josh. Come on. Oh my God. He's a Buccaneers.
Here's the Buccaneers starter. Who is it? Oh my God. I can't think of his last name. Damn it. Josh.
I don't know. I'll buy you some time here. What does his last name start with? Can I get one letter? Stu? You think I should give him a line still? I'm down bad here. We're talking about you compared him to Aaron Hernandez earlier.
So yeah, give him the letter. Freeman Freeman. There we go. Wow. Okay.
Last on the past. So anyway, you're going into this cold season. You think it's another waste of a year is what you're telling me. The March for arch is already on looking ahead to 20. Well, after Richardson gets benched and or hurt, then the March for Arches talking about injuries because he can't stay healthy. I'm not rooting for him to get hurt. Prevent the, but do you think the Colts are going to be that bad? I'm rooting for them. No realistically.
No. Cause Daniel Jones for how much I want to crap on him. He's good enough to win them four or five games that they shouldn't and not have the first pick. Like they're not going to be 2012 or 2011 bad. They went two and 14 and went from Manning to get luck. They're not going to be that bad.
That's the shame of it. They'll probably be like ninth. Okay. So who's going to be in front of them. I'll give you a team. You think the Colts or this team who's going to be worse jets or Colts?
Ooh, that's a good question. I'm talking about teams that could use quarterbacks. Like I'm not going to give you the Patriots because they got Drake may, you know, like I think that the Colts would be better than the Patriots. I think without looking at the schedule, I think the Colts would be slightly better, but I think they're both in that seven, eight, nine win range.
Okay. So the jets are comparable Cleveland worse, way worse. And we'll see if they take a quarterback this year, Tennessee. We'll see if they take quarterback this year. You think, wait, you think the Tennessee's would be worse, right? Is that what I'm answering? These teams are working.
Yes. Tennessee worse. The Raiders. I like the direction, but I think they'll be worse.
Okay. Need some more talent. Offense line, defense line, the giants. If they don't get a quarterback in this round, if they do worse, that's what five saints worse. Oh my God.
You think the saints will be worse? I do. Okay.
They got no direction. Cardinals. That's tough. They're spunky, but also I don't know about them. Spunky. I don't think I've ever heard a team referred to as spunky.
I will say worse, but not by much. Okay. So there's seven teams right there that not all that may be in the quarterback, but could be in the mix. Alrighty. You have been critical of Colorado. You have been critical of coach prime and fair, but okay. I then issued a defense of coach prime and Chidor Sanders and coach prime. Follow me on social media.
That's right. This is now two weeks in a row. Someone else that you've been critical of. I gave my endorsement. It sounds a little douchey when I say it, but I praised that person the other day and they followed me on Twitter late last night. Any idea who that person is?
No idea. Someone that you are not a fan of, who I don't like. You are not a fan of Daniel Jones. Did you praise him? Oh, you can't praise him.
No, no, no. I'm talking about someone that I could praise someone that you were very against him being a starter this year in the NFL. Aaron Rogers. No.
Geno Smith. You think Aaron Rogers is going to follow me on Twitter? I don't know. I don't know. If you talk nice about him, I could see him. You really dislike where this person went to college. JJ McCarthy. Yes. JJ McCarthy.
I threw out a little video last night. Hey, you know, I think JJ McCarthy could be just as good if not better than Sam Darnold fit. We always talk about fit for quarterbacks. Everyone wants to knock JJ McCarthy's teamed up with Kevin O'Connell.
You got Jefferson, you got Addison, you got Hockinson, you got Aaron Jones, Darris. So hopefully comes back healthy. You know, I'm doing what I'm doing. I'm saying, you know what? And I'm rooting for JJ McCarthy because a lot of people don't think he's that good.
Yes. He was a game manager at Michigan. Do I think he's great? No, but I also saw him win a national championship, go 27 and one, have some really good moments for that team on the road to Ohio state at home, beating Ohio state, perfect throw to Roman Wilson, the second half.
And I even said first half was unacceptable, but the second half up against TCU was really good. Like I was giving some moments and I said it I'm rooting for him because 99.9% of people think this guy's going to suck. And usually I've learned when people think that's the case, the guy ends up being a very good player in this league. And then I got a late night follow from JJ McCarthy. I have to just put a little, a little video out there. So I guess he watched the video and then said, Oh, I like this guy. I'm going to follow him on Twitter.
Or maybe he remembered me from some of my legendary Tony Petitti rants as well. So JJ McCarthy, you're still where with him? I think it'd be fine. Like I think like, they should have brought back Sam Darnold.
I do. Especially if you're going to go down the Aaron Rogers, right? That's one that to me, there's reports out there that they're considering them. I don't know how real those are, but I think also you look at the Aaron Rogers timeline, if it's truly the jets and the steals, what's he waiting for?
Giants are still, sorry, giant sisters. What's he waiting for? Well, I think it's money.
That's what I think it is. And Mike Florio was even on 93, seven, the fan in Pittsburgh. And he's like, Rogers is willing to take less than 90 million over two years, but the Steelers thought he would be cheaper than that. And it's how far down is Rogers willing, willing to go on the salary trail. I mean, just gave $35 million away for the jets two years ago. Should be willing to play for, you think pretty little to plan a team that's exponentially better in the Steelers compared to the giants to compare to where they want to go.
I just wonder how I find Minnesota State far away. And I, I think JJ McCarthy should be the start of this year. Look at the options now that Sam Darnold's gone. I just, I hope they don't go the iron Rogers. Do you think Rogers goes to the Steelers though?
Like guns to your head right now. I do make a prediction. I guess.
Okay. Then what do you expect out of the Steelers this year? Mr. Pluffs, I actually think there'll be under 500 for the first time since 2003. This is the year. So I thought last year was going to be the year that happened a full disclosure. I was wrong.
Same by the way. They're getting better at quarterback by bringing in Rogers than what they had last year. You have Pickens, you have Metcalf, no Najee Harris. So I think is better than what Steelers fans think of him. And I do think that defense is going to be better than what they were last year. Last year was not a good season.
I'm not saying that they definitely will make the playoffs, but below 500 with Rogers, as long as he's healthy, I have a tough time seeing the Steelers bare minimum, not winning on games. I don't buy he's better than Russ. I don't at this point, the run game, like you said, it's inefficient. And so if you can't run the ball well in terms of yards per carry, you're basically then asking Aaron Rogers with no run game and a defense that you may think, you may think, I don't think they're gonna be much better next year. I really don't. They're another year older.
It's very expensive. They don't have much room in terms of adding improvements. If that defense that got shredded towards the end of the season is the same one we see in 2025. So defense is shakier than it's been. No run game. Now you're going to ask a 42 year old Aaron Rogers to come in here, even with DK Metcalf and win you 10 games. I don't see it. I don't think he's that good anymore to do it. Who will have a better season this year, Sam Darnold or Geno Smith?
Ooh, interesting. I think in terms of just raw numbers, I think probably Geno Smith. I don't love the fit for Sam Darnold in Seattle.
Why? I think Sam Darnold needs help. He's a player who's very talented, but he needs good coach around him like he had in Minnesota. He needs good players. You got a good wide receiver and a good running back. You go to Seattle, but part of it is where, what is Seattle doing?
What are they trying to accomplish? I think they're retooling. And if you're retooling, I don't think then if that's the case, Sam Darnold is the right guy for you. Well, I don't think that they locked themselves into Sam Darnold long-term. It's only $55 million. And for quarterback contracts, right?
That's relatively small, but like I think you could have gotten better options or similar options for cheaper. If you're retooling to buy yourself a year or two, then giving them basically trading way, Geno trading way, DK Metcalf, then going out and get the most expensive and best quarterback on the free agent market to come to your town as you're kind of one foot rebuilding, one foot kind of going for it. I don't think it's a best situation for Sam Darnold.
All right, let's take this a step further. Take Geno out of the conversation. Now, rank these three quarterbacks on who you think will perform best this upcoming year. Sam Darnold in Minnesota, Justin Fields with the Jets, Sam Darnold in Seattle. Sorry, you said Sam Darnold in Minnesota and in Seattle. Sorry, JJ McCarthy. Did I say that? Yes.
Oh, sorry. JJ McCarthy in Minnesota, Sam Darnold in Seattle and Justin Fields with the Jets. In terms of raw numbers, I think I will go, I think Sam Darnold will pull up some good enough stats out of those three. I'll go Sam Darnold, Justin Fields, JJ McCarthy. How do you put McCarthy third? Number one, I don't know if he's gonna start the year. I think there's concern about that since the Vikings are in, you know, at least looking for a veteran quarterback.
And I'm just interested. Yeah, I think missing all last year is, will have an impact. I'm not saying right. I think he's going to be like that.
I go McCarthy one, Darnold two, Fields three. What you said is right in the sense of he has everything there to succeed. And we talked about last year. I thought this is the perfect landing spot for him, for what he has and what Kevin O'Connell needs. I just don't know if he'll hit the ground running as quick as maybe everyone thinks he will. That's all. I'm going to throw you a curve ball here. Let's do it right now. Right now. We're going to get a little early look at Hickey's college football confidence.
Okay. The national championship in college football will be who? Penn State, non Homer pick. Who will they be playing? I'm going to go Oregon. A lot of people want to say Texas and arch Oregon's deep. They have a lot of talent returning. They have a lot of talent waiting the wings.
The two best teams reside in the Big Ten, Penn State, Oregon. Can I be a jackass here for a second? Go for it. So you said the March for Arch, the March for Arch. Now, Arch Manning, if he wants to go back to college for another year after this. Absolutely.
You can go back for two years, I believe. If the Colts have the number one overall pick, there's something happening with the Colts right now. You know, with with former players, they're like, McAfee's been very critical of the organization. But he wants them to win. It's coming from a perspective of frustration, not like I hate the team.
But the Colts are a dumpster fire. Jim Erce has been a dumpster fire of an owner. Jim Erce has been an embarrassment. Yeah.
And I feel bad talking negatively about him because like you saw the condition that he was in on that last game of the season. You know, I do have a heart and I have some empathy for Jim Erce. Maybe I will go to heaven when it's all said and done after that moment. That was a good moment. If you listen in, you have more empathy than I do. If you're listening, big fella, just make sure you send me up there. All right.
Elevator going up. Could you imagine in a world where Arch Manning, right? Because Peyton Manning did a nice little event, celebrated the Super Bowl with the Colts, but he identifies now more as a Bronco. Well, tells his nephew, hey, maybe it's best to avoid the Indianapolis Colts.
And I apologize to our listeners in India. If that's the case, then there should be a March outside of Lucas Oil to force Jim Erce to sell. Get out. Get out. It's that bad where he's going back to college just because it's the Colts at number one and not another team that sell.
You are ruining the franchise. Pack up the trucks, move them in the middle of that. Pack up Jim Erce's house, pack up the guitars, get them all out, go wherever he wants. Sell the team.
Anything else that stands out to you in the off season so far? And he takes. And he takes. I don't know what the Texans are doing in trading away their best offensive lineman to make it their O-line worse, not better.
Yeah. Seth Pains wrote this yesterday. He's been very critical. Larrabee Tunsil for a while. And a lot of Texas fans I've seen, oh, it's the culture. He holds too much.
Fine. The guy's a pro bowl and the guy's the only thing right now that keeps CJ Shred upright at the left tackle. He's been sacked 90 times in two years.
I don't want to hear about culture right now or holding. You could figure that when you actually have somebody waiting in the wings, you can replace Larrabee Tunsil with. I don't know who you're doing with right now. You're going down David Carr 2.0 territory. Ooh, wow.
90 sacks in two years. No, I understand. I understand. You're going to get the guy killed. Calm down.
Stroud though plays a lot better quarterback than Carr did. No, but that's what makes it worse. Hey, Stu, I don't know if you have the ability to do this and I know I'm up against it, but we played you this audio yesterday. Could you quickly find the hickey take that we played when they drafted Anthony Richardson? Because I'm one of those guys that if I'm going to say something on my show and then you're sitting right next to me, I don't think that's right if I don't play it in front of you just to have you revisit something.
You know, I always feel like if you're going to say something and you should then say it to someone's face. That's fine with me. So I don't know how long it's going to take Stu to find it because I'm asking him to go down into the archive. So do we have it? We got it. We got it. All right, go. We're here live at the draft. Instant reaction. Anthony Richardson is a cold.
It's a great day. You want to know why the Colts just got the quarterback with the highest ceiling in the draft. Let's go. Only one guy's going to be a top five quarterback outside of breast. I'm going to strap. It's going to be Anthony Richardson.
They trusted change psychic. I love the gamble. Let's hope he pans out 20% chance. But if he pans out, the Colts are super old contenders for the next 15 years. Lock it up.
Let's go. See, you don't have my about the tape actually more measured than I thought to be honest. Well, you totally just glossed over CJ shroud.
So CJ shroud would have never been a great quarterback or good quarterback. If you didn't start saying what you said, and you're giving all this praise, it'd be like a bite. I'm giving you this formula. And then you think you know the answer, but you were giving me such a positive formula. Like, ah, only 20% chance anything I'm saying realistic. And so far, it looks pretty accurate. Unfortunately, looks pretty accurate.
That 80% looking pretty good right now. Alrighty, we'll take a time out. We'll come on back with the news brief. There's Ryan hot.
Take a key. This is the Zach Gelb show on the infinity sports network. Time for your daily news brief. We get you caught up on the rumors reports and reconnaissance from the day in sports. Alrighty, news brief time.
Let's get CJ Gardner Johnson's reaction to getting traded from the world champion Philadelphia Eagles to the Houston, Texas. I thought they were fools. I ain't lie.
I saw 31 April fool. They damn sure got me. They playing crazy with me right now. But now with no love, like with no bad blood, it was a great phone call. Great phone call. It was an amazing phone call to be all the way thorough.
Great phone call. At first, I wonder when CJ Gardner Johnson got traded if he talked himself off the team. And I thought maybe they wanted to bring back Darius Sladen because you saw some mixed reports that they're moving on. There's still chance he comes back today. We know that Darius Sladen's off to Darius slash. It's a big play slight that he's off to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
So with CJ Gardner Johnson, I think it's one of those guys. He was going to be do a contract a little bit down the road. He's a very good player for them. They obviously appreciated what he did right the two years he was there. They've been to two Super Bowls and they won one right. And then they got rid of him last year and they kind of missed him. And then they brought him back and they ended up winning the championship. I think it's one of those things when you paid so many players and you won a Super Bowl, you got to trim the fat somewhere. And I think with some of the younger players in the roster that are cheaper right now, they can afford to go with those guys and get rid of CJ Gardner Johnson now. That's ultimately what I think ended up happening there.
I thought there was going to be some like scandalous kind of drama and reality TV thing. I don't think that ultimately is what said CJ Gardner Johnson to the Texans. Let's go to Brett Favre.
He was on Fox News with Will Kane. Brett Favre has a little suggestion for Aaron Rodgers and maybe where he should go for his next team. Could he be following the Favre way of going from Green Bay to the Jets and then to the Minnesota Vikings?
By all means sign with them. They got a really good football team. They're loaded at pretty much every position. They made it to the playoffs last year.
They got a tremendous fan base, much like the Packers. You know, if you get the opportunity, that's a good place to win. I don't, like I understand what Brett's saying. Yeah, if I'm Aaron and Minnesota says you want to come on there.
Yeah, Aaron, go there. I don't see, though, why the Vikings are going to hit up Aaron Rodgers and be like, hey, we're going to bring you in. I really think they're going with JJ McCarthy. Amenora St. Brown of the Detroit Lions commented on the Bears offseason on the St. Brown podcast. Bro, I feel like the Bears have unlimited money. This is crazy.
They're just signing new shit for like 40, 50 million dollars. Jonah Jackson, bang. Drew Dauman, bang. Deo. Go ahead. Go ahead.
No, go give it a try. Deo. A crazy amount of money. Grady Jarrett, bang. Like, they're just breaking everybody off. They're trying to get an O-line for Caleb.
They have unlimited money. What the fuck is this? I mean, hot. Ben's just making moves left and right. I'm like, fuck. You're seeing it happen, like bang, Bears, bang, Bears, like, fuck.
A little jealousy there from Amenora St. Brown, which, like, I get it. The Bears have had a good Aussie. You play for the Lions, though.
But I understand, right? Your former OC is now the coach of the Bears, and they're in your division, so you're going to pay attention to them. Here is Matthew Stafford.
He was on the New Heights podcast, and this is Matthew Stafford on his new deal with the LA Rams. We kind of worked something out last year, you know, at the 11th hour to kind of figure it out right before training camp with the understanding that, okay, we're going to come back and readdress this if I want to play again the next year. Obviously, there was some trade rumors and some things like that. A little bit tough on your family just because you don't really know what's going to be next. I think, in the end, I know that they wanted me back. I wanted to be back. We just had to kind of figure that out and get to that point. We did.
Sure as hell happy that, you know, I'm going to be here for at least another year and hopefully some after that. So, if he's going to continue to play after this year, I don't think this yearly Matthew Stafford conversation is going to change anytime soon. The question then just becomes when did the Rams pull the plug or when does Matthew Stafford say, okay, there's a good enough destination that I could go to that's better than the Rams. This year, there wasn't one out there that I thought there was a team interested in Stafford. Stafford would say, okay, I'm good.
We'll leave in the Rams for that team. Here is Matthew Stafford. He shared a wild story about Aaron Donald and a Make-A-Wish kid. This is just awesome.
This is on the New Heights podcast. He's a maniac in the weight room, right? I'll never forget. We had like a Make-A-Wish kid had been like, my dream is to go like be with Aaron Donald for a day kind of thing. And thankfully, this kid at that point had kind of beaten the odds and had beaten the cancer that he had, I believe, and like was really on the mend and it was really cool. Like he came in and you're like, oh man, this guy's like doing good, right?
High school kid, bigger kid, loved to play football. And AD was like, cool, come work out with me, right? I'm walking by. I'm like, yo, what is about to go down? I'm over there doing like banded something and like 30 minutes in and AD's just ripping curls out. Next thing you know, this kid is puking in the trash can.
Can you please like have a little couth, a little understanding like, you want to be AD, you got to work like AD. It's been on chemo for months, AD. I'm like, God, can we just relax on the bicep curls for a little bit?
It's like, how many do we do till we throw up? You know, you know what I'm just saying? Unbelievable. I've never heard a story like that. Cause like when you hear there's a make-a-wish kid, right, visiting and just wants to meet Aaron Donald.
Thankfully, right, according to the story, he already beat the cancer. So it's more jovial, but sometimes, right, you don't know how, how much longer the kid unfortunately has to live. And it's like, maybe like one of the last like happy moments that he can remember. But Aaron Donald's like, oh, you want to be like me?
Like let's work out together. And the kid starts throwing up. Like that seems like a Curb Your Enthusiasm skit.
That's one of the wildest things I've ever heard. Here is Urban Meyer. He's in favor of playoff expansion.
He wouldn't mind seeing this go from 12 to 14 teams. This is on the herd on FS1. It's a 4-4-2-2-1-1 format. Yep.
Of all the ones I've heard, it makes sense. It's a 14 playoff. Now there's going to be a big caveat in there, and that's going to be the Big 12 and ACC are going to be pissed on this thing. So our Big 10 SEC has four qualifiers, but here's the best thing. It takes it out of selection and more into access.
So I like the idea. You play into it. Number one is it does not penalize you. If I'm a coach in the current model, I am not playing a tough team in the early part of this. I'm not doing that. That's going to hurt my team. You get judged on the playoff and that's it. If you go on the conference's handle the access, the Big 10 gets four, you're certainly, you're darn right I'm going to play Texas because I want to challenge my team and it will not penalize me. If I still win the Big 10, I'm the number one seed.
I know that I'm going to lose this fight. I don't want to see them expand the playoff anymore. Four to 12 was too much. I don't think we need to go from 12 to 14, but we know the money's going to follow that. Here is Davos Sweeney was on with Andy and Ari and he was asked about why they don't pay as much attention to the transfer portal as other schools do. We just do what's best for Clemson. We've always done that year in and year out regardless of what that is, you know, and as the portal has come about. So again, you can't have the highest graduation rate in America and you can't be top in the country in retention in this crazy free agent world and go sign a million portal guys.
So, you know, something's got to give somewhere. We're not against support. We've used the portal three out of the last four years. We've used the portal. We've just signed what we need.
The portal is a great tool. And again, everybody just likes to make up their own stories and narratives and they like to get a bunch of clicks and all that. But, you know, in the meantime, we just keep winning. I still want the ACC championship, right? But the standard at Clemson took credit to Davos, what he built is to go win a national championship. And I don't think they're anywhere close to win a national championship. And I like it was, oh, we used it three to last four years.
Like you barely used it. I think two out of those three years, you sign one player each and each year. And then this year I think you signed three or four. So it's improvement, but it's not a lot, but you keep on winning the ACC.
I guess people are happy. Here's the Mariners radio network. Rick Rizz of the Mariners radio network. Unfortunately, last night got hit in the head by a foul ball.
This is how it sounded. On Hoskins. Now the set by Vargas. Here's the pitch. Swing and a foul. Did it get you?
Did it get you? Yeah. Hey, we're going to take a quick break here. We'll be, we'll come back. We'll come back right after this.
So he's going to be okay and he should be, and I think he did return to the booth today is what I'm reading. The only reason I played that when he got hit and you heard his voice, there was a clip once of Chris Moore when he kind of lost his voice on the network doing a show and it sounded just like how Rick Rizz sounded there when he got hit in the head with the ball. He was like, you know, Moore was like, you know, I'm struggling to speak. You know, Billy, Chuck alone, help me out. And Chris Moore didn't get hit in the head with the foul ball.
I got two more for you, then we'll take a break. Shaq, the son inside the NBA last night. Listen up. It's a great player. I like the way he's playing. I like what Chauncey is doing. Those guys play hard. My favorite player on that team is Isaiah Stewart. Big body, hard guy.
Like to knock people out. No, I can't let this go. Who's doing it? You said Chauncey?
Chauncey's the coach, right? Okay. Portland. No. That's what I meant. You know, first of all, I don't watch Detroit.
How about that? Boo boo. I made a mistake. Like, I would get it if when he was called out and he was like, oh, sorry. You know, I'm thinking of my playing days when Chauncey was on the Pistons. I'm clearly thinking of JB Bickerstaff now if he just misspoke. But at the end, he's like, I don't watch the Pistons.
And how should I take you seriously as an analyst? And I like Shaq, but that's not a good moment. Like, we praise him when they're ripping the NBA in the current NBA, then Shaq's deserving of criticism there. Finally, here's Rocco Media. It's just on the Rocco Hour on Sirius XM PGA Radio on Kalamora Kawa after he choked away and coughed up the Arnold Palmer Invitational last weekend, not wanting to talk to the media afterwards. Rocco was not happy. Biggest bunch of horse you could ever say.
Period. I mean, that is the dumbest, most selfish garbage you could ever say. Mr. Palmer would have hunted him down. Trust me on that. Mr. Palmer told me one thing that stuck with me. It's really easy to go in and talk to somebody when you won. Not that I've won that much or when you played well. But can you do it when you don't? That's the key.
Obviously, he can't. OK, so stop talking to me about I didn't want to talk about your job is to tell people what happened and what I don't give a about your workout in the morning and all that other crap. Tell me what happened. You lost. You lost. You got beat. That's what happens. Guess what? Goes hard.
So please stop trying to tell me I didn't feel like talking to somebody. If Mr. Palmer was there, he'd have grabbed. I'm telling you, it wouldn't have been pretty.
It would have been public, too. The tour does not need that garbage at all. Man up, talk about it and be done. He said, I don't owe anybody anything. Actually, he does. And I get this. No. Pathetic. You can say it. You can put it all. I don't care.
Come to me, Colin. We'll talk about it. I think that's the most passion I've ever heard from a golfer. And there's some sports where, you know, I'm not saying that the media is irrelevant. But if you're a star NFL player, you want to blow off the media like, all right, you got fine. So what? You know, golf needs a little bit more of the fanfare and they need a little bit more of right accessibility.
And I kind of like what Rocco said, but I wasn't expected to come with that fire and that thunder from Rocco Media. All right, we'll take a time out. Update time. Here's Zach. All righty, Zach Gelb Show, Infinity Sports Network. It's time to answer Ask the Pros' Question of the Day brought to you by O'Reilly Auto Parts. Adam in Baltimore says, Zach, DeAndre Hopkins signed with My Baltimore Ravens. Joey Bosa lands in Buffalo. Who do you think will have the bigger impact for their team this year?

O-O-O-O-O-O-Reilly Auto Parts. I'm going to say it's Joey Bosa. Now, both players are not great as they once were. Could either player find the fountain of youth for a season and be more of a positive than a negative and be successful this year?
Absolutely. And like, if you would have told me three or four years ago, you'd have Derrick Henry, DeAndre Hopkins, and also Lamar Jackson on the same team. I'd be like, wow.
And now it's like, okay. You know, Lamar Jackson still wow. Derrick Henry still wow. But DeAndre Hopkins, there's a reason he signed for only one year, $5 million. And also, you know, DeAndre Hopkins, we saw him go to Tennessee in 2023, where he's fine.
Like, had over 1,000 yards. He's with Derrick Henry and Derrick Henry's final season with the Titans. But we've already been through one of those, oh, wow, he got Hopkins and Henry on the same team. DeAndre Hopkins is now an added luxury for the Ravens. Like, the Ravens have gone into this saying, we don't need to go get a superstar wide receiver. We're good with Zay Flowers. We're good with Rashad Bateman. You know, Mark Andrews, you got to catch a football at the end, but he's solid when he's healthy. Isaiah likely is good in his role. And we're good with the multitude of running backs because our offense is Lamar.
And that's how we operate. So I actually think more is going to be asked out of Bosa and Bosa is more important because if DeAndre Hopkins doesn't pan out and doesn't find the fountain of youth in Baltimore, well, okay. The Ravens missed out on a number two wide receiver. I don't think their offense is as reliant on DeAndre Hopkins and his success, but the Bills defense now without Von Miller, we'll see if they still pursue the services of, of Trey Hendrickson.
But if this is the big defensive move of the off season for the Bills, you're putting a lot of eggs in the basket. Joey Bosa, a guy who has not been healthy the last few years. So I think there's going to be more asked out of Joey Bosa.
So Bosa to me is more important than DeAndre Hopkins is the way that I would explain it. Now Cooper cup is officially released. So when we look at the Cooper cup destinations, I do believe that the Patriots are going to be in on Cooper cup. I think the charger should be in on Cooper cup. I think the chargers should be in on Cooper cup.
Little exciting whites action right there. You know, move over Cooper to Jean and read blank and chip and you give me some lad mcconkey. Let me tell you about that lad mcconkey man. And also Cooper cup. That would be fun. Could the Cowboys be in on Cooper cup?
I could see it. I think we may should also pursue services of Cooper cup. So those are just some teams that I could throw out there.
And you know what? Seahawks would use another wide receiver after saying goodbye to Tyler Lockett, after saying goodbye to DK Metcalf, they could use a number, another wide receiver and he'd be the number two to compliment Jackson Smith and Jigba. So Cooper cup, when he's healthy, still really damn good wide receiver.
Problem is he's only played in 33 games in the last three years. So those are some potential destinations for Cooper cup. And it's what is Cooper going to make a priority? Is it winning or is it just say, let me, I already won a super bowl. I want a super bowl MVP. Let me just get the most money possible in the last, like, even though it probably would be a year deal for Cooper cup, maybe two max, but let me just get the most amount of money possible because you know what?
I've only played in 33 games last three years. I don't know how many more opportunities I'm going to get where my name is still a hot commodity. So that's where I'm at on, on Cooper cup.
