Alrighty, we continue inside the New Orleans Convention Center. Zach Galp here with you on Radio Row getting you set for the big game Super Bowl 59 between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. And now joining us, one of the best pass rushers in the NFL here today on behalf of PNG Battle of the Paddles.
That is the star of the Dallas Cowboys in Micah Parsons. Micah, appreciate the time. Good to see you. How you been? Hey, I appreciate you.
I'm doing great. So tell me what you're doing. I know that this has been going on for the last few years, but tell me a little bit about PNG Battle of the Paddles. Well, you know, PNG reached out, obviously, knowing my family background.
I know I got kids and, you know, they serving up a butt whooping every day. So what do we need? A lot of bounty, a lot of Tide, especially on the close because they spill it everywhere. But, you know, they're doing a great bundle deal.
They're giving $10 off by spending $50 or more on PNG products like bounty, Swiffer and Tide. A great event. And then on top of that, there's a huge table tennis tournament where I show why I'm the best in the business off the field also. Unbelievable stuff. We'll talk more about that.
PNG Battle of the Paddles. Micah Parsons is here with us. Hey, I'm most intrigued to get your reaction on this Luka Doncic trade.
I know you talk all things, not just NFL. When you saw that the other day, what was your first reaction to seeing Luka get traded to the Lakers? Man, my mouth dropped. And I got scared myself. I said, I'm the next person in Dallas, you know, because you really never know what happens. And obviously I had the ankle thing this year. And I thought that was the reason why I thought it was so important to get back because, you know, your best ability is availability. And I, you know, the fact that they didn't appreciate Luka for all he's done for them, taking them to a conference final, I would have, you know, the finals and, you know, doing all he did and being a five-time NBA just wasn't enough. I think that's extremely disappointing. You know, I think when you invest in a player and he's showing you so much love and did so much for your program, you would think the loyalty, the loyalty is still right there back.
And obviously you see, of course it isn't. So it's super frustrating and it makes you sad. Well, you got one year left on your deal. Do you think the loyalty will be there for you? Do you expect to get something done with the Cowboys this offseason? I hope so. So there's no trade requests coming from you.
I know, right? People see Myles Garrett with the trade request the other day. People go, Oh, I wonder if Mike is going to follow suit there. Oh no, I don't plan on following suit as long as I get a deal done. I think I'll be pretty happy. What were your thoughts by the way, when you saw Myles Garrett request to trade the other day?
Am I surprised? Yeah, because you know how long he's been in Cleveland. But I'm afraid a pair of his caliber may have maxed out when he's done. He still has no quarterback. Their money's tied up. He deserves more guaranteed money.
His money's there. So did they extend them and give him the money he deserves or let the best, one of the best rushers in the world move on? What would your pitch be? Because we see a lot of dynamic wide receivers duos in this league. How about dynamic pass rushers? Imagine Myles on one side, Micah on the other side. That would really be something in Dallas.
It would just be a race to who gets 20 sacks. I think he knows the caliber player I am. But I don't know if we can afford to pay two top end rushers.
You've got to take care of yourself first. Micah Parsons here with us. How about this Super Bowl? Obviously you know both teams well.
You've got the Chiefs who are the standard in the NFL and the Eagles, arguably the most talented team in the league. What do you think is going to happen on Sunday? It's going to be a great game, but at the end of the day, I'm always going to take the chance. I'm a key rider with them.
There's been a lot of three-piece in history and they seem to always come true, so I'm going to take on this three-piece. What's your view, by the way, of Jalen Hurts as a quarterback? Because sometimes when it comes to Jalen, people go, oh, he's good, but you know, he's got Saquon. He's got A.J.
Brown. He's got Devante Smith. He's got Dallas Goddard, a great offensive line. Your view of Jalen Hurts as a QB is what? I mean, all those things, it is true, but you know, that's what good GMs do.
They put you around great talent. It just shows you how good Howie is and what he's willing to do to win. I don't think, you know, as a GM, you say, hey, I paid this quarterback money and let me make my quarterback jobs harder because he got all this money. No, you say, all right, I paid my quarterback money to win games and Jalen found ways to win games. He's a winner. You know, you can't take that away from him. He's in this league.
But yeah, I think all can be true. He is good, but he's not elite like the Patrick Mahomes and the Josh Allens. But you know, he also has a little bit more help than them too.
So that just all goes to the GM world. How far are you guys away? Because I know you guys made the playoffs the last three years, right? 12 win seasons. And then this year, a lot of injuries, the carpet kind of came out from underneath the I know there's a lot of changes in Dallas right now, but the state of the Cowboys is kind of what maybe getting back to the postseason the year view. Oh, man, I think it's right there.
I think it's right there. We just got to go win games, get healthy and get ready to tag and play good football. Micah Parsons here with us. How was the reaction with Brian Schottenheimer get announced as new head coach? Oh, you know, it was exciting, man.
Everyone kind of digest. What do you want to see out of the defense for next year? Like if you're saying, hey, this is my message on what I want to see for the defense. It's what this upcoming year, Micah.
Oh, man, let's just keep, you know, start how we finish downhill, keep attacking and we're going to do a lot of good things. How would you describe playing for Jerry Jones? Just wondering, because we talked so much about Jerry and so much gets said about Jerry. Jerry says a lot as a player. Your view of Jerry Jones is an owner in this league is one. Yeah, people get confused with Jerry Jones. I think he's one of the best owner of GMs out there when it comes to his intelligence, what he can offer you. Not just on the field, but off the field. You know, I think he's the, he's extraordinary, man. He's the very wise man.
And I think everything he does does have purpose and you kind of just got to let him prove his way. Wrapping up with Micah Parsons, PNG battle of the paddle. So last year when we had you on set at Radio Row, we asked you for your top five pass rushers and that kind of made the rounds and had a lot of reaction on social media. I'm just curious right now, who are the top five pass rushers, pure pass rushers in the league in your opinion? Um, I would say myself, Miles Garrett. Um, I say the Neil Hunter. Um, I think Trey Henderson had another really good year. And man, I, I'm going to leave somebody out cause I'm really not thinking.
Still not TJ watt. No, no. Why is that? Can you explain that to me?
That's the one thing I don't get. I love your takes. I know you do a great job with the podcast.
You're very entertaining. This whole thing with TJ watt, what's going on there? Cause it makes no sense to me how he is in a top five pure pass rusher in the league, in your opinion. Okay. Look what you just said. You said a pure pass rusher.
Okay. If you look at what I do, you look at what my eyes do. We all move around. I play right, left. I play right tackle. I play no.
I played left guard, right guard. Everyone kind of finds their way. I mean, you know what I mean? Like if you're talking about pure pass rushers, it's about a few of us that's probably in the league of our own and everyone else is just pretty much high end rushers. They don't got versatility. They don't, you know, move around.
They don't, um, create match up. You look at pass rush percentages. I've been one of the best pass rushers just came into the league since I came to the league. When now quick hurries, like you don't really see that for most type of guys, you know, they, they reside, they relive on cover sacks where I live on one right now. Let me disrupt the quarterback. Um, QB hits and I'm not saying anything's bad with that. TJ has a over a hundred, six multi defensive player of the year. And, uh, you know, you know, he's going to the league in sacks three years to, yeah, he's going to be a hall of famer one day. But when I say where the league's at now, pure pass rusher, I mean, come on, bro.
I don't even think it's close. All right. He will agree to disagree on that one before, before I let you run, you think Mike McCarthy will land on his feet somewhere next year? Yeah, for sure. And by the way, before I say this too, when, when you guys ask these questions, yes, a pure pass rusher, I don't say like football player. Do I think he's a top five football player, defensive football player?
Hell yeah. The way he creates turnovers, the things that he does on the field is, is unmatched. You know, creating six horse fumbles is, you know, is, is great. I think he's a top five defensive football player, but pure pass rusher. So what's your definition of a pure pass rusher then? A pure pass rusher is a guy who just, you know, rushes the quarterback, has moves, finesse, ability to create havoc onto the quarterback.
When you're, when it's third and long, you said, all right, this guy is it. Now when you talk about football players, I mean, now you're in a different discussion. You know, pure pass rushing is a singular part of a football game. It's a very singular.
You know what I mean? Like you, like it's very indicative of what football actually is, you know? But when you say a full guy that creates TFLs, which T.J. Watt does, you know, you know, creates forced fumbles, creates, you know, knock back in the run game and does disruption a little bit in the pass game.
Now you're saying gets his hands in the air and get packed, PBUs. When you talk about football, I think he's one of the best football players that ever played football. But you guys would say a very singular part of what football is. You got to say pure pass rusher. Where I say he does all those great things, but he's probably not one of the top five pass rushers in the league, which is okay. Cause you probably don't need him to cause you got other great players in your team, but what he still adds in the pass rushing game helps of why he's such a great football player.
All right. The last thing for Micah Parsons, PNG battle the paddles, just what was it like to play for Mike McCarthy and what do you think his NFL future is? You know, Mike is a great guy. It's no doubt in my mind he'll land on his feet again. And if it wasn't for the confusion in Dallas, the late chance that the coaching cycle, a lot of jobs, he'll land on his feet again.
But I'm pretty sure he'll learn his feet next year. Were you kind of thinking to yourself, maybe, man, I kind of wish Belichick wasn't, wasn't coaching at, at UNC. Cause there was all those rumors about Belichick maybe joining the Cowboys. Yeah, Belichick was available. It would have been great, but you know, I think he's happy where he's at.
He chose the college job for a reason. And I wish him nothing but the best. Alrighty, Micah, we appreciate it once again. Micah Parsons here on behalf of PNG battle the paddles.
Always enjoy the time. Thank you. There he is. Micah Parsons joining us on the show.
We appreciate him stopping by for a few minutes today. The Zach Gelb show on Super Bowl Radio Row is sponsored by Tide Pods. Turn to cold water washing with Tide Pods. When you switch from hot to cold, you could save up to $150 a year on your energy bill.
Plus Tide cleans great in cold. A lot to unpack from that conversation with Micah Parsons. So he does not intend to request a trade, even though he was kind of shocked by the entire situation with Luka Doncic. And he talked about how eye opening that was for Micah Parsons. But with the fact when we have the Rich Ising crew coming on in. So we have to say hello to Chris Brockman. You know, he's probably already recruited Miles Garrett around here. We know that.
He's doing some Patriots pushing obviously. But when you look at what Micah said with us, he doesn't intend on requesting a trade for the Cowboys as long as they pay him. I think that's very fair. And I know that the Cowboys get sloppy with these negotiations.
I know that they usually wait until the last possible second. With what Jerry Jones does in the way that he operates a football team, I think it's very in line in terms of what Micah Parsons operates and kind of pushes his brand as well. Like if you have an owner and a player that are in probably great lockstep, it's really Jerry Jones with his vision and Micah Parsons with his vision. So I don't anticipate him requesting a trade. I think they'll find a way to get a deal done.
It's just will there be any sloppiness? Will there be any kind of turbulence that ends up happening with Micah Parsons and the Cowboys where we get to that point? But as he said, he doesn't intend on requesting a trade.
But hey, intentions can obviously change. I thought the response when it came to Miles Garrett. Where Miles Garrett, right, who's going to join us in a bit, he's one of those players that is going to be highly sought after. No one has any problem with him besides including Browns fans.
I think some of them even understand it, requested a trade. And you looked at some of the teams. I suggested the Commanders, the Eagles, the Chiefs, the Lions, the Buffalo Bills. Those are teams that I threw out there. But you could potentially have the Cowboys be in the mix.
And I saw that there was even the odds the other day. They had him as the number one team to potentially go to were the Dallas Cowboys. But Micah's response there, it'd be a race to 20 sacks. It'd be a competition and who could get there. But with that being said, he doesn't know if they have the money to go around.
And I can get that right. He's looking for his Micah Parsons. You're bringing Miles Garrett. He wants to stay in Dallas and Micah. I don't think that means that Micah's time in Dallas will be coming to an end.
But that's kind of a player perspective of that. I thought he was going to be like, hey, Miles Garrett, come on to Dallas and join the Dallas Cowboys. I think that's the biggest question this week. Where's Miles Garrett going to wind up? There's been some Cooper Cup conversation as well. And still, the other two non-Super Bowl storylines. Will Aaron Rodgers be with the Jets next year? And then also what Tennessee's going to do with the number one overall pick to lay the foundation for the NFL draft.
So really good stuff with Micah Parsons. Hey, I've now done this two years with him. I don't understand. He could explain it all he wants. You can't call TJ Watt a top five pure pass rusher, I think is a joke. But we've had that conversation now two times and he was complimentary with him. But he just doesn't like the wording of a pure pass rusher. And when you led the NFL, what, three of the last five years in sacks? I don't know how you can't call him a top five pure pass rusher in the league.
But Mike is entitled to that opinion. Alright, let's take a timeout from Radio Row. When we come on back, Zach Gelb here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Miles Garrett. He is very popular around here. I saw our old boss, Spike Eskin, was trying to already recruit him to Philadelphia when he walked by him. Miles Garrett could have stopped by. We'll spend a few minutes with him when we come on back live from Radio Row in New Orleans after these short messages.
Alrighty, welcome back in. Zach Gelb here with you on the Infinity Sports Network. Miles Garrett going to be stopping on by in about ten minutes from now.
Running a little late, but he will make out some time for us today and make up some time with us. So we will talk to Miles Garrett ten minutes from now right here on the Zach Gelb show on the Infinity Sports Network. Already a lot of reaction to our conversation with Michael Parsons that we just had a few moments ago. He does not intend to force a trade from the Dallas Cowboys.
Gets into a little bit about Miles Garrett and that talk that he could be traded to the Dallas Cowboys and he had to say, hey, you know, it'd be a competition, you know, first to 20 sacks. But he doesn't know if there's enough money to go around in Dallas to afford both Michael Parsons and also Miles Garrett. We know Michael Parsons got one year left on that contract and I thought his reaction on on Luka Doncic was fascinating because no one thought Luka was going to get traded. No one even thought that was a possibility and then BAM Luka Doncic ends up getting traded and it still doesn't feel real. It happened late Saturday into Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, you've had all this time to digest it and I still can't believe that Stu's Los Angeles Lakers have Luka Doncic. And if you're an athlete in another sport, even in the NBA, it's eye opening that if Luka can get traded for that. Hmm. What does it mean for me? And I guess you should never be surprised by trades in the business of the NBA and the NFL.
But there are still always things that happen where the jaw does hit the floor. Alrighty, let's do this. We will get to Miles Garrett coming up in about 10 minutes from Radio Row on the Zach Gelb show. That will be a highly anticipated spot.
Tamara Davis can now stop by in the third and final hour of the show. Warren Stapp still to come as well as there's a lot in the news with Colorado with Travis Hunter and Sidor Sanders and their NFL futures. But now let's update you to some of the biggest storylines in the world of sports with some audio from Radio Row. Let's get to a news brief. Alrighty, let's get to a question that was asked to Travis Kelce about Taylor Swift and the officials. Yes, you heard that right from Monday's zoo of opening night, which is media night.
What do you love more, Taylor Swift or Phantom 15 yard roughing the passer penalties in the playoffs? That's a cool question. Anybody else?
Stu, just getting out of a limb here. Travis Kelce wasn't a fan of that question. I don't think so, no. I don't think so, no.
Did you have a problem with it? Now, if you understand the night, it's such a zany, stupid, dumb, pointless night. Yeah. And, you know, it made news, but, you know, all these aggregators, I saw them like, oh, this is shameful.
Take away the guy's credential. Like, they're comedians that go to this night. And you could say, oh, yeah, it stinks that Travis Kelce had to answer that question, but that's the night.
So at that night, I get it. Anywhere else, yeah, it would be ridiculous. Like, if that was at a Chiefs media availability once opening night happens, and that's today at a press conference setting, stupid. But for it to happen in that setting, it's not surprising, and I don't think there should be outrage over it. I totally agree. I think you said it best.
In a normal press setting, it would be bad, but in this case, no. It's a lot of laughs on Monday night. Let's get to Patrick Mahomes if the Chiefs' hatred nationally motivates him. I don't know if it motivates me. I think I'm so motivated by just the success that we have together as a team. I know that the guys on our team, how much they love football and how much work they put in on every single day basis. And so when we step on that football field, we're going to come together as a brotherhood and as a family and just play our best football and live with the results after.
So it's not like I'm embracing the villain or doing anything like that. Let's also get to Nick Sirianni and controlling his emotions. That was always a big topic of conversation. Even last year when he beat the Chiefs, he had some things to say to the fans walking off the field, and Sirianni, he wears his emotions on his sleeves. Listen up.
I think I've gotten better at that as the year has went on, as the years have went on. But to say I'm going to stop being excited when we score a touchdown, all the work, or stop being excited after a win with everything that we lay on the line to do so, that's just not who I am. Yeah, I think Sirianni, he has reeled it in a little bit. He's still a player's coach. I don't think he's a doormat anymore. But with that being said, when you look at someone like Nick Sirianni, there's going to be moments where he does things that are very college-y that you would not expect from a head coach. But he is still someone that you can't be fighting fans.
Things are going to happen on the sideline where there's animation, but you can't let it get the best of you, especially when you're 60 minutes away from winning the Super Bowl. LeBron James on his future with the Los Angeles Lakers. I'm here right now.
I'm here right now. I'm committed to the Lakers organization. I'm here to help Luka and Maxie make the transition as smooth as possible.
As a leader of the team, as one of the captains of the team, it's my job to make it as seamless as possible. And let's get to LeBron James. He was asked if he thought the trade was fake when Luka Doncic got traded to the Lakers. You guys seen the report. I was out with my family at dinner and we got the news and the first time I heard it I thought it was for sure fake. I thought it was a hoax.
People messing around, whatever. But then when AD called me. AD FaceTimed me and I talked to him for quite a while.
And even when I got off the phone with him it still didn't seem real and it still pretty much didn't seem real. It didn't seem real until I saw Luka today and then I saw a clip of AD at the Dallas Shootaround. You know maybe I'm a dummy here and a lot of people tell me LeBron had to know. This is one of the rare times where a star like LeBron James, I think he actually was in the dark on this one. And he just didn't know that he was getting traded because I really do believe Rob Polinka and Niko Harrison had to keep this a secret.
Polinka because he probably thought it was too good to be true. But then in the Niko Harrison side if this got out and you were shopping him. Eventually the fans would find out and then I think there would be a revolt and the trade wouldn't happen.
I think you had to kind of keep this a secret even though it doesn't get to the most in your return. And I don't know why you'd be trading Luka Doncic anyway. Alrighty.
That's a condensed version of the News Brief. This is the Zach Gelb Show right here on the Infinity Sports Network live from Radio Row. Super Bowl 59 getting you set for the big game between the Chiefs and the Eagles. We'll take a time out. We'll come on back. I think he may be the most popular person in here.
Myles Garrick going to join us live on set. Update time first. Let's send it back to the most popular guy in New York City. El Capitan.
Marco Bellotti. Alrighty. Welcome back in to the Zach Gelb Show Coast to Coast on the Infinity Sports Network. I've been to a lot of these.
I've been to 15 radio rows in my life. I don't think there's been a more popular person today than Myles Garrick who is with us on behalf of Oecos. A lot of people want to talk to you, my friend. How you been? Yeah. I've been quite the popular guy, but I'm doing well.
So, you know, sometimes we forget athletes are human beings. And when you make a decision like you made, there's a lot that goes into it with the place that you call home. So how difficult was this decision because you can't make everybody happy?
You can't. But at the end of the day, you can make yourself and your loved ones happy. And that's really what it's all about. Just trying to look out for my best interests and the future of my career. I think that's been what it's always been the main purpose, the main goal. And I know there's some people in Northeast Ohio that are disappointing.
I will always have love for that community. But I just want to continue to press forward my career and achieve higher heights. And I'll be honest, sometimes a player requests a trade and we're like, Oh my God, I can't believe he's doing it. Yours is understandable. You're one of the best pass rushers in football, if not the best. And you're trying to go on out there and win a championship. I get it. It makes sense to me.
Yeah. I mean, I just want to make sure that people understand that this is all about football. It's not about money or getting a, attending another contract. Just want to play meaningful football at the end of the year. Be playing into late January and into February and having that feeling of holding that trophy. When you walk around here today, what's the one team that you got the most?
Hey, come join my team. Oh man, the Eagles have been out in full force. I've heard, get them out from Detroit and, you know, commanders have spoken up a couple times as well. And the Eagles, right? They're in the big game. Howie Roseman's always reeling and dealing.
We even have some of their media right here to the right recording this conversation. My old boss, Spike Eskin and Ike Reese, they're chanting at you, come to Philadelphia. You can see yourself eating some cheesesteaks and winning a championship in the city you probably love. I mean, we went there for a preseason.
Definitely got me a cheesesteak. It lived up to my hopes and I'm not going to stay too attached to any one team at this point. I know my fate really is in my hands, but it would be a hell of a destination. And then also, I was just talking to Micah Parsons and your name came up. And Micah said it would be a race to who could get 20 sacks first if you did join the Dallas Cowboys. But then he also said, I don't know if we could afford to have both Myles Garrett and Micah Parsons with the contract situations. Yeah, it could be tough. I know his new contract is coming up here soon. Same with me. I'm up for an extension in the near future as well.
It could be tough, but if they want to figure it out, if their management wants to figure it out, it's very possible. Who is the pass rusher just wondering, right? Because you're at the top of the list. Who's the pass rusher that you respect the most in the NFL, that's someone that you watch and you go, man, he's just as good as I am? Well, I'm not sure if I look at anyone and I make direct comparisons and say they're just as good as I am. In the same zip code.
In the same zip code? You have some very talented pass rushers across there. I have a lot of respect for these guys.
I mean, I've got my own division. Trey, you've got another guy in TJ. You've got Micah, you've got Nick, you've got Joe, you've got... Max Crosby. Definitely Max. I can't forget Max. He's a hell of a force.
Hope to see him healthy soon. Aiden Hutchinson was coming into his own and really turning into a dominant force. There are names that I leave out, but those guys are very special. Any given day, those guys can hit for one, two, three, four sacks. It's just a matter of scheme and playing with the lead helps. Having an offense that can allow you to pin your ears back and really display your talents. We do a lot in the media where it's just offense, offense, offense, offense, offense.
And in this game, it's easy. Mahomes, Kelsey, you've got Saquon Barkley, you've got Jalen Hurts, you can go on and on and on. A.J. Brown, Devante Smith. As a fan, I'm more excited about the defenses in this one.
The defense for Kansas City the last two years has been better than the offense. We know Chris Jones is a beast, Karl Optis is a beast. And then defensively for the Eagles, what Jalen Carter has done this year, my oh my, he's awesome. He's been outstanding.
Chris Jones, he's a veteran at this point, you know exactly what you can get out of him. George Karl Optis really coming into his zone, he's made the most of his opportunities, he's played out of his mind this playoffs. And like you said, Jalen Carter and that defense, they're just like a bludgeon. They don't really mix it up that often, even though they can, they have some blitzers that can get there and make impactful plays. But I mean that front four, they're deadly right now.
They've been on the tear. And you know SPAC is going to mix it up on the other end of things with the Chiefs. So if they can keep them from stacking the box against Saquon, they can have a real effect on the ground. You want to be in this game, right? That's why you play this game. Sometimes though, when the Super Bowl is here and you're not there as a player, I have a lot of players tell me they don't watch Super Bowl Sunday. Are you all over Super Bowl Sunday watching this game? I'm doing what my family and friends are doing. If they choose to watch the game, I'm not going to be bitter or petty and distance myself from them to not watch the game. I just want to be able to sit down and enjoy their company.
If that's what they want to do, that's what we're doing. What's the food spread? What's the food spread here? If you're watching the game, if the family says, hey Miles, we want to watch the game, we want to watch the Super Bowl, we want to be like everybody else, you got to suck it up a little bit. What's the food that you put on the table?
LG. My dad already knows that I need that nachos and queso. That's a staple.
I love me a dog for the game as well. You go wings? They go wings. I started to dabble more into wings actually.
It's been more recent, but I also have some pizza on deck. Are you a ranch or blue cheese guy with wings? Blue cheese.
Thank you. That's a big character flaw for me. If someone says that they are a ranch guy over blue cheese, the fact that you said blue cheese, you know what? That may, in my opinion, make you the best pass rusher in the NFL that you go blue cheese.
I'm glad I finally set myself apart. And I'll tell you, I know how this is going to get spun. In Buffalo, they're going to go wild with this, with Bill's Mafia with wings and blue cheese and all that. The headline is going to be, Miles Garrett likes wings. Miles Garrett is going to the Buffalo Bills. It's that easy.
It's fun to be spun that quickly. And also, you could be a missing piece for a team. There's teams that are close. They bring you, especially with who they have to go up against in Patrick Mahomes. That's a missing piece for Buffalo.
Hopefully it'll be the great equalizer for some of these teams that will knock around the door. How about offensive linemen in this league? Who are some linemen that you go up against that you just know it's going to be a fight? Marlotta, he really improved this year.
I was very impressed with, one, just how strong and how large he is at the point of attack. But he also got even better at pass blocking. I mean, that goes without saying, but he's a partner on the other end. Lane has been an all-pro for years to come. His standard is so high. Laramie, he's been playing at a high level for quite a while now. And, let's see. How about Deion Dawkins? Yeah, I can't forget the snowman. I went to college with him. College buddy of mine. I mean, he's exceptional.
He doesn't get the praise that he should just because he's playing with a quarterback who's as mobile and as strong and talented as Josh is. Let's see. I love that you know the you already snow part, too. Yeah, you already snow. It's a great university. If you want to join, we're welcoming. I was once the dean of you already snow university.
I know a person that can get you in. That's my boy, man. I have a lot of respect for him. Let's see.
Werfs. I didn't get a chance to go against the last couple of years, but he's fun to watch. He's strong, man.
The technique that he has, he's able to manipulate guys and put them where he wants them to go. Stuff like that gets me going even deeper than London. I know you've got to bounce, so let me offer you the platform. Tell me what you've got cooking today with Oikos. I've got cooking the first game day commercial.
Definitely the first Super Bowl commercial. You're in it? Yes, sir. Me and Juno Temple. She was a hell of a partner in crime for me during my first big gig. She was just so fun to work with. She was great. She was clever. She was fun. She had a lot of energy.
She really owned the moment and helped me come into myself and try to open up and really take it in stride being on set with her. You've seen the commercial, I'm assuming, already? I've seen some of it.
I get kind of put off by watching myself or hearing myself. It's a little weird. I know what you're saying. I've watched it a little bit. I'll probably watch it when it airs. That's why you've got to watch the Super Bowl. There's a commercial about you. Social media is going to be buzzing when this commercial happens.
Exactly. I'm glad to be a part of something like that. Oikos has been part of my diet here recently.
Steph and I worked with them last offseason. Oikos Pro especially. It's been a great source of protein. No dairy cup in the morning. Getting that. Some granola. Some banana.
And getting that strawberry Oikos has been a game changer and helps me get the day started strong. Once again, Oikos is showing up strong for football's biggest night for the sixth straight year. The time has proven that strength can come from places you've never expected even yourself. And obviously it's featuring pro football star Miles Garrett, a multi-nominated actress from the all-new ad, Surprising Strength Showcasting, that there's more to being strong than what meets the eye. Miles Garrett, I appreciate the time today. I know this is a busy day for you so we'll let you get running. Yes sir, thank you very much.
Thank you so much. There he is. Miles Garrett joining us on the show live on Radio Rose Super Bowl 59 for the big game.
A lot to dissect there. I think the biggest takeaway is that Miles Garrett is starting to dabble in wings and he is a blue cheese over ranch guy. So first off, that is very good to hear and also we know how people in Buffalo are going to take that. But hey, when he's watching the Super Bowl on Sunday, you see two teams here in the Eagles and the Chiefs, who if they get Miles Garrett, it's just a move they don't need to make, but it makes them even better. And I think Kansas City is a destination. I don't know how you get it done, but I think Kansas City could be a destination here.
We've discussed this in terms of the last few days since this news did break. And people asked me, give me five teams. And the five teams I gave you, I had the Buffalo Bills, Inna Ward and the Lions, those are the two obvious.
And then I said, okay, Howie Roseman, he'll go make a move at this, he'll go make a run at this, he'll go take a chance at this, and he'll swing, we'll see if it ends up connecting because they're still a very good team and there is a need to add another pass rusher, especially when the Bryce Huff situation doesn't work out and so on and so on. But you move through the entirety of these teams and the possibility when you get with the Bills, when you get with the Lions, you get with the Philadelphia Eagles, we've mentioned the Kansas City Chiefs, and then there's the commanders too. The commanders are going to be a potential destination where it's quickly how that changes in one year, where last year you're asking me at the Super Bowl that there's a player of the caliber and the elk of one, Miles Garrett, that he's requesting a trade, we wouldn't say at all that the commanders would be a destination but you get that pig out there and he's no longer with the organization in Daniel Snyder and then since then you get the quarterback, Dan Quinn is a player friendly coach, respected coach in this league, Adam Peters is a solid general manager with what we've seen, and you get a player like Jayden Daniels, then it's boom, everyone's interested or there's a lot of people that now used to say, cross the commanders off the list, don't want to go to that organization or they're going to have to overpay to get me. Now teams are going to be circling the commanders and say, okay, I'm going to be interested. I'll give Miles Garrett credit there, I don't think it's that tough of a spot if I'm being just honest, but I will give him credit that he didn't dodge any questions, I think since we asked him kind of from the human standpoint first, it did open him up a little bit more than probably another typical interview that he does do here on Radio Row because people just try to like to get the headline right away.
To me, I'll tell you how the sausage is made a little bit here, the guests very early on will either be comfortable with you or they're not going to be comfortable. And when you have this trade request that has been blasted everywhere, and I think most people just understand the idea of the trade request, he wants to go in a Super Bowl. And right now, they're not in a position, the Cleveland Browns, to get to a Super Bowl, forget even right now a playoff spot.
But even if they get to a playoff spot and they turn that around a little bit, there's not a belief and there's not conviction that they're anywhere close to contending for a Super Bowl. And you look at Cleveland, Joe Thomas is someone that was in Cleveland for years, Joe Thomas is someone that was a great player, one of the best offense alignment of all time, and never was really on a team that you were all that afraid of. And for quarterbacks, yes, coaches, yes, we really pigeon-holed those guys in do you have a Super Bowl ring or not. Most people, when they talk about Joe Thomas, they don't say, oh, my goodness gracious, he's not someone that hasn't won a Super Bowl, you go great football player. But that doesn't mean that there isn't a desire there from players outside of quarterbacks and coaches to go in. And I wondered earlier in the week, when we knew we were having miles on and this stuff came out, how serious was he about winning? Because some guys say they want to win and then they'll go to a team that can make the playoffs, they'll give them a new contract and they'll talk about, okay, this is a guy, and this is a spot that I could sell myself on winning a championship and talk myself into.
If that's the case, you got to talk yourself into going to a spot to try to win a championship, you're going to the wrong destination, you're not serious about winning a championship. And I threw this around the other day, nothing about, my God, it's amazing how quickly things get out on the internet. I already have alerts from aggregators about our interview with Miles Garrett.
I just refreshed my Twitter feed and it's already over ML Football and all this other stuff, so we'll get the videos, we'll get the clips out there, but it's amazing. When that interview was happening, there was four members of the Philadelphia media, like, oh, Zach has ties to Philadelphia, we know Zach, we know Zach's going to go get an answer here at a Philadelphia side. But getting back to the point with Miles Garrett, I wondered if he would go to a place like Atlanta, right? A place where you say, you know, I really consider myself in a chance to go win a Super Bowl, but in reality, Atlanta's nowhere close to winning a Super Bowl.
Now maybe Michael Penix takes off and maybe Michael Penix does what happened to Washington with the commanders and Jayden Daniels, and maybe they could eventually become a Super Bowl destination. But you're leaving right now in your last few prime years and you're going to want to be in an actual Super Bowl contender. And I threw out those five teams and I'll throw in a six with the Cowboys. Eagles, obviously Super Bowl contender. Chiefs, Super Bowl standard. Lions, Super Bowl contender. Commanders, now a Super Bowl contender.
Like you go through these destinations, Eagles, Chiefs, Lions, Bills, Commanders. Those are Super Bowl contenders. But then we talked about the possibility of Miles Garrett getting traded to the Cowboys. And if that's the case, yeah, you have Miles Garrett and Micah Parsons. You could destroy some quarterbacks. But on offense, yes, C.D.
Lamb is nice. He's a heck of a player, one of the better wide receivers in the league. That's a good, not a great quarterback. Is that enough for me to say that the Cowboys are a Super Bowl contender? In an organization where I don't have a damn clue what to expect out of Brian Schottenheimer, like all those other teams that I mentioned, Sean McDermott's a good coach.
Not great, but good. Dan Campbell, one of the better coaches in the league. Andy Reid, the best coach in the NFL.
Nick Sirianni, now getting his praise and his moment in the spotlight. Dan Quinn has been to a Super Bowl before. Brian Schottenheimer being there, and that's a great unknown.
You know, what happens if he's an unmitigated disaster? And we've seen before, coaches become unmitigated disasters on talented teams, and it derails an entire season. Look at the Jets. Now, I didn't think Robert Salas should have been fired. I don't think it was unjust. I thought he should have been given time because you're going to Jeff Ulbricht.
That's not going to do anything. But poor coaching and sloppy coaching, you look at teams this year like the Jets and the Bears. The Jets and the Bears have talent.
You may not think they're great. You may not think they're anywhere close to winning a Super Bowl, but both those teams should have been competing for a playoff spot this year. And a big reason why they weren't was they had crappy coaching. So for me, when you look at Myles Garrett, my biggest takeaway from that interview and that conversation when he joined us for about 10 minutes or so on Radio Row, and I appreciate his time, was he's actually serious about winning. And I'll be honest, I didn't know if I was going to walk away with that take because I've seen it now, and not to sound like I'm a curmudgeon, but not that I'm an old man, but I've done this enough, where I've heard the athletes say, hey, I'm serious about winning. I want to get traded and go to a Super Bowl contender. And then they get traded and they're trying to sell you on the place, and it's not a Super Bowl destination. That dude, and maybe I'll end up being wrong, but he's hell-bent on going to an actual Super Bowl contender.
And you guys know me, that list is not long in this league. There are not a lot of Super Bowl contenders in this league. There are teams that you can talk yourself into being a Super Bowl contender, but there are not a bevy of Super Bowl contenders in this league.
And now you've got to have the capital. You've got to be willing to maybe alter the contract too, and give him more money, and then there's other stuff as well. But Myles Garrett, my biggest takeaway from that conversation, I didn't know if it was going to be the case, is he serious about going to a Super Bowl contender. So teams like the Eagles, the Lions, obviously the Chiefs, the Bills, they've got to call in, they've got to check in, and ultimately, Cleveland's not going to win this battle. It makes sense for them to move on. He wants to move on, and you've got this deal to play on out. Warren Sapp is going to join us when we come on back live from Radio Row. Zach Gelb, here with you.
