Live from the palatial yet not overly ostentatious studios of the Infinity Sports Network here in beautiful New York City, sitting on top of the 10th floor of 345 Hudson Street. Welcome on in to what is a Tuesday edition of the Zach Gelb show across all the great local Infinity Sports Network affiliates, Sirius XM, Channel 158, the free Odyssey app, and of course streaming live on YouTube. 855-212-4227 is the number to jump on in. That's 855-212-4227. You could always get at me on Instagram where I'm straight flexing or via the good old cesspool of Twitter X at Zach Gelb.
That's Z-A-C-H-G-E-L-B. And we come to you live always weekdays, Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Eastern, or SAMTA's favorite time zone, Pacific time from noon to 3 p.m. Pacific. I got Stu and I got SAMTA rocking and rolling with me. We got a good show to get to today. Glover Quinn is going to join us 20 minutes from now. Robert Horry is going to stop by at the top of the hours. You got to tip off the NBA season tonight, huh?
What? Yes, basketball is back even though pretty much a lot of our attention is with the NFL, college football, and also in addition to that the World Series that comes your way on Friday where I don't know who I'm rooting for in this World Series yet. I could root for the happiness of one of my producers in Stuart Kovacs, which Stu's a good guy. Stu deserves to be happy. Or I could go back to like young Zach Gelb who grew up hating the Yankees. Now I don't hate the Yankees, but then there are some insufferable Yankee fans, some of them that I work with that and not used to, to be clear, that if the Yankees do win, they're going to kind of rub it in the face of the Mets because there's already been the big brother smacking down on the little brother kind of in the last 24 to 48 hours. So I haven't made my mind up yet on who I'm rooting for in the World Series. I'll do that from now until Friday when the first pitch is actually thrown.
I'm still standing by Ipe Mezuhara should be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. By the way, Stu, before I get to Aaron Rodgers, I know we got to move it quickly in this segment because of the fact that we have Glover Quinn coming up 20 minutes from now and I'm very excited to talk about the Detroit Lions with him. I have now known you since what, 2017?
Maybe even earlier than that? It's going close to 10 years now. Wow. So I have known Stu for like eight to 10 years. Known of you, have worked with you. I would say though, for the last five years, I have really, really known you, I think is a fair assessment.
We exchange daily emails, texts, and obviously a ton of communication that goes on when I see your lovely face each and every day. I don't know if this is something new. I don't think it's something new. I don't think it's something you just added to your email sign-off, but up until today, I never knew on your email sign-off that you were a junior. You are Stuart Kovacs Jr.? I am a junior, yes.
My dad is also Stuart. Oh, has that always been on your email sign-off, Junior? I think that's new. I added that a few weeks or months ago. Gotcha.
Not new as in today, but recent. Yes, okay. So I guess I'm not very observant or I just never scrolled to the bottom of the email. For some reason, I scrolled to the bottom of the email today. Cuz Stu sends me the Sports Minute sponsorships each and every day. And usually they're small enough where you could just copy and paste it. But for whatever reason today, I was doing it off my phone and I saw at the bottom it was Stuart Kovacs Jr. I think I know why. Usually I send it to you on my phone, but today I sent it from my computer.
Oh, there you go. So I'm only using my phone, you're only using your computer, and somehow that translated into me finding out that you were Stuart Kovacs Jr. So Stupak Jr. is what we're gonna go with for Stuart Kovacs now. All righty, let me get to Aaron Rodgers. I just think at this point, and I used to have a guy who would religiously DM me, and I guess he was a Packer fan. I don't know, maybe he wasn't a Packer fan, but he goes, I'm sick and tired of you talking about Aaron Rodgers. And I would get these messages like nonstop about Aaron Rodgers and the conversation about Aaron Rodgers. Let me say right now, the juice is no longer worth the squeeze when it comes to Aaron Rodgers.
A few years ago, there was a lot of conversation, a lot of drama. And I think at the time, Aaron had a right to be annoyed with the Packers organization, even though the Packers ended up getting it right, moving on from Aaron and drafting the replacement plan a few years prior with Jordan Love, even though Brian Gudekunz was met with a ton of severe criticism at the time. But in the immediate aftermath of that, even though Rodgers was annoyed with the organization, even though he was tuning out Matt Lafleur, had to kind of get talked into developing a better relationship with Brian Gudekunz, because that's how nasty it did get. The press conferences, everything that we talked about, Aaron Rodgers, when he was winning back to back MVPs, the juice was still worth the squeeze, even though they had their shortcomings in the postseason. But in that final year in Green Bay, that's when the juice started to no longer be worth the squeeze. And to the Packers credit, they didn't elongate this relationship another year because the two years prior, he won the MVP.
And it was like, let's see him have another underwhelming season. The Packers didn't do that. They made the trade and it ended up working out well for the Packers and it's been a disaster, not even underwhelming. We're at the stage where it is an unmitigated disaster for the New York Jets. At least Brett Favre, when Brett Favre joined the Jets, at least gave you a good first half of the season.
The lousy Jets are sitting here with a two and five record, but their only wins coming up against two stinky football teams in New England and Tennessee. But at the tail end, and I know Rodgers was banged up and there's always excuses for Aaron, but at the end of that run in Green Bay, he was bad down the stretch. And they lost that playoff game where he made mistakes, or excuse me, the last game that prevented them from going to the playoffs, where he made mistakes up against the Detroit Lions. And he walked off the field with Randall Cobb, and we knew that was it for Randall Cobb. I didn't know if it was it for Aaron Rodgers, and we eventually found out that that was it for Aaron Rodgers.
But what Aaron is kind of perfected is sitting on top of his throne and then having all of his servants kind of do his dirty work or carry on the message that he relays. That is what Aaron has done a really good job at, where he still controls the narrative. Even at times when he looks crazy, he says ridiculous things or the play isn't backing up the things he says or the player that he once was. And this is just the reality of sports where not everyone goes on to have a 25-year career. Not everyone is Tom Brady when you could play elite football when you're 40 years old and you're like fine wine, you get better with age. And I've heard all the excuses in the world for Aaron Rodgers at the end in Green Bay.
It's LaFleur's fault, it's Gouda Coontz's fault. They never got him someone to compliment Devante Adams. The defense isn't good enough. All the special teams isn't good enough.
And sometimes those excuses were valid. But there are also moments where Aaron Rodgers at the end of Green Bay or in his last few years of having a chance to go win a Super Bowl with Green Bay made crucial mistakes that cost them games. The vision around up against the Niners forced it to Adams had a wide open Allen Lazard down the middle of the field.
Up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a home NFC championship game. Brady threw interception after interception after interception in the second half. Rodgers could never capitalize.
Rodgers could never take control of the game. But Rodgers has this ability because the power of his voice and also with the quarterback that he was to make us believe that, hey, this is worth it for the Jets. And that was a good move by the Jets.
And I don't fault the Jets for taking the risk, right? Where were the Jets going before they got Aaron Rodgers? But where have they gone since they've got Aaron Rodgers? Cuz don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have Aaron Rodgers over Zach Wilson. But right now, the football team I saw last year when Rodgers got hurt and it was such an unfortunate start to his Jets tenure, and we got to see more Zach Wilson than anyone would have seen, is not that much different than the Jets that we're seeing this year with Aaron Rodgers through the first seven games of the season.
The line still hasn't been figured out. Garrett Wilson is good, not great. Breeze Hall has been inconsistent. This defense is vastly overrated. And the quarterback, where Jets fans just said, we just need average or above average quarterback play, right? That's all we need.
That's all the Jets need. He's not giving you above average. He's not giving you average play. Aaron Rodgers right now is playing like a bad quarterback.
And he's also playing like a quarterback who's 40 years old, playing on one leg. And the messaging that I've heard from Aaron Rodgers throughout the last 24 to 48 hours, oh, the team's not ready to go. Well, you already got a coach fired. Oh, the energy isn't good. Well, maybe you should lead better. Maybe you should lead better. Or, oh, we need to start having more fun again. Whenever I hear that, hey, we're taking it too seriously. We're playing too angry. That goes against everything Aaron Rodgers stands for.
What is this? A participation trophy Youth Football League Aaron Rodgers? Let's just have fun. Let's just enjoy it. Your team should be PO'd. This is a team that right now is the most disappointing team in the NFL. The most disappointing team in the NFL. They started into the season, headed into the season with expectations that even I thought were too high. But this should be a playoff team with the way that they're constructed. And right now, I don't wanna hear about, oh, this could happen, that could happen, this could happen, that could happen.
That could happen. Shut up. Go out on the field and actually prove to the people that doubt you, which is me included, that you guys are better than what you're playing. Cuz all these excuses, all this bull junk that I'm hearing right now, it's kinda sad. It's sad that an all time great is going out like this. And I understand Rodgers has a bus reserve firm in Canton, Ohio. I understand he's one of the ten greatest quarterbacks talent wise to ever play in this game.
I understand right after he waits the four or five years, he's gonna have that gold jacket and he is viewed as an immortal. But there are different levels when you rank the all time greats. And we know Rodgers is in the exclusive club.
But even in the exclusive club, there's another tier and another exclusive club to the exclusive club. And Rodgers is in the exclusive club but he's not in the exclusive exclusive club. He's not sitting at the same table as Tom Brady. He's not sitting at the same table as Joe Montana. He's not sitting at the same table as John Elway. He's not sitting at the same table as Peyton Manning. He's not sat at the same table as Patrick Mahomes, he's not. He's not sitting at that table. If he showed up he would know people at that table, maybe they Maybe they would say, hey, we'll give you a sympathy invite.
And you could maybe grab a seat from another table, et cetera, our table for about 30 minutes until security comes over and says, sir, get back to your table, the maitre d'. But Rodgers is not sitting at the table of one of those top five quarterbacks of all time. He's just not. And the thing with Aaron is even though he's an all time great, when his career does come to a close, whether it's this off season or the off season after that, because maybe plays for the Jets one more time next year, which I don't even see the point right now if it continues to go this way. But they just traded for Devante Adams. And we know Woody Johnson, even though newspapers are outdated, he's in the business of being on the back page of the sports section. And that's how he runs his football team, drama, drama, drama, drama, drama, headlines, headlines, headlines, headlines, headlines, him and Jerry Jones similar in the last 20 something years.
And they haven't done a lot of winning. But for Aaron Rodgers, his career, when it's all said and done, we're all going to say all time great Hall of Famer, all that stuff. There's going to be a but, but with how early he won, it's alarming how he never forget about winning another Super Bowl, didn't even get back to another big game. And with what we've seen since the last year in Green Bay, you know, last year, it's nobody's fault.
But then the first seven games of this year, the juice right now is clearly no longer worth the squeeze with Aaron Rodgers, 855 212 4227 855 212 4227 is a Zach Gelb show on the infinity sports network. When we come on back, we'll discuss one of the best teams in the NFL. It's the Detroit Lions. They are absolutely loaded this year, even after losing Aiden Hutchinson for the year, we had the deadline coming up on November 5. Who should the Lions target from now until that November 5 deadline? We will get to Glover Quinn when we come on back. The Detroit Lions are one of the best teams in the NFL and they have legitimate Super Bowl expectations this year.
And it's a story that's a whole lot of fun to watch and follow. Now let's welcome in someone that played for the team does a great job with believe the podcasting network, believe in lines, and that is former lines offensive back Glover Quinn here with us once again, Glover, appreciate the time as always. Thanks for it. How you been? I've been good. How you been? Well, I've been fantastic. So I was really impressed by the Lions effort this past weekend, and I know they got off to a slow start down 10, nothing to the Vikings overcoming that injury that happened the week prior to one of their leaders and Aiden Hutchinson, but to see them scratch out that victory up against the Minnesota Vikings, all they went through this past week and the slow start in the game up against Minnesota. Extremely impressive.
Oh yeah. I mean, they started out shaking, like you said, and I was sitting there like, Oh my gosh, this is going to be one of those games. You know, Minnesota came out, they had a, um, you know, a big play in the beginning. Dan Campbell went forward on fourth down and got a big stop.
They had all the momentum and they come out and get a run Aaron Jones down the sideline. And I'm just like, Oh boy, here we go. Cause I know how it is planned in Minnesota. It's a great environment. The fans are awesome.
And there are five and no football team. So you know, they, they're playing with a lot of confidence. Their fans are, are, are, are being fans with a lot of confidence. And so I'm like, it's going to be one of those games and then, you know, they go down 10 nothing. And then all of a sudden the lines put together a drive, they slow the game down.
Um, David Montgomery went out the game and when David Montgomery went out the game, I was, I was sitting there with some, some friends watching the game. And I was like, you know, this right here just means they get a little more of Jameer Gibbs. You know, they get a little more of Jameer Gibbs and he provided that spark that, that, that the lines needed that, that dynamic run down the sideline. Uh, incredible run, incredible footwork. Um, and then once that kind of happened, it's kind of like they, they settled down, they took over the game.
Jared golf was dialed in, um, especially against the pressure. You know, those guys were just, they were rolling and, and, and once they started, once they turned it around, I knew then I was like, all right, I feel like they got it. They got it. Uh, they got it in the bag.
It was, it was a really good game though. Um, two really good football teams and the lines did just enough to get the win. You're a deep team and you watch this team. There's a lot of stars on the lines.
I was having this conversation with the buddy of mine over the weekend. If you had to pick who their best player is now with Hutch being out, who do you think their best player is pound for pound on this football team in Detroit? I mean, I think if you look defensively, you got to go with Brandon. I mean, Brian branch, um, he's been playing awesome.
You know, I think he's had four turnovers in the last two weeks, three inception in the fourth fumble in Dallas, um, just been all over the field. Um, so I think him and, you know, obviously Kirby Joseph has been playing well. The two safeties really have been playing well this season.
So I think you really got to go there. Um, I lean, I lean next, um, Hicks, I think his name has been, uh, um, the D lineman. Yeah. I mean, McNeil, he's been, uh, he's been playing really good on the inside as well. Obviously you got the big extension, um, but I think pound for pound, you got to go with the safeties and I'm gonna say Brian branch, um, offensively, you know, me, obviously Jared golf is, is leading the charge. He's playing really well. Um, but you look at, you know, Jamir Gibbs is dynamic, David Montgomery, you know, they call themselves Sonic and knuckles and, you know, those guys are doing their thing, man. I think, I think everybody's feeding off for the run game and, you know, that opens up things from our Ross St. Brown, they just got a whole slew of guys, but I think you got to go Brown branch on defense and probably Jared golf or, you know, those two running backs on offense. Yeah. I don't think there's a wrong answer.
I could just as equally argue. I'm in Ross St. Brown or even the big fella up front and Penay Sewell. I actually think the answer may be Penay Sewell that offensive line is coming right now in Detroit.
Oh yeah. That those guys, you know, when you build a team like that, you know, you haven't Taylor Decker, who's been there for a long time. Graham glass guys been there for a long time, you know, Penay Sewell, just all pro talent. These guys are phenomenal. And when you, when you build a team from the inside out, it allows you to be able to control the line of scrimmage.
It allows you baby to play tough hard-nosed football and come downhill and just hit teams in the mouth and, and, and, and insert your wheel on the game. And they've been doing that offensively and defensively. And you know, you write Penay Sewell may be one of the, you know, he's probably one of the best, you know, alignment in the game.
For sure. I saw a crazy stat the other day. The Lions offense is the only team, Glover Quinn with more offensive, TD's 18 than incompletion 16 in a four game span since the merger. With that being said, I know you've been very complimentary about Jared Goff. He's always been like, it's a complex conversation. Even though we got to a Superbowl in LA, they gave up on him.
It's clearly now working in Detroit. How do you view Jared Goff as a quarterback? Just wondering right now, when you compare him to the rest of the league, You know, I think, you know, Jared Goff is one of those guys that, you know, he, he has an even keel, even demeanor, you know, when he's rolling, he's rolling, you know, I've, I'm not going to lie. I've been critical of Jared Goff in the past last year.
I think they were going on a stretch, a few games where the office just wasn't performing really well. But like in that moment, we needed Jared Goff to, to provide a little spark. Sometimes you can't just, you know, be the calm guy. Sometimes you gotta, you gotta provide a little spark.
You gotta, you gotta, you know, say something sometimes. And so I've been critical of him of that. But when he's good and he's rolling, he's rolling and you know, he, he doesn't you know, force a lot of balls into coverage. So he doesn't throw a lot of intercept.
He doesn't turn the ball over him. He's had multiple games this year where he's been at least 12, 15, 18, for 18 passing. You know, I think Sunday he was probably 15 or 15 before he had his first incompletion.
I know another game this season, he was like 18 to 18. That's why they have more touchdowns than incompletions because he's not throwing the ball into coverage. A lot of times, a lot of times he's throwing the ball and the guys that are wide open, but that's a credit to the O-line that's giving him protection. He's not having to force and rush a lot of throws. He's not getting hit a lot.
And so that all plays a part into it. So the run game, being able to control the run game. I think a lot of those incompletions that he's had in this whole entire season came in week two against Tampa Bay because they didn't establish the run game against Tampa Bay and they threw it way too many times.
And I think that's probably when he had his most incompletions this entire season ever since then. They've kind of really been controlling the game, running the ball and throwing play action passes. And guys have been wide open. He's had to make a critical throw in critical moments. He's made that throw. But on the other hand, the guys are catching the ball. You see a lot of teams run a league where guys are dropping touchdowns, dropping passes. The Lions guys have really been catching the football.
So it takes two. Jared Goff obviously has to make good throws and the guys on the other hand has to catch the ball and they've been doing that. Last week I had a chance, Glover Quinn, to talk to former NFL general manager Thomas Dimitrov. And I said, Lions, Max Crosby trade with the Raiders. What is it going to cost the Lions? He said at least two first round picks.
Would you be willing to give up two first round picks for Max Crosby to get him in Detroit? I mean, I think that's that's tough. You know, I think they're in a position to where they can do it. I think they have a great group of young talent. You know, they've paid a lot of guys. They still got some guys left to pay. They've drafted well over these last few years. I don't know if they want to give up a first round draft pick, but I do know the windows in the NFL close real quick, just like they do on defense, right? When the guy is open, the quarterback has to anticipate that throw and make it because those windows close really quick.
So the window of winning, it closes really quick. And right now you got a good group. You got a bunch of young guys. You haven't had to pay Brian Branch yet.
You haven't had to pay Kirby Joseph yet. What your mayor gives, you know, you're going to have some guys coming down the pipeline. So I don't know if you give up two first rounds. But if that's what you got to do, this, this right here, this right here could be the year.
Yeah. And I have to pull that trigger. Well, that that's why I would say bleep the picks, you know, two first round picks the next two years. They're going to be pretty late picks. Anyway, you got a window to go win a Super Bowl for an organization, as you know, has never done it. That's why I would do it.
And that's what the cost. But I'll ask you this on the flip side of that, Glover Quinn, with how the league is right now. And look at what the Chiefs are doing. They're winning with their defense first. I know they have the all time great quarterback in Patrick Mahomes, but he is right now more interceptions than touchdowns and the way that they've won over the last year has been defense first. We know the lion's strength is offense. When you look at this defense, even without Hutch, do you think they don't need to be great? But can they still be good enough to win a Super Bowl with what you're seeing so far from this defense? Well, I think the thing, you know, they've been very opportunistic on defense. Like I said, I think Kirby Joseph has four interceptions.
I think Brian Branch has three, maybe he and then we caught two and Dallas caught one last week. So they've they've been really dynamic as a safety group. But the thing that was worrisome was this this past game in Minnesota, I don't know if they got enough pressure on Sam Darnold and you know, Sam Darnold has been playing great this season. Obviously, there were a 5-0 football team, but I think if you're going to beat and compete with the other top echelon teams, you're going to have to get some pressure on the quarterback because it's going to be tough for DBs to stick in coverage against the top teams, the better wide receivers consistently over the course of a game, especially when you're trying to get deep into the playoffs and get to the Super Bowl. So I think they definitely got to figure out a way to create some pressure. I don't know if they can continue to just a lot of quarterbacks to sit back and just have a field day and throw the ball to whoever they want to without any pressure. So they're going to figure something out.
Either they got to go and get somebody that that's going to cost a lot or you got to find somebody that fits their system, fits what they're doing. Maybe somebody that's familiar with Aaron Glenn, you know, that they can get that may not cost as much but could provide some kind of spark and they do it as a unit, you know, as a group of past rushers, but they're going to have to figure out a way to create some pressure. Last thing I'll ask you, because I think the Lions right now with the way that they're playing, they're the team to beat in the NFC. I'm down on Philly this year. I'm down in the Niners right now.
Rams are banged up. I truly do believe the representative in the Super Bowl, what I've seen so far, is coming out of the NFC North. So when you look at the entirety of the NFC with your playing background, who's the team that you, I don't want to say afraid of, but maybe fear the most that all they could be a pain in the rear end for the Lions and potentially prevent the Lions from getting to the Super Bowl in the NFC. Well, I mean, I think if you if you just looking at it in that regard, I think it would probably have to be one of the other teams in the NFC North, in my opinion, because we play those teams twice and so, you know, it's hard to beat a team three times, right? So you beat Minnesota already. So you go beat Minnesota again when they come to Detroit, you know, you play Green Bay. So you beat Green Bay twice and then you run into those teams again in the playoffs.
You know, they're very familiar with you. Obviously, they're playing good football as well at the moment. And it's very hard to beat a team three times. And so those would be the teams that would probably worry me the most just because they're familiar and we've played them multiple times already. But like you said, I mean, I don't think the East is very strong, you know, with Dallas and the commanders.
I don't know. Well, you got Philly obviously and Philly can get hot, right? Philly got, they got players and, you know, Philly may be having the formula that they want, right, kind of struggle, grind through the season, but, you know, get healthy at the right time. Guys kind of lock in at the right time and you get on fire in the last three or four weeks of the season and ride that momentum into the playoffs.
You know, that's kind of the trend that they're on right now. Obviously, they come off a big game against the Giants this past week, so they could take that momentum and kind of get themselves going. The West, you know, San Francisco, they're the same type of team, right? Obviously, they lose Brandon Nyuk, but Debo Samuels, you know, hopefully they get Christian McCaffrey back at some point, just because you want to see great players out there on the field. I don't know what was the final thing with his Achilles. I don't know if it's torn or whatever, but he hasn't played yet. But San Francisco has been there each and every year.
So you always got to think, you know, that they can get the job done as well. But if I just had to choose right now, like you said, I would say it would be one of those teams out of NFC North, Minnesota, Green Bay, the team that we, you know, if we meet them in the playoffs, that would be our third time playing them this year. He's the former NFL defensive back for the Texans and the Lions. He, of course, is Glover Quinn, who now hosts Believe in Lions, along with Lions writer Brandon Brown to bring you all the latest buzz surrounding coach Dan Campbell, Jared Goff, Jameer Gibbs, and the rest of this highly anticipated Lions squad. Glover, appreciate the time. Thanks for doing this. Oh, man. Thank you for having me.
You got it. My name is Glover Quinn, joining us on the Zach Gelb show on the Infinity Sports Network as we highlight the Lions who are red hot right now. And I would love to see I would love to be in New Orleans this year for the Super Bowl and be talking about for a week at Radio Row, Dan Campbell, the Detroit Lions, you know, the NFC North. I just love the Bears have now become fun. The Vikings I'm enamored by with what O'Connell has been able to do.
I have so much respect clearly for the Packers organization, so that NFC North I really do believe we're going to see the Super Bowl represented from the NFC come out of the North. That's just what I feel. All right.
Well, come on back. NFL player. NFL coach. College player.
College coach. We do superstar shout outs on a Tuesday right here on the Zach Gelb show on the Infinity Sports Network. But first, we toss it over to the man sitting to my left for the latest Infinity Sports Network sports slash the Ackman, Rich Ackerman That's right, the defensive player of the week is sponsored by the Navy Federal Credit Union who proudly serves the armed forces DoD veterans and their families members on the mission learn more at Navy federal dot org. This week's player Steelers cornerback Beanie Bishop in Sunday's win over the Jets.
The rookie out of West Virginia had six tackles and two interceptions Pittsburgh as a team held the JTS Jets, Jets, Jets to only 15 points. Yikes. We'll get the superstar shout outs in just a second 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. Let's go to Todd in Tampa. Next up on the Zach Gelb show, Todd would shake him, my man Zach, I just want to just want to say I want to apologize to America for a 10 point lead. Okay. Then Christian worse gets called for a hold a ticky tack hold after Baker hits Godwin in the end zone to go 17 17.
Then Baker throws the pick and then by the two yard line, then our kicker who's missed May 12 15 in a row hits the upright and, and, and, and calamity strikes. Okay. Cause Todd both doesn't know what to do with that. And then we hit Mike Evans in stride.
I love Mike Evans. Okay. But if you're going to pull your hammy, you come down with the football and the drops it in there. Okay. Come on now.
Okay. You're laying out, you catch your football. We lost our two receivers and we got to find a way to win, but we, and we were hitting Lamar Jackson and then, and then, and then we stopped here and we can't, we caved.
So again, the Buccaneers found a way to give one away up 10, nothing at home, but thank goodness we're four and three. We're still in charge of our own destiny and, uh, and we can go from there, but, uh, fellas wake up. Okay.
Yeah. We're in the three South and the teams are a little weak here, but this team, when we're healthy now, I don't know what we're going to do without God. When it might Kevin's, we're going to have to find a way to get doves because they ain't canceling the game. But the bottom line, basically you should have taken that ball and ran it yourself from the two yard line and tucked it in the end zone. Come on now. Don't, we don't need that.
You're going to get the shotgun and take it up the middle. Okay. There's no excuse for us doing that right there and, and, and, and, and get Todd seems like there's a lot of mistakes you guys made last night is what I got a lot of mistakes. Sloppy play, a lot of slobs, a lot of self-inflicted stuff. I'm not, I'm not, I concur with that, but at the end of the day, we're still four and three and we're still in first, but you're as good as your record is.
And did this team when, when we're healthy now don't get me wrong. Okay. Mike Evans is out.
God, what is that? It's a different ball game. Okay. This team when coach right. You got to remember that Malcolm Glazer senior moved Tony Dungy out because he couldn't, we couldn't win the big game.
Okay. And, and, and, and, and Todd Bowles is not, he's a coach good enough to get you to the playoffs, but he's not a good enough coach to get you over the hump. That's Tampa Bay and appreciate the phone call, Todd.
Tom Brady's no longer there. They're good enough to get to the playoffs. They're good enough to win a playoff game, but thinking they're going to do anything other than that, like, you know, come on. You went up against one of the better teams in the NFL too. So this idea that they let one slip away, you know, the worst penalty was bad because I think it was seven. Nothing would have made it 14 nothing.
Your memory serves me right. That was bad. It was a bad call, but still, even if you were up 14 nothing doesn't mean that you're going to be able to slow down Lamar Jackson for the entire night. Lamar Jackson and Derek Henry right now are just so tough to beat and the Ravens actually let you guys in a weird way back in the game. And for some reason, Todd Bowles, when the game is pretty much over, thought he could still go on out there and come on back.
And unfortunately now it looks like Chris Godwin is going to be out for the season or out for a large chunk of the season with that injury. So, you know, Tampa Bay, they could make the playoffs. They could win that division. But remember Atlanta already beat you once you play Atlanta again, coming up this weekend, you lose that. And then you got Kansas City and the 49ers after that rough time to get hurt right now. I think the Falcons are going to win the division and I know the Falcons just got blown out by the Seahawks.
Alrighty. We'll get to that Falcons Seahawks game coming up because I have a shout out to give a few shout outs to give. Let's get to a little superstar shout outs. Another week in the books who stood out on the gridiron. We give you our superstar shout outs right here on the Zach Gelb show. I felt bad, Stu, for Todd in Tampa.
He sounded down in the dumps right there. I felt like I was his football therapist, which I always am happy to do at 855-212-4227. My office hours, by the way, are 3 to 6 p.m. Eastern Time. You don't have to make an appointment.
You just walk in, you talk to Samter, you get on the air and we take appointments, walk-ins only, no scheduled appointments, walk-ins only. So I felt like I was a good friend there for Todd in Tampa. He sounded very emotional about the game. But anyway, let me get to a player I'm very emotional about and he's a good player. The Steelers clearly don't believe in him because they declined his fifth year option. He has not played behind good offensive lines and all this guy has done has been a 1,000 yard rusher in the NFL and that's Najee Harris. And on Sunday Night Football, with the whole world watching, well, some people may have been watching more of the Mets-Dodgers, but it's still the NFL, so probably the whole world watching.
Steelers and Jets, you get the point. Najee Harris had 21 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown, so I give a little superstar shout out to Najee Harris. All right, for my NFL player, I'm going to go with another running back, a running back also in Pennsylvania in that Saquon Barkley of the Eagles, obviously going up against his old team, the Giants. There was a lot of talk, especially locally, nationally as well, but especially locally about how he would be perceived and how he would do against his old team.
And he dominated 17 carries, 176 rushing yards and a touchdown. All righty, let me get to my coach in the NFL for superstar shout outs. We will go to Mike McDonald.
Old McDonald had a farm, EIEIO. The Atlanta Falcons got absolutely destroyed by Mike McDonald. He walked into their house and he walked into their house and put up his feet and watched a 20-point victory for the Seahawks, who after losing three in a row, they get back in the win column and now they are four and three. And that defense, and he's a defensive-minded coach coming over from Baltimore, picked off Kirk Cousins twice. He was 24-35 for 232 yards.
I know Bijan Robinson had a nice game, but it was really Bijan and no one else really showed up. So a good job by the Seattle Seahawks taking care of the Atlanta Falcons in this one. And I give the coaching shout out to Mike McDonald.
All right, I will go with Mike Tomlin as my NFL head coach. Obviously going into this past week's game, there's a lot of criticism, you know, making that move from fields to Wilson. From who? Who criticized you? Only a few people. Did I?
You and I might have both have done that at some point. The whole world? Yeah, mostly everybody. For one week at least. That's why he's highly compensated. He's highly compensated. That's right. Not constipated.
He may be sometimes, but compensated he was talking about. That's right. For one week at least at work, they beat the Jets by 22. They're 5-2. They look like at least a team that's going to make a run at the playoffs and they have a real manageable stretch coming up. They have the Giants, the Commanders, maybe with or without Jayden Daniels, and the Browns twice.
So they can kind of rack up some wins here if Russell Wilson plays well. Alrighty, let's go to college. Army and Navy are both in the top 25. They're both undefeated.
Army's quarterback, Bryson Daly, is going to join us tomorrow on the extravaganza. And this is what could potentially happen. We already know Army plays Navy each and every year. They could play though the week prior in the American Athletic Conference Championship game. Think about that. They could play in the American Athletic Conference Championship game and then have their highly anticipated matchup on repeat the following week.
That would really be something. But Bryson Daly, the quarterback at Army, is my superstar shoutout this week for college football. Running the football this year, 130, not Ashton Jenti numbers, but pretty damn good, 138 carries for 909 yards and 19 rushing touchdowns. And oh yeah, by the way, he's only had 27 completions on the season for 629 yards, 7 touchdowns, no interceptions. Bryson Daly, Daly having great performances, not to be confused with our YouTube chatter Daly. Oh, maybe they are related.
I don't know. But Bryson Daly gets my superstar shoutout. I will go with another running back, and that is Virginia Tech running back Basial Tooten and against Boston College. He had a great game this weekend. Say that 10 times fast. Yeah, I know.
Tooten. 18 carries, 266 rushing yards, 3 rushing touchdowns, added a receiving touchdown. He had a great game. No doubt about that.
Alrighty. Indiana. I know your quarterback's probably out this weekend. He's doubtful, could be coming back after that. Had a really good first half before getting hurt. But how about the job of Kurt Signetty? Indiana, right now, is not only ranked, they've been ranked for a little bit, they are undefeated. And he came in, coach, he was talking a big game, check my resume, winning is what I do, and we're like, oh, hold on, buddy. You're coaching Indiana.
Alright? And it's one thing when you beat Florida International, Western Illinois, UCLA, Charlotte, Maryland, Northwestern, but this was the biggest test of the season. Even though they're not this great program anymore, it was Nebraska. And not only did they beat Nebraska, they dragged Nebraska up and down the field about 100 times in that game.
It was embarrassing. And Kurt Signetty, he wins 56-7, they're 7-0, and the schedule the rest of the way, Washington, Michigan State, Michigan, the Ohio State, and Purdue only got one loss on that resume. Maybe they're in a Big Ten championship game. But one loss on that resume, Indiana, college football playoff.
You kidding me? The Hoosiers? Last year when I saw Indiana play, for some reason, my friends who are Michigan fans, they rented out a room and it was at an Indiana sports bar in the city. And I remember talking to their fans and they were getting excited because I think Indiana scored right out of the gate, and I'm like, you guys are a basketball school, pipe down, so Indiana's now a football school, baby. They're a football school. So Coach Signetty gets my coaching shout out.
Snoop, take us home. All right, I will piggyback off your Bryson Daly here, and for my coach, I will go with two coaches. Ooh, two-time. Jeff Munkin of Army and Brian Newberry of Navy, they're kind of related as you mentioned a few minutes ago. Both undefeated, both in the top 25, both have Notre Dame in the future. I know Navy has Notre Dame this week, Army has Notre Dame in a few weeks, but like you said, that dream scenario of them playing back-to-back weeks and playing for that possible spot in the college football playoffs, that's pretty interesting. It would be wild. AAC championship game, maybe both at the Heisman ceremony, both their quarterbacks as finalists, and then the following week, the game that was scheduled has a lot of hype around it already.
Could have even more hype, hype on steroids, if it goes down the way that we just laid it out for you. Alrighty, that is the Zach Gelb Show on the Infinity Sports Network, our number one in the books. That of course was Superstar Shout-Out, the segment that we do each and every Tuesday highlighting a player in NFL, college, and then also two coaches, NFL in college as well. The NBA season, yeah, it started. I know we have the NFL, I know we got college football, I know we got the World Series coming up on Friday, but we'll talk some hoops with the man that knows a thing or two about winning some championships. Robert Horry is going to join us on the other side. We're coming on back in five minutes, don't go anywhere.
