It's not fast food, but it's so good! Our daughter Jessie loves playing detective. A clue! But since we discovered she has sensitive skin, we've been playing detective too. We thought the problem was our puppy. But it was actually our old detergent.
Aha! So we switched to Tide Free and Gentle. Tide Clean's better than the leading competitive free detergent, and it doesn't leave behind irritating residues. Plus, Tide Free and Gentle has no dyes or perfumes, so it's gentle on her skin. Case closed.
If it's got to be clean, it's got to be Tide Free and Gentle. Alrighty, rockin' and rollin' our number two of our radio program. That's right, it is the Zach Gelb show on the Infinity Sports Network. We should be linking up momentarily with the head football coach at Nebraska, and that of course is Matt Rule. He enters year number two with the Cornhuskers. We saw year number two at Temple. He became bowl eligible.
We saw year number two at Baylor. He became bowl eligible. They just missed the bowl game this past year.
Obviously turning over the football and protecting the football from all the turnovers they had last year has been a major point of emphasis. And also, they landed an enormous, and I mean an enormous, recruit as Dylan Raiola, right? We all know his father, Dominic Raiola, longtime offensive lineman in the NFL, played his college football at Nebraska. Dylan Raiola's uncle was actually on the coaching staff as an offensive line coach for Nebraska, so a lot of family ties there. And Dylan was originally committed to Georgia, and through time and time and time, he flipped and ended up linking up with the Cornhuskers. And the expectation is they're in a quarterback competition right now, but I would expect that I'd be surprised if Dylan isn't starting week one, 25 days from now, up against UTEP. But this is a Nebraska football team. When you look at their schedule this year, UTEP week one, Colorado, big game.
If it's Raiola against Adore Sanders, that's a heck of a week two game for college football fans. Then Northern Iowa, Illinois, Purdue, Rutgers, Indiana, Ohio State, UCLA, USC, Wisconsin, and Iowa. So a tough end to the season, but the expectation definitely for Nebraska this year is to be bowl eligible, and I'm expecting Nebraska to be in a bowl game.
I have them going eight and four, so definitely some big expectations for Nebraska who has not made a bowl game since the 2016 season, and we'll see if they could do that this upcoming year. And I was able to go to Lincoln last year, and man, those fans are just dying for a winner. And even in a game where they did not perform particularly well, that place was packed to the brim.
It was a full packed house. I had a Runza for the first time ever, which was absolutely delicious, and it was very cool to see that great college football scene. So it's time to get to a college football fix right here on the Zach Gelb show. We miss college football. We can't wait for the 2024 season. And we're counting down the days to kick off. Here is your college football fix only on the Zach Gelb show. Alrighty, rock and roll 25 days away until Nebraska kicks off its season up against UTEP. Big expectations this year. Ball eligibility is the feel around the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and their fans want to see it this upcoming year. Let's welcome in the second year head football coach in Lincoln.
That of course is our pal Matt Rule. Coach, appreciate the time as always. How you been? I'm doing great. I love your shirt, by the way. Yeah, I am wearing a Nebraska polo today. I'm probably not equipped to operate your mat drills and be on your strength staff, but I do look like I could be on your strength staff today.
There's no doubt. We would be honored to have you on the sideline with us, my friend. Hey, just pay me in Runzas and I don't even need any money. All right.
That's all I need is a Runza. Those things are delicious. Fantastic.
They're fantastic. So let me start you off with what you've sensed from your team this off season. You've been through college football for so many years.
You know what the jump is from year one to year two when you take over a program. What have you sensed though from your team this past off season, Matt? I think they realize that they're good. You know, they're a bigger team than last year. They're a stronger team than last year. They're more, I don't want to say disciplined, but they know what they're doing kind of in our system more than they did last year.
And even the disappointing five and seven year, you know, in year one, we had lots of opportunities to win those other games. And so, you know, bring in some more players, develop the players that you have. I think our guys walk around knowing that I think we have a pretty good team and obviously we have to go do it.
But I sense a confidence about them from the work they put in and from where they think they are. Now I've watched your press conferences, others on your staff, players as well. I know you guys are hammering home, protecting the football. You guys would have been in a bowl game last year if you could have protected the football. Is that something you could teach or is it just you have to emphasize that and even at times overemphasize it until you see your team protect the football on the field?
I think it's all three. I think you have to teach it. I mean, so many, you know, if you're a bad coach, you just yell about the results, right? Like I don't turn the ball over, but tell me why, you know, do we throw the ball the wrong place? Do we run the wrong route? Are we not holding the ball correctly? So we try to teach it and teach it again and again and again. We try to emphasize it, drill it. And I think the biggest thing is, is when it starts to come from the players, not, not waiting until the ball's on the ground. But, you know, when a guy's not carrying the ball properly, they're hearing it from their teammates.
The guys on defense are going after it. I think that's important. So, you know, it was a historically bad year in terms of turning the ball over last year. And, you know, if you don't learn from that, then you're a fool.
And so we refuse to be foolish. Matt rule here with us, the second year head football coach at Nebraska. Everyone, when they talk about your program now, it starts with Dylan Riola.
What have your impressions been so far the youngster? Well, I mean, he's a winner, you know, he understands the game. He's thinking about the game, you know, all the time.
He's studied everything, you know, for receiver lines up wrong. I mean, he knows it. A lot of guys when they're that age, they're playing kind of, you know, not clear minded because they're just they just know what they're supposed to do. But, you know, Dylan knows what every guy on the field supposed to do because he's put so much time and work in. And so he's, like I said, he loves to compete. He loves. He loves playing. He loves practicing. And I think that's contagious and it's good to have from him.
I listened to the entirety of his press conference the other day. Now, when I was 19, I was confident, but I was also immature. It seems like he has the perfect blend of confidence and maturity. It doesn't seem like he's a freshman when I when I hear him speak at a podium.
Yeah, I thought he did a great job the other day. And I think I think a lot of a lot of that is really him understanding that it's you know, it's not all about him, right? It's about the team. It's about winning. He didn't come here to make himself a household name, though.
Obviously, we all want those things, right? He came here to restore Nebraska to be a part of restoring Nebraska to its glory. You know, his father played here. It means something to him.
He has pictures of himself when he was little. And that's really a lot of the guys on our team. We have guys who came back, didn't go to the NFL. They came back for another year, even though I told them not to.
I said, go to the NFL, make some money. They came back because this place means so much to them personally. And so Dylan's another one of those guys like that. So I think when he gets up there and talks, you know, he doesn't want the spotlight on him. He wants it on his teammates because he knows it's going to take everybody for us to be successful. And I think that's so important for him to have those traits because like you even saw a little bit of it.
And I know you joined us today. He decided to to commit to Nebraska and flip from Georgia. And you talked about the comparisons of Patrick Mahomes. And then he walks into fall camp looking just like Patrick Mahomes. And man, that was a social media craze.
And he hasn't even played a regular season game yet. So the way that he managed all that I thought was pretty neat and important because, you know, some kids there's a lot of hype and the hype could actually ruin them. Yeah. You know, I think the biggest thing for, for, for all of these guys is to realize that, like, you know, hey, when you're in the spotlight in a positive way, it's fun. I mean, it's, it's, it's, it can almost be addicting, right? Like you love the attention.
But if you start all of us, we start doing things for the, for the, for the, you know, pleasure and approval of others, we're never really going to be happy. And so, you know, I think the, you know, the great thing about Dylan, I think the great thing about our players is, you know, we try to always turn things back into the locker room, you know, hey, you know, making life about your family, making life about your future, making life about your teammates and your team. And so I thought he did a good job of that, even in those moments, you know, but sure. If you're, if you're 19 years old and you're getting, you know, you're getting tweeted at by ESPN.
I mean, who wouldn't love those things? But at the same time, you know, he's done a good job of making it the team, the team, the team, Matt rule here with us. Would you say he has earned the trust and respect of his teammates already? Oh, no doubt.
Yeah, no doubt. I think he's a great teammate. He's a hard worker. I mean, in this day and age, you know, players, players, players respect production, you know, I mean, they respect production, but they, they still respect the guys who come in and put the most work in. And, you know, we kind of have that blue collar type team like this, this team's act. This is a lot like those temple teams we had, like, this is kind of like, you know, this is kind of if you want the coaching, if you want to coach and play in Philly, and you want people to respect you in Philly, you better be tough.
And you better work. And I'd say it's the same thing here in Nebraska, you know, if you want people, if you want people, hardworking, tough people, if you want them to respect your football team, you better have those types of players. And so, Dylan, all of our guys, I think they've done a great job of they do that.
And they are they're part of the ethos of this state. Matt rule here with us just with what you saw from the spring. Now as we get closer and closer to the fall and go through the summer, have you seen Dylan just grow in the short time you've had with them so far? Well, I think anytime you're a freshman player, I think you had, you know, you have to, you know, you kind of learn, then you relearn the same thing, and you just keep doing it until it becomes like second nature. And I think what you're seeing when you see him out there now is you're seeing a guy that's probably been through it for the second or third time, all the play calls all the situations all the way we do things. And, you know, the one thing I've tried to encourage him to do is embrace when things don't go well, you know, so many quarterbacks, you look at them, you know, they're they're phenoms, some of them don't have a bad day till they get drafted. And all sudden, they're, they're a bust as a first round traffic.
And everybody's like, how did that happen? Well, you know, they didn't know how to handle frustration, you know, maybe they did not handle the hardest, the ones who make it to me, you look at them, you know, you look at like, Brock birdie, you look at Tom Brady, and all that, you know, adversity he went through, and Michigan, the same for, you know, Aaron Rodgers, you know, junior college, to Cal, you know, you look at Drew Brees, coming up, you know, through through through Purdue back before Purdue was really a power. I mean, these guys, Patrick Mahomes having to carry, you know, you know, Texas Tech on his back each and every week, you know, being the five star recruit who goes to the five star school, and nothing's ever hard, and all sudden, you get to the NFL, and you get hit in the face, and you don't have a great team in front of you, and you struggle.
I've tried to really embrace Dylan to, you know, encourage Dylan to embrace the process, to embrace adversity, to embrace when things don't go well, to lean into it, not to pull, some of us we pull away from things when they're uncomfortable, but to lean into it. And so his maturity has allowed him to do that. And I think it's what, you know, makes him, it makes him viable and ready to play as a freshman. And everyone's excited to see Dylan play. I know you're in a quarterback competition right now.
Is there any update on what's going on with that quarterback competition? Yeah, I mean, Dylan's done a great job. I mean, he's played, played really, really well.
We're blessed also. You understand how football is, you know, everyone's fighting to compete. You know, we have Heinrich Harburg who, you know, won five games last year at the University of Nebraska, and there's not many people have done recently. And, you know, he and Dylan have this amazing relationship, but are also fighting tooth and nail to be the guy on the field. And then we have Danny Kalen, who's another elite recruit, who's, you know, probably one of the fastest processors I've ever seen. So we have probably one of the best quarterback rooms I've ever been a part of. And they're all fighting, fighting with each other right now, but in a good way. And so, you know, they all get their reps. So we'll, you know, when the time comes, we'll make a decision. But, you know, I'm looking at things nowadays as, as with this new expanded playoffs that, you know, I need to have guys ready for, for, for game 12, then hopefully get a bowl, go bowl game or big, big 10 championship game, game 13, maybe get into the playoffs at some point. So I'm trying to build depth and, you know, the guys are hanging along with me with it. Now, I saw you said the other week that you think 14 should get in each and every year in the big 10.
I'd be surprised if that's not the case. I know Paul Finebaum, our buddy, went after you a little bit for that. And I may have said some not nice things about Paul, but that's a different topic for another day. But on that topic, you know, just expand a little bit more on that thought, why you think the big 10 should get at least four teams each and every year? You know, you have a 12 team playoff, right? And you know, I think four teams from the, I think four teams from the big 10. And I think four teams from the SEC should get in.
I don't think there's a debate about it. Like you basically just took some of the best teams in the country and would normally be part of our non-con. You took Oregon, you took Washington, you took USC and UCLA and you put them into our conference. And so, you know, I think if you go through this conference and you emerge 10 and two, 11 and one, nine and three, even maybe some years, even eight and four, depending on who you always played, it's like the NFL, you know what I mean?
Like, yeah, unfortunately, sometimes someone gets in from the biggest conference in the NFL, but, you know, the wildcard allows you to get more from the better conferences. And the big 10 and the SEC are the standard bearers right now. That's no disrespect to the big 12.
I was a part of it. No disrespect to the ACC, but that's just unfortunately or fortunately, however you look at college football, the way things have gone. And so if you're going to play the best schedules, then you take into account the big 10. I mean, we're playing, we're playing nine conference games. You know, this year we play five road conference games. You know, some of these other conferences play eight. And again, I'm not hating on them. That's their own business, but the big 10 is hard.
It's cold. It's physical. And so yeah, four teams from this league should get in every year. Four teams from the SEC should get in every year. And then, you know, if it expands to 14, then they can figure it out then. But yeah, I know. And I think most people, most people that really, really study it and know it as well. And, you know, we all have jobs.
Do we all have to say certain things, but I don't think there's a lot of people that actually really debate what I said. Matt rule here with us for a few more moments. Let me get to your defense. So in your previous stops, whether it was at temple or Baylor in college, you've always had Phil snow with you, but you've had other rock stars emerge on your staff, whether it's a Fran Brown, Elijah Robinson, and what they've gone on to do the other day, I was talking to Josh Perry. I knew from watching last year, how good of a defensive coach Tony white is, but man, it seems like day by day, starting to get more and more praise nationally. What does coach Tony white bring to your defense?
Well, he should get a lot of praise nationally cause he's, he's, he's, he's the guy, he's elite. And you know, we're, we're one of those teams that still practices physically on defense. You know, we still hit and strike and get off blocks and run to the ball at practice and nothing other people don't, but what we do it every day. And and so our guys, they buy into it. And then you have this creative you have this creative mind and Tony's that, that, that, you know, puts together a system that's really, really hard to go against. I know because I watch our offense come against it every day.
And so it's really difficult. And then you have great players, you know, you have Tommy Hill is one of the best corners in the country. We have one of the best D lines in the country led by, you know, temple made Terrence Knighton.
You know, we have linebackers who can go silent, silent, great safety play. So we're really, we're really talented. And at the same time, we're also have a swagger about us that Tony brings out and a really difficult system to go against last year. Your defense was so good. Your offense, like we talked about the turnovers, they can't happen again. Like if we're on a seesaw here, is it still, this is a defensive team first or is the offense starting to catch up here? Oh, the offense is definitely catching up. Yeah. There's, there's no doubt about that.
Yeah. You know, there's, there's, there's a lot of even practices right now. And, you know, I can feel myself sometimes at practice out there, Zach, getting after the defense, like, you know, then I watched the tape and they're doing all the same things they were doing. We're just, we're just, we're just better on offense. You know, we're, we're, we're a year more developed. The offensive line's bigger, stronger than we had a huge injury yesterday or starting left tackle Teddy Brask, unfortunately tore his knee, but we know we have guys behind him who can play and our tight ends are, you're stronger. We've got five or six backs that we can put in the game. Our skill outside receiver is, is probably the best rooms I've ever been around.
So it's not just about having one position. I think we're just better across the board, whether it's the guys that played for us last year, just being a year older or the guys we've added in. So I think, I think, you know, you know, I'm always going to have a defensive team. We're always gonna play defense. But at the same time, I think we'll have the chance to score points and, and certainly won't be where we were last year.
I respect that you're in a competition right now for your quarterback and you're right all around the rest of the team as well. But if game one was tomorrow, like, would you feel confident if, if it was okay, we're going to start Dylan Riola and that's his first snap is tomorrow in a college football game? Yeah.
Yeah. I feel I have nothing but confidence in Dylan and to your point, I have nothing but confidence in those other two quarterbacks as well. But yeah, Dylan, you know, to me, you know, this is a, this is, you know, the, the, these climbs, you know, sometimes people think like it goes like this, right?
But, but usually in life, everything kind of goes up, down, up, down. So when you play a freshman quarterback and I've done it twice, I did it with, I did it with PJ Walker at temple. I did it with Charlie Brewer, Baylor, and you have to be willing to ride the highs and the lows. And the last thing you want is quarterbacks playing afraid, you know? And so we were saying in one, in one stretch, Hey, we don't want to turn the ball over, but Hey, we also want to be explosive.
Well, you know, that's actually a metric called toxic differential and we, we, we want to be explosive. And so there's going to be some times where maybe we turn the ball over. We just don't want to turn the ball over in the ways we turned it over last year.
So I think all three of our quarterbacks understand that, but I know Dylan certainly does. And you know, if he goes out there game one, he'll be ready. Coach Matt rule, second year at Nebraska, some big expectations there as they're looking to return to a bowl game this season, coach, we appreciate and good luck coming up in 25 days up against Utah. If you come to a game this year, bring some bagels.
We will definitely bring some New York bagels. There is no doubt about that. Coach. Thanks so much.
Appreciate it. Go big red. There he is. Matt rule, the head coach of the Nebraska cornhuskers.
Lot of great stuff there. And obviously Dylan, Riola, Dylan, Riola, Dylan, Riola. There's just an excitement with Nebraska again. And if Riola could really pop off and be the player that he is, man, those fans are just dying, absolutely dying to be competitive and to have a winner again. And I think they'll start Riola week one. I would be surprised, but you look weak to up against Colorado. If you got a matchup, Dylan, Riola against your door Sanders, that's a heck of a week to match up.

I think that's three straight segments I've come back and said Rockin' and Rollin', but you know that's what we do up until 6 p.m. Eastern 3 p.m. Pacific Time. Matt Ruhl just joined us fun 20 minute chat there. He didn't say it because right you're a football coach you're going to go through the competition you got a youngster with such high expectations kind of does feel like Dylan Riola is going to be the week one starter.
If he's not I don't think he's going to be on the bench for for that long. Like you have a program that has been down and out for a while and they brought back right one of their own in Scott Frost and it was like okay this is going to be the one that returns us to glory and that was just a disaster and they made a very savvy move bringing in Matt Ruhl and last year they were close to getting a ball game and they just couldn't protect the football. Now it's a disaster if they don't get to a ball game and you bring in a quarterback that is a number one type of quarterback and is getting comparisons to Mahomes and how much those Nebraska fans are just starving for some success you kind of know that it's going to be tough to hold off those those fans and you don't just make a move because the fans want it he's got to go earn it and I think when you hear him at the podium and you hear how he speaks and then the way that he's won over his teammates already uh yeah um I think it's like okay this kid just keeps on checking all the boxes and you just got to check all the boxes and through time which is week one August 31st he'll be the starting quarterback of this team I'd be very surprised if he isn't. Anyway Stu has compiled a few questions for me as we gear up for the NFL season and Stu will give me two choices and he will make me select an answer here based off the question that he gives me.
What do you got cooking still? All right number one who will have the better rookie season at the quarterback position Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels? So I did see today that Dan Quinn who announced the like worst kept secret ever that Jayden Daniels is going to start preseason game number one he's their quarterback number one for now you have to be a dummy to not realize that Jayden Daniels is going to start week one we know the Bears have already said Caleb Williams is their guy from the jump I'm going to say that it's Caleb Williams here's why Caleb Williams right now has the better team you look at the offensive side of the ball for the Chicago Bears you have three really good wide receivers DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Roma Dunze, you have a good tight end in Cole Komet and you have a good enough run game. The commanders they have Terry Mclaurin who's a stud you know you got two solid running backs in Austin Eckler who's slowing down a little bit but still very good and you got Brian Robinson and you have Johan Dotson who needs to put it together but I'm a believer in but the Bears just have a lot more around Caleb Williams right now and I do think even though I was a huge fan of the Bears and I'm and I do think even though I was a huge fan of Jayden Daniels in the draft I do give the edge to Caleb Williams on the better player so Caleb Williams better player Caleb Williams on the better offensive side of the ball I believe Caleb Williams is going to have the better rookie season compared to Jayden Daniels. All right at the wide receiver position which rookie wide receiver will have the better rookie season Marvin Harrison Jr or Malik Nabors? Yeah I don't know about you Stu maybe it's just my social media feed it feels like my social media feed these days oh boy do we really want to get into this it is Real Housewives of New Jersey it is politics which is funny because I'm not a very political person and then for some reason I feel like every day it's just highlight after highlight of Malik Nabors have you been seeing a lot of Malik Nabors content because it seems as if there's a lot of palpable buzz in the Giants world in the NFL world about what Malik Nabors can do in the league. Yeah and I think it has to do with where we are I think it's a local thing too not just yeah it's a good point that maybe I don't know Marvin Harrison Jr is doing I don't really follow a lot of Cardinals. The only thing I know is that he doesn't have a deal a licensing deal or he didn't agree to that so Fanatics can't even sell his jersey right now that's right which like imagine being a Cardinals fan you want to go get a jersey all right Kyler Murray this is a big year for him but the guy you just drafted to me is the best wide receiver in the draft and also the best player period in the draft one guy that's a lot to be a Hall of Famer if you made me pick right now it's Marvin Harrison Jr out of the guys that just got drafted so with all that being said Malik Nabors is having a monster camp it seems like I saw I got it or started a fight today up against the Detroit Lions but I look at the quarterbacks all righty it's Daniel Jones or it's Kyler Murray it's Kyler Murray or it's Daniel Jones I have a lot more belief in Kyler Murray where when I look at Daniel Jones I think it's going to be like a roller coaster ride I think Kyler Murray will be more consistent and I do believe that Marvin Harrison Jr is the better player Nabors may be more explosive but I think Marvin Harrison Jr is the better player so better player better quarterback I will take Marvin Harrison Jr in this answer okay which quarterback is more likely to lead their team to a playoff win this season Dak Prescott or Tuatunga Vailoa? That's a great question because when I was quickly going through my playoff predictions the last two weeks on the draft of my playoff predictions I sound like I'm the NCAA here with the draft of the notice of allegations that are going Michigan's way when I have my draft of my playoff teams I did not have Miami in the playoffs and I didn't have Dallas in the playoffs in the playoffs and I didn't have Dallas in the playoffs I think both could be playoff teams but I think they'll be like nine and eight ten and seven and just miss the postseason but if you're saying both Dallas and Miami gets in who has the better chance to win a playoff game man I'm I'm good to go Dak just because the AFC is stronger than the NFC so then in all likelihood the opponent in the AFC will be tougher for Tuatunga Vailoa like last year Tuat got in Tuat had a really good regular season top five statistically and then he had to go to freezing Kansas City and go up against Arrowhead and didn't do well now Dak went up against a guy who was starting in his first full season and he was home and just got obliterated by the Green Bay Packers but I will say it is Dak even though I I just don't think either team going to be a playoff team this year which player is most most likely to win their third MVP this season Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes Patrick Mahomes because Lamar won it last year I don't think Lamar is going to win it in back-to-back seasons and also not that Patrick Mahomes eating any extra motivation but you know the great athletes they find the little things that make them into big things Mahomes not being number one in the top 100 list and also not being the first quarterback off the board it being Lamar Jackson some ways that you can make things a bigger deal than what they actually are so I will say it is Patrick Mahomes the preeminent player in the league which wide receiver is more likely to reach 2,000 yards this season Justin Jefferson or Tyreek Hill another good question so just it looks like Addison's gonna get suspended at some point there's a court date later in the season so I don't know if it's actually going to be this season I'm gonna say it's gonna be Tyreek Hill and the reason why I'm gonna say it's Tyreek Hill it's because of who his quarterback is I know Justin Jefferson was on pace to have a great season last year before the injury and he is the first person you think of the offense with the Minnesota Vikings but even with the Dolphins having Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle and you have two number one wide receivers I'm gonna say it's it's Tyreek Hill because he last year at 18 or 1799 yards I think that Tyreek and the I don't want to say selfishness because that is a negative connotation you know it doesn't sound right to say but I think the individuality of Tyreek Hill will really make him try to go for that 2,000 more than than Justin Jefferson who will be the Steelers starting quarterback in week one Justin Fields or Russell Wilson who I want it to be or who it should be who will it be it's gonna be Russell Wilson but I want it to be Justin Fields right I really do and also just going back to the Justin Jefferson point you know it's gonna be Sam Darnell at first probably and then it's gonna be JJ McCarthy a quarterback change you know that's a little bit difficult I think to get 2,000 yards but I'm gonna go for the last one that you just asked me is it Fields or Russ I want it to be Fields I think it's gonna be Russ which quarterback is more likely to fall short of expectations this season CJ Schoud or Jordan Love can I ask a question what is the expectation for the Packers what is the expectation for the Houston Texans because like the Texans would you agree the Texans it feels like they are the Jaguars of a year ago we're heading into the season off a very successful season that kind of came out of nowhere it's now okay can you take the next step and they were in the divisional round last year so it's can you go get to an AFC championship game and be a dark horse contender would you agree that to get to the Super Bowl I think so so at least get into the divisional round again and then for the Packers they were in the divisional round last year is is it NFC championship game right I think it's getting there at least yeah so both you would say the expectation is to get to their respective conference championship yeah I'm gonna say it's the the the Texans with shroud falling short of the expectations and it's funny I love shroud I think he's a top five quarterback already in the game but it wouldn't surprise me if there's like a little bit for the Texans as a team kind of a sophomore slump where they'll still make the playoffs but I could see the Jaguars actually win that division heck actually the Lions winning the NFC North anyway so the the Packers be a wildcard team too but once again the AFC stronger than the NFC so you could still have a really good season and not be as successful as you probably should be if you were in the other conference all right more likely to win defensive player of the year Micah Parsons or Max Crosby Max Crosby all right do I need a further explanation on that you you don't think Micah could come away with it this year I think it's possible but the thing with Micah Parsons is there's a contract that hasn't been taken care of yet now doesn't get that deal done goes and wins offensive player of the year then the Cowboys really don't have uh any any negotiating power there but with Micah the Malik Hooker comments that seems like a toxic locker room this year with the Cowboys it really does where you have Malik Hooker it's like shut up you're going after Micah Parsons I don't know I'm just not buying into the Cowboys this year not that I'm believing the Raiders but you know Max Crosby is is always going to produce Micah Parsons will as well but I think it's more Max Crosby over Micah Parsons I think he's the third best pass rusher in the league I think it's TJ Walt one Miles Garrett two splitting hairs there and then Max Crosby's in at three and last one the one who is more likely to be fired first Dennis Allen for the second time in his career or Robert Salah that's a fascinating question because Dennis Allen Mickey Loomis basically said he was Belichick you know Belichick failed in other stops and we they think they have like a Belichick in the making and then Robert Salah the only reason he still has a job this year is because Aaron Rogers wanted him back the Jets are going to be better than the Saints I don't think either will get fired in season like it would have to be a complete and utter bleep show but I would say it's more likely Allen gets fired in season first than it is Robert Salah all righty this is that kelp show on the infinity sports network we'll come on back we will update you some of the biggest stories in the world of sports with some audio we call that the news brief but in a fight at practice situation happens like that i stand up for your guys but um i thought it was good competitive practice all day today and and uh you know we made some plays and did some good things there's some things we need to sure up for sure but um good you know good intensity and competitive spirit today so stu you're in a similar spot right like you have a quarterback but it's not the quarterback it's not the guy that you think is the long-term guy like giant fans right now don't believe that daniel jones is the long-term guy and i don't think you believe either carter menshew or aiden o'connell is the long-term guy that's correct how would you feel if you saw aiden o'connell get into a fight at practice as your quarterback that's my quarterback it's my quarterback um honestly fine i don't care yeah would it bother me if it was a franchise like if it was derek carr six years ago i'd be livid rich ganon you know 20 years ago now patrick mahone yeah if i had a quarterback an actual physical quarterback that's good i'd be mad but i don't know it's kind of sad in your lifetime i've had rich ganon was an mvp he was great derek card like two really two really good years and that's i've gotten pretty much and he got hurt in one of them yes and then had to miss the playoff game and then what the other one was the the year where everything hit the fan and they lost to the bangles right yes that that's all i've gotten yeah it's rough yeah it's not great coming up in four years from now at quarterback from the raiders from nebraska dylan riola that'd be great tuba that'd be great tuba holmes is the one definition let's go to jim harbaugh now the coach of the chargers but he was asked to comment on the draft of the notice of allegations that were released over the weekend yeah i do have a comment on that um never lie never cheat never steal i was raised with that lesson i have raised my family on that lesson i have preached that lesson to the teams that i've coached no one's perfect if you stumble you apologize and you make it right today i do not apologize i did not participate was not aware nor complicit in those set allegations so for me it's back to work and attacking with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind so a few things here i understand in the draft the notice of allegations they've been not able to prove that jim harbaugh knew anything that was going on that's really tough for me to believe when interns knew what was going on in that same draft but if you're harbaugh you already won a national championship no one at michigan despises you right everyone should love you and that was your school and you brought him back to crushing ohio state and winning a national championship and now you're off to the nfl with the chargers and the ncaa hasn't proved that you had any involvement in this so why would you expect any other answer than the one that he gave so i know people be irate about that answer you gotta kind of just be realistic and know what you're dealing with uh here is jarod mayo on the brandon iuk rumors with the patriots one thing i did learn from bill is i just i don't talk about players on the other team so just let me go ahead and say that now but i remember as a player you know i appreciated that i appreciated that the only opinions that mattered were inside the walls and so i'm still trying to apply that now uh going forward so not only did jarod mayo say he's not going to talk about players on other teams but how about players on his own team that are rumored to be in a deal potentially going to san francisco like i don't know kendrick born did you talk to him today a practice coach honestly i did talk to him this morning and it was a good conversation and once again i feel like the story is so much further along than anything else i just wanted to make sure we cleared the air and i do believe in being transparent with the players and and really just setting those guys at ease so you acknowledge basically that the rumors are true if you're talking to kendrick born even though you won't talk about brandon iuk but you're talking to kendrick born pulling him aside to at least address the potential uh trade rumors that are going on which by the way i love talking to kendrick born at the super bowl kendrick i will drive myself to boston pick you up drive you to the airport to get you to san francisco and quite frankly i don't think you'll be upset you go from the outhouse to the penthouse the patriots used to be the penthouse but you'd be going back to san francisco that's a win-win and the patriots get a number one wide receiver for for drake may wonderful wonderful wonderful but i don't think the patriots are getting out of them they may offer the most money but could you go back to san francisco and they go up a few million for the 26 they offered you i guess that's a possibility now the stealers are out now they're back in seems like that could be something more likely than new england and you have the cleveland browns out there as well all better spots than the patriots but sometimes players don't care if they're in a winning situation or not that's my hope come on elliott wolf give him an offer he can't refuse let's go to lamar jackson he sat down with cbs's very own jonathan jones and lamar jackson discussed losing weight after 2022 you slimmed down two years ago you you i was fat to me i felt like i was fat i just saw a video from two years ago uh all the browns and i looked it out of shape did you feel slower do you did you think that you look slower oh my eyes might be deceiving me but i believe i looked a little slower to me but not now why did you decide to slim down was it was it simply for the speed element oh just so i can move around um without getting fatigued that's all i don't know if i was getting fatigued last year uh probably if i get a first down but i don't like getting caught if i do this out to run so yeah it's part of it you know we get a little slower as we age you don't think it has anything to do not at all no i'm only 27 i'm still young definitely don't have anything to do with age stu have you ever looked at lamar jackson and said man he's slowing down or he looks fat no to neither of those definitely not yeah and i saw him playing college so like in person so i i've never noticed that uh let's go to andy reid on having john gruden at chief's camp he loves football and he and i go way back 30 years so we've known each other a long time so it's good to get him up here he's always got good input on things very smart very good football great football coach so enjoy having him around great energy i would have called a great football coach he had a great moment and won a super bowl he's very good for the raiders the first time then won a super bowl with the tampa bay buccaneers and then after winning that super bowl he's been one of the more overrated football coaches but reid and gruden had this long-standing relationship so regardless of a lawsuit that's going on right now and all that it doesn't matter because john gruden is addicted to football like if i was 60 years old made all that money and basically you know you're not gonna be a head coach you get in the nfl i wouldn't be gonna be strolling into chief's training camp i'd be sitting on a beach somewhere with my toes in the sand and a corona beer in hand and gruden used to endorse corona the reason i know that i used to be endorsed by corona not the virus i'm talking about the beer and when i was endorsed by corona beer actually we used to do remotes in one of my first radio job and they sent me a enormous bottlehead of john gruden and it came with a bottle opener on the bob bobblehead to open up your corona beer and gruden was in like shorts t-shirt like a polo corona shirt and then uh sandals as well i had that uh bobblehead still in my in my folks house it's a collectible that's great yeah and so it's pretty good bobblehead i was gonna sell it and then this whole scandal and then the value went down i was like mother bleeper i was not happy all righty that's a news brief it is the sack yelp show on the infinity sports network wiggy germane wiggins it's gonna stop by 25 minutes from now is he getting his hopes up on the patriots landing one brand in iuk we will find out 25 minutes from now but first when we come on back i can't believe i'm gonna say this but something i was vehemently against and i mean vehemently against i'm now warming up to it because i have no choice i will tell you what that is when we return in five minutes right here on the sack yelp show on the infinity sports network look around what do you see cars lots of them and
