I want big credit. So I guess I'm becoming a UFC guy. I like UFC.
I'm a casual fan of the UFC. Channing Crowder is also a good friend in the radio media business. And I go on their show once a week. We text a bunch.
We've had some good laughs now for at least a decade. And I first met Channing Crowder when I was a senior in high school. And he was just getting started in the radio business when he was working for WQAM with Sid Rosenberg. So Channing texted me because he heard I was at the UFC over the weekend. And he goes, I'm interviewing Michael Chandler tonight. Don't know much about MMA.
You got anything good for him to ask? And I go, you got to find out if this fight's going to be happening at the end of the month. So for people that don't know what we're talking about, they were supposed to have a press conference in Dublin, Ireland. And it was going to be McGregor, Chandler and Dana White as Chandler's on his way to the airport. I guess UFC officials told him, don't come.
The press conference is off. We have heard nothing from the UFC yet as to why that press conference was canceled. Conor McGregor said there was things that were out of his control as why it got canceled. And there's a lot of speculation in the MMA world that this fight is not going to happen. Now Ariel Helwani, who is like the Schefter of MMA, except Dana White and Ariel Helwani don't see eye to eye.
So it'd be like if Roger Goodell banned Schefter from going to things and wouldn't credential him. That's kind of like the Ariel Helwani Dana White relationship, which I don't know why. And I do like Dana White. I have nothing against Ariel Helwani.
I find this content to be really good. And he's always seemed to be a nice guy. The two or three times that I've ever talked to him, but clearly there's a lot of history between those two. But Ariel Helwani, whose opinion I trust, he said, there's optimism now that this fight's actually going to happen at the end of the month, by the way. So I'll be curious of Channing and I don't know, I'm assuming Fred Taylor, Ryan Clark go to the interview, how much they're going to get into.
Cause I responded by, you have to find out if this fight against McGregor at the end of the month is actually happening and why the heck the press conference was canceled. And congratulations, by the way, to Ryan Clark and Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor with their success at the pivot. They just got picked up by Michael Rubin and fanatics and all that stuff. So that's very big for their brand. June 29th is a big day, by the way, gentlemen, you know, the significance of June 29th, just wondering Carlos not off the top of my head. Oh, this is my concern. Santa what's the significance of June 29th?
It's the day before the last day of June. Oh, I know it. I remember.
What is it? Is it kickball? Thank you.
Here's my concern. So I am planning an infinity sports network, kickball team. We are participating in Dion Dawkins, charity football, a charity kickball event.
And so far, let me pull up my documents here. We got to get to 12 people. But so far, it's yours truly. Maggie Gray, David Mayernik, Andrew Perloff, E.J., Elijah Stewart, Carlos Ortiz, Michael Samter, Keith McPherson. And then my buddy Mike is going to be participating.
Who knows, Dion, because we all went to college together. So that's what eight people right now. Nine. How many? Nine people.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Now, Keith told me he may have to bail. So he told me that from the start. He's like, I'm a maybe. And then he'll eventually give me an answer. But Samter and Carlos, you're the two guys on the list that I'm a little apprehensive about if you're actually going to show up.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. So you're full go fully committed. Yeah, I am no fraud. I'll tell you flat out. I'm going to if I'm going to go or not and I'm going. Now, it wouldn't surprise me.
My boss, David Mayard, it goes, hey, pal, got caught up in doing something. I can't make it. And I'll be very annoyed at David. But, Samter, you're kind of one of those guys that wouldn't surprise me if you bail as well.
And I've never been legitimately mad at Samter off the air. But, Samter, if we get like, oh, your car broke down and you can't make it to the tournament. I don't know.
I don't know if I could get past this. So you definitely be there on June twenty nine outside of health issues, car issues or otherwise. Have I ever, under your knowledge, bailed on anything to do with you or anyone else at this network? No, I was a little bit late in paying off a bet to you, but I paid it off. Yes, you did. All right. So I have never bailed. So you're in. I don't back out barring an unforeseen emergency that I can't control.
And at the end of the day, it's not my fault that I just broke down and my transmission fell out and all this happened within like a three day period of me moving to a new house. Like I fully expect Keith McPherson to bail. Fully expect Keith McPherson to bail. But I know Maggie won't.
I know Perloff won't. Is bunting allowed in this league? Because I'll be a great bunter and kickball.
Oh, you're just lucky you're you're American, according to your standards. Well, especially Dion is pitching. You know, I can kind of bunted off to the third baseline. I know Dion is fleet of foot for his size, but buddy Dion could chase you down in a second. In an absolute second, that dude is athletic and he is quick. I'm going to test the theory. I'm going to test the theory to see how athletic and quick Dion Dawkins is. Dion can give you a three second head start to first base and he will catch you off one step. See, I believe that he has a better top speed than me, but I feel like quick, you know, kind of like back and forth, like, you know, from a pitch running quick to to pick up a bunt. You know, it's a lot of it's a lot of man.
He's a big boy. There's only so much time speed that you're what? What's your 40?
I don't know. If you had to take what do you think you can run the 40 yard dash? Let's go with five nine six one.
So I six won something like that. What's your height? Five, two and a half. What's your weight?
150. Dion Dawkins is six foot five, 320 pounds. When he was at the NFL Combine, he ran a 511 40 yard dash. Five point one one 40 yard dash. How is that possible? What do you mean?
Five oh five point one one. Yes. Yes. That makes sense.
Mm hmm. Yeah. That was his 40 yard. No, no, he's that is so impressive that safety didn't even know how to respond to it.
No, no, no. I was doing the math in my head. No, I don't believe that his top speed is higher than mine for sure. But side to side quick motion, I'm quicker than he would be. No, you're not.
Because I'm small, lower center of gravity. Just just like side to side quick bursts. No, he's just too big of a man to drop back and go side to side and block lineman. He pulls as a tackle.
He has caught touchdowns, has got past the secondary to score touchdowns in the NFL. All right, so what is up with you? Gee, the producers, you, Shep, who actually Shep's gonna get mad at me if I referred him as a producer anymore. So sorry, Shep. But when you were, you said stupid things.
How many? Shep thinks he can coach the Lakers and you have what? More side to side quickness? I'm just saying small people are quicker typically than large people.
Now he is a freak of nature athlete because he's a superstar NFL all pro future Hall of Famer. So he might be an exception to this rule, but typically small people with lower centers of gravity, they have less body and less physical surface area to move around. So we're better in short spaces.
Okay, I'm just saying. So who else do we need to invite to round out this kickball team? Because if we don't end up getting to 12, you think Jim Rome's gonna fly from California for us?
Hey, I would love to have Rome join us. I would love to have D-Ben join us, who is athletic. You know, I'm disappointed. I didn't hear back from D-Cell.
We'll check with D-Cell tomorrow. I'm trying to think who else. Stu? Stu hasn't committed? Stu told me he cannot. That's unacceptable. Yeah, it's his mother's birthday on, well, it's his mother's birthday on June 29th, so he cannot make it. I guess they have some family of that.
Fine, mother's birthday is okay. Who else? You want to go show him Marash? Marash is surprisingly athletic. I don't know if Marash is going to make the drive to New Jersey. Jersey might be a deal breaker.
In Raleigh. How about Tiki and BT? They're both Jersey guys.
They're both Jersey guys. Talk to your guy Tiki, your best friend, Tiki Barber. Listen, Tiki I'm sure will be fine at kickball. BT would be crushing balls over her fence. You know, uh, I just had someone text me. Who's that? I'm not going to say who this person was that texted me. They said they're listening to the show right now and I appreciate them listening.
She tried to get messy for the kickball game. That was a suggestion I just got. All right, let's do it. I'll fly down to Miami and recruit. Now you know who we're going to reach out to? She works in promotions. Jess Clark.
I did not know this person also texted me that Jess Clark played soccer in college. Let's get it. Let's make it happen right now. Let's get, let's get Jess Clark, who's great at promotions. Suck up to the promotions people here.
It's a good way to get some free stuff. So anyway, I'm looking forward to this, uh, to this kickball tournament now. Uh, this was brought up on another show, so I have to address it and then we'll get to the five biggest NBA storylines for this upcoming NBA finals. This is on the Anthony Gargano show. Anthony Gargano, the cuz, does a great job. Philly legend. He had Sean Patton on. Sean Patton is basically the GM of Nebraska football, the Cornhuskers. And in this conversation on the future of college football with Anthony Gargano, Sean Patton brought up Zach Gelb's potential athletic career.
Listen up. We're going to be going to English lit class looking for big kids. Uh, well, you know, you know, our, our mutual friend Zach Gelb, I tried to get him to walk on, uh, when we were at temple, he came to a morning workout and I thought he was a walk on. I was like, yeah, what's up big man? And he's, you know, pencil and paper. He's, he's, you know, he's a, he's a reporter. You know what I mean?
But yeah, you're always looking for big bodies. That's for sure. You know, that was a moment when I heard that yesterday.
I was alerted to that sound. It's true story. By the way, Matt rule, Sean, Patton, and Chris Weiser had, they begged me to walk on to the football team when I was covering the football team. The reason why they begged me is because a lot of guys were getting hurt. It was in the off season. They were down on bodies. They needed some people to just be big and stand in place and practice and probably just get abused on a football field.
But they begged me. And when I heard that audio yesterday, all of these years later, more than a decade later, I had a moment where I'm like, what would have happened if I would have said yes. And I think I would have gone on to have an illustrious college football career.
And I think quite frankly, I'm not in this chair today. I think I'm the left guard for the Buffalo bills next to my dear friend, Deon Dawkins. And you guys are entering to play in my kickball tournament. That's what I think would have happened. I think I would have gone on to be the left guard for the Buffalo bills. So you're going guard, not center, not tackle. You're going guard.
I mean, you'd have to have it. Listen, you're a big fella, but 80 pounds, a hundred pounds. What you got now? I played left tackle in high school and I also played defensive tackle in high school. I think I would have been transitioned into a left guard.
I do. I would have been like, I would have been like Jerry Kramer or Zach Martin. No, Jerry Kramer.
All right. I'm a Jerry Kramer guy. I'm one of my favorite football players of all time, even though I was not around to see him play, but I love Jerry Kramer.
And the fact that they made him wait so many years to get in the hall of fame was a travesty. I'm more of a Cosmo Kramer kind of guy. Anyway, it is the Zach Gelb show on the infinity sports network. So here are the five biggest storylines going into the NBA finals.
Number five, I think I'm going to be the first radio host in the country to bring up this opinion. If Al Horford wins this NBA championship, I think Al Horford will cement a spot in the basketball hall of fame. Remember, I just said the basketball hall of fame. It's not the NBA hall of fame. It takes everything into account that he's done in his basketball career. Remember, where Al Horford played college ball at.
It was at Florida with Billy Donovan as the coach. They've won two championships back to back 06, 07. He has gone on to be a five time NBA all star. And the only thing missing is an NBA championship in his career. Al Horford personally, I would not put him in the hall of fame, but the standard for the hall of fame in the NBA is not for always great players. I think Al Horford has a case and would get into the hall of fame winning this championship. It would take time, but when you have three championships, two in college and one in the pros, and you've also been a five time all star and Al's been a good but not great player, I believe Al Horford will end up becoming a hall of famer with the championship. What do you guys think about that? Because any other sport, if Al Horford was a football player, one championship, five all star appearances, we wouldn't be saying hall of famer.
If this was major league baseball, we wouldn't be saying it. But in basketball, because it takes the entire career into effect, I think with college and then also the pros and you win three championships and you've been good in the pros, I do believe this guy would be a hall of famer if he wins a championship. What do you guys think about that? I mean, the college part does add a little bit of a wrinkle, but I feel like he's probably one of those guys.
Cause like there's so many other deserving guys who are probably going to get in. Like he's one of those guys who like when we're old and gray, I'm half gray. I hate to break it to you. I am gray now. Yeah, me too. I mean the beard. I'm not old, I am gray.
You know, honestly, I don't see a lot on the sides. I am gray. Your dad's gray. Yeah. So he doesn't have a lot of hair. Yeah, that's true.
He's also 65. Yeah, no, but I mean, he's been gray as long as I've known him and I've been here for a bit. But I mean, I can see a little bit of salt and pepper in with, I'll tell you this, the ladies love it.
A little salt and pepper, a little bit of it's distinguished. I love it. I love a little gray in my beard, but I think when we're like old and gray, like 20, 30 years from now gets it.
Three months for me. Really? Al Horford will get in one of those like veterans committee type of things. I don't think he's getting in when, when you have some of the big names in the sport getting in, I don't see Al Horford making it, but I can see him like, you know, years from now, we will look back only for this sport. He will make it any other sport.
He wouldn't make it. No agreed. But I think, I think it's going to take a while. The next storyline.
I agree with you on that. The health of Chris Stops Porzingis. He's expected to play in game one tomorrow evening, but also everyone talks about Kyrie against Boston. How about Chris Stops up against Dallas? This is Chandler Parsons because remember Chris Stops and Luca were teammates for a bit. He said that Luca and Chris Stops had beef. This is running back on FanDuel TV.
Don't get twisted. They do not like Porzingis in Dallas. Luca did not like playing with them. There is an actual beef there where they're, it's going to be every time you touch the ball, he's getting booed. And there's a real beef there. Why?
Is that a scoop? No, I think that's, I think that's no, I think it's no, it didn't work out in Dallas when for whatever reason, those fans they're, they're, they're, they're, they're like, if they, if you're hurt, if you're not playing, if you're, if you're not doing what you were doing years before you got to the Mavs, they don't like it. I guarantee you Porzingis gets booed every time he touches the ball.
I don't know if he's going to get booed every time he touches the ball. I don't know if there's animosity between the fan base and Chris Stops, Porzingis, but that's not the first time I've heard about the icy relationship of Chris Stops and Luca when they were together. And there have been stories told on the record. Chris Stops even said that early on there was tension between Chris Stops and Luca. He wasn't there for that long. And I think it was when Carlisle was the coach. It may have been Chris Stops who, who said to Carlisle, can you tell Luca to stop complaining? And then Carlisle goes, Hey Luca, stop complaining something along the lines there. So there's history between the two.
So this is not foreign. The fact that those two were not best of friends. Here is Luca though on Chandler Parson's comments about his beef with KP.
You see, that's why I don't watch a lot of that. Cause people don't know. I told the Chandler Parson maybe twice in my life. So I don't know how he would know that. But me and KP have a good relationship. I don't know what people would say otherwise.
That would be cause you guys didn't really have a good relationship when you play together. Storyline number three, if the Mavs win the title, will Luca Doncic be referred to as the best player in the league right now? I think he's a top five. He gets a championship because we've been in that mode, right? Giannis wins a championship. Boom. Best player in the league. Nicole Jokic wins a championship.
Boom. Consider the best player in the league. Here's the difference of Luca. I think he then needs to win an MVP. Giannis had two MVPs before his first championship.
Nicole Jokic had two MVPs before his first championship, but Luca would, without a doubt, be top three player in the league if he wins his championship. Two, is this the year that Tatum and Brown get over the hump and put to bed this nonsense that they can't win together? And then number one, I think the biggest storyline entering these NBA Finals is Kyrie going back to Boston. And even though we try to downplay it, but the animosity between the Celtics and Kyrie Irving. What's the biggest storyline of the NBA Finals?
8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27. Micah Parsons makes it clear he wants to play his entire career with the Cowboys, but he mentioned one team that he would want to go to if Dallas and him parted ways. The team he mentioned, he is absolutely trolling one of their star players.
I'll tell you who that team is when we come on back. OK, picture this. It's Friday afternoon when a thought hits you. Minimum $10 per order, additional term supply. I'm just reading Dustin Poirier, who lost to Islam in UFC 302 this past weekend. I know he talked about how he felt something in his leg. He ended up breaking his nose, his rib, and then also tore an ACL. And he still went through the fight until he tapped out.
That's crazy. And then also, I saw in hockey, because whenever these teams lose in hockey, you get all these other injuries. And it's always wild what the hockey players do go through. But how about Dustin Poirier had a broken nose, a rib, and tore his ACL in his big fight at the Prudential Center.
It is the Zach Gelb show on the Infinity Sports Network. So I was reading a tweet today from Clarence Hill Jr., who covers the Dallas Cowboys. And he said, when talking about the Micah Parsons contract, Micah Parsons is no problem being patient and waiting for his contract.
The longer he waits, the higher the market will rise. He fully expects to be the highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Then in another tweet, Micah Parsons has no interest in playing anywhere but with the Cowboys. He said it's important for his legacy and doesn't want to bounce around. But if he hypothetically did go home later in his career, it would be to join the Pittsburgh Steelers, not the Philadelphia Eagles, partly because of Mike Tomlin. Now hold on.
Hold up, wait a minute. Micah Parsons was on this show and tried to eviscerate TJ Watt. TJ Watt right now is the face of the Pittsburgh Steelers. It would be great, just from a talent standpoint, if we got to see Micah Parsons and TJ Watt on the same team. But Micah Parsons, whether he, well, we know he doesn't want to admit it, but it's clear that Micah Parsons hates TJ Watt, hates him. When you get on our show and Micah Parsons has the audacity to say that TJ Watt isn't a top five pure pass rusher in the league, when he's led the league in sacks through the last four years, there has to be some animosity there.
So I don't think that's even possible. And Micah we know is very media savvy. I think he's trolling TJ Watt there.
I really do. Like the team that I want to go to, if it doesn't work out with the Cowboys, are the Pittsburgh Steelers. You would have to get TJ Watt's blessing. And is TJ Watt going to be all jacked up about playing alongside Micah Parsons? Like, Santer, we'll run back in just a second when Micah Parsons said to us at the Super Bowl, but you were there. It was the most shocked I've ever been doing this show. I was more shocked what Micah Parsons said on this show than the time Aaron Donald to that PR rep. It wasn't even Donald's fault, but Aaron Donald, the PR rep just appeared on the screen and was like, oh, you got to ask about Dr. Teals, the Deebo Samuel thing. And I've heard things about Deebo kind of being a jerk, so I wasn't surprised he was short and then his feelings got hurt and they hung up the phone on us. But that had to be the most shocked I've ever was when Micah came on and he was like, TJ Watt is in a top five. I would usually rant and rave if a caller said that. I just didn't know how to even respond to Micah outside of just saying, like, it just seems like you hate him.
Do you hate TJ? I think that we'll play it back in a second. I'm pretty sure I said something along the lines of that. Like, I was just dumbfounded. The only I was only shocked one more time than that.
There was two other moments. It was obviously the night we were sitting here and Aaron Rodgers had the Achilles injury three, four, three, four plays into his career at the Jets. And then when I was on the air for the DeMar Hamlin situation, like I was just shocked, didn't know how to react to it. But that Micah Parsons thing, which one doesn't belong, but the Micah Parsons thing, it was just so shocking that a guy who's a great pass rusher in the NFL could say that basically TJ Watt is in a top five pure pass rusher when he just led the league in sacks. So do you think he's when you say he's trolling TJ Watt, do you think he's trolling him in the sense of I will replace TJ Watt in Pittsburgh because I'm that good? Or do you think he's saying I will team up with TJ Watt and we will form a dominant? No, I think he's obsessed with just mentioning TJ Watt.
And I think in his mind and he could sell like, oh, I'd be going home, all that stuff, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And the respect they have for Mike Tomlin. But I just think he is like obsessed with having to mention the Steelers and TJ Watt. This has been an entire offseason beef.
It started with us at the Super Bowl and it has just continued and continued and continued and continued with him taking shots at the Steelers and TJ Watt. So I do think that this was calculated by Micah Parsons. Now if you think about potential, forget about them replacing TJ. Well, they wouldn't.
No, of course not. TJ Watt's better than Micah Parsons. But let's say you had Parsons on one side, TJ Watt on the other. It'd be great.
You know what it'd be like? Be like A-Rod and Jeter. Yeah. So I'm thinking of like the best duos that we've seen on the defensive side in football. Like the Joey Bosa, Kelvin Ingram was really good for a couple of years. Melvin Ingram. Melvin Ingram. Is it Kelvin Ingram? Who's Kelvin Ingram? I don't know. I don't know how your brain works.
It doesn't make any sense. Melvin Ingram. Secondary wise, I know that everyone's going to say Richard Sherman. How do you bring up Richard Sherman?
That's a good point. Having Cam Chancellor and then who was the other safety? Earl Thomas. Earl Thomas was a great one-two punch. Or you want to talk about maybe Ed Reed and Ray Lewis? Yeah, Ed Reed and Ray Lewis.
Absolutely. Pepper Johnson, LT. Pepper Johnson. Pepper Johnson is a fascinating interview. I know Pepper a little bit. When you get that, when that guy starts talking, man, he says some things.
He definitely says some things. So anywho, let's replay Micah Parsons dissing TJ Watt on this show back on February 9th in 2024. I'm not a sore loser. You know, I thought it should went to Miles if not me.
And I said that publicly, you know, and it's just simple as that. Miles, Miles, you look at the Titans game alone and no offense, but TJ played the Titans. Did you see two Titans following TJ Watt? Did you see like, they're following him all across the line? Like people could say whatever they want, but at the end of the day, the film does not lie. Like his presence is way more dominant than TJ Watt.
And that's just the reality of it. So if you had to rank five guys in the NFL in terms of who gets to the quarterback, the best, you know, and what you guys do, how would you kind of rank them then one through five? I think I'm probably the best pure speed pass rusher, but if you're going off defensive ends like, or like run and everything, you can label that, but you're talking about pure pass rusher.
I would say, if you look at my win rate and my, I was the best one this year, so it would be me and I would say Miles and I would say Max and I would say Nick Bosa. And then I would say, uh, not TJ. I mean, look at the stats, like the stats don't lie. He was not tough.
I think he might've been fit for Alex Highsmith. I think he had a better pass rusher and a more double team rate than TJ Watt. If you really want to be statistically like it, like this isn't my stuff. Like I'm not just pulling this out of my head.
Like look at the stats. So the only thing I'm just going to say about this is I just know when you say something like this, what the reaction is going to be. People are going to think that you and TJ Watt have some beef and stuff like that. When you get the Cowboys and the Steelers fan base is all intertwined. There's no beef with you and TJ.
Well, there's no beef at all. I was just, I, one thing I hate about the NFL community and NBA community, we just hate when someone else wins. Like we, like when I lost to TJ, I did not go on and say, I got snug. I just said, I'm going to go to work when I lost to Nick Bosa the year after that, I did not say I got snug. I just said I'm going to work. You know, when like the biggest mistake in people is that the saying that someone is not deserving. How, who are you to say someone's not deserving of an award of that magnitude? It's amazing. I'm just listening back to it.
I'm still stunned by the whole thing and how that did go on down. But now Micah Parsons saying, if I ever left the Cowboys, I'd want to go to the Pittsburgh Steelers. You know, his other good duo recently in the last 10, 15 years, Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. And you can, and even if you take math this out at when the guy was healthy, Bob Sanders and Dwight Freeney, a Bob Sanders, when he was healthy, he was, he was absolutely sensational. And recent guys, you know, I'm not going back like 34 years and things like that. Troy Polamalu and James Harrison too. That was another. Don't ever say James Harrison's name to me, please.
Why? Oh, because you lived in Arizona. I actually know where I saw you, Santa, before I worked with you. You were on the sideline getting the oxygen mask when he took the a hundred yard plus reception back to the house. I was trying to push Larry Fitzgerald to tackle his ass out of bounds. Just get him out of bounds, get him out of bounds. That's one of the great plays in Superbowl history.
That play, you think about the Cardinals. They were about to go in for a touchdown to end the half. He picks it off, which stops the touchdown, brings it back.
And the time ran out while he was running. If he doesn't get into the end zone, then it doesn't matter. It's just, it's just a pick to stop a touchdown that swung 14 points that changed the entire game. That was the worst play in the history. You really are a sports, excuse me, an NFL whore. You really are a Cardinals fan, a jet fan, a chief fan. You were though. I was. Yes.
That's what I'm saying. You, you sleep around with these NFL teams. You really do. You had a romance with the chiefs. That's your romance. Now you had a romance with the jets. You had a romance with the Cardinals. Listen, I don't, I don't sleep around. I date, I marry, and then I get divorced over time.
Yeah. Let me tell you, I'm not sleeping around with invested in some prenups. I worked for the Cardinals, right? That was, that was a nice marriage. There was a nice long relationship. I was in a 30 year marriage with the, can I just ask you a question?
Yeah. God forbid my homes ACL tear week one, just God forbid. And you need to then go adopt the team for the rest of the season. Like let's say you're out on Kansas city. Who's the team that knows the Cardinals.
I have an AFC. You can't, you can't go back to your ex. I'm not, I'm going to be a good friend. I'm not allowing you to go back to the Cardinals. I'm not allowed to go back to the jets. A new team.
Who would be the next thing that you'd be whoring off of? Lions. A hundred percent lions. I mean, I have to pick a team that I like a team that's like fun to written the lions or maybe the Texans. I love the Ravens.
I love Lamar, but I think the lions. Okay. And this is Zach Yelp show on the infinity sports network. We will take a time out.
It's the fancy gets an extension. You see the most underappreciated coach in the NFL for the, here we go. Brown is our update time.
Mandy Rodriguez. Hey, this is Howie and this is Nick and you're listening to the Zach Yelp show. And guess what? Zach is back. He's live. He's nationwide.
This is the Zach show on the infinity sports network. So Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry both received contract extensions. So congratulations to them.
Here's what I'll say. This is a major year for Deshaun Watson. Like I didn't need the extensions to Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry to tell me that, but look at what the Browns did last year without Deshaun Watson, they made the playoffs and Joe Flacco got them to the playoffs and Kevin Stefanski's coaching got them to the playoffs.
And let me remind you, they also didn't have Nick Chubb cause he got hurt too. So you look at this Browns team. I don't want to hear one gripe for this upcoming season from Browns fans saying this is why we have to fire Kevin Stefanski. Cause if Deshaun Watson does not play well this year, he's going to try to blame Kevin Stefanski and that should not be allowed.
Cause think about it. How many coaches have the Browns gone through since the, the, you know, since like 2004, if you want to say, cause basically when you go through it, let's start with Romeo Cornell. He was there from 2005 to 2008 and you had Eric Mangini who was there. I'm talking guys that, you know, full-time coaches, not just interim 2009 to 2010, Pat Shurmur, 2011 to 2012, Rob Chisinski was there in just 2013. Mike Peddon was there 2014 to 2015, Hugh Jackson, 2016 to 2018, Freddie kitchens, 2019.
Think about that. And I had Greg Williams as the interim. You had, you know, full-time coaches. So forget Williams just since 2005, Romeo, Mangini, Shurmur, Rob, Peddon, Jackson, Freddie kitchens.
That's seven. And then Stefanski's eight. Kevin Stefanski has won two coach of the year awards and has taken to the Browns, the playoffs twice.
Kevin Stefanski is not the problem. This is on Deshaun Watson this year and Deshaun Watson. I don't think he'll be great ever again. Just gotta be good. I know his contract says he needs to be great and the picks you gave up for him would suggest you need great play for him, but he just, he just has to be serviceable this year. He can't be the reason why this team doesn't get there. And it's been since that 2020 season, that was the last time we saw elite caliber play from Deshaun Watson.
And you know what? I think Kevin Stefanski is the most underappreciated coach in the league. I really do. This is a guy who has been able to hold a job in Cleveland.
That doesn't happen. I just ran through all the coaches since 2005 and he's won the coach of the year twice. This dude, he feels like he's a top 10 coach in the league. Is there a coach in the NFL right now that's more underappreciated than Kevin Stefanski? I can't think of one.
I really can't. There's not a coach to me that jumps off the page. McDermott?
Nope. Mike McDaniel? He gets love. Robert Salah? Not deserving of it. Jerod Mayo?
Year one. Harbaugh with the Ravens? He gets a ton of credit. Mike Tomlin? Pittsburgh fans are getting tired of him, but we all acknowledge Tomlin's a really damn good coach.
He hasn't won a playoff game since 2016. Is Zach Taylor underappreciated? That's a name. That's the last name that stood out.
Yeah. Zach Taylor's underappreciated. Joe Burrow was a shell of a man for the first few weeks of the year. Then he went out for the year and had Jake Browning still finish 9-8. Took a team to the Super Bowl. And that's a guy that, because he has a great quarterback, he's not going to get the credit.
D'Amico Ryans gets a ton of credit. Is Doug Peterson underappreciated? He won a Super Bowl. Yeah, he won a Super Bowl, but then he got fired.
Yeah, but you know what? He's been in Jacksonville. He helped turn around the Urban Meyer mess, but when you're going against someone that was that bad at Urban Meyer, it's going to make you look good. I think Doug Peterson is underappreciated.
Well, no, no, no, no, no. He had one good year, one bad year. He's only been there for two years.
Sure. But I mean, last year. He underperformed last year. They were 9-8. And even the year before that, I don't know if they... 9-8 for Jacksonville is not the end of the world.
No, no, no, no. But I mean, they should have, I mean, they were 8-3 and they ended up losing six of their, or five of their last six. They were dreadful down this road.
Yeah. Indianapolis, Stikin's been there for a year. He had a good year. I'm not, you know, Tennessee has a rookie coach, Callahan. Reed gets a ton of credit.
Antonio Pierce just got there. Sean Payton, I think is overrated. Jim Harbaugh, a ton of credit. Is McCarthy under a good regular season coach? I think he's exceeded what people thought he was going to do in Dallas. I think he's done a lot more in Dallas than people thought he was going to do. And I think he's underappreciated in a lot of ways, but I also think that he's deserving of not being appreciated because he's fallen flat a lot.
Deball, no. Sirianni deserved to get crushed last year. Dan Quinn just got to the commanders. Dan Campbell gets enough praise. What about Lafleur? Lafleur, I think is a little bit underappreciated. That guy last year, first year with that Aaron Rodgers, they're in the playoffs.
I'll give it to Matt Lafleur. Kevin O'Connell, one good year, then lost a quarterback last year. You got, you got to give him credit, but still early in his career, only two years as a NFL head coach.
Eber Flus, let's see what he does this year with actual expectations. Todd Bowles. You know, I think Todd Bowles, he was a disaster in New York, won a Super Bowl at Tampa Bay. And since then they made the playoffs first year without Tom Brady. I would say Todd Bowles a little bit underappreciated.
A little bit. I mean, he was, I would say he was a disaster with the Jets, but he certainly was not great. Yeah, he was bad.
Outside of one season, he was very bad. Dennis Allen, no. You know, Raheem Morris just got there in Atlanta. Canales just got there in Carolina. Shanahan, no, he gets enough love. McVeigh gets enough love.
McDonald just got there in Seattle and then Arizona. Gannon had one year. He was impressive in that one year.
I know they had a bad record, but. The five most underappreciated coaches in the league. Stefanski's in that conversation. Zach Taylor's in that conversation. I would still say Doug Peterson is in that conversation. McCarty's in the conversation, and Matt LaFleur and Todd Bowles. Yeah, I would probably take McCarthy out because of the playoff shortcomings and put Todd Bowles in.
That's what I would do. I think O'Connell is one of those guys that I think is, I think he's a fantastic coach. But it's early, I just, I see a lot. I think he's a good coach. Potential to be a fantastic coach.
What I've seen so far really impresses me. He has a little Shanahan to him. Now I think Shanahan is a little overrated.
Which part of Shanahan? The brilliant or the kind of, you know, jerk part of him? You think Kyle Shanahan's a jerk? He comes off as just being this arrogant, cocky guy who thinks he knows more than everybody.
Maybe he does, but he comes off like that. I just think he doesn't get the job done in the Super Bowl. So I think he's a very good coach, but everyone like rushes to say he's the next coming of Vince Lombardi and the second coming of Vince Lombardi. And I'm not ready to go there with Kyle Shanahan.
