She is a rock star in the world of politics today, but she's so busy, I've had a hard time getting her. Our guest today is Sandy Smith, and Sandy Smith recently won the Republican primary in the First Congressional District of North Carolina, which is an open seat. So it's a great opportunity as conservatives are trying to take back the House of Representatives and Sandy's campaign has a huge amount of momentum right now, and she's part of the America First movement.

Sandy Smith, welcome to Christian Perspective. Thank you so much for having me. Yes, we've tried for a while to get this scheduled. Our schedule's just been crazy, but I am so happy that we are able to get together today. Well, thanks, Sandy. And for listeners, I want to tell you to be able to have some grace with me today. I'm fighting a summer cold.

It seems like I get one every summer and it hit me hard this week, so I'm kind of losing my voice. And so hopefully, Sandy, if you're like every other politician, I know you're not in many ways, but I know you won't have any trouble talking, so you could talk a lot today as we're talking about your candidacy. But I wanted to have you on because I've known you now, I don't know what, maybe three or four years now, and just been impressed with all that you're doing and the stand that you've taken on so many issues. We share a lot of the same beliefs and convictions on important issues and we love our country and we love our military and our right to keep and bear arms.

There are so many things that you and I agree about. And I wanted our audience to know you a little bit because today congressional races are not just local anymore. I mean, when you're serving in the United States Congress, you were representing really the, not just your district, but the whole United States, the way that our system is today. And that's why people all across the country need to know about candidates like you that are running for office, what they stand for, and they need to be praying for you, help you financially and tell their friends if they have friends in your district to vote for you. So Sandy, before we get into all the politics of it, let our audience know a little bit about you. I've had the privilege of meeting your husband and your daughter that was in the Marines and may still be. Tell us a little bit about who Sandy Smith is just on a personal level. And then we'll talk about politics in a minute.

Well, sure. Well, first off, I am a proud Christian American. I am a business owner, a military mom. And like you said, my daughter actually served in the United States Marines and she's now works in the, for the airlines and is actually trained to get her pilot license. My youngest is a senior in college and he goes to one of the oldest military universities in the country.

So we are a very proud military country. My husband and I, we have several farms. We have 137 acre farm that we have row crops on, as well as we raise a rare species of pig from New Zealand on our smaller 10 acre farm.

So we do that. I'm also a real estate investor and a business executive. I've been a CFO.

So Sandy, I'm going to interrupt you there. I want to hear more about your investment in your business and what you've done, but you mentioned that you guys raise pigs and all the time I've known you, I don't think I realized that you raise a special breed of pigs. And for my listeners know that I'm a short fat guy that likes barbecue. Can you tell us a little bit about your pig farming venture?

Oh, absolutely. We have what's called a Cooney Coon pig and it's from New Zealand. They're rare species of pigs.

They take about 18 months to grow to market weight. When your grandfather and your grandma talk about pork and barbecue not tasting like it used to, this is a very rich, sweet pork. And we've actually done a couple of pig picking barbecues where we have what we call a traditional piggly wiggly pig and a Cooney Coon pig side by side, same cooker, same cook. And you can tell the difference. It's just a sweeter, has that more traditional pork flavor.

So it's very good actually. So when you say market weight, I'm sorry. See, I'm all the time hungry and hearing about pigs gets me excited. What is the market weight on this type of pig? It gets to about 200 pounds and they're smaller, they're furry.

When you have a litter of them, they almost look like puppies because they throw all different colors. Some people register them. We harvest some of them for, what do you call it? Sausage and stuff like that. And we give it out to mainly friends and family and you'll get phone calls going, that is the best darn sausage we've ever had. Where can we get some more of that?

Because it is very, very flavorful. And I'll have to definitely get you some because you are quite the barbecue. I got to get on the friends and family list. I know that.

I'm excited. So I'm going to have to go learn more about this. And now I've got to visit your farm. I'm taking away from your time talking about politics. So your daughter, your daughters was in the Marines and suddenly you'd be a pilot and your son's at a military university and you and your husband have a farm, both row crops and pork and you're an investor. Tell us more about you.

Sure. Well, the Coneycomb Pig, that's more, it's not a pig operation, if you will. It is something my husband does. Like I said, we distribute to friends and family. Now, myself, I've been a business executive. I've been a CFO of a material handling company. And my husband and I also run a construction firm that we build both commercial and residential farms, or excuse me, both business and residential buildings.

We're on that farming topic if we got all over there. So definitely an extensive business background. And, you know, I'm a proud member of People's Baptist Church in Greenville, North Carolina. I have a fantastic pastor, Pastor Tim Butler. I sing almost most Sundays, I should say, depending on my schedule with the choir. And it's a fantastic way to minister to, you know, that's my fellow brothers and sisters in the church. Well, I'm excited to hear that you're part of a choir. I travel and speak at a lot of churches. And that's something that I miss is not a lot of churches have choirs anymore.

You know, a choir is not only a blessing to the people that are hearing it, but it's an opportunity for people like you to have a musical talent to be able to sing and worship the Lord that way. So I'm learning all kinds of new things about you today. So you've got so much background and so much experience and so busy.

Why would somebody, Sandy, I mean, you're so busy, you got so much going on. Why in the world do you want to run for office? Well, I'm a firm believer, if you want change, you have to be willing to take action. And I continue to see folks suffer from government overreach.

We experienced ourselves, you know, with regulations and stuff. And, you know, I felt that we could do better. We need change. We need people that are, you know, come from a business background and have struggled like normal Americans and not have been in the politics their entire life. We need folks that really understand the needs of our country. And I decided to step up and run because, you know, I thought I could contribute and serve my country in that capacity. Well, I want to thank you for that.

I wish that more people like you that have strong conservative and Christian values would get engaged in the political arena and run for public office. And, you know, when you got in this, Sandy, it wasn't walking out. It's a cakewalk now. But when you first got in this race, you decided to run against one of the most powerful Democrat members of Congress at that time. And he is, Butterfield, I believe, was his name.

Is that correct? That was the previous Congressman in that district? Or I guess he still is. But he's not running again.

There's other people try to I mean, that's got to be terrifying. Running for office is a big step for anybody. But I think he was like number three or four. I may be wrong. You can tell us more about it.

But he was one of the main lieutenants under Nancy Pelosi. So to have the intestinal fortitude, the guts, the courage to say, you know, I love my country so much. I love my family so much. I want to return this country back to where it needs to be.

And I don't care if it's a real David and Goliath kind of story. Did people try to discourage you for taking on the big dog when you decided to run? Yes, they did. This district traditionally has been a Democrat D30 plus district. We've actually not had a Republican in this district since I think it's 1887. And I decided in 2020 to run a rerun district and I got put into Butterfield's district.

And I decided, look, I cannot stand here and do nothing and let a Democrat continue to legislate and disservice this area because we're pretty, we're really one of the most undeveloped areas in eastern North Carolina. And he had served and you're absolutely correct. He is Nancy Pelosi's number three.

He's a senior deputy whip. And he served for the last 20 years and done very, very little for this community. And the only time it seemed like people would actually see him was during election time. And because the way the district had been drawn traditionally, it had, he would go and campaign in Durham and very limited places.

So the rest of the area got neglected. So in 2020, I ran and I actually swung the district 25 points, got within a striking distance of taking him out. And that was after they stopped counting my vote. I was the only congressional race in the state of North Carolina that they stopped counting on election night and left at 78% for over nine days. And we know that there were some shenanigans that happened.

We even received letters from the board of elections stating that there was, they forgot to count entire precincts and things like that. So rather than just give up, we continued to fight and continue working towards 2022. My opponent, DK Butterfield at the time, knew that there was no way he was going to be able to beat me a second time. So I forced him into retirement.

And now we are into the general. I won my primary here for 2022. I had seven gentlemen tried to run against me and I beat every single one of them.

And I think there was upwards of $2 million that was spent against me and I won without a runoff. So that was a historic win. And we're ready to make history in November when we beat the now chosen one, because my opponent did retire. So he actually picked his successor and we're hoping we're going to beat him. We're excited. And people want change. We don't need more of the same. We need change.

They own a construction company, a farm. She is a proud Christian and American gun-owning, gun-toting, loving American. I probably shouldn't say gun-toting without your permission, but Sandy Smith is someone who loves our country.

Her family has defended our nation, and she is now serving in another capacity by running for the United States Congress in the First District of North Carolina. Sandy, you told us a little bit about your district. I think you said you're in eastern North Carolina. For those who may not be familiar, can you tell us a little bit more about the district that you plan to represent after November?

Sure. It's in eastern North Carolina. So if you're in North Carolina and you go up I-95, which runs from Florida all the way up to Maine, it's about halfway through the state. And my district is from about Wilson County, right in the middle-ish, all the way up to the Virginia border, and then east towards the coast, almost to the water, not quite. And then down to, I have 19 counties in the district.

It's one of the biggest in the state. It's almost a quarter of the state. And this district, they re-drew this district. And so now it is now rated a toss-up district. So this is a real opportunity for us to flip this district. It's not one of the heavy D districts any longer. Since the hard work, we proved that this district is now trending to the right. And every cycle has moved at least two points. And we moved it 25 points last cycle.

And right now it's ready to, they're rating it as a toss-up. Well, I wanted to ask you, in the first segment, you mentioned that when you ran last time, it was a D-30-plus district. And that's kind of an inside politics term. For people that might not be familiar, can you tell them what you mean when you said that?

Absolutely. You could put the best Republican against the Democrat, and the Democrat would always win by at least 30 points. So everyone prior to me, Butterfield would beat them by 30 points. I think that's what I said. So I was able to shrink that up to less than, it was eight points that we got it in last time. So they... Go ahead.

That's what I was going to ask you. So they redrew the district. It's not only that he's not running now, but the district lines have been redrawn to make it more favorable for a conservative candidate this time?

Yes, sir. That's exactly what has happened. And plus the district, most of the districts, they picked up more conservative counties. But also what's interesting about Northeastern North Carolina, it is... Yes, there is a lot of Democrats here. We have Republicans, and we actually right now in North Carolina have more independents registered. And those independents tend to pick Republican ballot two to one. On top of that, the Democrats that are registered in the first district tend to be conservative. They do not identify with the radical urban Democrats. So that's why we have a lot of folks that are registered Democrats that come over and support my campaign and will vote for me. Yeah, I think we're seeing that trend across the country, particularly in the South. The Southern Democrats of old time are not like these new radical socialists that are running the Democrat party today. I think it's going to be a real wake-up call for the liberals and for the Democrat party in the November elections coming up here in just a few months. As I mentioned earlier, Sandy, a lot of people across the country are not just looking at their own congressional races anymore, but looking at races across the country because they want candidates all across the country that are going to do things that will help them.

So what will you do that will... I know you want to help your district because I know there are some poor areas in your district, and as you said, Mr. Butterfield has not done a lot for his district, but what are you going to do for the American people once you relate to the United States Congress? Well, we're going to have to immediately stop this Biden agenda. It's killing jobs. The out-of-control inflation is crazy. We need to stop printing this money and spending recklessly. We need to get everything back into control. We need to take a look at our energy.

We're not energy independent anymore. We're dependent on foreign oil, so we need to get back to being focused on American energy as well as opening up the pipelines and getting those gas prices down. I have families now that are actually trying to make a decision whether or not they're going to go to work or stay home because they can't afford to go to work, pay for gas, and put food on the table. So the American families are under a tremendous amount of stress. We also have the craziness with our Second Amendment.

We have to make sure we are protecting our Second Amendment. So there's a lot of different things that we can do, and like you said, I have folks that support me from all across the country because, for example, say you live in California. You might not be able to get a conservative to represent you in Washington but by supporting me in North Carolina, I'm able to help push that conservative agenda in Congress for everyone across the country.

So it's a team effort. That's why I have a lot of folks that reach out from across state lines. So we really need everyone to help, everybody. I was thinking as you were talking about the economy and what people are worried about, earlier today I saw a report on Fox News where there are a group of former Navy Seals that are running for Congress. I know you've probably run into them at different events that you've gone to around the country, and one of them said, you know, when he goes out and talks to people, it's the same thing you were saying. He said that people are concerned about gas, groceries, and grandbabies. And that really is, right now, I mean, with the price of gas, I was in California a couple of weeks ago, Sandy, and it's just crazy. Well, you've seen my truck. I bought a diesel truck about a year ago, and now I'm kind of really feeling the pain where it's over $6 a gallon. Some places out in California, it's $8 to $9 a gallon for diesel right now. You mentioned you're a farmer. We think about the farmers across our country right now with the diesel engines of the tractors.

Farmers don't make, as you and your husband know, farmers don't make much money anyway. And then when you have this expensive equipment running off diesel, the president is just killing us right now. Inflation has really gone crazy. So when I look at Congress, I mean, I'm probably like a lot of other people, Sandy, I get frustrated because the Republicans have not done, in my opinion, a good job of taking a stand and doing the right thing when they have the opportunity. You know, for example, when President Trump, and you know, love him or hate him, but when he was, his first two years in office, he had control of the Senate and the House and the White House, and a lot could have been done with the Speaker of the House at that time, a Republican, just fought him on everything. And it seemed like when Republicans have had the opportunity, I'm sorry, I'm kind of taking the stuff here for a minute, but it seems like when Republicans, you know, and I know, and I don't want you to have to name people, I'll name them for you, but you know, like the majority leader of the Senate right now, they don't always come, but sometimes they come through, but at other times they compromise, just like the recent, which we'll get into in a few minutes, the recent compromise where 14 members of the United States Senate have agreed to compromise on the Second Amendment and gun rights. What can, how can one little Congresswoman from North, and I don't mean that in a demeaning way, okay, so for those of you who don't know me, it's something that I'm sexist here, but what can one little Congresswoman from North Carolina do when the leadership of the party is not willing to stand up and do something?

Well, first of all, I'm going to say it takes, it only takes one to start. If no one will step up and, and say something, then we're going to continue down that same path. So, and that's kind of why I decided to, to run is because I wanted to see change. And if we sit back and do nothing and just yell at our TVs and don't get involved with our communities, we're going to continue down this path that we've been on.

And, um, I'm going to, I'm going to say, I'm going to say, okay, we're going to continue down this path that we've been on. And, um, you know, we, we definitely, we need to make sure that we're electing true Christian constitutional conservatives. And that is in a lot of times folks talk about term limits and stuff.

That is their term limit is every two years. So we have an opportunity. We just have to take hold of that and take action.

Um, we're hoping that we have strong, bold leadership when we take back the House in 2022, to clamp down on the Biden runaway inflation, Biden's, you know, his whole entire, you know, agenda. I mean, it's almost like they're trying to strangle and hurt Americans across the country. I mean, here in North Carolina, one of our biggest industry is farming, agricultural, is, or agriculture, I should say, is our number one industry. So this stuff with, you know, not being able to get fertilizer in like we're supposed to in prices quadrupling, it's affecting everyone. And then you talked about diesel. So yes, we have the diesel for our equipment on the farms. It's cost a lot and it makes us have to pass that cost on to consumers, but also we have the truck drivers. I mean, we have truck drivers that are in our country right now that are parking their trucks because they're seeing, you know, crazy prices for diesel. You know, you said you were out in California. I was out there a couple of weeks too for a speech and I was seeing $8 a gallon for regular fuel in Los Angeles.

And I think they even had it on the news. It was crazy. And I'll tell you, usually when I go to places I love to get out and see the folks and stuff, it was the gas prices were so crazy.

I said, no, I went to my hotel, I spoke and I flew home, that kind of thing. So it's crazy. But no, you have to be willing to talk about the issues and bring it, put a spotlight on it.

That's what President Trump was able to do. There were so many things that he basically put a big, shined a big light on that it brought it to folks attention because of that we were able to see change come through. It's crazy what's going on. Welcome back to Christian perspective. I'm Chris Hughes, my guest today is Sandy Smith. If you're just joining us, Sandy is running the United States Congress in the first congressional district of North Carolina, which is kind of on the Eastern area. I think she said she has about 19 counties in her district. It's one of the largest districts definitely in North Carolina and one of the largest in the country as well as far as landmass.

She represents a lot of farmers and tourism's a little bit of an industry in her area too, but she's running for the United States Congress because she was fed up like we are of what's going on. Sandy, I heard the president saying just the last couple of days that what he's gonna do to help gas and to help stop inflation is to stop charging federal tax on gas through September. And that to me, that's just nonsense.

That does not solve the problem. One, our country is way in debt already. I mean, I'm not in support of taxes. I'd love to get rid of gas taxes, but stopping until September, if you don't do something just to hit the real root of this problems is not gonna solve anything. So what can you do in Congress to stop this inflation that's in our country right now? Well, first of all, let's talk about that gas holiday that the Biden administration is trying to propose right now. It's an absolute joke. It's about 18 cents across the nation and it would be eaten up by inflation.

Probably they're saying within six to 12 days. So we would not even see that relief truly as Americans. And I mean, I'm all about cutting taxes and if we wanna make a permanent cut to gas tax, that's great, but we need to solve the real issue and the real issue has been self-inflicted and that's by shutting down these pipelines and not making it so we could do American energy exploration and drill and focus on being self-sufficient when it comes to energy. So when I'm elected, I am gonna push that one, we reopen the Keystone pipeline. And we also allow folks to explore other opportunities in energy because it is imperative that we are energy independent but more importantly, that we're energy dominant throughout the world. When we are weak on energy and we are weak throughout the world, the world is a much unstable place. And we need to get back and understand that by us shutting down these pipelines and restricting our energy, it is affecting everything across the board. It goes down, it trickles down. I mean, people don't realize how many things we actually produce with petroleum and oil.

There's just, I mean, things that you would not even believe and that is affecting everybody across the board. By opening up the Keystone pipeline, it's gonna take a little bit of time to build our reserves and get back on track. But companies that have now been thinking about either closing their doors or raising their prices will take a look and pause for a second seeing that there's relief in the future.

So we wanna make sure that we have an opportunity to show them that there's absolute relief available in the future. And that's the first thing we need to do. We need to take a look at the taxes. Our taxes are crazy. But more importantly, we gotta stop spending. Right now, the government's printing more money than we actually bring in and it's basically causing the inflation. We've got too many dollars chasing too few goods. So we need to stop the spending. We need to start working and spending within our means and pass a balanced budget, something that hasn't been done since the mid-90s. It's scary when you look at the way they're just throwing money away and printing dollars nonstop. The balanced budget is something my administration doesn't even wanna think about. And we keep sending, my heart breaks with the situation in Ukraine, but we keep sending billions of dollars in Ukraine and we got babies starving to death cause they don't have baby formula here in the United States. It's horrible.

I don't understand them, Sandy. It's just, I just hope and pray that when you get there, you will not turn into some of the crazies. And it's really, we've got some on both sides, like Liz Cheney and some others.

Again, I'm not asking you to say anything negative about anybody in your party, but it's crazy at some of the things that are going on in our country right now. When you look at the oil situation, I mean, you talked about opening up the pipeline. Again, President Biden's favorite thing to say is, well, there's plenty of oil, they're just not drilling for it, which is simply not true. And then a bigger, we've got the big issue of distilleries. Distilling, or excuse me, refineries and distilleries, that's for liquor. Refineries, and I'm a Baptist, I don't know why that came out of my mind. Refineries is the term. So have you done any research on that, Sandy, on refineries? Why can't we have more refineries in the United States, or what can we do to solve this problem? I look at, and again, I know not everybody listening like President Trump, but time and time again, what he would do when there was a problem, instead of calling in government people, he brought in CEOs, I mean, world leaders, and many of them did not agree with him on stuff, but he would invite in the experts in our country that were running different companies and asking them what we could do for help. And I don't know why President Biden's not calling in the oil companies, well, because he doesn't like oil, but there needs to be a solution to this of how we can produce more oil, Sandy.

I know President Biden also has blamed this on, well, Russia, the measly little restrictions we put on them, they are selling more oil than ever before because they've picked up China as a major client. We have got to do something, and I sure hope that you as a Congresswoman, here's gonna take leadership, Sandy. I mean, you can't just go up there, as you know, and go on to get along.

You're gonna have to ruffle some feathers, so I hope you'll be ready to do that when you get to DC. Absolutely, but I wanna say, you get on two things. There's a major difference between Biden and President Trump. Biden has been a career politician his entire life. He does not understand business. He does not, some might even question if he really understands politics because he's been terrible.

The entire time he's been up there, I think it's what, 47 years? Where President Trump comes from a business background, very similar to mine. And in business, it's all about negotiating and making a deal and getting the best price and getting the best product. And that's why I believe that President Trump was the right president at the right time.

What we need, we still need him. And in regards to exploring more drilling, we absolutely need to open that up. Right now, the Biden administration is giving us what we call half-truths. They claim that they still have some permits that have been issued, but they're doing other restrictions so they can't actually drill. And just because they drill in one location doesn't guarantee that they're actually gonna hit oil in that location. But we have so many energy opportunities here in our country that we should be seizing on rather than dependent on foreign oil from dictatorships that truly hate our country. And yes, the whole Russia thing, which from what I understand this morning, I think one of our congresswomen had shared, we're actually still getting oil from Russia, even though the Biden administration is saying we're not. But yes, they've empowered China and now are making sure they're big customers. So like I said earlier, we need to focus on being energy independent so we can be energy dominant throughout the world. And we've got mom and dads that are struggling because of the high gas prices, but for the baby food shortage, a lot of this stuff across our country that's happening, the gas shortages, the food shortages, this is all self-inflicted. Biden has done this to us. And we need folks that are gonna stand up and say enough's enough, and be a Christian and be ready to fight, pick up our armor and understand that people aren't gonna always like everything we say, but we're doing what's right for the country and following God.

Yeah, I agree with you. Well, we could talk about inflation all day, but there's so many other terrible things going on. One that infuriates me is the issue at our border. And Sandy, I know, you know, in North Carolina, Hickory, which is closer to where I live, North Carolina, allegedly, now I didn't see it myself, but I was told by people that did, President Biden has been busing and flying illegal aliens and dropping them off in the middle of the night in places all over the country.

And I've heard reports where he was doing that in Hickory, North Carolina and other places too, and not just in North Carolina, across the country. We've got a crisis in our Southern border right now, Sandy. And Texas is currently, as you know, in a lawsuit with the Biden administration over the influx of illegal immigrants crossing the border.

And we have a lot of illegal immigrants right here in North Carolina where you are. So what is your solution to the border crisis? And it's a crisis, it's not just an issue for Texas. It's a problem for our entire country. What are you gonna be able to do about the border crisis?

Absolutely, it's a crisis affecting our entire country. And go back to, you said you had heard about Hickory. I've actually seen the illegals that have been dropped off in my area, in the first district. A matter of fact, there was a group of them walking down the highway. And they have like these big blankets with them.

They look like bears, because I was like, what is that on the side of the road? And it was migrants that had been dropped off in our country and what we're not talking about and what the Biden's don't wanna talk about is the potential crime and what the harm it's doing to our country. You know, we need to finish building that wall. I was out, like I said, in California a couple weeks ago and I was talking to folks about the border crisis. And they said, they're not seeing the people come over because Trump built the wall and started in California. And so it really goes into Arizona. So that's why we need to build the wall. We also need to reinstate President Trump's remain in Mexico. Because right now we're allowing these folks to come into our country.

And you know, we have a catch and release program, if they're even caught. But I understand that there was an article that came out, I don't know exactly when, but the Biden administration is admitting that we've had over a million people come across a border illegally. And I'm gonna tell you that that number is over 2 million.

A million's only what they're admitting to. This is affecting communities because the radical left is forcing these children that have come across to go into our public school system. So now our teachers are stressed out because here they have a child that speaks no English, has never been in a classroom setting, is now being thrown into a fourth grade classroom. And so that's taken away from American children's education. And we have workers, you know, as folks that, you know, they have the illegals coming over and they're trying, you know, it's taking jobs away from Americans. We need to build the walls and we need to have that remain in Mexico.

And those are the two things that we can start with. We saw a significant drop in border crossings when President Trump did that. And it was much better. I talk a lot with former ICE Director Tom Homan and it was safe, we were safer. It wasn't perfect, but we definitely had cut down dramatically on those border crossings because they knew that we were going to send them back.

And now it's a free for all. I mean, they're inviting people from all over the world. We're having terrorists come across that open border and we don't know where they are.

And, you know, we're just, you know, we're waiting. There could potentially be another 9-11 event because of that open border. And that's why it's so horrific what the Biden administration has done to the American people with the border.

Yeah, I heard a report just yesterday. There's a huge number of terrorists that were on our watch list that have come across. And I think, in my opinion, this is just me, I think part of the reason the Biden administration is doing this in the Democrat party is trying to get more votes because they want them to come across. They don't want to check voter ID. But I think it's backfiring on them, Sandy, because we've seen there have been some Republican primaries across the country in the last couple of weeks and several Hispanics have been elected overwhelmingly, kind of like you did in your primary, in Republican primaries.

And I think a lot of Hispanics that came here legally have had enough, and they don't want to see these illegals come either. We got to take another commercial break, folks. My guest today is Sandy Smith, a candidate for the United States Congress in the First Congressional District of North Carolina.

We've been talking about inflation, the border, illegal immigrants coming across the border. Sandy, I wanted to have enough time in our last segment and I hope we can get to gun rights and education, but as we are speaking right now, any time now, the United States Supreme Court could override the Roe v. Wade decision. And as a Christian audience, can you share with our audience what your position is on abortion? And then we'll talk more about what's gonna happen in the post-Roe America.

Absolutely. Well, first off, I'm 100% pro-life. I believe life begins at conception.

And I also believe that there is only two genders and that is decided by our creator at conception. So with this ruling potentially, we're waiting for it to come down from the Supreme Court, is a huge step to stopping this barbaric act that we allow to happen here in our country. There is nothing in constitutional about abortion.

It's organized murder. And anyone that disagrees with me, I would welcome them to a conversation and be happy to show them exactly what happens during an abortion. And I think what the Planned Parenthood, the type of organizations, they prey on our uninformed minority communities. And when we start educating the folks on what really happens during an abortion and also sharing with them that there's options.

We have families that would love to adopt children. We also need to share with these mothers that just because they're in that position and have gotten pregnant unexpectedly, that there's hope they can still get through everything and that abortion is not the answer. So that's my position. We're hoping for them to overturn it and return it to a state issue. And then we will be able to put pressure on our state legislators to put the heartbeat bills and then actually abolish abortions completely in the United States and each one of our 50 states, I should say. Sandy, in Congress, would you be willing to either sponsor or co-sponsor or support a bill that would defund Planned Parenthood? 100%, no tax dollars should ever be spent to pay for abortions ever. And I would be happy to sponsor or co-sponsor.

That's gonna be a real challenge. I do believe that this is gonna be overturned and it'll become a state's rights issue, but still you're gonna be in a position where you can still affect what happens. One, because Planned Parenthood is gonna continue to try to get money from the United States Congress as they have for many years right now. And another area or two areas where I think you could really help, Sandy, one is an abstinence education.

Our federal government under President Trump provided a lot of funding for abstinence education and they've really cut back on that since the Biden administration's become into power. And another area which you mentioned adoption is we really need to make it easier. And that's a criticism that the pro-choice, which I hate even using that term, but the other side is they criticize and say, we don't wanna take care of babies.

That's just not simply true. The Church of Jesus Christ and Christians have been the ones who've reached it out and promoted foster care and adoption and so forth. But for some reason, Sandy, it seems to be difficult to adopt an American child. A lot of people, nothing wrong with adopting kids from other countries, but I hope when you're in Congress that you'll try to find ways to make it easier for us to adopt those children that need families to love them right here in the United States. Absolutely, and I'll tell you the folks of Planned Parenthood and the radical left, the folks that believe in the pro-choice or organized murder, as I like to call it, are just evil.

When they refer to the baby in the womb as a parasite, there is something just dramatically skewed and messed up with them and it's disgusting. We definitely need to be educating folks on life. We need to educate them on, you know, value family.

We need to be focused back on our family. The left has focused on destroying the family nucleus and we need to encourage, you know, mothers to marry the father of their children and not the government. And we cannot let these folks that have just such evil intentions to continue to falsely, you know, inform the public and young, naive people in regards to what they're actually advocating for. It's disgusting and, you know, as Christians, my goal is to put Planned Parenthood out of business because they are not a woman's health organization. Their focus is on making money by harvesting baby parts and aborting babies, especially, you know, focused on the black community. It's horrific and so we have to fight this.

This is terrible. Yeah, I consider them more racist than most other organizations have been accused of being racist throughout history because no one's done more to harm the black community than Planned Parenthood. Their very founder, you know, wanted to wipe out the black community and the black community needs to wake up. African-Americans need to realize that abortion is not helping their community at all.

So I'm thankful for your stand on life. It seems like never before in history have there been so many issues that were so important at one time. You know, usually it's one battle going on in a time, Sandy. But another one right now, and all these are key issues, is gun rights.

Right now, as we're speaking, there are what's called red flag laws taking place across the country. The United States Senate has now cut a deal where 14, I believe it is, so-called Republicans have cut a deal with the Democrats. And I think any time we compromise, we never get anything back from it, Sandy.

Please don't be a compromiser, which I know you won't be when you go to D.C. We don't ever get anything back. I agree with you, it's right to be done. We give and it's time to quit. And these gun rights laws, so explain it.

We've got about three minutes left. Explain to our listeners what a red flag law is. And now, I guess the United States Congress and House and Senate are considering making federal red flag laws.

What are they and where do you stand on that issue? Well, first of all, I'm against any red flag laws. Our second amendment is crystal clear. That's an absolute right. And what these red flag laws do is they take out due process. I mean, of course, none of us want somebody who's crazy, who's unfit, who's a harm to themself or society to have a gun, but we don't want them to have knives.

We don't want to hurt anyone. But by passing these red flag laws, it would enable folks to make accusations against someone without having to go to court and have their due process. And that's very scary. It could be something as simple as somebody didn't like the way you cut your grouse or you left your trash cans out up front and they're gonna call the authorities and say that they feel threatened by you and all of a sudden you have a knock on your door and the law enforcement's there to pick up your guns. And then you have to pay to fight that accusation versus being able to go to court and plead your case and then let a judge decide whether or not you need to relinquish those or not.

But it's horrible. We need to step and we have to stand up and protect our second amendment right with every fiber of our being because we see with these nations that have given up their rights to guns what it's done. They become controlled by the government. They have no control and we cannot allow that to happen to our country. Well, I'll tell you something that scares me and I know he's not in the House, but that is Senator Rick Scott. When he was a governor of Florida, he pushed and got red flag laws passed and now he's the head of the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee and I'm afraid he's gonna put pressure on senatorial candidates across the country if they wanna get funding from the Republican National Committee to support red flag laws. And it's scary that this is happening within our own party and red flag laws don't work.

And as you said, I mean, people can accuse you of anything. We recently had on Representative Mike Hill from Florida that he told me that there were people in Florida who, you know, like ex-wives or, you know, different people have accused people of stuff. The government comes in and seizes all their guns and ammunition in their home and before you get a hearing, Sandy, like you don't get to respond.

They just come and take it and then down the road, there's a hearing and he doesn't know of a single case where any of those people who were found to not be in danger of harming themselves or others have ever gotten their guns back. It's scary what's going on in our country right now. Oh, absolutely, absolutely.
