Hidden Treasures of the 119th Psalm. So we are going on a treasure hunt and the gold we are seeking in this treasure hunt is actually the face of God, pure light. So join us taking this deep dive mining with King David in the 119th Psalm.
I am the God of my life. Well, digging into the gimel section today, how fun is that? Verse 17, as we are digging into this one, you know, I want to just reflect for a second on the letter gimel, which is a foot. And as you think about that, beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news. And so as we look at this, the letter gimel has so many neat aspects to it that we're going to talk about as we go through these verses.
Just to start off with verse 17 is deal bountifully with thy servant that I may live and keep thy word. Well, the beautiful thing about that, the more that we think about this, as Robin Williams instructed us a few lessons back, is we hope that in this class we're going to learn to savor words and language. And so in this particular episode, it's all about savoring some words, because again, you might think as a car dealer most of my life that that word deal was, you know, starting out is really cool. But the word in Hebrew actually has nothing to do with a car deal. It has a lot to do with food, because the word gimel, which is the word that is going to start this whole section, it means to wean, which you think about what?
It means to wean? Well, I don't know if you ever had considered what it means to be able to savor food. And the first time you find this word in the Bible, this gimel word is there when Isaac is weaned and Abraham throws a big feast, right? Because Isaac can now taste solid food.
And, you know, if you think about it, obviously a child can't take communion. And so what King David is asking here, because you're going to see as he gets to the end of this is he's talking about the word, and there's the milk of the word, and there's the meat of the word. And so at this point in time, when you when you think about what he's actually saying, he's saying, wean me, you know, get me where I can eat the good stuff.
So where I can savor words and language, this is going to be important. And then, you know, listen to how he goes from that it says deal bountifully with thy servant. You know, there he's placing himself, like, I'm, I'm, I'm your servant, Lord. And I want to live. Well, that word live is so beautiful in Hebrew, it's it's absolutely amazing.
The word live, it has a hat, and then a yud. And the idea there is that I am going to reflect God in such a way that I'm going to be married to him, we're gonna spend a lot of time on that letter when we get to it. But the idea there is that he's, as God's servant, going to reflect his glory in such a way as to make babies. I mean, that's really where that goes. And so in order to live fully, you know, part of that is to be fruitful.
And so he's asking that God be fruitful with him and give him the good stuff to eat. So getting back to that word, Gamal, it starts with that foot, it starts, like you would have might imagine, with a gimel. And then it has a meme, which is the sign for the Messiah, in other words, and water. And it's really a neat thing.
It's like, we're gonna be carrying the Messiah here. And the last letter you can hear is limited here that L at the end, like Gamal. And so you can hear the meme in the middle and you can hear the gimel in the beginning and you can hear the limit at the end.
Well, that limit is with your heart. Well, King David's all about your heart. So think about what this has to do with food, right? Like, we talked about the gimel itself is the rich man running to give the poor man what's been stolen from him. So here we have the rich man, which is God, which is bringing the Messiah to our hearts.
Right? And how's he going to do that with the word but in the case of a baby, right? He's got to bring life.
And the way you bring life is by beginning to eat solid food. And so it's just like, man, I could spend a lot of time here, but deal bountifully with thy servant that I might live. And then listen to how he finishes it and keep thy word. In other words, he's taken you back to of what it is that he is wanting to eat, which is God's word. And as he eats God's word and savors it like we talk about here, then he is going to be fruitful. And he can then have those same feet of the rich man to go give that food. And so what an exciting journey we're going to have as we start out here in verse 17 in the gimel section. I'm so glad you're mining with us. I hope you can just savor this one today like, Lord, wean me and start feeding me the solid food that I might live, right? And keep your word.
