Did you ever wonder? Did you ever wonder?

I do. Did you ever wonder? Why the sun always rises, but the stars never fall?

Why dry land is never satisfied by water? And why fire never says enough? So, welcome back to Bible Wonders with the Christian car guy. Last episode we talked about the word heritage, and so much of that had to do with child.

And interestingly, God really had me there this morning as I'd been watching the movie The Kid. And, you know, if you ever want to see a childlike heart, you know, look what that movie does. It's a Disney movie.

It's on the Disney Channel. I want to play a clip from it, and I'm going to set that up a little bit that there's a guy by the name of Russ Durrett, and he is an image consultant. In other words, really, from my perspective, he teaches people how to pose, how to put on an imitation that would look good. And unfortunately, he gets this point in his life where he becomes a real jerk, as you'll hear in this clip. Yet people are trying to, you know, bring out the kid in him, so to speak. And so in this particular scene, you know, he has filmed a way to kind of get this guy out of bad trouble that's been stealing this money, and this young lady had helped him film this, and he had just thrown the tape away because she knew that it was immoral what they were doing using the tape for.

And the way he did it was very childlike. Well, she is walking out of the restaurant with him, and they're passing by the trash where the tape would be, and he wants to dumpster dive to go get that tape so he can make that client happy. And she is trying to, you know, get his mind off that kind of thing.

That's what's happened in the clip. But as you listen to this, see how much more attractive she thinks the child is in Bruce, or in this case Rusty, Russ Duretz, than would be the poser. Isn't it lovely? It's big, it's beautiful, it's revolving around the earth, proving once again that the universe does not revolve around you. Worth a look if you ask me. Are you looking? I looked. Look again. Okay, Amy.

You're fooling around, all right? I looked. Can we go? Hey, will you stop?

I stopped. I want to show you something. Tell me if you think this is cute. Oh, look at the moon.

It's so big and round, and when I look at it, I'm all perky and excited, and no one would ever know that I'm almost 30. What do you think? Cute or just stupid?

You know us? Just when I think I've seen the worst, that there's no possible way you could be more of a jerk, you outdo yourself. And then, just when I'm about to leave, you do something. Like tonight, when you threw that tape away, then I get the tiniest, briefest glimpse of the kid in you. That's when I decide to hang around for five more minutes and see what happens next.

So the question I can't help but ask myself is, how many times did I want to go dumpster diving in order to try to save my image? You can't help but see the poetic justice of that one. But nonetheless, pursuing that childlike heart, you know, in George McDonald's Unspoken Sermons series, it starts off with so much on this childlike heart. And I started to think about how critical that is to my faith and the ability to wonder. So it's kind of fun that we start off this whole wondering thing with trying to renew the childlike heart in us that wants to wonder at things.

So the moon is big, and it is beautiful. But you might just think with me a minute about the word child in Hebrew, which is, actually, if you were to say it in Hebrew, it says valid. Really, that's the way you would pronounce it, valid. And I don't know if you've ever heard this, but when the man at the well was—not the man at the well, the man that was at the pool of Siloam, they called him an invalid or invalid. And Jesus was like, do you want to get well? Well, you know, he needed a restoration of a childlike faith, right?

That's exactly what happened. So when we look at that word child or valid in Hebrew, you know, we're going to go through these letters again. So the first letter, there's two different ways to spell it.

It's either with a yud or with a vav, but I'm going to do it with a yud because the yud is really a clear letter. It's simply like the spark of God. It's the little that means a lot, right? Like, that child is going to grow up to be something really, really cool. But it is the seed that, you know, was there at conception, the God, you know, molecule or whatever that everybody's searching for that obviously is his to put in his image bearer.

So that's where you begin, child. And then you go to that lamed we talked about in the last episode, which is this heart that wonders at the big moon. I mean, it's just beautiful. And then the last letter and child is absolutely amazing. It's a dalit. And that dalit is the letter that actually starts King David's name.

In fact, King David's name is dalit vav dalit. So that idea is of a godly servant is what it really is. And when you think about a child, how often does that child that you may know say, can I help? You know, they want to wonder about things, they want to ask questions, and they always want to help.

I mean, just ponder on that a minute. Of course, every child of God is how can we help? How can we serve? That's what a great leader would be. A servant, right? Was it any wonder that one of the greatest leaders of all time was King David?

His name literally is the servant that came from heaven as a servant. I mean, it's just absolutely beautiful. And so next time you hear a kid talk about, can I help? Why not call out that glory? Why not call out that wonder and wonder with them and maybe you can find a way to help as well.

Thank you for wondering with me today. I know this one is a little bit longer, but I thought you would enjoy the episode of The Kid. By the way, that's a Disney movie. You can find it at the Disney Channel or on the Disney app.
