Christian Car Guy
Welcome to the Christian car guy radio show talk show dedicated to helping Christians buy and sell cars by the book blue book knobby orange book, but by God's book, the Bible called the Christie car guy with your questions.
186634218663 for 87884 as being a Christian have to do with buying a car you're about to find out. Here's your host Robbie Gilmore good morning. You're listening to the Christine Kardashian I'm Bob Young from 109 you pulling your Christian junkyard guy filling in for Robbie deal more like give a shout out to everybody at one and on you, but I think a few of them obtained in this morning the telephone problems are behind us and things have settled down and smoothed out a little bit. I'd really like to thank Robbie for the opportunity to do the show. His ministry is change my life so much. I never thought could ever imagine.
A few years ago me sitting here hosting a Christian talk show is really funny how God works is a real blessing for me to be here today with you folks. I'm really excited and looking forward to lots of phone calls hope. Lots of folks will give us a call if you have a question, a comment just want to chat or feel like you can add something to the show poor or just one little information please give us a call at 866-348-7884. We also have Mike Westwood with us today from Texas. Micah used to be with them. So I believe it so that business at this time is still a plethora of knowledge in the whole industry. So if anybody has any old questions for Mike with I love you give us a shout and will see if we get Mike with you on that very excited about our topic today. It's one I have just oodles of experience with and have seen many examples of through the years that my business I put our topic today is have you ever read your ride. I know at some point in your life you are someone you know has made a makeshift non-factory repair on some part of the car just to get from point a to point B. If you have a story along these lines give us a call 866-348-7884 and share your story. We have all seen it done it or both.
Have you ever driven a vehicle that needed repairing that needed a major repair something significantly wrong with the car and you just found a way to get from point a to point B. I have done and seen some crazy things along these lines through the years and many times it seemed like the rig job works so well that it was easy pretty easy to make to put off making the proper repairs. I've compiled a list of non-factory repairs and incidents of operation of a vehicle that needed to repair. I have meaning, but I'd really love to hear from some of you I know everybody has a story along these lines love to hear from you. 866-348-7884 Collison share your story about uncle Joe's pickup with the milk crate for driver seat or the bungee cord that held aunt Betty's hood down, there's all kinds of rig jobs it's been done through the years. Everybody seen one and I like to start off the list of rig rides by that old classic the old coathanger to the exhaust system treat. I can't count how many cars I've seen through the years come in at the junkyard that had a coathanger holding it up in the front line or the muffler been ripped out from underneath and somebody got up under their got the old coathanger out and made it work. I've got to admit that I have utilized the coathanger to the exhaust system trick a few times myself.
It it does work on a temporary basis, but like say you got to be careful about the the temporary fixes that start the list of partially of operating a partially disabled vehicle. I've got to tell a story about driving 20 friends on a rafting trip.
There was a bunch I was. It was really 20+ actually we had an old bus with fixed up and we made it look real good on the outside didn't give it much attention. Under the hood, but the we loaded up and headed home a rafting trip to Clemson, South Carolina.
We left from Winston-Salem and I were maybe a little bit more about an hour down the road near Kannapolis. A loud screeching of metal and a small cloud of smoke left the clutch in operable. We pulled over to the side of the road and trying to salvage the tree up everybody was coming up with ideas of how we could proceed own and some people were suggesting we could rent a couple of bands and somebody else mention we could rent a moving truck. I said well let's see what we can do will drive it to a Canton then we'll figure out what we got today so I got everybody back on the bus and we loaded up and crossed her fingers said a little prayer and I hit the switch and we had a little chill chug chug because it was stealing year and the starter was moving the bus we had it in first gear and all of a sudden the bus fired up and with a loud cheer from everybody in the back of the bus, but by keeping the RPMs right. I was able to shift gears and move forward through a tree up. We drove the bus from Kannapolis all the way to Clemson to the motel.
They direct motel that night. Got up and got on the bus next morning and went from the motel to the river where we were rafting got back on the bus went back to the motel states Saturday night and then Sunday morning we loaded the bus and choked her did the old chug start again and drive it all the way back to Winston-Salem and if I didn't have 20+ witnesses, I would probably never tried to tell this story, especially on the radio but I do have a lot of verification that the that this happened and it's really intense it's really intense, though, because you got to gear down and get the RPMs right at the stop lights and you, I gotta time the stoplights and when you gotta stop in everything because you don't want to use that starter in the morning have to and Robbie would probably check me out for telling this because it is very dangerous but it's what we had to do with the time to get where we did. The reason I was confident that I could perform this thing I do perform December feet back in the 80s and on 1977 Toyota Corolla with a broken clutch cable we drove it from yakking veal. The Charlotte and for those of you who live in this you live around the Charlotte area. The old Coliseum was on Independence Boulevard and between 7777 and the old Coliseum. There was just oodles of stoplights so it took a lot of caution had to be very cautious with what we were doing and everything in time of the stoplights and everything but it was much easier in the 77 Corolla that it was the bus, but I just felt like we might could do that because of what you know what I had experienced in the Toyota. The time before there's one from each of my list the coathanger to the exhaust pipe for the rig in your rind and the operation of a vehicle that needed a major repair or I needed a repair.
That's right, driving a vehicle without a clutch. There's one from each of my list love to hear from somebody please give us a call 866-348-7884 your list into the Christian car guys show with guest host Bob Young filling in for Robbie deal more would love to have you give us a call if you just tuned in our topic for the day is have you ever read your ride or driven a vehicle that was in desperate need of repair.
A talking to my dad a few years ago and he was sharing with me about this bicycle tires that they had to operate on. He lived during the depression and the rubber was hard to come by and it was hard to obtain tires and when we get back I'll share with you about the what, how he rigged his ride even on a bicycle, but were looking forward to many cows today. Hope these phone lines light up soon.
Give us a call at 866-348-7884. Once again you're listening to the Christian car guys show with your guest host Bob Young filling in for Robbie deal more good morning. You're listening to the Christian car guys show with your Christian junkman junkyard God sees me, Bob Young, filling in for Robbie deal more if you just tuned in our topic for the day is have you ever read your ride or driven a vehicle that was in desperate need of repair.
Give us a call at 866-348-7884 we have a call going take our first call. I believe it's Brenda from Clarksville, Indiana yes, how you doing today I'm great well I'll tell you I was nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs while a guy had a little stress at work this morning no telephones acting up and everything.
But as time goes on.
I'm getting settled down and settled in.
It's it's it's a little different for me been talking to a national audience, and Robbie does it so well, and he just handles it with such ease and perfection that it makes me a little nervous to try to fill his shoes. You know he 65. Those are some pretty big shoes. What can we help you with this morning. Thank you very much. I'm a little nervous but I like to say I'm settling the end and feeling a whole lot better. Now there in the second segment driven a car that was enough for repair and many years but now I was very young driver in my first "and it went repair with makeshift repair got a leak in my radiator and it was finally in the radiator and the people in my running group decided that my car would no longer leaking overheat when we were out on the weekends gallivanting if they put black pepper and the radiator you left a hole and we would not have to stop metric Ellen Carey gallon jugs in the back either water didn't work at work about 24 hours. I would told I needed more pepper, of course, spent it never did feel it totally. It still had a small leak. I think it should clog things up a bit more work on the car were you driving a Ford Fairlane Ford Fairlane, a classic class and well I must admit I have used the paper in there and for a temporary very temporary like you say enough to maybe get home is not too bad in any got you where you needed to go didn't let it's so tempting sometimes when one of these quick fixes works for you little bit. Well, maybe I can make another trip and maybe young put off this repair a little bit longer but it sounds like you want to head and just use it as a temporary correct. My daughter and her wonderful caramel radiator so I don't like peppering work like that already felt very loud and clear this by Robbie bring in these topics that I hope you don't switch my legs for bringing these makeshift repairs on the rare, but the night with thank you very much. We really appreciate your call in the great YouTube. I now I think we have Carolyn in Graham, North Carolina Carolyn in Graham North Carolina. Are you with us. Caroline Kernersville okay well my screens is grand.
That's not too far away how you this morning.
Great to have you on the radio with us.
Do you have a story here? How can we hurry. Nine 1970 or 71 in downtown Charleston at school and my Volkswagen would not run my brother, my daddy had wrecked all rebuilding shop North Carolina North Charleston. I call my brother. He came to save me and figured out it was a fuel pump that it gone out the windshield wiper fluid plastic thing and put it up outside of the engine and put gas in it to run down you know into the carburetor and I got me 20 mile column so he could fix the coupon deal gravity feed their thinking. That was really pretty dangerous. Will I will attest to the safety of many of these league these ride regulars that we talked about today and some of them are really quite dangerous like driving that bus and without a clutch of we didn't put anybody into much jeopardy, but we could've just got stopped in a bad place and really caused a really big traffic jam if if it had started up and went on in the fashion that it had we knew it was in the radiator only was it a Volkswagen beetle yeah yeah well we knew what to write what the radiator problem on those. Those are air cooled engines, but the thank you for sharing that story with us and that was very ingenuity love your brother-in-law, you say you're very, very creative, sounds like a MacGyver in the makings on the Lord now well.au that's it's a place I'm I'm not in a hurry to go that I'm sure looking forward to it and the sometimes we wonder why people leave us early. I had some people come by. We lost the guy that did a lot of business with us and just helped out at the junkyard. A lot of times, and his dad came by after he was killed in a car wreck and we were talking about how my mom died a young at an early age and she was 62 when she left and I say we wonder sometimes why Lord takes him, but that maybe they earned their blessing a little early and maybe it will all be so clear to us when we get there. You not crowded. Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody want. I don't think the thing that first by everybody wants to go to so much as Jason or somebody hereby wants to go to him, but nobody wants to go now like that.
That's the that the maybe the ones to get there early as got the story for us when we get them will realize that they were the lucky ones all current authority pretty. I want to be with the Lord that I'll be here for long.
If you want it. It also highlights things in front of us.
You know if Robbie had had the the vision to invite me to come and be on the show as a guest is a guess for a few times.
I never had the nerve to sit in here and do this show in the it's been such a great thing for me to come in and just be a part of this and and I guess the Lord laid it on them. Hey, this guy's got a little something that you might can use in the other sub it's been a blessing to somebody somewhere along the line.
It's really been good for me. Great with thank you is little easier in the second segment when things are a little hectic in the morning and then the you don't have as much time to get settled down and get prepared and in your heaven phone troubles are night button was just given this. Thank you for you, Kyle will really appreciate it get to the rest of these cows and just a little bit, this is Bob your Christian junkyard guy filling in for Roddy Gilmore fishing Hargeisa and good morning. You're listening to the preceding car guys know Bob Young Christian junkyard guy filling in for Robbie deal more if you just tuned in our topic for the day is have you ever read your ride or driven a vehicle that was in desperate need of repair. We shared little. We've had a couple of phone calls would love you to call and share your story with about about driving a car that was in desperate need of repair or some rig job you've done to get your car from point A to point B. The phone number is 866-348-7884 I mentioned earlier that we had Mike Westwood from Texas with this Mike young there good morning brother. Do you think Rob is going to break off a hickory and switch. My legs were talking about these kind of repairs on vehicles back. Well it was something I knew a lot about. I'd seen so many of them through the years and performed a few all my vehicles in the early days and just something I want to share about how things in Texas this morning. Hot drought and dry, but I've got a good story for you about when I was a young man.
My dad ran auto repair shop and I had a 1957 with button automatic transmission, you remember, heavy with the foot" transmission well and my dad would make her self one night about burned out in the town next 3 miles apart. Well I decided I decide to drive it home, reversed to work I drove down the original 66 Rob Ford Illinois and referred taught me and pulled me over and all he could do was laugh were more but will be over laughing. My dad you know what I'm giving you pictures when I talked to dad over coffee Monday morning. You were you job need a little bit harsh, too easy when it Winamp you something about young people's and that accelerator's always seem to do too well together.
Do not all muffler down right hot Rod Mike appreciate you staying sharing that story will is you will be with us for little while. I got a couple people holding the on the other. Can I drop it drop you for a minute and pick them up on.
Thank you brother.
Thanks a lot boys who were looking at. There is a Jerry or Greg which everyone little help in the ring that we got who we got here is Jerry Aldrich. I brother I'm doing great is this our Christian body guy Reichert morning and you know you're sharing the story about the bar maybe think about our not share this with you before got a couple ordinary or lower called career might what we did when we were younger. For one thing you think it is you and ignorance are what are we were gonna go on a trip coming back from work Texas like to be on the team. We are team but what is old Greyhound bus to Fort Paxton Born but we thought we were cool we are. But we got there, they wouldn't share so we getting where you could get the panel. Work before we get an access panel computer talk to shepherd the transmission from full work practice all the way back to him. We had a screwdriver in Florida were taking turns all the bus driver with try to shift gears mashing the clutch we were shifting through the hole that stuck down inside that that that combustion made it back, how it was like to think about that now and then the other thing and I know you did. How many times did you retread tires 5 tires and you guys would like for retread tires so the only There were no not in the recap rate cut on just cut a deep, 000. A paperthin car you drive in all paperthin time in the red so smoothly all absolutely not go one more story and something that ended up in thinking it up in your lot years ago we had a got came down for an estimate needed Corp. output impetus toward our little miniature wanderer small many spares on the back so he could drive it probably eight or nine months later in unit up back we got towed into our shop where he is toward all the faces drop it in the rain and opened up the trunk for your drive in a little. We opened up the trunk and had about six of those things in the backseat and also in the trunk and tore up so bad. I think we end up calling and you bought the call from them just to get them out from under it was one of those get away with it when they do call those things temporary reason.all absolutely not around forever. You have other callers. Great this morning and appreciate all you do.
Thank you.
Earlier man after God's heart and not restrict how you brother thank you Jay, thanks for all y'all's business is great to have such a great partner in the business world and maybe we can accomplish a few more great things together. Thanks a lot for you, next we have. I think Raymond and keying Raymond and being I believe we've lost Raymond thinking that the we do have one in Louisville Allen in Louisville, Kentucky.
Go ahead. Allen very very very high brother. How are you today called in the name of the Lord all a man brother. Amen. If you got a story for us today requesting our word for will you will owe the Lord on your adult merit go out from Eleanor sort: oh yeah, marking the start of their work in the 7 foot never doing thing like that I have and I must admit the old screwdriver to the solenoid is is one of my favorites in and I have I have a media I must admit that I've used. They don't at the yard not too long ago to get something going about yeah I will require you to grab the Lord works and it works but you have to be careful because if you get 1/3 item in the in the in the arcing there you can run really be detrimental in that I've seen some really nice screwdrivers ruined with that trick today and that amazing what would do to get something fired up and get back at it for a day to point B. That's what it's all about sometimes. But the got a remember though that you know if we if we get by with a temporary fix that is gotta eventually thinks it is better to go ahead and fix it before run into more trouble from our temporary fixes.
I really I run into some temporary fixes that it ended up causing more trouble than they fixed. You know what I mean. I will really appreciate your call this morning thank you for sharing with us and we appreciate hearing from you.
You have a great day. I will get back to the story about the what what my dad and told me about his bicycle tires. He lived during the depression and rubber was very scarce because of the war going on and everything in the they just couldn't afford new tires for the bicycle so they would take to war out bicycle tires and put them on the same wheel and you would take and allow and find the holes in the one in the inside one and get them where the good part was on the other tire notetaking shuffle them around, put the tube inside that had numerous patches on it and take off down the road and EB ride and then read pop attire and go back to the house and take the tires off and realign them and get good reverent get it looking where there was like good rubber all around everywhere but that you back in their patches that put it back in there again and pump it up and take off again on that bicycle and is just amazing how many times that the he said they they shuffled them tires around to get the holes lined up to where they were in different places and they made it work. You know, just another even though it's a bicycle it's a ride and it's great to remember my dad today we have another collar.
Is this a suspicious call.
It looks like Lori from Winston-Salem hello this is Bob.
How can we help you today I'm hearing your story. Make sure you don't forget one BMW I'll definitely tell the BMJ are you doing great today heart where everybody out there. This is the love of my life.
This is my wife Lori who was crazy enough to marry me.
7 1/2 years ago and that is just been the biggest blessing. The Lord ever through in my life. Maybe, thank you for con then reminded me of that. I really appreciate the cuff. I thought the F12 by now.
Yes she wanted me to tell the story about the BMW. I will get to that one and just a little bit, but that I have a couple other small ones.
I'd like to share what were talking about tires. I can remember the time I can remember the time that the I've seen it personally.
And one of my guys at the shop or mat reminded me of it yesterday and you have like a screw, a small screw or a nail in the tire you don't have a pet plugging kid or something like that you can take and pull the nail or screw out and put a bigger screw in its place and sometimes the larger one will stretch out the hole and you can make it a little ways.
Not a permanent fix.
Let me remind you, definitely not a permanent fix. You would want to try this and head to the beach or anything, but the if you figure out and need to get back home and need to get to the station sometimes that does work. And there's always the old vice grips to the door handle, or to the window handle and allow the old trucks. We have several at the yard you'll see Amanda. The handles have been broken completely off of the truck and just a little knob sticking out there you can take and put a set of vice grips on them and we get some vehicles in the still have the vice grips attached to that little knob sticking out the door where you can just reach down and grab that and give it a little pull Linda or take it and turn it around and wound the window down. There is oodles of stories about that. We've seen several incidents of this got a couple minutes before next break, I can't help but sharing about Reagan arrived we were at my cousins house.
I had never ridden a minibike in my life and they just got a minibike in it was a little bit of a piece because it is the throttle on the on the handlebars didn't work in the way they had it going you would take and wrap a string around the throttle on the carburetor and it it came up and it was tied to the handlebars on the on the minibike and you taken hold your thumb through that and pull it up with you time to make it go well, needless to say, when you went to turn the minibike. Your thumb moved, and the acceleration was increased tremendously. Not a great time great first-time experience on the minibike bad for me bad. For more about bad for my body bad for the minibike bad for that big bush in the in the yard in the just didn't work out too well, and that's the way a lot of these temporary fixes can go so remember be careful with your temporary fixes.
You never know where they called agent and for first-time drivers or somebody operate in a minibike for the first time I highly suggest you try one that has a regular throttle and regular breaks and all that. The first time, like to thank everybody it's called sofar would like to encourage everybody to give us a call 866-348-7884. This is your Christian car guys show Christian junkyard guy Bob Poston for the deal more. Thank you very much and good morning car guys love you. Your Christian junkyard filling in Robbie deal more have a lot of great calls this morning. Like share with you story that my wife asked about while ago is kind of the roots of my business. Some of you have heard about how, became a junkyard on I was a downer crushed through a mobile car Christian crew would go out and questioned about his cars and I was one that drain the gas and all the cars used to calling the tank out your list I needed it to sound fancy and then I would call myself an automatic, usually an automotive demolition technician. I had a lot of fun with that title, it made it sound kind of fancy and I but I was looking away for a way to pick up a little extra money, so about this 1971 Chevrolet wrecker from one of the towing companies in town then mixed a bunch paint together different paints together. They didn't really care what color it was as long as it had a good coat of paint on it and it will after they painted it turned out to be a ugly pale purplish color that I called them all, it was my BMW. Bob's mall wrecker. It was real pilot junk but I got started towing cars. It had 350 written on the side 350. Everybody felt that was the engine size but that what it actually stood for was three days on the road five days under the hood, and zero dollars but that it's how I got started. It was my beginning in the in the car business and one day I was picking up a car in Thomasville and the starter wire broke off. My only alternative I had only tool I had with me that I could make any kind of a fix was I had a pair of those vice grips that will fix a lot of things and I took and clamped the starter wire onto the starter crank that bad boy and told that car back to welcome and while I was driving I could inspect and make sure that my vice grips were sticking there because I could see it through the holes in the floorboard of this fine piece. I started with. But the I didn't waste much time on that when getting the proper connector and making a decent repair so I must admit I've read many a ride but now want to get to the most important part of this should I know we've had a lot of fun should know, we've had a lot of fun sharing the stories about funny but sometimes dangerous repairs and choices to operate a vehicle in need of repair but now must I mustache you have you ever read your life. Have you ever needed a major overhaul in life and settled for a few minor adjustments. I know I have. How easy is it for me for usually, how easy is it for us to make the smallest repair possible just to get by. Instead of thoroughly fixing the whole problem if he think it's a bad idea with the car.
It it can be much worse when you're dealing much worse when you're dealing with life for many years I would make the the minor adjustments in my life and think that you know think that that would really do the job that as a result, I got a minor improvement if any of now, I would look at the small improvements like a great accomplishment.
I'm a better person now.
I made a small adjustment and I but the it was like putting a Band-Aid on a cut that needed stitches it might slow the beat bleeding just a little, but it just don't really get the job done. Just like with your car most of the little fixes on your life are very temporary when it comes to something as important as your spiritual life. I advise you to consult the master consulted of the master mechanic of life.
He's me, I would likely advise you to consult with the master mechanic of life. Jesus Christ repairing lies for over 2000 years, folks, I can't say that much clear we can make little fixes on things on our cars and everything that they won't last. We can make little fixes our lives but I highly suggest, go ahead and get the pool fix the total revealed Christ in your life.
Make a big change to the whole overhaul. This is been great today have had a lot of fun this is Bob, 109 you put on the Christian card got so signing out.
Thank you. You're listening to TruthNetwork.com
