Well I Robin I said 96 years. That doesn't. That is just one of us rocking OO then a little rusty today, that's for sure. I did the mad Jerry had 30 now had 40 years in the body shop field. If you haven't tried is a topic that can apply the so many aspects of our life cars work, church, family, the list just goes on and on. How many times do we figure out in our minds we can't do something before he even give it the slightest.
Try everybody has a story on this topic. We make up our mind. We can't before we ever take the first step.
Then something happens and we realize we have to give it a try and then pouf it wasn't that big a deal to begin with we had the ability the whole time, just not the motivation. What is your story. What did you refuse to try only to find that after you tried. It was completely within your realm of capability. Go ahead, give us a call and share your experience. 866-34-TRUTH 87884 or if you have a car question or an insurance question deals here with all that experience and Jerry has all the body shop experience. I've got the parts business been in that for 18 1/2 years now so is a lot of knowledge right here at the at your disposal. Ladies and gentlemen, God blesses us with talents and abilities to enhance his kingdom. But many people allow doubt and fear to hold us back from fulfilling God's purposes in our life.
Being a part of the show is one of the best examples I can think of when Robbie asked me to be a member of the show.
I immediately thought of gobs and gobs and gobs of reasons that I that there was just no way in my mind that I could ever be a part of something like this. It was just not something I could do.
I just was just absolutely sure I had nothing to offer and that you know it wouldn't it. I was a good fit and I just kept thinking were reasons I couldn't let I'm so glad that I that I decided to give it a try because it's been one of the biggest blessings in my life met so many people and became so close with with folks that I wouldn't been exposed to. Without this, and in times of need. I've had great friends to lean on and it's just really really really been a great thing for me and hopefully somebody has gained something from from me being a part of the show would you feel when he asked you did you freak out and I definitely do had me nervous but I didn't. Don't this isn't my comfort zone for sure and just think of all what to say what to do and how stupid I sound probably on the radio. There's a lot of things there but you know what it is probably one of those things you don't know you can do it to you. Try to do it and you may not do it as well as you think you should be able to but we get by the very first time I was on the show are doing hosting the show. I was a train wreck. I got on their I was by myself and I thought I had plenty of material on that I got nervous and start talking so fast it just ran right through my material is in the very first segment and it was just it was just something that it was a new experience and and learned a lot and it always just it's been a blessing.
Ever since your first time is a little bit of a train wreck.
I think you will share with me while I go Bill out. We had an interesting time.
Robbie said take care the show for me. I think I've been on three times lined up a really good friend of mine asked him to come on the show prepared. Luckily I appeared about three different shows that I get ugly.
So I called my buddy a full week before words you can be. I called Wednesday and said you can be there.
Then Saturday morning about 10 minutes before the show was supposed to start up start to get nervous all at so I'm in Florida I had a family emergency come up yeah just forgot. Good luck. That was a very interesting hour of my life what I wanted to go ahead and share one the things that I had had no clue I could do it was back in the early days of my car hauling it was before I had the junkyard and I just never was much about working on stuff. I always felt like it.
I was in a underachiever in mechanical ability, but my role back in the just went to smoking like crazy and and the people it said it was and is the injection pump. This injection pump. Well, my funds were very very very limited. At that time, I was just so completely out of money that is no way I could afford pay anybody to do it so I got the injection pump and I got the wrenches out went to a friend of mine's garage where I can have somebody close by I needed advice, but I just went ahead and tore into it and an injection pump is a pretty pretty big endeavor. Specially, some for somebody that's limited in inexperience with that, but I got in there. Take everything apart and I try to take it up. Take it apart when you take enough apart at the yard and you're not going be putting it back on. You know, you don't have to mark everything and remember everything and have everything in order, because you know your sins and the part out somebody else is going to put it back on.
So that's a whole lot different from taken off apart, were you going to have to put another part back in its place and but I got in there and I got started. It took me you know, probably more than half a day. But when I got it all put back together and I about everything make sure I had everything in the right place and had left anything undone because those connections there is so much pressure on those diesel injection systems that if you've not got it all just right. You're going to have a leak in an significantly because her so much pressure involved but the biggest joy in a long long long time. When I hit the switch that puppy fired went to Purdon. It was just so so so rewarding that that I had done this myself very, very, very pleasing yeah, but it was just something I was put in the position I had to try was nowhere around.
Ladies and gentlemen here on the air here Colleen share your story for you just didn't try 866-348-7884 the right morning, everyone listened to the Christian car guy so obvious here today, but you have the traffic Christian car guy brother here, brotherhood here today brother Bill Mixon as well as Jerry with a raised body shop and wrecker service in me, your Christian junkyard guy, I'm Bob Young folks if you want to give us a call ask us any questions or sharing the experience you have with us, 866-348-7884. Right before the break we were talking about how I'd tried to head out actually was forced into the situation where I had to work on the role back and and that was so good for me and it opened my eyes to the fact that I could do if I would just try God's but that only so many times that you know just give it a try bomb if you fail failures just proof positive that you actually tried and I know if we never tried anything will never fail. But if we never fail, that means we probably haven't tried too many things just lots and lots of things I was able to do after that experience and just from the site that I realize it, I've got to give this a try to follow my face. I'm sure somebody out there has an experience where they didn't try and there's just so many things that are possible to us. If will just get up and and give it that good honest effort, and so many times you realize that things are just so much easier. Bill you have something you want to share with us this morning. You know when you told me about her topic remembered. This is a really important part of the year for my family. Luckily I married well. A wonderful, wonderful lady who excellent mother with got just a tremendous daughter who is very headstrong, very forward thinking and about 15 years ago. She had a sinus infection mama took her to the pediatrician and pediatrician gave her a little something mama was upset because she wanted amoxicillin. Amoxicillin always work well for a week.
I heard what it that Dr. just that I said darlin' just take her back is take her back. Will Hannah would any worse and I would be any better. So week later, Hannah goes back to the pediatrician I get a call about 10 o'clock in Genesis where it Baptist Hospital argued with her. I should know, darling. You're the pediatrician. She said we you hush I know who we are.
The pediatrician ran a couple test.
Our daughter has leukemia and he sent us to Baptist Hospital will the world started spinning. I mean I took a deep breath, Bob would pressure was up I could hear the pounding in my and some Scripture verses came to mind.
One was. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens I took a deep breath and asked was praying in the Holy Spirit said with prayer and petition with Thanksgiving. Lift up your request to God in the peace of Christ, which transcends all understanding, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus, I felt a lot lot better in the next verse that came to me was your chosen and holy and dearly loved by God in a way that's hard to explain. I heard a voice inside me that sitting yes we know that Hannah is chosen and holy and dearly loved by God and if this be true. We know God does not want her to have this case, I was able to take a deep breath until my wife. You tell Hannah we will get through this. There's no point in worrying what the day before the day before I was sitting there with a great big wall in my back pocket and I was trying to figure how to fit it out. It must've been a very slow day. One of the things I pulled out the day before was a health insurance card and on the back of it in great big red letters it said before you check into the hospital. You must call this number and I was thinking well what a stupid thing.
What in the world you do if unit so I pulled up the insurance companies webpage and sure enough they sit in a dire emergency, you got a reasonable amount of time so I called the red number on the back of the card I sent our pediatrician. He's in network sent my daughter to Baptist, which I assume is in network to I just want to make sure that everything she said don't worry about it. Don't give it a second thought, I civil, that's great. I want you Simeon email sock got to the hospital. It was Halloween. See, and the doctors came in and said your pediatrician ran to test and we've run for test because there are four different types of leukemia and we need to know what it was and we've got to tell you out of the four different types she's got the most difficult to treat, but the good news is we go after this really strong and really fast and if everything goes well, will be thin when seven months instead of two years and if we can get a bone marrow match, then we've got about a 50% success rate. What we plan to do, but with got a start on this by Monday. We've already given her chemo treatment in the hour that she's been here and I is daddy had a chance one in 300 and mama had a one in three little baby brother had about a one in six chance so we had everybody praying will Monday we get there and the doctor say we're sorry we don't have a bone Merrimack and I take my world started spinning again and I was thinking how we can get this in the same three verses came back to me and I felt a lot better call the billing department at the hospital and said yeah I asked you to check her win the right place and do I have two deductibles one in November and the mama policy renews in December and they said were sorry we got bad and worse news you got two deductibles one this month. One next month you going to have to relocate to Duke Hospital. Why told my wife there telling us what you have to relocate. They don't have an agreement here as she says you don't understand your daughter feels comfortable with these nurses. We feel comfortable with these doctors, we can almost see our church steeple out the window with our families here were going to stay. I said darlin' you don't understand this could be a $700,000 medical bill.
If we stay they don't owe anything.
And if we get it do they going to pay most of she says no you don't understand. This is where we are supposed to be in the whole world started spinning again as I started walking out of the hospital. The same three verses can assure you this is awesome I can't wait to hear the end of demo will be back right after the commercial you listen to Chris Kardashian good morning ladies and gentlemen, sorry guys show call a while ago and then the periods that this I didn't see the color color. If you give us a call back would try to get you on their sorry about that. We left it was in the middle of a really touching stories of you and let you finish it. Well I got my office. The phone rang and a good friend of mine was on the other hand, and he said how are you doing and I told him that I would just check my daughter into the printer. It Baptist Hospital and she had leukemia health insurance company was to pay anything we going to have to move to German get my daughter through the program.
They are pieces, not you understand, VP, health insurance, yes David, I know that he says write this down. Single case patient negotiation to put what do with that. He says well if the hospital or the health insurance company asked if there's anything they can do for you. You tell them to go look up what a single case. Patient negotiation is the probably won't know, but it's possible if both agree for them to be able to let her stay at the hospital possible. Thank you very much. Email popped up in front of me and the young lady I talked to it sent me an email as she says that we want you to understand that yet.
For the first round of treatment for the first week she will be fine you going to have to relocate the Duke and I looked in the email was her last name and first first initial Celtic net.com I said Lord have mercy could email be that simple. I call the library and I said I want the president's name is Celtic insurance and I prayed and I type. I attached a letter they came back and they said Delhi J at Celtic so I sent an email to Delhi J Celtic net.com I prayed over the email that I hit the send button will get to the hospital and it's really nice situation.
You gotta go through one little area that's got a place to scrub up like a surgeon than you put on a special grant, then your into the room with your your patient is and they got this nice sofa that folds out so mama can sleep on it might four dollars just about as green as she can be just that one up doing the chemo entered. I'm sitting there thinking what the world we can do the same three verses come back.
I feel better the next morning at 9 AM. I'm in my office and the phone rings.
This gentleman says, pardon me, I'm the VP in charge a set of claims at Celtic insurance.
I was having breakfast with the president of the company and he asked me to call and see if there was anything we can do for your family but I need you to understand the wrong hospital, we don't have a contract. There's no way that we can stay there. I civil sir. Did I hear you correctly, the president of the company asked you to call to see if there is anything you could do for us. He says yes or did you have a pencil and a piece paper and I told him about the single case patient negotiation.
There's a long dead silent aces well will have to look into the wet lawn. The short, we got to stay. They worked out an arrangement we got to stay.
We had 1/7 months of treatment, my daughter had told the doctor I want to graduate with my seventh grade class. I don't know about you fellas but I work my high school graduation. The concept to go into seventh grade graduation was not on my radar screen. Will the doctor explained to her that you going to go through some chemo treatments and we can give you some medicine to turn your buns off and because the bones are off you going to get sick would have to help you get better once you get better in the bone start working were hoping that they will do with their supposed to do, but if everything worked perfectly.
You going to be in the middle your last treatment by graduation and it's just not at my redheaded daughter said I'm going to go to my high school where a much seventh grade graduation when he threw his hands up and said yes. Well, we had a special program, we lived close. Everything went well.
Then let us go home with her head normally let anybody go home with the idea that we would get tested and we check back in. The idea was that she would get three or four days during the treatment where she was in her uncomfortable wealth of the entire process. She only got sick one and it just flew by and we got to the second to the last round of treatment and I gave her this little mild maintenance treatment is just supposed to be to get her through it. It just kicked her for as it turned green, I mean it was is tough on her body is the first round was they came in and they said you know we normally don't do this, we very rarely do this because when we make it adjustments to the treatment protocol. It opens us up all kinds of problems if things don't work but because your body reacted so strong for this round of chemo we've decided to cut out the last round of chemo all the since she got out a week before graduation ship kept up with her grades. She got to go to that seventh grade graduation. Why asked the doctor I said yeah I just wanted to know when was the last time you saw positive test for cancer pieces. Funny you asked that question I had the same question this morning.
I had them look it up to you head to positive test from your pediatrician yet for positive test from the hospital and we actually have never seen a positive test since those first I said you mean were asking for a bone mirrored match that we didn't need a bone marrow match God. It already healed her pieces. I don't know if I can go that far, but I can tell you that we didn't have a pause. What would've happened if we had a match pieces will we would have given her a bone marrow transplant she would have forever been on a very expensive bone marrow antirejection drug you to been six months here then you to been six months. Inpatient bed eddo Duke six months. Outpatient due in six months back here, you me when I was praying for a bone marrow match.
It the best we would've expected would've been two years worth of treatment in the hospital and then forever in antirejection drug pieces year is God's way had us finished in seven months and the neat thing was some of you know about victory junction will victory junction was brand-new.
She got to be one of the very first campers. The very first month that I open as she loved it so much.
They invited her back to be a can't count and they opened the new camp in Tennessee called Camp for courageous kids so she got to go and help set up that camp, she decided she wanted to go to UNCG and be a child life specialist which would've allowed her to run one of those camps or work in a hospital will when she got to the end of her college. She had to do an internship in the Chapel Hill Children's Hospital. Let her come for the internship as she would work with the kids and should figure out a way to keep them entertained and feel better about the experience and they said we would like to have a program for the surgery department when the kids come in for surgery if they feel more comfortable and safe.
Then there's a good chance will use less anesthesia and things will she got to design her own program and has been working at the Children's Hospital in the surgery department at Chapel Hill, but in many and I wouldn't wish it on anybody but in many, many, many ways.
That turned out to be one of the most powerful and wonderful things that ever happened. Our family and in the beginning. Lord have mercy. I couldn't see how we would make it through.
I certainly didn't know how we were going to get through staying in a hospital where we will not going to have any help from our health insurance is pretty amazing brother. Not only did you probably have doubts about being able to get the insurance worked out you had other people telling you that it couldn't work out, but still you can't make in your efforts in the you just try and you Try you believe, then the proof it worked out got a have a little scripture tucked away. I'm a firm believer that God speaks to us more often that scripture that pops up in those difficult times, and if you don't take the time it took away some Scripture. The you love and speaks to you. It makes it a lot harder for God to speak to you in this difficult actuation is amazing stuff. I couldn't help when he is talking about your daughter Erin and her struggles and everything it just really really really rang my bell.
I didn't know how I would go how I would live life without Rob and there was a Rob is. Oh well. Rob is my son at the that passed away. He died of an overdose.
January 9, 109 2014 and he was just huge huge huge part of my life.
He was my business partner.
My racecar driver. My best friend just huge huge huge part of my life. My retirement plan this so many things hinged on him, but the one he left. I didn't know if I would be able to carry on life without it and a lot of people have doubts about whether Bob would make it without them. I was able to carry out if this just decided I would try decided I would try will be right back after the break. With more things that we call this also Rob Lyons not John Waterloo Iowa whose calling back in suburbia.
The bright Jesus body is missing John from Waterloo I will come back and get them on their John you witness good morning. Sorry I missed you on your first Kyle on one your you want an exact live in my world, not I was about 10 years ago we out old Dodge Caravan.
All my life like 90 going north but pretty good, but the dollars will work pretty. Not know what to do. I'm not a mechanic so law buckle down and started taking things out start to part. I had to bolster involvement in the floor and wall the whole summer drug together with Barbara Todd Riggs Anyway, a lot of you to go to work Monday morning body and I recall him in and out of the van five times, but it looked the wall who learned a lot about gender.
I'll come again. You're about 51 W.
God never gave us the spirit of Laura Piersall.
I made it through and she got to work by Monday morning brought my questionnaires I got old truck. I got a February 3 51 shop to get your gun and all smoke smoke no I don't know what he did some carburetor work with Dr. Bob never small before you know it don't you are questionable you didn't have an issue before you send it. And since, do you know what he did and what color is your smoke we determine a lot of things about an engine and you do have their job that part of your chart.
Do you have you had that old's mail to the blues. My right yeah well there's not many things he could've done working on the carburetor to make that start to make that start smoking it may just be one of those coincidences.
You know the all smoke almost all the time is a reading issue down in the block. The rings that go around the Pistons now. I've had things happen where somebody mail over revved one or something like that and sometimes you can actually break a ring, but most of the time if it's mild blue smoke it. It's it's just where entire on those rings and some of the some of the oil is getting past the rings and up into the compression chamber rocks actually burn in the hall but it was if it was it's not ECS at 351 so it's not a diesel. Sometimes it the diesels can plug in a fashion that makes you think it's the Italy Asa make you think it's an all smart because that's what my truck was when I had to change the injection pump will all right right there.
351 wouldn't be as soon as I thought of that the that you said it was a 351 that's definitely a gas burner. I'm not exactly sure, but the jacket (fourth duplexer plate not cluster well now you did that, he could've the time to do anything with the ninja but almost.
When you sent it back far and I'm wondering if you taken aback for him to check and see if maybe these adjuster called bread a lot of times you just begin be just morning to rich you think your hitting all smoke is just burning to rich on all your partner will all well okay within get Jack got a rear main seal, there could've been needing to be replaced and you really don't know that that's where you repair specially Bob will tell you this for you.
Repair anything with an engine or any type of running gear that has lubricant involved in it but doesn't repair something and then your calls you up an issue will creep up that had nothing to do with it.
It was just lingering there but just because you run your fluid through and you cleaned everything out that all pop up out of seemingly nowhere all you have access to the Internet. Yeah, you can probably go on Robbie's website. Christian car guy.com and sometimes there are additives that help with mild mild situations like this, but if it's severe afraid the knees might not great what you can do on that what always suggest to be going to a parts auto parts supplier that that sales to mechanics. You know in your area and just talk to him because they also know what the best added for use because there's a lot of them out there on the market and I would know exactly which would be the best but I would run it by them because they know what they're selling tech to the mechanics and people walking in there getting feedback from people that fusionists will be my first stop positron additive will brother thank you all know I was afraid to bring it back to Dr. all I thought maybe you know trying to get me to come Well he would be my first stop just just to see what he thought it was in the you know he he may have an answer for you that the you know because he's been in there with the vehicle and everything and I he knows what it was doing when he got it. You'll see what it's like now. I will work on your Dragon. You cannot just upgrade comparably right and get something done. No, like with the steering column.
Our Lord was to start need to be tightened up on her steering column but yet it tickles doing all model in order to do it but I'm going to work on myself but I don't do any persons or wrangling are The internals of the engine is past my realm of capability, even though my best day is how do I go back to where they did the repairs and may be something simple.
Or maybe a vacuum line in think caused burn more often than just peasant. Take a look at it and maybe a simple repair before I went spinning the money are pretty additives the end and then after that there is an and asked that I go to my local parts supplier. Thank thank you for the call brother.
We really present great day.
