Very chill open to the program. It's the Adam Gold Show. I am him.

Dennis Cox on the ones and twos. It's been a Monday already. You weren't here yet. Right.

But things here in this studio. What happened? We're not working. Oh, really? Oh, no. Not working at all.

Everything pretty much had to be shut down, reset multiple times. Did we blame anybody? Yes. Who did we blame? Everyone. Okay.

Everyone was blamed. Well, our friends. Are we passing around? Very nice. Our friends at one of our music stations here. Right.

Actually had to play music from a CD this morning. What? Yes. Oh, my gosh. Yeah. That was the that's where we were earlier today.

Oh, my God. Hey, we're here now. That's what matters from a CD. What was the last time you popped the CD in? Actually, not that long ago. Really? Yeah. I was CD player in my car.

Well, yeah, I do as well. I haven't I'm afraid to use it. I'm afraid to put a CD in there and not get it out.

It happens because it's been a good three years since I've used the CD player. I actually here in the station, I found a now seventy eight copy because, you know, like the now I think the current music that's going on. Sure. So now seventy eight. Now seventy nine. I found them here in the studios, a stack of them. I asked somebody like, OK, if I just take one, they're like a lot of Bachman Turner overdrive on there.

What is known now? It was like stuff from like twenty twenty like hits. OK, OK. I'm sorry. I thought seventy eight or seventy nine was a year. No, no, no. That was like the number. Oh, OK. Yeah.

Like now one had like the Hanson Brothers and stuff on. Yeah. Oh, gosh. Really?

That's exactly what I actually use it about like six months ago. But they had to do that this one. So it's been a Monday already. All right. Well, that's why, you know, I play a little chill music because, you know, good vibes got to put it out there. We need we need good vibes. We're on television.

Hi, everyone. You can watch us at Channel thirty four point one of using an antenna and are close to the WRL TV five listening area viewing area. Also, Spectrum Channel twelve fifty seven. Anywhere on the globe and around the globe at fire, Roku, Android or Apple TV, WRL sports plus app. You can find us there.

Of course, WRL sports fan dot com and follow us on Twitter at a gold fan at the fan rookie. As a matter of fact, if you go to the the interwebs right now, you can vote in our pool. I'm sorry, poll that to where you can tell us what we're going to talk about at one o'clock. We'll give you the the choices. Plus, you can always write in a choice of your own. Dennis is apparently going to write one in, even though he put the poll up. Yeah. Well, the topics were mutual. I'm just I'm just saying that has put the poll up and he is right.

Writing in a suggestion. That's fine. Maybe there's a lot more than just four.

We always put four choices up for you. All right. Let's crank this sucker up. Yes. Pardon me while I answer a quick text. All right. Let's excuse me.

Let's start. Draymond Green looked to dish it low instead. Finds curry on the right.

Rises contested three. It's good. I fire that way too early. It's Monday. Everything's not work. It works.

Well, we'll use it. I guess Steve Kerr was right. Yeah. Steph Curry would be okay for game four. He just said he would play. He didn't tell us that Steph Curry would go for 43 and 10 rebounds. 43 points, 10 rebounds. You called a double double.

Yeah. I didn't expect rebounds, although it was the second double figure rebounding game in the playoffs. He got 12 rebounds early in the series against Dallas. Of course, at least seven of the 10 rebounds for Curry bounced. So the when he got the tenth one, I went, yes, plus 800. Unreal.

Absolutely unreal. Gambling is dumb. Don't do it. Although we're going to talk gambling and why I want you to be able to do it, even if I don't want you to do it, I want you to have the the the option to do it. We'll talk about that a little bit later on.

Anyway, step 43 and 10. Look, they're already having conversations about should Steph Curry be the MVP of the finals, even if Golden State loses? No, no, we got to stop.

First of all, why can't why? Let's have the conversation at the end. Yeah, when the finals are done, it's over. Let's have it then. Let's not have it now. Let's have it when we get there.

What's the rush? Like that, we can't have it then because we've already had it and all the takes will be old. Stop it, people. Because if Jason Tatum goes bonkers in games five and six, it'll be Jason Tatum. Or if Jalen Brown does, it'll be Jalen Brown.

Or if it's Marcus Smart, it'll be more. I shouldn't get worked up over. And I'm not even blaming TV. It's really media stupid and a really good back and forth with our friend, Kanata Edwards, not of the scribe on Twitter, because we're having these, well, Steph has to carry his team to a title by himself so he can get mentioned with the all-time greats.

What is wrong with people? And I mean, my initial reaction is people watching too much ESPN. Yeah, because that's where we get all of these.

But the truth is, is that it's not. It's sort of us. Here's what we do. We want people to be engaged with what we do right on this show and other other sports radio shows. It's all about getting you to interact with us in some way, shape or form. Some shows take calls. We don't do it as much.

Some shows, you know, use social media, whiner lines, whatever, however it is you want to interact with the host. You know, that's that's fair. So in order to get people to do that, we need to be provocative. So it has to be this is the best this. This is the best this. No, he's not as good as this. He's not as good as that. Rather than like it's it's hokey to just celebrate someone's greatness. We have to celebrate someone's greatness or anti-greatness through comparing to somebody else.

In other words, we can't elevate something without without like denigrating something else. And it's really all of our faults. It's not just I can't blame Stephen A. Smith for that. Right.

Even if he's even if they put it on steroids. But yeah, we just can't. Steph Curry is an all-time great.

Here's the thing. And I tried very hard to not make this a negative on Kevin Durant. Durant could not drag Brooklyn past Boston in the first round. Matter of fact, they got swept. Of course, there were a lot of reasons for that. You know, they spent the entire season down one of their stars and Kyrie Irving hat for and then he finally showed up and was a part-time player for the second half of the year.

And then he was finally able to do it. But like they never figured out who they were. The Brooklyn Nets and then James Harden didn't want to be there like it was a mess and they lost Joe Harris and whatnot.

So that that team was just always going to be struggling uphill. And as it turned out in the first round of the playoffs after surviving the play-in tournament, they drew the Boston Celtics who as we're seeing now are probably the best team in the league. So that's no that's no, you know, checkmark against Kevin Durant. But we're seeing Steph Curry and Klay Thompson to a obviously lesser extent and Draymond Green to a lesser extent. Klay was pretty good by the way, and in game four wasn't great.

You didn't have to be great. Draymond had, you know, left a little bit to be desired. But my point is what we're seeing from really Curry is that yes, Kevin Durant was the MVP of those two back-to-back final runs and nobody is taking that away from Durant. And nobody is saying that Durant isn't one of the 10 or so greatest players to ever live.

Nobody's saying that. What we're seeing here is that Steph and his leadership, his ability to score the ball is among the greatest we have ever seen. So Curry is elevating to a place where only the greatest of the greats can go. So does he have to win a title being that guy? I mean, yeah, if we're putting him in the Jordan Lebron category, right? Maybe, but I mean Curry is still, again, he's right there with Durant and I said this a couple weeks ago, I think we're finding out that while Durant won the MVPs that it really was about the core of that team. Maybe they wouldn't have won both titles, but it was really about the core of that team and that Durant just took that to a level that nobody could touch because of Durant's overall greatness. We're not downplaying somebody else to elevate another and that seems like the only thing that people want to do.

It's like if I say this guy's great, that must mean I think this guy stinks and that's just not the case. Adam Gold in studio with my man Coach Pete DeRuder with the Capital Financial Advisory Group. We are talking retirement. Coach, let's say I have more than a million dollar balance in my 401k. Congratulations.

Thank you very much. How can that actually come back and bite me? Well, because, and this is a thing that we, it's a mirage.

You see mirages, I've written in the desert before, you see what's water ahead, but it's not there. Well, your financial mirage is thinking that that total balance in your 401k or your IRA is yours. We have two people that want to get ahold of it, two uncles, Uncle North Carolina and Uncle Sam. Both of them are going to do some damage to that balance depending on what kind of other income you have. You could lose 40% of your value.

So if you're looking at a million dollar IRA, maybe it's only worth $600,000 to you. So how do we get around this? Well, you don't get around it because you end up in jail if you try to do that. But you can do tax planning to minimize the effect of taxation into the future. The tax train is coming, Adam. We need to make sure to minimize the effect of the derailment of our financial accounts. And for the next 10 people, we'll do it at no cost or obligation.

We'll put together your very own tax and retirement plan. 800-661-7383 or text ADAM to 21000 for coach Pete DeRuta. Back to Klay Thompson. Good enough. 18 points, right? 7 of 17 shooting, 4 of 10 from 3. But he hits the 3 that puts Golden State ahead for good.

And it was a typical Klay Thompson pass right where it needed to be, drilled. Now, according to Curry, they could just get Draymond Green going again. It'll be all good. He understands. Like I said, that's that championship DNA.

We've been around this situation before. We know how to kind of compartmentalize all the emotions that you go through and the focus on what happens on the court. But for him and for us, like deep, you go into a series, all those adjustments, usually ones with the highest IQ figures it out. And if you're betting on that, Draymond is at the top of the list. So I'm excited to see what he does in game five.

I mean, I don't know, man. Draymond has not been good. He has not been good in the playoffs, in the finals. It just whoever he's guarding seems to have a step on him or size on him.

Right. It's just been it's been a difficult matchup for Draymond. But, you know, he's one of the elite figure it outers in the NBA.

I don't even know what to call him, but he'll he'll figure it out. And he did play well down the stretch. He made some good. He had a couple of assists down the stretch and he certainly was good enough on the defensive end late. Did Boston score with in the last four minutes of the game or something like that? I mean, they might have had a point a couple of points very much.

But I mean, they went from up five to down ten. I mean, it was just an incredible finish by the Warriors. Jason Tatum, Jalen Brown, Marcus Smart each went for double figures, but it took them all too many shots. Very inefficient for Boston and Smart knows that, you know, offense is great, but they also know where their bread is buttered. Listen, you tip your hat off to him.

He's a great player and he will did his team that night. You know, we had some plays and miscues that that helped. But, you know, you give the credit to order where it is deserved. And they came out and, you know, they hit us in the mouth. And obviously, we know we do when our backs are against the wall. But definitely growth is definitely growth. We understand what we have to do. It's just going out there and doing it. Yeah, and it's sometimes the other team also understands what you understand. Yeah.

That is the game of adjustments. They know what you're by this time in the series. No secrets.

No secrets. Real quick. Must win for Golden State or Boston tonight? Golden State. Yes.

Yes. I don't think we're getting Game 7. I think if Golden State wins tonight, Boston will win Game 6 and we will have a Game 7. I think if Boston wins tonight, we'll be done on, what is it, Thursday night, right? Thursday night?

Yes. Look, it is necessitated out-of-body stuff for Golden State. Max, max effort for Golden State to be 2-2. And I'm not saying that Boston hasn't put out max effort. I just think that it looks like things, at least offensively, come a little bit easier to Boston. They don't have Steph Curry. We're legitimately talking about one of the all-timers in Steph Curry.

So Game 5 tonight at 9 o'clock. And right here on the radio, by the way, if you're listening in Raleigh, and maybe where you are. Who is it? Al Roker says now, but he used to be, was it the guy from the Today show? Yeah.

Willard Scott in your neck of the woods, wherever that is. Alright. Off of the crossbar, and the Hurricanes have won the Stanley Cup. June 19th, 2006. But it all started May 6th, 1997, with the announcement that the Hartford Whalers were coming to North Carolina.

It's a story of transition, of heartbreak, of figuring it out on the fly. The Canes Corner look at the 25th anniversary of the move. Presented by the Aluminum Company of North Carolina. Listen now, find Canes' 25th anniversary wherever you get your podcasts. The 1-2 to Campbell. Fly ball, right field, in the corner. And that's a hit, off the wall. Ball game is over. ECU was so close. I know. So close.

Mmm, that was from Saturday. Yep. This hurt. It hurt to watch.

I know. It hurt Pirate baseball fans. 7-2 lead heading to the bottom of the 7th in Game 2. After winning Game 1, you're 9 outs from Omaha. Actually, you were 7 outs from Omaha.

Because you got the first 2 outs in the 7th. 2 out double, 2 run, Pop Fly home run to right field. That was, like, it really hurt because there were some cheap home runs hit.

Yes, I know, wind was blowing out. Pop Fly home run, made it 7-4. Then in the 8th, single, infield single, another Pop Fly home run. It's 7-7, nobody out in the 8th. One out later, another Pop Fly home run to right. Gave the Longhorns an 8-7 lead. But the Pirates, they're no quit. And them, they were not done.

They're down to their last out. Jacob Starling hit a legitimate home run, an absolute pole job clout. The only question was, would it stay fair? It did. 8-8. Alas, you heard the game-winning hit with the bases loaded in 2 outs in the 9th. It forced game 3.

Pirates were never in it. They gave up 4 runs. Then it rained for, like, 17 hours. Yeah. They should never have started the game.

Honestly, they should have played the game today. Yeah. You know, look, NC State fans can empathize with that. Yeah.

They can empathize with that. But, just awful, absolutely awful to even start the game. In Chapel Hill, quieter, but the same fate.

Mm-hmm. Arkansas holds the Tar Heels offense to just 4 runs in 18 innings after UNC scored 50 runs in 5 games. They scored 50 runs in 5 games. Carolina's offense has been prolific and Arkansas just shut them down. Still, UNC takes a 3-2 lead after rallying in the 9th inning and then in the bottom of the 9th.

Do we have the depressing final highlight? Yeah. Arkansas says they've got one trip left. Base hit! Arkansas is headed back to Omaha! Yeah.

This sucks. Yeah, I was watching that game and saw UNC take the lead there in the top of the 9th and guys who weren't regulars in the lineup. Mm-hmm.

They were deep in there. Yeah, the guy that was playing 2nd base that they put in had 4 hits on the season. 4 drives in a go-ahead run. I was like, are we serious?

Is this really happening here? And then, obviously, what happened in the 9th happened in the 9th. I feel bad for the Tar Heels. They had a great year.

But, look, both programs had a great year. So, only 8 teams make it to Omaha. Man, East Carolina was so close. Number 1 team. Tennessee got knocked out. By Notre Dame.

Yeah. The only ACC team left standing, I believe. Yeah, because Virginia Tech got eliminated by Oklahoma.

Okay. Well, they got. Virginia Tech scored a bunch of runs in Game 2. But, Oklahoma did it to them. Did it to them early in Game 3.

Alright, cooler sport. The center's one for Stan Koesch. And a brilliant save and then a score. Stan Koesch as Tampa Bay comes right back to take a 2-1 lead. Stanley Cup Finals starts Wednesday in Denver. The Avalanche with home ice advantage over the two-time defending champion, Lightning, who are like vampires.

Beat the Rangers in 6 after dropping the first 2 and falling behind 2-0 in the second period of Game 3. And you can see them rubbing their hands like, ha ha ha ha. Right where we want them.

My pretty. Right where we want them. Oh, man, Lightning went up 1-0 on a Stephen Stamkos goal midway through the second. Then in the third period, Stamkos was sent off for apparently causing Alexi Lafreniere to dive to the ice. Boy, the Rangers dive a lot.

Is embellishment a penalty anymore? Allegedly. I'm just curious. I just need to know.

Because if it isn't, then we can cross it off the possibles. Steve Vitrano scored off a faceoff to make it 1-1 with less than 7 minutes left in regulation. 23 seconds later. Stamkos off a feed from Nikita Kucherov, who I believe assisted on every goal in the playoffs. Even games he wasn't playing in. Yeah. Every single time.

That guy's just. And Stamkos has been amazing, too. Anyway, the goal was, the initial shot was stopped by Shostakin, but he couldn't gather the rebound. It came out and caromed off Stamkos' leg as he was skating in front of the crease. And then went through.

They complained. They argued that it was kicked in. It definitely was not kicked in. It went off his pants leg.

Off like it was above the knee, I believe it hit when it went in. Amazing stuff. Final start on Wednesday. Cannot wait. That should be a fun series. Yeah.

My quick read on it and maybe we'll talk about it later, certainly if the people want. I think the Avalanche are going to have to score 3-4 goals a game to win. Yeah. I mean, the Lightning want to keep this kind of close to the vest. Especially without Brayden Point.

And we don't know. Brayden Point's been skating, so he might be able to come back at some point during the finals. But, I just don't think the Avalanche have good enough goaltending to keep Tampa from getting 2, 3, maybe even 4. I think the Avalanche are going to have to score some goals. And early in series, I mean Andrei Vasilevski has allowed some goals. Later in series, not so much. By the way, did you see what the stat before the game was? Before the game. In closeout games, Vasilevski was 7-0. Oh. With a 0.14 goals against and a 995 save percentage.

I'm sorry, 0.14? Forget about the goals against! 995 save percentage. 199 saves, 200 shots. 1 goal in 200 shots in his last 7 closeout games. Goodness. The Rangers are way ahead of the game. They scored a goal. Goodness.

That is the stupidest statistic I have ever seen in any sport anywhere. Absolutely bonkers. Alright. How is that legal? It's not.

It's not. Great weekend on the PGA Tour. You gotta hear this in a second. It's just a great weekend on the PGA Tour. Charles Schwartzl was holding off a hard charging Henny de Plessis to claim the inaugural live series event outside of London. Riveting duel between the 126th and 133rd ranked players in the world with number 123 Brandon Grace finishing third and American Peter Uline number 327 in fourth. Yeah. Who?

Yes. Meanwhile, outside Toronto at the Canadian Open it was Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Tony Finau waging battle, McIlroy birdied his last two to close out an eight under par 62, which he needed, and a two shot win and then flexed with Amanda Renner on CBS on the final green. It's incredible. You know, playing with Tony and JT today, two of the top players in the world and all of us playing the way we did. I mean, I think the worst score of the group was whatever, six under par. Yeah, this is the day I'll remember for a long, long time. 21st PGA Tour win, one more than someone else.

That gave me a little bit of extra incentive today and I'm happy to get it done. From the top rope right on Greg Norman's head. Excuse me, I spit. I mean, good on you, Rory. Good on you. Good on you, that was phenomenal. I mean, in the press conference after, he went into more detail and he explained what he meant, but I mean, look, I grew up, I mean, I've always been a Greg Norman fan, the Greg Norman the golfer, not this Greg Norman, this Greg Norman the shill, but Greg Norman the golfer, I was a huge Norman fan. He has like 90 worldwide wins, but man, McElroy just, I mean, what an evisceration that was. That was so beautiful.
