The ACC is still intact! The major question going into ACC Football Media Days will be about the future of the conference, and if teams will be able to get out of the Grant of Rights that locks in each of the schools' media rights money through 2036.

Plus, people around the NFL think that Lamar Jackson isn't a top-10 QB in the NFL.

Visit us at capitalfinancialusa.com. This is the Adam Gold Show. I kind of think they're done. They've got more teenagers to sign.

Ethan Bear went to arbitration. Who knows what's going to happen there? But I kind of think that they're done. I think they believe that they're going to re-sign Bear, re-sign Neches, and see in training camp. Yeah, I could see maybe a couple tiny, small moves here and there.

Like, again, moving Jake Gardner's contracts I think is something that they could do. If there's a veteran, cheap defenseman like Brendan Smith was last season that can play on that third pair? We'll see. We shall see. Otherwise they have all the right-handed shots in the league, which to me actually makes those assets in my opinion.

Because people just need right-handed shooters. If any of them are good. Alright, we'll get to that in an hour with Corey Lavelette of North Stage Journal. What we do at 1 o'clock is that we allow you to decide what we are going to discuss. Dennis puts out a poll, we give you four options, and you tell us where to go. Alright, so very, very close wagering. We'll start at the bottom. These were the four options. NFL training camp.

Only 10% of you were moved by NFL training camp. Home run derby came in third. Probably going to get to that. It's the best of all of the skills competitions, if you will, of the four major sports.

The open championship came in second. I might skip that. I'm not kidding.

Will brought it up. It's a little raw for me. You are like legit physically hurt by this. Can I just tell you that the outcomes of games don't bother me at all. One way or the other. Doesn't bother me.

I mean, I've had these conversations with people. There are only three teams that I really root for anymore. Only three. I root for the Mets. I root for the Hurricanes. I root for Liverpool. That's it. Anybody else?

I'm like a fan of players or the game itself. I don't really root. That was supposed to be Rory's open. It was supposed to be his. And it would have been the best, the most fitting winner. I'm not knocking Cam Smith. He was awesome. Cam Smith, a very deserving open champion. But man, that was Rory's to win.

Or lose. All right, maybe we'll get to it. All right, and the number one it number one response. The ACC has anyone left or is anyone left? All right, so let's discuss this because we're in a doomsday clock still reads 1154.

Does it really? We hit midnight. We're done. Oh, man.

We had to stop the doomsday clock. Here's the thing. We always get, I've mentioned this yet last week. But if anybody wants to talk about this, I'm good with it.

919-860-5326, 919-860-5326. It will be the number one topic of discussion. You know how like everything in golf right now surrounds live, right? I'm not going to talk about it right now. But down in Charlotte for ACC football kickoff, we're not going to spend a ton of time talking about, hey state might have a great year.

I mean, there'll be some of it. But it's going to be your move, Jim Phillips. What is Jim Phillips going to do? What is the ACC going to do? How does the ACC get to year 70?

I mean, it turns 70 on May 8th, I think. I mean, are we going to get, are we going to finish out the year? Or will the league splinter?

I said this last week. We get so reactionary and overextended in this conversation because there is a shot of adrenaline that happens when Southern Cal and UCLA jump to the Big Ten. I mean, it's unexpected. It seems out of place because Los Angeles and the Big Ten don't seem like a good fit. But then again, Maryland and New Jersey don't seem like part of the Big Ten either, right?

But it is what it is. We no longer, it doesn't matter anymore where you're located. And it hasn't mattered for more than a decade where you're located. The truth is, is that Boston and Miami probably shouldn't be in the same league either if we're just talking about mileage. But Arizona State and Washington State have been in the same conference. And there's got to be 2,400 miles between those two schools. West Virginia and Texas are in the same conference right now.

Yeah. Geography hasn't mattered in such a long time. That shouldn't bother anybody.

So that doesn't move me one way or the other. But it happened last year. Last year at Operation Football was when Texas and Oklahoma announced that they were moving. That's right. That was a big thing there. It was an enormous thing. And it shook up day two.

Everybody had to react to that. So now we've had two weeks. Has it been two weeks? Three weeks since Southern Cal and UCLA left? By the way, it's probably a done deal. But the governor of California, who's on the University System Board of Regents, has said that they might block UCLA, state school. They might block UCLA from leaving. In which case the Big Ten will go, okay, we'll take Stanford. All they really want is Southern Cal. They don't care about UCLA. All they really want is Southern Cal. So they could take Stanford and then they would be able to say, well, you know, academics.

Of course, of course. But we react to what happens and then we go, oh my gosh, how is the ACC going to survive? And smart people have thought ahead how to keep the ACC together. And when Maryland left, because they were going to get paid from the Big Ten, the ACC got a grant of rights. And yes, it is the same grant of rights as the Big 12 signed.

But there's way more money involved and way longer a time to deal with. And Oklahoma and Texas aren't going to move to the SEC until that television deal is up. So it's not going to cost them grant of rights. You're just going to stick it out until it's over and then move. But the ACC's TV deal is until 2036. So if grant of rights has legal merit, nobody's leaving.

Nobody. I mean, could you negotiate your way out? Sure. But it would be cost prohibitive over the next 10 years to do so. So I just don't see anybody doing it unless they're convinced that it is not legally binding.

In which case, somebody screwed up when they put it together. So I don't think the ACC is going anywhere. I also don't think there's anybody out there for the ACC to add Not Name Notre Dame that moves the needle, that gets ESPN to give you more money to the point where you can cover all the other schools. So I don't think the ACC is going to add Oregon and Washington to the mix. I don't know if you saw Pat Forti's column.

He wrote for SI last week. He did value football properties, essentially. Value programs, not just football, because he included other sports, all sports. And actually, Oregon and Washington showed up in his top 20 of power five. But I read that and I feel like it's by and large, it's kind of.

To me, it's by and large short sighted. I know Duke doesn't have a football value, but they have value. So I think Duke came in at number 60 or number 50 or something like that. I think they have better value than that.

The truth of the matter is that there are so few properties out there that really do matter. Like the four that moved in the last two years, or at least announced moves, those matter. Texas, Oklahoma, and actually Oklahoma doesn't really matter if it's not with Texas. The SEC would not have just taken Oklahoma, right?

They wouldn't have done that. But then Texan, Oklahoma, Southern Cal, and whoever is coming with Southern Cal doesn't have to be UCLA. Probably will be, but it doesn't have to be. Just nobody else out there that moves anybody except Notre Dame. So if the ACC can convince Notre Dame to join the league, then the ACC will be, you know, in the neighborhood of a 65 to $70 million annual league. And they'll probably be able to renegotiate with ESPN and they'll get a, and they could even allow Notre Dame to get, have their own TV deal for the home games.

They can do that, which is probably what they would have to do. Elvis in Apex, what's going on Elvis? Hey Adam, what's up man? On this ACC topic, I'm doing good buddy. On this ACC topic, I said, so I'm a state grad, I said many years ago, we need to bolt. We need to bolt for the SEC, for the money, for the exposure, for being the first North Carolina team signed up for that league. And it's only going to bolster the program. That's my opinion.

I know I'll probably make a lot of state fans angry, but it's, to me, that was the outlet. And now I'm worried that we've missed the window. So it's a bit frustrating because I do see this thing eventually breaking up and where do we go from there? I just wish we could have done this many, many years ago. I know legislation would get involved, all of that, but I just feel like that was something we should have pushed for years ago.

At least one question, maybe more. It is a two-way street. You just don't get in line. It's not like getting into, I don't even know the name of a bar anymore in Raleigh or Apex.

It's not like getting in line at a club and you're just waiting for your turn. So if the SEC was going to push to get into North Carolina, no offense, is that where they would have gone first? Yeah. So they probably would have gone to UNC first.

The SEC, what they don't need is any more good football playing schools, although state and Carolina are about the same. So I understand what you're saying. It's just a two-way street. It's actually a one-way street because the money that they're offering, nobody, again, I hate to keep bringing it up.

It's sort of like live golf. Nobody's turning down that money. Maryland left. Maryland threw away 60 years of relationship and culture for cash, completely threw it away. It hurt me as an alum because I remember what it was like to go to Cole Fieldhouse and watch Carolina come in or watch Duke come in. Heck, the games against State and Georgia Tech, those were awesome events. And there's just no way, no way that Ohio State at Maryland basketball does anything. Honestly, I have no feeling about a Maryland-Michigan football game other than, hey, cool, Michigan's here. Maryland lost by 40.

That's great. They just can't compete there. So they threw away all that for cash. State would do it. They would throw away the relationship for money.

But at what point does going four and five every year? Well, here's my argument to that, Adam, is, I mean, okay, I hear your points. And you're right.

It is a one-way street. So we'd have to get the invite. And did they really want us over another team?

But as far as, and I've heard this argument for many people when I've discussed it with my buddies in the past. We're going to go there and we're just going to struggle and maybe win two, three games a year. Okay. When's the last time we won a football ACC championship? 79. When's the last time we won a basketball?

89. So would you rather have a chance to grow that program, build that program? A lot of, you think about all the North Carolina football guys that have left the state. If we're the only school there and you're saying, Hey, we got Alabama lined up this year.

We've got, you know, whoever LSU lined up next year. I just feel like you're going to build that program and eventually compete. That's just my opinion.

Maybe I'm, I mean, I think that's, that's a fair way of looking at it, right? I mean, ideally like Maryland doesn't believe that they're going to go three and six every year in the Big Ten. They don't believe that. And I'm sure that State doesn't believe that if they were in the SEC in a nine, you know, game conference schedule, they don't believe that they're going to go three and six every year. They don't. And I'm not saying that they should accept something like that. But the reality is that that's probably closer to what will happen than the other.

In the short term, I agree. I just feel like you, you have the chance. You had the chance. I don't know that you had the chance.

Well, you might be right. I'm not sure that anybody had the chance, but I'm, I'm, I'm pretty sure that nobody, that State didn't have the chance. Yeah. So if they were going to add, if they were going to add a school, like I think it would have been one that can like legit compete there. And that would have been a long time ago. It might've been Clemson or Florida State. Yeah. So Florida State for sure.

The, I didn't, I don't think they would have added Clemson just because of the whole South Carolina thing. Oh, they're, they're friends now. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. All right, man.

Elvis, take care. All right. I don't think it's as dire as a lot of people think, but again, I could be wrong. I just think that we get to this and we just, we overreact to everything. It's, it's not, it's not a game. It's not like fantasy sports.

It just isn't. It's not like fantasy. It's not like fantasy football. All we need, we need more rushing yards. So we just get a running back.

Like it's not, it's not fantasy football. We played conference risk. Did you see the video? I did. I was there for the whole thing. Yeah.

I actually don't hate real quick. I don't even remember. Oh, you're pushing me to break.

Dennis is pushing me to break. When we come back, we'll tell you the, my conference from our video with Joe Ovius and Joe Giglio. And really Lamar Jackson's not a top 10 quarterback in the league ESPN? Are you kidding? Next. Adam Gold here from my man coach Pete DeRuta with the Capital Financial Advisory Group. We are talking retirement.

All right, coach, simple. When do we start tax planning in retirement? We should start as soon as possible because here's one thing, Adam, taxes are not going away.

Right. And so the game here is we know the rules. A lot of people want to ignore the rules or act like they don't, aren't familiar with them, but the IRS knows the rules. And so when we get to retirement, they're going to reach in and start taking some of their money out of your accounts. So the secret here is to put a force field around as much as possible by strategically moving some of our money to Roth IRA or some of the other vehicles that aren't taxed, like special life insurance policies.

You can borrow against your money there and never have to pay tax on your money that you build up inside your cash value. So there are a lot of strategies here. The one strategy that does not work is ignoring it. So let's make sure to not ignore it. The next 10 people will do for you your very own tax and retirement plan that will help you minimize taxation all the way through retirement.

Eight hundred six six one seventy three eighty three. All you got is call or you can text Adam to two one zero zero zero for Coach Pete DeRuta. Wednesday and Thursday of this week, the show will come to you live from Charlotte, ACC football media days. Get prepared for the conference is either dying or the conference will be fine. Everybody will be either excited for the future or it'll be gloom and doom.

There will be no middle ground, but that'll be all Wednesday and Thursday. Home run derby tonight. And we also have the Major League Baseball All-Star game tomorrow. It was funny is that the last time we went to Charlotte last year for ACC football, it was going on the NBA Finals because it was later. I'm trying to remember which game it was. I think it was the clinching game when Milwaukee beat Phoenix to wrap it up. I'm pretty sure we were there that first night. Like the night before media day and the Bucks were wrapping up.

Yeah, it sounds like a title. It sounds about right because I remember where I watched game, whatever the final game. I think I was in the hotel when I watched. Yeah, the bar area was jam-packed at the Westin in Charlotte. That's where the headquarters are. It's not quite the circus that the SEC media days are.

Let me give you my my conference first. Yes, I wanted to do this for so there's a video out. The video Joe put together here, but it was Joe obvious his idea because Joe and I did this a long time ago back way back in the day. This is gosh, you are the fifth person fourth person in that chair. It's four producers ago. So say we did this.

No, it's for free Shannon. Oh, wow. Appreciate it.

I believe our old super producer Chris Morris was was here for this. All right, so we did a conference expansion draft and we use the same rules that they put up on YouTube yesterday. And it's or I guess it posted today and it's you pick a state and you can take your next pick of states must be touching a state that you already have claimed to. So I had the third pick and I took Texas first pick was Ohio Joe took OBS took Ohio. Jillio took Alabama. I took Texas. So my next pick had to be a state bordering Texas. So I went immediately to New Mexico kidding. I didn't I didn't take New Mexico never did. I think I took Louisiana next to LSU.

So anyway, here's my top to bottom. Here is my my conference. Tell me this conference wouldn't kick ass USC. Yeah, Oklahoma. Okay, LSU. Yeah, Texas A&M.

All right, Texas, Oregon, Arkansas, BYU, Arizona State, Colorado. Not bad. It's pretty good League.

Not bad. Pretty good League, you know, we're we're basically entirely in the central and western, you know, mid-mountain and western time zone. So yeah, but we own will own the 10 o'clock kickoff. They got kind of a PAC 12 big 12 combo there and five SEC teams.

Oh, if you're factoring in Texas and Oklahoma and LSU and Arkansas, that's right. What are you doing? Well, I mean, they're not there yet. Don't short me. Yeah, sure. Yeah, but they are gathered.

They're there will short me. So it's a man. I certainly think I did well. All right. Let me ask this question. Stop me when we have a quarterback. That Lamar Jackson today is better than okay. Aaron Rodgers. No. Patrick Mahomes. No. Josh Allen. No.

Tom Brady. No. I think it's close.

Yeah, I think it's close. They're so different incredibly different. So that's that's that's that's incredibly hard to judge two totally different guys. If Tom Brady had Lamar Jackson's talent, not not physically his talent, but the talent around Lamar Jackson. How good would Tom Brady be? Tom Brady.

He would still be no, he would be Tom Brady. Yeah, how successful would that team be with the weapons that aren't there? I'm confused by your like you talking about the Bucks. No, no, I'm talking about the Ravens. Yeah were carried by Lamar Jackson. Yeah, they had they were decimated by injuries to the running backs like at one point their running backs look like they were it was a fantasy team from seven years ago. Yeah, and their wide receivers are good tight ends, but that's basically it.

I mean it just had it they have not had great skill position players with Lamar Jackson. He's an MVP not only is a dual threat. He's an underrated thrower. Yeah, he's a legitimately great quarterback.

Now. He's different than the other guys. He's different than adjusted. How is Justin Herbert on this list over Lamar Jackson? How is Dak Prescott on this list over Jim Lamar Jackson? Like if you want to just say, you know Career Achievement Award Tom Brady's better than Lamar Jackson today fine. Whatever.

I'm not going to I'm not going to have the argument because it's pointless. But Jackson is no worse than fifth among quarterbacks today. No worse than fifth.

Everybody that's listed after Brady and I would actually put burrow over Brady right now. Okay, but whatever. Jackson is the guy who can drag his team drag his team. But when you don't have help and your offensive line is mediocre and you're hurt. Well, sure.

It's not it's not going to look as good. He was hurt all last year. He's hurt still play 12 games still put up incredible numbers. I just don't understand what and now this was a survey of no, this was ESPN's experts who all voted knows a survey that went out to NFL executives players coaches. So it was something that was sent out to the league by ESPN. So this is actually what people around the league right not just 50 League executives.

Yeah. I mean did they forget Lamar Jackson was around maybe I didn't forget that Deshaun Watson wasn't around. Because they had him in the top 10 speaking of Deshaun Watson. Real quick before we hit halftime. He is already planning with the support of the NFL Players Association to sue the NFL. If he is suspended, but for a full year.

Good luck. I mean, I just don't think legal action is your move now. I just don't think legal action is your move. But I could be wrong when it comes to the law. I just don't know now. I don't think he'll get suspended for the full year.

I don't I think we'll get suspended for about eight maybe 10 weeks. I don't think it'll be a full year but more power to you Deshaun more power to you. June 19th, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 with the announcement that the Hartford Whalers were coming to North Carolina.

It's a story of transition of heartbreak of figuring it out on the fly. The Canes Corner look at the 25th anniversary of the move presented by the Aluminum Company of North Carolina. Listen now find James 25th anniversary wherever you get your podcast. Can we are you trying to save that little nugget? You just told me off air or did you want to bring that up here? Oh, we can talk about right now. Yeah, I think it's worth bringing up. Actually, I would even use the breaking news sounder. Okay, I would use the breaking news sound. This is serious.

It's egregious. So at FTW for the win or the win the USA Today website Caroline Darnie on the phone now. Yes stat. So they did a ranking. No force of all the NHL's current mascots right from worst to best. Number one Grady, right Philadelphia. Yep. I don't disagree. No, that's fine with me.

I got nobody that's who I would vote number one. Yep. Do not disagree number two slapshot who caps. What yeah, he's an eagle so yeah, but he has eyebrows. How is slapshot an eagle?

I don't know. That's what they call them number three wild wing which is the Anaheim Ducks mascot. That's actually a cool name.

All right, fine. The Leafs have Carlton the bear was number four Carlton the bear. Yeah Sparky the dragon who I don't know. The Islanders wait, wait, wait, wait a second Sparky the dragon Islanders mascot. Yep. Well here okay, here's their justification. No, it doesn't make sense that the Islanders have a dragon mask guy, but it's a dragon. You're not going to hear me complain. Who did this? I need to look actually see who actually wrote this.

I'll get into that a bit. It's gross SJ SJ sharky the San Jose Sharks mask. Oh the Sharks cool.

Yeah, he's pretty cool. He's at six Bailey the the lion the Kings mascot. Are you purposely skipping over store? No, that's seven. Why are you skipping over storm?

I'm not I haven't I can keep going a little further down. Where's where is stormy? I don't care about it. The other man. He's at 22.

Gosh 22 and here's what they wrote great name. But stormy's immediately dock points for being a pig you pick a name that all inspiring and you go with a pig mascot instead I get that. He's representing the hog farms in North Carolina, but the tonal dissonance here. We like a dragon.

Yeah, but we like a dragon. Exactly. Never mind. Exactly dumb.

No, it's not just for the win. It's not just the hog farm. I blame Caroline Dorney. I'll see her.

I will see her on Wednesday and I will yell at her barbecue our state is known for gosh. It's so bad. Exactly. That's so bad knows ranked number 21 the saber-tooth the Sabres. So I think it's a half way. I mean, I'm sorry the Buffalo. Yeah, the Buffalo saber-saber to a decent mascot. Yeah, we looks like Tony the tiger.

It's all right. Well, I wouldn't put him in the top five but stormy is number two. I great gritty is one. Yeah stormy is two and Sparta cat.

The ogle the Ottawa Senators mascot is lash. What? Okay. This is from Mary Clark.

It's a shame Mary was nice turn in your key card. Let's place bets. Place your bets. I bet you slice into the woods a hundred bucks.

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood, sir, and I never. Kraken don't have a mascot by the way. Not yet. But their mascot will be cool when they get one. It'll be an octopus. Really or a or a squid Detroit has like an octopus or it'll be some did they throw octopus on the ice?

Yeah, or it'll be just some sort of a sea monster and that'll be cool. Yeah, and then that will also be ranked ahead of stormy on that stupid list. All right, I lost basically everything from the open championship. I don't know how well Dennis did over the weekend. I actually picked up a win from the open at Victor Hovland top 10 plus 115 good for you camera young at plus 900 to win the whole thing. It was one shot away.

He was he played great Wake Forest kid. Very good. All right, start us off, sir.

All right. I'm gonna go to women's euro England versus Spain today. Now England to win is a plus 100. But if I go England minus a half goal, it's plus 105.

So might as well just give them a minus half goal if I think they're going to win. So I'll take the plus one. Oh, there you go. Plus 105.

That's how finding the value people. There you go. Well done.

All right. I am also going to go soccer also women's soccer. Concacaf women's final is tonight 10 o'clock. If you want to stay up late USA, Canada. I in this one's going to go into extra time. So give me a regulation draw.

Plus 285 USA, Canada. I actually think Canada is going to win but I'll just say draw going into going into extra time. By the way, my England Spain is actually game is tomorrow. Okay, so I'm actually going to do quite a bit of Euro women's soccer. There you go.

All right. Speaking of which I'm actually gonna go Italy versus Belgium, which kicks off in just about an hour. Italy's a heavy favorite in this one. They're a minus 125. Whereas Belgium is a plus 290, right?

I like the Italians in this one. I'm going to take total goals scored. Total goals scored in this game though to be under two and a half. Oh, so I think it's gonna be a low scoring one. Nothing struggle. Yes under two and a half plus 110 plus 110 good for you. Have you watched any of the track and field though?

Yeah, I've I've watched a fair amount of it by the way. How did the guy get disqualified disqualified for a false start after the gun? He didn't leave until after the gunfire fall start was his hand on the line. They determined it was a false start. They have decided that the quickest you can start is point one second. He'd started in point zero nine nine.

Geez, four point nine nine. It was after the gun. It's out of the gun.

Yeah, that's what I think. Anyway. All right. So God running out of time men's 200 meter. Arian Knighton to upset Lyles plus 180.

Okay, Arian Knighton. Okay, I'll go cock a calf women's soccer Costa Rica Jamaica draw plus 235. Oh, very nice home run Derby tonight. Yeah, Dodger Stadium former Dodger Corey Seeger to be in the final against Juan Soto that matchup gets me plus 1400. Oh, okay Seeger Soto final plus 1400.

No three-peat for Pete Alonso Seeger just run out of gas, but I think he gets to the final. This is the Adam Gold show. June 19th, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 with the announcement that the Hartford Whalers were coming to North Carolina.
