You've already made the decision, whether it's because you've chosen it or you were born into it to be a Wolfpack fan. Yeah. The dirt is baked into the cake, right?

It's the seasoning. It's there. Yeah.

It's there. Jump in with both feet. Be excited about the year. Be optimistic it's going to work out in your favor. What's the worst that can happen?

It's like every other year for you. But man, don't be they'll be like, oh, I'm afraid. Don't don't do that. No, let's have let's go all in on NC State. Did I did I predict that they were going to win the Atlantic Division now in my preseason ballot? I did. Oh, you did. I did. OK, we'll have to win the Atlantic. I still haven't done my ballot yet.

Well, I think you have time. They're not even releasing the results until like Monday. Yeah, I think it's the 24th is when we have to fill it out. I wanted to meet the people.

Yeah, 24th is Sunday. Exactly. Why? You know, I want to see that guy looks like a stud. I want to pick him. Oh, he's here. He must be in all ACC Clemson's players were all just here.

They were massive. But Devon Leary is a guy that could lead NC State to a promised land is the right way to say it. But he could lead them to an ACC championship game. And we talked to Devon Leary a little bit ago. Oh, we're on video. OK. Exciting.

Very Devon Leary. I wish the video could see your shoes. I know those are fantastic. These are awesome. These are awesome. These are Christian Louis Vuitton.

So really had to switch them up a little bit. I was going to go with all black. So every year we talked to you last year and every year it seems to be a little fashion show. You're decked out in all black for people who are not watching it on the video. Oh, boy. But are you making a fashion statement?

No, it is strictly business. How are you different today than you were three years ago? Tremendously, tremendously. I mean, I think it just comes with experiences, you know, embracing the quarterback role on and off the field was the biggest thing. I mean, obviously building my trust for my teammates on the field, but also off the field so that they know each and every day I'm going to be the same guy.

And I mean, from three years to where I'm at now, I mean, it's been tremendous growth for myself, and I'm very proud of myself for how far I've come. Devon Leary is NC State's quarterback, and we haven't seen teams yet. I won't tell you that I voted for you for quarterback, ACC quarterback of the year. When you look at this season and the opportunity that is, you know, in front of you guys, how does everybody stay on the ground and not think too far ahead? Yeah, I think first and foremost, you know, it is pretty cool to see that, you know, what we did on film last year, how we produced, you know, we're earning a little bit of that respect, which is always good, but at the same time, you know, we didn't do anything yet. And I think that's the biggest thing hearing from guys in our locker room and leaders on our team that, hey, it doesn't really matter what's being said at the end of the day.

The only thing that matters is how we play on Saturday. And just keeping that same mentality each and every day, holding each other accountable, and with a veteran group being able to have so many different leaders, it's pretty easy to hold guys accountable because, you know, there's so many guys that they can experience that understand what it takes to win. I asked your coach about this earlier. We talked to Dave Doran a little bit ago. And I asked him if this summer had more of an energy to it based on the expectations that you guys have for yourselves and each other.

So take me through that. How has the spring, whether it's spring ball into the summer, how has that been a little different maybe than it's been in years past? Yeah, I think, you know, every season we have very high expectations of ourselves. And the biggest thing for us this offseason was, you know, what do we need to do to take those steps to get to 11, to get to 12 wins? You know, last year we, you know, reflected on how our offseason went and how hard we trained or how we ramped up the energy.

And that only equaled out to nine wins. So we had to understand and reevaluate again this offseason. Okay, how can we ramp it up even more to get, you know, take away those three losses, add them to the win column. And, you know, that's what we did this spring.

That's what we did all summer. You know, we're trying to ramp it up. We're trying to, you know, push guys even more, younger guys holding them accountable.

And, you know, it's awesome to be a part of it just seeing that, like, intense energy, but at the same time very intent with what we're doing. Has anybody had to reign guys in or wake guys up over the course of the summer? You don't have to get specific, but have you seen situations like that? Yeah, I mean, every single day, you know, it's a challenge. You know, waking up at 5 a.m. and- Get up at 5 o'clock? 5 a.m. every day.

This series? Come on. Every single day.

It's summer. It doesn't matter. Every day. But, I mean, yeah, some days are going to be bad days for guys. And, you know, being able to have a leader, being able to have a guy that's in that role to, you know- No, no, it's my phone.

It's all good. People are calling me. They're, oh, you're talking to Devin Leary. Yeah. But, no, as I was saying, just having people to, you know, understand and talk to people, you know, not every day is going to be, you know, feeling the very best, but also reaching out to people and understanding, hey, regardless of how you feel, I still expect this out of you.

And being able to hear that from an older guy or a guy that's in a leadership role telling a younger guy or someone that we truly need, you know, that builds a relationship that goes a long way. So, not to compare what NC State is going into this year to what North Carolina had to deal with last year, because the two situations can be incredibly different that people don't even realize, but they had to replace both of their running backs. They had to replace both of their best wide receivers, and you guys probably have more good wide receivers coming back than UNC did, but you are without Emeka Emezi. Yeah. So, now, Devin Carter came back, and that's interesting. I want to ask you about that.

But who are the new guys that you are going to be relying on to fill those roles? Yeah. I think, you know, a lot of people forget about Jordan Houston. Jordan Houston is a tremendous running back.

With the small amount of touches that he had behind Ricky and Donovan, I mean, he did great things. And, I mean, he's hungry. He's very patient. You know, he waited his time. And, I mean, credit to him, he's been through and through the whole process and understood that, hey, I'm behind very two good running backs.

Let me embrace as much as I can from them. And now, I mean, he's full go. I mean, I'm excited to watch him play. And then receivers, you know, we're really deep in our receivers. You know, we got Darryl Jones that transferred in from Maryland. We got Keyon Lassane on the outside, Anthony Smith on the outside as well. And then in the slot, we're very deep with, you know, Porter Rooks behind Thayer, Julian Gray, another young guy that has tremendous speed.

And then, obviously, with Thayer and Devin Carter back, those guys are leading the group. Carter could be pretty special, can't he? Very. Very. He's gifted.

The tougher catches were better for him. Yes. So make them hard. Throw him at his, you know, left ear or something. Yeah.

No. The thing I like about Devin the most is the energy that he brings every day. You know exactly what to expect out of Devin. He's going to ramp up the offense when we need to. And, I mean, 6'3", 220, 215, that can move. He's an athlete. Two things.

Real quick. First of all, you call him Zonniven? You don't call him Bam? I call him Zonniven. Really? You know what I mean?

His mother? No. I think, honestly, the only reason I think I call him Zonniven is because my little brother's name is Donovan. Okay.

So it kind of just flows for me. That's very good. This is Zonniven Knight.

Bam Knight. Yeah. All right.

Final thing. What have you done fun this summer? Fun. Fun. Okay. So fun. I actually did a lot of fun things this summer. All right.

I was able to go to the Manning Pass and Academy out in Thibodeau, Louisiana, which was an awesome experience being around Peyton and Eli Manning. You're better than Arch. You're talking about the nephew? Yeah. I mean, he's still in high school, so I mean. So it's true.

I just, what I said was a true statement. And then I also, so that was awesome being, there was top 40 quarterbacks, college quarterbacks that were counselors there. There was some ACC dudes, Sam Hartman.

Okay. Chris Armstrong, Phil Jurkovich. It was awesome to get out there. And then I also had an opportunity to be a camp counselor at the Elite Eleven this year out in California. And there was four college camp counselors.

It was me, Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, and Dorian Thompson Robinson. So just being. Not bad.

Yeah. It was a great crowd. I mean, good group of dudes, but that was really awesome to give back to those top high school recruits with my experience and everything that I've went through. So everything fun you did in the summer was football. That's what I love to do. That's fun to me. Well, I don't blame you. By the way, are the kicks, is that an NIL deal?

I hope. No, all right. I can't take full credit for the kicks because they're actually Peyton Wilson's. He's let me borrow them. Wow. So I can't. You must be close. Oh, we're pretty close.

We're pretty close. I let my son wear my shoes. Yeah. But I got lucky with that, so I can't take full credit because he would probably kill me. No, that's fine. That's fine.

It's a great look. Have a great time, man. Thank you. Have a great year. We'll see you soon. Yes, sir. Thank you.

Adam Gold in studio with my friend Coach Pete DeRuta with the Capital Financial Advisory Group. We are talking retirement. Coach, how does longevity risk figure into our retirement and income plan?

This is the best of times and the worst of times, Adam. Longevity risk means we're going to live too long, but to me, every day I live is not too long. Right.

Absolutely. So we want our money to outlive us. And unfortunately, many people I've seen, you out there listening, maybe one of them, your money is not designed to outlive you. You might outlive your money. And that's not what we want to have happen because when we get to that day after you run out of money, it's not going to be a fun time. So let's design a plan that guarantees you'll never run out of money. We call it the GPI plan, Growth Protection Lifetime Income, for the next 10 people. This is a golden ticket, Adam. $1,000 value, we're going to do it at no cost or obligation. And all you have to do is call. We make it so easy.

Would you like financial independence into your retirement and beyond it, 800-661-7383. That golden ticket is a $1,000 value or you could text Adam to 21000 for Coach Pete DeRuda. They're pretty good. Pretty good kicks. I got news for you. We couldn't get them on camera.

I didn't want to make Devin Leary lift his leg up. And I have a photo of them. Oh, do you? Oh, yeah, I took a photo of them. I'm actually I'm going to post them right now at the fan rookie Devin Leary.

They were very, very cool. Like, Dennis, I don't know that you or I could get get away with. Oh, I could. You could.

Well, you could. You probably know actually, I don't know, he looks sharp. That all black suit. Yeah, I liked it.

Awesome. You know, we looked there are some of the some of the kids, like who is the kid in the peach? Yeah, the peach colored suit looks awesome.

Very strong. I think was Malik Cunningham from Louisville, where I'm all red stamps also black shirt and tie in like red Nike's or red and white Nike's looks great. Hey, these guys these guys look good in clothes.

I don't I not I don't know you. You got the fit going on. No, I have a I have a nice colored shirt.

That's what I have. I mean, I look good in a bland navy and white plaid shirt very, very workman like you should have a tool belt. I should.

I really should. For all this equipment I've been managing. I do need a tool. You need a you need a wrench hanging off some sort of a leather holster. I know on your with your with your plaid shirt. Very nice.
