One. Welcome to this week's cast my dear friend Jim Houston has been under the weather so shall not be with me today. All this hope I pray for a quick healing for her, she should be back with us very soon. Today what I want to do is to continue this overall theme that I've been developing over the last months and that being we need to be sensitive to reading the signs of the time if you don't know over 25% of the Bible is prophecy it's giving evidence to things that are yet to happen.

Now a lot of those prophecies were about Jesus fulfilled specifically in his coming, but another good section of those prophecies are about Jesus second coming and when he will return.

So the Bible says that we are blessed when we study will go prophecy. I want to be blessed by God, don't you, so we need to look at the different signs of the times that Jesus says should be apparent to us to give us evidence of his imminent return now you need to know that for centuries everyone has thought in some level or another that they are living in the end times. In fact, the early church thought so. Especially as persecution came upon Christians. My wife Marilyn and I were actually watching a documentary the other night about Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn and a lot of Christians during that very tumultuous time believed they were in the end times as well and as we have gone through World War I, for example, the mother of all wars.

Many people thought that was the end times. Some thought that during Hitler's absolute apostasy and cruelty that we were living in the end times and none of those times. Obviously were the time when Jesus has come back court.

We do our believers would be with him in heaven right now. You do need to realize that there is one super sign out there that exists now that did not exist in World War II World War I in the 16th century, with an Boleyn and Henry VIII and others more in the early church. What is that super sign the super sign is the existence of Israel on May 14, 1948 Israel became a nation fulfilling the prophecy in Isaiah 60 68 which said that suddenly in one day this nation will be born and that's exactly what happened in the 24 hour time.

On May 14, 1948 Israel exists now that's important for biblical prophecy because Jesus has to return to that land and set his feet on the Mount of olives in that land and restore the nation of Israel as God originally intended with his promises. Through Abraham and through the formation of that nation in what we call the Old Testament. Now, with that super sign existing those of us who read biblical prophecy today know that were in a. That is closer to the end times than ever before because Israel exists again before May 14, 1948 no biblical prophecy saying that these are the exact in times made any sense because Israel didn't exist, but we have again the super sign of Israel's existence which makes many of us who study biblical prophecy say okay we need to be particularly alarmed and concerned because we are now 70+ years since the founding of that nation's existence, and it does need to exist before Jesus returns. So as we look at the Bible, which is what we been doing over the last several months and some of the signs that Jesus pointed out, for example, in Matthew 24 like wars and rumors of wars like famine and pestilence, and all of those different specifics that are to increase in urgency and frequency and intensity right before Jesus returns. The illustration that Jesus gives is like a woman in childbirth as the child gets closer to entering this world.

The pain is more urgent, frequent and intense. So similarly, it will be before Jesus returns. So many of us look at some of the signs like wars and rumors of wars and famine, and pestilence, etc. along with the great deception which seems to be going on a long many people's lives in the world.

We say it looks like things are getting closer and closer. And what I've tried to do over these last months is to point out some of these signs that the Bible talks about along with the super sign of Israel. That should cause all of us to continue to be more urgent and more ready in our faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ before he returns today I want to look at this sign that is important in biblical prophecy that will occur in urgency, frequency and intensity before the Lord Jesus comes back. It's called the great falling away the great falling away now.

There are many biblical examples of God's followers who fell away from following him. The most obvious example is Lucifer who fell away in rebellion against God and became Satan, the destroyer who wants to kill, steal and destroy everything that God has created. He also took along with him. One third of the angels who were a part of the great falling away and who now obey the commands of their general Satan instead of the Lord God who created them. We also have in the Bible.

Examples of demons who turned against Paul because he loved this world so much.

There's also Alexander the coppersmith that Paul talks about in specificity of one who turned against him and I think is another example of the great falling away and I've always laughed inwardly, as I thought about Paul actually putting the names Dimas and Alexander the coppersmith. In his writings of people who turned against him for ever to be read by everyone off to people who fell away.

Maybe that was his way of getting a little bit. Even with these guys who had betrayed him.

Paul also said that all in Asia minor had at one point turned against him. There was a great falling away from people who once loved Jesus, but then turned her back on Paul and the gospel that he had taught, and probably Judas is the poster child of this great falling away.

One of the 12 who for 3 1/2 years heard Jesus teachings saw his miracles knew who he was personally had a friendship with him and yet still turned against him in a great falling away that very thing folks is happening throughout the world and particularly in America today. There's a term that has been adopted playing off the evangelical idea by the way, that term evangelical was something that came to the fore in American culture in the 1970s identifying people who stood tenaciously on the power and authority of the word of God and also believed that the evangelical which means the gospel needed to be taken to everyone throughout the world. The term evangelical describes those with a commitment to biblical authority and evangelism needing to happen locally and globally.

But now with all the scientific data that's being gathered by people like George Gallup and Barna and other people. There is a term X angelical that is describing many of these evangelicals who were at the forefront of American faith in the 1970s, 80s, 90s and into the 21st century. They are described as religious nuns as people are asked to identify themselves on different applications, etc. regarding their religious affiliation, there can be Catholic, Jewish, Protestant, whatever but another line now is religious nuns and it's never become more popular in our culture to identify as a religious none as it is today, particularly among the 72 million millennial's who live out there in our culture. The millennial's are generally people in their 2235 age group who live among us today. Interestingly, their church membership has fallen from 71% to 47% today. There is a great falling away that is going on in our culture people giving up on their faith denying there once evangelical faith, calling themselves X angelical and it is being noticed in church membership, church attendance and an affiliation with any kind of Christian faith.

Now people call themselves again religious nuns, author Ernest Hemingway once said that the two ways you can go bankrupt are suddenly or slowly FB Meyer, a famous theologian once said no one suddenly becomes base we move from godliness to godlessness. Slowly but surely, sometimes imperceptibly now. If that happens, with an individual. It happens to a nation as well. Slowly but surely, we have given up our Christian rooted our Judeo-Christian values, and we are walking away falling away from the faith, but this was predicted in second Thessalonians chapter 2 verse one as a biblical prophecy. Paul wrote to the Thessalonian Christians going through trials them thinking that they were living in the end times thinking Jesus might be coming back any moment. Paul said to them now, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed either by a spirit or a spoken word or a letter seeming to be from us to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. Let no one deceive you in any way for that day will not come unless the rebellion.

Another term, there is the great falling away comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. So Paul here says to the Thessalonians that don't be deceived. The second coming hasn't happened yet.

Some of the Thessalonians were believing that had occurred. Paul said no, that hasn't happened yet. First, there must be the great falling of way and then the rising up of a man of lawlessness who would defund the police. I'm sure who will come to the fore and lawlessness will be what overseas is life as opposed to God, who is the God of law and order. There will be us. The tannic person. The Antichrist will step to the stage and he will be the man of lawlessness who invites lawlessness into the culture. Until this happens. Paul says Jesus isn't going to return there will be a great falling away that occurs beforehand and dear friends.

Jesus made it clear as he taught that there would be a great deception and a great falling away that occurred among his followers, he said. First of all, some will be deceived in Matthew 24 he said before I return. Watch for the great deception there will be teachers who will not teach accurately the word of God and dear friends that is happening all around us. There will be teachers who do not teach the full counsel of the word of God. For me that is more people who will not teach the bad news of our sinful godless condition, and that we are heading directly toward hell and then the good news that Jesus came to rescue us, forgive us and give us the gift of eternal life. Some don't teach the bad news at all. They just want people to follow them and just hear the good news of God's love and hope. Look, I believe in God's love and hope. I am the hope guy, but until you preach. The bad news there is a deception that the good news is all that you need. Jesus said that would happen before he returned. Some would be deceived.

Second is that some would be disillusioned. In the parable of the four soils Jesus said someone will hear the word of God, the gospel of grace and it will penetrate shallowly into their hearts, they will receive it with great joy. But then when tough times come, they'll give it up there disillusioned when their joy turns to the tribulations they must face as followers of Jesus and then thirdly, Jesus said, not only will some be deceived and some be disillusioned. Some will be distracted in the parable of the sower of the soils. Jesus said that many will turn away after perceiving of Jesus love and forgiveness because of the deceitfulness of riches, and the cares of this world when they have to face the reality that this world still has problems that the prosperity gospel is not true that if you follow Jesus you're going to have difficulty in life and also the deceitfulness of riches, cause people to be distracted.

They start thinking that money, power, fame and acclaim is what the gospel is all about and then they become disillusioned in seeking after the riches of this world and forget the riches of the eternal world. So some people are deceived. Some are disillusioned and some are distracted and that's going to cause a continued great falling away folks don't be alarmed. As you see that happening in our world all around us. So what should we do to prevent being a part of the great falling away first of all examine yourself.

Second Corinthians 13 five spend some time examining yourself just like your doctor tells you to do certain things to examine your body to see if it's working rightly do the same with your spiritual life.

Make sure you're connected to Jesus love Jesus. Examine your faith walk.

Secondly, encourage yourself there was a point in second Samuel, where David had so many people turn against him that all he could do was encourage himself, that could be Psalm 42 where he says why are you so downcast oh my soul. You put your hope in God, David encouraged his faith walk.

Spend some time folk speaking to your faith walk. Speaking to your soul saying why are you so downcast. Why are you thinking this faith thing doesn't work, go back to Jesus. Go back to his very love and grace given to you freely on the cross of Calvary. Encourage yourself and then seek your faith restored, and finally exercise yourself. That's what first Timothy 47 says to do keep growing in your faith walk. Practice the spiritual disciplines set goals for your spiritual life. Here's a great thing that I could advise all of you to do for the enemy who wants to put his target on your chest and discourage you become a moving target to the enemy keep moving toward Jesus, and you will make sure then you will never fall away from him. In Matthew seven. Jesus says these words when at the judgment, there will be people who whom he looks at and says you know you prophesied in my name you did miracles in my name, but I don't know you could there be more chilling words and all of the Scripture. None of us ever want to hear Jesus say I don't know you.

How do you prevent that from happening. Examine yourself, encourage yourself and exercise yourself continuing to grow in your faith and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. You know, many people called rhinos today are Republican in name only.

You don't want to be that, nor do you want to be a Sino CIN O Christian in name only. Keep growing. Keep moving toward Jesus. And at that point you will never have the temptation of the great falling away. Another sign that will occur before Jesus returns. Again, I'm David Chadwick. Thank you for listening to this week's outcast.

I look forward to next week when I give you some practical pastoral implications on how to live a full life
