You're listening to the J.R. Sportbrief on CBS Sports Radio. It is the J.R. Sportbrief show on CBS Sports Radio and I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. I get started every single weeknight at 10 p.m. Eastern Time, 7 p.m. Pacific. I'm here with super producer and host, Dave Shepherd.

He's coming to you live from New York City. And unfortunately, I say unfortunately because I want to broadcast a marathon. I want to be here for 24 hours straight, but they won't let me. And so I will only be here with you for one more hour.

And then I got to leave. And then I might be outside in the streets of Atlanta looking for food. Anyway, as I said, every weeknight, 10 p.m. Eastern Time, 7 p.m. Pacific, you can always listen on the free Odyssey app. You can tune in on your local CBS Sports Radio affiliate.

You can lock in on Sirius XM Channel 158. I'm all over the damn place. Hey, next week I'm going to be in Phoenix, Arizona. And so if you happen to be at the Super Bowl or Super Bowl week or Radio Row, if you're in downtown Phoenix, say what's up to me. I'm just going to be outside. Say hi. Anyway, if you want to talk to us, it's simple. 855-2124CBS.

That's 855-2124CBS. It's been an interesting start to the weekend. We got Kyrie Irving demanding a trade.

We have Derek Carr saying that he ain't doing the Raiders no favors, especially when it comes down to his potential trade. We got the NHL All-Star game tomorrow. Hey, Shep, you going to watch that? Probably not. Tell me how you really feel.

Well, you know, it's not my cup of tea. You going to watch the Pro Bowl on Sunday? Uh, probably not. What you doing for the weekend? I'm hosting the Sirius XM NBA radio postgame show tomorrow night. Nice.

And then I'm hosting Sunday for Gresh. Oh, lovely. Sir.

Nice. Thank you. I could listen to you on NBA radio tomorrow. You can, man. I don't know why you would. You work enough, but thank you. Why wouldn't I want to listen to you? I appreciate that, man.

You know, you know, J.R., what I would really love to do. And this is the LeBron kind of screwed me over. I was hoping he's going to score 64 points tomorrow. And that's why he should have played. That's why he should have played against. And I believe when him and A.D. set out that game. Remember that Monday?

Yeah. Against the Nets. I wish you would have played because then I would have had his game.

And I would have been able to say for the rest of my life, I was the NBA radio host for our official channel of the league when LeBron James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's once historically great 38,387 points. So we don't like LeBron no more. I still love the guy. And I got to tell you, I got to tell you, and he's made it very clear.

I'm sorry, but I have to say this. He is the new Tom Brady. Why is that such a stretch? He's been around forever. Well, what I mean by that is he is defying whatever logical odds we consume and think of and perceive when it comes to what an athlete should be doing in year 20 of their respective careers. We have never seen this before. And he's not slowing down anytime soon.

Yeah, I think we should get used to it, though. Maybe. I don't know.

What do I know? These dudes between Tom Brady and LeBron James, their careers are like, what's that stuff that grows on a rock? Moss? That's fungi?

Moss? How long does it take? Just think about this for a minute. I'm not a scientist. I think most of you can tell. How long does it take for some crap to grow on the side of a rock? It takes years, right? Or am I wrong?

I get no help from the chef. He doesn't know either. No, no, no. I don't want to give you a bogus answer, so I'm looking it up.

And when you have this specific, I'm looking for young mango trees. It's any rock. It's about five years. It takes five years for some crap to grow on the side of a rock? Yeah.

Well, these guys done been sitting outside for a long ass time. Right. So what I'm reading right now, and of course this is courtesy of S-F-Y-L-I-F-A-S Atlas, is to grow fruit on trees. Fruit?

It typically takes two to three years, yeah. Man, I didn't ask you about no fruit. I asked about crap growing on the side of a rock. That's fair.

It takes even longer for that to take place. Yeah, let's ask this guy. They got rocks in Pittsburgh.

Hey Jerry, you're on CBS Sports Radio. You got rocks and mountains in Pittsburgh. How long does it take for like green stuff to grow on the side of a rock? Five months in the moisture weather. Five months?

Yeah, if it's bad weather and moisture and a lot of that, it'll grow because that's the way it is up here. But regardless, talking about Derek Carr, if they keep him, they're never going to get any better than 7-8 wins, and they're not going to get any worse than 7-8 wins. They're just a team that's just there. Plus, the Raiders do need a little bit of extra help. So getting rid of him and maybe bringing somebody else in an upgrade, we'll have to see what happens. But with Carr, they won't get any better, they won't get any worse, and there's no chance for them to even make the playoffs in the years that come with Derek Carr. Would you agree with me?

I would. It's like being in a marriage that you know is going nowhere. Oh, Jerry didn't like that one. Maybe he's divorced. I said that and he hung up.

Poor guy. Jim is calling from Oakland. He knows about divorce. The Raiders divorced themselves from Oakland. You're on CBS Sports Radio.

What's up, Jim? Well, you know, just look at the third quarter and the fourth quarter, Carr takes $4.00 half-time. How many touchdown passes have you had in the third quarter and fourth quarter in the past couple of years?

Maybe five the whole season? Damn. Is that accurate, Jim? Check it out.

I will. And another thing, these players, Bland has stayed on the team. Who else? As a kicker. Flores stayed with the organization.

Okay. Well, look at Plunkett. Plunkett wasn't even starting, but he stayed on the team. That's where he gets hurt. Why doesn't Derek Carr take $5 million and stay on the team? Wait, wait, wait, wait. Are you talking?

We already gave the guy $180 million. Whoa, whoa, whoa, Jim, what the hell are you yelling for? Are you mad at him or me? I can't be mad at you. Don't be mad at me.

You don't yell. Are you referring to Derek Carr at the end of last season or are you referring to Derek Carr into the future? In the past few years, and especially last year, if you look at what happened at halftime and the adjustments that were made, the scoring in the third and the fourth quarter, the Raiders never really scored and he never hardly threw touchdown passes in the second half.

Okay, I'm not asking you about that. The last statement that you made were about other Raider legends who were able to stay on. Okay, you talk about Bland, he was a quarterback turned kicker and Plunkett.

Okay, fine. What are you saying about Carr? Are you saying he should have taken a pay cut? Like, what's your point?

And again, I'll make my point. Well, Monica stayed on the team when Stabler was the starter. My point is Carr should stay on the team. He should take a pay cut. Of course they're not going to give him $40 or $50 million next year. Jim, they don't want him.

Well, I mean, that's as clear as day. And I don't think... If you play Stetham, if you play Jared Stetham... He's a free agent. He's gone. Stetham's not on the team? No, he's going to be a free agent. Last year was last year.

He's not obligated to this squad no more. Right, and look what happened to the 49ers. How many quarterbacks did he need? You got Brock Purdy coming?

Well, yeah, but he didn't last. He got hit in the arm. You need depth. You need depth to quarterback. Oh my God.

Oh my God, Jim. Everybody needs depth. We know it's a brutal game. People get hurt. This is what happened to Derek Carr. This is what happened to Derek Carr.

Oh man, I got to put this guy on hold. Jim, nobody can hear you. Don't talk. The biggest point here is they do not want Derek Carr.

That's six words in his name. They do not want Derek Carr. They don't want him. What are we talking about?

Paycott? What is he supposed to be cut down to? A minimum salary? You want him to make five million? Why is he going to do that and he could make a full salary elsewhere? I mean, Derek Carr is not an idiot.

He's a starting quarterback in the NFL. The hell he's sitting around making six million dollars for? Five million? Three million?

For what? If you could start and be one of the few that do so, why not? There are only 32 of them. And half of these starters in the NFL suck. And Derek Carr is in the middle so he'll get a job. He'll go somewhere and be mediocre. Like, what are we doing? I have no idea. Why do people always want somebody else to take a pay cut?

Somebody called last night and he had a whole big fit. All the NBA players make too much money. Do they need more than 15 million dollars a year? Why not? LeBron James, you think he generates 15 million a year?

He generates that in multiples. Derek Carr should take a pay cut to stay with the Raiders. Why? They don't want him. You want to stay somewhere where you're not wanted? Nobody should do that. That's some JR wisdom.

Don't be a simpleton. Go somewhere where you're wanted. Don't hang around somewhere where nobody wants you. That's pitiful. Sad. Miserable. The only circumstances that you should hang around somewhere where you are not wanted is if you have benefits.

You can figure out whatever benefits you want, but don't stick around nobody wants you. It's terrible. Randy's calling from Pittsburgh. You're on CBS Sports Radio. What's up, Randy? Hey, how you doing, JR? I'm okay. Alright, brother. I'm telling you right now, Derek Carr's a bald man.

He should retire, get the heck out of the business. What? And I disagree with the other caller.

He didn't know what the heck he was talking about. Okay. Well, thank you, Randy. What you been doing tonight, Randy? Pardon me? I'm sorry.

Let me say it appropriately. What have you been doing this evening, sir? Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wow. What did you have for dinner? Whoa. I didn't think that would be that colorful of a conversation. Hello. I know, right? What you have for dinner?

Wow. Yaz is calling from Wisconsin. You're on CBS Sports Radio.

What's up, Yaz? Alright, well, I have to apologize for being Wisconsin and losing to Kyle Shanahan like the last three or four years. But seriously, Kyle Shanahan's coaching is a joke. Like, we watched Brock Purdy in the Super Bowl get rushed by, what is it, JJ Reddick? The Super Bowl?

It was the NFC Championship game. JJ Reddick? Yeah. Was it Reddick? Hassan. His name is Hassan. He plays for the Eagles. Hassan Reddick. Hassan Reddick.

Yes. Yeah, JJ plays. He played basketball.

No longer, though. Oh, I hear him on the radio every once in a while. Okay. I'm getting my names confused, but the point is- Are you watching- Hassan Reddick is a- Did you call into a television show or a radio show?

Radio show, JR. Come on. Okay. Okay, go ahead.

Yeah, yeah. So Hassan Reddick is rushing on the outside line as a defensive end, and Kyle Shanahan, our offensive genius, is putting a tight end to block Hassan Reddick on the line. Okay? And do you know who that tight end is? You don't, because it's not George Kittle. Okay?

And Brock Purdy has already been sacked by him, putting up a one-on-one line with defensive end Hassan Reddick on the number two tight end twice. Okay? So watch the play again.

Look at the all-22s. I don't know, man. Like, for offensive genius, really?

That's what we're doing with your offensive line? I don't know. I don't know.

It seems too cute. Man, you know that was last weekend, right? Right. Yeah. I ain't thinking about that no more.

That's old. Where you been all week? I'm busy. I've been working. I work nines, and I have to- This is- Okay, so this is kind of silly, but- Tell us.

My work, I start at six, but we all have to gather up and get on a bus to get to the job site, and it's kind of like, shouldn't we be paid if show-up time is 5.45? I don't know. It's work- Well, what are you doing if you don't mind me asking?

Help us out here. What are you doing up in Wisconsin? As a career or as a lifestyle, or what do you mean? No, I don't want to know your lifestyle.

That's your business. You're telling me that you wait for a bus to go to work. What do you do? I'm an electrician, so I show up to a job site that's so big that we have to all park in a parking lot, and so they have to bring us a bus to get to the job site. What are you building? A UFO?

Like, what, are you going to take us to the aliens when you're building? I know, right? No, no, it's- Don't get fired telling me, okay? Don't get fired. I know, right?

Yeah, I'm trying to watch my words. Thank you. Okay, don't tell us. We'll surmise what you're building. But yes, thank you, okay? Yeah, just, you know, don't get too cute as an offensive play coordinator and put your second tight end against Hasan Reddick. Like, what? Okay, thank you, yes. At least chip him, you know? Thank you.

Thank you, appreciate it. We watched the game one Sunday, man. It's almost Sunday again. What job, what job, Shep, what job does this man, wait, a million electricians get on a bus to go to a job? Like, is he building a new stadium?

Like, where's he going? Yeah, like some construction site. I've never heard of that before.

In Wisconsin? It reminds me of, like, working in, like, the shipping yard, like, in the docks in the 1940s and 50s when they used to do that. He sounds like he's building one of the World Cup stadiums out in, where they just played World Cup at?

I should know this. Qatar? He sound like he in Qatar or something.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Qatar, that's right, yeah. Yeah, let's get a million people together and put them on a bus and make them build the stadium and then ship them back home. In Wisconsin? Somebody in Wisconsin knows what's going on. Rat him out. Tell me what's going on in Wisconsin. What job do you need when you put a million electricians on a bus and drive them to a site?

What's your building? I did see that. Did you hear about that balloon that was floating over Montana, Shep? No, what happened?

Oh, I don't know if I should talk about that. There's a balloon floating over Montana. Let's just say it was not an American balloon.

Okay. It had a camera on it. Okay, got it. And it floated from thousands of miles away. Drones? It was a balloon. Got it. Came from another country.

I'll leave it there. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here on CBS Sports Radio speaking of coming from another country and being absolutely out of your mind. I guess he is from this country, but he's nuts. I guess we can consider Florida a part of this country. He is a Florida man and he has issues.

His name is Antonio Brown. I'm going to share the latest on the other side here on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. Hey, man, thank you for having me, man. Enjoy your show, man. I've been tuned in for about a month, man. I've been locked in. I appreciate your work, man. Call in now at 855-212-4CBS.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at what I'm about to share with you. And I actually heard it like last hour. Marco Belletti came through with a news update and I had to go, him again? Him? Antonio Brown?

Him? Here we are on a Friday night. And I get it.

People are doing all types of wild things on a Friday night. Not me. I'm here on the radio. Maybe later. Not now. Anyway, Antonio Brown is on social media. Or was. Or maybe he still is.

I don't care to look. He was on, I guess, Instagram Live. And he seemed very sedated. He seemed very relaxed. He seemed very at ease. And I guess he should be.

He has plenty of time on his hands, I guess. And Antonio Brown decided to share a message. He wanted to explain to the world why he is the way he is. And he blamed someone. Well, he blamed another former stealer.

Listen to Antonio Brown on Instagram Live. I wanted to tell you guys that I think James Harrison gave me CTE. James Harrison had a legal helmet for over 20 years in the NFL. And he hit me one time. And ever since he hit me, I've been super aggressive. So blame James Harrison for my CTE. What? Am I confused?

What am I doing here? Blame James Harrison for my CTE? Does he understand CTE comes as a result of multiple, like, head injuries and multiple hits? Does he understand that? Like, there's a difference between CTE and something like an STD. You don't just get it from one time.

Like, you have to have a recurrence of head injuries before you develop CTE. There's nobody that can tell him that. I guess not. There was nobody to tell him that running off the field with your clothes off is not a good idea. There was nobody to tell him that hanging out with Kanye West was a good idea.

I guess birds of a feather flock together. There was nobody to tell him that, you know, going on Facebook Live in the locker room while your coach was speaking was a bad idea. Nobody told him that fighting the delivery guy of your furniture was a bad idea. Nobody told him that throwing furniture off the balcony was a bad idea. No one told him that you probably shouldn't insult the mother of your children on Instagram Live was a bad idea. And I can go on assaulting.

I can go on and on and on and on and on. I don't know if Antonio Brown has CTE. I think it's ridiculous to say that James Harrison gave it to him. If James Harrison hit this man right now, maybe he'd knock some sense into him. I just hope Antonio Brown gets whatever love and tender love and care that he needs.

That man needs a whole lot. Chef, let me hear that again. What did he say? I wanted to tell you guys that I think James Harrison gave me CTE. James Harrison had a legal helmet for over 20 years in the NFL and he hit me one time. And ever since he hit me I've been super aggressive. So blame James Harrison for my CTE. What is he becoming a super villain at the end of that? All of a sudden this evil music pipes in at the end.

What are we doing? All the best of that man. He has issues for real. And James Harrison, just leave him be. And for everyone who wants to tell me that Von Tesperfect knocked him out and then he was nuts.

No. Go look at this man's past. Look at his past into the NFL. Look at his path I should say into the NFL. It goes way beyond being knocked out by Von Tesperfect.

It goes way beyond that. O'Leary calling from Ohio. You're on CBS Sports Radio. What's up?

I'm Troy. I love the All-Star games and the Pro Bowl. It's about the individual players that have a chance to compete with other players they don't have a chance to compete with and play with in a very fundamental time. It's not about being so, you know, during the season it's about winning. The Pro Bowl is about having fun and having a good time with other individuals that represent the high level play that they play. People don't want to watch it or they don't want to go to it.

That's fine. But don't disrespect the game or the players. When you have that chance and you get that call to be an All-Star, that is limited amongst the high level players that you play with.

Granted, they're not going out there and killing their all or playing their all. But Troy. Troy. Yes sir. It sucks.

Yes sir. And nobody disrespecting the players of the game. The players don't even care to play. That's why the game doesn't exist no more because it sucked. Back in my time I'm a little bit older because I'm like 65 years old. It meant something. That's fine. But now I remember.

I'm not 65. I can remember 30 and 35 years ago where it mattered to somebody. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter now and today and it hasn't mattered and it feels like 15 to 20 years it hasn't mattered.

And that's the shame about it. It's about the individual players that are out there who play and they get that respect from other individuals. Troy. If I just woke up and did a list and thank you for calling from Ohio. If I woke up and did a list and said these guys are pro bowlers and you get a bonus.

Them guys would take the money and roll over. Who cares? They ain't trying to go out there and bust ass in Hawaii no more.

Their family don't get a free trip. Who cares? Nobody. I don't think a pro bowler feels disrespected. I don't feel like anybody feels slighted.

Who cares? Watch the NHL All-Star game tomorrow. I'm going to tune in. I want to see if Gritty is there. Gritty the mascot from the Flyers. He's awesome.

He's a big orange monster. Hey Mark are you like Gritty? Yeah don't care. Well damn. I mean well damn.

Are you going to watch the NHL All-Star game? Not two seconds. No. Couldn't care less. Wow. You feel that way about every All-Star game? Pretty much.

The only one that I'll put on for maybe a little bit is baseball. But even that. There's nothing there anymore. I'm cool with the fact that nobody wants to play them anymore and I'm fine if they get rid of them. But the idea that I'm going to waste my time watching something that even the players don't want to be a part of.

It's just it doesn't do it for me. I liked it a long time ago when they cared. They don't care and I get why. But that also makes me not care. Yeah well yeah I get it. I understand. Let me ask you this.

Antonio Brown. That's a part of the news now. If he gets hit by James Harrison legitimately can we have the sense knocked into him? Is that possible?

You know that'd be cool. I don't think it works like that though. I don't think he'd get it back. I don't think so.

It's a shame. He needs real help. That's the thing. Somebody in his inner circle and I know a lot of people seem to have inner circles that nobody tells them the truth. Somebody's got to sit him down and be like look we need to seriously talk to someone. We got to work some stuff out because whatever you've been doing for the last few years you can't possibly from the outside looking and go yeah this is okay.

Like something's wrong. No he unfortunately and I can tell you via unfortunately real personal experience. He has alienated many people close to him over the past several years. And so hey you get with the wrong circles.

You get with the wrong groups and they take advantage of you. Yeah he needs legitimate help. I hope one day he can get it. He's still a young dude. Antonio Brown can't be older than I don't know 32, 3, 4, 5.

He's 34 years old. Yeah and you know what look I don't know and I never met the man but by all accounts and people that I've talked to that knew him early in his career to whatever and as things moved on they said it's a stark contrast. Just the person that he was to what he became. So it's scary. The idea that maybe there is something that changed things. Who knows?

We'll never know that. There were signs there early on about just his background and where he came from and how he got to be where he is and he certainly worked his way up the NFL ranks and then he got dumped money and fame and we know that can eat a lot of people alive. And the worst came out.

The worst that was buried deep deep deep came out when he was able to have success. We've seen that story before. I wish the guy nothing but the best but James Harrison giving him CTE. It's not the cooties man. It don't work that way. It's not the cooties.

It doesn't work that way. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here on CBS Sports Radio. I'm going to get some more of your calls before I have to roll out. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio.
