He's gonna be 28 next year. He's basically gonna be a just in case type quarterback unless he's the starter for Washington. We've talked about Deshaun Watson. Yeah, he's back. He's playing football. Maybe you haven't noticed, but he's here. We've talked about Odell Beckham Jr. saying one of the most selfish things I've ever heard a football player say in my life.

I'll play that again momentarily. We've talked about the Lions, a team that you actually have to pay attention to and respect right now. I just told you about the Vikings. I think their past defense sucks.

I'm not high on them. And then here for the rest of the hour, I want to take your calls. We'll talk about the Dolphins and the Chargers, two teams trying to get back to the playoffs, give you an update on Lamar Jackson.

It's just been, it's been a busy night. And then I don't know, maybe over the next five minutes, we'll have another major free agent signing in the world of baseball. Everybody's getting a paycheck. Man, I had some callers earlier this week who were just upset at it. Like, oh, these guys overpaid and I can't go to a ball game. Like, yo, the owners don't care.

Just, I don't want to say that they're two teams that the Vikings are trying to make noise. The Vikings are trying to be legitimate contenders and the Lions actually trying to be a legitimate NFL team.

And you got to give them credit for that. And we also have two other teams that this is a game that I want to see. We got the Dolphins and the Chargers coming up. Miami Dolphins are 8-4.

We know the story of what their season has pretty much been. Tua Tangalua, he gets his bell rung. He comes back. He lights up the NFL. He lights it up so much, doesn't turn the ball over, that people are looking at him as a potential MVP candidate.

I don't think that's necessarily in the cards. And the Dolphins with their own new young head coach, everybody's like, well, damn. Tua looks legit. The Dolphins look legit as they'll go into the playoffs, I believe. And then you got the Chargers on the other hand, who cannot get out of their way ever. When I think about the Chargers, I think choke job. When I think about Brandon Staley, I go, does he know what he's doing?

When I think about Justin Herbert, I have to say to myself, please, God, let's not allow this man's talent to be wasted. The Chargers were supposed to have an amazing defense this year. If guys were actually healthy. The offense, I look at the offense and I say to myself, Mike Williams and Keenen Allen, when are these guys ever going to be healthy?

Austin Eckler, he deserves a raise for the crap that he has to deal with. And so when you think about the Chargers, this is never going to change for me ever in life. I want to call them the San Diego Chargers so bad because that's where they belong. They were in Los Angeles now because the NFL is greedy. They wanted to put two teams in the stadium.

I get it. They haven't been to the playoffs since 2018. And it's like every time they have a chance or an opportunity, they go out there and choke it away just like they do a lot of their games.

And so you got two squads here. Chargers haven't been to the playoffs since 2018. If you go ahead and think about the Miami Dolphins as a franchise, they haven't been to the playoffs since 2016.

And you can probably put some of your fears to bed when it comes to Tua. It's just about taking that next step. He took on a defense last week against the 49ers. They took his lunch money. They had him rattled. They beat him 33 to 17.

If I remember correctly, it was the final score. And so while Miami can put points up on the board, is their defense stopping anybody? Is Justin Herbert going to go out there and just decide to light them up? These are two teams that have talent.

They got to execute them. The Dolphins are in a better position. The Chargers is just, please don't waste Justin Herbert.

Brandon Staley, he's taking the approach after going into last year and getting close to the post season, not getting in. He's like every single game is practice for the post season. After the bye, once you get past halfway, every game, it means a lot. It's not like the Atlanta game didn't mean as much as this one. Or, you know, hey, the Kansas City game didn't mean as much as the Vegas game. Like they all mean a lot down the stretch.

Every game is positioning you for the post season. Uh oh, did I just, hey Jack, did I hear a head coach talk about the importance of the regular season? I heard that correctly, right?

Yeah, I think you did if my ears are working properly. And that actually runs counter to what I heard someone who's not playing in the NFL right now say about his return. He didn't understand the importance of the regulars. That's Odell Beckham Jr. Jack, can we play Odell talk about where he wants to play? Let's hear that.

I haven't made the decision and for me it's like I would like to be in a stable environment, get up 6 a.m, leave at 6 p.m for four weeks and then let's talk about it. I've played football for a long time. Like I'm not saying that I couldn't step in and play regular season, but I don't see the point. I really don't. Like I would rather play when that pressure's on.

I'd rather play when the lights is on. Like I went through the whole playoffs and I was after having my first bad playoff experience, like all I was ready for was to clear that off my name. Okay, all right.

That bad playoff experience he references, by the way, is the Packers. And when he talks about, you know, just being ready to go out there and play, man, you need to play. What are you saying? You only have but so many reps in your body?

Probably does. He's blown out his ACL twice. He's had a history of leg issues.

He broke his ankle. I mean, what are we supposed to do? Keep you on ice until the postseason? That runs counter to football.

That runs counter to building camaraderie. Let's hear Brandon Staley one more time talk about the opposite of what Odell said, the importance of the regular season, especially this time. After the bye, you know, once you get past halfway, every game is, it means a lot. It's not like the Atlanta game didn't mean as much as this one or, you know, hey, the Kansas City game didn't mean as much as the Vegas game. Like they all mean a lot down the stretch. Maybe not so much about the Dolphins, but can the Chargers kind of get back in the race? Are they going to do what they typically do? Choke? Or are they going to wait until the end of the season to choke?

Hey, JR. Appreciate you taking the call. Longtime listener. First time caller as the proverb says, but you've gotten me through a couple of long night drives.

So appreciate you. Really quickly, just regarding Odell. Can't stand the dude as a person. I mean, I don't know him personally, but he is for sure a bit of a prima donna in that sense.

And I just wish, of course, he would stop this whole tour and teasing and actually land on a destination. Because just like that Staley clip said, every game matters now. That being said, he is the perfect fit for the Cowboys and vice versa. And sure, he does bring a lot of fanfare with him, but this is the Dallas Cowboys.

They are born for players, or that franchise is made for players like that. And we saw how much they really are hurting without Marty Cooper there. And to be honest, do they have the firepower to compete with the Eagles? Do they have the firepower to compete even with the quarterbackless 49ers?

I'm not sure. I think Heatingland does need the number two guy to lean on. And Pollard has really filled in nicely as a receiving threat. But the difference that Odell would bring to that team is crazy. And the vets that they have, like Demarcus Lawrence and of course, Dak and even Zeke at this point. I mean, I think that you could weather that storm.

And thank you Conrad for calling from Toronto. Every circus needs his clown, right? That's the Dallas Cowboys. And I think they have enough ammunition. Odell wouldn't quote unquote hurt them. He wouldn't hurt them unless he was hurt. Like he's going to garner attention. Jerry Jones is a big enough circus by himself.

So maybe that franchise wouldn't necessarily be buried with Odell in the locker room. But Jerry Jones has already made it clear that, hey, I'm not all that confident in his health or signing him right now. Has he received any offers? I haven't heard anything. You know, typically with Odell, he has some friends in the media. Typically say everything that's going on around him to help paint the proper picture.

I just moved down to Myrtle Beach to take care of my uncle and all that kind of thing, so a little bit of a life-changing experience, but I still watch my lines every Sunday, faithful. I mean, let's face it, they have been in a championship game since 1957, but at the end of the day, you know, I've watched coaches come and I've watched coaches go. You know, we've had some great players throughout our span.

Barry Sanders, I mean, you can get in some great names going along here. My, you know, this Dan Campbell thing, quite frankly, I think he's the best thing that has happened to the Lions in many, many years when it comes to a head coach position. He took it over, and it was just all about grit, and we're gonna work hard, and he is, you know, he is delivered on that promise. I think that he puts that time and that effort in, and I think that his players see it and feel it, and they respond to it. You mean to tell me you didn't like Matt Patricia?

No, sir. Oh, I don't think any of the players liked him either, so there you go. I mean, come on.

We've had a bunch of Hollywood people go through, and, you know, we've had some other people that are out there doing back where they came from, Detroit defensive coordinators, offensive coordinators, whatever. Yeah, Matt Patricia, he comes across, and I'm, you know, you don't want to judge anybody, but he really comes across as a jerk in a general sense. I don't... Arrogant, whatever you want to call it. There you go.

I don't, well, I do know how he got the job, and it's, he's back with his daddy now. Let's just put it that way. Thank you, John.

Appreciate you, man. Well, number two, you know, number two is the Ford family. You know, they're probably my biggest thorn in my side when it comes to Lions because, I mean, let's face it, you had Stafford, you had Megatron. These guys are out there setting records for years as the years go by, and without being surrounded by an offensive line, Stafford. I mean, how many times that guy get his ass, you know, get his luck? Every day. Well, you know what I mean?

And it was just, it's disheartening to me. John, I have a solution for you because I don't think the Ford family, now led by Sheila, I don't think they're going to go anywhere. If you want a change at the ownership level, I have a suggestion to you. I think you have to come up with the flying car, and if you can do that and supplant the Ford family, that might be the solution there, okay? Rockstar status on that, Jimmy. Yeah, beat Elon Musk to it. I heard he's already working on it. I'm sure he is. John, thank you, man.

Odell Buncombe, Odell Beckham, quite frankly. John, I got to let you go, John. I got other people here.

You know, Tua Tanga Veloa, you look a little shell-shocked against the 49ers this past Sunday, getting smacked all over the place.

And he actually took the approach that I like. He says that, yeah, we got our asses whooped. We got to learn from it. There's areas of work that you thought, you know, maybe you had down that, you know, hey, reality check, you know, here's what the deal is.

You know, you know, you know, here's what the deal is. And so it was good for all of us offensively to see the mistakes, to talk about the mistakes. And, you know, we were just looking to learn from that and hopefully transition into a really good week of practice this week and, you know, prepare for a good Chargers team. Reality check.

Everybody needs a good reality check. The Dolphins will be fine. The Chargers, I'm not sure. Let's see what they can do.

Always finding a way or new innovative way to kind of choke things away. Speaking of a reality check, I'm going to take more of your calls on the other side. I'm going to tell you about an NFL team that I am, I'm just, I don't want to say I'm done with them, but I think I am.

I'm not high on the Minnesota Vikings who give up almost 300 yards passing a game, worse than the NFL, despite having a 10-2 record. I told you that I'm anxious to see what takes place this Sunday between the Dolphins and the Chargers. The Dolphins will be okay, but the Chargers just, I watch Justin Herbert and I go, help the man.

Help him. You got Eckler out there. Is Keenan Allen going to be alive? Is his hamstring going to explode? The defense is pathetic for the Chargers. Everybody is hurt. But another team, speaking of hurt and health, I don't want to say I've quit on this squad because I haven't.

But the shine isn't there anymore. The excitement around the team isn't there anymore. And it's because it's seemingly becoming more unlikely, I guess I should say, or could say, that they're quote unquote going to just jump, get over the hump.

Jump, get over the hump. I'm talking about the Baltimore Ravens. Yeah, the Ravens.

They're eight and four. The defense has gotten better since the acquisition of Roquan Smith. They're doing better against the run. But Lamar Jackson going down. And now we got Tyler Huntley coming in.

It's just, they, I'm just, I'm shrugging my shoulders. We went into this season. And when I say we, I'd say most football fans, you know, ready for the Ravens to have a winning record and then go into the postseason. And the big question for the Ravens this year was what was Lamar Jackson going to do this year to up his value, to get paid the contract that he wanted to get paid?

And the answer is, I got to be honest, nothing. A lot of the Ravens losses earlier on this season have been games that they just choked away. I'll never forget this. Like you let Tua Tonga Veloa burn you for four TD's?

Damn. To lose? It's a choke job. Choke job and against the Giants.

That's just, it's unfortunate. And then they beat Denver this past week. Lamar Jackson goes down early with a knee injury. They say he's week to week. They say he's day to day. They say he's day to week.

And now he's week to week. And so we won't see Lamar Jackson in what is one of the biggest and best rivalries I'd say in the NFL. And that's the Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers were just here in Atlanta. I didn't go to the game, but I was at the airport here in Atlanta after the game. And man, the Steelers took the damn airport over. All you saw was black and yellow at the airport.

The world's busiest, one of the world's busiest airports. Steeler fans travel crazy, like nothing. And so Pittsburgh is on a little bit of a streak right now as well. TJ Watt is back from his pack, but hasn't been performing as well as he would want with his own injury. I think another one to his ribs. And so this should be a fun, interesting match up. Najee Harris is stiff arming people straight to hell.

He's an abuser. Running the football, the Ravens, if you want to hang your hat on anything right now, it's the run defense. And so I look at the Ravens and I'm just like, I shrug my shoulders. We're not going to get a Lamar Jackson MVP season.

I don't think Lamar Jackson has played a season so far this year where you just have to throw buckets of money at him. He'll probably be tagged. So I look forward to seeing this game. But if I have to think about the AFC North, the Bengals look more impressive right now.

855-2124 CBS. Matter of fact, even though we won't have Lamar Jackson out there, even though Pittsburgh is rebuilding, even though Kenny Pickett is, he's okay. Stop turning the ball over at the rate at which he's supposed to be.

He's not going to be playing the ball over at the rate at which he started the season. Mike Tomlin always knows when the Ravens take on the Steelers, it's about to go down. We can't wear our hands out, patting ourselves on the back. Obviously we got the Baltimore Ravens coming in this week. We got five or so left, three of those are divisional games. And so boy, there's a lot of weight on them.

There's a lot of weight on this one. And so that's why we're excited about the week of work in front of us from a preparation standpoint. Okay, well let's see if the Pittsburgh Steelers can win four out of five games. If Pittsburgh wins, if they beat the Ravens with no Lamar Jackson, Pittsburgh will improve their record to six and seven. Do I think Mike Tomlin is going to have another positive season on the winning side? I don't know about that, but he certainly has a chance right now. He has to beat Tyler Huntley though, and John Harbaugh, he actually has some kind words for Huntley, even though I think he's lost the last three games he's played. He's a player that's got a lot of dynamics to his game and he can throw, he can run, he operates really well. And not his experience obviously, but his experience, he's been out there last year, he's out there for five, six, seven games, right? This year now.

So if that's the way it goes, that's the way it goes. We'll be excited to play and our guys will be fired up. Yeah, when this man has started, he's lost. Yeah, he beat Denver this week.

He had to come on and relieve Lamar who started the game and went out with a knee. They play each other tough, they play each other hard, division rivals. Let's see what happens. But the Ravens, they're not there. This past week on Wednesday, I didn't have them on my top six list. Ravens are good. I'm sick of them being good. I've been waiting for years for them to get over the hump and show that they can do it. And I feel like we're in store for the same thing. They'll get into the playoffs and they'll lose.

Same thing year after year after year. 8-5-5-2-1-2 for CBS. 8-5-5-2-1-2 for CBS. Ezra's calling from Atlanta.

What's up, Jay? Real quick, you know, I'm not a fan of injuries when it comes to the game. A lot of real sports people aren't. Who is? Wait, wait, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Somebody likes injuries?

Who's that? I mean, you'd be surprised, man. I work at a sports bar. You'd be surprised at the things I hear. Sometimes I just gotta walk away when I hear somebody hope he doesn't get up. Oh, no.

Yeah, no, it's the saddest thing ever. You're here in Atlanta? You work at a sports bar here in Atlanta, people hope for injuries? Yeah, I work at a sports bar here in midtown Atlanta.

And let's just say a lot of Eagle fans go there. How about that? Oh, wait a minute.

I'm trying to think. Hold on a second. Oh, wow.

Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. On Peachtree?

Yeah, Hudson Midtown, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know, I know. Yeah, but it's sad because, like, I never wish injuries on no player in the league. I kind of wish we can all just go through a 17 game season.

Everybody healthy and best team wins, right? With no Lamar, you know, when he got hurt last week or, you know, I was just like, man, now if we win, it's going to be we won without Lamar. But I'm going to tell you, without Lamar, I'm scared of Harbaugh out coaching Tomlin because I think what Harbaugh is going to do, what I would do, I would just run Gus Edwards and run the whole trio running backs they got.

And I would just keep running because this is scary to think that we have one of the worst rush defenses in the league. They don't have Lamar. And Gus Edwards just came off a very bad game. And that's not Gus Edwards. Like, so as a Steeler fan, I actually, I wish, I'm not going to say I wish Lamar was there.

That's crazy. But I just wish it wasn't like it's going to be because I can see them trying to run the ball down our throats and we cannot stop the run. Yeah. Well, it's always, it's always one of those knock down, drag out type matchups between these two teams.

And so it's something that I actually appreciate. I'll tell you this. I just want to see Najee out there stiff arming somebody. That's all I want to see. So tired on them.

with a busted up leg he was still out there playing his ass off he was the best player in college football this past year just give him the award i hope he doesn't put nail polish on his nails with cusses on it anymore i don't think that would be a appropriate for a hosman event so it's been a busy night we've talked about baker mayfield and you know where he could potentially extend his career and actually have success i think the only squad i could really see him on where he would maybe get a legitimate chance to be that guy it's probably washington or maybe next year he decides it's better off for him to stay on los angeles and be a backup i don't know they're kicking the ties let's see what happens we talked about deshaun watson he's back yeah he played this past week he played like crap but he's back and this week they're gonna take on the cincinnati bangles who are just on a roll all by themselves we talked about the ravens i'm not high on the ravens right now it's just like the same old same old sure they'll end up with a winning record sure they'll be a good team but i feel like they'll go to the playoffs again and fall flat i know they talk about lamar jackson week to week day to day week to week i'm just shrugging my shoulders at this point we discussed o'dell beckham jr who said one of the most selfish things i've ever heard from a professional athlete like man a matter of fact jack should we play it again why not let me find it the obj clip yeah obj is talking about how much he doesn't uh yeah whatever he does he doesn't understand the point of the regular season for him listen i haven't made the decision and for me it's like i would like i would like to to be in a stable environment get up 6 a.m leave at 6 p.m for four weeks and then let's talk about it i've i've played football for a long time like uh i'm not saying that i couldn't step in and play regular season but i don't see the point i really don't like i would rather play when that pressure is on i would rather play when the lights is on like i went through the whole playoffs and i was after having my first bad playoff experience like all i was ready for was to clear that off my name yeah well it's just selfish wouldn't we all just like to wake up and get to the end result without participating with a team whatever we talked about the lions and the vikings the lions are on the up and up the vikings i look at them as fool's gold they're giving up all them yards in the air we talked about the dolphins and the chargers and the dolphins are gonna go to the playoffs the Steelers fan i just wanted to know what you think kenny pickett ceiling is i think he's been doing real good the past couple weeks but also i'm way more of an eagles fan what so i want to know right now your your prediction is how how far philly goes in the playoffs but also your prediction of kenny pickett ceiling in pittsburgh so on wednesday i gave a top six list of teams that i feel very comfortable in and going on a run i had the eagles at number one now what they look what they look like in a few weeks or what they might look like against a team like the chiefs i probably still favor someone like patrick mahomes but the eagles are stacked on both offense and defense hurts is having an mvp caliber season i think the mvp will probably fall to him absolutely best best season of his entire career absolutely oh well best season yeah he's he finally got a chance to start full-time last year this was going to be the the test case if last year was a fluke or not and he's gotten better which you have to appreciate as a fan when an athlete you you see that progression year after year after year you know these guys get my respect that's why i appreciate josh allen so much so the eagles are going to contend for a championship now as it relates to kenny pickett what is his ceiling do i think he's going to wake up and be a top 10 qb i'm not so sure i think he can be a starter for multiple years i think he can hold down the fort for a bunch of years i think he's i think he can be a really a glorified game manager when i think about kenny pickett i see him as jimmy garoppolo but someone who can move around a whole hell of a lot better see i i like kenny pickett since he was in pit so like whenever he went to the steelers i really thought that he was going to be like be able to bring a championship to the steelers again like i i thought that this was the next quarterback besides ben that was going to be able to bring a championship to the team because mason rudall ain't doing that mr turbidity ain't doing that the only the only person that's doing that is kenny pickett okay well listen i think there'd be a whole lot of folks in pittsburgh who would be fired and then you're turning things around when you're an organization that goes from having no respect and you actually have talent in the building you have a coach in the building who's gonna get the boot the man won three games last year uh starting off one and six you can pretty much see the talent in the building you have a six you can pretty much surmise if he continued on that type of trajectory winning another three or four games he was going to get the boot and so am i going to be impressed yeah i am but i'm not going to be shocked not by any stretch of the imagination and someone who's going to go out there and and and and and feel that they got a little bit you don't know more into the the exchange is dan campbell he thought he's gonna be out the door man right i
