If you're feeling down and having trouble getting up in the morning, here's a tip. Brush your teeth.

That's it. Often when we wake up, our brains go into planning mode, which leads to overthinking and stress before our head even leaves the pillow. Something simple like brushing your teeth can break that cycle and jumpstart your day. This tip was brought to you by BetterHelp Online Therapy, which connects you with a licensed therapist via video, phone, or online chat.

It's the JR Sport Brief show. So what does that mean? That means I'm JR. And I'm coming to you live from the Rocket Mortgage Studios if you need to know what it takes for a home to fit your budget and your family.

Rocket can. Super producer and host Dave Shepherd is here with me and you and we are joining you however the hell you're listening. Is it on your local affiliate? Is it on the free Odyssey app?

If it's not, take the show with you anywhere. Also, people listening on Sirius XM chain of 158 and everybody listening on a smart speaker. 855-2124CBS.

That's 855-2124CBS. We've talked about Aaron Judge tonight hitting home run number 62. No one in baseball history in the American League has hit more home runs than Aaron Judge. We've talked about the Atlanta Braves winning the National League East. New York Mets. Sorry.

You got to go ahead and battle that out in the wild card. Unfortunately, we shared the news with you that Tom Brady and his wife, it appears that they will be going their separate ways, filing or hiring divorce attorneys. And yeah, not necessarily a football story, but the fact is Tom Brady has been very public with his own private life. And so no shock and no surprise that this will be a topic, unfortunately, of conversation to a certain degree. And hopefully it does not become a distraction to Tom Brady and to the team.

I mean, maybe more so Brady. It was only a couple of weeks ago. Damn it. It was a month ago.

Well, I can't even say that. We're in October. August was now more than a month ago. Tom Brady was going from training camp for almost two weeks.

And when he came back, Tom Brady stood in front of the media and he basically said, listen, I'm old. I got a lot of things going on. You might remember when he said this. Listen, it's all personal. You know, everyone's got different situations they're dealing with. So we all have really neat challenges to our life. And, you know, we're I'm 45 years old, man. There's a lot of going on. So, you know, you just got to try to figure out like the best you can.

And, you know, it's a continuous process. So, listen, Tom Brady has lived a public life. His wife is a public figure supermodel.

I wouldn't know her if she walked down the street from me. But people know who the hell she is. She makes more money than he does. They've talked openly about their family.

She's talked openly about their family life and and wanting him home and how dangerous it is. I mean, how private can they be? It sucks. It's unfortunate for the kids. It's unfortunate for everybody. Divorce sucks. I wouldn't know. I'm not married to nobody. Nobody wants to marry me. 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. As we continue on, we'll get into Luka Doncic. NBA executives think that he will or he's in the front runner or he is the front runner to win MVP. We'll talk about Matthew Stafford, this poor guy. He's not getting divorced, but he's been driven and pile driven or piledrived into the ground. We'll give you an update on Russell Wilson as he prepares for Thursday Night Football. And then why not? Speaking of another Russell, we'll give you an update on Russell Westbrook.

Yes, he is still a Laker for now. And we got a lot of calls. There are so many calls here. It is absolutely ridiculous.

But this is normal. 855-212-4CBS. That's 855-212-4CBS. And man, man oh man, Aaron Judge's home run number 62. How can I forget this? Roger Maris, when Aaron Judge tied his dad for 61 last week, Roger Maris basically said, oh, it's great. Aaron Judge tied my dad. It's nice that we have someone who is a clean home record king and he's also a Yankee. He doubled down on this tonight. Shep, I didn't know Roger Maris Jr. was even on Twitter. He joined August 2017, so he's been here for a while.

And what did he tweet? Oh my God. Congratulations to Aaron Judge and his family on Aaron's historic home run number 62. It has definitely been a baseball season to remember you are all class and someone who should be revered. For the majority of the fans, we can now celebrate in all caps a new clean home run king. I mean, damn. What does Barry Shep, when Barry Bonds, when he reads that, if he does, what goes through Barry Bonds?

He just goes, oh man, F you, and he goes back to sleep. That's what he does, right? Barry Bonds, he's one of the most fascinating people in the history of sports because his greatness was on display from day one. He was the first guy to go 400, 400, then 500, 500. I mean, home runs and stolen bases. And he was on his way to being one of the, not a Hall of Famer, not a first ballot Hall of Famer, one of the true icons of his time. He was going to be the next Willie Mays. That is the greatness of Barry Bonds. I don't get him.

I can't figure him out for the life of me. And now he gets more pleasure out of bike rides in the Alps than anything else. So he's bike riding, he doesn't give a damn what Roger Marich Jr. has to say about him?

I don't think so. I think his reality is so warped and so demonstratively different for most of us. Remember, this guy grew up with Willie Mays as his godfather, so what applies to you and me has never applied to Barry Bonds.

He's in a different reality. At least Mark Maguire, to his credit, I mean, we know what Sammy Sosa has done with his second half of his life. But to Mark Maguire's credit, well, Sammy Sosa has engaged in different experiments with his body. Yeah, he's white.

Well, you know, I won't get into that. Mark Maguire, to his credit, has at least apologized, has found himself as a hitting coach on multiple teams, and has also found a second life in that St. Louis community where he is beloved there to this day. Maybe Barry Bonds just needs a hug.

When's the last time you think somebody gave him a hug? I tell you what, JR. Barry Bonds, I'm not being facetious when I say this. He is so gifted. And I would say the same thing about Ted Williams.

Barry Bonds, to this day, could give you $240 at the plate, get on base over 300% of the time, that would be his on-base percentage, and could still slug, I would take $600, $700, to this day. That's how great he was. He didn't need the damn stare. He didn't need the cheating.

Yeah, well, he's a cheater. Let's just give him a hug. As a matter of fact, Roger Marish Jr., besides his tweet, this is the actual words that he used last week when Aaron Judge tied his dad.

Listen to this. I think it means a lot, not just for me, I think it means a lot for a lot of people. You know, that he's clean, he's a Yankee, he plays a game the right way, and I think it gives people a chance to look at somebody who should be revered for hitting 62 home runs, and not just as a guy who did it in the American League. He should be revered for being the actual single-season home run champ. I mean, that's really who he is if he hits 62, and I think that's what needs to happen. I think baseball needs to look at the records, and I think baseball should do something.

Damn, well, that was a week ago, and tonight, via Twitter, he decided to double down on that statement. I mean, well, Aaron Judge, he spoke after the game, by the way, the New York Yankees, they lost this second game, the final score there, 3-2. Aaron Judge, he hit his home run to lead the game off, and then he decided to, well, Aaron Boone decided to sit him down. Aaron Judge, he says he has enjoyed every minute of this experience. It's been a fun ride so far, getting a chance to do this with the team we got, the guys surrounding me, the constant support from my family who's been with me there through this whole thing.

It's been a great honor. Okay. Aaron Boone, his manager? There's so many damn Aaron's on the Yankees. Aaron Boone, Aaron Judge. Hey, Garron. Huh?

Hey, Garron. On the Yankees? There's so many Aaron's. There's Aaron Judge, Aaron Boone, Hank Aaron. No, on the Yankees. No, I get that. I was just saying Aaron galore tonight.

Yeah, you're confusing me. It's like we got Boone, Hicks, and Judge. Maybe there's another Aaron on the Yankees.

I don't know. We know that Hank is the greatest one. Hey, Aaron Boone, after the game, he says, yeah, we love Aaron Judge, and they were happy that they could all experience it with him. I think part of that is what we all feel about Aaron as a teammate, as a person, and how much he makes you feel really important to the feet, and I think that's just you saw an outpouring of a lot of people that love and respect him.

Yeah. I told you Aaron Judge, I've talked about this man with about two or three people today who don't know a damn thing about baseball. You know, someone saw him hit the home run tonight, and they go, well, he's big as hell. I said, yeah, he's bigger than all his teammates. I said, yeah, that's a big man. That's a big human being.

Gigantic. 855-212-4CBS. It's 855-212-4CBS. Matthew is calling from Arkansas. Shout-outs to everybody listening on the ticket. Matthew, you're on CBS Sports Radio. What's up? Hello, nothing. How are you, JR?

I'm okay. Wait and hear what's on your mind. You know, I just got to say, man, you know, I know you said you're not married, but I've been married for 14 years, and I married my wife for a remainder, you know, because I love her.

I want to spend time with her. You know, I got kids. I'm going through the same thing, except that I'm not making millions of dollars. I manage multiple restaurants. It means I work nights and weekends. I don't see my kids.

I'm looking for a job that I can spend more time with them. If I had something lined up, you bet your butt I'd be sitting at home, and I'd be spending more time with my wife and kids, and I think Tom Brady needs to, you know, figure out what he really wants in life. Is he going to play football for another year or two and get injured, or does he want to have a family to move out onto?

That's what I think. Are you crapping on Tom Brady and his personal choices? I mean, really? I mean, did he not get married for a reason?

I don't know about you, but I married for love, and I had kids because I wanted to spend time with them. Oh, well, I can't speak from experience. I mean, I just find it difficult to say that Tom Brady needs to go home and spend time with his wife and kids. We don't know what goes on in their house. Well, I know, but I mean, he's there for a reason. If not, then hey, let's cut the ties.

You said it's all, you know, public. Then why are we dragging it on? He needs to make his mind up, whether he wants to be there or not, right? Yeah, well, I think maybe his mind has been made for him, and it's just how it goes sometimes, right?

Say again, Matthew? I said, unfortunately, wives will do that for you sometimes. Yeah, well, I'm sure.

You said 14 years married? Yes, sir. What's the secret? Uh, listening.

Is that it? I always hear that you just got to keep the wife happy and everything is fine. Is that a lie or is that true?

No, I mean, that's true, man. You listen and make sure that you keep them happy, you know? In all honesty, though, you know, me and her, we compromised a lot. And it's because we actually married because we love each other and want to be with each other. So that's what really is.

That's beautiful. So let me ask you a question here. When people talk about the man's happiness, does it matter? Nobody cares about the man's happiness, right? Not necessarily.

I mean, about one or two days a year, you know, when it's Father's Day and my birthday. Oh, that's awful, man. That sounds like a bad deal, Matthew. I don't know about this marriage thing, but we'll see. I appreciate you for calling from Arkansas, man.

This is excellent advice. Yes, sir. Well, hey, you have a good night, JR. Well, thank you so much. Find me your wife. Let's go to David.

He's calling from Pittsburgh. Well, I don't want one of them. If it's going to be two days of happiness for me, screw that.

I'm going to be happy. Hey, Shep, how many days are in a year? Is it 365? Yeah, with the exception of one every four years where it's 366.

Yeah, I want to be happy 365 days a year. You and Pharrell. Oh, that song? Yes. Oh, my God.

How many? That song got played. Is that the most played song that we've ever had on earth? No, no.

And now it's The Weekend, Blinding Lights. If I heard it, I'd know it. You would know it, yes. But I feel like that Pharrell happy song, it's like you could go to a kindergarten class. You just, I don't. Well, Pharrell is happy. He's getting lots of money for many things. David is calling from Pittsburgh. You're on CBS Sports Radio. What's up, David? Hey, JR. Thanks for taking the call.

Hey, obviously, you mentioned, you know, as far as divorce, and it's very serious, and I'm really not making light of it. But before it gets to that point, if I were him, and here's a quick four-point plan, and a couple of them are pretty obvious. A four-point plan? He finishes the year off this year, and then he's retired for good. Now, this is if he wants to be with her. The second thing he does, he takes his kids and his wife to Disney World. The third thing that he does, he sends her flowers. And then, to me, this one's key. He's got to make sure she's listening to a particular radio station. And he calls and he dedicates a song to her, and the song's very important.

He's got to dedicate I Want You Back by the Jackson 5. So I just wanted to see what you thought of my plan, and I'll hang up and listen to your ear. Well, what are you, a modern-day doctor, Phil?

Where'd you get – you have experience doing this? Well, not on the marriage end, but, you know, hey, in all seriousness, they're talking about lawyers already. You have more of a platform than I do, and I'm not saying that you like my ideas, but I don't care who gets credit for it. If you think that you can get communication going with them, you've got a national platform, JR. Go for it.

Because, again, if we can keep them from getting divorced, that's a good thing for them and their kids. You know what, David? You are a beautiful man with a beautiful heart. I appreciate you for calling from Pittsburgh, okay? Thank you.

Thank you very much. Listen, David, it was serious. He's trying to help people's lives here one step at a time. I'm not that nice of a guy. I don't care what happens with Tom Brady. I wish nothing but the best.

Like, I'm not wishing harm on anybody. Nobody wants to be divorced. Who wants that? As many people across America say, I want to be divorced. What is the rate, 50 percent? People get married, people get divorced.

Not everybody is Tom Brady, though. He'd be a'ight. I've heard worse. 855-212-4CBS. That's 855-212-4CBS. Phone lines are still open. On the other side of the break, we'll talk about Matthew Stafford. No problems with him unless it's on the football field.

We'll get into Luka Doncic. We've just got a lot to do here on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the J.R. Sportbrief on CBS Sports Radio. Thank you for taking my call. I'm a huge fan. I listen to you every night on the way home from work. J.R., you are a great sports psychologist. Thank you very much, my brother, from another mother.

And I love you. Call in now at 855-212-4CBS. It's the J.R. Sportbrief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio. Sure, Tom Brady is taking many hits off of the field of play. His personal life is being battered in public and now there are rumors and reports that he and his wife have just both hired or are exploring divorce attorneys.

That sucks. But last night, Monday Night Football, we saw a couple of people who took some hits on the field of play. First of all, Matthew Stafford. This man was abused last night. Seven sacks in that loss that the Rams took at the hands of the 49ers.

Twenty four to nine. And Matthew Stafford, he's having a rough go around here. I mean, outside of identifying and throwing the ball to Cooper Cup, it's a hard knock life. Where's Alan Robinson? Just paid this guy. Where's the big games?

Where's the paychecks? And so we know that there was a lot of conversations about him moving from Detroit, going to Los Angeles. Can Matthew Stafford do it? Well, he did. He did more than it.

He won the Super Bowl. And sure, there's some times and some stretches where he's going to throw the ball to the other team. But he's still good, right?

He's not cooked, right? We're not going to draw this conclusion just based on what we've seen so far to start the year, right? After the game. And even today, Matthew Stafford, he talked to the media. He told everybody, listen, we could have been a whole lot better. Those games, we knew it was going to be a battle. We weren't good enough.

Myself, first and foremost, in the red zone, had some opportunities to put some points up and didn't get touchdowns there. And that's probably the difference in the game. We can execute better, whether it's throwing and catching or just assignment-wise.

So a lot to clean up. Proud of the way we fought. Give them a lot of credit.

It's a good football team. But like you said, one possession game. We make a critical error there and they capitalize on it.

And that was that. Yeah, well, there are times he's up, he's down. It's still early in the season. They will have a prime, prime opportunity to kind of keep things rolling. Prepare yourselves for the circus because the Cowboys are going to go ahead and take on the Rams next. The Rams have a chance and an opportunity to play against, I don't know, Cooper Rush. We've heard that Dak Prescott, you have to think about his hand, he may not be all the way ready to go out there, still potentially having some trouble with grip.

Matter of fact, just listen to Jerry Jones. He was on his normal hit on 105-3, the fan. Well, I know that it's better and I know that he's going to go out there every day and make progress toward being able to grip the ball. I don't know that you could ask for better news, technically, physically, and how it's responding at how it's healing, so to speak. Is he able to grip the football now? No, not well enough to play. A grip of the ball.

Okay. 855-212-4CBS, a grip the ball. Who the hell do we have here? Charlie's calling from Wisconsin. You're on CBS Sports Radio.

Grip the ball, Charlie. What's up? How are we doing tonight? Just JR?

It depends on what you're going to say. What's up, Charlie? I just got back from the brewery game. A tough game, but I went with like 20 buddies.

Wow. The reason I was calling here is, you know, it's October nowadays, but I'm from Minnesota, so I like to call it Kirktober. My quarterback is 3-0 for the first time in his entire career. I just kind of wanted your thoughts on the Vikings and how you think they're going to be this season with KOC. First year going here, what are your thoughts? Well, you know, I met Coach O'Connell up at the practice facility. I was at the practice facility a couple of months ago, and everybody treated me nice.

So I guess I'll never get another invite back based on what I'm going to tell you. I'm not thrilled with the Vikings. I know that Zimmer is out of the building and Coach O'Connell is now in there running the show. I'm not overly impressed with their victories.

They've been close in regards to the margin of victory. I can go ahead and take a look at Justin Jefferson. He's one of the most exciting players in the entire NFL. Kirk Cousins will get his numbers. It seems like the same situation over and over again.

But I'm not excited. The Vikings don't do it. They're average every year.

They're normal every year. Kirk Cousins is too careful. I know so far this season he has six touchdowns, four INTs. But he's not overly aggressive. Maybe things will change by the time we get later on in the season.

But it seems that he's OK with being OK and that he doesn't really go out there and push the issue on anything. You don't think he can get over the hump this year? Man, I feel like Kirk Cousins, the only hump that he gets over is the financial one. Wow. That hurts as a longtime Vikings fan to hear me say that. I'm sorry.

I'm just being honest, Charlie. Do you believe Kirk Cousins is going to do something magically different than what we've seen for the past, I don't know, five, six, seven, eight years? I mean, I dear God hope so. We need a title up in Minnesota. It's getting lonely up there.

Yeah, I know. It's been a long time. Hey, how's Karl-Anthony Towns doing? I heard he was sick. I'm not a big T-wolves fan, to be honest with you. Do you like Alex Rodriguez? Yeah, he's fine up there, whatever.

Yeah, screw the basketball. I'm more of a J-Lo guy, if you know what I mean. Oh, wow. And Alex Rodriguez hates your guts.

He don't like you either then. OK. Well, thank you, Charlie. Thank you. I appreciate it. No doubt. Good luck to the Vikings.

They need it. They need a new quarterback, but they got to keep paying this guy to do nothing. Brandon is calling from Dallas. You're on the JR Sportbree show. What's up, Brandon? Yeah, I'm doing good. I want to talk about the Cowboys today. OK, you're on the radio. Go for it. Yes, sir.

All right, my man. So what do you guys think about this game against the Rams? I honestly, I think we have a better defense. You know, the way Matthew Schnabel was playing this last game, I think that the Cowboys honestly can probably take the game. Probably a close game, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised. I think that the Rams are definitely going to try to come out and make a statement, especially after the way they lost last night.

We all have to run around and try to figure out how long the Cooper Rush magic comes across. We just heard from Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott is in the process of just everyday gripping the ball and we don't know his status. And yes, if you want to go ahead and look at the defense of the Rams versus the defense of the Dallas Cowboys, these are still two teams that have stars on every level of the defense. Is Von Miller there anymore? No, he's not.

This man is now up in Buffalo. And so, yeah, you can make the argument as of right now that the Dallas Cowboys have more impact players on defense. And it should be a good game. Would I be shocked or surprised if Aaron Donald was sitting on Cooper Rush? No, I would not be.

Not at all. So it should be a fun, interesting game. But I would go ahead and give the Rams the edge. Yeah, they're at home, correct? Yeah, they're at home, but we know home in Los Angeles is a little bit different than... It's like the Cowboys' home over there, you know what I'm saying? You know what happened when they filled up the Chargers stadium last year? It was crazy. Correct, yeah.

People in Los Angeles have better things to do than sit in traffic and drive to a football game. I get it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what I'm saying.

I've never been over there, but yeah. Yeah, I'm not high on Cooper Rush. He's good. He's holding down the fort, but... He's good enough to keep the offense going, you know what I'm saying? He's got the confidence.

And I think that's where he's good, and I think that's where it stops. So, look, if Aaron Donald treats him like a rag doll, then we'll all be having a different conversation come next week, you know? Yeah, man. If he has a bad game or not, or no, I'll take it, man. Hey, by any means possible, right?

Yeah, correct, my man. I think he's taking the call. Oh, absolutely, Brandon. Thank you for calling from Dallas. Hey, shout-outs to all my folks in the Metroplex. I haven't been to Dallas in a minute. I feel like I'm always in Houston. I need to go to Dallas.

Somebody invite me. Jake is calling from Alaska. What's up, Jake? Hey, I can't invite you to Dallas, but I can invite you to Alaska. I've been there. Come on up, I mean. I've been dog sledding up there. I've been to Anchorage and Willow. I've been.

I think you told me that last time I called, but anyways. Yeah, come to Atlanta. You been to Atlanta? I haven't.

We can go to Blue Flame. You know what that is? No idea. Okay, don't worry about it.

But what else you got? So I think the direct reason why Giselle is winning the divorce from Tom Brady was this last season because she's on record saying that she just feels uneasy watching him take hits and stuff. You know, he finally decided to say, hey, I'm done.

I'm retired. And then they were probably around each other a little more than usual. And she's like, oh God, I hate this guy.

And now he's coming back. And she's like, you know what? I make quadruple the amount of money that you do. So see you later. Okay. All right. How about that? That's interesting, Jake.

I would think that she would want a husband home, but maybe you got a spy cam in a house? No, but I mean people when they're that rich, you know, money is involved more than love and come on. Okay, I don't know. I can't relate.

Maybe it's true. I don't have seven Super Bowl rings. Not married to Giselle. Okay.

All right. So she's probably like, you know, you got seven retire. Then he's like, all right, I'm done. Oh, no, I'm going back. Oh, I'm done.

He'd rather get his brains rattled than rattled at home. But anyway, thank you, Jake, for calling from Alaska. Tim is here from Maryland. Go ahead, Tim, quickly.

Hey, JR, real quick. I just wanted to say, first off, that the Aaron Judge thing is just unbelievable. I just I was rooting for that guy so much.

You know, I wanted him to get that record so bad. And the other thing is, I didn't know you weren't married, man. I've got a sister that's single. Why is she single? Why is she single? Well, because she can't find the right man. What's wrong with her? What's wrong with her? Why would something be wrong with her?

Because she's single. I don't know. What's wrong with you? I'm just trying to I'm trying to help you out, brother. Okay, I don't know what. Hey, Shep, help me out here.

I don't know what I'm doing. No, I'm just saying I heard you say earlier you weren't you weren't married. I thought you were married and you said you weren't married and all that. And I thought, well, you know, I got a sister that's single.

I thought maybe I can try to help you out. That's all. Maybe. Hey, Shep. Hey, Shep. Yes. The hell you hanging out in the back?

I know you heard me. Do you maybe do you want do you want to date a Shep? I mean, I don't know. Tim, honestly, man, I'm not in J.R.'s league.

We all know that. Would I want to date Tim's sister? I mean, Tim, you sound you're a good man.

You call the show. You're an avid sports fan. You're knowledgeable. I'd be an idiot to turn down any open invitation. If she's ever in New York City, I'd be happy to take her out for a drink. She is a wonderful, wonderful person. She has got the heart of a giant. I mean, she's she's a beautiful person. Is she a giant?

Any man would love to marry her. I'm just trying to help you out, J.R. But let me say this, though. I don't think but I don't think J.R. I don't think he needs like I don't think he needs a push, though.

Like J.R. is an eligible bachelor. OK. Well, you know, I thought I might throw in my little olive branch, you know, just. Oh, OK. I like branches.

How big are they? You know, I mean, I'm just trying to be a good guy. Oh, you're a good man. I love your show, man.

I listen to it every night. I'm going home from work once again. Can I just say for the record, I just want to know when the conversation with J.R. and the boss is actually going to take place. That's what I want to know tonight. Well, I tell you the truth. I would love that that conversation to happen because I can't even believe, Shep, that you remembered that.

That I said that. Why not? Why would we forget? Why would he forget? I don't know. I don't know. I just don't think people remember. Remember me like that. This is. Oh, no, no.

We remember this is this is more important, though. What is going to happen? Me and you, are we going to be brother? What is that?

Brother in law? Is that how that works? Oh, yeah, absolutely. Now, now she's like like fifty five. And I know you're a lot younger. So, yeah, I don't know if I'm interested anymore. OK, well, that's fine. I just thought like I just I was just going to put it out there. Just offer it to you, you know, just, you know, offer it to me.

Well, tell us how I said hi. OK, I will. I will do that. I will do that. That's all I say. Don't giggle. Just tell her I said hi.

No, I will tell her you said I promise you I will. I just think, you know, I just thought I'd throw that out there. Well, thank you, Tim. I appreciate you, man.

I'll talk to you soon. I love your show, man. And I love you, too. My future brother in law.

Thank you, Tim, for calling from Maryland. Hey, listen, I'm here for all of the single sisters. OK, bring your sisters.

Bring them to me. I love the sisters. Eight five five two one two four CBS. That's eight five five two one two four CBS. You are listening to the J.R. Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. J.R., it's always a pleasure to hear you because you know your product.

You really do a great job by not distorting what the cars are saying. Call in now at eight five five two one two four CBS. It's the J.R. Sport Brief Show here with you on CBS Sports Radio.

Eight five five two one two four CBS. We've talked about a lot tonight. Aaron Judge. Tom Brady. Matthew Stafford. We talked about Kenny Pickett.

It's a full time job for Kenny Pickett now with the Pittsburgh Steelers. We talked about the Braves. They won the National League East. The Mets. They looking up.

They will permanently be looking up. They have to go to the wild card game. Meanwhile, the the Braves get a bye. Good for them. Good for those Atlanta Braves.

What am I looking at? Hold on a second. Matter of fact, here's the final call from that Braves game, courtesy of the Braves Radio Network. Two two in the air to right field. Ronald Acuna back.

Ronald is under it. The Braves have won it again for the fifth year in a row. The Braves are champions of the National League East. What a team. Yeah, they trying to go back to back, man.

Good for them. Sucks for the Mets. I know the Mets fans are just. I can tell you this as someone who broadcast to WFAN in New York City. Saturday afternoons.

Yeah, I work six days a week. That fans are miserable, man. A lot of them are miserable. They always waiting for the sky to fall and Mets have had to deal with injuries. The Braves have been able to call up young guys throughout the course of the season who've been able to help out and they trying to go back to back. Let's see what happens tomorrow, Wednesday, depending on where you live. Maybe already tomorrow, but Wednesday, we have now come down to the final day of the Major League Baseball season. Time flies when we get to the top of the hour. Matter of fact, we're going to talk about something that's getting ready to begin.

Damn it. Next week. That's the NBA season. Basketball is going to be in full swing.

We have a lot, a lot of executives who decided to share their anonymous thoughts on who is going to be the MVP, etc. And so we'll talk about that next hour. Let's get some of your calls before we get there. 855-212-4CBS. Rich is calling from Chicago. What's up, Rich? I was just in Chicago. Hey, good. You should have given me a call.

What are we going to do? Yeah, no, I live right in the city. I live in Old Town. So there's a lot to do here. Yeah, I know.

The city gets me in trouble, but go ahead. It's been a lot of trouble. Hey, look, I want to talk quarterbacks, but I want to talk about fields. And I'm concerned because, you know, I've always, I was pretty excited about them have following him, him falling into their lap in the draft and moving up to get them because obviously, this town needs a franchise quarterback since they haven't had one for about 50 years.

But, you know, here's, here's the reason I want to get your opinion when I'm through here and I'll be brief. But the draft this year, the new, the new regime, the Pope and Eberfluss didn't help them in the draft. They drafted defense.

That's right. They drafted one down the third round. Do I don't like and that's Vils Jones out of Tennessee. He managed to muff a punt is only appearance so far this year and turned it into a touchdown for the other team.

That was against the Giants. He's not the answer either. But here's, here's the reason I'm concerned. He's actually regressed fields.

Normally, you know, this normally between the first year, your rookie year and the second year, this shows some exponential growth. Most really outstanding quarterbacks and there's plenty that you can use as examples do extremely well. But here's this problem. I want to turn it over to you on when I go through this. And I can tell you this because I played, I played the position in high school and I know the position inside out.

I don't have a talent of adjusting field and don't allege to brush. I understand the game inside out. But here's, here's some of his problems and they become really obvious.

Okay. Can't read the defense on a pre snap. We have other words, the ball. Yeah, he goes a lot of scrimmage.

You can look at the defensive formation and know they don't trust him to check down. Sure. The ball. What's what you got for me, Rich?

What's the question? Your take on Justin Fields and his future, given he's last in every measurable area. Well, I'm not I'm not high on his future. There's a couple of reasons. You pretty much stated and named one of them. This isn't the group that, A, drafted him. B, this man doesn't have help.

C, they might have said, let's just throw him to the wolves. If it doesn't work out, we can go ahead and expedite this fast forward and try to bring in our own guy. But this is really no different. And it's ironic that the Bears and the Giants that they they went out there and played against each other because they're, they're two teams in similar spaces. You have Daniel Jones on one hand, you have Justin Fields on the other. Neither one is basically running around with guys who believed in them and selected them.

And it's the New York Giants might be a little bit closer to, quote unquote, running the well dry and giving Daniel Jones the boot. But if you think about this from a management perspective, it's like any other job in any other place. You want to be able to hang your hat on people that you bring in, people that you believe in and people that you trust. And you don't do anything but save your own behind. You save your own behind. You get a job.

You say, oh, this person is here. I'm going to see how they perform. And if they don't perform, if it doesn't work, then I'm going to get a clean slate. And so the the quote unquote rebuild for the Bears, I'm sorry for my fans and friends in Chicago.

This ain't it. They're going to wipe the slate clean. This man did not get any type of help in the offseason. I looked at who they drafted and what they added. I said, what did they do?

And I came to the conclusion that the answer is nothing. Is there going to be a miracle on the other side of the rest of the season? I don't think so. I think this is going to be another unfortunate situation. It's not probably going to be this year, but they are going to wring this poor guy dry, Justin Fields. And I don't think we'll see him or we have seen him in a position to go out there and even succeed. I mean, we can talk about his own his own failings, of which there are some.

They do exist. He doesn't have experience. He needs to learn how to stay in the pocket and actually deliver the football before he decides to go out there and just run. And thank you, Rich, for calling from Chicago.

We won't find out. It really sucks. I think I think he'll fail in Chicago. And it's not one of those situations where it will be all his fault. You actually do have to get drafted by a team that that can help you grow.

You have to have talent. You have to be in a situation to go out there and prove it. Fields is not.

And I don't need to get into the whole story of, oh, my God, here we go. Chicago still looking for that quarterback. For whatever reason, it's not happening. It's mind boggling to me.

How a city like Chicago, a city like New York. How come these two teams can't get a QB, specifically the Jets? Maybe Zach Wilson is that guy. He had a tale of two halves against the Steelers on on Sunday. But you asking me about Fields? Listen, NFL Sunday, I got about five different games going on.

I got every game going on at one time. The Bears. They're on a small part of the screen that I go, oh, yeah, I'll check in on them every now and then. Oh, they're getting their asses whooped.

OK. It's the JR Sport Reshow here on CBS Sports Radio. Phone lines are open. We're going to talk about the upcoming NBA season. We come back.

The execs are talking.
