You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief on CBS Sports Radio. And we are coming to you live from the Rocket Mortgage studios when you need cash out of your home and a simple way to get it.

Rocket can. I'm going to be here with you for three more hours. The JR Sport Brief Show here on CBS Sports Radio. It gets started at 10 p.m. Eastern, 7 Pacific. I'm being joined by super producer and host, Dave Shepherd. And everybody listening on the free Odyssey app. Everybody listening on your local CBS Sports Radio affiliate. People listening on Sirius XM Channel 158.

And everybody listening on a smart speaker. It's been a busy day in the world of sports. Busy, busy, busy. I mean, damn it. Even right now in the studio, as I broadcast here with you, we got a college football game go.

We got a couple of them specifically for me right now. I'm watching just Pittsburgh and West Virginia. They hate each other. This game is back and forth right now this minute. Pittsburgh. Pitt. They lead 38 to 31. Two minutes left in the game.

And why not? Great rivalry. Let's see who comes out on top. Earlier on in the day, two big things went down. In the afternoon, Donovan Mitchell, which traded from the Utah Jazz to the Cleveland Cavaliers, not the New York Knicks. Cavs have an amazing roster. We talked about it last hour. We were also joined by Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com and of 92.3, the fan.

And he came through and dropped knowledge. The Cavs are going to look real good. Not just this upcoming season, multiple seasons into the future. So we talked about the Cavs. We talked about the impact for Mitchell and we'll get into the Knicks later on in the show. And then the big news that came down the pipe early this morning was that Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos came to an agreement on a contract extension.

We'll talk about it amongst many other things. If you want to know what's going on with the show, you can always follow me. That's at JR Sport Brief and the phone lines here for CBS Sports Radio. It's 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. This is a beautiful time of year. As I mentioned in the first hour, this is football season. Basketball will be back soon. Hockey will be back soon. Next month, yes, I can say next month because it's now September, next month we're going to crown a World Series champion. We have the U.S. Open going on right now. I don't just watch Pittsburgh.

I look on the other screen and I see Rafael Nadal playing right now. And so it is a busy, busy time of the year. And if you're a sports fan, yeah, enjoy the beach, get in the beach, get in vacation, but get ready to park your ass because there's going to be a lot of sports every day. Something will be on to watch as things start to open up, seasons start to start or get going, I should say, over the next few weeks.

Busy time of year. And so before the season before the season got started, we have learned that the Denver Broncos, who acquired Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks earlier this year, that they had a deadline before the season got started. They wanted to come to an agreement on a contract extension.

Let's also keep in mind that the Denver Broncos were recently sold to the Walton family of Wal-Mart fame. And so less than a month after buying the team, formalizing the process to purchase the squad, Russell Wilson already has a contract extension. It was announced today that the two deals or excuse me, the two years he actively had on his deal, they tacked on another five, $245 million. If you have to think about that, that average per season, he's paid really per year on average only second now to Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers is making 50 per and now Russell Wilson slots in at 49 per.

Here's something that stood out to me. We know Deshaun Watson, he took a deal $230 million overall. Every dollar and every cent is guaranteed. Kyler Murray got a $230 million deal. All of his money's not guaranteed.

Only 189 of that 230 years. And in Russell Wilson's case, 245, only 165 is guaranteed. And so what, is Russell Wilson just a good guy? Is he just saying to the Broncos, well, I'm not worried about the guaranteed money? And why would any of these guys be worried about money outside of ego?

Was he doing them a favor? I've seen some agents even come out and say, well, there must be some other deal on the back end. And Russell Wilson is being a, a company guy. I know that there are some players who aren't happy that Russell Wilson decided to take quote unquote less guaranteed money because of the effect that it would potentially have on other quarterbacks. And the reality is Deshaun Watson might be the only guy, he might be the outlier to get that 230 guaranteed.

I know Lamar Jackson is paying a lot of attention. And so Russell gets his deal. Not only was he traded, he got his extension. And I've heard and seen conversations about whether or not the Broncos were or needed to extend him. Come on now.

Nonsense. This was just a formality. They had no choice, but to extend him. The Denver Broncos have been looking for a quarterback since they picked up, well, at that point in time, a noodle arm, Peyton Manning, and won a Super Bowl. They weren't going to win one without finding or establishing and having someone who actually did win a Super Bowl and Russell.

And so yes, you keep him. And for right now, Russell is second with $49 million. Give it a year. Russell Wilson will fall back into the pack per se. People were up in arms about Dak Prescott getting $40 million a year.

That was only two years ago. And now we got guys making 45, 46, 49, 50. Dak Prescott looks like he's playing on a deal right now. Nobody's going to worry about Russell Wilson and his $49 million per season when Herbert and Burrow are breaking the bank at 55 plus. I mean, it was only 2019 that Russell Wilson got his deal and he was the highest paid quarterback at the time and he was clocking $35 million per year.

Just think about how fast, how quickly the market changes, how quickly it has changed for quarterbacks, and it's going to continue to move in that direction. Russell Wilson spoke to the media. Of course he did. And he was asked about this contract. He was asked specifically why he didn't break the bank, why he didn't go for the guaranteed money. Ultimately, why with his new deal with the Denver Broncos, he didn't decide to reset the market. Listen to me, what it's really about is being able to win championships and being able to have enough space in the salary caps so George can make his magic and we can get guys like Randy Gregory when he comes on the team or other great players. And I think that we want to make this a destination location.

I think that it's one of those things we have amazing tradition, amazing football team. I don't know if I want to go that far. Over the next couple of seasons, and when I say couple, his extension doesn't kick in for another two years, but immediately. You know, $24 million this year. $27 million in next season, and then that that extension starts to kick in. Russell Wilson will probably see all of his money, even if it's not all guaranteed, so there's not a worry there. But the thought or idea that Russell is not breaking the bank and he's saving cap space.

Oh, it sounds nice, but come on. If he wanted to save cap space, he wouldn't have gone to 49 million. He wouldn't have quote unquote settled for making on average $1 million less than Aaron Rodgers. And so to me that just sounds like a bunch of let me pat myself on the back.

Type speech. And then in addition to that, Russell Wilson said, and we know this. He's excited for his future in Denver, and why wouldn't he be?

He left the Seahawks. Listen to be in the locker room with the guys to be on the field and you know, just have a great time with guys. We had an amazing dinner last night with a bunch of guys, you know, vets and just it's been an amazing journey. Like I said, it's it's really more so about this football team than me.

It's really just about what we can do together and where we're going. He always says the right. Hey, well, let me let me not say that. Let me not say that. I was going to say Russell Wilson always says the right thing.

They sound like a broken record. Was that the question? No, no, the question was, it was going to be. When has he ever said anything that was just negative? Never. When has he ever said anything that that wasn't positive?

Never. But I do recall all of last off season when the rumors started to come out, and they weren't rumors. It was him and his agents testing the waters, putting out the information about how he would be willing to go here and then Russell refuting the report. And, you know, not wanting to come across as the bad guy.

And and that's that's that's the MO. And that was the first time I would say last season when it was clear that Russell Wilson wants it out and off of the Seahawks that we got a little bit of. Oh, he wants to leave, but he's never going to come out and say it. He doesn't want to be portrayed as the bad guy. And so they seeded out these stories and and Russell feigned ignorance in regards to what he knew and did not know.

And I didn't do this and I didn't do that. And then he went into his final season with the Seahawks. And unfortunately, Seahawks had their first losing record with Russell at the helm.

He missed his first set of games with a broken digit on his hand. And now he's gone. He got what he wanted.

He's away from Pete Carroll. And now he has plenty of reason to celebrate. And so, yeah, Russell is always saying the right thing. He's always Mr. Mr. Positive. And I mean, dammit, he's he's not even just Mr.

Positive. A few years ago, you know, he was on social media. And what did he call himself, Shep? Mr. What? Oh, you know the answer, Jayar. But I forgot. No, I forgot. Oh, Mr.

Unlimited? Is that is that what it is? Well, he didn't just call himself that. He had some company as well. Oh, no, let's hear it. Hey, guys, Russell here.

Yes, the typical boring. Yes, Russell, the robot, Russell, the one you guys love to know. A real, real exciting. You know, I'm real excited. But anyways, everybody has to have an alter ego. Right. And I've been thinking about what my alter ego would be. And I think I have an alter ego. His name.

His name's Mr. Mr. Mr. Unlimited. Yeah, you got to be unlimited.

You got to have a thought process of being unlimited. So thank you. Thank you for Thank you for stopping. Thank you. He's Mr.

Positive, but he's also Mr. Unlimited. I didn't need it. That sounds like a poor skit on SNL keeps it keeps keeps going, by the way. No, no, I didn't. I was done after the first one. I didn't need I didn't need more of it. Mr. Bet you missed the best part of the whole video, though. No, I didn't. You know what I'm talking about? I don't he said Mr.

Unlimited 50 million more times. No, I understand that. But he has company.

It's a it's a it's a duet. And I don't need to hear Sierra. Got it.

Not interested. If I want to hear Sierra, I listen to goodies. I don't. I don't need to hear Sierra.

I don't. I don't need to hear more of her music or lose control. I don't I don't need to hear her. But what do I need to hear Sierra for? I'm shocked at that because she's one of the most beautiful human beings to ever walk the face of the earth.

What is that? Well, there's plenty of beautiful people out here. What does that have to do with me hearing her? I like her. Yeah, but but me hearing her, what is it supposed to do for me? You know, I like that there was a rejoin about 10 minutes ago and it basically said for JR, you know, I hear your voice and I get in a mood. I get excited. I think a million people and I'm lowballing feel that way when they hear Russell Wilson's wife's voice, not Russell, his wife. Okay. He makes everything better. I feel like I've heard her voice for the better part of I don't know 15 years now.

She doesn't do anything for me. Fair enough. Anyway, when it comes down to Russell, it didn't just stop there. He's not just Mr. Unlimited. When he joined the Broncos, he was, you know, he went from Mr. Unlimited to telling everybody let's ride.

I guess he's genuine. Take a listen. Let's ride. Broncos. Let's ride.

Perfect. One more time. Broncos country. Let's ride. Broncos country. Let's ride. Broncos country. Let's ride. Broncos country. Let's ride. Broncos country.

Let's ride. Yeah, well, he's going to be riding with Broncos country all the way through the 2028 season and whether he's going on about being Mr. Unlimited or whether he's shooting promotional videos for the Denver Broncos about riding the imaginary horses in Denver. This is a good move. Russell Wilson is building himself and has started to put together a Hall of Fame career.

This is someone who's looking in the face of being 34 years old. He still has a lot of game left in him. He's going to be protected. He has offensive weapons. He's hoping to not be a pinata now that he's out of Seattle. And this is a beautiful spot for him.

So even though the AFC West is probably the toughest division in football, in the long run the Broncos should still be competitive. Russell Wilson, he's in a spot where he can actually flourish and shout outs to my main man Dalton Reisner who will be the main guy or one of the guys tasked with protecting him and keeping him upright. This is a good move. And so as much as I can talk about Mr. Unlimited and riding horses and in Sierra and we can listen to him sound like a school professor, he's what you want in a quarterback. He's someone that you can trust. He's someone that you know will go ahead and execute the play. He is someone who can still get out and run when necessary. He is someone who throws one of the best deep balls in the game and people can harp on, well he extends plays for too long.

Well that may not necessarily have to be the case playing in Denver. And so he gets disparaged a lot of times because of his personality, a lot of times because of the corniness, but there's not a damn thing wrong with this man when he steps out onto the football field. He is someone, he is the type of quarterback that you do want to have at the helm of a championship squad. Was he the leader of the team with the Legion of Boom? The answer was no. Was he the best guy on the squad when they won a Super Bowl?

The answer is no. And realistically they easily could have won two of them. When the defense dissolved, you want to know why this team was still able to compete and win? You want to know why they were able to stay above 500 and not have a losing season until last year?

It's him. It's Russell Wilson. They brought a lot of guys in that did not work out. They signed and traded for guys who would show up and be broke and hide Jamal Adams. They didn't protect him, had him running for his life.

The running game, as much as they tried and wanted to, you know after beast mode guys would come and go and get hurt and leave, not live up to the hype. Russell is gone and now he's somewhere where he can actually flourish. Is he the best quarterback in the NFL? The answer is no. Is he still one of the best quarterbacks capable of taking you to a championship?

The answer is yes. And so we can all joke about Russell Wilson. There are a lot of teams that would love, absolutely love to have him. And sometimes when it comes down to football, especially his current situation and how he won a championship and what's taken place, he doesn't get the respect that he deserves. This man is going into the hall of fame.

He is certainly on that trajectory when you think about what he's accomplished and how much more he still has left in front of him. The phone lines are open. That's 855-212-4CBS.

That's 855-212-4CBS. Russell Wilson just got paid $245 million over five years. He's gone from Seattle. He's now in Denver. He's getting paid again, once again, like one of the best quarterbacks in the game because he is.

Man, I remember watching King Kong Ortiz in uh in Brooklyn a few years ago against Deontay Wilder. Had a front row seat to that. Deontay Wilder was getting beat up there and then he came back and he beat up King Kong and so that's gonna be a hell of a slugfest between Andy Ruiz and King Kong Ortiz this upcoming Sunday night for all my fight fans out there.

I'm gonna be watching. I love watching people get punched in the head. As long as it's not me, I'm fine with it. It's dangerous.

This is their choice is what they do. Shep, how much money would it take for you to get punched in the head by uh King Kong Ortiz? Uh that's a good question. I would do it for a thousand. You would get punched in the head for a thousand dollars? I would. Okay, just does it matter what time? I could put my hands up and guard myself, right? I don't think it's gonna make a difference. Okay, I'll do it for a thousand.

I can have that arranged now. It's a point of pride for me, you know? It's a professional fighter. I'll take my chances.

To get punched by King Kong Ortiz? Okay. Yeah. All right.

I don't know if you'll wake up to see uh the one thousand dollars but that's besides the point. Let me tell you, if Floyd Mayweather can go you know 20 plus years without losing a fight the way he punches, I think I can take one punch and live to tell about it. Okay.

That's just me though. Okay but I didn't forget about Bubba Ray Dudley whooping your ****. I didn't forget about that. I wouldn't expect you to but the words whooping my **** and fifty something doesn't go in the same sentence, JR. Okay, all right. Well, well, I'll remind him of that.

What what were you asking me? No, no, what I was just saying was I love some Bronx bomber. Deontay Wilder, man. Good dude. Humble.

It's good to see humble fighters these days. Yeah. No, Deontay, well, Deontay's a good dude. I like Deontay.

Very good. I've never had a I've I've actually spoken to his wife at times too. Uh I actually challenged Deontay Wilder to a fight and he did not want to participate. He didn't. And no people I'm not. Wow. I'm not joking. I'm serious. There's there's photographic evidence of me challenging him to a fight and he ain't want no part of it. But it was it was in good fun. He didn't take your offer as being serious, right?

Well, you'd have to ask him that. Okay. But you're a strong dude. You're you're an athlete but I mean that's this man is a this man is a foot taller than me. Yeah.

He's a foot taller than most of us. Yeah, I'm not I'm not full of listen. I can challenge him to a fight if whether he not he accepts is his business. I like to instigate fights. I think I shared this story. I had one of my friends. Uh you know, no, I uh I tried to get Jon Jones to beat up one of my friends because he used to wrestle.

He used to wrestle at Rutgers University and I introduced him to Jon Jones and I said, hey, John, he said he could whoop your **** and yeah, my friend had a nervous laugh and I just kinda stood there. So, don't worry about it, Shep. I'll make sure nobody beats you up, okay? Thank you, sir.

You're welcome. Speaking of people getting beat up, Russell Wilson, I don't know. Maybe he got beat up in school. Maybe he didn't. I don't know.

I assume not. He's a football player but now he is a wealthy football player. He's a football player on a hall of fame trajectory. He is a football player right now who will be making 245 million dollars over the next 5 years. He's a football player who'll be making close to 300 million dollars over the next 7 years as he as he's now a member of the Denver Broncos.

No longer in Seattle and sometimes I think people listen and look and pay attention to what he says and how he says it and they go, okay, Russell, we get it. You're mister unlimited. You're mister let's ride. You're mister good guy. Say all the right things at the right time. Carry yourself the right way and there's nothing wrong with that. For some of the **** that we have not just in sports but in the world, it's good to see somebody just go out there and ultimately just do their job.

Do it at an efficient level. Not be a headache, not be a head case but actually be a a decent example. That's Russell Wilson and so sometimes I feel because of how he speaks, how he carries himself, how he moves around, that people just kind of dismiss him.

Whether or not it's because of the defenses that that led him to a championship, it's he was a young player or whether it's because of how he exited out of Seattle, I didn't I didn't care for it last year when he was doing the whole, oh, I didn't ask to leave but if I am gonna leave, I I wouldn't mind going here. Oh, I didn't say that. My agent did it. Like, that's that's whack. You wanna leave then just say it, damn it. Don't want anybody to say anything bad about you. You you don't wanna have that on your image. You wanna be the good guy and I've seen this up close and personal myself. I have no problem with Russell Wilson but you know, it's just like there's always 50 million people around him and you know, it's like, hey, before he takes two steps or or does anything, yeah, can I do it?

Can I do it? Like, man, just act like a human. He's in that Hollywood realm but when it comes down to football and what he does and what he brings to a team, I don't think he gets the respect that he deserves and I think he's in a good spot in Denver for a new ownership group with new young wide receivers. Hopefully, these guys keep their ACLs intact between Hamler and Patrick and feel like somebody breaks something and rips something every year.

They're going to be fine. Russell will be fine and the Broncos now have a legitimate quarterback. What are your thoughts on Russell?

Does he get the love that he deserves? 855-212-4CBS. Corey's calling from Seattle. You're on the JR Sport reef show. How you guys doing?

Good. I mean, I've seen Russell firsthand. I'm a Seahawks fan. The guy will tell you everything you want to hear basically and but behind closed doors, I've heard that Russ is really hard to work with. He wants everything his way. He wants the offense, ran his way. I mean, he had to say a little comment about the Seahawks. He's glad he's not carrying the team on his shoulders and what are you talking about, dude?

If anything, your first Super Bowl, you got carried. So, I mean, I don't know. It's just, I don't, I got no hard feelings for the guy. He did great for Seattle and won the Super Bowl. I mean, I feel like it just gets talked about a lot. I probably will boo him on Monday. I'm not going to lie. Just because.

So, is this, yes, as the season for most people who aren't familiar, when the season opens, yes, it will be Denver and Seattle. So, let me ask you this, Corey. Is, you said no hard feelings. Is this a matter of sour grapes?

Did you feel this way about him last season or the year before that? Um, I feel like it's just kind of Russ has been trying to get his way out of Seattle here the last couple years and he finally did it. Uh, yeah. I mean, there's really no hard feelings. It's whatever. Okay.

Well, it's, it's a hell of a whatever when you got Geno Smith and Drew Locke as your quarterbacks. It's like, I don't know. What's an amazing restaurant? I don't, I don't eat at amazing restaurants. Hmm. Del Frisco.

It's like going, who? Del Frisco? Yeah, you like that, right? Yeah. Del Frisco. I'm not a big, I'm not a big steak guy.

Got it. Del Frisco's, Ruth Chris Steakhouse. Yeah.

I like going to nice restaurants, but none of the, none of the chain ones like that. But it's like, it's like going from, uh, Del Frisco's to, uh, you know, Mickey D's. Sorry. Geno Smith is McDonald's. Uh, Hey, how about this? Logan is calling from San Diego. You're on CBS sports radio. What's up, Logan? Hey, what's going on, man? What's on your mind?

Hey, thanks for having me on. You know what? I'll say an unbiased opinion. I'm not a Broncos fan. I'm not a Seahawks fan, but I probably, I got three points for this.

One is I am from Minnesota and I know how we value a Super Bowl. And the guy does have one Super Bowl, right? And he's only a couple inches away from two.

Yeah. We can start naming some quarterbacks that have one Super Bowl. There's a, you know, back to back MVP. He's only got one, right?

How many does Brett, Brett, Brett, Brett, Brett, two, the far one. One. Thank you. I'm going to use your stats here. Okay.

How many months can I have how many to Montana have to what soup? Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Goodness gracious. You're getting excited here, man. What are you doing?

When he thought, uh, Montana had one Super Bowl and knew we were off to a rough start. Whoa. What is he doing? Put a potty mouth on that guy.

People in San Diego are so nice. Go reign him in. Yeah. Russell Wilson has one Super Bowl. We can go down the list. Dan Marino has none.

Okay. Eli Manning has two. Tom Brady has almost all of them. We get it.

Russell Wilson has one. Not everybody gets it. We get it. Watch your mouth next time on the radio potty mouth. It's the JR sport brief show here with you on CBS sports radio. We're going to take a break.

We come back. I'm going to get some more of your calls here on Russell Wilson. There's a lot of opinions. We have one guy who says, Oh, he's just all lip service. He says what you want to hear. This guy just said, well, he, at least he won one. What do you think? Does he get the respect and credit that he deserves? I don't think he does.

And that has nothing to do with the legion of boom. It's the JR sport ratio, CBS sports radio. You're listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio.

You're listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio. Hey, uh, Jr. Thanks for having me on.

Uh, first time caller. You got a great show. I really like your show. You're really patient. And I think you're really objective. Call in now at eight five five two one two four CBS.

Well, thanks. Not tough for me to be objective. Like I'm only on one payroll here and that's CBS sports radio. I don't like anybody that damn much. I don't like a team that damn much where I can't be objective. I don't care. Nobody's giving me a super bowl ring or a bonus.

I don't care. Eight five five two one two four CBS. That's eight five five two one two four CBS. Someone who is familiar with the super bowl bonus.

Someone who is familiar with the super bowl ring is Russell Wilson. He only has one. He could have had two. But the fact is, this man is a winner. He's just one.

Legion of Boom after Legion of Boom. And yeah, same team. No, still one of the best. No, but they've really still been competitive because of him, even when he's been treated like a pinata. And so unfortunately, I feel a lot of people hang their hat on the fact of oh, well, when he won a Super Bowl, the defense led him there. Well, and what happened after they still would win? Would they be championship contenders?

No, but they still would go out there and be competitive, especially when defense pretty much broke up and fell apart and got cut, released and everything else. And so sometimes because of his personality, sometimes because of his cheeriness and his always positive attitude. And sometimes because of his early start in the NFL where he wasn't doing at all.

Sometimes I think Russell Wilson just people beat him up sometimes. I don't know, just just oh, he's not doing this. He's not doing that. He only won because of this.

He's a damn good quarterback. You don't accumulate and do what he's done. You don't win the win. He's done. You don't win the way he's won every year except for last year when he broke his finger.

You don't do that by being a bum or scrub. And so is he going to the Super Bowl this year with the Denver Broncos? No, I'd be surprised. All things considered, over the next seven years with the Denver Broncos, would I be shocked if they move back into legitimate contention, even in a difficult AFC West?

No, I wouldn't. This guy's a winner. What do you say? Does he get the love, the respect that he deserves? 855-212-4CBS. Justin is calling from Baltimore.

You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. I think he gets a little bit too much credit. You know, the Legion of Boom, when we talk about the greatest defenses of all time in the Super Bowl era. You know, I think of the Bears in the 85, I believe it was. I also think of Ray Lewis's Baltimore Ravens team. And I think of the Legion of Boom. And you know who else I think of? Yes. It's Beast Mode.

Marshawn Lynch, Beast Mode. And I still don't understand why they threw the ball against the Patriots in the second Super Bowl. I still don't understand it. You know, it's not his fault. You know, he didn't. What kind is his fault? He threw the pick.

Yeah. But he's not a top 10 quarterback in the game anymore. He just isn't. He's not a top 10 QB in the game. He's not even top three in his own division.

I would rather have Herber or Mahomes, or I think I'd rather have Derek Carr at this point over him. Okay. And so your main reason is the defense. I mean, have you seen what he was able to do? And Beast Mode.

And don't forget Beast Mode. Okay. But the first thing that you said was because of the defense, right?

Yes. That's what you said. Top three Super Bowl defense of all time. Well, they weren't just top three Super Bowl defense of all time. They were a defense that was ranked number one for about four consecutive years. That was four years.

This man has been able to play. You're making my point. I'm not making your point.

If you would stop and listen to me, you would actually know what I'm saying. Okay. I apologize. I apologize.

Thank you. They were a number one defense for four seasons. How many years has Russell Ben Wilson been playing?

I don't know that number. Oh, okay. Oh, well, I mean, Justin.

What else are we going to say here? Come on, Justin. The man has been in the league a decade now. He's been around since 2012. That defense was absolutely dominant for about four seasons. You want to know about every season that Russell's been in the league even after, you know, Cam was gone and Richard was gone.

You want to know what else happened? Earl was gone. And that defense started to plummet into the damn 20th range. The offense still sat around top 10.

And yes, a lot of it was running. But if you actually look at what they did and who commanded the offense, how can you tell me that Russell gets too much credit? Have you seen some of the quarterbacks playing in the NFL? What do you think they're going to do right now with Geno Smith at the helm?

This is a Seattle Seahawks team, which is getting ready to tank. Yeah. There ain't no expectations for Geno Smith or Drew Locke.

Yeah. I don't, I don't want a quarterback. A quarterback who throws and completes, I don't know, a 67, 70, whatever percent of his passes. A quarterback who can get me 30 to 40 touchdowns and not turn the ball over. Someone who's going to throw for 4,000, maybe 4,500 plus yards a season. Oh yeah, he's, I don't want him. Keep him.

Give me Geno Smith instead. What are we, what are we doing? Like, are we only going to focus on, well, this is only what happened in the, you know, two years of back-to-back Super Bowls and they, they did it. Come on now. Stop it. Marty calling from DC.

You're on CBS Sports Radio. Yeah, I'm with you, man. He's underrated. And I want to say, I didn't say that. I didn't say that, Marty. No, no, no, no.

I'm sorry. He's, he's, I'll say he's underrated. They don't give him, I didn't say overrated. He's underrated. I understand. They don't give him the props that he deserves on the football field. I'm not talking about what all this stuff you do outside the football field.

Look at this or this. And when he came in the draft, he was the 75th pick. Third round. Number one, third round. Number one was Luck. Number two was RG3. Luck retired.

He would have had a great career if he would still be playing RG3. Brandon Weeden. Brock Osweiler was guy's selector.

Yes. The only person that's still in the lead from that is Ryan Tannehill. He was select number eight. And he beat out Matt Flynn who came from Green Bay.

People keep forgetting. He opposed to being the starting quarterback that season. And Russell, they opposed to being Roman Russell coming in at rookie season. He outplayed Matt Flynn in the preseason and won the starting job. The guy is a baller, man.

I owe it. A lot of my buddies don't like him. They say he's overrated. I think he's a great football.

Like you just said, the statue to say, you don't turn the ball over. He going to move the chain. He going to do whatever it takes to win the football game.

I'm a big Russell Wilson fan. He changed. He came in. He wasn't a pocket really a pocket player coming out of Wisconsin, but he changed his whole style and he evolved into the quarterback that we see today. Yeah.

And thank you, Marty, for calling from DC. I put it to this way. I would not say Russell Wilson is underrated. I wouldn't say that. I would say he doesn't get the respect that he deserves. And more importantly, this is just what it boils down to. Russell Wilson is a winner. I'm going to take more of your calls on the other side. We'll get it to Donovan Mitchell and more. It's the JR sport re-show CBS Sports Radio.
