This is family policy matter program is produced by the North Carolina family policy Council of profamily research and education organization dedicated to strengthening and preserving the family, and often the studio hears John Rustin, president of the North Carolina family policy Council, thank you for joining us this week. Profamily policy matters. It is our pleasure to have arena group soon back on the program with arena is the director of the Center for human dignity at family research Council in Washington DC where she focuses on sanctity of human life issues ranging from conception to end of life care. She recently hosted a lecture at FRC about the current status of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide in order to be talking with her about these important end-of-life issues and their status in the United States arena.

Welcome back to the program. What impact do you think that the government involvement in healthcare in the United States could have on the proposed expansion of euthanasia or physician-assisted suicide here.

Well care Cottonelle including one called keeping likely April 2000 1400 Maeterlinck. The product can be quite handy connected. Right now even doctors and medical agent are going to be writing because the lack of delays Obama care and everything out about Obama care physically and a couple program to send Obama care which the elderly in particular elderly people and the program called iPad, which stands for independent payment advisory board and into the 15 member board of unelected and unaccountable unaccountable bureaucrat when I was making kayaking to insurance reimbursement and then actually cutting the Chilean dollars for Medicare over a decade electric light bank when the candidate board like to know many of the programs that keep our elderly people protected 11 program that is that it can be dangerous for elderly people another one in the cloud at the quarry, patient centered outcomes research Institute for the 19 member board and that when examining the relative health outcomes. The clinical effectiveness of an appropriate appropriateness of different medical treatment they can pay is if this treatment is not avoided. The tenant is not so cost effective and they could cut out different treatment option and put through, then those human options are no longer available or covered by insurance and specially under yet again Medicare limit even cleaner citizens who would want to pay more for treatment that is only partially covered by health insurance are not allowed to getting out and tell you to be even Obama care for for something such as euthanasia will guide you when you look at what programs will be cut and how elderly people will will suffer as a result, due to the medical arena starting with the role of nutrition, fluids to those who wore what we would consider to be near end-of-life decisions with treatable and there is an attempt to use that as justification to expand for health savings and other types of things within medical care to expand it to essentially give physicians the authority to just withhold that care and hasten someone's filled and unnatural fashion happening more often than we like to incorporate marketing. We relied on people do you have a right to reject treatment and usually when Ellen reject treatment should be because it's extraordinary and not ordinary treatment but what people need to know that food and water are ordinary means, meaning that anyone, whether healthy or not would die without food or water and no plumbing that must always be offered to become the next urinary means that in motorcade just an ordinary meaning and the denial of food and water is a very easy way even even in states where I euthanasia and suicide are not legal for someone to be killed, basically, and we need to be vigilant of it like a little girl in Texas that I mentioned before he was denied food and water and he died in her and her very own home for eight days and her family just watched her life go quickly because you denied the basic need of food and water, not because of her own illness on should actually tell. We have to we have to be vigilant and we have to look at different bacon and see what practices are being done there in the hospitals and and people need to do investigative work at the state level times, it seems that the focus so much on abortion. We can also lose side of the critical importance of the ward and with the desire to really alter the God-given gift of life from conception to natural good think it's important for students to be more hopeful of the importance of these end-of-life issues. God is major and physician-assisted suicide, one of the most important site to be of life issues of our time. I mentioned before is going to be a growing problem that elderly people that the population is growing health care rationing is it is already taking place.

I we have a declining birthrate that we are going to be euthanasia and guide as one of the major life threat and I would bet for human life at the beginning of life everything again born I read to disrespect regular life. The end-of-life elderly in the dying and the people and the common thread is the vulnerability of the victim and really have to we have to look at being a polite means that we are well for the dignity of life in the entire continuum of life from the moment of conception until unnatural and no, something that the pro-life movement. My thinking to keep in mind that the end-of-life threat. I euthanasia and guide same pattern and are very closely linked to the abortion movement and they modeled the language based on what has already worked in the lead and language that you are here and need language from the 1930s, obligate the president on that it is more tolerable for the general public until talking about the completed date guide aid in dying. They wanted to keep the work to aid in dying. They talk about right to die mercy killing people. Having an economic burden, the right to death of dignity and that they might enjoy my life.

My dad and Vince rings very closely to the pro-abortion movement because if it right that they claim people have over life or death. As in the case of abortion.

It is also it cannot be that the end-of-life and failing to continue in our daily lives as well as in the public square in respect of all human life that we know people who are vulnerable elderly people and the unborn people and people.

So Christians work in public policy are in the political leaders both on the national and state level individual Christians who really seek to honor God in all the gift of life really have the responsibility of the role is in caring for the sick and dying are not just in caring for them for members of their own family book, but taking on this concern is a promotional matter needs to be addressed and in some people may feel led to work that out through articulating policies are regarding euthanasia and assisted suicide to the truly value human life in opposing efforts to expand euthanasia and assisted suicide in our country. Of course our state here in North Carolina. Would you agree with the home way that you treat your family member you treat your neighbor at the closest circle to lightly show on dignity and respect to the young people to elderly people and people in the dying people in our own very lied about what if it home on and everyone there that everyone liquid with the respect for human life and one what we are examples of that Christian ones are examples of that in our own life and we can reach out and volunteer hospitals and hot is another places that take care of potable people at that level if he wanted to become even more involved.

We become active and I think educate others on the dangers of euthanasia and diet and bring it to your church bring it here that the groups bring it your school and talk about it and also take a vocal group in any North Carolina looking to protect against the weight of the particular guide and NTS, and it's something become the threat right to your local paper state legislature and one thing that really impressed me was I an un-letter written to new paper by 10-year-old girl in Connecticut when they were trying to pass the bill in Connecticut and thankfully it failed. But I was really impressed by the fact that he hears all the kids standing up for elderly people and people at risk of what would be the result other side walk in Connecticut really need to. We need to make here that this place that plaintiff protect the people in elderly and fell on palliative care is there to emphasize pain relief and control. The people who are in pain and and dying can have on comfort and that they have people around them will provide basic healthcare for that nutrition and hydration, cleanliness, warmth, and I think overall as ever. I need to ask that suffering is an element of the human condition recently kind of put away suffering as on and I will try to pretend that humans don't should indoctrinate another part of our daily life. Alleviating the suffering cannot involve the intentional touring of anyone telling me look at respecting life and human dignity. We need to continually be examples of that in our very own lives and then be vocal about it and I ate almost no time for the show but were working to learn more about all that you and the family research Council doing to address is what the resources that are available at www.fip.org under that we will have major life issues as well as marriage issues and an otherwise then you can click on either the life that she is there. There is a link for euthanasia and under their resources on.

I would recommend for anyone to visit FIP.org I gave up dictation on that you go to FIP.org. You will find it. Then you can you can watch the presentation as well and really other resources for you. We have publications and lectures I can watch over your computer on a lot of life issues so they could stay updated on them will encourage you to bill themselves of those resources. Clearly this is an extremely important is often overshadowed by the focus on abortion, but it is fundamentally an issue of life altering the site of human life. So I would very much encourage your listeners to go to proceed towards the four seasons family research Council go towards the end of download information on the report about how because the first step toward getting involved is being informed the procedure.

We have some great resources to help inform you all about these really important issues will grow to thank you so much for taking time out of your schedule to be with us our own family policy matters and for your great work defending the sanctity of human life, that the family research Council.
