It's incalculable the impact that one godly couple who can can have on generations to come. And it was my desire and the benefit was Blair's desire and that though we came, we both came from broken homes, the Lord brought us together in his sovereignty so that we might leave a godly legacy welcome to family life to day where we want to help you pursue relationships that matter mouth and Wilson and Dave Wilson and you can find his way we live or on our family life and it is family life. So growing up in Philly, Ohio. This little town. I was always jealous of this one family, the barons and she signed family and yeah yeah me.

They were known in our town. Is this really close-knit family. Now I know it wasn't as great as we thought. From the outside, but I always was jealous of your dad as you know I coach me and I knew your brothers.

I played sports with your brothers and every time is near your family. It felt full of joy felt fun. Lotta laughter and you guys were addicted to sports, so that was awesome but II think a lot of people in that town felt that about the barons now make me teary because I just lost both my parents and they dictate that they were fine people wanted to be at our house not so much because of us kids, but because my dad people would sit down and he would say tell me your story. Tell me who you are so great and he was great at complementing other people as any man love you and help that you're a good athlete is the kind of family and everyone to leave their house you wanted to stay there.

Felt warm and inviting and I would leave and a member get on my bike peddling or than later. Going home to an empty house with just my mom, who was drinking to hide her her pain. I will bring all that up and once I already think frying just to hear you. The other side of the room because Cheyenne Blair linen here this day to talk about your family and your inner blurry, wrote a book called finding my father so I wish you had a similar experience. But again, just let me just for say welcome back then left today were so glad to have you back think this could be that I it's really good to have both of you here to hear both of your stories and the similarities to and the struggle of wanting to have that relationship and also forgiving her father's because I think our listeners. I mean even me having a great dad there still things that I had to forgive. I think this relates to all of us yeah and so obviously of her little bit of your story. But even as you hear us talk about that. Did you ever feel that in your life because you both had he lived in homes that were fatherless.

In a sense like mine.

Did you feel a similar desire to, but I want to be around family where there's a dad and there's something there that I don't have.

I remember praying next to my grandmother who was a source of strength, the backbone of our family. My mom side and a strong believer and she would pray for us and she would pray that we would have a godly family and I remember at 13 years old, praying, I want to have a godly family now. No idea what that even meant yeah but that was in my mind that was in my heart you wanted that. That's what I wanted and it's so sad because there weren't many models where I lived. You know, so I would look out the different families that lived around us, or when we lived in apartment building below last summer to the side of us and it wasn't really anything that I saw that I wanted to model. Sadly, and so it's crazy when I was a child actually would have liked an imaginary family is really sad with dad.

You know, so most of what I saw when I thought of a family with something on television the Cosby show no insight here shaking your head very similar for me so I didn't know that there was anything other than single-parent homes.

All of my friends. It was just their mom so the idea of that even being in the home was was foreign to me. Lucky to now I have to wonder if your grandmother praying for you that give you a sense of this is what I want as well And Then Got Answered That Prayer Absolutely Yes As You As You Guys Get Married. Was There a Desire to Get Three Kids Writing Was Well Desired and We Got Married but I Know When When Anna Got Married, There's Two Things Going on in My Mind.

She Again Came from This Great Family Get What Us Imperfect As Even As I Got in There and There's Nothing I Thought All This Talk Yesterday Tell You Stories but It Was Just Sort of a Typical Family, but There Was a Dad and I Did Have That. So When We Got Married. I Had Two Things in My Mind.

One Was. I Was Scared to Death to Be a Dad. I Wanted to Be One, but I Was Afraid I Didn't Know How I Just Let Me Share This Dave on Our Honeymoon. We Got East to the East Coast and We Spent Two Nights in Boston at This Great Hotel Were All Excited and Were Kind of Adventurous or Likely to Take the Subway.

Let's Explore the City Sewer Exploring and on the Way Back We Get Lost on the Subway and I Love Adventure My Cookies Philosopher Together.

This Is Amazing Day Starts Getting Mad We Get Back to the Hotel Room. She Totally Sets down. We've Been Married Three Days at This Point and I'm like, What's Wrong Just Had to Bring That Fact That This a Long Time Log Starts Crying. The Hardest That I've Ever Seen Him Cry Thinking What's Wrong yet I Remember like Yesterday.

It Is 40 Some Years Ago I Was Sobbing Very Strongly in It.

I Remember Trying to Understand What I Was Feeling That I Was Overwhelmed, You Know, Two Weeks before Our Wedding. We Went to the Family Life Weekend. Remember That Now for 30+ Years. We Are Speakers That We Set There's an Engaged Couple and It Was the First Time in My Life I've Ever Heard a Talk from the Word of God about What Husbands Looks like and a Dad and It Was Great. It Was Awesome. I Given a Talk Thousands of Times That You Had Never Heard Anything like That. I Never Christian Home Was Probably a Year and 1/2 Old. As a Follower Christ. So the Good Thing Was I for the First Time Heard What Man of God and a Husband and Dad Should Look like the Bad Thing Is I Remember Walking out Going on Never Built. Do You Know Partly Because I Didn't Have Any Model That Sort of a Victim Mentality but I Was like under Bill Do It so That's What Happened on That Moment I We Get Lost Some Salsa Building, Navigate Our Way to Boston under Been There but I Just I Think What Happened Is I Felt Overwhelmed at Night like I Think I Said I'll Never Be the Man You You You Do This like You Don't Get It like I Don't Know How to Do This and the Good Thing Is That When I Teach Said, I Say to the Guys If Your Phone Overwhelmed Right Now That's What I Want You to Go. You're Right, You Won't Be There but I Can If You Let Me. So I Say All That to Say You Know There Was This Fear. But There's Also This Excitement. Like I Get to Change a Legacy. How Did You Guys Walk into Was Anything Going on in Your Life.

So When We Got Engaged. The Proposed Blair at the Lincoln Memorial in DC A Few Feet Away from Where Martin Luther King Gave His Dreams and in the You Know Is Going to Happen.

I Didn't Know How but the Whole Church Nuke Is This Is the Thing That I Communicate on the Day in Which We Talked about before Was That It's Incalculable. The Impact That One Godly Couple Can Have One Generations to Come. And It Was My Desire and It Was Blair's Desire to Have a Godly Legacy and That Though We Came, We Both Came from Broken Homes, the Lord Brought Us Together in His Sovereignty so That We Might Leave a Godly Legacy. That's What We Began Walking Shy When You're Santa. Here's What Hit Me the 10 Commandments Exodus 20 Amp. I Know You're Familiar with This Your Pastor When You Process Stuff I Spoken Word No Verse Four.

It's One of the Commands, You Shall Not Make for Yourself an Image in the Form of Anything in Heaven above or on Earth below or in the Waters below, and Then He Says This. You Shall Not Bow down to Them or Worship Them for I the Lord Your God Am a Jealous God, Punishing the Children for the Sin of the Parents to the Third and Fourth Generations of Those Who Hate Me, and Often That's All I Hurt so I Realized Why I Came from Two Alcoholic Parents, Adultery, Divorce, You Know Should Be This Sin That Could Possibly Be Transferred through Me to the Third and Fourth Rednecks, First It's Actually Just Keeps on Going. He Goes on in Verse Six He Says, but Showing Love to a Thousand Generations of Those Who Love Me and Keep My Commandments When You're Just Shows like You're Living out the Other Side of That, There's This Beauty of the Righteous Man Woman. I Am That Extend That for Thousands of Generations and You Get to We Get to Change the Name and the Legacy That Was Part of What You Guys Were Hoping for.

You Get Married Absolutely and Praise Be to God That He Loved Us First. That's Why Were Able to Love Him and We Praying That It Would Impact so Many Generations beyond Ourselves, and It's Amazing to Be Able to Think Often about Shy. What Was the Scripture That You Shared with Me. It Was like God Can Raise Children for Abraham of Stone. Yeah, You Know, Just to See That the Lord, Though You Dealt with Very Hard Things Not Having Our Fathers in Our Lives That Doesn't Have To Be the End of the Story God Changes Our Story so Often for His Glory. Think about the New Birth That That's What God Does Right He Regenerates As He Makes All Things New Folders on the News Come and As We Just Talk and It Reminded Me of Our Children so We Have Three Kids 10, Seven and Six Right Now and You Guys Are in the Middle of It Is Is a Great Age Is Very Busy Yeah and on the Things That Struck Me A While Back Was We Were Talking to the Kids and I Was Telling Them about a Cousin That That They Have, Who Had a Child Out Of Wedlock and When One of Our Kids Looks to Us and Says Wait. Where's His Wife Said While He Doesn't Married and He Said Weehawken Someone Have a Child Development While in His Mind It Was Unfathomable. You Could Have a Child without Being Married, and That's All He Knows with You Know with Us and so Just a Moment of Man, like the Lord Is Doing.

It Is Starting Fresh with the Next Generation. In Time, I Want to Things That You Say in Your Book Where You Say We Don't Need to Hide That Father Will We Don't Need to Pretend That We Aren't Really That Affected by Our Father's Absence.

I Come Thinking That like so Many of Us Do Hide Those Wounds Right That's Right.

And We Don't Know We Often Are Not Aware of How We Are Being Impacted by Our Father's Absence, and Even We Talk about the Statistics There's so Many Statistics Which Show like You Sociologists Are Very Clear That Father's Matter. You Know It's so Evident Because When You Look at, for Example, You Know Whether It's the Obesity Rate Sort, You're More Likely to Come in Contact with Police.

Just Not Having Your Dad in the Home You Are More Likely to Be Suicidal Not Having Your Data and in the Home, Something That We Dealt with. It Was Very Close to Home Was the Infant Mortality Rate Doubles When the Data Is Not in the Home so I Talk about in the Book When My Mom Told Us That She Was Actually Can Have Another Child and Later. Unfortunately My Brother Passed Away and It's like, Who Would've Known You Know That These Were the Statistics That It Was Kind of Innocent Stacked up against Us, but How the Lord Is the Hike I Can Look at You I Can Shield You. I Can Cover You As a Mike. I Didn't Even Experience Many Things That Many Other People Who Are Fatherless Experience. I Think the Lord Shielded Me from A Lot.

Teen Pregnancy, or Even Going to Jail or Things like That. But Even in That the Lord Says I Can Still I Can Cover You.

I Can Still Make All Things New.

Where You Can Create a Legacy and It Doesn't Actually Have To Mean That You Have To Get Married and You Have To Have Biological Children Even Talk about This in the Book Legacy Looks like Discipleship, like Pouring Your Life out You Know As a Single Sister or Brother.

It Looks like, How Do You Pour into the Next Generation How You Leave a Mark and Show the Love of Christ to the Next Person Coming along and and so Yes Make God's Name Be Praised through All of Us Regardless of the Situation They Were into the Season of Life That Were and You Know We're Here to to Bring His Name, Glory and Praise Your Story. I Can't Help but Think of All the Fathers You Have in Your Church and Away Couples Would You Say What Would You Be like without That Community. There Are Tangible Examples of Man That I Can Point to over the Years Who Have It's It's It's for the Community.

Things Are Getting Everything from One Person, Just like in Gleaming from from Different People over the Years and I Think about Things like Family Worship Which Is Which Is Something That I Had No Concept of Community Dinner at the Table and Waited That Look like When Somebody Told You about That What It Was, It Wasn't Him. Tell Me about It Was Him Showing Him He Was Inviting Us over for Dinner and Then after Dinner Taken Time to Open up the Scriptures and and It Was Modeled Most like. While This This This Is Great.

I've Never Did Have a Category for This Is Something That We've Instilled in Her Home and Then We Been Able to Invite Others in the Same Way That We Were Invited to the Family Worship You like Yeah so after Dinner Will Open the Bible and Your Were Going through the Book of Mark Now and so Read the Passage and Using the Previous Tax Clearance Will Get What We Do a Recap of What We Did before Asking the Kids Questions about It Every Day Everywhere As Much As We Can. Yeah You so You You Bring the Kids in Your Asking Questions and Just after Dinner so Were All Gathered There Will Be the Next Pastors Are Asking Questions about It. So Whatever Discussion Sometimes It Goes for 10 Minutes Sometimes Goes for 30 Minutes Is Depending on How the Discussion Goes in Them That Are Connected to the Gospel. How Does This Relate to Christ, Where We Are in the Bible and Then Will Will Say and Then We Also Be like Seeing Right before Bed to Love You. Really Good Things Together Time You'll Sing This Song Only Can We Sing Different Songs Every Night.

Anything That You Pray. Very Early on We Been Singing since Sage Was a Toddler, so That's All You Know You so Now Actually in One of the Pastor. So When I Moved to Washington DC Right before We Got Married. It Was like a Two Month Window and I Was Staying with the Family out One of the Pastors at Our Church and I Remember Him Saying We Been Singing with Our Kids since They Were Six Months Old. You Know, and I Just Thought Six Months Old. Well Now and We Just Kind of As You Learn and Grow and You See What Other Families Are Doing and You Say That You Know, I Know You Know but That's Something That We've We've Kept in Recordings of Our Oldest Sage Singing, Holy, Holy, Holy. Six Months Six Months You Have Genius Kids Genius That Austin House and They Were Putting Their Kids to Bed, but They Did the Same Thing Lacing over That. When You Feel like Right Every Night. If There's a Family Listener like Okay I Can Imagine a Singing with Our Kids at Night Which One Says Miley Will Take a Risk You Could End up on Her Usually Loving Families like Were Not Were Not Church Planters, Not Pastors. We Don't Know the Word like the You Guys Do We Want to Do a Family Worship Devotional. We Want That to Be a Part of Our Family. What Would You Tell Him That Were Where Were They Start Coming off Them Is a Different but at the Same Time We Are Commanded in Scripture. Things Are Commanded Right so Look for Call to Sing to One Another with Psalms and Hymns and Spiritual Songs and That Doesn't Have To Be Limited to the Corporate Gathering on Sundays and in Fact I Believe We Should We Should See the What We Do on Sundays As an Outgrowth Are More in Overflow of What's Already Happening during the Week so That the Kids Don't Have the Sharp Dichotomy between Sunday and Everything Else Was like Will Know We Been Worshiping God throughout the Week. Now We Get to Worship Him with the Corporate Body of God's People.

So to That Person. I Would Say Not to Be a Pastor to Be a Scholar and You Have a Hope You Have a Bible Open It. You Can Read It.

You Don't Even Have To Be Have the Gift of Teaching. You Can Read the Passage. So Even If It's Just 10 Minutes of Opening the Bible Reading the Passage Discussing It. Praying and Call It a Day or Even Even If It's Just That Right Just That Small Step of Faithfulness God Wanted Yeah Is No Law.

You Know It's Not like This Is the Way We Do It and You Have To Do It That Way, the Lord Can Be Praise in so Many Different Ways and If It Is Just Taking Two Minutes to Read One Verse Every Day. You Know, or Every Other Day. Yes, It Won't. You Know What to Stop and Just Pray with You Children to Pray for Your Children and I Just Think I Think about My Grandmother Who Prayed for Me. So Often Just about Every Day.

She Prayed for Me. I Was Sharing Recently That She Got Older She Had Dementia and I Would Say She Would Still Pray for Her Children and Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren Every Day. It Was Still a Part of Who She Was.

That Intercession and You Know We Need to Be Interceding for Our Children and I Think It's Beautiful for Them to Hear Our Prayers. If Possible, You Know, so Just Trust the Lord. Even Again, If It's a Two Minute Prayer and Reading One Verse Here We Have a Set Especially before Our Kids Are Driving We Have Time with Them in the Car. Time Is Amazing.

Not Just Catching up with Them, but Praying I Can't. I Just Got in the Habit When They Were Infants Mumbling a Man I Would Just Pray out Loud and That Just Became so Normal That Were Praying before School Praying after School Had You Think That We Pray about the Things That Went on Good Are the Hard Things Really Say Mealtime Bedtime Drivetime Is a Great Times Is Almost the See Yeah You Know Earlier I Thought You Said so There You like Your Listening to Dave and Ann Wilson with Blair and Shy Lynn on Family Life to Day Shy Breakdown and Saying or Will He Leave His Wife Hanging to Find out Just a Minute Plus Will Hear a Story That Encourage You If You've Ever Felt like Your Family Devotion Time Is Just Going Nowhere That's Coming up in Just a Minute. Right Now Will Shy Leave His Wife Hanging Will He Join Her in Song O for a Review Folder Will Refund Okay so We We Actually Get You to Sing. You Set Arising One Note like I'm Thinking of Being in My Bed and My Parents Singing over Me like Going You Would Feel like I Don't Know Any Different Lives but the Power of the Gospel Being Son over the Memory Amazing Yeah II Hope You Keep Doing It When They're Teenagers As I Can Imagine to Be like My Dad.

You Know, Maybe Not but You Know You Get to Age Words like but I Think They Love It so Much That I Say Hey My Tonight, but Their Love It Were a Brother Who Mentioned about Family Worship Shares Pastor Friend of Mine Who Was Sharing How They Had a Bible Time Family Worship Every Day and the Youngest Son When He Got a Team. He Was about to Go off to College and This Was the Most Kind of Unruly Child of Also Have the Time. He Was the One That Always Had to Be Disciplined. He Was Loud, Running All over the Place and Time Today.

I Wonder What You See, Even Paying Attention and so It Was Time for Him to Go to College at 18 He Son Was Standing in the Living Room Just Started Tear up As He Was Staring at the Couch like What Was Was Going on and He Said You Know Dad for My Entire Life.

I Sat There on the Couch As You Faithfully Open God's Word and Now I'm about to Leave Him Really Want to Miss It You Just Broke Broke down, It Was so Encouraging to Hear That It Was. It Was Small Steps of Faithfulness over Time That God Got on That Sometimes You Not Sure Is This Making Them How You Think Is Going to Vomit All over the Place, Laughing and so That Was Really Encouraging to You Real Passion for Teaching Children, Not Just Your Own. You've Written a Book on How Parents Can Help Transfer Their Faith and Their Kids so That There Is a Book Which Is God Made Me and You, Which Is Basically How Parents Can Disciple Their Kids in Appreciating God's Diversity in Creation and Then Is an Album Called Jesus. He Only Wrote Elbow yet Is Called Jesus That Almost Didn't Want to Say in Jesus Kids Is a Children's Album Minutes Is Basically It's a Tool for Parents to Encourage the Children in the Gospel and so I Have a Song Called the God of the Books Which Is Basically the Books of the Bible in Rep Form, Which Is a Way to Teach You the Books of I May Not Know This but I Play That All the Time.

One of Our Granddaughters Are Middle Son Austin and His Kids Can Do All the Books Really Made like to Get You to Do It.

I Would Tell Our Listeners.

I Love It Because It's Also As I'm Listening Because I Listened the Whole Thing Is Incredibly Theological. You Have These Pockets of Teaching in Their Catechism, so Good. Passion Come from Where Were the Idea Come from Which Which Idea You Know I'm Going to Do a Book on the Right Music for Kids to Learn Theology. I Think Part of It Is My Love for CS Lewis in December. The Power of Stories for Children That Are Theologically Grounded in Just How How That Can Live for Generations to Come. Again We Talk with on What Legacy Music Is Such a Powerful Tool Such a Powerful Gift from God. It Enables a Person to Hear Something and Be Able to Recall It Because It's Memorable Is It so It's a Singable Melody and Ends and so, Having Worked As As a Christian Hip-Hop Artist for Some Time and Then Having Kids of Her Own. It Was like It Was a No-Brainer List. Let's Do Something That Can Help by God's Grace to the Shape and Jesus Time How Much You Love Little Boys and Girls. I love this quote about family life's art of parenting small group study says this we had a very diverse study group from six different countries. It was an amazing experience of evaluating how culture and upbringing impacts our parenting styles. Sometimes in opposition to the truth of God's word. We all agreed that this course was instrumental in reorienting our beliefs and practices toward Christ centered parenting is amazing.
