R1292 Our Great High Priest

He went to God and he petition in the half of the Israelites concerning their physical needs, but he also petition God in the holy of holies by offering sacrifices so they would kill a sheep or an ox or does and they would actually shed blood. But what kind of blood was that folks at what kind of blood does a sheep have. It has non-eternal blood it blood, its lifeblood, but it's non-eternal blood so you can kill or sacrifice an animal and you are shedding blood symbolizing life, but it's non-eternal blood. It's not eternal blood.

So when Jesus came, Jesus gave his body, there is the grain offering the flash offering.

But then he gave essentially his blood but his blood was not a non-eternal blood. This was the blood of the Lamb of God, eternal blood.

This is life giving blood so that when Jesus died upon the cross, when he gave his life giving eternal blood through his shed blood now become in with his offering of his body, which is my all time and eternity, but essentially I receive an eternal blood transfusion so that not Jesus is my high priest gives me eternal life by his blood.

And today this is a humdinger I'm going to need five hours to explain this to you.

There's so much this is incredible. Alright everybody get out your Bibles openly Hebrews chapter 4, you must see this for yourself.

I want you to know that what I'm about to share with you about our great high priest is not something that I'm making up. This is in the Bible. This is in the book and it's all made possible because of the Lord Jesus Christ.

So I bought a lot of different components that I'm going to be giving to you today. In the beginning part of this message. I'm going to be showing you a number of different things and then it's all going to come together all right all benefit together. God will do that is Holy Spirit will do that. So when you get to Hebrews chapter 4 verse 14 we read about what we've just been singing Garrett is I want to read it for you. Hebrews chapter 4 and verse 14 and I'm going to explain some of this is difficult, but on the Tronics fine since then we have a great high priest who has tossed through the heavens, Jesus the son of God. Interesting. The other type of both Jesus and his humanity, the son of God. On this basis, let us hold lost to our confession.

That means you can take hold of you all believe in Christ, your faith in Christ as a Christian. This is something of eternal value. This is absolute.

I watch the explanation in verse 54. We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with us in our weaknesses, but do in every respect is being tempted as we are yet without sin, and because of that verse 16 about some great news everybody look at me name it what you going through right now. What are you dealing with a son, daughter, family issues, difficulties, name it anything.

Nine. Anything that you are dealing with now does a verse just for you and for me. Let us therefore with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, we just been singing about the throne of God in order that we may receive mercy and find grace in our time of need. God is going to give to you mercy and he's going to pull out on you his grace. So right now I'm going to say to you, you can come directly to God. Everybody watch me some of you are dealing with some very, very tough things. Some of you are dealing with things in your heart and life right now that are so hard and so tough, so heart wrenching your heart is about to break you can come to God through Jesus because Jesus is our great high priest, you don't need me to do that don't need the church doesn't want you to bring a relic or offer a sacrifice.

You can just go straight to him with confidence and when you do that you will be brought into the very throne of God.

We have a talk about that in a minute and what's going to happen you going to receive mercy. Just think about that word mercy God's gonna pour out his mercy, but he's going to confer upon you his grace that sees unmerited favor.

So watch this you are going to find favor in the heart of God. That means your circumstance which is brought before him, what ever that need is is going to find God's favor. That's why burdens are lifted when you come to Calvary now watch how this works because back in this time when this was written there were high priests and there was a temple I'm going to show your picture that not just right now hold on for a minute for me with that picture. I want to show to you in a minute but I'd like to read this to watch what happens in chapter 5 for every high priest chosen from among men. Every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on the half of man in relation to God offering two things which they did back then when the children of Israel. Aaron was the first high priest. Remember Moses and Aaron and you go back into Leviticus chapter 16 if I can give you a cross reference you read about the Aaronic priesthood.

In other words, what God instructed Aaron to do in the half of the Jewish people and everything you have to do in relation to God through the temple the tabernacle. It was cool and there's a lot involved in the and there was a part of the tabernacle of the temple that only the high priest could going to an essentially the high priest didn't seem to around two things to offering there was the grain offering, which have to do with the things pertaining to the need of man. Just think of food in a simplistic way. And then there was the blood offering which have to do with the life of man. The book of Revelation he sees Jesus seated at the right hand of God and Amy's hand. He's got a scroll, which is the title deed to the because God owns everything and Jesus is the only one who has the authority to open the title deed of that which he owns and so you begin to follow the three judgments the seal judgments.

The seven trumpet judgments and then the seven bowl judgments and at the end of the seven bowl judgments something happens, folks. So go to chapter 19 quickly. Everybody turned Revelation chapter 19 and verse 11 in Revelation chapter 19.

Once again, I saw heaven opened, this time there is no discussion about a goal in Revelation 4 heaven opens in order to receive believers into heaven in Revelation chapter 19.

Heaven opens not to take us up into heaven but to let Jesus and all believers of heaven, you with me now. We've got a picture up there somewhere where you are not better understand we know it's not because Jesus went up when he came out of the drive. When he ascended on the Mount of olives, Jesus went up we know heaven is up and we know he went up to be seated at the right hand of the father. Now the Bible is about to tell us something. I just read to you something. Jesus is our high priest because he parsed through the heaven the temple that is spoken of in the Old Testament and leading up to A.D. 70, which was 14 years. Often Jesus died look something like this. It was an elaborate structure and surrounding temple worship was every kind of conceivable affect to try and come into the presence of God.

For example, they would wash themselves. It was cold, ceremonial washing, they would bring in all kinds of sacrifices by the way, do you member when Jesus came into the temple.

What was it that he found he found money changes right he found those that sold sheep and oxen and doves. Why were they selling sheep and oxen in the because that was part of temple worship and from the time of Aaron, only but only the priest could go into that part of the tape.

Only the high priest, there were only about 63 high priests elected or appointed from the time of Aaron until the time that we are talking about right now. Now there were many priests thousands of priest, but only one high priest, only one chief priest and he was the one who would go into the holy of holies he was the only one, and he was the only one who could have direct access to God.

And when he went into the holy of holies, he petitioned God in the half of the people.

That's how they came to hear from God.

And that's how they came into quote unquote into contact with God and so once a year to make for the people, the high priest would entering the holy of holies.

What did he do, he would into the optical he would go through the holy place, and he would go into the holy of holy. The problem laws that Jesus came because man could not. He could not satisfy the requirements of the righteous and holy God it was not enough man kept failing in his pursuit to have peace with God and so God so loved the school that he gave his only son, the Lord Jesus to come down to the server and take upon himself the sin of the world, yet he himself knew no sin, and he went to the cross and gave his life he gave his body to be broken. He gave his lap. His blood which she so that through him when cried when God raised him from the dead through the resurrection of Jesus. He conquered sin and death and the grave so that when you and I give our hearts and lives to Jesus. When we confess our sin to him and repent of our sin. As the Holy Spirit draws us into the heart of God. So it is that we are brought into a reconciled with God which allows us to come and approach the very throne of God with confidence now that the tabernacle therefore became only a limited copy of the real thing. Jesus said this cup is the new covenant in my blood. This is the way you do it. You no longer go through the temple. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life.

No one comes to the father but through me.
