Faith and fear filled operate out of the league right you know that when you have faith in what you have fear both of those operate out of a sense of belief in something we haven't seen yet. This morning I want to talk about faith over fear effect.

Today I want to give us some things I think will help us as we journey into faith.

As we walked in faith as we see what God has for us in our life.

We are in a costly battle between faith and belief in between fear and both of those require belief and trust in what we haven't seen yet. These were afraid of that. We don't know the reason why we have fears for yourself. Know what's happening over the reason why we don't have enough faith is because were unsure of the next step.

Sometimes we have fear of things that happened a long time ago. We don't even know if that's true anymore.

Today, bitterness, ingrained in us that were born with. These were brought up in the honey know there's some healthy fears out there right is a healthy fear to keep us safe. Were talking about the irrational fear. The other side of fear that will even know if it's true, and yet allows us to grip us. We all struggle with that. If I cry right now.

Everyone of you have some kind of fear in your life that your wrestling with her struggling with the Navy something small and maybe seems insignificant. Or maybe something gigantic there's a irrational fear I have of caterpillars by the way, and I'll see about it as the lives thing about this morning as we are getting ready. So how's little I was playing with the caterpillar the big green caterpillar that has like all the colors on it. Those big fat juicy green ones ever play within going house and I broke out in hives and so went to the doctor and he was like you're allergic to caterpillars. What a weird thing to be allergic to all my my entire life.

Every time anybody asked Ehlers a family caterpillars. This is so strange.

I'm 47, going on 48 I've not touched the caterpillar like 30 something years maybe 40 years and all human over that was even accurate.

The department… Go, but play with caterpillars and see what happens but there's this irrational fear side is like anytime if you can even of him walking like a phone, fully clothed him walking outside him like no this walkway over here some some of the field and run here you'll see them all time.

As leaders avoid almonds like why my boarding maybe I'm still allergic maybe and maybe I never was.

Maybe that was a something that I mom told me so would come inside and something else that I don't know what the deal is with that and so as you think about it. I want to take some notes this morning.

Once you turn your bow was book of Hebrews Ellen's open the Hebrews eligible to Hebrews chapter 13 L are presented. Hebrews 13 verse 1 to 9. I want to give us three ways that we can have faith over fear that we can walk in that we could strive in that we can do because listed I am. I'm so tired in my own life and seeing it in our life.

So tired of living a defeated life. We have an undefeated Jesus.

Amen we gotta stop living defeated. Whatever that looks like in your life where that defeat is where that fear is wherever that struggle is we just saying about the song of the Jews. That is our champion that is already one say those words in week know that to be true in our head, our head by wonder how often it translates into our everyday life that we actually live undefeated because Jesus undefeated or do we live overwhelmed we live defeated lives and so today I think today's can I help a lot of us just understand how does it operate with faith over fear.

Hebrews chapter 13 verses one through nine, and read the whole chapter of the Holland nine versus year than talk about this vibrio verse one us is let brotherly love continue to not neglect to show hospitality to strangers for thereby some have entertained angels unaware. Remember those who are in prison as though in prison with them and those who are mistreated since you are also in the body. Let marriage be held in honor among all the marriage bed be undefiled for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Keep your life free from the love of money and be content with what you have free is said I will never leave you or forsake you. Verse six so we can confidently say the Lord is my helper, I will not fear what man can do to me. Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith in Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings fruit is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods which have not benefited those devoted to them as a verse right there in the middle that is our theme verse for this morning so we can confidently say the Lord is my helper, I will not fear what man can do to me that were fear in Greek is the worst Silvio photos which is where we get phobia from in the Hebrew by the way there's many many words for the word fear in Greek.

Primarily, there's one word photos. The Greek understood fear at a level that I think maybe you and I underestimate of why they had one primary word that understood fear. The Greeks had all the Greek gods and men, used in the movies. You know the history is all these gods all the Greeks at the time. For the most part lived under fear of all those God's. They lived under the fear of Zeus and everybody are either they lived under the fear whether it's in a rain or not rain the fear whether you have a child and not have a child will deliver them a dive fall over. Now follow phenomenon that goes there is there is a ton of God we feel this to be true. When Paul goes and speaks in their pure agape where he goes he talks that any talks to all the statues that they had they understood fear in a real context that was irrational because none of those guys are actually live but they lived in fear of this were phobia phobia is where you fear from I thought about that. I thought about how often we have fears in our life and phobias in our life and I kinda went down never go down those those tunnels that just start researching stuff and use find yourself way down the road and so I started looking at phobias.

We know all the common phobias.

My father asked me phobias. I never heard of before. Phobias that that are just kind of unique or special phobias are rare phobias and I came up with.

If you want to see if you knew these I didn't know these maybe you do.

And by the way, I'm the one you had a time of butcher every single one of these words to tell you that ahead of time so no judgment here. Iraqi BW Tyra phobia record record whichever phobias we know that is if the fear Peter butter sticking to the roof your mouth. I was interesting anyway have that fear here this morning also be a fair peanut butter because you're allergic to peanuts is not that it's it's Peter butter sticking to the roof of your mouth is up a phobia that goes with that. No homophobia.

This one I was like, I think a lot of people have this phobia may no adenoma phobias.

I'm learning you're learning something new today phobias. This fear of being without cell phone coverage, how maybe now have a new phobia in your life right now, no homophobia, fear of being without cell phone coverage estimate Effie by fellow FP by phobia, how the company's names as a by phobia. This is the fear of teenagers. I have teenagers on like I think I have that one to fear teenagers scope of phobia scope of phobia.

This is how you get to know if you have this phobia or not. Look, it's coming next and just stare at them. This is the phobia be looked at her stared at the stare at somebody.

Mr. Eugen, you have a phobia skin.

Forget the phobia original phobia committee for I guess about one fear of numbers. Yes your numbers. Fear of math your numbers. I had that in school. None no more just now example phobia. This is the fear of the color yellow so bananas are out as last one I am going to destroy this word. I thought this was actually hysterical hippo part of Oman's gross pro se capo dealio phobia. Guess what, that's the fear of long words. It's a fear of long words and by the way, is the longest word in the dictionary scum strange is think that we are afraid of whether they're real to us or unreal. It just in phobias. How do we press through that that photos those phobias to step in the faith, because really fear as we all know is really the killer faith really is. It's fear we could call whatever we want, but it comes down to fear and were afraid of is that God isn't gonna be there when we take that step.

What we fear is what the unknown is ahead of us will be fear is what happens if I follow what God just said, and I was in Godalming on not to go there so many different fears and phobias that we have only comes to see who Jesus is. We have this opportunity to step not interfere with the step in the faith is ever going to miss three things right is down three ways to allow our faith to be over our fear faith over here.

The first one is this that we have to press through.

Do not fear doing the right thing. We want to step in the faith away from fear that we cannot fear doing the right things in Galatians chapter 6 verse nine attendances this way says let us not grow weary of doing good. Born the due season we will reap if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, it says, let us do good to everyone, especially those of the household of the faith. There's a piece of this were at the step over fear into faith because here's here's the reality doing the right thing is not always easy, but it's always right I do the right thing is always right, but it's not always easy, sometimes doing the right thing is really hard sometimes God calls us to do the right things but it's very difficult because of situations there's people involved, there's other extra things that are happening around us. So how do we actually push through that into faith and in the context of our faith, listen, there's more to it than just the unknown of tomorrow their souls estate there. There's more to it than just a career. There's more to it than just money. There's more to it than just our own health is literally souls at stake that that verse in Galatians speaks on not giving up because is a harvest that is out there.

Don't give up doing good because there's lives at stake. Whether it's heaven or hell their souls that are at stake so you and I can't get so fear driven that we lose out on doing the right things, not just the right things that are populous and there's a big difference between doing what is popular doing what is right and afford forceful in our culture often times it tilts towards doing what is popular is follow its popular follow whatever else is doing. I don't go against the grain. This is the big thing this is the buzzword is that they know that you canceled so void that Madonna we see it happen all the time that is more about doing what's in a keep us in the popularity of tuna. Keep us in people's eyes that like us is to keep us well-liked and well informed, but sometimes oftentimes that isn't the actual right thing to do and we see that battle.

Counseling of Scripture are counselors that battle that press against the word of God against what the Scripture is training us and teaching us to do in that passage in Hebrews chapter 13 it speaks about doing the right thing to talk about money talked about sexuality talked about following and imitating faith. It spoke towards those things about us and doing the right thing often is not what the culture is doing heaved they were writing about it.

There know that the marriage bed be defiled. Keep it pure, keep your sexuality pure, don't fall in love with money is the root of all evil editors warning signs all through Scripture that tell us listen. Here's what is right. Here's what is popular.

Here's the traps that we will fall into sovereign step in the faith were to continue to walk in the faith that we have to continue to step to where the Lord is leading us and talks about this. I thought this is important thing to highlight Boswell doing good to everybody. Everyone I think right now, the world could use some good don't you right now that the world can use some of us do good to everyone, including and especially the people around us and put into both categories. It was like do get sent everyone within especially those are in your faith, especially those that are like-minded and especially those others brothers and sisters in Christ and listen we would gotta stop fighting amongst ourselves we stop trying to rip each other apart when the world is looking and we got a point people to Jesus and one of the best ways to do that is to care for everybody to truly love everybody despite differences that still cause us to do good as we think about the context that you're in. Whether it's a neighbor classmate or a coworker would happen if you and I would just do good and just treated people well when the matter what they believe what happens in Scripture that we see is that is that they become open to the gospel. They become open to hearing this good news of who Jesus is, that were serving talks about. Let us be peacemakers in Scripture often that people are peacemakers that they are blessed how much you but I want to be blessed in my life and how an amazing way it is that one of the ways is for you, not just to bring peace in the situations.

Listen we can't be afraid of doing the right thing if were truly going to live in faith and walk in faith and we have to do rights always.

We have to do good always Ellison their sphere and that there's a ton of fear of what happens when I hold my ground on Scripture. There's fear that's woven into that if we allow it on what happens if the enemy is really good at playing next year.

Again, that mind game. If you do this. This is going to happen. We don't know if that's true or not driven option.

We have a choice. We fall faith, we can follow. Fear both of those require belief system. I will fall on the side of faith on the side of doing what I know is rights even when it's not easy. The second thing this morning is number two is this as we live faith over fear. We cannot fear what people can do to us. The first one is about doing the right thing. The second one is, do not fear what people will do to you this passage in Hebrews 13 verse six is reset already is Lord is my helper. Therefore I will not fear what man can do to me and that's coming right on the heels of talking about what we should live and how we should live our lives years ago versus just encourage you with when it comes this about not fearing what somebody else can do or will do or will say about us in Psalm 118 verse six is the Lord is on my side of your excited about that blows on my side, so I'm not going to fear what can man do to me. Romans 831 is what shall we say that's all these things of God is for us who can be against us again versus that just encourage us to not follow what people might be able to follow who God is. Matthew chapter 10 verse 28 is always a a verse that hits real reality. This is, do not fear those who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both the soul and the body and how it puts it in perspective that while what I fear you when you have nothing to do with where my soul is going to spend eternity and said it does speak about fear of God it and often times listen if we are not careful with that fear of God concept that would become just like the Greeks who fear them, for the life is not really what speaking about.

I heard so this way long time ago. It's always help me understand the fear of God is about to speak about fearing God and our contacts in our mind that we think about God being mean or cruel and have to fear because he might destroy us. I heard this a long time ago and it's help me navigate it often. It's more about me being afraid to being outside of God's will, not so much about God punishing me, not so much about God destroy my life. Although that's there, but more so on my part. I just don't want to live my life without God, there should be a good holy and righteous fear to not walk outside of God's plan of protection for my life. That's why it's so important.

But it's important to understand what God is calling us to deal where he is calling us to go because I want to be outside of God's will for my life. I don't want to be outside of God's will in my family are for my kids on the state and the center of God's will, as we talk about this. We don't fear people. There's a few things that happen in our life. I think that are really important real fear people. It allows us to push through difficult circumstances we don't fear people and we don't fear what some might do to assist.

They were disobeying God, walking in faith with God allows us to go through at times very difficult circumstances that maybe nobody else can understand. It also allows us to have good, albeit hard conversations with people. Again, we don't fear people we don't fear what somebody's going to do to us or with her to say about us or how.

Then again, navigate towards us and allows us to navigate difficult circumstances allows us to have difficult conversations with people knowing that listen, it's not. It's more about God in my life than it is about what you think what you say we seen this happen over the last couple years, especially the people become more afraid of what culture might do what culture might say to become more afraid about what people work might say her classmates might say her friends might say any do about who God is and who he is, in their life and who he wants to be in her life. The breeds confidence in our mission and our purpose.

When I got more of a holy fear of God than I do of any of you that allows me to say omniscient and on purpose allows you to do the same thing to keep doing what God called you to do and I worry about was so I might say to not worry about hustling my treat you because our love of God in our mission and our purpose of what God called us to do is more important than any of the it keeps our focus on Jesus is our focus on who he is, allows us to use the Scripture says the fix our eyes on Jesus is the author perfecter of our faith, not on each other. Not only so, I might think about us or say about us as a quick trap that we can fall and is a trapping font to try to keep up with whatever else is doing. Try to have whatever bills is having and often times that of very very heavy cost because this is not worth paying to. Then the day what God thinks of you matters more than anybody else, and what God thinks of you is amazing is beautiful in your us children and he loves you and to give his life for you and he wants to take away our burdens and are shaped to. That's the kind of God that we serve as we step into the faith card as opposed the fear that we can walk in those things in the third and final thing this morning. Number three is this is we don't fear because Jesus is the same. We don't fear because Jesus is the same in Hebrews chapter that we just read and spoke about that a couple altogether and it opened up about brotherly love and avoiding all these different sins and temptations that that who can be against us of Jesus for us in the wraps it up by talking about imitating the faith of other people and how Jesus is the same yesterday and today and tomorrow I will help us understand and understand a little bit in the context of Hebrews 3 were just reading and if you look at the late date of this writing, to the later dates all the books the Bible there's an estimated date that it was written. If you look towards the later date that this particular person was written and driven speaking to an audience. I thought this is very fascinating because his again.

If you read this last part is is remember your leaders, those who spoke the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith that one part there. If you read it to quickly reminisce the weight behind them and Rita one more time. It's verse seven in Hebrews chapter 13 remember your leaders, those who spoke to the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith in Jesus Christ the same yesterday today and tomorrow and forever.

What that's actually talking about is the martyrdom of the disciples in some of the followers of Jesus. It wasn't just look how good they do and how prosperous they are when the writer of this epistle is writing. If a look at the people your leaders imitate their faith. What he was saying as they gave their life for the gospel give their life.

The gospel more than likely was talk about ones that you would know about Stephen be the first martyr who was stoned to death. James possibly even Peter at this time who has the story say is crucified upside down and sway say is, listen, imitate your leaders and they give their life for the gospel. Therefore, Jesus is the same yesterday today and tomorrow.

In this context is not speaking about Jesus being eternal although that's true that's part of it. Often times we hear Jesus is the same yesterday today and tomorrow are thinking in terms of eternity. What this is really speaking about is this is after everybody has gone after people have come after people have gone there is one person that will always remain next to his name is Jesus. So now therefore go, and imitate the faith to now therefore go and do what God has called us to do and I and I just wonder how often we lose sight of our faith. For far less than the how often that we as Christians lose sight of our faith and our calling for far less than these leaders that the writer of Hebrews is talking about when they give their life. How often do we lose sight of our faith more for an inconvenience more for what somebody's going to say about us more for how that might affect our career more about what were gonna lose them organ again and so instead of standing your ground in faith will all those fears intervene and we give up Jesus for far less than some stony incident.

We give our faith far less than being crucified upside down. If you look through the martyrs of Scripture look through recent day martyrs and the list goes on and on and on a people willingly gave their lives for the gospel in here we are in our country and our context. We get so lazy we so comfortable in our willingness to give up our faith. At moments for far less than why is that what's fear inconvenience. We start looking at all the other stuff around us and how this can affect our life and set a standing your ground and faith in preaching the gospel, making disciples and going all the world we stay in our bubble that safe we do. Unless of upset anybody would only cancel running around like us. We don't want to get arguments so his back had all of the gospel and forcefully. This is seen too often in our context of Christianity relevant Hebrews 12 that is reminding us listeners values that you and I have to do well in his biblical values to do rights no matter what culture says there steps of faith that we walk in that Jesus is with us regardless of who else is around us and there's these powerful things Jesus remaining the same.

There is an encouragement here to anchor our lives and him and him alone to put our anchor to put our our our salad feet on solid ground in Christ alone nodded anything else context was in Hebrews chapter 6 again in Hebrews. It says that we have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul of our very soul of hope that answers the inner place behind the curtain work Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf as an anchor for our soul that regardless of what's happening around us, regardless of how culture sways.

There's an anchor back to the soul, and it's the word of God is to Christ, as this is our anchor is think about that immediately. Those interpreters alerted me to accept her 27th and acceptors. 27 Paul is sailing and is on the boat and the storm comes of this is massive storm that comes and begins to push the boat across the Adriatic Sea and if they did not crash on the rocks and so they're all panicking and so they started throwing anchors over the next 27, 29 us is fearing that we might run on the rocks, they let down 4 acres from the stern and pray for day to come. Another resilience gone through the anchors over it and pray for the best.

That's all they could do and I thought about that that imagery of Paul on this boat drifting storm sitting there ditching everything or throwing stuff over border trying to not say can sleep throw these anchors over in hopes that it will crash on the rocks, and I just know that sometimes our lives feel just like that sometimes our life we feel like round the ship storms come and see rocks ahead of us and we just gonna start doing whatever we can do, just not crash to do whatever we can do by staying above water and yet we have the anchor of Arsenal not just his physical anchors that they throw overboard just to stay afloat. You and I have the opportunity in our faith to be anchored in a crisis. Find the most important piece of who we are in him to get you and I we can allow fear to drive us. We can allow fear of the unknown. We can allow fear.

What's next, we allow fear of uncertainty we allow fear of culture we can allow fear of what people say all these things allows the drifts across the sea into the rocks or we say I'm in its use faith over that fear. As hard as it is, do the right thing as hard as it is unlike in a worry about people going to say about me as hard as it is, to get to the point in my life for the end of the day as long as Jesus is still with me. I'm still good. All that requires faith and the whole time. You and I have an enemy of our soul that keeps whispering in her ear, domiciled in a crash ground that Jesus is not with this.

What if what if what if anybody ever get the what if game playing in your minds. The tough spots are being what if you do step out in faith. And what if this happens in, what if you lose your job or what this person says this or what if you guessed wrong and it wasn't God, it was just you and I made a messier life. Yeah, I know this is all the same things that I deal with you deal with. We all deal with, which is why every day, every single day. The Bible says the pick up your cross daily and follow every day. That's a Sunday thing is not sworn troubles every single day. We got to get the cross of Jesus we are fallen every day there's faith involved in picking up the cross of Jesus every
