We have a president who hasn't done a very good job of that, and I mentioned yesterday on Brian show that I tried to support my president whenever I can, especially during tough spots like this.

We don't have enough of that anymore. It's worked so tribal everything is so completely hyper political and red states and blue states and you have to be against something, even if your forward if the other side has an idea that you would always agree with you have to rejected.

I mean, it's so out-of-control we have to make it stop. Or we could lose our country. So here's an example of a serious geopolitical threat and how will the American president do this is an opportunity for Pres. Biden to reset and restart. If you will, his presidency, which anyone is being objective would have to admit is a failed presidency and you have to also grapple with the fact that this is no longer an early presidency you get some honeymoon get some bedroom when you're in there a few weeks a few months this presidency and I do not believe there will be a second term. The Democrats do not even want more of this.

They just want to tromp out and hate him more than they love their country so this was the price for admission, they were willing to pay it and it's it's a tragedy actually because we we have witnessed and we have endured and ending in some cases people suffered through this first 13 months with runaway inflation and all kinds of issues. Excited to have just a little bit longer breath to explain this because it is really important to really all Americans to understand what exactly are we doing with sanctions referred sanctions. What is that what is that mean well, first ones were literally limited to the US. Not doing business with anyone in the separatist regions. Now that's really symbolic Harry because we already weren't doing necessarily business there.

And again, it wasn't even targeting Russia all targeted was this separatist region which is obviously now the front lines of this invasion, but beyond that, this first creates now that the president announced yesterday goes after Russia leads sovereign debt as well as financial institutions. Essentially the two big banks in Russia to the tune of $750 billion.

Barring you know financial transactions.

They can't get loans trying to financially hurt them, but clearly the administration is indicating that more sanctions are coming to further punch if you will, and that is why we saw yesterday Ukraine's foreign minister who just spoke an hour ago at the UN Gen. assembly. He was here in Washington. His name is Demetrio Calais by Cybele Brett Berenson's report last night amazing interviews. English is phenomenal me was meeting with Lincoln's interstate blanket as well as Pres. Biden earlier in the day, and he tweeted 3:21 AM.

That's when I come in to get ready for my first hit of 4 AM I saw a tweet from him and I was like what this it was a message saying he applauded his meetings in the sanctions of the present already unlace but he said now is the time to hit the hardest. He said airy quote more hit hard hit fast and the reason why he's saying that is because he knows that the sanctions in 2014, the US put on when he invaded Crimea essentially did nothing. It certainly didn't deter him and so now, while that for minister is facing a definite conventional warfare on the eastern side of his country. He knows that if the US and the world at large, not just Germany but also the EU, UK, Australia, will throw really binding sanctions, it could really hurt him that that would then limit to carry out what is clearly by all observers now not just going to be a limited incident, but a large-scale invasion which means there would be multiple phases. It would take weeks or months if not longer to ultimately take what could be the entire Ukrainian country which would then post up a brand-new Cold War, they could turn out very quickly because that would put Russia occupying Ukraine now with guns tip to tip with a whole handful of NATO countries, including: you can see how much that is unfolding really amazing narrative clear, concise, and one point Griff Jenkins Fox news correspondent on where we are right now with Russia, Ukraine, the president telegraphed this because he knows he knows what's coming higher energy. Obviously he knew that Russia would be squeeze. He knew the North Stream two would be halted until date date they had a book on this for a while and they know Putin's book on this and and Griff. We were a net oil exporter. Now we bag OPEC to open the spec it up were begging people who don't like us like Russia to produce more so. This energy policy, which was a failure in normal terms, I believe, is exacerbated because of Russia Ukraine now and so the American people better be prepared that a byproduct of American diplomacy is going to bring about even higher prices. Look, there is no coincidence that Putin is choosing to take this action now while he's watching soaring inflation that is long-term, not temporary administration. Tell us a year ago with respect to gas prices feeling pain at the pump as well as the grocery store and he also knows that the administration has turned our energy independence pickets off and were not going to open it in the name of climate change and so with you know a barrel wall exceeding $100. All prices as high as they are with already existing long-term inflation. He knows now is a great time to take his action and to create essentially discomfort here at home in the US it to you know I was listening to Fox coverage yesterday a little bit and Sandra Smith was was talking with the guests.

Oh how things were were quite destabilized doing the Colonial pipeline you know of the past summer hit. These are the sorts of things that good will look to do, particularly as we increase sanctions and in just a nerd out for 20 more seconds I was watching a deputy national security guy on CNN this morning and he was starting to talk about adding export controls to to the package of sanctions and a lot of people you know they got what the egg is that will export controls are essentially our ability right through foreign direct entities that make things like computer chips, we can stop them from being exported into Russia. Russian of the McCarran computer chips we get there grade a computer hacking into everything from the computer to a smart phone all the way up to a semi conductor in Russia could ultimately suffer if the US exerted some export controls.

We kind of saw this when the US went after the Chinese company while way to try and recommend that we hurt them quite badly with exactly this sort of export controls that they can expect to hear that term terminology in the coming days because that is clearly something that the White House seems to be considering in a really I think would be quite unprecedented.

If we win after an entire country. Entire industries and sectors within another country by adding export controls to the sanctions. The question now really to Mary, is whether or not in light of the fact it just in the last hour we've gotten this news depends already launching a cyber attack on Ukraine's government will we now unleash more sanctions by sundown knows is anybody's guess.

The one thing is for sure, there are a handful of critics.

I love your column today because something could be true but if nobody believes that then what is it perception versus reality perception wins in less reality successfully carries the day care. In some ways things are going pretty well. GDP growth strong last year. Obviously they came after that year when GDP growth was very weak, but it was still strong in the unemployment rate is low and yet look at yeah people on the street.

How do you feel people in general feel as bad as they did back in 2000, which you know is obviously during the housing crisis and the huge downturn there yesterday or something going on thinking.

I think the number one thing inflation. I mean, you got it.

And you know, inflation really caught a lot of people off guard.

I think it is important to know it's not just the fact that people go to the store and they see prices higher and higher. Literally everything that we but I think it's awkward because if you just think about it. It was only last March and April that the Fed was saying, look, inflation can be about 3% last year 2021 and less than a year later inflation ends up being 7.5% yes no I think it's not like that. Think about that but that like people were so caught off guard with her with the present date, but it was mother with the Fed or what it was. The everyday consumer to go to the grocery store with a really picked up by just let me you right where I wanted you to be me. That's why your Josh Mitchell at the, the president told us, and I have to give the Fed a lot of credit. I believe during the pandemic. The Fed really did a great job where they went off the rails though I don't understand why because I'm a very limited financial background three years in the financial services industry a several year stint with Pres. Trump and and and a career in the hotel industry and in a 30 year plus career in broadcasting. Now I know little bit about this.

I wouldn't call myself an expert in all but I know a little bit about the stuff and I said this is not transitory. This is going to be significant inflation it's knocking to be the numbers that we remember from the Jimmy Carter presidency where when you go to buy a car with perfect credit. You pay 21.6%. I know because I did it.

That was in about 1980-ish. I couldn't believe it. I said I AAA credit and its 21.6% very very young was my first new car and I couldn't believe my eyes and we bought our first home and it was 17 1/2% with with perfect credit to see that.

But in many respects because they don't report energy and food in the in the inflation numbers is not an and we know why they do that because they can. But this is really a double digit inflationary runaway environment.

Do you agree Josh. Now I would say that you know I would think 7.5% of pretty accurate reading of inflation.

It it does include all the components so you know I have to go by what the official data once I get nauseous I now sharpen my pencil because my understanding is that the official government numbers do not include energy.

They do not include food.

Now if they do, I concede, without even a second's argument that you are right, but my understanding is that 7.5% does not include energy or food.

But what is the right number and it died okay. That is the right index and if you get Google it you can pull up the report rarely detail about what's writhing now 7.5% of their overall, you know the cost of living how much that increased over the past 12 months, but if you do look at energy that is growing a lot more quickly than 7.5%, but it does include all that and you know now the point that you know there were when inflation was writing last year for a number of months and the administrator, saying it was transitory and it hasn't ended up being transitory now and I think that the issue it does include all that think they'll and you know you mentioned about the bike chain issues. I do think that there is an important point here. I think you know I don't think anyone really really understood how quickly people would spend their money and where they would spend it. And for what ended up happening last spring is unitedly, Congress approved all this money to go out. The household and on top of that, you know, the Fed has been a very low interest rate and it was all to stimulate the economy to get out of this pandemic induced downturn that the problem ended up being a lot of people ended up buying a lot of good just at the time when these bottlenecks were occurring and not simply supply issues here is not simply that you know companies can't make things fast and apathetic people ended up spending a lot of money in part because they got a lot of what there was, from money unemployment insurance or the stock market was booming how prices going up all it was like the perfect storm and fill it with both of the things that I think that that where there were some miscalculation on the part of officials you know think it's just applied supply-chain issues and not just that it's both on the demand and this is really interesting and really friends � I promise you was can be very interesting split decision because in 1957 the CPI created an index that's were talking about, correct CPI right yet okay excludes energy and food and it's right here in black and white. It excludes energy and food. I'm not trying to be right it. I want to try kill Michaud to be right III you're right that I there. There are two narrative measures buried the overall CPI place right in there called core CPI.

What core inflation, which excludes energy and that there is a subcomponent that excluded that exclude you know certain components to smooth out.

It just depends on which one you want to look at but if you're talking about 7.5% that of the overall headline figure that includes everything you did pull up if you Google CPI pull up the latest reported in the BLS right I promised you I would lying to you, the Wall Street Journal, acquiring amazing but that's the BLS you're talking about the publishes a correct yeah and it says right here.

The BLS publishes thousands of CPI indexes each month including the headline all items CPI for all urban consumers. Most importantly, none of the prominent prominent legislator uses of the CPI excludes food and energy so that that I believe the reading of that supports you.

So I just cite it.

This is not I wanted this dad.

I just want Brian show to be correct, because I go on with the fact that CPI doesn't include the food and energy, but that is under core inflation does not exactly the court really excluded everything and again it within that headlight number and getting out the. The idea being that you want to like you strip out some of the components that Wang up-and-down oil was one of them that you want to get the underlying sort of move their trend.

Avoid the cost of living is doing that you can strip out the two component, but the 7.5, number is, in fact, including everything that's important plans.

Thanks for the opportunity to torture and I mean of course Josh Ross in terms your article is absolutely on point and and I enjoyed reading it and enjoyed the conversation with Brian's audience in terms of sorta deconstructing it a little bit in terms of why the economic boom can't lift America's spirits because the American people don't feel it correct is it that simple right well I think yet that you look at real wages which is basically what you are taking are actually going down, you know, and in other words, the cost of living.

The cost of going to the grocery store buying gasoline is rising more quickly than on average people narrowly wages and so your earning power going down and I think that concern is that you know there is no one really sees a way out of. I think people are have lots faith in the idea that institutions whether Congress or the bad you really knows what's going on in the polls show that people have lost confidence or trust in the ability of official to get out of the pandemic to get out of the inflationary environment and so you know I think a lot of people feel like knowing that that will keep in mind there's other factors here that my story sheds, which is you know there are a shortage of product the money go to the grocery store, uniting people get really flustered when they want to buy their favorite brand of what have you built core Band-Aids or what have you, and they can't find it and they have to go for you. Either they they're not able to purchase that I mean the grocery store that I got you there were a number of days and weeks where they didn't have any yet and so you know people like one thing that they love GDP grew at 5.5% last year. That was the strongest years that kind of abstract idea. When you go to the grocery store every day and you can't get your eggs or when you buy on my aunt take month to month and month to month or year to get out of but the thing that you notice really quickly and you tell yourself what something is wrong something going on here and on the one you and I keep hearing that the economy is doing great but why cannot I grocery store the other. The other thing on natural quickly and eager to hear all questions but you know you can see in the pulpit, there was a very big declining consumer confidence around around August think that had a lot to do with the new wave of Delta Delta infection that came on board and then was omicron and I think people were so excited and were expecting that we were heading out of the pandemic and then all of a sudden this new weight comes on board math mandate come back into play in a restaurant restaurant at the hours are indoor dining again. I think people a lot of people lost faith that we were heading out of and I think you know to give it a black last spring.

Pres. Biden that book by Independence Day. You know, this virus is not to be gone but we will start to declare our independence from the virus just works were turning a corner, just when we thought we were turning a corner all the fun we hit the break, exactly, were in the final minutes.

What I want to do is I want to recommend that folks we Josh because this is really a great story about how were usually celebrating when these different indices are strong employment and all these other things but that this is unusual, that it's not following that give us a closing minute on why you think that is well you know I like taking read that again report. Basically, why, why don't people see something as good that they're looking at this this is not even like the glass is half-full. I mean, the prices of anything, you know, this is not every time the president or the president's press secretary says all these incredible statistics about this is the greatest in history, the country and all these things no one believes it right so again I think if you go to get dictation you speak right writing every week. You know, you sort of you start to think yourself on the map less money in my pocket.

Down the road and if there's no plan to stop these increases arising but my wages are going up, same page, you start to become concerned enough to look at the stock market. I mean, you know a lot of people are not exposed to the stock market and so while the stock market was booming up until the past month. A lot of people don't have don't own stock prices.

You know it here if you're wealthy. If you have enough money to buy in Washington DC or New York or where Hattie South Florida yet hear you're enjoying you know the rising price of your home. But if you don't you start to think yourself rent going up the growing up I never got yelled at by going up in my paycheck is going up but not nearly as much that is needed to live the American dream � I'm only jumping in, because were out of heartbreak.

But I'll tell you out of everything that the input the information you shared was so terrific. I do appreciate the clarification in terms of inflation versus core inflation that was very educational for everyone, including myself, Josh.
