The JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Happy Friday to you. I hope you had a tremendous day. I hope you're having a great evening, a great afternoon.

I don't know where you live, but I hope you're good. I'm gonna be hanging out with you for one more hour. Oh yeah, I've been here for three.

This show gets started every weekday at 6 p.m Eastern, 3 Pacific. Yeah, that means I won't be here tomorrow. Every now and then everybody goes, hey, I didn't hear you on Saturday. You're damn right you didn't. I'm not here.

Not me. Monday, Friday. You can always listen on the free Odyssey app.

A-U-D-A-C-Y. It's free. It means it costs you nothing. Thank you to people listening live on their local Infinity Sports Network affiliate. If you got Sirius XM, it's channel 158. If you got a smart speaker, you know how technology works is, oh, maybe somebody hooked it up for you, but you talk to a machine. Just ask it to play the Infinity Sports Network.

I'm in Atlanta, Georgia. Manny Rodriguez is holding it down for us tonight in New York City. Yeah, we got so much more to do and we've done a lot already.

Of course, at the end of the show, we'll take you through a few things that took place this day in sports history. Man, it is no, oh my God, it is November 1st. Oh my God. Halloween was yesterday. I think I saw Mariah Carey put out a message. Mariah Carey's like, now is my time to shine. Get ready to hear all I want for Christmas. Just ad nauseam between now and yeah, it extends after Christmas.

It'll take you all the way to January 1st. Mariah Carey is like, forget, forget Thanksgiving. Like Halloween.

It's my time. Next time I step into a CVS or drugstore, I know it's going to be Christmas style. Forget Thanksgiving. Let's get straight to the holidays. Like relax. Damn, if you're Mariah Carey, I get it. If you're selling candy, candy canes, let's just give it a break.

Just a little while. If you want to be a part of the show, it's simple. 855-212-4227.

That's 855-212-4227. Man, we've had a lot going on today. Thank you so much to our guests. Manny Navarro came through to talk with us about the U, the University of Miami. As they move forward, getting ready to take on Duke tomorrow.

Thank you so much to our guests last hour. Ryan Wood joined us from the Green Bay Post Gazette to talk about the Packers and the Lions. It looks like Jordan Love is going to be all set and ready to go despite his groin injury. And well, we can certainly hope so.

I think he's going to play. It's the Lions. Packers are 6-2, Lions are 6-1.

No one can afford to seed ground in the NFC North. And then of course, in big news today, happy news. Much happier than, you know, fans burning buses and looting after a championship. Today, the Dodger fans were, they were happy. They had a parade.

And in a rarity, prepare yourselves. When it was time for the players to speak at Dodger Stadium at the conclusion of the parade, Shohei Ohtani spoke with no translator in English. And this is what Shohei Ohtani had to say. This is so special. I'm so honored to be here and to be part of this team. Congratulations Los Angeles.

Thank you fans. They're all his friends. They're all his friends.

I mean, damn it. Listen, when you're in America, he's been here, what, six years now? You would think he knows something. He's not a dummy. Unless it comes to his finances.

I don't know. He's making more money than me. 700 million and 2 million a year.

He's getting paid 700 over 20 years. I guess he's not a dummy. Unless it comes to Ipe Mizuhara. But congratulations to Shohei Ohtani. And thank you so much for, you know, sharing your English, your acumen in English. Your acumen in English. That's good. This guy speaks English.

I know he does. His name is Jack Flaherty. This man was a mid-season trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers coming from Detroit. Jack Flaherty, earlier today, he showed love to the MVP of the World Series, Freddie Freeman.

All of this is courtesy of Sportsnet LA. Jack Flaherty, positive, kind words on Freddie. This is unbelievable. Like, seeing Freddie pictures everywhere. Freddie's a freaking man. I love that dude. I would give him, I would give him a kiss right now.

Like, the city showing out, it's unbelievable. Yeah, I don't think he wants a kiss. You got a wife and kids. I don't think he wants a kiss from you. Not at all. And someone who didn't necessarily give a kiss. Well, he was doing a lot of jaw-rating when he got on the bases.

Kike Hernandez. He decided to put in two cents about, I guess it's a New York dig. He talked about Ice Cube's performance representing LA and Fat Joe's representing New York. Let's just say it didn't turn out good for either Fat Joe or the Yankees. Ice Cube came out in Game 2. And with his performance, we didn't even need to play the game.

We had already won it. Then we go to New York. And this guy, he used to be fat. He's not fat anymore. His name is Joe. He came out insane. And guess what?

We didn't even need to play because after that performance, we had already won. Oh my, oh my. He's taking shots at Fat Joe.

Oh my God. And Fat Joe's a nice guy now. Gotta get at Fat Joe.

You gotta bother. Fat Joe's performance was not good. It was not good. It was also not necessary.

It seemed ill placed. But damn, never in my life, not in the nineties. Nope. Kike Hernandez would not have gotten away with that one. Not at all. The Fat Joe in 2024, an older, kinder, gentler, a wiser, calmer Fat Joe.

Kike Hernandez would live to see another day. But damn, everybody's so bold. I don't know what he was drinking, but not a nice thing to say about Fat Joe. Pretty bad. Let's get back to some positivity here.

Okay. Here's some positivity. Dave Roberts. He had a chance to chat with Jim Rome right here on the Infinity Sports Network. And Dave Roberts, he also showed love.

We need a lot of love after that Fat Joe diss. He talked about Freddie Freeman, who unfortunately his son just diagnosed with a disease that made his body go limp. Thank God his son is back to full health and is recovering. Dave Roberts talked about his strength in this man and what he's been able to do on the field.

Listen. There were days that I don't know how, certainly a training staff in medicine certainly helps Freddie, but it's just this guy's got the heart of a lion. And, you know, he just willed his way to kind of go, you know, not think about the ribs or the ankle. I mean, he's legging out triples and doubles and going first to third and obviously hitting the homers and this guy is special. And that's why guys like Shohei played with one arm and, you know, everyone's banged up. But like Freddie said, it's everyone's hurt right now. And my job is to go out there and play baseball. And he did that.

Oh, listen. That man had to go through it all, all throughout the course of the season. I had to step away from the team, had a busted up leg, as you just heard from Dave Roberts.

He's like, I got time off. Freddie Freeman did. And now he's back to full health and he's hitting home runs. He had six consecutive home runs in World Series games, four consecutive here.

They got two championships now with the Braves and then another one with the Dodgers. Freddie Freeman. This man is building himself a Hall of Fame resume and he's building himself.

He has built himself love on both coasts, the East Coast, the West Coast. What, what can't Freddie do? Yankee fans were holding up signs telling Freddie Freeman, Freddie, please stop. Freddie Freeman still can't believe he has two World Series titles. I know it's hard to believe really.

I haven't sunk in yet, but I think this is made up for 2022. These fans are going crazy and this is fun to be a part of. And the good thing is, you think about the parade, you think about the experience in Los Angeles. And Manny helped me out. Nobody lit a bust on fire during the parade today, right? That didn't happen?

As far as I know, no. It's good. It's one thing that we did not need.

I'll tell you one thing that we may need. We heard Shohei Ohtani speak English. Well, he's not the only Japanese star on the Dodgers, right? I have no idea what Yoshinobu Yamamoto sounds like.

None. I know that he has a contract worth more than $300 million for having never pitched in the United States of America, having never pitched in Major League Baseball. They gave him a lot of money and he contributed when he was healthy. But I'll tell you this, after listening to Shohei Ohtani deliver his thank you to the fans, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, he was pressured into doing the same damn thing.

Listen to this. Hey, never, never in my life did I think I'd hear people so excited to hear somebody speak in English. Manny, what are some other words you think he knows how to say? Go ahead. Oh, Yoshinobu? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Fastball, changeup, curveball, single. You think it stops there? I think I think Shohei knows a lot more than Yoshinobu. Oh, you've been here six years. I would hope so.

Exactly. So, I mean, I don't think Yoshinobu goes very deep. I think I've heard Shohei Ohtani speak in Spanish sometimes, too. So, Shohei's been here for a while.

Give Yoshinobu a little bit more time. He'll start speaking fluently to Dominican players. Oh, I can imagine.

I'm sure he also knows all of the curse words. I give players who come from outside the United States of America and don't know English, I give them credit. People give them crap.

It's tough speaking a language that's not your native tongue. And then at the same time, these athletes are smart enough to be able to say, hey, and then at the same time, these athletes are smart enough to just, they're staying out of the crap. And when I say the crap, you can't get caught speaking to the media when you technically are not speaking to them.

We got so many professional athletes that just get wound up. And I'm not talking about, you know, Trayvon digs, looking at Twitter, looking at social media and getting upset at what somebody has to tweet about you after a game. I'm talking about some of the reporters who want to, they want a story. They want a quote. They want to tie you up. They want to twist your words. They want to get you. They can't get you talking to an interpreter.

99% of the times they can't get you. This is not Trayvon digs saying something crazy. This is not Lance Armstrong threatening and lying.

This is not Alex Rodriguez, Lana, Katie Couric. Sammy Sosa is a great example. This man sat in front of Congress and all the years that he spoke English, all of a sudden it comes down to a congressional testimony about whether or not he used illegal substances. Sammy Sosa spoke no English.

I don't know if Sammy Sosa is a genius, but he tried it. You got to give him an A for effort. A effort doesn't start with an A, but go ahead. A for effort. Yeah.

Good. And speaking of English, this guy speaks English and he finally spoke today too. He's not Japanese. He's from Cameroon. It is Joel Embiid. This man out to start the season for the Philadelphia 76ers.

They got a record of one and three. Paul George is also out dealing with a hyper-extended knee. Joel Embiid showed up today and he was actually defending himself.

Everybody who says that he doesn't have heart has no desire to play. Joel Embiid had some words for everybody today. He basically said, it's not fair. He said it meaner than I did. Listen to this. I've done way too much for the city and putting myself at risk for people to be saying that. So I do think he's like that dude. He's not here.

Marcus, whatever his name is. I've done way too much for this city to be treated like this. So don't wait, wait too much.

But like I said, I wish I was as lucky as other ones, but that doesn't mean that I'm not trying to, you know, I'm not, you know, doing whatever it takes to be out there, which I'm going to be here pretty soon. No, he won't be out there as soon as tomorrow. The Grizzlies are in Philadelphia at the Sixers. Joel Embiid will not be playing. He could have avoided a lot of this if he and the 76ers told the truth about his knee instead of calling it knee injury risk management. His knee sucks.

Can't play right now. Even the NBA was like, OK, y'all didn't do anything crazy bad, but y'all are stupid. One hundred thousand dollar fine. Just just be honest. It's not that difficult thing to do, right? I think people learn that as as youths.

Be honest, learn some things here. If anybody's suffering, it's the poor six of fans who are buying tickets thinking that, hey, Joel Embiid had an entire summer off outside of the Olympics, still a long enough time. Hey, he's going to play. He did it.

The Kawhi Leonard also. New Arena, not playing. Must be nice to get paid to rehab. Not the worst life in the world. We got plenty of people who have to rehab and they suffer. They got to pay for rehab. They got to copay this and pay that.

And these guys getting paid millions of dollars to not show up to their main job. It must be nice. Must be real nice. Eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven.

That's eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. We're going to take a break when we come back. I want to give you an update on some football because, yeah, we got things on the college side that are already under way. We got Boise State.

We got San Diego State. Speaking of Kawhi Leonard, I'm going to give you an update on that game. Talk about Ashton Gentsy and what he is doing tonight as he continues to try to break records and maybe even win a Heisman.

I'll give you that update, of course, at the end of the show. I'm going to share with you a few things that took place this day in sports history. We're going to take a quick run through some of the best NFL games that you need to watch for the weekend as well. We have so much to do if you want to call up eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven.

The number again is eight five five two one two forty two twenty seven. Happy Friday. Happy weekend.

Happy first of November. Don't forget to throw the clock back. It's the J.R. Sport Reshow, the Infinity Sports Network.

It is the J.R. Sport Reshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. This portion of the show is brought to you by Ethos Life, the easy way to get life insurance in ten minutes, up to two million dollars in coverage with no medical exam and just a few health questions.

You know, we talked about the U University of Miami taking on Duke earlier in the show. We talked about the Ohio State University taking on Penn State tomorrow and Happy Valley. And then even tonight, we got we got college football tonight. And there's there's really one man to watch tonight.

His name is Ashton Gente. This man might be the first running back to run his way to a Heisman since some other guy named Derek Henry. That's some some high praise for a running back, especially a guy five foot nine. That at one point in the season, this man was averaging as a running back.

I don't care what level he's in. Ten yards a carry. Ridiculous. And so Boise State taking on San Diego State where Boise State are heavy favorites. They currently lead 28 to 10. San Diego State just got on the board. And to give you an update on what's going on, it's been the Maddox Madsen show so far for Boise State.

Three touchdown passes and Ashton Gente. It's still early. It's early. It's very early.

Game's not over. 12 carries for 36 yards. Only three yards a carry. Disappointing. It's early.

Doesn't really matter. Boise State is going to come out on top unless there's some type of massive choke job. Given what they've been able to do so far this season, a six and one record, they are ranked 15th in the country. Not too shabby for these Broncos.

And Gente? Yeah, he's in that Heisman conversation. I don't know if he's going to go out there and catch a Barry Bonds most rushing yards all time on a college level.

Entering into tonight, entering into tonight. Gente has had 1,376 yards rushing and 18 rushing touchdowns. He is 1,252 yards away from tying Barry Sanders' record. Is he going to get there? I'm not so sure.

I don't think so. He has some work to do tonight. He's going to have to bust out a few big ones. And that's if they leave him all the way into the end of the game, the way this one is going.

No need to put him out there unless you want to run up the score and run up his stats. Shout out to Boise State. 855-212-4227. That's 855-212-4227. Russell is here from Idaho. He's calling from Napa, Idaho.

You're on the JR Sportbreeze show. What's up, Russell? Hey JR, can you hear me?

I got you loud and clear. How are you? Hey, I'm doing really good, bud. Really good.

Yeah, I called up and I talked to your tech there with you and had to get the reception number of that game being broadcast out here. And I appreciate that. But yeah, they're really quite the team, man. I really wish the best for them this year. Got some really good star guys going for them.

Yeah, no doubt. Have you been out to any of the games? You're just watching all of them. Oh, I'm just basically been listening to them.

I haven't had a chance to get to that stadium yet. Oh, okay. So looking forward to it.

Okay. Well, thank you so much, Russell. Hey, good luck to your Broncos, okay? Hey, big time. Good luck and a great show once again, buddy. Oh, thank you so much, Russell, for calling from Idaho.

Oh, two things. I've been to Idaho once. I need to go back. It's beautiful. One of the best stakes I ever had in my life. And then bodybuilding.com has their headquarters out there. That's why I was there. That bodybuilding.com.

Nice gym, as you can imagine, just gyms everywhere. Boise State, five game winning streak, only one loss on the year. And I don't want to put them in the same category of Miami.

That's 8-0. But these are like the next level and the next step teams. You know, they're not not at the upper echelon. They're not out here competing in the power four. I want to call it the power five so bad.

I do. But hey, Pac-12 doesn't exist anymore. Not now. They're trying to reconfigure.

Damn it. They're trying to get to 12. But the fact of the matter is, it's competitive. Boise State, UNLV, whose quarterback quit halfway through the year. What else do we have after that? Let's just call a spade a spade. There's nothing else than that.

That Mountain West. Ashton Gente. It's not even a guarantee, depending on what his numbers look like the rest of the year, that he's going to end up with a Heisman. Not even. A lot of people, and we heard this earlier in the week, people are taking a look at Colorado and, you know, are, are Chidor Sanders. Is he going to end up with Heisman votes? Of course he is. It's Travis Henry. Are they going to go out there and split some of the votes up when it comes down to voting?

It's tricky there. And let's say, Manny, who do you think is going to end up with the Heisman? Is it going to be Ashton by default or the Sanders going to chop it up? Are people going to respect what Cam is doing with Miami?

What do you think? I think people are going to respect what, what's going down in Miami right now. I mean, you, I would love for Ashton Gente to, to win it all, but I mean, I just can't see a running back winning the award nowadays. What, given the status of, well, if he breaks, if he gets close to Barry, you think they don't give it to him? Yeah. If he gets closer to Barry, then yes, maybe we'll, we'll have, we'll have a deeper conversation about it, but I don't know. I really like what Cam Ward's doing and down in Miami, ACC.

Yeah, sure. I mean, even Travis Henry, you know, kind of trying to lay his, his claim about a month ago, it's just like, well, I play offense and I play defense and he just touches the ball and they, I get more touches and look how much more productive I am on both sides. But if he breaks Barry Sanders' record, I'm not sure he's going to do it. I don't think he will. I don't think he's Barry Sanders' record. I'm not sure he's going to do it.

I don't think he will. I mean, you have that hot start. I don't care who you are.

And maybe I'm wrong. I'm not no running back. Nobody's handing me the ball. I'm not getting hit. I'm not getting knocked around, you know, 12 games out of the year. I'm not going to practices and camp and all that.

I'm not doing none of it. He would have to think the running back will wear down and his numbers are, his numbers were astronomical. A running back to average. And he did this for the first almost, almost five games, six games.

Ten yards a cat. What? This man is a walking first down. I mean, if you're going to give him a nickname, first down, coming through the hallway, first down, first down. Like what running back does that? He does.

They make jokes about Gentsy. He stands in the backfield like he's Michael Myers getting ready to receive the ball. Sign me up. I want to see a new running back. You know, we have so much of the NFL right now that is predicated on passing. It's a passing league. This is an arcade league. Football is arcade.

Throw the ball, throw the ball, throw the ball. We've seen the development of running backs to be, you know, glorified slot receivers in a lot of cases. We don't have too many Derrick Henry's left.

I mean, I can, we can go back through time. We don't have bruising running backs. You know, we talked about this earlier in the show when Ryan Wood joined us from the Green Bay Post Gazette. Looking at a Josh Jacobs, somebody who's going to drop his shoulder into you and try to exert his will and his force and forget Derrick Henry. He's in a league of his own. He might be the last ridiculously physical running back we see. And he literally is like the juggernaut. You hand this man a football.

He is off to the races. You can't touch him. You can't catch him. You can't tackle him.

Whatever the hell training he does down in Dallas or whatever the hell he was eating before he got to Alabama, I have no idea. I want to see, and I miss the bruising backs because we see it. The NFL wants to be safe and I understand and can't hip drop tackle and you can't hit a guy here. Can't hit a guy there. The game is inherently violent. And yeah, I can be bloodthirsty without looking for injury, but understanding like the players do that. Hey, when you step out onto that field, you're, you're opening yourself up to injury. You are going to get hurt. Having said that, I'm Mr. Running Back Settle.

Just scare the hell out of you. Nobody wants to tackle Derrick Henry. There is not a man past that defensive line. Once they can't get a finger on him, there's not a linebacker. There certainly isn't a defensive back that wants to bring that man down, which made it comical a couple of weeks ago when the NBA player, Anthony Edwards, who played football here in Georgia, by the way, he said, yeah, if I played full time, if I had a chance full time, I'd be like Derrick Henry.

I guess that's the type of confidence it takes to be a successful professional athlete, utmost confidence in yourself, even when people look at you and go, what the hell are you talking about? Hey, good luck to Ashton Jensey. Not the hottest of starts of this evening. Hopefully he finishes on a high note. Right now, a 37 yards rushing. There's still more football to go. Boise State leads San Diego State 28 to 10. It's the JR Sport Reshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network.

855-212-4227. We are going to take a break. It's our last break of the show. When we come back on the other side, it's time to wrap things up. Tell you about a few things that took place this day in sports history. As we go into break, I'm still going to try to wrap my mind around the fact that today is November 1st. They say time flies when you're having fun, but damn it, it just flies regardless. Right now, we are going to fly our way into a news flash.

What's going on in the world of sports? Here he is, Pete McCarthy. It is the JR Sport Reshow here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. 855-212-4227.

It's 855-212-4227. I want to say what a week, but it's a different month already. It's November. How the hell did we get here? I feel like it was just July 4th. I'm trying to remember what the hell I did for Memorial Day. I don't remember.

Probably nothing. Labor Day, don't remember it. I was mad that Labor Day was here because that means the 4th of July was done. But then look how far we are through football season.

What is it? Time flies. How did we get here already? Manny, it's November 1st, man. Didn't it just feel like summer yesterday?

Yes. But even having said that, I think it's still pretty damn warm all over the country, so maybe it still is summer. What is it, 80 degrees in New York today? Yesterday? Yeah, yesterday it was 80 degrees.

Today it was a little bit chillier by like 75, but right now when I step out of this building, it's supposed to be in the 50s, 40s. Oh, okay. Now is the 80 degrees stretch over? Oh, that's all over, baby. It is all downhill from here. Okay.

Well, for now. So what are we looking like for highs in New York over the next week? Is it going to be in the 60s or something? No, baby, we're talking 50s.

50s? Wow. Yeah. Wow. What a drop.

Okay. So yeah, maybe it is going to feel like November. I'm like, damn, give us another month.

A little less than that. Give us four weeks. It's going to be Thanksgiving already.

I feel like I was just sitting in the pool minding my business. Here we are. And then Cowboys football right for you. What, to punish America on Thanksgiving?

It's an American classic. Yeah. At least the Lions are good right now, huh? It's about damn time. Yeah.

It took long enough. It used to be a Thanksgiving tradition. Watch the terrible lines for the only time of the year on Thanksgiving and then see whatever the hell the Cowboys do. In the NFL, as greedy as they are, of course, they taken it a step further.

Basically monopolize the entire day. This Thanksgiving, the Lions are going to take on the Colts. Oh my God. Oh, what is that? Well, what is this thing?

Oh, maybe it's the bears. What day is Thanksgiving? I don't know. Let's see. Oh no. Okay. Good. Good.

Thank you. It's the bears and the lions on Thanksgiving. I'll sign me up for that.

Sign me up. What other, what is the other Thanksgiving day again? Let's see. November 28 NFL schedule week 12. Damn. That'll be week 12 already.

Wow. We got Green Bay at, Oh, what year is this? Why the hell did they send me to 2024?

What type of ridiculousness is this? We are in 2024. No, it's 23. Chicago at Detroit. Great. Oh, this is going to be one to kind of make people vomit. We got the New York Giants at the Dallas Cowboys.

Oh, that's right. We have Miami at Green Bay, which at that point will be just kind of, uh, because why not? We, we needed another Thursday game, you know, Thursday night wasn't enough. We remember we had the butt fumble by Mark Sanchez on Thanksgiving, pretty pathetic. And then because the NFL needs to absolutely make money with Amazon, Amazon's paying them enough. Hey, on Friday, we have the Kansas city chiefs and an afternoon matchup with Las Vegas.

Yeah. We got black Friday football between the Raiders and Kansas city. So you don't have to wait too much longer.

Give it about four weeks. All the NFL football that you can go out there and handle and you'll blink. And then after that, it'll be December 1st. NFL just pretty much monopolizing your whole damn life. It's just how it works.

A week 13 of the NFL season. Damn. And here come the Mariah Carey tunes too. She already put out her.

I don't know what to call it. The bat signal, the Mariah signal yesterday. You're okay. You got, you got brainwashed already. Oh, I am very ready for it. You're ready. What for, for Christmas or Mariah Carey? Oh, yes.

Both. Okay. Any particular reason you got a birthday coming up? Why are you so into it? Cause I like getting gifts. Oh, okay. Well, good for you. I like getting gifts and I like looking at Mariah Carey. Oh, okay.

Not bad. Whatever, whatever works, Manny, whatever makes you happy. And so what are you miserable? The other 12 months of the year? The other 11 months? Yes, precisely. Absolutely. Are you kidding me? Okay.

All right. Well, we don't like miserable people around here, so let's get to some positivity. Let's go back in time.

Maybe you can find some positivity. Let's take a look at quite a few things that took place this day in sports history today. It's Friday, November 1st, the year is 2024. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history.

You see, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything and it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the JR sport brief show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is the JR sport brief show here with you coast to coast on the infinity sports network. Yeah, November 1st.

Wow. Let's go back in time. We got a few things that took place this day in sports history.

How about this? In 1946, November 1st, the NBA, then known as the Basketball Association of America, it held its very first game between the New York Knickerbockers and the Toronto Huskies. The Knicks, the Knickerbockers, they beat the Huskies 68 to 66 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.

Yeah, far off from the Air Canada Center or whatever the hell they call it today. And certainly not the Raptors and the Knicks. First NBA game this day, November 1st, 1946. If you hit the fast forward button, congratulations. Because in 1966 on November 1st, the NFL, it awarded a franchise to New Orleans on All Saints Day. On that day, they did not play a game, but they were born. The New Orleans Saints.

Hit the fast forward button. This day in sports history, 1996, November 1st, Shaquille O'Neal, no longer a member of the Orlando Magic, made his debut in Tinseltown with the Los Angeles Lakers. His Lakers beat the Suns 96 to 82 at the Forum, the old Western Forum in Inglewood.

Shaq had 23 points, 14 rebounds in 35 minutes. He ended up with quite a few championships out there, three of them. 1998, Steve Young, November 1st. Steve Young, Jerry Rice, they connected for their 80th career touchdown in the Niners. Unfortunately, they lost to the Packers, got eaten alive on a defensive line. They lost 36 to 22. Let's fast forward a little bit more.

November 1st, the year is 2008. Michigan was, well, they were cooked, not like they are now though. I mean, well, they were cooked more then than they are now. Purdue, they beat Michigan. The final score was 48 to 42. Michigan fell to two and seven. This ended Michigan's streak of 33 straight bowl appearances. This was Michigan's first losing season since 1967. And you want to know how the game ended?

It ended on a hook and ladder play. Listen to this courtesy of the Big Ten Network. Second and seven for Purdue. Michigan 32 yard line. They're going press man coverage, man free back into safety, but still.

Oh, and the lateral down the sidelines, turning to the end zone. Touchdown! What a call!

What a play! Anytime Michigan loses a big deal. I mean, they was losing a lot then.

And they finally won again when Harbaugh came through and then he left. He would have got a punish. Who wants a punishment? Nobody.

November 1st, 2017. Brian Cashman is not going to like this one because the Astros, they beat the Dodgers five to one in game seven of the World Series to win their first World Series title. Brian Cashman, manager, general manager of the New York Yankees.

He does not appreciate this. Take a listen to the final call. Trade it over here because of the Sanchez success. Here's a ground ball.

Right side could do it. The Houston Astros are world champions for the first time in franchise history. Brian Cashman will tell you, should have been, should have been me. Should have been the Yankees, should have been me. We got robbed. What do you got to say now, Brian Cashman?

You didn't get robbed this week, did you? Guys are dropping balls, not covering bases. It's just pathetic, sad. Where's the fundamentals that he doesn't know? Doesn't know either.

Hey, how about this? November 1st, last year, November 1st, 2023. Because the Rangers, they won the World Series. They beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, this time last year five to nothing in Arizona. And the Rangers, they won there. First World Series.

Listen to this. And there's sixty-third season. It's happened! The Texas Rangers win the World Series! Yeah, it's wild, man. If you think about how hot some of these players get year to year, there's always one guy that's just so outstanding. This year, it was Freddie Freeman.

You just never know. Well, there you have it, folks. Just a few things that took place this day in sports history. Just a kind little welcome to November.

I hope you have an amazing November, and just for the hell of it. And we've done a lot this show. Thank you to Ryan Wood for joining us from the Green Bay Post Gazette, talking about the past. And we'll see you next time. Thank you so much for joining us from the Green Bay Post Gazette, talking about the Packers and the Lions.

Thank you so much earlier in the show. We had Manny Navarro coming through to talk to us about the U. We talked about Ohio State and Penn State. We heard Joel Embiid. He's just like, of course I want to play. I'm just hurt. It's disrespectful what you guys are saying to me that I don't want to play. Gave love to the New York Jets, but actually we're going to talk to Lamar Jackson.

He's going to play a football game this Sunday as well as the Ravens get ready to take on the Broncos. And of course, we talked about the Dodgers because last year, the Rangers won a series at this time. Today, it was the Dodgers. Yesterday, two days ago, it was the Dodgers. Let's listen to Shohei Ohtani one more time.

Speak English. This is so special. I'm so honored to be here and to be part of this team. Congratulations.

Los Angeles. Thank you. Yeah, man. Man, it's Shohei Ohtani. Listen to him speak makes me feel special. There's no way in hell that that guy was running a crime syndicate.

This is the biggest ruse in the world, period. I don't think so. Shout out to Shohei. And you, you make me special like Dodger fans make Shohei special. Thank you for listening. If you missed a minute of the show, hit rewind on the free Odyssey app. I'll be back with you on Monday, 6 p.m. Eastern, 3 Pacific. Thank you for listening. You can find me everywhere at JR Sport Brief.

Thank you so much to our producer tonight, Manny Rodriguez. Y'all be safe. Be smooth. Be cool. Be well. Have a great weekend. Enjoy the football. Enjoy all of the sports. Bart Winkler coming up next here at the Infinity Sports Network, JR Sport Pre-Show, done.
