Bible Wonders - Writing On Your Heart

So, today on Bible Wonders, I wonder if you would wonder with me, how do you write on your heart, right?

Because if you look in Deuteronomy 6 after we talked about this a couple episodes, Hero Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord. And then it says, and you shall love the Lord, thy God with all thine heart and with all thine soul and with all thine might. And then it says, what we're going to talk about today is, and these words, which I command this day, shall be in thine heart. Well, really, really fun to look at that verse in Hebrew from my perspective, because writing on our heart is not something that we're just inherently know how to do. And so, to look at this in Hebrew really gives us some insight that I think is absolutely beautiful. And, you know, he's saying, essentially, and we know that as we come to Christ, that, you know, his law is going to be written in our heart.

And how exactly does that work? Well, the word for laws, or the word that, you know, he says, I command that these words of these commandments be written in your heart. Well, that word in Hebrew is mitzvah. You might have heard it, that there are 620 mitzvahs that the Jews follow. And the word means commandments.

Of course, there's the original 10 commandments. Those are mitzvahs too. But the word mitzvah is just a phenomenal word.

And I thought if we spent a little time on it this morning, it might help us to see how we actually write these on our heart is to actually know what we're writing on our hearts, which are literally mitzvahs. So, the beautiful thing about the word mitzvah is you can hear that mumma sound, that is a mem, which you're going to find that letter, the beginning of Messiah, right? So, you get an idea that it's Jesus. It's also the beginning of the word water, because he's the living water. And it means Torah as well. It means the Bible. So, it's a beautiful thing that when you think about this em sound, you'll also find it at the end of the word shalom, right?

You hear that em sound? Because again, a lot of the peace, the word shalom means peace, comes from having these commandments in our hearts. And it's an amazing thing that as we ask Jesus to come into our heart, he brings the word with him. He does, he does because he is the word.

And so, how we actually get these mitzvahs into our hearts is first and foremost by inviting Jesus into your heart. I mean that when he comes, he brings the word with him because he is the word. And he is the living water. So, you get springs of living water, they're going to come out of your heart, right?

And the woman on the well as he explained that. So, it's absolutely beautiful that the beginning of the word command is in fact Jesus, the letter mem, and all the things that he is. So, that gets us in our, gets him in our heart.

The next letter, I just, this time of year, just wows me because it is ezadi, which we've talked about before means tree, but it also means righteous. And so, you know, Jesus died on a tree that we would be righteous, okay? And so, these commands are what brings righteousness. And so, Jesus, right? When he comes in, he brings his righteousness.

You put on the breast plate of righteousness. That's ezadi. And that's that letter. And when you look at it, it looks like a tree.

It literally does. The word tree begins with that letter zadi as well. So, it has everything to do with a tree always points at a right angle, right? It's trying to get to the sun. No matter what the situation is, it's trying to do what's right at a right angle.

It's just, it's all part of the deal. So, you get this mem, and then you get righteousness. So, you get Jesus' righteousness, and then a vav. And that vav means that this literally is like Jacob's ladder. It's coming down from heaven.

So, here's this beautiful thing. Jesus' righteousness coming down from heaven. And then the ah sound at the end of that is a hei, which means behold.

It literally means expression. And so, a mitzvah is an expression of Jesus' righteousness coming down from heaven. And so, our hearts become an expression of Jesus' righteousness coming down from heaven when we write these mitzvahs on our heart. Made possible by that temple curtain being torn in two that Jesus would enter into your Holy of Holies. It's something to wonder about today on Bible Wonders. Do we have to wonder? I do. I do.
