Welcome to the Kerwin Baptist Church Podcast. While a lot of the things that are going on, it might seem that it's gaining momentum and that we that believe God's word are somewhat in the minority. But I want you to understand right now that the heathen are literally building a pit that they will fall in. Do you understand God's word?
And we're not here to criticize or go after people, but I want you to understand while you might think sometimes that this world is getting worse and worse, they are literally building the very pit that they will fall in when that time comes. Notice if you would, verse 16. The Lord is known by the judgment which he executed.
Wait a minute. I thought the Lord is known because of his love. I thought God is known because of his mercy. And how many of you can, I guess, agree with me this morning that with God he is plenious in mercy?
Thank God for that. And how many of you can say that the greatest love, literally the epitome, the example of love is our savior and the fact he is love, the Bible said. And he displayed a love that you and I just can't even fathom that he loved us enough to die on the cross for our sins. So he is love and he is mercy. But this verse says that the Lord is known by the judgment he executed. Now listen to me.
I want you to get this. That's when people will know that Jesus was the Lord and is the Lord. That's when people will know that God's word was true is when he executes judgment.
Now look at me. Jesus has been showing love and mercy for years and people still doubt. But when he executes judgment, that's when they will know that God's word was right and I was wrong. Notice verse 16.
He is known by the judgment which he executed. The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Verse 17. The wicked shall be turned into hell.
Notice this please especially. And all the nations that forget God. The wicked shall be turned into hell. We would preach a whole sermon on that but dear friend the Bible also makes it clear that also all the nations that forget God.
As America is continually forgetting God, that is where we are headed. This verse makes it clear. Now notice verse 19. Arise O Lord. Let not man prevail. Let the heathen be judged in thy sight. Put them in fear O Lord that the nations may know themselves to be but men.
You know what's going on? We have leaders in our nation and other nations. They think they're God. They think they're above God.
They think that they're more powerful, that they can do what they want to do. And these verses make it clear that the days going to come, they're going to realize we're just men. God is God. Look at verse 22 if you would.
Well let me just stop there. Let me read you this verse. Psalm 50 verse 22. Listen to this. Now consider this ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces and there be none to deliver. How many of you can agree that America is in the process of forgetting God? You agree with that. Alright.
That's kind of a freebie because this is July 4th weekend. Now I want you to look at John chapter 8. Now I told you it's a little more scripture than usual. I'm going to read the scripture. You need to hear it. You need to see it.
I'm going to draw an application and we'll get on to other things today. Notice with John chapter 8, look at verse 31. Just a few verses here in John chapter 8. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.
Isn't that interesting that if an individual gets saved, they might be saved. But unless they continue in God's word, they're not his disciple. Do you know that one of the roles of the church is to make disciples for Jesus?
Not just save people. One of the roles of the church is to reach people, give them the gospel and see them come to Christ. But our job as a church is not just to see them get saved. Our job as a church is to make them into disciples.
Do you see the difference? A lot of times we see people get saved but we don't enable them or help them to continue in God's word. And unless you continue in God's word, then you're not his disciple. Now notice if you would, verse 33. They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage.
Now what are you talking about bondage preacher? Look at verse 32 that we skip. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
We're talking about freedom today. Look at verse 34. Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
Now you might think that you can do some things and let loose in some areas and think well it's really not that big of a deal and it's not that bad of a sin. This verse teaches us that when you decide to commit sin, you are now the servant of sin. Look at verse 35. And the servant abideth not in the house forever, but the son abideth ever.
If the son therefore shall make ye free, ye shall be free indeed. Those are good verses, aren't they? Now, hold your place there because during the few applications I'm going to make to you this morning, they're going to come out of John chapter 8 and Romans chapter 3. Hold your place in John chapter 8. I'm not trying to make you work too hard this morning, but you need to see God's word.
Hold your place there. Look at Romans chapter 3. Look at verse 10. As it is written, as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one. There is none that understandeth. There is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way. They are together become unprofitable.
There is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre. With their tongues they have used deceit. The poison of asp is under their lips, whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.
Their feet are swift to shed blood. Destruction and misery are in their ways. And the way of peace have they not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes. Does anything describe where America is headed better than verse 10 through 18? Look at verse 19. Now we know that whatsoever things the law sayeth, it sayeth to them who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight. For by the law is the knowledge of sin. Verse 21, But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested.
Being witnessed by the law and the prophets, which means obviously all the way back from the book of Genesis all the way to the end obviously of the Old Testament as we're now speaking in the New Testament. It's been witnessed by the law and the prophets. Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all, not certain, not some, unto all and upon all them that believe for there is no difference.
That's great by the way. That means there's nobody that does not have the freedom to be saved. Notice if you would verse 23, Therefore all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
All sinned, all have the chance to be saved. Verse 24, Being justified, notice this, our key word this morning, being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Let me go to verse 29, actually verse 28, Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
That means all the law that you try to keep can't save you. You are justified by faith. Notice verse 29, Is he the God of the Jews only? Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also.
Thank God for that. Means it doesn't matter if you're Jewish or not, doesn't matter what color you are, doesn't matter what side of the tracks you came from, doesn't matter how bad you've blown it, salvation is available and free for you. Now salvation is not free. It costs Jesus everything.
But it doesn't cost us anything. Look at verse 30, Seeing it as one God which shall justify the circumcision by faith and uncircumcision through faith, do we then make void the law through faith? In other words, now is the law no good?
God forbid. Yea, we establish the law. Now I know that might be a bit confusing, but I want to preach to you this morning on the subject of freedom. I know it's a lot of scripture.
Now just listen to us for a little bit. Keep your finger right there at John chapter 8, Romans chapter 3. You need to see these verses as I make this application. I love you in the Lord.
Pray for me this morning. Lord, we love you. Thank you for the opportunity to preach your word. Thank you, Lord, that this Bible is more up to date than next week's newspaper. Lord, everything we're going through you saw a long time ago and you made provision for it. Now, Lord, help us this morning as we talk about the subject of freedom in Jesus' name.
Amen. Verse 32 and verse 36 of John chapter 8 says this, And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. I want to talk to you this morning about the subject of freedom. But the word freedom and the subject of freedom that I'm talking about, now listen to me real closely.
America did not give you and America cannot take away the freedom that I'm talking about. Now, what is interesting, I hear people all the time say is we might not longer have our freedom to worship. Now you look at me, nobody can take away your freedom to worship. You say, well, preacher, they might take away our freedom to meet in this building. They might take away our freedom to assemble publicly.
But, dear friend, I want you to understand something. There is not one government, not one nation, not one person that can ever take away your freedom to worship. Because they can't control your mind and they can't control your thoughts.
And the worst scenario is they put you in jail. Last time I checked, all through the word of God is a bunch of people that sat in jail and still worship God. There's a bunch of people that got stoned and still worship God. And even your preacher stoned. And I can still worship God.
You say, well, what if they kill you? Then you get to go to heaven and worship God there. There's no way anybody can take away our freedom to worship.
Isn't that great? They can lock you up, they can do everything they want to, but they can't change you worshiping. Because you don't have to have a building to worship. And you don't have to have an altar to worship. And you don't have to have a pulpit to worship. And you don't have to take an offering to worship. You can worship in your car. You can worship in Walmart. You need to when you get into those lines. You know when somebody with 80 items gets in that 12 item or less and you have two items, you need to worship God. In spirit and in truth.
And go to Target next time or something, I don't know. Number one, I want you to understand what we're talking about. We're talking about truth. Notice the emphasis on truth. Ye shall know the truth, verse 32 says, and the truth shall make you free. Verse 36, if the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
So we're talking about this. We have freedom folks, listen to me, when it comes to the truth of God's word. America did not give us the freedom of God's word.
America cannot take away the freedom of God's word. The governor didn't give us this freedom. The president didn't give us this freedom. England didn't give us this freedom. Nobody gave us the freedom of the truth of God's word. God gave us that freedom.
And I want you to understand this morning. Number one, we have freedom to receive the truth. We have freedom to receive. Now, notice if you would, verse 21 of Romans chapter 3. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets. That's God's word.
Even the righteousness of God, which is by faith of Jesus Christ. Notice this, unto all and upon all them that believe. Number one, free to believe.
You and I, I want you to understand something. It doesn't cost you anything to believe God's word. You have the freedom to do so. It doesn't matter what happens in our country. It doesn't matter what goes on.
Look at me dear friend, I want you to get this. Nobody gave you the freedom to believe God's word. God gave his word.
God gave the truth and you have the freedom to believe it. Now, notice if you would, verse 26 of Romans chapter 3. To declare I say at this time his righteousness that he might be just and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Listen to me, now look at John chapter 8 verse 24. Say preacher, what's the point you're making?
You're going to see. Look at verse 24. I said therefore unto you that ye shall die in your sins for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. Verse 31 of John chapter 8.
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him. Look at verse 45. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe not.
Listen to me dear friend. You have freedom this morning to believe the truth of God's word. So preacher, what are you trying to say? Even if you've been taught different your whole life, you have the freedom this morning to read the truth and believe it.
Listen to me, even if your family does not believe God's word, even if your entire family tree doesn't believe the truth of God's word, you are not bound to their belief, you are not bound to their rituals. I'm here to tell you this morning there is a freedom that has been given you by God himself. And that is the freedom to access his truth and believe it. Now you say preacher, why is this so important?
Because believing is the first step. Look at me dear friend. If you don't believe God's word, it stops there. You no longer have freedom. You're like, what are you talking about? This is a free country.
No, look at me. Freedom starts with the truth of God's word. Freedom starts when you believe the truth of God's word. That is when the truth shall make you free. That means this, if you don't believe the truth, you're not free this morning.
And you never will be. You are under the bondage of sin. You are under the bondage of this world. And dear friend, if you don't believe the truth, then you're not free.
But if you believe the truth, you can have every band, chain, everything on you. You could be strapped. You could be tied down. You could be in bondage to every government, every America. But you're free this morning if you believe the truth. Does that register? Does that make sense?
Listen to me dear friend. Believing is the hardest thing to get people to do. And I don't understand it because what half of America believes is beyond me.
Has anybody ever even looked into much, and I have, the subject of Scientology? You would not believe what people are grasping onto. And they have trouble believing that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. But they think Bozo the Clown showed up from a spaceship and all this.
What in the world? Dear friends, some of the fastest growing religions have some of the weirdest, strangest, most illogical belief systems in the world. And people are flocking to it. You know why people don't go out and witness nowadays? They say, well it's just hard to convince people of the Bible.
Oh, they're being convinced of a lot harder to believe. Dear friend, you and I, we don't give credit to the power of God's word. Because the truth shall make you free. I want you to know this morning you are free to believe the truth. There's nobody holding you back.
There's nobody that can tell you what to do. There's nobody that can brainwash you this morning unless you let them. I'm here to tell you this is the truth. God wrote the truth. And the Bible says that if you know the truth, that the truth shall make you free. And I'm telling you right here is the truth. Not Daniel, I'm not the truth. Anybody in this building isn't the truth. God's word is the truth. And I'm here to tell you you are free to believe it this morning.
Number two, you're free to receive it. Do you know believing is only half the battle? Now, notice if you would, verse 24, Romans chapter 3. Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. That means this, you are free this morning to receive Jesus as your savior.
You are free this morning to believe the truth and receive the truth. That means you would be justified, this verse says. That word justify means this, that all the sins in your past are gone. Not only is it the fact that Jesus never remembers our sin as far as God is concerned because of the redemption through Jesus Christ, it's as if we've never sinned at all.
We're justified. And that is free to those that believe the truth and receive Jesus into their life. Let me read you another book, verse 29, Romans chapter 3. Is he the God of the Jews only? Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also. That means this, there's no restriction of who can receive Jesus. There's absolutely no little club and only you can receive Jesus. And last time I checked, I don't care what anybody says, it's not only certain people going to heaven and there's not a certain amount of people that are going to heaven and just our little club and just Baptist or whatever the case might be.
Dear friend, it doesn't matter if you're black, if you're white, it doesn't matter if you're Asian, it doesn't matter if you're Latino, it doesn't matter if you're Polish, it doesn't matter what nationality you are, it doesn't matter if you're Jewish, it doesn't matter how bad you've blown it, it doesn't matter how much money you have in the bank account or how much money you don't have in the bank account, you're free to receive it. It's to the Jew, it's to the Gentile. Notice this next verse, look at verse 30. Seeing it is one God which shall justify the circumcision by faith and uncircumcision through faith. That means this, it doesn't matter if you've done this or done that, it doesn't matter if you have followed some religious ritual or whether you haven't.
It means this, you could have been in church your whole life, this might be your first Sunday in church ever in your life. I'm here to tell you, it doesn't matter, there's no restriction. You are free to receive the truth. That's freedom. You don't have to sit here and wonder if that freedom is ever going to be taken away. Dear friend, I'm here to tell you, it doesn't matter whatever happens in this country, there will always be the freedom until the Lord comes back for His church. There will always be the freedom to believe and receive the truth. Nobody can take that away from you because only that is freedom.
Now look at me, dear friend, I want you to get this. The freedom we have to assemble and go to church and all these things, that freedom can be taken away. So that means this, that freedom is temporary. So it's really not freedom. If it can be taken away, it's not freedom. Dear friend, I'm here to tell you what I'm talking about this morning, this type of freedom can never be taken away. Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
Period. Never can be taken away. Notice number three, not only is it free to believe, number two, it is free to receive. In case, by the way, you question, look at John chapter eight, I didn't read you those verses about receiving, I just want you to understand both chapters. Look at verse 32, and ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. Verse 36, if the Son therefore shall make you free, that's receiving the Son.
It means this, ye shall be free indeed. You know what the Bible says? But as many as received Him, to them gave He the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.
He's free to receive. Number three, truth is free to achieve. You say, preacher, what in the world are you talking about here? What is interesting, dear friend, you have the freedom to believe the truth, and you have the freedom to receive the truth. But I do want you to understand something about God, too. After you have seen the truth, believed the truth, received the truth, it is now still your freedom whether you're going to continue in His word or not. Do you know it is possible for you to get saved and do nothing else?
A lot of people do. You have the freedom to achieve or not. You say, achieve what, preacher? Notice if you would, verse 27 of Romans chapter 3.
Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works, nay, but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. That means this, you can be saved without doing one thing, without accomplishing anything, without changing anything. It doesn't mean that you've had to go and serve for a year and do a whole bunch of things for God, and now you can be saved. You are saved without the deeds of the law.
But notice if you would, verse 31. Do we then make void the law through faith? So that means now we can just put away having to do anything or change anything. That means we can just put away having to live a certain kind of life and having to represent Christ, which the law said to do. Does it mean we just get rid of that? Notice what he says. God forbid. Yea, we establish the law.
Look at me. It means this, that you don't need the law to be saved. But just because when you get saved doesn't mean that you just discard the law and have nothing to do with it. It means now that I'm saved, now that I believe the truth and I receive the truth, now it is time for me to live for the Savior. You say preacher, what's the point you're trying to make? Notice if you would, John chapter 8, look at verse 31. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed. That means this, you don't have to become his disciple. You can simply be a saved child of God.
But if you want to be his disciple, if you want to achieve something for God, if you want to serve him, if you want to further his kingdom, if you want to reach out and reach others, then you must continue in his word. And nobody's going to make you do that. Look at me.
I got so much I want to say, I hope you get this. Listen to me. God will never make us serve, he will never make us stand, he will never make us work for him. We have the freedom to choose.
Now, look at me. Get this. Use your mind. If ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free, and if the son makes you free, ye shall be free indeed. If you believe the truth and receive the truth and then he made you serve, that wouldn't be free, would it?
Now I know it's Sunday morning, I know you're tired, I know you're hungry, but you've got to hang with this this morning. You've got to understand the truth of God's word. That means this, if God gave you the choice to receive the truth, but then he did not give you the choice to serve him, it wouldn't be freedom. So that means this, if you're going to serve God, you've got to choose that. Listen to me.
Get this. For God to give us the freedom of our will to choose yes, he must also give us the freedom of our will to choose no. That means this, you're free to believe the truth and you're free to receive the truth, but also you're free to choose whether or not you're going to do something for God or you're not. Nobody can make you. God himself's not going to make you. That's your choice.
Listen to me. That is how free you and I are. We have a savior that died for us and purchased our redemption, and he is not going to make you do anything for him because you're free.
Why do I feel like I'm the only one understanding this this morning? This is a tough one for a Sunday morning, isn't it? Number four, you're free to be deceived. Look, if you would, at verse 10, 11, and 12 of Romans chapter 3. As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one. There is none that understandeth deception. There is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way. They are together become unprofitable.
There is none that doeth good, no, not one. Look at John chapter 8. We'll turn right over and look at verse 24. I said therefore unto you that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins deceived. Notice verse 43 of John chapter 8. Why do ye not understand my speech, even because ye cannot hear my word?
Deception. Look at verse 44. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lust of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own, for he is a liar and the father of it.
Look at verse 45. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Deception.
Dear friend, look at me. I want you to understand this morning, there's nobody holding a gun to your head. You have freedom to be deceived. If you decide you're not going to seek after God, and you decide I'm not going to get into the truth and find out for myself, dear friend, I want you to understand something. You've got freedom to be deceived. Now I will tell you where being deceived will take you, it will take you right into the pits of hell. But you have freedom this morning to be deceived. God bless you.
