In the Hebrew Might God is El Gibbor. This gives us the picture of God as a Warrior and Champion. Gibbor (Strong’s H1368) has the meaning of powerful, strong or mighty. When we see scripture mention someone that was mighty or powerful like David and Joshua, who were known for their strength and skill as warriors, this same Hebrew word is being used.
As believers we understand that war happens everyday. It is in the battlefield of the mind that we fight between our flesh and our spirit. We need help!
God sent his only son into the world not to condemn us, but to save us from our sinful nature. Our sin, if left untreated, will ruin us completely. Since Jesus has overcome death and the grave, we now have real, lasting hope. We are conquerors because he is the ultimate overcomer.
In the spiritual battles we face, we can have confidence that our Mighty God is preparing us, surrounding us, and fighting for us. [Deuteronomy 3:22, Ephesians 6:12, 1 John 4:4, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, Isaiah 54:17, Romans 8:37, 2 Thessalonians 3:3]
